Opiniones de Maíz de Cacao Ciudad De México
Excellent restaurant! We had both dinner and breakfast there and I highly recommend it. For dinner we had a vegetarian and chocolate tamales. We also had atole de guayaba as a hot drink - delicious! For breakfast, we had eggs, cafe de olla and atole with piloncillo and everything we sooo good and sooo fresh - I highly recommend and will come back again ❤️ Obsessed with atole, what a perfect drink 🌽
We loved our breakfast here. We had blackberry (la mora) tamales (mine with “queso” which was cream cheese), the chocotamli (chocolate tamale) and both were fantastic and savory. We also had a Chocolate Espresso “Anatolia” (wow!), and a Champurrado which is a corn based chocolate drink that is a must try. I’ve never had a meal like this before.
The food was delicious and flavorful! We got the gordibuena, the tlayudas de adobo, and the tamale de tlacolula. The adobo was super rich and the meat melts in your mouth. The spreads and dips they bring are all a great addition as well. The store is chill and small, but could use larger tables. The food came out super quickly and wasn’t overpriced for being in Roma. The servers were nice as well! The menu is only in Spanish so get Google translate ready.
What an amazing experience! Came here right after visiting Teotihuacán while my brother was visiting from CA and he loved it, we all had a great time. I was so excited to have a Tejate again for the 1st time in awhile and it definitely didn’t disappoint! I tried most of the vegetarian tamales & the shrimp tamale, I definitely didn’t like that one but everything else was yummy.
Very interesting culín space showcasing on of the several aspects of the cuisine from Veracruz state. We tried the wedding meatballs, on of the tamales and the grilled cheese on banana leaves and of course the black beans soup. Everything was delicious. Unfortunately was our last stop before coming back to California. We will come back! Hi

Authentic Mexican food and atmosphere. Dishes and traditional drinks are delicious. Wonderful hand made tortillas with white and blue corn. Friendly staff, a little slow though. Fair prices.

Maíz de Cacao has undeniably great food. The tamales are especially delicious. You'll need to arrive early to make sure you get what you'd like as they do run out of menu items earlier than you'd expect. However, while the food is great, the service is pretty poor. It took 15 minutes from the time we arrived just to order. It was hard to get staff's attention after that. Otherwise this would be a five star review. Indoor and outdoor seating is available. Credit cards are accepted.
We wanted to try some tamales while in Mexico City so we stopped by here after reading some of the raving reviews. I ordered the chapulines tamales, pork tamales, and a cacao atole. The chapulines tamale was incredibly tasty, but unfortunately, the pork tamale was very underwhelming. This was a little saddening because the description sounded really good lol. It was my first time trying atole, and I found the flavour to be pretty interesting. I could see myself enjoying this more as a hot stand-alone beverage rather than an accompaniment to a hot meal though. I wouldn't say that the food I had here were too exciting for my personal taste, but still I definitely would recommend the chapuline tamale! The atmosphere was also quite nice even though the service felt a little cold but this was an issue with language more than anything else.
Came here Sunday noon, there's live music which adds to the vibes & charm. Pretty popular place it seems. Ordered: Costillitas de cerdo Well seasoned, it came with handmade tortillas and seared cheese. Great flavor, good texture, tortillas is ok, not the best Chiltotonik Lovely chicken stuffed pepper sandwich, very spicy but SO good Atole yauitl & chocolate 'cha" both taste good, grainy texture may not be for everyone Tamales Ayotyl & Piques Ayotyl was fine - banana leaf wrapped tamales with dried shrimp and pumpkin Piques was not good - corn husked tamale was was dry like a baguette. Had two bites, did not finish. Both tamales were dry, don't get the tamales here. It's upsetting that tamales on the street back in NYC were better than theirs. Other items were decent. The price for food leans a little more expensive than I would pay for the quality you get.
I really wanted to try tamales in Mexico and found this place close by and highly rated. We got the two chicken tamales and hot chocolate. I would not recommend this place. The tamales were super dry and lacked flavour. I was so excited to have tamales and this place really disappointed.
Very expensive for the type of food. Not much meat options. Mostly beans and tamales. It tasted fresh but very overpriced and small portions. The waiter mistakenly gave us the wrong order and then when we ordered more she forgot to put the order in. I would go just to try the tamales other than that it’s not worth it.
We were really looking forward to have breakfast here, as the menu and atmosphere seemed quite promising. Unfortunately, our experience fell short of expectations. We ordered two drinks — Atole de maíz and Tascalate — along with Huevos en salsa de chile seco and picaditas. However, we waited over an hour and a half for our food to arrive, and when it finally did, it was cold. The flavors were underwhelming, and to our surprise, the service felt dismissive and unaccommodating throughout. While delays can happen, the lack of courtesy made the wait even more frustrating. Sadly, what began as a promising visit turned into a disappointing experience. I hope this feedback helps improve the service, but based on this visit, I wouldn’t recommend it especially considering the price. I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re hoping for a warm, flavorful meal or a welcoming start to your day.
Not sure what other people are smoking to give this place a good review, but I would rather starve than be forced to come back here and wait for the poor service and super dry tortillas. You can really taste the handmade aspect, if those were gorilla hands that made them. The tortillas were super thick and dry, with no taste, and honestly were the worst thing about this place. I’ve gotten better service on budget airlines than this place.
