My husband and I were in town for a conference and had the good fortune to hang out with his old Navy buddy and his wife. They recommended Lucille’s and it turned out to be a fantastic choice. I was struck by the cool vibe and trendy, diverse crowd. The service and the food was incredible. I absolutely recommend the fried green tomatoes with shrimp on top. Super tasty! Everyone was happy with their entree. So unique and flavorful. If you’re looking for good food to share with good friends, check out this spot. You will be happy you did.

Lucille's, nestled in Houston's Museum District, is a gem I discovered during my recent business trip. I was so impressed that I dined there twice in my 5-day visit. The food is outstanding. I sampled a variety of dishes including boudin balls, fried green tomatoes, shrimp and grits, and bread pudding. Each dish was expertly prepared and delicious. The Southern-inspired menu offers a perfect blend of comfort and sophistication. What really sets Lucille's apart is the exceptional service. The entire staff was attentive and engaging throughout both of my visits. Special mention goes to Rose the bartender, who remembered my drink order (an old fashioned) on my second visit - a thoughtful touch that made me feel like a regular despite being an out-of-towner. The atmosphere at Lucille's is unique and charming. Housed in a converted residence, the restaurant exudes a cozy yet stylish vibe that perfectly complements the cuisine. Its location in the Museum District adds to its appeal, making it an ideal spot for a meal before or after exploring the area's cultural offerings. Practical note: They offer valet parking, which is convenient given the residential setting. Overall, Lucille's provided a memorable dining experience that I would highly recommend to both Houston locals and visitors. It's a must-visit for anyone seeking excellent Southern cuisine in a welcoming, distinctive atmosphere.

It was 5 star. Food was good. I tried the fried green tomatoes and I think they could've been season and cooked a little longer. This led me to believe my oxtails would be ok. But the oxtails were really delicious and grits are good. Also my old fashioned was made correctly. Is worth 50 an entrée no comment I will go once more to try shrimp and grits and the fried green tomatoes. If seasoned better and not tough I do 5 star update.

“you won’t be disappointed” From the time you walk into Lucille’s, which has valet parking available the overall service continue to drive the evening. Had a chance to try the mac & cheese, the truffle brussels sprouts, catfish and grits, catfish nuggets, greens, and the amazing corssiant bread pudding. (Tell you a secret they have the crossiants believed fresh to make the bread pudding) ☺️ I can see the look on people’s faces dining that everything was enjoyable, but the atmosphere is perfect for trying to enjoy great southern cuisine. Now I will say to ask for the mac & cheese hardened at the top, which makes a great combination and your taste buds will thank me. I think it’s a great atmosphere to enjoy dinner with family or friends and even if you’re visiting, I think you will enjoy it as a Houston trade as I was a visitor as well. Ronni and April greeted with amazing smiles and personality. Definitely a Houston gem/treat. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Made friends while there that’s what I call a great atmosphere and personality of a restaurant.

If you’re in the Houston area, definitely check out Lucille’s. I highly highly recommend making a reservation, it gets packed! Parking is mostly street parking and tough to find. They do offer “complimentary” valet service. We did Brunch on a Saturday and loved it. We opted for outdoor patio seating since we had a baby with us. Loved it. It was a beautiful day and their outdoor seating is really nice, they have shaded areas above the tables and also had live music. We ordered the chili bites for our appetizer, definitely a tasty bite size snack! Think chili filling inside some biscuit dough topped with melted cheese and some sort of southwest taco seasoning aioli. Then we ordered the oxtail omelet (really good), croissant French toast with chicken wings (good, croissant was kind of dry, wish it was a little more buttery and soaked a little more in the French toast batter) and the catfish with grits (amazing, love the cornmeal light batter, must order!). Service was great. Our server Scorpio was really sweet. Very personable and kind. Other team members were on top of clearing the table as well. Overall a wonderful experience!

Delicious! Fantastic customer service and ambience. Even with out little ones. Great staff! Ooh the hot rolls and fried green tomatoes are a must have!!! Don’t skip it! Chicken and waffles were awesome I just didn’t get the peppers that it came with. Would love to see the live band we heard so much about! Thanks for having the mist and fans on! We appreciate it on a hot morning.

This spot has been on my Houstonian bucket list, and I was trying to hold out to take my mom here for brunch. However, a friend of mine came into town with her husband, and this is the spot that they chose. I did not put up a fight lol 10 out of 10 would recommend, the atmosphere is nice good music it was a mixed crowd of customers we had the fried green tomatoes and the chili biscuits for appetizers. I had the oxtail Philly, my friend had the catfish and grits and her husband got the hot chicken sandwich minus the hot chicken sauce FYI he was a little bit of a picky eater And we got a side of macaroni and cheese. I had no complaints. Our waitress was very nice and very attentive. She forgot a couple of things here and there but once we reminded her, she was very apologetic and corrected it immediately. There were a couple of questionable pictures up in the restaurant, and the parking is a little terrible, but that’s the area of the museum district a.k.a. 3rd Ward Tours. We went there for lunch. They only serve brunch, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I will most definitely be going back for brunch and dinner as well. They close the kitchen between three and four every day. The waitress also informed us on Thursday. They have jazz on the patio if I’m not mistaken and happy hour is from 4 to 6. 1/2 off any drinks.

