This is an old school sandwich shop that also makes fresh ravioli, and the sauce too. If you live anywhere near by, this is a place you must visit. The building is long and narrow, so indoor seating is small and very awkward, so takeout might be a better choice if busy. We had the smoked brisket sandwich and a plate of the traditional ravioli with meat sauce (Pro tip, the best news is, they sell frozen ravioli and refrigerated sauce to take home for later consumption). WOW on both. The menu is not huge but I could see myself trying everything at least once. I can't wait to go back. For those of you that are interested, this is a Check Please Bay Area spot, so you can see their review about it too.
We had the meat ravioli with bolognese sauce and a meatloaf sandwich on a soft roll. Both were fantastic. Highly recommend visiting. Parking was easy and cheap.
Best deli in downtown San Mateo. My favorites are roast turkey or pastrami made fresh daily. The rosemary chicken and roast beef are made fresh daily in house as well. The also have a nice selection of salads, ravioli/pasta for lunch or take home. They offer Ravioli cooked and uncooked along with pre made sauce that is excellent. Do yourself a favor and try the Ravioli House.
Then (15 years ago, OK), and now (Great). I went here many years ago and was disappointed. However, on a whim, and after a local food show gave it a fabulous review, I went again. It is great place (very work-a-day super casual): big, meaty sandwiches, flavorful sauces, and outstanding ravioli. For pasta and sauce: I've had the following ravioli: spicy meat, meat, and beautiful lobster. I've had the following sauce: bolognese, marinara, vodka. The vodka sauce was recommended for the lobster; however, while the it is wonderful, I found that it tended to overpower the delicate taste of the lobster (I now just use a browned butter or olive oil on the lobster ravioli). Go here and travel through the menu.
One of the VERY FEW places that puts quality above all else, and the prices are extremely reasonable. Sandwiches are tasty, and the dutch crunch is always fresh (often stale at other places). Of course, spaghetti or ravioli is a solid option here, with cheesy garlic bread (also on dutch crunch 😋), and the best chocolate chip 🍪 cookies in the area. It's also just a block from the park and a stroll through the Japanese garden.
Never order ravioli's at another restaurant for as long as they're around. Who here loves ravioli but the cost of them is ridiculous in a restaurant? Everyone. 4-5 "fancy" over priced pumpkin squash ravioli for $25 whenever you see them at most places.. But not here. A solid portion enough to fill you up, PLUS some delicious cheesy bread on the side for $12. You can't beat the deal, you can't beat the flavors of home made ravioli, and you get a handful of choices not counting the sauce or the day on hand! They also make pretty solid sandwiches too if you're not craving the ravioli's. I took my wife and her sisters word for it. Enjoy this small spot just on the edge of downtown. Eat in or dine out with a happy belly.
One of the BEST sandwich spots I've ever been to. The staff are fast and polite. I've never been disapointed with the food here. From the delicious sandwiches to the ravioli everything is great. My favorite handmade ravioli is the spicey sausage with bolagnese sauce which is a meat sauce. My favorite sandwich is the combo on Dutch but I also like to create my own I get the rosemary chicken with bacon heated on toasted dutch. It's also good to top it off with their delicious cookies they have white chocolate and regular chocolate.
The food here is excellent. Although most people can buy the ravioli and bring it home, it is just so much better when fresh. They also offer a wide range of sandwiches that are just as great. Would recommend eating at the restaurant at least once.
The Ravioli House is an iconic San Mateo restaurant/deli. It has been around over 70 years and with good reason. Fresh, quality ingredients, affordable prices, friendly and efficient service. On my most recent visit has the Mojo Sandwich and Albacore tuna both were outstanding.. (Ate 1/2 of each)..Chocolate Chip cookie was an extra added bonus. Yum, Yum, and Yum..
Great local lunch spot. Good value and good portion sizes. I would recommend the meat ravioli with vodka or pesto sauce. All raviolis come with a side of cheesy garlic bread. 👍
Great ravioli and great sandwiches. Hard to choose a what to eat. Tasty and good portions. Hidden gem of downtown SM. You can get ravioli to cook at home too. Worth checking out.
This place was way better than I expected, and is a little bit of a hole-in-the-wall. I had a pastrami sandwich which way very good, and my girlfriend had a couple varieties of ravioli(which I "sampled") that were all really good as well. I can't really think of a way this place could really be any better for what it is
I usually don't write reviews but I just read one that seems totally contrary to my experience. I've been buying ravioli there for 20 years and if anything they have gotten better. It's a shame that a small family owned business could get critized in such a harsh way. I appreciate all small businesses that have survived this horrible pandemic.
