House on the River is an absolute gem and easily one of the most beautiful dining experiences in Miami. From the moment we arrived, the riverside atmosphere set the tone relaxed, elegant, and effortlessly chic. Our server, Kristi, truly made the experience exceptional. She was warm, attentive, and knowledgeable without ever being intrusive. You can tell when someone genuinely loves what they do, and it shows her service elevated the entire meal. The food was outstanding. The egg croissant was rich, perfectly cooked, and indulgent in the best way, while the calamari was light, crispy, and expertly seasoned absolutely addictive. Every bite felt thoughtfully prepared. The cocktails were just as impressive. The French 75 was crisp, balanced, and refreshing, and the espresso martini was smooth, bold, and beautifully crafted easily one of the best I’ve had. Between the stunning river views, incredible food and drinks, and top-tier service from Kristi, this place delivers on every level. If you’re looking for an unforgettable brunch or dining experience in Miami, House on the River is a must.

I celebrated my birthday lunch at The House on the River, and it was truly an amazing experience from start to finish. My best friend treated me, and everything exceeded my expectations. The watermelon mule cocktail was incredibly refreshing with just the right balance of alcohol not too strong, not too light. My shrimp salad was a perfect blend of fresh veggies and dressing, full of flavor and absolutely delicious. And to top it off, the chocolate mousse was the perfect sweet ending. We also had the chance to tour the house, and every room was beautifully decorated with so much charm. The view of the river was peaceful and stunning, adding to the overall ambiance. A special shoutout to our server (who was also the bartender), I believe her name was Kathy she was friendly, welcoming, and made excellent recommendations from the menu that truly elevated our experience. I’ll definitely be going back!

We celebrated our company's Christmas dinner at The House On The River and it was a great choice. Everything was perfect from start to finish. The open bar was great as we got some drinks as we mingled with colleagues and catch up with others we didn't don't see as often. This was like a family style when they brought out the appetizers and the entrées and the desserts where everybody can grab and serve themselves, which was a great option because everybody was able to serve themselves how much they wanted. We had the outside seating and it was truly magical how beautiful they decorated the tables. The waterfront seating was perfect since the weather was so nice. The atmosphere is very relaxed very tranquil. The service was amazing. Everybody was so professional and courteous, and attended to everyone. Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant for company, corporate events or just a simple dinner with friends, family, or on a date.

My wife and I just finished our third visit to The House on The River, and once again, they managed to exceed every expectation. We’ve had great meals here before, but this experience was truly special. We were seated in the Porch Swing Room, which to our absolute delight, turned out to be a private room just for the two of us. It created such an intimate and unique atmosphere for our dinner. The hospitality here is consistently top-notch. The entire staff is incredible, but a huge shout-out goes to our server, Dylan, who provided flawless service throughout the night. To top off a perfect evening, the manager (Scott, if I recall correctly) took the time to give us a personal tour of the historic house. It was a thoughtful gesture that we very much appreciated. If you are looking for a memorable night out with "above and beyond" service, this is the place. We’re already looking forward to visit number four!

The House on the River offers a pleasant setting with a calm waterfront atmosphere and friendly service. We tried several dishes. The shrimp salad was fresh, well-seasoned, and came with crisp vegetables. The tortellini dish was rich and flavorful with a good mix of vegetables. The mussels were cooked properly and served in a tasty broth with toasted bread. Overall, the food was solid, the view is a clear highlight, and the staff was attentive. A good spot for a relaxed meal by the water.

This is an amazing restaurant/venue. We hosted my daughter’s bridal shower here and it was absolutely perfect. I worked with Neil to set the menu and drinks, and talk about decor - he was so helpful and supportive. The staff was somehow always there when we wanted anything, but always out of the way. The food was delicious! The atmosphere was incredible - we had a private space by the water that had a gorgeous view, was well shaded and cool, and allowed us to enjoy each others company. I could not be happier, and highly recommend!

