Business owner professional Chef 40+years i RARELY leave reviews, but I felt the need to point out subtle the exceptional execution with a few items that were not lost on me, and too the Chef/Owner i applaud your pattie for loco moco and your Hash/Papitas/ Country potatoes. Patty was Hand formed and seasoned? Nice. Papitas, multi step process achieving a sweet crunchy exterior texture and a soft center. VERY NICE. I never ever get run of the mill restaurant hash for the very fact of tasting like a run down Dennys menu item. My mother took the plunge and I was put in my place with my assumption you were not taking the extra steps of making an surprisingly great country potato and people need to order them you won't be disappointed and people will understand how this Country Style potatoes are supposed to relatively be. Now. I can't give you less stars because of your lacking FOH staff, poor service, and they seem very uninformed knowledge of the small menu. Wouldn't be fair to your food. I think it will be in the improved interest to hire a full time FOH Manager(s) who is engaged to fill in the customer service gap. 90%of your neg reviews are around service. Great product. Just poor handling at the customer front end. Otherwise, travelers give them a try for the atmosphere and the food. Outstanding.

We came here twice, once for a late breakfast and once for an afternoon drink. Service both times was exceptional, drinks were good, pricing of entree’s and drinks was appropriate. My wife’s macadamia nut pancakes were delicious as was my corned beef hash skillet. The only downside was the corned beef was lightly crisped on the outside and very mushy on the inside. Definitely recommend to anyone looking for an all around great experience within the Kings Shop area or Waikoloa Village.

Good food! Good Music! They have live music every night on the patio (chill, acoustic stuff) which is cool. You need reservations if you want to have dinner on the patio because it fills up fast. Food was pretty good. Not excellent, but very good, and definitely the best food we had in the area. Their water is really good (I always order water now with being pregnant and some are...well, just gross!). Their's was delicious and they fill your glass regularly, which is nice to see, even if you're not ordering alcoholic beverages. (Sometimes I feel shunned not getting an alcoholic beverage, and they didn't make me feel that way). We ate there 3 times, 2 meals and once for dessert only. The corned beef hash breakfast was "island style". Interesting and like a big mushy patty with a crispy outside. Some of the rice wasn't cooked all of the way, but overall it was delicious, and the portion was huge. The French Toast was made even better with the coconut cream sauce. The fish Tacos are made with whatever the fresh catch is and they are delicious (if we went there another time, I would have ordered them again). They had gotten a special Ahi one day and made a special cesar salad with it. It was kindof strange because the Ahi came out as one big seared piece. I would have expected it to be cut up to go more with the salad. It was ok, not the best. The ice cream sundae, cheesecake, and lava cake w/ice cream were both outstanding. Service was pretty good as well. I'd go there again over any other place in that area.

Had an amazing lunch here! The drinks was super strong! We got buzzed after just one even with food! The lechon WAS AMAZING. So crispy with so much flavor! The Loco Moco was also just as amazing! The beef patty was good quality and the gravy was super savory and tasty! Fish tacos were decent but needed some hot sauce for me!

Big tvs in the restaurant..there is bar seating and tables as well as outside seating. Large bay windows that open. Burger was tasty. Fries were a little over cooked. But Brian my waiter was awesome

Was looking for a quality breakfast where loco Moco was served and we found a great spot with A-Bays Island Grill. There aren't many restaurants serving breakfast in this area so we were glad to find this restaurant.

Great food and live music, relaxing but not too loud. Friendly bartender who knows how to make a proper Whiskey Sour with egg white. Perfect night.

Great Service and delicious food definitely made the nicest mornings for us out in Big Island the only issue was the flies, would suggest fly copters at the tables to keep them at bay.. otherwise great time here... Mahalo 🫶🏾

Delicious seafood cakes appetizer and drinks were delicious! Crem brulee was also pretty darn good!!