Great sandwiches!! Great jalapeno sauce
I always love coming to the Ravioli House!! They have great sandwiches like the Italian. Chicken and Pulled Pork, and their Caesar salad is delicious! They always use quality ingredients, and their bread is much better than many other delis. Plus, the service is excellent; they always want to make you feel at home and try to accommodate you in every way possible. I definitely recommend this place!
Has to be the best place on the Peninsula for deli sandwiches! Fresh ingredients and a variety of items. No skimpy meals here. Freshly made ravioli dishes can't get any better. Don't miss out if you are near here.
Love the food. Tasty and non-generic Italian style sub sandwiches with lots of different meat and bread options. The ravioli for which the restaurant is named is really tasty because it is made in-house. I order the traditional with pesto and it ALWAYS hits the spot! Service is a little rushed during the lunch rush because they get very busy, but not so much that I would not come back. The food is just fantastic if you like subs and homemade ravioli. Parking is San Mateo downtown parking so may be subject to what time of day you go. Prices are reasonable, not a bargain but not overpriced either. For the price, the portions are great and very satisfying. My friend and I each got an 8inch sub and split a ravioli plate and were very (happily) full. This is a go to spot for me and I will definitely be back again.
Excellent sandwiches made with top quality meats and freshly made bread. Very friendly and helpful staff ready to make any custom sandwich desired. Reasonable price for the quality and quick service. Tables available inside and a couple outside as well.
The ravioli are really delicious. Very tender and there is a choice of any sauce. Also included is bread with cheese. I liked it very much!
Good service and sandwich to match with the ambiance. Highly recommend this place if you want a quick bite to each.
Traditional meat ravioli with bolognese
Amazing raviolis and sauces. Their portions are generous and a great value. Definitely the kinda place you go to when you need a tasty dinner for a few days.
Amazing homemade ravioli!!! The service is great and the food awesome. The price is very cheap too! You should totally visit this hidden gem
Amazing veggie sandwich and zucchini ravioli! Staff was friendly and service was quick. We came in near closing and they were happy to have us stay and eat. They have cook at home Ravioli too!!
Wow! Delicious, wonderful ravioli and pulled pork sandwich.
Came in for the first time and ordered two sandwiches. One, the Pastrami, the other roast beef, both with cheddar and everything on it. The habanero sauce is fire. The ravioli plates. All looked amazing. I gotta go back for some of that action. This might be my new favorite spot.
This place rocks. They have solid sandwiches their brisket pastrami is fire and you can't go wrong with raviolis at the ravioli house Frozen raviolis are fire take him to go make em at home! Or have them heat em up!!!
Ravioli were beyond expectations with a delicious marinara sauce and a side of cheese bread. The sandwich options were pretty good and we tried the pulled pork, pastrami, and another pulled pork option mixed with a club type sandwich. All were on toasted sourdough, which wasn't sour much so don't be afraid to try! Overall the service was great, food was enjoyable, and they definitely have clientele because there were people in and out with ordering and pick up. I will definitely be back to try some different options.
Ravioli House is a San Mateo staple. The sandwiches are great (especially the brisket pastrami). Ravioli are excellent 👌
The ravioli never disappoints. Also, the deli sandwiches here are very good!
The sandwiches are great, ive tried a few of the cold cuts and they don't disappoint. My girl gets the spicy ravioli with cheesy garlic bread and it is also amazing. Service is always fast and it's surprisingly not crowded the couple times we've gone on Saturdays at noon. They also offer deli pastas and take out cups of their ravioli and marinara sauce to cook at home.
Amazing hole in the wall. Solid spot for ravioli. They make their own sauces and ravioli that you can also bring home And cook!

This place has been around ever since I can remember. I'm in my 40's mind you. This is a San Mateo gem. Love their fresh food, lunch meats and service. It gets super busy for lunch, but it's worth the wait.
A San Mateo gem! If you're craving tasty sandwiches or homemade ravioli look no further. You can grab a hearty lunch here that will not break the bank. A coworker and I shared the pulled pork sandwich a pastrami sandwich--both on dutch crunch rolls of course! The meat portions for both sandwiches were generous. Mounds of meat, sauce, and coleslaw make for a delicious albeit messy lunch. We also sampled the meat ravioli with meat sauce which was very tasty! The atmosphere is quite casual and our food was ready in about 5 minutes. I noticed they have a case of ravioli to take home and plan to try the lobster ravioli next time I swing by!
This place feels like you are in a local lunch spot in Italy, just a bit larger. Had the combo sandwich on dutch crunch roll and cheese ravioli with marinara sauce. Both were very hearty and filling. The portion sizes are pretty big here. Definitely will one of my regular spots.