The House on The River, Brunch Boards, Cocktails & Rudy When you only have 1 day in Fort Lauderdale to Brunch, The House on The River is where it’s at. Our server Rudy was fabulous. The Bartender crafted perhaps one of the best alcohol forward “smoked” Old Fashioned I’ve ever had. The Brunch Board was where it was at on this day. It was $30 per person & totally worth it. There was plenty of food for 2. It is a good way to go really to not devote your Brunch to one main entree. In the Fort Lauderdale climate even in February dining outside was great & suggested. The grounds & inside are nicely landscaped & decorated. This is a restored historic building in a nice scenic location sitting on the New River. If you’re interested in events, bridal showers, et al, they’ve got you covered. On this day, a bridal shower took place & everyone was happy. The Brunch Boards were perfect for such a large group. If you have the pleasure to dine outside, make sure you take a stroll through the inside & check out the Pastry Shop. I believe this set up is a business within the business called the La Rivere Bakery. All the selections were handmade by this lovely lady who was rightfully proud of her creations & very thoughtful in her presentation & display of the same. I only made it through a small portion of the property. There’s a lot more to discover. The parking situation for the businesses around this location is a bit of a challenge so give yourself plenty of time.

House on the River was an amazing experience from start to finish. The service truly stood out—Sam went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect, friendly, attentive, and welcoming the entire time. The food was just as impressive, especially the calamari, which was cooked perfectly and packed with flavor—easily some of the best I’ve had. Between the outstanding service and the great food, this place is definitely worth coming back to.

The place was really beautiful, with excellent service and delicious food. Everything was perfect from start to finish. The Eggs Benedict were perfectly made, the crème brûlée was absolutely amazing, and the lemon pie was just as delicious. The drinks were great too, overall, a wonderful experience that I’d definitely recommend!

I made a reservation to.come here tonight and try it out. The hostess was very friendly and accommodating. She took us to our seats and Christina waited on us. What a treat she is! Very knowledgeable about the menu, great at picking out recommendations, suggestively sold the Brussels sprouts - which were delicious. They is just the right amount of the honey avocado and balsamic not to be overpowering and we're awesome! My date had the Tropical Chicken Milanese and I had the Pappardelle Bolognese & Burrata and wow! Even my date was like, "that's really good." We also had a black & white martini - soon good. Christina recommended some desserts and had to try the carrot cake. Whoa! THAT'S how a carrot cake should me made. Butter cream icing wasn't overly sweet, flavors were outstanding. Overall, one absolutely amazing experience from start to finish. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! And ask for Christina - you won't be disappointed!

Charming and historic venue. Megan welcomed us on a rainy Thanksgiving day. Daniela gave us Great Service. Loved the historic charm and riverside setting. Daniela made our visit memorable with fun, attentive service. Dinner was excellent— The Thanksgiving buffet was amazing. The steak, salmon and turkey were standout dishes. The selection and freshness of everything was just a delight. The mussels, shrimp, the salads, the sides, the desserts. We enjoyed everything. Parking can be tough with no valet. Still, a 5-star experience! We had such a great time. I forgot to take pictures of the buffet and all the food. Suffice it to say they looked delicious and were delicious. kudos to the whole team.🎉🍽️🤩

This place is so pretty! And the service and attention were 10/10 from the moment I stepped in. We had a great time! Unfortunately, it was too cold to sit outside but we still had a table with a very nice view. Definitely will be back to sit in the patio!

Had a great experience at The House on the River! The setting is just fantastic—right on the waterfront in downtown Fort Lauderdale, with a stylish, relaxed “Florida Riviera” atmosphere that instantly transports you. I ordered the steak and eggs along with an espresso martini—(server recommendations)both were delicious and just what I was craving. Our server, Jolie, made it even better: she was attentive, friendly, and I loved her fall-themed earrings (such a fun seasonal touch!). Highly recommend for a meal with both great food and a lovely location. Glad I found on my visit.