Fantastic Happy Hour specials from 3-5pm - get the strip steak and the seafood cakes! The fried items (calamari and onion rings on the steak) were a little overcooked or sitting a tad too long - but that’s a Filipino perspective, the hubby liked them just fine. Blackened ahi was cooked to his perfection. Lots of seating on the patio, and some in the air conditioned dining room, and lots of parking in the Kings Shops lot. Server was prompt and attentive, couldn’t ask for more.

So. Being in Big Island Hawaii the atmosphere is already great. Having a bright spot with big windows to get the sun and views of the shopping center just made it that much better. The service was amazing and waitress checked up on us every 5-8 minutes to make sure we had refills and if see if we needed anything. She was able to explain all the menu items to us which made ordering something a bit tougher since everything sounded good after that. Ended up getting the Korean mix plate which sounds simple enough if you look at it on the menu. But eating it was a completely different experience, the flavor and crisp of the chicken was perfect. There was no part of the chicken that was bland or dry at all and mixed well with the rice. The short ribs that came with the Korean mix plate were made perfectly. Tender all the way through and the sweet and salty marinade they used for it was in every single bite. Also tried the hawaiian painkiller. If you like creamy alcoholic drinks especially with rum. Then this should be pretty high on your "Try it" list. The rumours is smooth with no burn and the cream flavor is amazing. The kimchi and macaroni sides are well made as well and will surprise you on the different but great flavor profiles you're used to for macaroni and potato salad and kimchi. Wish I could've tried the rest of the menu, but so far from these two items I've tried, I'm going with 5 stars all the way and will be eating there again.

Had a great late lunch the service was good. They were very attentive to us. It was a little warm out so they were always refilling the water. The food was pleasantly delicious. We had crabcakes a korean mixed plate as well as a Poké bowl. The Korean mix grill had the short ribs which were very flavorful and the chicken, which was fried very well but still moist. The Aji in the Poké bowl was marinated so it didn’t taste as fresh however it was still delicious. The highlight though was the mixed crabcake that was brought to the table. The drinks were also very strong and delicious.

The food was really good and the service was nice. It puts you in the mind of a sports bar with limited seating inside but tables outside as well.

Friendly service, good ambience and we found on what we wanted on their menu! The banana macadamia nut pancake with coconut syrup! It was super tasty and very big portion size. The breakfast items are served only till ~11am I think. They do have live music in the evening.

Checked out this place while staying across the street at the Marriott. Wife and I both got the fresh catch of the day sandwich which was Ono, Swiss cheese, coleslaw and pickles. Kids got the Mac n cheese which was Kraft. Would return. Also try the fish tacos….. wonderful.

We stayed at the Outrigger for several days in the winter, we tried every restaurant and food option that was available, and this is the best. It is also the cheapest. Everything else was mediocre or terrible. This place has burgers that are decent and a couple other options that are pretty good. It is also right next to the dolphin pools, so you get to see the Dolphins playing around as you eat. Quite nice.

This was our first meal after a long day of travel. We were ordering for a large group and asked the bartender for recommendations. She was very helpful, not only with what to order but how much to order. We took our order to go, but enjoyed a beverage at the bar while we waited. The string lights on the patio were a lovely touch.

A Bay’s is our go to spot visiting the Big Island. We love the people, service and atmosphere. The servers are friendly and have always been accommodating for our needs. What is more impressive is that when we visited here two years ago the food quality has not diminished like many places going smaller or cheaper on ingredients. Our server for several nights, Jack, was truly amazing and gave us awesome service. We will definitely be back the next time visiting the big island. A Bay’s does not disappoint! The Kona coffee crème brûlée is our favorite dessert! A fantastic way to finish off the day watching the sunset.

We had a great experience at A-Bay’s in Waikoloa. Our server was extremely quick, attentive, and friendly, which made the visit even better. The food is a bit pricey, but that's to be expected in this area of the Big Island, and everything we ordered was done well. The atmosphere isn’t fancy—more of a relaxed sports-bar vibe with plenty of TVs to watch the games—but overall it was a solid and enjoyable dining experience. Would definitely return!