I was impressed from the moment they opened their doors, evident by the line forming instantly. Despite the busy atmosphere, the service was prompt. Note that there is a seating limit of 90 minutes. The signature biscuits, crispy and warm, were a delightful surprise with their flavorful filling. The catfish and grits portion was generous, with perfectly seasoned batter and impeccably cooked fish. The sweet potato waffle had a subtle sweetness that complemented the meal perfectly. Overall, a truly satisfying dining experience that I highly recommend for anyone craving authentic southern cuisine.

Everything about the visit was exceptional! Friendly staff, great food, and drinks. The Oxtail tamales were fantastic. The Truffle Mac and cheese was good however too much oil for my pallet. The yard bird meal reminded me of Gram's cooking. I would recommend Lucille's my friends and family.

Incredible service and delicious food! We had an ice coffee craving and our server went above and beyond to provide what we needed to make our own! (Note Lucile's roasts their own coffee but they only serve hot coffee at the restaurant). We made sure to purchase a couple of coffee bags to bring back with us a taste of Lucille's. Everything we tried was well seasoned, well portioned, and tasted very fresh. Their rolls is what started their legacy, you must definitely try them! This restaurant was an easy walk after visiting the art museums.

We've been coming here almost since they opened. It's about an hour away from home, but *damn* does Lucille's feed your soul. Fresh ingredients crafted with intention. Truly a Houston gem. Don't sleep on this spot.

I stopped in for Dinner at Lucille's on 11/11/23, where we ordered the Biscuits, the Smothered Steak, and the Braised Oxtails. The value for money here is absurd - both the quality of food and the quantity on each plate is overwhelming. For <$100 we were incredibly satisfied, which was very impressive to me considering the ingredients were steak, etc. As individual points, I would highly recommend anything with their serrano cheddar grits, the braise oxtails were wildly flavorful and very juicy, and the biscuits were unique and entertaining.

Loved everything! The collard greens were so amazing- wonderful flavor but also so fresh and light. Gumbo with shrimp hit the spot. I wanted to order everything and sad I didn’t! :)

Lucille’s is a gem of a restaurant! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with a warm, inviting atmosphere and friendly staff. I indulged in some of the most delicious desserts I’ve ever had—perfectly baked pies with flaky crusts, rich and creamy cheesecakes, and brownies so decadent they practically melt in your mouth. The savory dishes were just as impressive. Their slow-cooked barbecue, flavorful sides, and tender, juicy chicken were all cooked to perfection, bursting with flavor in every bite. It’s a true culinary delight that left me wanting more!

Yard bird was delicious. Seared salmon was excellent. Cornbread is sweet and buttery. Chili biscuits were amazing

I can't find anything to complain about lol. Loved it. I had the blackened catfish over grits with the oxtail au jus and it was so good. I wish it came in a bigger portion so I got the boudin balls to finish. The drinks were tasty as well. The pineapple margarita was on the sweeter side but good. I enjoyed the Texas Hold Em beverage even more. Great spot. The service was really good and I had about 3 different people check on me. Parking could be easier since I don't prefer valet, but I was able to find a spot after one loop around the block.

We expected a 30 min wait but actually did not wait very long at all for a table. It’s just down the street from the children’s museum and the service and food were great! We ordered and food came out super fast! Ordered chicken and waffles subbed with catfish, hot chicken sandwich, baked Mac and cheese and the chili biscuits. We really liked the catfish and waffles. The fries that came with the hot chicken sandwich were delicious! The sandwich was good, but it was more of a chili oil and not hot honey which is what I preferred, but still good. One of the kids knocked over a lemonade and they were quick to respond and were very kind about it.

My wife and I came here on a date night, where we also went to a local museum. My wife found this restaurant on Google maps and she sent it to me to review and to decide together whether we wanted to go here. Let me tell you, it was fabulous. From the greeting at the door to being seated at a table to being greeted by our server. Their insightful and wonderful recommendations were welcome and spot on. we ordered two rounds of drinks over the course of our meal, an appetizer of the chili biscuits, the grilled salmon and lump crab entrée and the steak and shrimp entrée, and we closed out with the bread pudding. Every single element of our meal was incredible. Our server, Rick, was helpful, polite, insightful, and just generally friendly. If you go, and I suggest you do, I would recommend asking for him. Even the other patrons were polite as we made casual conversation with tables near us as they got up to leave at the end of their meal. All in all this was a five star experience.

