Just as I was wondering why Park Slope needs yet another coffee shop, Velvette Black blew me away! The pastries (for the record, I only tried the pistachio cake) are smooth, airy, and to give the ultimate Asian compliment, “not too sweet.” I had the Velvette for coffee and it’s texture fits the description. The coffee shop is very well lit, has Wi-Fi, power outlets, and plays piano jazz in the background. So, it’s great for working if that’s what you’re looking for. I got started on a punch card and will surely be back!

I randomly found this Cafe and decided to stop for a coffee because I liked how it looked. I am an Italian tourist and the coffee was the best I've ever tried in the US yet. The cookies are great too. I would definitely go again if I have the chance!

I like their espresso--it's not the too bitter, too tart, over-extracted stuff some places sell--and the space allows both laptop work and quiet convos to co-exist peacefully.

I had been wanting to come here for a while to try the signature drink the Velvette - got it with oat milk and it was delicious. The staff was friendly and they have a small enclosed patio out back.

The guy at the counter changed the song when it was a good one, but the coffee was good and he was cool so all is forgiven! Fun place and cool vibes, I would definitely go back

I came here on a Saturday morning, and had a very pleasant experience! I got the Velvette with oat milk and a lemon pastry, both of which were delicious. The service is quick and friendly, and there are plenty of places to sit (with outlets!). Will definitely be coming back!

Great selection for coffee!

love love love this cafe. amazing coffee. great vibe. good pastries. there’s only one thing that reallllly bugs me about it: the music. it feels uncurated and i find it distracting. one day it’ll be John Mayer and then another day Eye of the Tiger. a coffee house like this should be playing cooler music. and/or more chill instrumental music, as most people are reading/working. 60s jazz, ambient electronic music, even classical would work. just not pop music.

Flat white was okay, plenty of great coffee in the city, a bit surprised by this 4.8 rating.

My only complaints is that sometimes the music is played too loud. The other complaint is that every time I’m there, which is usually everyday, a homeless guy comes in be-tween 3 and 4 and locks himself in the rest room for up to a half hour and does God know what.

Made a quick stop for a delicious cappuccino and a chocolate eclair. The outdoor seating at the back was pleasantly relaxed and provided cool shade whilst also still enjoying the summer day. Inside is nice and quiet to work/study with plenty of seating and electrical plugs.

He'll literally reach for the closest one, and if it's larger than a smaller one, he'll pivot. I'm not a fan of that kind of lousy service. Everything else is great!

Recently moved to this block and was excited to have a coffee shop close by - our last coffee shop near us in fort greene was a favorite, we went everyday, despite our budget, and were good friends with the staff. I have to say, the staff here are always pretty unfriendly and short with me despite me trying to be nice, and tipping etc. Not a fun way to start the day. Not sure why they take such offense but I always feel extremely unwelcome. I will say they are insanely efficient. Its always busy and packed with people on their laptops, youd think it was a wework. Missing all my previous neighborhood coffee shops and may shop around for a different spot to go to in the neighborhood.

I had an appointment right around the corner and needed to kill some time and walked up on Velvette by accident. The space itself is beautiful, big, and has plenty of seating. There's even a patio in the back with a couple tables and umbrellas. Drinks were great! (Ordered 2 dirty chai lattes) The service however, is sadly what stood out the most. Both employees behind the counter were not friendly, seemed annoyed, and barely made any eye contact or said two words. Would come again for the atmosphere but staff didn't leave the best impression.

I absolutely love Velvet Brew on 5th … but the staff at Velvet Black is unfortunately just not as friendly or hospitable. It’s more of a place your order and move on kind of vibe than the laid back coffee house vibe you’d expect from Velvet Brew. A little more quick tempered team too. If you’re in an out, don’t get me wrong, the coffee is great.