First of all was there for Sunday NFL games. They got the ticket and I spent most of the morning there. Food was yummy but mostly got breakfast items. Avo toast was decent but bread got too soft for my liking. Wife's egg plate was on point. Outside of the food, the wait staff was courteous and didn't pester me about ordering while watching the entire game. That's important. They were good people at A-Bay. BTW side of bacon was SO good!

The vibe was good. The service was better than expected. The tables were unstable and the clams were not fresh but overall a good dinner. We were treated very rude at Fosters and we were welcomed at A Bays. The Live music was fantastic

Breakfast was absolutely top-tier and among the best I've ever had. Probably the only complaint was the automatic gratuity for 6 adults and a child. Allow me to tip on my own... otherwise on point!

This is one of the popular spots in the area because it’s one of the only restaurants in the area. The poke was absolutely delicious but I felt that it needs two more wonton chips! The chips were perfect with the poke but just not enough. The shrimp egg rolls were crazy good!! Highly recommend those! The mustard sauce could be removed from the plate and I wouldn’t be mad though. Didn’t pair well with the rolls in my opinion but to each their own. The Korean bbq mixed plate was decent. The fried Korean chicken it came with was TERRIBLE!!!! It was fried skin basically but was supposedly chicken thigh. There was no thigh to be found. It was just a sodium packed fried piece of skin. The beef alongside it was good though. The desserts were both super rich and mouth watering leaving me wanting more!! The cheesecake had a nice thick crumbly crust and the sauce was paired very well with it. Lots of flavor! The lava cake and ice cream were similar to any lava cake at most restaurants but good nonetheless.

Nice place away from resort food prices. I had avocado toast with egg and my partner had corn beef hash with egg. I also enjoyed a mimosa. Breakfast was close to $80 including tip. Service was good, we sat outside. The restaurant is included in a very nice shopping area.

It is located in the King’s shop. So it was convenient for us. They have happy hour menu. We got a Mai Tai from it which is strong and delicious. You can find better one on the island. We also ordered a signature seafood cake. Was amazing. We also ordered a mixed plate and a poke bowl. I recommend the mix plate. The short rib was amazing. Poke bowl wasn’t good. We also ordered a Mango Press. It was good

We were staying at the resort across the street from A-Bay’s, so decided to stop by on a whim for breakfast. As we were in Hawaii, we all wanted to try the Loco Moco to see what the rave was about. It was a little disappointing to be honest, as it was a patty on a bed of rice with eggs served over easy. The gravy lacked depth, and the entire dish wasn’t too memorable. The service was excellent, and the vibe was casual.

Nothing super special but quick and attentive service. Had the crab cake and it was pretty standard a little bit drier than Tommy Bahamas. Had the Manila clams white sauce and it was 4 stars for me. Got the 1/2lb cheeseburger and my kiddo ate it up so I think that was a hit! Worth a try.

N

We had sweet bread French toast and avocado toast Bennie with a side of egg for breakfast. The French toast was amazing and the orange blossom cream cheese on the top added a different kick to eat. To top it off, we had lava cake for dessert and it was good. The cake was a bit hard and didn’t have flowing lava. The server was very kind and took in all the requests for our order.

Nice outdoor atmosphere and quiet, the people were pleasant and there wasn't long wait to place an order. If your not pressed for time its probably a good idea place an oder to go, just my first time experience so the wait times would be less than the 30-40 minutes for my order. Other than this its a nice and cozy place to eat breakfast.