Absolutely delicious! Run - do not walk - to Lucille’s! Hubs had the surf and turf- I had salmon, the edges were crispy and wonderful. So yummy! We were celebrating our 34th anniversary (a month late!) and they offered Bread pudding for dessert- I am not normally a fan of this dish but it was so good. The service was top notch, the valet was kind, drinks were creative and delish!

★★★★★ Lucille’s has quickly become one of our new favorite restaurants in Houston! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm hospitality and exceptional service. The cocktails were absolutely incredible—crafted to perfection with bold and unique flavors. And the food? Out of this world! Every dish was bursting with flavor, beautifully presented, and cooked to perfection. The staff was not only friendly but also extremely knowledgeable, offering great recommendations and making our dining experience even more enjoyable. If you’re looking for a place that delivers amazing food, drinks, and top-notch service, Lucille’s is the spot. We can’t wait to come back!

First time here and loved it! Had Me’Leeza as our server and she was the best! Highly recommend if you’re visiting Houston! We got the oxtail omelette, shrimp & grits, and catfish & grits.

I visited Lucille’s on a Friday evening at 7:30. My overall experience was great and I would recommend the restaurant to anyone considering it. The waitress, Malise, was very pleasant, attentive and accommodating. My food arrived fairly quickly after ordering, and everything came out warm/hot, which was good. I ordered baked mac & cheese as a starter. I had a spiced pineapple mocktail (with tequila added) as my drink. For the entree I got shrimp and grits. Then, I finished things off with bread pudding and ice cream for dessert I was told to make a reservation and I’m glad I took the suggestion as the restaurant began to pick up with customers around 8:30. Valet parking was available for $10.

Luciles offers a comfortable and casual dining experience. Sheldon was amazing at making dinning recommendations. The food, atmosphere, and service were all top tier. So many great southern comforts foods served in elegant way. Definitely coming back on our next visit to Houston.

Great food. Great service. Casual setting with top of the line quality. We had the braised oxtail, crab cakes, mac & cheese, oxtail tamales, seared salmon with lump of crab, fish and grits with a side of shrimp. Drinks were yummy and were able to specialize to perfection!!

Enjoyed my lunch here! The food was tasty and authentic, although some dishes could use a little more spice. Service was prompt and attentive. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated, creating a pleasant dining experience.

I had the pleasure of visiting Lucille’s while in Houston, Texas, and wow what an unforgettable experience! Hands down, one of the best brunches I’ve ever had. The croissant French toast was absolutely to die for; buttery, crispy, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. And let me not forget the oxtail omelette so flavorful and perfectly seasoned! The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the service was top-notch. I’m already counting down the days until I can visit again! Ps. We had to valet park and reservations are required!!

What a freaking great place! Amazing food - the oxtail Omelette, to die for. The catfish, the bomb! The staff is the best - considerate, fun, attentive. The manager runs a tight ship and makes sure everyone is taken care of. A definite visit for the next trip to Houston. This place has the food, the ambiance and the people to make a visit special and memorable. Like the little Richard song - Lucille is a thrill.

Took the time to finally try this restaurant out on a Tuesday afternoon. This was definitely one of the best meals I’ve had in a while. We got familiar dishes like the shrimp & grits and the chicken and waffles. Both were well prepared and full of flavor. We also got the fried green tomatoes and that was excellent. Overall I recommend trying this place out. It will not disappoint.

Tasty southern food in an upscale environment. We visited for a Friday evening. For appetizers, we had the chili biscuits and fried green tomatoes. The fried tomatoes were lovely, with crispy cornmeal batter concealing fresh green tomatoes. For entrees, we had the pork shank, chicken breast, and blackened catfish. The catfish was well cooked with excellent but not overwhelming flavor. The pork shank was massive and while the sweet flavor was a bit different, it was still tasty. The chicken came with this tasty southern fried rice. Service was friendly throughout our visit.

I was in town visiting from Dallas and had Sunday brunch here. The food was amazing. Everything tasted great lots of good flavors and spices. Really good southern options and and food presentation was spot on. Highly recommend.

Went for late lunch after visiting Museum district. Our server Linda was great, friendly and professional. Food was well made with extremely fresh ingredients, both the seafood and other ingredients. Prices were good for the quality of the ingredients. Highly recommended restaurant around Museum district.

Linda at Lucille’s is incredible! Her service is always excellent—warm, attentive, and professional. She makes you feel right at home and mixes the best drinks. Linda goes above and beyond to make sure every visit is a great experience. Hands down one of the best bartenders around!

