We made reservations here for new years eve and loved our experience. You can be dressed up or casual and still feel right at home. There are 7-10 tables max inside but it never felt crowded. Our party of six was taken care of by I believe his name was Cruz, and gave us fantastic recommendations on food as well as refilled our champagne that we BYOB'd constantly. Everything was flavorful and cooked to perfection. My favorite appetizer was the foie gras, and my entree was the lamb. My fiancee ordered the surf and turf which was also heavenly. Over all I would say to prepare to spend at least $100 a person if you want the best meal possible, and make reservations In advance. There is plenty of parking outside, enjoy this historic spot!
Everything I read about Just Dinner is true. The ambiance is warm and cozy. The food is expertly prepared and the staff are helpful, knowledgeable and very friendly. They made us feel welcome. I had their famous Braised Short Ribs. Cooked to perfection and served in a port reduction sauce with mashed Potato and mixed vege. The portions are big, so I'm getting the enjoy this meal again for lunch today!! We started off with a cheese platter the selection was very tray and served with complimentary fruits and compots.
We had a wonderful experience at Just Dinner, with everything from the service to the appetizers to the entrees and desert being flawlessly executed. The Foie Gras was a unique preparation that was very impressive. The steaks were prepared perfectly and desert was impeccable. We thought to bring a nice port in addition to our other wines and it added a nice crown jewel to the evening.
Our party of ten was graciously accommodated by Heather, our server. We had a memorable meal and couldn't be happier with our experience.
Outstanding great little restaurant. Great for those who want to have a conversation while eating really good food. Make sure you make a reservation.
What an excellent little restaurant! The food was phenomenal and the vibes of the place are cozy and welcoming. We will definitely be returning!
Great Dinner.Service is exceptional. One of our favorite places for a quiet romantic dinner
Intimate. Warm. Delicious. Great menu. Good service. Will be sorry to see this neighborhood gem go.
Perfect place for a date with lady. Food is excellent, service is excellent ....and BYOB.
Best romantic meal you can have, byob is a major plus.
Wonderful experience, quiet and good food is hard to find. Available here until they close for good this year, 😥
BYOB place that only serves dinner. Great food, great service.
In this place did my dinner of wedding night and my husband and me was happy.
Had a incredible first date lol ditched the dude love the food
Probably the best pork chop I've ever had.
BYO-Wine. Best short ribs.
Intimate dining with a fantastic menu and friendly service.

Absolutely fantastic food and service
So sad to see it go, but excited by what is yet to come.
Best ever. Just treat yourself.
Tried and true comfort
Delicious food.
We've been going to Just Dinner for years now and it never disappoints! The staff is always always friendly and sweet and the food is amazing! They've had the crowd favorites like the short ribs and the crab cake on the menu forever and it is always a fantastic choice, but don't miss the seasonal items and ever changing daily menu. Still BYOB as well, so bring a bottle or two and be sure to make a reservation ahead of time. One of our favorites for sure!
Excellent food. Our party of 4 ordered fillet mignon. I ordered mine medium well and it was tender, juicy and flavorful. The others asked for medium rare and they were very happy with their steaks. Our server was attentive, polite and a wonderful representative of this dining establishment. Too bad they are closing their doors at the end of the year, 2018. Will have to find a new restaurant to satisfy our fillet appetite when we fly in from California.
I went here for my birthday this summer and the everything was very very good. I think I had the steak. It was the best steak I've had in Houston. It was cooked to perfection. I really enjoyed the quiet atmosphere with 3 of my closest friends and the BYOB was the cherry on top. I think the uncork fee was $8/bottle. Still a good deal.
Wow, people are crazy. I have lived in Italy and this has the best Italian food I have had in the states. It is comfortable, romantic, and you can bring your own wine. How much better does it get? The service is wonderful and the owner knew the regulars by name. Just try it already!!!
I LOVED my overall experience! The waiter was great, he explained very thoroughly for meals. Very fast service,.. I blink an eye and my ice tea was filled. The food was awesome, and it gives you a pretty big portion. Would come back again!
This place is perfect for a romantic dinner. We showed up right at our reservation time and they must have written down the wrong name or something because our reservation was not on the list, even though they had called earlier that day to confirm it. They made us wait for about 5 minutes while a table opened up and then everything was great. The food was amazing, the service was perfect and we stayed and talked for a while and they made sure to tell us not to hurry. I will definitely go back.
I been there a couple of times, once for date night and once with some of my girlfriends. Small menu with daily specials, they only use organic food. The restuarant is inside an old house in a residential neighborhood. everything we tried have always been good. It's BYOB so bring a bottle of wine. Cork fee is $12/bottle which isn't bad.