I love the creative menu for dinner dining, but for this review I’m specifically talking about their event brunch. I hosted a bridal shower with 15 guests on the outside terrace. It was DIVINE! My guests were in awe of the beautiful way they decorate for an outdoor gathering! Of course it’s an added bonus that it is sitting along the New River. And the food? Well, my friend who owns her own restaurant asked for the salad dressing “to go” ! She wanted to try to deconstruct and make it for her family! The amazing salad was just the beginning…on to delicious short rib sliders, chicken(some of the best fried chicken I’ve ever had) & waffles, pancakes, quesadillas, fruit, ham & cheese croissants! If you want an event that you’ll love and also impress your guests, this is the place!

If you are looking for an exquisite brunch experience, the Cafe at the House of the River is your spot. The pastries are absolutely to die for, especially the Pistachio Filled Croissant. Everything here is made in-house and the quality is of the highest order. The Smoked Salmon Omelet is big enough to share between two people and was quite delicious. I cannot recommend this place enough. Bravo to the staff.

The House on the River is unforgettable! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, with beautiful rooms decorated with antiques. The service was attentive without ever being overbearing. Dinner was ridiculously good—the NY steak was cooked to perfection, tender and flavorful, while the pasta purse was unique, delicate, and absolutely delicious. We enjoyed a magical evening celebrating my mom’s birthday. Although we were not seated where I anticipated (it was reserved) we were seated outside in another area by the water just as nice. Located "on the river" in Ft Lauderdale, this house is expansive and has a lot of different dining options at any given time. Indoor and outdoor seating, bar area in what looks like an old greenhouse, swing seating upstairs overlooking the river, and Saturdays and Sundays now have part of their outdoor space devoted to a brunch collab with Veuve Clicquot. It is strongly suggested to make reservations for the Veuve brunch and swing seats (OpenTable). This Veuve collaboration will be there till March or April they said. We arrived and originally checked in at the main stand but were shortly directed over to the Veuve brunch area with its own check in. The area was cute, bright and flowery, and definitely social media posting worthy. Our server, I can't remember his name, was helpful with suggestions and around when needed. We started with Aperol Spritz's which were light and refreshing and a perfect vibe and color for the decor. From there, we shared the Shrimp Green Goddess salad. This was fresh, crisp, and a decent size with 3 large shrimp (for the price, they probably could have included 1 or 2 more shrimp). After that we had the surf and turf eggs Benedict which said braised short rib and poached lobster. I thought they would be together on each half but it was actually one half short rib and one half lobster. I am a sucker for both of these items, but in this case, the short rib was hands down the better of the two. We were verbally given the dessert options and despite being full, were convinced to give the key lime pie a try. Unfortunately the key lime pie ended up being out. Carrot cake ended up suddenly being an option, so we opted for that. It was tasty and not overly sweet which I liked.

Rich is the greatest waiter on the face of the planet Earth. Not only is he polite, professional, and knowledgeable with a great sense of humor. He is also an absolute asset to this organization. In my time in South Florida he is one of the most professional friend of the house encounters I’ve had in many years. Rich should be training all of the staff and his enthusiasm for the company is failed by all patrons or at at least at my table it was. I have come here for brunch and the ambience and food and pricing is all remarkable. I would say that is better than Louie Bossi. 10/10 recommend

The place was absolutely amazing, and the food and drinks were outstanding — all thanks to Daniela Bucher, Event Manager, and her wonderful staff. The food was great, but the service was absolutely amazing! Jorge did a wonderful job taking care of us, and when we asked for a tour of the house, he introduced us to Liz. Wow! She was incredibly knowledgeable about the history and added fascinating “ghost” stories—both past and present. Her storytelling enthusiasm is truly a gift! Honestly, she should charge for her tours. This experience has been the highlight of our entire trip!