The food was amazing! A must if youre in the Houston area! The service was exceptional, our server was knowledgeable about the menu and gave great recommendations. I feel terrible, I can't remember his name, Think it started with an "R" but we dined in on the night of Oct 3rd. They also had live music in the back. Overall 10/10

M

Food and service was AMAZING. I booked their private room upstairs and had Stephanie help me out with the reservation. She had quick and extremely helpful communication. When we got there we had Q as our waiter and he helped above and beyond. Our large party of 17 were all super pleased and it was everyone’s first time there, but it became our new favorite southern spot. Thanks Lucille’s for making this large party super happy and making our guest of honor feel special on her graduation day!

I visited Houston from Seattle last month for 3 days. I went for breakfest on day two to this lovely place. The cocktails were phenomenal. The potato hash was next level. The chicken and waffles were elevated and really tasty. The country fried steak was BOMB. The waitresses were REALLY NICE and gave us good recommendations for the rest of our trip. The outdoor tables were quite sticky but that could be attributed to the climate which I am not accustomed too. When in Houston next I will definitely be coming back here!

M

My first restaurant in Houston and our food was delicious! Our server Mimi was just as great, she continuously checked on us, she was sweet and very attentive. Would definitely come back again!

Great restaurant, serving vibrant southern food in a very quiet part of Houston, close to Main St and Hermann Park. They have a very cool... no, a fantastic exterior area but beware, if you're not used to it, it can really get high in temperatures outside! Possibly the best lunch I've ever had in North America...

It is always a treat to go to a restaurant that is so close to your home that it would be silly to drive to! We started with the fried green tomatoes and chili biscuits. I had the croissant French toast with chicken wings. Matt had the chicken fried steak, which I have had before. But I forgot that the chicken fried steak at Lucille’s is probably the best that I have ever had!

D
David V

One of the best places I ever been to! First of all, our server, Mimi, was sooo sweet. She was kind and always checked up on us. We got the biscuits for appetizers and the chicken fried steak, Benedict, Mac and cheese, and hot rolls for brunch. They were all very very good and hot. We got a pecan pie for dessert with ice cream that also tasted great! Will be back!!

We had brunch at this restaurant on Saturday morning through a reservation. As per the reviews, we left our keys with the valet service. However, to our surprise, the valet service accepted credit cards instead of just cash. Upon entering the restaurant, we were greeted and seated promptly. Since the restaurant was not crowded at 11 am on a Saturday, we could have easily walked in. Our waiter, Mimi, was exceptional! She provided excellent customer service and the food was simply amazing. We ordered the waffles and chicken plate, croissant French toast, and wings, which came with an additional charge. We also shared a plate of mac and cheese, which was incredibly creamy. Overall, the food and service at this restaurant were fantastic.

For an appetizer I had the seared scallops. They were seasoned and cooked to perfection. I had the surf and turf for my entree. Everything was also cooked to perfection and delicious. The service was very good, my server was very attentive. He genuinely cared that I enjoyed my meal.

We are first timers, and I don't know how this place only has 4.4 stars when it should have 5! I ordered their burger, and it was delicious! The server was friendly and very attentive. The atmosphere was laid back with classic music playing in the background. The cornbread with honey and mac and cheese were lovely. My dad is a picky eater, and he ate his whole burger and fries. He drank all of his peach tea. My husband ordered the chicken and waffles...SO GOOD. Their regular lemonade and strawberry lemonade were refreshing and freshly made! I would like to go back and try the shrimp and grits. I definitely recommend trying out this restaurant.

Vibe- This is a nice black owned restaurant near the museum district! It seems like a nice spot to stop in for happy hour during the week. There’s a good amount of seating inside. Customer service- Great, the server my family and I had, Chris was great! Food/drinks- I hate that there weren’t many vegan or vegetarian options on the menu (why I went with an overall 4 star review) but I did enjoy the Brussels sprouts (removed the egg), fried green tomatoes, and the baked Mac & Cheese. Parking- There’s valet and some lots near by.

Went here on a Sunday it was extremely busy had to wait about an hour but it was worth the wait. Ended up sitting at the bar because it was faster and we didn’t want to wait anymore. The catfish was amazing, best catfish I’ve had all 2024. Also had the Mac and cheese and French toast. Everything was decent and made with love. Would definitely visit this location again when I’m back in Houston. Let me not forget about the staff hear. The hostesses were amazing as well as the bartenders.

Service was amazing. Food was pretty good. I had the chicken and waffles. The waffle was sweet potato, delicious and filling. Look forwarding to experience more of the brunch menu in the future.

I’ve heard about Lucille’s continuously since moving here and was excited to try it for brunch with some friends. We made our reservation through OpenTable, and were told that we had to all be present to be seated, which was no problem. Upon arriving with our reservation and all of us being present to be seated, we still had to wait for a table which was just a little confusing to me. Why make a reservation if we still have to wait? Nonetheless, we were seated, and our server was very prompt and attentive. All of our meals came out very quickly, and were all very delicious. As far as a brunch place, this particular restaurant did not fit the aesthetic that I had in my head for a brunch location however, the brunch that is served is very delicious so if you’re looking for a really really great brunch menu, then this is absolutely the place but if you’re looking for a place that’s more like the aesthetic of brunch then you may want to consider another place. This restaurant is definitely a feel good, cozy place that you are going to get great food.

