Cafe Cultura is one of the few places I can say as a Chicano that gives you the authentic Mexican experience. The vibe just celebrates our community and the food is beyond incredible. You can never go wrong with the chilaquiles and the staff is awesome.
From the moment you walk in, you’re treated like a VIP. The staff greets every guest with genuine warmth, and the owner goes above and beyond to make everyone feel welcome. Fresh pastries are made right behind the counter, filling the café with an irresistible aroma. The coffee rich and flavorful, the pastries heavenly, and the music creates the perfect downtown vibe. For amazing service, delicious food, and a place that truly values its customers, Café Cultura a must-visit! ☕🥐💛
The service was quick and easy. The ordering was super simple and the options were absolutely awesome for a Mexican spot. They have an indoor and outdoor seating. We chose to eat indoors towards the back the atmosphere has a day of the of the dead vibe, the food came out pretty fast. The coffee here was on point. I have to say I was completely impressed and surprised with not just the pricing and a variety of options that they have but also how quick and friendly their service staff is. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who’s looking to come grab a quick and easy bite or even stop in for a coffee. We got the green chilaquiles with steak and avocado with abuelitas coffee and an orange juice. While we were here, they also shared with us that they’re opening up a Panaderia. It’s called Café y Pan. They were sharing samples of their breads with us. Not too sweet super fluffy absolutely delectable. 10 out of 10 would totally recommend and come back.
Service is excellent. I ordered for pick up and got there 3 minutes before closing when I realized I made the order at a different location. The cashier was so nice and called the other location to let them know I ordered at the wrong place. They made my order of 4 Frappuccino rite before closing. They were delicious. We came on family vacation and this place is definitely worth stopping by thank you cafe cultura. We will be stopping by again on our next vacation.
The service was great, the cashier was super friendly and attentive. I got the breakfast torta ($13.49) and it was super thickkkk & juicy. I would definitely buy it again! Also, I got the Abuelita Latte. Which has potential, the flavor was okay. It lacked the chocolate abuelita kick. Overall, it's a good place to hang out in.
The food here was amazing!! I came here with a party of 7 and we tried a little bit of everything, food was DELICIOUS!! For sure tastes as good as it looks!! The people working here are super sweet, friendly and very accommodating. The decor is very cute as well! I loved the decals with different sayings on the walls and the food as different lotería cards! The atmosphere is overall very welcoming. I 100% recommend and will definitely be coming back regularly on future California trips! :)
Been coming here since it was called cafe calacas and it's been a great place for coffee or a bite to eat. The wait for brunch on a weekend can be rough, but the food and drink are worth it. They come out with seasonal drinks too and they are generally some of the best around. The baked good behind the counter are also delicious. Love the staff and how friendly everyone is too, very helpful. The building itself is also very unique.
Came here on a Sunday afternoon. The place was busy, but the flow to get in was fast. They had a very good number of staff to help with the clientele. Got the opportunity to have patio seating at a busy time. The time it took to receive our plates was fair, considering how busy it was. Now the food was a bit pricey but it was good. The staff was friendly and polite. The place is unique. Definitely stands out from other places. Overall great place to come have a bite with a group of friends.
Food is ok not excellent flavor but decent, prices are little high for me a couple of coffee almost 4 dollars not refill that's a no. The plate we order was chilaquiles for 13 dollars and I thought we can split but is a small plate, pancakes are really good size and all, I like the environment is small inside but they have a dining room also outside, the distance between tables is great, girls are very kind I do recommend mostly for ameri/mexi food not a Mexican Mexican menu.
Found this cafe on Google maps and decided to come try it out with friends. The cafe has limited seatings and the line at the front desk had been long at the time we were in the cafe. I had Abuela latte and Abuela pancakes (if you like chocolate as much as I do). It's a lot of pancake, the latte was pretty good. My friends all ordered the horchata latte and said they were good. The service was great, the waiter and waitress came to check on us many times. Many of the patrons were there to get take outs but I can see it gets busy. There is also outside seating area. I'll probably bring my family here next time and try other items on the menu.
I've visited this spot multiple times, and it never disappoints. While it may be on the pricier side, the quality of the food makes it well worth it. They offer a variety of vegetarian and vegan options, including plant-based eggs and cheese, which is a nice touch for those with dietary preferences. They also have alternative milk options, so there's something for everyone. The restaurant can get quite busy in the mornings, so be prepared to wait, but I promise it's worth it. Despite being a small space, the vibe is warm and welcoming, with a strong sense of Mexican heritage reflected in both the atmosphere and the food. The place is always clean, and the staff is attentive and friendly. Plus, the food is made fresh to order, ensuring every dish is delicious. Highly recommend it if you're in the area!
Dates: 8/22/2020 (Saturday) & 8/23/2020 (Sunday) SO LET ME BREAK IT DOWN IN SECTIONS ... This place was pretty good (8 out of 10 Stars). The FOOD: it was surprisingly good. The Chilaquiles are great and The Cafe de Olla is pretty good (but my both of Grandmother’s were WAY BETTER- guess nothing beats grama’s cooking 🤷🏻♂️). The Tres Leches Pancakes and the Pan Dulce French Toast are exquisite! The Hot chocolate was presented beautifully but I felt and the taste wasn’t to my expectations. I asked if they used the old school Chocolate Abuelita tablets and I was told yes. Yet, it didn’t taste like chocolate Abuelita...🤔. The PASTIRES: good traditional selection plus a few extra sweets. That’s a solid 10 out of 10 stars. The SERVICE: it was great -THE 2nd time! The first time I eat there was the day before and the girl who took my order rolled her eyes at me because I wanted to order a couple of drinks and a pastry as we waited to be seated. She was still nice though. The WAITING TIME: 1st time @11:30am -seating time wait was 49 minutes- party of 2 2nd time @ 9am - seating was immediate - Party of 6. Would I come back, most definitely. 👍 But! There’s always a butt (😆)... I Won’t be ordering the hot chocolate.
