The best fish tacos around!! Try with the green salsa yum!!
Phenomenal food with reasonable prices. Been coming here for twenty years!
Very good food and friendly staff. Will definitely return.
Very friendly staff, decent to cheap price, and food was really really good.
Nice clean taqueria, people were very nice and food was delicious
Tasty food and very good prices, the only bad side is that is a small place
Delicious tacos and enchiladas! Quick service and reasonable prices. Highly recommend!
This place is my family’s favorite. Authentic, real Mexican food. Love it!
Such good food made by such a good man.
Very good food, super friendly service. Everyone in our party was pleased with what they ordered.
Delicious food & lovely atmosphere! Fast & friendly service. Chili Relleno was perfect 💖
Deliciously authentic and a incredibly cheap. You have no choice but become a regular with food this good.
The fish tacos with green salsa are the best!!! Tons of fish on them! And super fresh.
Some of the best tacos I've had recently
Amazing fish and shrimp tacos!!! Best I’ve ever had by far!!
Came here to fix a food emergency. Food is delicious and tastes a lot cleaner than other ones. Great place to stop
Fantastic local eats. Phenomenal scallop and prawn fajitas
Authentic taqueria experience. Have the seafood or speciality tacos - tend to be more interesting than the standard fare.
Cozy little space that's clean, friendly, great prices, small beer selection and fresh ingredients!
The fish tacos were some of the best I've had in a long time
Awesome fish burrito! My kids loved the quesadillas too.
Lovely food and great value for money! Seafood is excellent
Great service and amazing enchiladas+quesadillas. Might come back to Monterey just for this!
Fabulous shrimp burrito! Two meals in one serving.
Wonderful food for a fair price and friendly service. Highly recommend!!
Skip the wharf & come here for super fresh & tasty shrimp and fish. Oh so tasty!
Shrimp fajita burrito and artichoke tostada were to die for! Good pricing too.
I've been going there for years. The service is exceptional. I love the tostadas and burritos. It's a tiny out of the way place but it's definitely a place to go to.
Nice taqueria! Real crab meat! Very clean kitchen, dining room and restroom. Lily is exceptionally sweet and helpful with the menu.
Everytime I come to Monterey, this place is a must visit. The food is soo delicious, words cant describe how delicious it is. The service is fast and efficient. The owners are the sweetest and kindest people I have ever met.
Good and fresh food, large portions and lovely, dedicated, hard working owner with a big, kind smile!
My girlfriend and I only go to TAQUERIA DEL MAR when we're craving Mexican cuisine. The service and food is always good, and the price is just right.
Their fish tacos and shrimp tacos were so delicious! Rico!
Best fish tacos! I also loved the shrimp and squid tacos ❤️
Gourmet fish taco, great black beans. Everything fresh and tasty. Friendly service, casual dining, good value.
Great food. Good location. Good prices. Fish tacos were great. I will be back for the enchiladas.
This place is the best. The food is fresh and delicious. Been coming here for 20 years. .Prices are great and the owners are amazing!!!
I give it 5/5 not because it is outstanding food but because it tasted fresh, was priced well, and tasted good. You can not walk put of here and say it was not a good meal.
Great place for lunch while in Monterey. I was visiting the aquarium with the family for the day and we decided to go for lunch off the main drag. Food was great, cooked to order, and came out pretty fast. The fish fajita burrito special was HUGE and very good. I am a big eater and could have easily split it with my wife.
This is a small, no-frills restaurant which dishes out some homely Mexican fare with generous and fresh portions of seafood. Prices are very reasonable. Service is quick and with a big smile. If you are a fussy eater expecting, vegan, vegetarian, ovotarian...etc. then go eat in some fancier place where they may fulfill your desires while they empty your pockets. Leave this place to do its simple, genuine and honest bit of serving tasty hot seafood meals with a Mexican touch.
To me, *this* is the ideal of Monterey cuisine: seafood perfectly incorporated into Mexican food. I usually get two tacos with scallop, squid, or another fish. The tacos are big, but they're so good I can't help to get two. Vegetarian options like artichoke are great too. You know it's a good Mexican restaurant when they bring you two types of salsa in squirt bottles. I don't understand why this place isn't packed all day every day.
The burritos are a little unruly, so you may have to fork & knife it. But they are REALLY good! So are their enchiladas. All authentic, reasonably priced, and delicious. Kind of a hard spot to find, but that just means you'll definitely be able to grab a seat and enjoy your food.
