First visit in a few years. Five of us celebrating my daughter's birthday. Food was excellent - we all had starters and mains, which were all tasty with generous portions (my squid starter was a tad disappointing, but not going to mark them down for that). Friendly and efficient service from both bar and waiting staff.
First visit after lock down reopening. Pub well prepared in terms of maintaining safety measures for guests. Full English breakfast was generous in size and tasty. Special appreciation for served "home made" toasts. Don't be afraid to visit this place. You will enjoy it as much as I did.
This is my second visit, my first was over the summer. The food is consistently good here. I visited with a group of 5 of my friends for lunch. Nice cosy atmosphere inside. The service was friendly and fast. Nice large tables for small groups. 10 minutes walk from the marina where my boat is moored. Highly recommended.
The King's Head in Napton is a country gem, a hidden secret in my opinion. The service is impeccable, the staff are friendly, the food is gastronomically tasty and good quality at reasonable prices and beer is spot on. A great quality pub with a great garden, alfresco dining and the interior well I can't wait to eat in! I've been twice now and can easily get addicted to the King's Head.
We’ve just had a wonderful lunch at the King’s Head. We were a table of 3 with a dog and when we arrived their booking system was down and the place was very busy. In the time it took to order drinks at the bar, the manager had found us a nice table by the fire and comped our mains which was very generous. The Sunday roasts were excellent with huge Yorkshire puddings and all the trimmings. Our desserts were also delicious with generous portion sizes. The service was great despite how busy it was, and we will definitely be back.
Just been for a meal here and our first time visiting Napton on the Hill. It is a miserable night and we are staying just up the road from here and thought we would give it a go. The attentive young ladies present saw us helplessly searching for the entrance and came out and invited us in. We said we hadn't booked but they said no problem. I ordered the RACK of ribs...and believe me it was a rack and a half...immense, it was cooked to perfection and tender with a rich sticky sauce accompanied by fries and coleslaw (to be honest I couldn't finish it as lovely as it was). My wife Ali had the Sea Bass accompanied with petit pois à la francaise and potatoes which she said was georgeous. The ladies who took care of us were really efficient, polite and very smiley...a pleasure to see in these times of shortages in the service industry. I used to be in the trade and it was good to see they knew what they were doing and contributed to a very pleasant meal. For dessert I had the Banofee concoction which I can say was delicious and presented really well in quirky glasses. I don't like Banoffee Pie but this alternative was spot on. My wife doesn't favour desserts but she said it would have been nice if a cheese selection had been on offer..so please note Management. At the end of the meal was that nights offer that you could toss a coin to see if you got your meal half price...we lost...we didn't care as the food had been so good anyway. I think we paid £65 in all with drinks & gratuity which I would happily spend again. A really great meal well appreciated by us. Thank you. Just a footnote, we enjoyed it so much we went back again last night and my wife had the same and I had the scotch egg & black pudding starter and the baked cheese which were both presented really well and tasty. Service again spot on.
The staff are kind and good and the portions are very good for the price. The drinks came out quick enough but the food looked AMAZING and the burger was the best that I’ve had in a long while and was very filling and they have a good selection on the menu. It’s a great environment inside and out and mainly inside is very well decorated while making it an excellent place to sit and eat food. The kids menu has good portions for children as well while keeping it at a reasonable price. There are always different specials making it a good place to come continually and not get bored. Would recommend and come again. Edit: I ended up having the sorbet for dessert and it was amazing.
The Kings Head serves everything needed to enjoy an awesome restaurant experience. The staff is very friendly, the facility warm, inviting and the food is really good therefore meriting a "true 5". We ordered the Not a scotch egg, squid and prawns to start. Then enjoyed the burger, steak and sea bass. Our group visited from Canada on business and we truly enjoyed the experience!
Superb Experience. Great staff, wonderful interior and a superb Sunday Roast. Obvious attention to detail. Easy walk from our Canalside moorage. We arrived right at the end of Sunday Roast service but because we pre-ordered on line our food was waiting. Fresh, hot and very tasty. A Gluten-free roast option was even available.