6/14/21 Thought I'd add a little more detail. Convenient place to checkout in the Waikoloa Village area, directly across the Marriott Waikoloa. Was a great find on my part. Good food, reasonable prices to hit up most every day during my stay. Casey / bartender and Lulu?/ waitress (Short Asian girl, that's what I was told her name was. Sorry if I got it wrong), were always friendly, consistent, and helpful. They recommended the Lechon pupu, which was unique and on the money. Thanks, Lulu. The Loco Moco was the bomb. Thanks, Casey. Also tried the Philly Cheesesteak and threw two over easy eggs on it - my personal invention. Kalbi / Chix Combo looked good. Try it, you'll love it. The desserts were pretty good, too.. They have a plethora of beers on tap, entertainment, karaoke twice a week, clean, dual restrooms, and open later than most places. We will definitely be back again to also try their breakfast menu. Great job! 🙂🤙✌ 7/17/21 Mahalo Casey / Bartender. I'm still rocking it! 7/2721 Walking in just after lunch, bartender Jessica greeted me with a great smile and greeting. Intrigued, I asked her a few questions. She kept me filled and happy. She recommended the fish tacos and homemade shells, and I'm not a big cooked fish guy. Was ono - literally! Easily, Jessica is one of the best resources they have. We keep coming back! FYI - Menu ever changes due to availability of products on islands. Not their fault, so just go with the flow peeps! 🤙✌ 11/05/21 Friendly, casual, good service, as usual. I was back in town and had to stop by for the coldest beer on the Big Rock! Darcy / bartender rocks! 11/07/21 The manager, J.R.?, Sunday morning, and every time I've seen him there, he rocks it! Keeps the kitchen and the floor going despite daily hurdles with staff and/or guests, and has a pleasant demeanor while doing it. Valuable asset to A's. Pardon me if I got his name wrong. 2/01/21 I'm still kicking it! Crabcakes were fast and ono! 5/10/22 Still my consistent Go To on this coast! Beer and Calamari for HH. Bring it, baby! Kat is still Kool as the main BT! 😉🤙✌️ 8/2022 Consistent go-to. Had a burger this time. 🤙✌️ 11/2022 Nice to see they're still persevering. It's still a go-to place! 🤙✌️ 5/2023 It's been a little bit. Things keep changing, which is a good thing in today's world of restaurants. Means they're constantly adapting. It's a good and healthy sign. I hear they're opening up yet another location in Waikoloa Village called Mauka Bar and Grill. Can't wait to try it when they open. Way to go! 😉🤙✌️ 6/2023 Sadly, it appears they're falling victim to the labor shortage. I say this noticing they have enough staff but lack of training in simple customer service. My most recent visit, I waited for a good 5 minutes while two bartenders and a manager seated at the counter never budged. The restaurant was dead, two tables, and 7 people at the bar, including the manager. I'm assuming he's a manager as he got up from his seat at the bar and punched in to the POS system. I can appreciate workers shooting the breeze, but as a food and beverage hospitality worker, if I want to indulge, I want to indulge. This had been the third time where service was lacking, and former faces seemed to be gone. Times change, understandable, but so has service and my enjoyment. Will try next door ($3 off all items for Happy Hour) next time I'm in town. The guy next to me ordered a hamburger with cheese. I noticed the cheese just slapped on and not melted. This was a sad look and doesn't justify the cost. 4/2024 They've got a new bar manager and the same good chef. It's still a go-to place, especially for Happy Hour. Great specials, friendly service, ono food. 😉✌️

05/05/2025 (Mon) We had dinner at A-Bay Island Grill, a restaurant located inside Kings’ Shops at the Waikoloa Beach Resort. We ordered #7 Longboard ($5), #13 Overboard IPA ($5), #17 Kua Bay ($3), A-Bay's Mai Tai ($10), Caesar Salad ($14), Korean Mix Plate ($32), and Loco Moco ($22+ extra gravy $2). The location is popular with tourists and had a decent atmosphere. Despite the crowd, the outdoor seating area had plenty of space between tables, allowing us to enjoy our meal without feeling cramped. The Caesar salad was tasty, but the Korean meat on the mixed plate lacked depth in flavor. The Loco Moco was just okay — not bad, but nothing to rave about either. While the menu wasn't particularly extensive, we happened to be there right at the transition between lunch and dinner, during happy hour, so we had a good range of options. One downside was that our outdoor table was near a walkway where someone passed by smoking, and the smell occasionally drifted over. Although nothing about the food or ambiance stood out as exceptional, A-Bay Island Grill still provided a laid-back setting for a pleasant evening meal.😊✨