This place is pleasant and chill environment. I love coming here!! I wish I could eat everything from here! Their drinks are specially outstanding! They are really traditional is the sense that they taste authentic! The CAFE DE OLLA taste exactly how it should. There are so many drinks! Can’t go wrong with any of them. The food is delicious. We had a burrito and we’ve had amazing burritos so we can be hard critics when it comes to them. These burritos were surprisingly outstanding! Service is good. It’s not so much like a restaurant where there’s servers, you sit where ever you like and they bring your food over. Great place! Cool and interesting dishes and foods to try!
Sunset Mimosa - good price ($7) - just tastes like a mimosa Pumpkin Pie Horchata Latte - love the crunchy pumpkin seeds - tasty pumpkin Famoso Breakfast Burrito - wish it came with salsa or more Pico de gallo - lots of ingredients - tastes okay Tres Leches Pancakes - fluffy pancakes - good Leches flavor but could use more House Chilaquiles - good flavor
We got there around 12pm on a Sunday. Waited in line an hour. Ordered our food. Food took maybe another 30 minutes. We ordered chilaquiles (red and green), tres leches pancakes, an abuelita coffee with oat milk, and a hibiscus lime soda. Two of us have dairy issues so we ordered the chilaquiles without queso fresco and added vegan cheese. The orders came out with sour cream so we had to wait while they remade them. The hibiscus lime soda was my favorite thing there. I might try it again when the line isn't so long.
Stopped by this cute cozy breakfast spot on a Tuesday morning around 8:30am 3 people total. Greeted by staff and waited in line to order. Friendly cashier took our order. Small food menu decent drink menu. Our drinks came out quickly food took a little longer. Two coffee and 1 lemonade. The latte and Cafe de Olla were warm at best. Not hot not coffee hot. Food was also warm, it had good flavor just on the colder side. I'm not one for piping hot food but even this was cold for me. No one ever came to check in on us or offered any condiments or extra napkins nothing. Cute place, nice atmosphere, Friendly Staff, clean place, food and drinks could be better.
Food: 3/5 Wife and I ordered the Chicken Acapulco Torta ($11.49) and churro waffle ($10.49). The torta sandwich itself was decent, chicken was well cooked but lacked salt. Churro waffle itself had a slight cinnamon taste, but I expected more of a sweeter churro taste, so overall was bland. We also ordered something to sip on. Rompope mexi-frap ($5.99 for reg size) and Abuelita mexi-frap $5.99). Again both were so-so taste wise, but appearance wise def top-notch. Service: 4/5 Since Cafe Cultura's food is made fresh to order it takes a bit of time. Despite that, service good. Ambiance: 5/5 I think Cafe Cultura shines here. Super chill breakfast vibe, reminiscent of sitting song Playas de Tijuana at one of the cafe's, sans la playa. There is beer and wine served here so I'm sure the joint amps up during brunch. Parking: 3/5 There is lots of parking around the area, plus a parking structure next door. All paid parking unfortunately since it is downtown and across from the federal building. Family/stroller friendly: 3/5 We sat on the outside patio where there seems to be a bit more space for a stroller. Overall the vibe is great, food looks super appealing! for me, there aren't the Bold Mexican flavors I'm used to, but more on the subtle side. Come try it out. Take care and happy eating!
What a disappointment… The place looks comfortable, and I love the décor and music. However, it was a red flag that we had to wait 40 minutes just to place an order—especially since the cashier was also helping tables. The food looked so good that we decided to give it a try anyway, but unfortunately, it was a total letdown. We ordered the green chilaquiles (the picture on their website looks amazing), but what we got was just soggy tortillas with no flavor—$21 because we added steak. Our second dish was the cajeta French toast, which turned out to be soggy bread that we ended up returning. Sadly, we won’t be coming back. 😔
I'm extremely disappointed to say the least. Iv been trying to get here for 2 years now. You could almost have gotten a tear 😢 out of me in how disappointed I was in the food. Absolutely over rated for food. I did happen to have had the pleasure of drinking one of there Iced chi. It was very well prepared with a little sprinkle of cinnamon on top. I had a al pastor burrito that would have been embarrassing If have would of brought it home to my NANA. My wife ordered a chicken torta. The bread was actually soft. Is the best comment I can leave. So. I decided to double down after the burrito failure. I got in line again and ordered the "famous " chilaquiles. 🫨. I went with green salsa. What could go wrong? Right? 🤢. If that is not can enchilada sauce. Please 🙏 correct me. Well. At least the eggs were cooked well. Pics and video included with this review. I truthfully showed up for something legendary. Left felling sad and hungry. Also out $60
Food was great, but the table situation was a complete joke. We were told our group of five could sit at the bar and move to a table once one opened up. A table did open, and suddenly it was “reserved.” First it was reserved for a meeting, then another employee said it was actually for the manager’s family. Funny enough, that “reserved” group didn’t show up until we were basically finishing our food. We already had our drinks and meals, so the whole thing felt like a polite way of telling paying customers to deal with it. Great food, absolutely trash customer experience.