A few friends and I visited on Friday evening and had a lovely meal, but what really made the night was the fantastic service. We were looked after by a young blonde lady who was incredibly personable — always smiling, with a great sense of humour. She had such a natural ability to make everyone feel comfortable and at ease, which is a rare and special quality. The young man behind the bar was also excellent — both of them provided truly outstanding customer service. They really made our evening! If you do pass this review on to the team just say it was the lady with the cup of tea and they will know who we were.
It was pretty quiet when we popped in for a quick drink. Barman checked which wines were vegan for me. No fuss.
We had our first meal here since the new ownership and it was amazing. The welcome was friendly from the moment we opened the door, the place was buzzing. The food was excellent, really hot and tasty, great menu to choose from - not loads of pages, just a well considered selection. The service was outstanding, attentive yet discrete and with recommendations based on our choices, not pushing any specific dish - and good humoured too - made the evening that much better. I'd not hesitate in recommending The Kings Head to anyone.
First time under the new management and a lovely evening with excellent food and service from the chef team now running it. A small but interesting menu, recommend the ox-cheek pie, it was homemade and superb! We decided on a sweet and that was the right one, wonderful. Couldn’t fault it - thank you!
My wife and I met up with friends at The Kings Head for a midweek lunch. It was our first visit. It is in many respects a traditional pub and feels very much like a "local pub". None of our party, however, live locally to the pub. The atmosphere was warm and friendly. The menu was relatively small. Personally I prefer this. I much prefer restaurants & pubs to focus on delivering quality rather than quantity. The menu included a couple of excellent vegetarian options. The service was truly excellent, as was the food. It was also very good value. Clearly, you can tell that we liked the place and will undoubtedly return.
Excellent pub. Food could not be better, great value for money. Welcoming and helpful staff. Great atmosphere, nice and warm. Will use again for sure.
Great pub. Super clean. Friendly welcoming staff. Lovely log fire in the winter. Super garden for the summer. Tasty beers & food too. Well worth visiting.
I only popped in on the off chance the pub had reopened as I needed to charge my EV. They have 4 x 60kW chargers here which doesn't come up on Maps! Very pleased and had a nice chilled drink whilst I waited. Staff were very friendly and helpful so will definitely return soon.
We happened across this pub by accident and it was fabulous. The food was outstanding and the staff were so welcoming. Thank you Kings Head from Steve and party
Absolutely delicious sunday roast. Had Pork and Beef - both options stunning. Small but well executed selection of lagers and cider on tap. Gluten free options available and clearly marked, staff friendly, knowledgable and helpful. Not much parking around but hey, what can you do. Definitely will be coming back!
I've been working in the area for a while now. There's always been a warm welcome here, a nice mix of food pub and local pub. Really welcoming
We were driving past an dropped in for lunch there was a small but varied menu and the food was delicious. The dining area was open and normal talking sounded loud due to the acoustics, not a massive issue though.
What a great place to stop..... food was superb and staff incredibly curious but still funny and very personable.... Can't recommend highly enough.... I should have taken the picture before I started to eat but it just smells so good.....😁... king posh Gammon with a poached egg in very light crisp batter.....
Fantastic food and drink Friendly staff Whoever keeps ale is doing a fantastic job Will be going back Been back again was just as good as before
Great place to stop for a drink and food. Nice big garden with plenty of seating and umbrellas. Dog friendly and the staff are pleasant.
We went there one evening on our holiday. The food was very good the service as well. The building is a nice pub - very british. The only downside was, that the pub was very noisy. But we can highly recommend the food there - very tasty.
Quiet place, little out of the way but worth it, food wax great, small menu well presented
Came on a Sunday a few weeks ago with family for lunch. The food was delicious and a very high quality. The service was excellent and we had a great experience. Will definitely be making a return visit.
Oh really great pub and good wholesome food. Lovely staff and we shall visit often.
We stopped for lunch as we were passing on our way home from Norwich and were so pleased that we did stop there. The lunch (French onion soup and fish sandwich) were excellent and both exceeded our expectations. Our dog was made very welcome too and also looked after superbly. Thank you and good luck with your new venture.
We called in during a walk and despite being busy they managed to seat us for Sunday lunch. The food was really good quality and plentiful. Not cheap, but great value. The service was also very attentive and friendly. It's a lovely pub and we'll definitely be back.