This place is just magical. The ambience is amazing and the service was impeccable. I was made to feel at home. When i asked for grilled chicken for my dog, it came minced and ground for him! Came here for the first time yesterday and I already can’t wait to go back! If it wasn’t so hot, we would have loved to sit outside but inside was a total vibe in itself! There was 8 of us, so we got seated upstairs in one of their dining rooms. We ordered bottomless mimosas and brunch boards. All the food was delicious and the service was on point! Looking forward to coming back for dinner one time.

Ask for Rudy - You Won't Regret It! ★★★★★ Fantastic brunch at House on the River! The food was amazing and the location is beautiful, but the real star of the show was our server, Rudy. This guy is a legend! He was incredibly attentive, had a great sense of humor, and gave us perfect recommendations. He genuinely seemed to love his job and it showed in every interaction. Service like his is rare and makes all the difference. We were so impressed we returned the next day because of him!!! We'll be back, and we'll definitely be asking for his section!

This is a perfect place for any occasion. I was looking for a restaurant for my husbands birthday party that can seat 8 people and be able to hear conversation. Most places are too loud and lacking privacy. This restaurant has many different areas for private dining, each room has a romantic vibe. Food was perfect, delicious and good portion size. A few of us had Rainbow Trout I had to take some of it home it was pretty large portion. My husband had 12 oz NY strip - he could not stop talking about the sauce and he is a great cook. He was amazed by how delicious and perfect his steak came out. Best part was the service. I do not remember the guys name but he was so awesome. Thank you so much for hosting us and making it amazing experience.

OMG!! High Tea on a beautiful day by the river. Simply can't say enough about this stunning 1901 2-story home with original FL pine ceilings, wood floors, and creaking stairs. Besides the atmosphere, the food was excellent and gorgeously presented with mis-matching tea cups, tea pots, flowers. The staff was extremely attentive, informative, professional but didn't smother or hurry diners. A true treat!! A very special gem on the river!

Absolutely the best food and service we’ve had in a long time! One of the staff members kindly gave us a tour of the house — I wish I had gotten her name. She was incredibly passionate about the history of the place, and it truly added something special to our visit. And the cheesecake? Hands down the best I’ve ever had. What a night! We were a party of 30 and I can’t rave enough about the food ( family style: salad, appetiser, main meal salmon🩷 short ribs- tender yummy- chicken- oh so good and finally crème brule). However, it wasn’t just the food that was delicious but the service was beyond attentive and the atmosphere blew us away. We sat outside under the moonlight- felt like we were in never never land. Can’t wait to go back.

This is our third holiday dinner with House on the River. The food was outstanding. Our service was absolutely terrible. I have been here for Brunch. I have been here for the bakery and it's always been a lovely experience. Our waiter that waited on us at table 44 was beyond horrible. He lied and told us that the oysters that were being served were "large" and now only were being limited to one rather than two a person. It was a fixed menu and after 45 minutes were still waiting on our appetizers. I mentioned it to our waiter, "Samuel," tall red head, nothing was done. We were still waiting on food. I spoke with the manager Jody downstairs. She had no knowledge of different sizes of oysters and made note of the beyond terrible service. I have dined many times at many restaurants in the US and Samuel is by far the worst waiter I have found coast to coast in an out of the country. He lied and told us our bill was COMPED then when the bill came paid only for two glasses of wine. I'm not looking for a free meal. I was looking to continue with our holiday tradition started at House on the River last year with fantastic food and a great dining experience. If not, for Jody the manager the night would have been a complete bust. She is pleasant and an asset to the company. Everyone can have a bad night but our waiter was beyond bad. He is a liar. You can't come back from a severe character flaw. It's worth mentioning that while I was downstairs waiting to leave Samuel was upstairs telling my party that I did not want to pay. UNBELIEVABLE!!

Jorge provided absolutely outstanding service! He was attentive, professional, and genuinely kind throughout our entire dining experience. He made sure everything was perfect without being overbearing and had such a positive attitude. You can tell he truly cares about his guests. We’ll definitely be back because of him!