This place is consistently good and offers dishes that I find more tasty than other Mexican places in town. Try the vegetarian burrito, served with both red and green sauces. You get the bottles so you can decide for yourself how wet you want your burrito. Fresh and very tasty. Friendly owners and no use of animal fats in the cooking.
The food is delicious and very tasty, each item we order had it's own flavor like it should, their salsas weren't spicy but they had a ggodd flavor to it. service is quick and friendly and the bathroom was clean and spacious, overall we were glad we found it and they didn't disappoint us at all. We'll be back next we're in town. Thanks !!!!
Best fish and shrimp tacos, burritos and tostadas around! They also have artichoke burritos as well if like something different. Love this place and always a multi stop while we’re in town from Tahoe to surf!
I found this place years ago. If you want authentic Mexican food this is the place to go. Healthy fish tacos that I can't find anywhere else. Very friendly service. This is definitely my Mexican food of all choices. It's small and cozy.. Not fancy at all, but darn great food!!
Thanks love this place. Been coming here for nearly 20 years. Usually get the fish tacos, but other seafood also very good. And the chorizo and egg burrito is tasty. Get the chips and salsa, and be liberal with both the red and green salsas on your food. Enjoy!
Solid Mexican food with fantastic seafood options. The one star reviews are way off and should be ignored. I loved the fish tacos and crab chimichanga and even thigh I am from out of town and I will definitely be back.
Friends really enjoyed their food. I only had a couple Sidrales while they ate. It's a bit small and needs updating, but it's comfortable and the staff are friendly and accommodate special orders.
I've been going to Taqueria del Mar for over ten years. Each time, the food is satisfing and tasty and the salsas are made with just the right amount of ingredients. I usually order the Fish burrito with rice and beans. Everything is grilled to perfection. Will definitely continue to be back for a quick, tasty meal.
The tacos were delicious. We ordered fish, squid, scallop, crab and shrimp. All were excellent! Ta0queria del Mar will definitely be a restuarant we visit each time we sre in Monterey, plus it is just across the street from all the vintage clothiers.
Tastes like you have never experienced before. Perfect combination of fresh ingredients that brings you a bold experience. My favorites are the California burrito and nachos. When squids are in season, they are the perfect addition to the burrito.
Sweet little authentic place. Food's great, and the guy behind the counter is always stoked to let me practice my spanish. Good prices, never crowded. I love.
I’ve never left a review before but I’ve been going here my whole life and it’s still the best fish tacos and best guacamole I’ve had. I recommend to anyone. Also super sweet staff.
If you want the best fish tacos EVER, this is your place. Amazing! And the people that work there are so nice. I consider this place a hidden gem for sure!
Deep flavorful, very delicious Mexican food. The man, who was cooking put his heart into my tacos. I took the food out and it was really nicely wrapped with paper, fully sustainable! can only recommend this place, especially given how hard it is to find a nice place to eat during Saturday rush hour.
absolutely incredible food in a homey, cozy, no-frills spot. we got the fish burrito and an artichoke torta to share. both were fabulous and delicious. the artichoke torta was uniquely flavored, unlike anything i’ve ever had. taqueria del mar is a MUST!
Food was delicious! Fresh seafood prepared well. I tried a fish taco and a crab taco and both were so tasty. Generous portion, two tacos were more than I could eat, had to eat with a fork for quite some time before I could pick them up. Staff very friendly, patient, and accommodating.
Best seafood burritos for 20+ years. I'm sure their other food is great too, but I can't tear myself away from the burritos. They are huge! See pic for size reference.
I bring my family to Monterey several times a year and every time that we do come we must come here for the fish tacos and shrimp burritos. The staff is friendly and place has a clean home-like atmosphere.
Mom and pop, order at the counter type of place. I had the seafood chimichunga and it was delicious. Hot, golden, with creamy mix of tender fish and shrimp inside. 10/10! Side note: the chimichunga was fried on a flat top, not deep fried in a frier
Read about this place on Reddit and decided to stop by before we leave Monterey, and this place turns out to be one of the highlight of our trip! Seafood tacos are great, especially the crab / squid / fish ones. Taste like an aquarium in your mouth 👄🐠
We went to this place every week for a year since we found this hidden gem! It’s a non-pretentious looking place but the food is delicious with freshest ingredients and authentic flavors! I’m a big seafood fan and their seafood tacos are a hit! I have never had seafood tacos that can be compared to theirs. Highly recommend scallop and squid tacos (squid is tender and delicious). You will want to come back! We even went here on the last day before moving out of town. I will miss Taqueria Del Mar!