A lovely Sunday lunch in a comfortable setting. Staff were fantastic and the landlord welcoming. Good beer, good food, pleasant ambience. Recommend
We went in on Saturday Lunch to check out the pub as we had heard that it had changed hands. It has become so bright and vibrant inside, a very open plan and welcoming family atmosphere off the go. All of the staff greeted us with a smile and had a fairly good knowledge of their stock. We had the ceaser salad, some chips and duck ragu and our waitress informed us it was all completely freshly made that day. That it was! The chips were absolutely delicious, fresh potato's and light and fluffy but crispy. Both if our other meals were excellent as well. We sat outside for a drink and the pub seemed to get a fair bit of foot traffic so I am so happy to see the locals coming in! The new management seem to have really gone full out on this new open. Their efforts and time have definitely not gone un noticed considering how busy it was on only day 2. Couldn't recommend this place enough!
Great Sunday lunch bonus ..they have electric car chargers in the car park
Great menu, varied and something for everyone. Only small drawback for us was that we had to sit outside because indoors was a bit echoey and loud.
Stopped for lunch after a walk. Although there was a really big event going on in the restaurant, we were still able to get a table in the bar area where we were served promptly with delicious food complimented with really good local ale. One of the nicest pubs I've been in for a while.
Wow a amazing night....food was beautiful....staff are a credit to the place and I will definitely go again.....felt warm and inviting and we could of spent many hours there drinking and chatting. Soup of the day was out of this world...we felt welcomed and loved....please visit and we hope you're experience is as good as ours.
Went to the Kings Head for a very impromptu lunch for 8, the kitchen was due to close at 2.30pm and they held it open for us, and even let us order from the dinner menu as well as the lunch, they could not have been more friendly and accommodating, plus the food was great. Would highly recommend.
Very pleasant find. We thought to try this place as I am always driving past this. We had their Sunday roast. Portions were large to the point that I could just about finish the meal. Always a good thing in my eyes. Will definitely visit again.
The food was absolutely delicious, everything was fresh and cooked to perfection and all the flavours went well together. I felt sorry for whoever had to wash up the assortment of plates, bowls, miniature buckets and mugs that it arrived in, but this didn't detract from the quality of the meal. I was slightly disappointed that there were only two veggie main courses to choose from (not even a vegetarian pizza, which should be easy). Although I enjoyed what I had, I left still feeling hungry. My partner had a meat heavy meal and felt very full afterwards. I don't know why restaurants always assume vegetarians have less of an appetite than meat eaters. My main reason for 4 stars is that we felt both rushed and ignored although this sounds like a contradiction. We were ushered straight into the restaurant when we arrived and not given a wine list until we ordered desert, it took some time to get a drink and was hard to get the attention of a server to get another. However they didn't give us enough time between the main course and the desert but then seemed to forget about giving us the bill.
We were driving home after a day out and stopped here as we drove past. Was a lovely pub, with a decent garden. It was the perfect evening for pizza and cider in the pub garden!
Take a cushion as wooden chairs most uncomfortable! Had fish and chips and although fish was lovely the batter was soft, the chips soggy and peas over cooked …all in all really disappointing.
We visited here in o tower of last year and liked it so much we paid another visit. To be honest, this time we were disappointed. When we walked in, there were 3 gentlemen having a drink and us. We didn't feel that comfortable, it had a smell of drains, the barperson wasn't very welcoming and they didn't have much choice in the way of drinks. We were going to eat the next night but decided not to. In October, we ate there twice and the food was very good.
Pub dinner for family of 5 on a Saturday in June 2025 Cons: - piddly portion, cured pork belly (overcooked with shoe sole effect on bottom layer of meat) served with 2 bits of broccoli and 2 potato croquettes with black pudding nuggets straight from the freezer and apple sauce for 21£ - 3 burgers (16£) and 1 rib eye steak (25£) came with burnt chips on the side. - soft drinks came out of a mixer (not bottled), classic coke had no taste - on top of it, broken dishwasher so no proper size glasses available for our soft drinks Pros: - lovely staff - quick service - good size garden with wooden covered gazebo - booze likely ok as not made/mixed on site, not tasted