Hosted a bridal shower for my best friend. We had a private room and we’re able to decorate. The service was impecable. We had a server to ourselves and she was incredible!! Attentive, kind, and helpful. She took great pictures of us and kept the bottomless mimosas coming. Vicky (Victoria) provided 5 star services, knowledgeable of the menu - just fantastic all around. Thank you Vicky!! We had the best time!

I went here yesterday for me and my gf anniversary and the food was amazing we got the angry shimp pasta and the 8oz filet The stake was one of the best stakes I’ve ever had and the pasta was amazing. The best part was our server Jolie she was amazing definitely will be back here

Beautiful location by the water. Fascinating historical building with many rooms, art pieces and its open for exploring! Brunch was fantastic! big tray of food with all the options included for a bit over $20 per person (minimum of 2 people required for this branch food option). We had unlimited mimosas too and our server kept them coming ;) Great service, everyone is friendly and attentive. Definitely a spot for Sunday brunch! We sat outside by the water and i made a reservation for us before coming but they have plenty of room indoor and outdoor to accommodate people so dont think reservation is necessary

What a hidden gem! Great for group dinners, intimate, special occasions. Lived here most of my life and never visited. The atmosphere and ambiance is amazing. An antique mansion converted to a restaurant with each room unique. You feel like you are eating in a southern mansion. Service is excellent. Customer friendly and personable. The food is excellent. Very limited choices so you can expect freshness. Wife had salmon and I had linguine and clams. Fresh and well seasoned. Brusselsprouts for appetizers. Great flavor.

What a wonderful evening! After a last minute cancellation by another venue, House on the River was able to take our party reservation and turn out an outstanding evening for 40 that went above and beyond! The venue was gorgeous, Daniela made everyone feel so welcomed and the attention to detail was superb. Cant wait to have more events and evenings at this gem on the river.

This stunning location in the best of Fort Lauderdale is suitable for your special occasion, date night or a gathering of good friends. Cocktails and a small selection of wines and beers, a curated list of small plates, starters, grilled entrees and mains provide enough choice for everyone. (We wished for some Old World wine selections). Our reset was honored with an outstanding outdoor table. Our attentive and congenial server, Rudy, was on point. He was only limited by busy bartenders and kitchen management. Our drinks and food were widely well received. Reservations are highly recommended. This area appears very popular, you may want to use Uber and save yourself the headache of parking.

This is our favorite place to eat. Anytime we have company in town, we bring them here. Great place for any type of shower or event. The building and different rooms are so much fun. Highly recommend the "swing room", it's so cute. It's a private room covered in flowers and you sit on swings also overlooking the Riverwalk. Would also recommend for Thanksgiving if you dont want to cook. It's fabulous!

The evening ambiance at this restaurant is truly exceptional. A charming historic house right by the river, offering a cozy yet intimate setting. Even though they were fully booked, it still felt private and personal. Our server was amazing—she took the time to explain each dish with so much detail. As for the food—everything was perfection. We started with Brussels sprouts and octopus, then moved on to the seafood nest and Pear Pasta Purse… absolutely delicious. And the carrot cake for dessert? Hands down the best cake I’ve ever had. Every dish was cooked to perfection. Highly recommend this place for any occasion. I’ll definitely be back

Rare gem!! Had date night with my husband and we were absolutely impressed! The food was authentic and a fine dining experience. The ambience was classy and romantic with a historical feel; river view outdoor seating . There were many seating room selections. Service was excellent-waiter was attentive and food arrived timely. The manager, Sandro(maybe wrong spelling) was very professional and warm, gave us a tour. Highly recommend!!! Go see it for yourself as these pictures don’t justify.

Lovely place! We went for a dinner party as a group of 16 and had one of the floors to ourselves. We had dedicated servers who were very attentive. They remembered everyone's drinks and were quite proactive at replenishing them. Our food was served buffet style, it tastes great. I'd recommend going while there's still some light, we missed out on the vibes because of the dark. I'd definitely like to go back in the daytime and explore the place a bit more.