C

Candace was an awesome waitress. My fish was seasoned and fried to perfection. The grits could've used a bit more au'jus and flavor bcz they didn't taste like anything, which was shocking compared to the fish. I was expecting savory but it was bland. My French Kiss was good flavor-wise but tasted like a mocktail instead of a cocktail. I'll definitely visit again and try other items.

After years of wanting to go here, we finally made it! Good service. I could eat their fries all day. Pro tip #1 - make reservations, one day in advance. Not able to sit where we wanted because it was reserved for those with reservations—and all surrounding tables remained vacant our entire meal. Pro tip #2 - Ride share here as there’s no parking except for valet $10. Children’s museum parking $10 for two hours or less. Pro-tip #3- if you need to- ask for a hard copy of a menu. Pro-tip #4 - Watch out when you bite on the oxtail Philly cheesesteak – – there are bones in it Pro tip #5 – ask your server what are the desserts for that day– there is no lunch dessert menu. Faves -fries, fried green tomatoes, inside (meat) yardbird (outside crust was too spicy for me.) Good comfort food, but not pushing the envelope. Nothing revolutionary. Patio area looks like it could be beautiful and spacious. Live jazz music on Thursdays.

This restaurant was recommended for brunch for my family group. I really like how they were able to accommodate a party of 8. They have indoor seating on both floors and a bar. While I was waiting for my party to be seated, I ordered a watermelon sangria, which was very refreshing. When we were seated, we were quickly greeted by our server, who also delivered prompted ordering of our food. I ordered the chicken fried Benedict. It was nice. however, I requested my eggs be poached hard and they were not. Everyone in my party enjoyed their meals and we everything went smoothly.

L

My second time dinning at Lucille’s with my family and the service did not disappoint. We had reservations for 4 people and were seated right away. Our server Q.G was professional and He never forgot about us. The Yardbird was very tasty and the greens were seasoned well. My mother ordered the roasted hen and she loved her dish. My father ordered the smothered steak with the roasted potatoes and said it was delicious. The shiitake gravy was a good add to the steak. We ordered the fried green tomatoes and in my opinion It was cut too thick and needed more spice. The mac and cheese needed a dash of salt and I was disappointed in the cornbread this time. This first time I had the cornbread the edges were crispy, with a nice buttery inside. This time I felt it was rushed out of the oven.

V
Victoria Brown

Today, the food was a little less stellar than it has been in times past. Operations seemed noticeablybetter. The biggest change to me was the wait staff.... and not for the better. Service was rushed and very transactional. No time was devoted to relational service at all. It was very disappointing since I brought a friend who has been wanting to dine at Lucille's for quite some time. She said the food was fine but the overall experience was not worth the drive. I can't say it was bad. But, I can say it's not as good as it was in the past.

C
Crystal Richardson

I’ve heard nothing but positivity about this restaurant, so we decided to give it a try for dinner. The atmosphere is very cute, clean and inviting. Our server was wonderful and helpful with helping me decide on a meal based on what’s popular. Not really any parking options, so valet was basically a must; but atleast it wasn’t too pricy. Now, the food. I will say the way the food was described to me flavor wise by coworkers was a little disappointing. I didn’t experience the same reaction as them. They loved the flavor, but I believe it could have been a little more. The salmon was good and my boyfriend had the chicken and he said it was alright. I think what really threw me off was the corn in the corn bread. I was never a fan of corn in corn bread and never will be. I’m not sure if I missed that on the menu because I wouldn’t have ordered it. My drink was tasty though.

Service was good, especially because we didn't have a reservation. We were sat immediately our server was friendly and pleasant. I ordered a fish dish, and the fish was a bit dry for my taste. My date enjoyed her food, so overall, a successful diner service.

I don’t usually rank restaurants, but I have to say this was a great experience, vibe, food and drinks hits on all levels. 4.8

The food was excellent! We started with the Boudin balls and then the soup. My wife had the chicken and mashed potatoes, while I had the pork shanks. The portions were huge, and there were plenty to take home. For sides, we had the Nac and cheese and the hot rolls. The flavor was great! The service was excellent—very attentive but not overbearing. The dining room was nice and spacious. I highly recommend it. Now the valet service, on the other hand... It is mandatory. Ok, I get it. I'm not complaining about that. But the service was horrible. Did not offer to open my wife's door coming or going. They were more interested in their phones than in working. They were just going through the motions. Don't let the beginning and ending of the meal scare you away. Go for the food, not the valet service.