We came late at night, like 11pm, because A-Bay's was the only place in the Waikoloa resort area still open. The food is alright, not great (the resorts nearby generally have better food on-site). That being said, A-Bay's is the only place in the area open super late, so if you're a night owl it may be your only option :) They have a sort of club/bar scene going late at night with loud music, and it attracts a decently large crowd (again probably by virtue of being the only place open), so if you want a peaceful atmosphere to have a drink or grab a late bite, this is not it. That being said, maybe that club atmosphere is what you're looking for :) Their late night menu is not very extensive. All the food was "alright" but barely not good enough to call "great". Table service was good but I would not call it fast.

My fish sandwich was good. But my beer was warm and the dish “loco moco” hamburger patties with rice and gravy is absolutely nasty hahah don’t order that. But honestly, the vibes are great, and the music was really good too. I’d go back, but next time I’ll probably try the chicken wings or something.

Decided to try this restaurant in Kings Center. It took about 5 minutes to be seated. The restaurant was at 90% capacity. We waited another 10 minutes to have a server come to our table and take our drinks and food orders. Another 10 minutes elapsed before drinks were brought to our table. Almost another 10 minutes before our food was delivered. I ordered ribeye, mashed potatoes and mushrooms. The steak was cooked perfectly but the ribeye was unusually tough with gristle. The mashed potatoes and gravy were unremarkable. The other dish at the table was Ono fish and mashed potatoes with gravy and spinach. The spinach was the best part of this meal. The fish was lacking in taste but was nicely breaded. The mashed potatoes and gravy were unremarkable. Our table badly needed refinishing as it was peeling.

This was the first place we ate at when we got in from the airport. The servers were not helpful or friendly about greeting new guests, but our waiter was good. He was informative and friendly, but he messed up our order and forgot something things we asked for. We ordered the Korean mix plate, pork belly and the kids burger on rice (loco moco type). We also had a couple of cocktails 🍸 which were really good. We got in late a few nights later and this was the only place open after 9pm in the area. However, they stop serving food during happy hour (between dinner and 'late night'). There's a bouncer and karaoke, so even if you can wait until the late night menu is available at 10p, getting your take out order is a hassle. We opted to eat PBJ back in our room. Not exactly family friendly, but great for drinks out.

Came here for breakfast. Quick service. Food was solid breakfast cuisine — eggs, sausage, pancakes. They charged $2.00 for sourdough bread making an egg breakfast cost ~$27.00 which seems a bit steep. The bathrooms smelled horrendous so beware if sitting there as the plumbing did not appear to function well.

We came here on a normal Saturday wanting a nice lunch in the village. The ambiance was nice enough; flowers, lush greenery, a good outdoor seating patio and limited indoor space. The lady at the reception was lovely and got us seated comfortably, but the service after that was abysmal. We waited what must have been 15 minutes for water, and after ordering, our food took 55 minutes to arrive. We had to get up several times and request that it come a bit faster because our young child was getting agitated. We ordered chicken tenders and fries off of the kids menu, the Poke bowl, Furikake chicken bowl, and fish tacos. The kids meal was decent, the Poke bowl was on the smaller end but tasted good, and the fish tacos were tasty but definitely not worth the $28 price tag. Our main issue was with the Furikake chicken. How do I describe this? It can best be described as fried chicken skin with very little meat, all of this skin being drenched in this awful sweet sauce. I do not know if this is how the dish is traditionally prepared, but taste-wise it was inedible. The wait time combined with the value you really don't get for your money made this place nothing special.

Marc Tofsted

A-Bay's is one of many restaurants in the Kings markets near the Hilton Waikoloa village. I got the Korean BBQ plate and the chicken was greasy and overcooked the beef was basically jerky. The fish taco tortillas were undercooked and a little gross. Service took a while to place our order and we were then told one of the items on the menu after we ordered it was out. Once we replaced that item in our order everything came out at once appetizers and meals.

h
harold Flokstra

The food quality isn’t great. We had rib eye and the catch of the day. The fish was ok. Best part of the experience was the live music. Smoked old fashioned cocktail wasn’t worth buying. We mentioned the poor quality to our server. I hope this place improves. It’s necessary.