I am very impressed with this restaurant. I joined some friends there for a joint birthday celebration - although we did not tell the restaurant that. They were attentive and helpful - and the food was out of this world. My friend and I had filet and her husband took the duck. The atmosphere is intimate and relaxed and added to the dining experience. It was indeed a tremendous experience - and I like the BYOB option. I will certainly go back there and would recommend that you try it.
A very unique dining experience in the heart of Houston. Just Dinner is located in a house (and can be a bit tricky to find if you don't have navigation - hint: look for the small electric blue sign). It feels like you are having dinner in someone's dining room. Reservations are a must and can be a little tricky to get so make sure you book at least a week or 2 in advance. The menu was amazing with items like Braised Short Ribs, Parmesan risotto and jumbo crab cakes. The best part is that it's BYOB so you can bring whatever you like.
Simply amazing! Quite dining in an intimate setting. It’s rare to find a place to actually carry a conversation at a normal tone. The feel of the dining area is comfortable and inviting. The food, well... out of this world delicious! I plan on coming back very soon. A wonderful dining experience for sure!
Went for a romantic night, and it was perfect. Both of us got three courses, and each one tasted amazing. Appetizers: Crab cake-wonderful, and large; Sweet potato corn chowder- tasted like beef stew but was completely vegan. Main Course: Filet- very nice piece of meat and the sides paired very nicely; Duck with beets- the creativity of this dish is amazing, duck was cooked perfectly and the sides again paired very well. Desert: Warm Chocolate Cake with salted caramel ice cream- GET IT.; Mango tart with blueberry lavender gelato- this dish was wonderful and light and I loved the creativity.
Don't judge a book by its cover. At first we were like this is the place (dark small house). Had a small sign in yard with name of place. But when you get in and the staff welcomes you. You feel better and invited. The service was great and food was spectacular.
Quaint, cozy atmosphere with a hint of history for Houston's "most romantic BYOB." The friendly, impeccable staff serve gourmet meals while the fireplace glows and candles flicker. Hurry, reserve a table, this is not to be missed.
Our waiter was so friendly and the everything we ordered was fantastic. I can't wait to go back! Don't forget to bring your own bottle(s) of vino!!
What an incredible and fabulous spot for a romantic dinner as well as a great place to host an intimate surprise birthday party for my wife. Cruz is an incredible waiter and host who describes the menu in an enticing troubadour fashion.
LOVE this place. Quaint and comfy, the perfect place for a romantic dinner. The food is always delicious and you can bring your own bottle to enjoy.
Como siempre exelente todo
This is one of the best experiences my husband and I have ever had. Our server, Heather, was amazing! She described all the specials so well that you could actually picture the food that you were going to be served. But even with that detailed description the food exceeded by far our expectations!! So delicious and exquisite. We ordered the Pork three ways and the short ribs with a side of risotto. Since it was my birthday we ordered a pear pie that was delicious as well and they even decorated it with a chocolate "Happy birthday" on the plate. The ambiance is great, cozy, romantic lighting and quiet. Such a shame that it will be closing by the end of the year. Must go before they close! Don't miss out on this hidden gem.
Very Good food served here. It's BYOB so the wine can be great. We go often. Not a lot of choice though.
Celebrated a birthday there, long cozy table in the back all to ourselves. Food was great, comfortable atmosphere and attentive service.
Food was absolutely fantastic, just too a long time to come out cos it was an usually busy Monday. Overall, it was great.
Ok spot for delicious american food. I can say this place does it for me. The staff was helpful and kind. This place has an awesome atmosphere.
this place is so calming and they try to accommodate your wishes.the wait staff is so attentive and knowledgeable about the menu!
My wife and I went to this place last weekend on her birthday and she loved it. Everybody has different taste so therefore the BYOB option is just perfect. Richard was our waiter and he was very attentive didn't matter how many customers he had coming in he never forgave nobody's refills or food. Richard thanks for this experience I hope Just dinner is treating you right and we will definitely go there again sometime. A very Spontaneous nice place to take somebody on a date.