The food here was amazing!! Don’t stop, run to this restaurant! Only one thing I wish they changed was to display their restaurant week menu for September. I had to ask the waitress for the menu specifically… it was like they were concealing their restaurant week menu..

Tried this place out during Houston Restaurant Week and so glad we did! The deal was amazing for the price. The vibes were great throughout. Only thing negative was the valet parking and how there was no public parking available. If you go def try their bread pudding.

Very cute little fine dining spot. service was top notch. I wouldnt recommend the shrimp & grits. It seems the chef was looking to be different, this was more of a soup, broth-like, oodles of noodles flavor rather than the savory thick shrimp & grits most would be expecting. Parking is also nonexistent. There is a parking lot right here on the property but I found quickly that some how patrons were not allowed to use it lol. The sushi place next door had valet run out and threatening to have us towed the minute we exited the car lol. We were in handicap parking by the way lol. I'd almost decided to be done with the place with that encounter in the parking lot as this was my first time trying out Lucilles. Instead of leaving though we parked a block over at the childrens museum and hiked it back to this place. I was sure that some how I'd just been tiring and some how missed the assigned parking spaces so I asked where their parking lot was once we came in. The hostess simply told me most Just use the valet. So lucilles has no parking lot. And one MUST use valet or hike a few blocks or 2 in order to visit the establishment. I didn't really like that. I feel like valet should be a luxury option for those that just want to be able to get in and out right in front of the door without having to get into their parking space. A want item. Thats not the case here. They literally don't have a parking lot. Its odd.

I don't eat southern food very often so I wanted to try Lucilles for lunch. The food was good and I loved the atmosphere. Definitely a good place to try out and enjoy a nice drink.

Lucille’s was our first stop when we got settled on our trip to Houston. We sat at the bar (we didn’t want to wait bc we didn’t have reservations). I was a little confused who our waitress was, but we were at the bar, so it didn’t matter. The appetizer was great! My omelette was just right. The cornbread tasted like old fashion cornmeal/cornbread, very authentic. Good ambience.

We arrived at 5 p.m. and were greeted immediately, as the restaurant was still quiet at that early hour. Initially seated in the back room, we asked to move, and the staff graciously invited us to choose any table we preferred. While the atmosphere was subdued at that time of day, I could imagine it taking on a much cozier charm in the evening, especially with candlelight. Our server, Kevin, was excellent—professional, attentive, and genuinely polite throughout the evening. We began with a smoky Old Fashioned, accented with blackberry and orange peel, a well-balanced cocktail that set the tone for the meal. For a starter, the fried green tomatoes were a standout: crisp, flavorful, and served with a complementary sauce that elevated the dish. For the main course, my wife enjoyed the salmon topped with lump crab, served over rice—a generous and satisfying combination. I opted for the surf and turf: a New York strip paired with grilled shrimp, accompanied by asparagus and smoked mashed potatoes. The flavors were well-executed and hearty. We concluded with a bourbon pecan pie served à la mode. Sweet, nutty, and indulgent, it provided a fitting close to a well-rounded meal. Overall, it was a pleasant evening marked by attentive service, thoughtful touches, and satisfying food.

Was disappointed in that they were completely out of white chicken, collard greens and gumbo only an hour through lunch service. Several things we came specifically to try were unavailable because of this, including the spicy chicken sandwich. The catfish was excellent even though I'm not a fan of catfish. The oxtail Tamales were stellar. Cucumber cocktail was refreshing, the margarita was very strong, unenjoyable-ly so. Will have to return to try their signature dishes. Service was prompt. Outside seating was relaxed but not very clean. The inside looked like a cool setting. The restrooms smelled very musty, so will avoid it on our next visit.

This was my first time at Lucille’s. Its a bit tight inside, I probably would’ve sat outside and it sounded like they had live music…that’s nice. Valet was also quick and had good service overall. The service was good when we sat down; we got bottled water and cornbread to start. The bottled water is from Austin, TX & comes in a glass bottle; it was good. The cornbread….just wasn’t all that to me; a 6/10. And the reason why is because it was doughy; but it WAS cooked…that was just the texture. Anywho we ordered catfish and grits, and an egg white oxtail omelette. The catfish was ok, the grits were a little firm. Very standard dish. The oxtail omelette….it wasn’t nasty it was just…. different. Like the two don’t go together. And it came with a sauce…idk it just wasn’t….to my liking. So i sent it back and got the french toast which was standard, but good. A 7/10. Um…I WOULD come back but only if Im in the area and there arent many other options. I feel like this is a place you come to, you order what you know is doable, and you move on. a 6/10 overall. Average place.

The food was actually pretty good I would give it a five-star but the portions are small like happy meals. The reason that the service was so low because it took 40 minutes for us to get a seat for two inside and it was half empty inside. It seemed like it had more employees than actual customers. Get some covering for the backyard seating, it's too hot to eat and drink in 100°+...