We ordered crab, squid, fish, scallop and shrimp taco! All are amazing 🤤
Great food and very nice staff. Even if you don't like Mexican food, this is a place you must have tried.
Really great shrimp and scallop enchiladas. Beat green salsa in town.

I can't express how much I love this place, I have eaten here dozens of times. As a person who loves seafood, this is probably the most underrated, best seafood in Monterey. The seafood is always fresh and always cooked to perfection. This is a very casual establishment which means the prices are super reasonable for the meal you get. I HIGHLY recommend this owner-operated establishment, particularly if you like Mexican food, like eating local, and LOVE seafood.
Very nice portions of food for cost!! I asked for extra shrimp & for the first time ever realized I didn’t have to 🤣 Atmosphere is nice for a sit down fast food, parking is easily accessible from an across - lot - which is insanely convenient for this area!
I had the best burrito here, the alpastor was perfectly seasoned and cooked. The tacos are good as well. I forgot to take a picture but even the tortilla was cooked to perfection. Definitely worth the visit. Prices are very reasonable.
I was driving through from SF to LA and had a craving for fish tacos while passing through Monterey. After looking up a lot of places I decided on this one as I love to support small business. I was highly impressed by how fresh and delicious the fish tacos were. The fish tacos came in a small flour tortilla with cabbage and their delicious cream sauce on top. I also got rice, beans, chips and salsa on the side and all were delicious as well. The black beans and rice taste freshly made and very flavorful. The portions were also generous. The restaurant was so clean and the chef prepared and packaged my food to-go so nicely. I will definitely stop by again when I am in the area. I highly recommend this local small joint!
We are on vacation and I wanted fish tacos after looking for several minutes we found this taqueria, this place is excellent! Best tacos, I tried fish, shrimp, crab and scallops tacos wow simply wow! Honestly I can’t choose one they were delicious.
If you want authentic this is the place. Such a cute little spot. The food is Devine! You must try this family owned restaurant.
It was the Best rice we’ve ever had! I had a crab taco and shrimp taco and I can’t tell you which I liked better! My husband had chicken enchiladas. Everything was delicious. The only problem was we didn’t find this place earlier or we would Have eaten there every night. SO good!
Great food ,fresh ingredients, generous portions and perfect service and advices from lily. Place and kitchen is also very clean.
Taqueria Del Mar is second to none. It's small and unassuming, but I've been coming here for 20 years. Food has always been of excellent quality. Artichoke burrito and fish tacos are a must try. Would give 10 stars if I could. I stop by anytime I find myself in the area and you should too.

Best mexican food in town!!! Awesome service!! We will definitely go back!
Unfortunately they put dairy in the guacamole which otherwise would have completed my delicious vegan veggie burrito there. Of course, if you wanted a vegan burrito you would probably go to El Cantaro down the street so this probably won't be relevant for you. Still, the veggies are super fresh and the salsa is top notch. The food is great, service is great, and I would recommend to anyone.
We ordered a carne asada burrito, al pastor tacos and a quesadilla. Everything was fresh and flavorful. They are definitely not stingy with the meats! The only down side is we were craving horchata and they didn't have any.
We have been coming here for a while and the food is so good! I especially recommend any of the seafood! The grilled shrimp fajita are the best in the area. The lady who works here is super friendly and you are close by to everything
Nice selection, about 10 minutes to cook up fresh, abundant and flavorful, friendly service, great prices. Parking can be spotty. Not able to pre-order.

The food was ok,,no real sauce to speak of and no jalapenos, the beer was cold
Giant portions but not as tasty as, say, Andalé. Pretty good, though.
Was not impressed. Hours of operation: they close/open when ever they feel like it so don't go by the posted schedule, and the food is just okay.
No Chile Verde or Colorado on the menu. Settled for a chicken burrito. Very bland. Not much flavor at all. No salt, pepper or napkins on tables. Salsa is watery. They ask for a tip when you place your order.
Only reason they are getting two stars is because the burritos were bug.....otherwise for $9.99 for a beef burrito with MAYBE 10 LITTLE PIECES OF MEAT...mostly rice beans ...
Nice guy, but missing the mark. Needs refried beans, forgot my Tacos of my order (was only person there), tried to support a local, but will choose elsewhere next in town.