J
Jeremy White

After being seated It took about 15 minutes before someone came by to ask what we wanted to order. Then it took an hour for us to receive our food. And the food wasn't all that great. We were surprised that there was no apology from the manager, no offer to comp something from the meal, nothing. So glad we went there for dinner on my birthday.

My group of 4 arrived around noon on a Sunday. Plenty of open seats inside and out. Mai Tai was good, nothing more than you could make at home. We had 2 orders of Tacos and 2 orders of fresh catch sandwich. The food tasted really good, I loved the Ono Sandwich. But, it took more than an hour to get our food. Server was pleasant and apologized every time we asked about our food. Don’t go if you don’t have lots of patience and time to spend. Like 2 hours!!!

We went twice for breakfast while in Hawaii. The food was amazing! On the first day, the service was just as good! On the second day, the service was terrible! Azure was our server on the second visit. She was very rude! If you visit, ask for anybody other than her if you want to have a positive visit. And I still don’t understand where it came from. There was another family waiting to be seated who witnessed her stupidity and even asked me what was wrong with her. I don’t know! She hovered over me while I was paying with the portable device. (I thought that was weird. Maybe she thought I wouldn’t tip?) As soon as I submitted a tip of about $20 or so on a $95 bill, she snatched the device from me and stormed off. I asked her if she was okay, and she just waved her hands. Now that—that made me upset This has never happened to me before so I was quite confused. I asked the manager for a refund so I can take the tip back and left her nothing! As someone with a history in serving, it felt weird to stiff someone, but she deserved it. Again—the good is amazing! But be careful with the service.

Filthy patio Every window in the restaurant looks like they had every elementary school come and touch the windows, greasy oily nasty we sat by the slider that goes outside little kid's hand prints all over. Staff could be cleaning windows while not busy , no structure of leadership. Floor inside could've been swept, I would of left and went to Foster's or tommy Bahama's but we were already seated. I got Furikake chicken plate , chicken was like jerky rice was luke warm not fresh, mac salad wasn't Cold, fish tacos ware 5 out of ten. Cheese burger was okay, with frys being the best. There was (3) of us Will not recommend or go back waste of money The waitress we had was really good there was one positive at least. PLEASE CLEAN YOUR WINDOWS.

The food is so bad here. Please Don’t come here. All the dishes we ordered were poorly seasoned, no salt or using the wrong sauce, not what they described in the menu. We felt we got scammed.

N

Had a pretty disappointing experience at Abays. We came here based on a recommendation, but it turned out to be a bad decision. We ordered two plates of pancakes, and this is how they arrived. The menu clearly states they come with caramelized banana and macadamia nut toppings, but ours had none of that. On top of that, the staff were neither friendly nor helpful. Overall, nothing about our visit made us want to return. I would not recommend this place.

Stopped in for an early dinner, after a reasonable wait sat in the bar area with two noisey drunks at the bar. Pleasent chatty waitress offered us menus and took drink orders. Drinks never arrived after a half hour so did not order and left. Not likely to ever want to go back .

R

Being that this is the ONLY restaurant/bar open past 9pm near our resort in Waikoloa Village, we opted to go for some cocktails. Overall they came promptly and were fine. We all ordered pretty basic drinks. When the bill came they charged our party of four for FIVE extra drinks! When questioned the server said very defensively "Why would I do that?" My husband said "I don't know...maybe higher tab for a higher tip?" Then asked to speak to their manager. We waited for 15 minutes and he never came. So my husband decided to leave no tip and just pay the tab so we could leave. As we were walking to the parking lot, a couple of them came out yelling about no tip and and told us not to come back. Oh don't worry.... we won't.