Honestly, I thought what I ordered taste good but I thought the price was somewhat high for French toast croissant and 3 wings. My husband ordered the oxtail omelette which he enjoyed. My husband and I both agreed they give you just enough food to feel satisfied. Don't expect to take a to go plate home. They say everything big in Texas..well not these plates...Lol. You have to make a reservation. Parking is absolutely horrible. Ive been there once and that's all I need.

The food was tasty. Nothing exceptional. I found it to be a little overpriced for the portion size. Only Valet or street/metered parking.

Is was not worth the price. We ordered the ox tail tamales which is only 2 tamales for $23. Not worth it. We ordered the chili biscuits and they were good. I ordered braised ox tails and those were not flavorful. Wife ordered surf and turf and she said it was ok. We also ordered the cornbread and Greens and both of those were ok. I wouldn’t go back to Lucille’s. Sorry just being honest. Maybe I went on a not so good night.

We've been coming to Lucille's for quite a while, but it's been some time since our last visit. We decided to come back — and honestly, we regret it. We're not sure if the ownership has changed, but everything seriously lacks flavor now. I used to love getting the bone-in fried fish — crispy, seasoned to perfection, and absolutely delicious. This time? I got a boneless, soggy, flavorless piece of fish with a weird, bland breading. It was just gross. My husband ordered the oxtails like he always does, and he was just as disappointed. He said they were flavorless, overly fatty, and nothing like they used to be. We don't know what happened to Lucille's, but it's definitely not the same anymore. Sadly, we won’t be returning. Note: Photos are from 2 or so years ago.

I really was looking forward to this after being recommended. Our server Kassy was awesome from start to finish. The food and pricing fell apart. First the Hot Chicken Sandwich was seasoned with way too much cumin and that was not good. Second I ordered the Chicken Fried Chicken and the taste was good however the 4oz portion size was unacceptable for the price of $29. They changed me for a 44 Farms chicken fried steak. Side of extra gravy was .50 which I had no problem paying. We also had a Croissant French Toast with Wings. Wings were a bit small. Overall my experience was less than favorable.

B
Briana Harper

The experience was honestly underwhelming. I didn’t have a reservation, but even though the restaurant was mostly empty, I was still seated outside. I ordered the French toast ($17) and three small wings ($9) — and the portion size and quality just didn’t match the price. It felt like highway robbery for what I got. The servers were kind and attentive, but that was the best part of the visit. For a place that was once considered a Houston staple, it’s disappointing to see it so quiet on a Saturday morning. The high prices and small portions really explain why.

P
Patrick Blummer

Let me tell you I don’t mind paying for good food. But $61 for a main and an app is crazy considering the size of the jalapeño poppers and chicken fried steak. What I would call kids portions. The service was not the best either seeing as how my waiter never came back except to drop my check off. The food and service were the definition of mid. Won’t be back

C
Cailyn Simpson

I’m hoping it was an anomaly, but our food was so under-seasoned it was so disappointing! We got the Chicken and Waffles, which was not seasoned (although the wings were cooked perfectly), and the Catfish and Grits which had no flavor and watery grits. They also said they couldn’t serve us Oxtail because that were “rationing” which we thought was odd since that’s their signature dish.

After visiting the Museum of Fine Arts, we decided to try Lucille’s. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. While the drinks during happy hour were enjoyable, the food fell flat. The appetizers were not fresh; the oxtail tamales felt out of place for a soul food restaurant, and the boudin balls were hard and unappetizing. For the entrees, my husband ordered braised oxtails with collard greens, macaroni and cheese, and cornbread. The oxtails were fatty and lacked flavor, especially for $42. My mother’s yard bird was greasy, and my blackened catfish came with lumpy grits. I asked for mashed potatoes instead, but they too were bland and lumpy. Overall, for a soul food restaurant, the dishes had no soul. It’s disheartening to see such potential missed, and I believe the kitchen could benefit from some authentic culinary guidance. I won't be returning unless it's to offer some cooking lessons.

Should’ve looked at reviews before ordering. I too ordered the shrimp and grits, and feel like I got robbed. Extremely overpriced for what you receive. Zero flavor. Furthermore, when I inquired where self-parking is, valet said there isn’t any. They wanted me to pay the $10 fee for my to-go order, restaurant’s policy. Servers apologized hence two stars. Also, they don’t have an active phone line because they’re “too busy with brunch crowd”. No customer service. Useless. No need to come back or recommend this place. Should be removed from In-Kind.