Tacos were all incredibly bland - even the salsas were watery.
When a Mexican restaurant uses flour tortillas for tacos it loses all credibility in my opinion. Overall very basic Mexican American food I my opinion. Staff was very good tho.
You’re better off at a taco truck or any other Mexican restaurant. Ingredients are most definitely not fresh.
Did not like this place at all, food was bland and regular plates are served with BLACK BEANS! Not refried pinto beans.
I got the special of two crab and shrimp enchiladas with r/b's. Tiny portions. I can honestly say that I've never been served this little food at a restaurant.
OMG! The sea food tacos here are disgusting. No flavor. The seafood taste weird, bland, no fresh with bagged cabbage. They did not taste fresh or authentic at all. It was such a waste of money. I was surprised at how bad they tasted. They didn’t even have lemons or lime available to squeeze on them fir extra flavor. I think it’s really important that restaurant owners should taste their own food before they serve it. Because if they did they wouldn’t dare serve it to customers. 👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾
Hate to do this, but we were excited to get fish tacos in Monterey. My wife was especially excited as she wanted fish tacos for 2 weeks. So she found this place. She ordered 3 tacos and I ordered a shrimp and crab burrito. My wife said her tacos were bland, had no flavor and she could barely finish one. I had a coleslaw burrito with shrimp and crab. It was very disappointing. So much in fact, I had to promise my wife I'll find a great fish taco spot to erase this memory. The people though were very nice and friendly, but for $35 for 3 tacos, 1 burrito and 2 sodas, expected a LOT more quality
A much better Mexican restaurant is only one block away at 675 Lighthouse, called “La Bahia”, or, “Nacho Bizness” at 615 Lighthouse, also, several other quality Mexican restaurants on Cannery Row. Taqueria Del Mar food is not that good and the business practices price switching. I entered this establishment after reading the displayed menu at the door. I ordered a Burrito (which turned out to be mostly raw cabbage and very little meat or anything else) with two beers. I was told to pay when I was all finished. When I paid I was overcharged by $4. I brought this to the attention of the cashier (Lilly) and the owner as well. I was told that they had increased their menu prices but didn’t take time to update the menu at the door. They adamantly refused to honor their posted menu prices and refund the difference. There are many other Mexican restaurants in the area with much better food, lower prices and a pleasant staff, without dishonesty or disrespect. Go to one of these instead. You won’t be sorry.
I was confused about this place and not impressed by the food. Claims to be Mexican however I believe it’s more along the lines of Central American food. No refried beans, only whole black beans that I’m sure came from a Goya can. Asked for cilantro and onion and was told they don’t serve cilantro and onion. Sauce from enchiladas was sour and they don’t carry tapatio or any spicy chile sauce. They don’t take pride in their food. I’m not about hurting a business but this place needs to turn it around.
So, very nice man at the front counter, with (I believe) his daughter prepping tortilla 'dough'. He took my order, one fish taco...fish is sea bass...cheese extra...no problem....Sat down and watched the man cook the tortilla and then the fish...after awhile he brought me a Taco. ...a large one at that...but something was 'off' ...the smell....it was repulsing...so I waited a moment and then tried to pick the taco up but while doing so was repulsed by the smell once again...I quickly looked towards the trash can but fought the urge to dump it in trash receptacle. ....I tried another little piece thinking it must be me...but the fish did not taste right.... I quickly got up and went to the counter and (with a smile) requested a to go box...I went back and picked up the taco put it in the box and closed it...I took my tray back to the counter along with the salsas and thanked them before departing.....the smell was muted by the closed container or so I thought....I placed the container on the passenger side of my vehicle and then went around to the driver side...in that short amount of time, my car reeked on the repulsive smell....have you ever vomited and then had to clean it up, well that's how the fish smelled, acidic like human vomit....anyhow, I was completely unwilling to drive back with the fish in my car so I tossed it ...out the window...don't judge me, you would have too... Skip this place....and if you are wondering why I did not tell them about the taco - by them I mean the owner and his daughter - well, I was the only customer there on a Tuesday night, and we'll charging $4.75 for a fish taco indicated to me that there is a need for the money so , hey it was a $5 lesson....never ever again....never....
Food was ok, not impressed. They only serve whole black beans. Rice seems to be of the box, flavorless. This is not a real Mexican food restaurant. They only have one person to do everything. In the restaurant.