Food: 4 Decor: 3 Service: 4 Came here for lunch with my dad and aunt. 1. Pulled pork sandwich 8 Pork shoulder smoked over mesquite with apple wood right out back, Served on a toasted roll with our own coleslaw and Carolina BBQ sauce. ~Pretty good, although I only had a couple bites. I'm not a huge fan of pulled pork since it has a lot of BBQ sauce, but they did a good job with it. Pork was complemented well with the coleslaw. Service was good, and they have an excellent rock music selection.
Ravioli ($7.95) was amazingly al dente, and I had my dish half and half of spicy sausage and beef. The spicy sausage was a winner! Cooked to order, and they gave me a choice between red sauce or meat sauce, but meat sauce was actually also red. Would have made my day if they also offered a non-red sauce option. Got the pulled pork sandwich with the Dutch Crunch. Gigantic portions, but no sides for $7.95. Meat a bit dried in the middle and the BBQ sauce a bit too tangy, but overall a decent deal. They have the half-liter Mexican Coke ($2.00)! I asked for a cup of ice with it. Pay at the front after ordering, 2 small tables of outside seating, takes credit. They have take-home ravioli for $7 a box.
Good pasta good sandwiches. Service is very good. Deli-like atmosphere
After a short class, I was feeling hungry and saw this place that had great reviews on Google. Excitedly, my partner and I went to this store where the worker suggested the Mojo sandwich and the chicken ravioli with vodka sauce. After a short wait they brought out our food and it was pretty good. The sandwich had too much pulled pork(surprising problem), because it was the only thing you’d end up tasting. The ravioli, which should have been amazing, wasn't that great. The flavor was fine and it was cooked to an al dente texture, but the inside filling was just so crumbly. The texture was kinda unpleasant in this regard, but at least the flavor was good and the garlic bread was a 10/10. Overall I would have to dock them some points for the ravioli(their literal namesake), but it wasn’t that bad and the vibes were nice.
Ravioli House is located in the middle of San Mateo, not far from the 101 freeway. We were looking for a simple lunch that was not too pricey and Ravioli House was perfect. It's one of those fairly simple restaurants with really good food. You order at the counter and they bring it out to your table. The portion size was very generous - my wife wound up having her leftovers for dinner. As good as the ravioli was - I had chicken and my wife had traditional meat - the included cheesy bread was even better and the highlight of my meal! If you need a straighforward lunch in San Mateo, check out Ravioli House!
This is more deli than cafe. Order at the sandwich counter. There are both tables outside and inside. Think East Coast Deli setup. The ravioli takes about 7 minutes to cook when ordered. It is then brought to your table. The chicken ravioli with pesto is good. The ravioli is ok, nothing really special about it. The pesto is really good. Its a good value at $13.50 I ordered the Combo. Good sandwich and quality. Need to get it with the works.. the heat from the peppers offset the saltiness of the cold cuts. The only negative is that the prosciutto is a bit too thick in my opinion... I could not bite through it well.
Ravoli was made fresh and pesto sauce were great. Only thing I would comment on is that the filling didnt have as much flavor as I would have expected. Served with two large pieces of cheesy bread. Plenty of vegetarian options
YUM. Really awesome, humongous sandwiches. Order ahead if you don't want to wait. I definitely recommend the mojo sandwich. Smoked, pulled pork accompanied by bigger, super tended chunks of ham, with melty Swiss cheese, tomato, pickle, red onion, and a spicy Cuban mojo sauce, all served on a perfectly toasted roll. When I first picked up the sandwich the cheese wasn't quite melted, but as the sandwich sat there and steamed up, that cheese melted to perfection. The bread was crunchy on the outside and got that slight sogginess inside that made it soft and chewy, but held its integrity against the ingredients. This sandwich was easily two meals for me, probably could have been three had I asked them to cut thirds instead of half. I want to come back and try the Italian sub, which sounds pretty bomb too.

Longstanding restaurant located in downtown San Mateo. Known for its ravioli, the gourmet sandwiches are also pretty decent. Small interior with limited seating, as most of the business is for take-away. Fast and friendly service. Paid street parking only, but there are also some paid parking garages within a 5-minute walk.
The ravioli was fresh. The pesto was quite watery which was weird. The cheesy toasted on the side was good.
Good pasta good sandwiches. Service is very good. Deli-like atmosphere
I've tried the pasta only once. Two items I get, and both are fantastic: 1. Jerk Chicken sandwich (only available occasionally) 2. Pulled Pork sandwich This is pulled pork for people who like pulled pork, not for people who like oversauced meat. They put a bit of light bbq on it, it is meat meat meat, a good amount and great taste. Actually smoked, which is nice.
There's nothing exactly spectacular about this place for the most part. The sandwiches are really good, and the ravioli is mid-tier. I enjoy walking here for lunch with my team to grab a quick bite and head back to the office