What Happened to Lucille’s? Seriously—What Happened? We’ve been loyal patrons of Lucille’s for over a decade, but our last few visits have left us deeply disappointed. The decline in service and quality has been noticeable, and our most recent experience was the final straw. Reservations and Hosting: Despite having a reservation, the host stand seemed disorganized and inattentive. We had to remind staff twice to provide silverware and menus—basic necessities that should be automatic. Service and Staffing: Service was slow, even though the restaurant wasn’t any busier than usual. The lack of urgency and attentiveness was evident throughout our meal. Menu and Food Availability: You were out of almost every staple: collard greens, fried chicken—essentials for a Southern BBQ joint. The substitutions were unequal; for example, we were given a bagged salad instead of collard greens, and the salad itself was mostly bitter, hard lettuce ends. Food Quality and Value: The quality control was inconsistent at best. When we were finally able to order chicken and waffles after being told there was no chicken left, the wings were so small and skinny that paying $25 for the dish felt absurd. The meal simply wasn’t worth the price. Management and Customer Experience: Although our server kindly asked the manager to comp one of our meals, the gesture—while appreciated—wasn’t enough to salvage the experience. The manager never visited our table to apologize or explain, which would have at least shown some accountability and care. Final Thoughts: For a historic Houston icon with deep community roots, this level of service and quality is unacceptable. My advice: close for a week to retrain your staff and retool your operations. Unfortunately, I won’t be returning, and I won’t be recommending Lucille’s to friends or family. If they want to try it, they’ll have to go on their own.

Our first visit to Houston and Lucille's was on our must visit list. We arrived shortly after they opened for lunch. There's only a valet ($10) or street parking. We were seated immediately but noticed two other tables had been seated before us. After 10 minutes of waiting, I finally asked the hostess for the waiter. During this time, another table walked out. Quincy and Sheldon finally arrived at ask for our drinks. It was Sheldon's first day, and Q was training him. Q was not very pleasant and treated the other guests with more hospitality than he did us. He did not give an overview of the menu, did not ask if we had questions, did not ask if our food was OK, did not disclose there was a separate kids menu, and did not provide a receipt even though I said yes when he asked if I wanted a copy. I decided that at this point $70 was enough for a drink, appetizer, and meal for my kid. I didn't even order the entree I wanted to try because the service was so poor. I addressed all of this to him as we were leaving. He would not face me or look at me while I was explaining that his customer service left a lot to be desired. He did not care that he didn't present his best as the "face of the restaurant." I highly recommend AVOIDING this restaurant. *Sheldon was nice, personable, and tried to engage me in conversation when he noticed the poor service but Q kept telling him to "keep it moving"

Didn’t have a good experience here. Waiter was friendly but also dropped tea on us. Broken glass on table. They didn’t allow us to sit inside even though it was hot outside. Charged full price. Wasn’t offered any concessions. Sweet tea was not sweet also. Food served Luke warm. For $275 I expect a lot better.

Patronized the restaurant in October 2025 and the experience was not good. The food was almost inedible. I was underwhelmed by food items such as Catfish and Shrimp and grits lacking flavor. I've never seen tomatoes in shrimp and grits before and thought it would be interesting to try; however, I was mistaken. We were a party of seven and the server was inattentive. I would not recommend this experience unless the recipes change.

The food was absolutely horrible! I ordered the chicken and waffle, the chicken was burnt and tasted like "old grease". I make better chicken and waffles at home. The Mac N cheese was bland and not worth the money. My husband got the chicken fried steak and it was "ok". Parking os hideous and valet is expensive. I am looking at other photos posted by customers and I feel as if I got the bottom of the barrel, in terms of food.I only received 2 small wings and a waffle that looks as if it was sitting in the kitchen waiting to be utilized. I reached out to management SEVERAL times in regards to my visit and of course, I received NO response. The food is expensive and not worth the hype. But I must admit, they need to give their PR person a raise, that's why we decided to spend our hard earned money here. Poor food quality, poor service and poor management response

This was our initial visit, and I have mixed feelings about the experience. We began with the green tomatoes and chili biscuits as appetizers. The green tomatoes were satisfactory, and notably, they were the only dish served hot throughout the entire meal. Unfortunately, the chili biscuits arrived cold. For our main courses, we selected the seared salmon, pork shoulder, braised oxtail, and yard chicken. All main dishes were served lukewarm. The braised oxtail was tough, and the accompanying grits were cold. While the pork shoulder itself was warm, its sides were cold. Similarly, the salmon and chicken were warm, but their accompaniments were cold. A consistent issue was that the primary protein component of each dish was merely warm, while all other elements were cold. It appears the kitchen staff possesses the ability to plate food attractively, but the temperature consistency is a significant concern. Rick provided excellent service and assistance, but there appears to be a lack of proficiency in the kitchen. We did inform Rick that our green tomatoes order was incorrect, as the server who delivered it completely disregarded our feedback. She simply stared at us and departed when we politely pointed out the issue. This establishment has considerable potential due to its menu offerings, but improved communication and quality control within the kitchen are essential. We greatly appreciate Rick's outstanding service.
