Had a quick lunch here. Friendly service and tasty food!

Best sushi place in the Bay Area. I can enjoy a maki roll here for weeks in a row and leave with a smile. Staff is exceptional and the sushi is reliably very good.

M

My family and I have been coming here for YEARS. So grateful it has remained at the shopping center despite all the changes! Good place to drop by for a casual bite.

This place is AMAZING. I’m sitting outside at a picnic table after finishing the most delicious sushi I’ve had in a while. So reasonably priced, I ate a meal for two kings for the price of one. The staff was kind and amazingly polite, made us feel right at home, was so prompt with their service too! As for the food, the salmon sashimi was the thickest slab of fish I’ve ever seen in my life and it was just as tasty as it looked. The avocado rolls were PACKED with perfectly ripe avocados. I envy the folks that live close enough to visit this place regularly, it DEFINITELY needs more customers and love!!!

This is my favorite take out sushi place in Palo Alto. It always tastes great, the price is good (around 5$ for standard rolls, 10$ for special rolls) and the staff is friendly. The restaurant itself is very small and simple - cafeteria style tables and chairs, bright white light... so I would not recommend this for a romantic dinner. But for lunch or take out it's the best!

This is one of the best sushi restaurants in the bag area. They are a hidden gem. They practice strong integrity and the food is always consistently delicious! And they prepared the salmon just like I love it!

N
Nicole Quilliam

Awesome sushi and food here. The service is awesome. This is a nice gem of town and country. Sometimes the place can be busy, but I haven't had an issue getting a table. I recommend their hand rolls! Brown rice is an option too.

G
George Hernandez

Unassuming restaurant with great sushi and service. Portion sizes reflect pricing but quality is not sacrificed. Great service and pleasant experience overall.

I'm getting emotional just thinking about this place. This was one of the few authentic, down to earth Japanese restaurants in the extremely snobbish and overpriced town of Palo Alto. Given the lack of affordable and authentic Asian food in the area, I am so grateful Sushi House was an option for delicious, hearty bento boxes. Quality is on par with Yayoi for around 60% of the cost.

Been coming here since I was a little kid, and it’s stayed a favorite place for our whole family for decades now! Really lovely people; the service is always good, even when they’re slammed. The bentos, chicken salad, and udon are delicious (though can’t speak to the sushi as I’ve never had it).

T

favorite sushi take out place of our family for the last ten years, super friendly people and services. Our favorite is spicy salmon rolls with avocado and no green onions, nigiris are very good too.

I think I've been here at least 400 times now and I've been coming here regularly for almost two decades. The food is good and the prices are reasonable. The bento boxes are great for kids. It's also good for takeout.

Been going here for over 8 years. Top quality sashimi and always a consistant service. Servers here remember you and how you like your food. Food comes out super fast as well.

This is my favorite sushi! I love their salmon skin rolls - they are my absolute favorite. I've only eaten takeout, so can't speak to the atmosphere.

Our go to family sushi place for straightforward classics. Always fresh, nice presentation, friendly staff and a good value.

Great sushi. Not enormous portions but the prices reflect smaller sushi rolls. Great sushi, it came out very quickly. Staff was incredible and very nice. Would recommend. They have seating inside and public seating outside the restaurant. You can tell many people do carry out here.

The food tastes great! There are a lot of options, so even if you don't like sushi there's plenty of options, like miso and udon. The staff are always patient and attentive. There are many affordable roll options, and the menu is decently priced for the area as well. Great place to go with a partner or a group of friends.

A great place for authentic Japanese cuisine. The staff is very friendly and the fish is very fresh. I eat here often in one of my book groups. Please note that if you arrive around lunchtime during the school year it can look like there is a line out the door BUT that is usually Paly Students getting a takeaway lunch. Just respectfully push past them and put your name on the list for a table and the wait is usually short~10 minutes

T

Comfortable casual sushi, friendly outdoor seating... I've been wanting to try this place for a while and dropped by for a late lunch, a spicy hamachi roll and salmon maki. Fresh, tasty, and a great value, I'm looking forward to trying more.

Great Dragon roll! Best we have tasted in the last 20 years. Miso soup was great with large servings of tofu and seaweed in the soup. We arrived about 11:30 am, did not have a long wait, but once we left about 12:30, line was out the door on a Monday.

“Don’t judge a book by its cover” its dark and by its look I would not eat there. But the food was delicious and SO FRESH! Staff super friendly. If you’re around definitely check it out! Dragon roll was so yummy the house salad can be split by 2.

Love Sushi House and have been going there since before I moved to the South Bay. Always great, fresh food, friendly service and usually easy to get a table. My only suggestion is, the place needs a coat of paint and some art on the walls to cheer it up. It looks pretty dismal, unfortunately, therefore the 3 stars for "atmosphere".

A
Anna Itoi

I have been eating at Sushi House for almost 30 years and have almost always ordered their amazing Chinese Chicken salad (prepared the Japanese way) and shrimp tempura udon. It is my go-to place for authentic Japanese comfort food, and their Chinese Chicken salad is the best I’ve ever had. I hope they never change that dish!!! Also, Rueben the waiter, is awesome and has waited on my table for almost 20 years. I appreciate such consistency in staff who go above and beyond.

Great staff my friends often come here to get food and the workers are really kind and always greet them. It gives the sense of community and they genuinely love doing their jobs. I recently went for the first time and ordered their teriyaki chicken bowl. It’s really affordable and it taste good and there’s a lot of protein in it. Fast service, friendly staff.