Just Dinner is a warm and cozy vibe. It's a cute little house converted to a restaurant. I was impressed by the bar tenders in that they were quick and attentive during service, and took their time explaining the specials and answering questions on the menu. The food itself is tasty and feels pretty healthy to boot. It's a fun touch to be able to bring your own wine and get served. A good spot for a date or nice meal out w family. I'd recommend calling ahead for a reservation
While the chef's talents were on full display much to our satisfaction, and the server was friendly and knowledgeable, we were uncomfortable from the moment we were seated, due the A/C window unit's inability to cool the room. We soon discovered we were seated directly next to the kitchen, separated only by a curtain. The only way we will return is to make certain we're seated in a room furthest from the kitchen with adequate ventilation. The distraction took away from what could have been a fantastic dining experience!
Came here for birthday dinner looking for a place that is quiet enough for a group to have a conversation. Definitely fit the bill there! Overall good place, but I am cheap and usually hope for life changing experience when food is this expensive. I'll probably try somewhere else next time there's a special occasion. BYOB is great, tables are funky and decorated with magazine pages. All food was delicious, BUT, our waiter did that obnoxious thing where he guilts you into ordering more, and then we ended up with more food than we could eat - kinda rude: Waiter: "are we having appetizers?" Us: "no thanks, we are looking forward to the main event." ....(later we change our mind) Us: "actually, they look so delicious we'd like to try two appies." Waiter: (makes disapproving face) "oh, well that definitely won't be enough, it's only this big" (gestures minuscule oval with hands). "You need at least 4 appetizers. Us: "ummm...well, okay I guess we'll take your recommendation" Food comes - waiter is liar totally guilted us into his upsell scheme (I know it's his job, I was a waiter, but no need to be SO over the top).
We had a belated valentines dinner here. It was a nice intimate setting, cozy and romantic. Service was really great. Food was average though, my husband had lamb shank which was ok, just not a huge amount of flavor. I had the citrus chicken, the chicken was really tough and dry. The sauce was very over powering. Not a great meal.
Great food, cozy ambiance, mediocre service, and 46 minutes from ordering to receiving entree!!! I really wanted to love this place and, without the service and waiting issues, I would have. I should add that our reservation was at 8:45PM, so I’m sure everyone working was worn out. Based on the other reviews, I suspect the service is normally much better than my wife and I experienced.
Eating here was the worst service experience I have ever received. The place is small and quaint, with only 7-8 tables. It is a very cozy setting. However, with such a small setting, I expected service to be excellent, and it was everything but. With 2 waiters to cover only 8 tables, I found myself wondering where they were more often than not and waiting for someone to talk to ask about our order and for water. The worst part of the service was simply how slow it was - it took them 10 minutes to come pour us water and give us menus (not even take orders - just hand us menus). 2 of our party ordered salads to start. 10 minutes later, we recieved them, but one was made with something explicitly requested to not be on the salad. After another wait, the waiter immediately exchanged the salad. That was by far the quickest service we got all night. Meanwhile, the rest of us were waiting on our main entrees, which is normal. However, 30 minutes pass, and we still have no food - not even bread, while all around us people are getting served and every table has bread. We ask the waiter to check on our food for us, because it's been a really long time already. He comes back to us 5 minutes later, saying it will be just a few more minutes. Close to 10 minutes pass and we still haven't received our food. When we finally receive our food, a fish someone had ordered was cooked well done, despite specifically asking for rare. We finally talk to the waiter about how unsatisfactory the evening has been, and he goes to get his manager to talk to us. Well, the manager didn't seem too impressed with how unhappy we were with the service that evening. He asked how everything was, and when we answered, honestly, not very good, he simply responded with "Ok." We explained how it took over an hour for most of us to receive our order, how we never got any bread until all our food arrived, and how 2 orders were incorrect. His response: "So it's just those things?" His nonchalant answer rubbed us all the wrong way, but he followed it up with "I'll go look over your check and talk to the kitchen to see what we can do." What he did was absolutely nothing to compensate us for our terrible dinner. Not a complimentary dessert, not a discount, not even a verbal apology for anything. He literally did nothing but silently hand us our check (appropriately, after another 5 minute wait). Despite the food being very good, I will never go back to this place again after being treated so poorly. I will never recommend it to anyone.
Atmosphere is intimate and amazing but the food was pricy and absolutely not worth it! The spaghetti and meat balls was not spricy (as mentioned), did not include prosciutto or bacon (as mentioned). The waiter talked this dish up so i went with it and it was a major let down....especially for $25 bucks.
This place is permanently closed. Check their website.
Horrible. After coming here for many years to celebrate anniversaries, birthdays, Valentine's day etc... this was the end. Showed up and restaurant was very warm. AC had gone out and although they said they were contacting everyone, I got no notice. This was a special occasion, and not so much as an apology for the troubles. They are closing at the end of the year and as sad as I was about that, I now realize it's for the best.