Has very good, delicious Sushi. Lots of vegetarian options. The ambience, though not excellent, is pretty good -- I would bring a date here. My only complaint regarding the food is that they do not always provide as much picked ginger as they should with the Sushi. Other than that, the food gets two thumbs up from me.

Made a stop after going to Stanford Medical Center. It was quick and good. Conveniently located in a shopping center nearby, lots of options.

* Must-try dishes: - Unadon: It is delicious and has substantial Unagi. - Bento Box Combo: Nothing can be better than choosing two different main dishes in a single bento box when feeling starved at night. - Chicken Karaage: It tastes tender and juicy even being deep fried. * Cost: $15~25/person * 4-star reason: Sushi house is not a fancy Japanese restaurant, but it is definitely a great and cost-effective restaurant. It may always be forgotten since it is not in a very popular area, but a good choice for Stanford students if you feel reluctant to drive far for food.

Plent of space to eat outisde. Fairly reasonable price for sushi. 11 pieces were less than 10$. There is a clear sign outside that mentions no outside food/drinks inside. A nice place to grab a quick bite to-go if needed. When we went it took about 20 minutes to get our food.

My daughter and I recently discovered this charming little sushi spot and were delighted by our experience. The restaurant, though small, is clean and inviting. The sushi was incredibly fresh and flavorful. The service was efficient, with the waiter quickly taking our orders and delivering the food. While the service wasn't exceptional, the waiter was friendly and attentive. Overall, this is a hidden gem that we highly recommend if you're looking for a quick, delicious, and affordable sushi meal. While we only tried the sushi this time, we're eager to return and explore their bento and udon offerings.

Good experience. Will share more details next visit. I need to check something.

J
Janice Zatarain

The sushi rice seemed very fresh which was nice. The tempura shrimp in the roll was almost cold and not crisp at all. The servers are very kind. However, they should clean up the back area of the restaurant where customers go to use the restroom as it looks very unclean and unkempt. While this is not the dining room where customers are eating their food, it can ruin the experience.

K

nly ordered the spicy tuna sushi and the Philly sushi. For how much they cost I would order the spicy tuna again. The Philly sushi sucked and I love Philly roles. Too much cream cheese imo to the point it just tasted like cream cheese. If I want sushi but don't want to pay a whole lot I'm definitely going here because 13$ for 16 sushi is pretty good for these parts

S
Samantha Harris

We ordered sushi ahead of time and they said it would take 20 min. It took them 45 min and there was no one there. Also the spider roll looked like a spider which I’ve never wanted my food to look like a spider. Sushi was fine.

Y
Yihui Quek

I have to be very honest - everything I have tried here was below average (and expensive!). I even prefer Cardinal Sushi, that delightfully decent hole-in-a-wall, to here. This place reminds me of Sushi88 in Mountain View, but that one is much better. No idea why it has 4.1 stars.

P
Pablo Nusenovich

It's the definition of average sushi, in a decent place and ok service. The rice, miso soup, and fish (although fresh) were average at best. The bento boxes weren't appealing and the meat in one of them wasn't good at all. The Chirashi was a good portion of rice and sashimi. This place is well located in a campus area, affordable by students; wouldn't survive in, say, Santana Row. Unless I have nothing else to eat around, I doubt I'd come back to this place.

A
Ali Mehdizadeh

The sushi was below average, the place wasn't the cleanest (especially the back and bathroom area) and it was comparatively a bit expensive. The host (seemed like the owner) was not friendly but the waiter was nice. I don't recommend this place and won't be visiting again.

Notes to self about the lunch beef teriyaki takeout. Not impressed. Not authentic. Beef teriyaki was way overcooked and no sauce (dry, see picture). Salad was good, the dressing was heavily oil based. The cali rolls were surprisingly good. Sushi maybe the go to for this place. However, this is based on the 2 piece cali roll I had.

Extremely over priced by any standard with the thinnest slices of fish i have seen on sushi and negiri, not in a good way. Rolls were stuffed full of overly sweet immatation crab. Wait staff were nice. Would not eat here again.

We have been regular customers for years, including through the pandemic. Tonight we came in ordering three sushi rolls for our five year old who had his heart set on ikura for dinner. It took exactly 57 minutes for them to deliver three sushi rolls. They recently reopened the dining room, and they're still doing a vigorous online order business. The kitchen was packed full of staff, and we were lied to three times by the service staff who said the food would be out in 5 minutes or less. 57 minutes is an unacceptable amount of time to wait for 3 rolls of sushi. If they had let us know that it would be anything beyond a reasonable 20 minutes, we would have gone elsewhere. We won't be back anytime soon; an hour for a tiny tray of sushi is UNACCEPTABLE.

T
Tetiana Busel

Bad service. Gave us wrong check for $37 dollars with someone else's order, you could not tell from the check what item cost what. Out order was for $17. Stuff are too busy and everyone rushes, even thought it was not so many people on Sunday noon. I also forgot my latte on the table that I just picked up from Peets, since I was confused about the check and trying to figure it out, and they just threw it away, even though we were still there.

S
Stuart Green

The staff was nice enough, but I’m sorry to say that the sushi was awful — much worse than airport or supermarket sushi. We left much of what we ordered uneaten. Based on my experience, I would definitely avoid.