This was an absolutely amazing experience. The food was amazing, there was one dish we weren’t particularly fond of, but they sent it back with no fuss and they gave me another dish that absolutely to die for. But the thing that made it the best was our server Mitch Nd to top it all off, they comped us a carrot cake and it was amazing.

Celebrated here with a birthday dinner. Atmosphere was lovely in the evening with lights in the trees, festive. I had filet mignon that was the best Ive had in a long while, flavorful and almost melted in my mouth. My friend ordered the trout which was also very good. Affogato for desert was yummy. Would recommend, especially for a special celebration.

Had an amazing brunch experience and Rudy made it even better. He was cool, professional, and genuinely attentive - the kind of service that feels effortless but makes a big impact. The vibe was on point: a live DJ spinning chill tracks, a beautiful waterfront view with boats drifting by, and a relaxed, upscale atmosphere that made it easy to unwind. Rudy navigated it all like a pro — friendly, helpful, and always one step ahead. Great food, great energy, and top-tier service. Can’t wait to come back!

Came here with a friend for high tea service- We had a lovely time, service was fabulous. Everybody is so nice, and what a treat to have the high tea! The cafe at House on the River is top notch. Best Pistachio Croissant I have had so far in south Florida. All of the baked goods are made in house and you can tell they are on a different level than other cafes and coffee shops. The smoked salmon omelet was also delicious. They are also very friendly and hospitable. I highly recommend it and will definitely be back.

I recently booked a table of 15 to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday for brunch. Anique was absolutely fantastic, accommodating to our every request and even finding more space when extra guests showed up. She went above and beyond to make sure our experience was perfect! Absolutely excellent choice. My wife and I where looking for a chill place with a nice view and vibe. This was better than we both hoped. An hour wait but so worth it because you can walk the Riverwalk while your waiting. Jolie was our server and her service was the cherry on top. Will definitely be coming here again and become a regular of Jolie.

We went for brunch and had a great experience. The restaurant is beautiful, the food was great and the atmosphere was amazing. Rich was our server and he made our time very special. Our experience was absolutely flawless, thanks to Raziel, our incredible Brazilian waiter. His warm smile, impeccable manners, and genuine kindness made us feel truly special. He went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect—he’s the kind of professional who turns a great meal into an unforgettable experience. The food was spectacular the Pappardelle with Burrata was simply exquisite, and I highly recommend it. The breathtaking waterfront view, the refreshing ocean breeze, and the expertly crafted drinks made the evening even more memorable. Honestly, Raziel should be the manager and get a well-deserved raise! He embodies exceptional service and is a true asset to the restaurant. We’ll definitely be coming back!

Such a picturesque historic family property (owned by the city, I believe I was told) thats been converted into a teahouse / restaurant with weekend buffets. Saw online a while back, & seems it's been open 2 or 3 years. Friendly & helpful staff w/ beautiful rooms & decor to explore!

HISTORIC GEM and Great Service. Loved the historic charm and riverside setting. Liz made our visit memorable with fun, attentive service. Dinner was excellent—steak and pappardelle were standout dishes. Brunch was decent but more limited. Mimosas were solid. Parking can be tough with no valet. Still, a 5-star experience!

Went here on NYE for dinner. The area of town where the restaurant is at was where they were having the NYE festivities. So many streets were blocked off, we had to walk a couple of blocks to get to the restaurant. Food was excellent, service was great, I will definitely like to go back there again. The house is historically beautiful so when I have more time I would like to go again.

Every bite felt like a chef’s masterpiece. Between the setting, the food, and the overall experience, this is easily one of the best meals I’ve had in South Florida. Highly recommend for anyone who wants a truly memorable dining experience!

The House on the River is a historical gem in the heart of the New River. Great happy hour drinks and food. Fantastic for a ladies’ lunch or dinner. The desserts are so delicious we ordered the chocolate one twice. Come by boat! There’s a floating dock in front of the restaurant.

A Hidden Gem in Fort Lauderdale – The House on the River What an unexpected treasure! My friends and I were bar hopping near our apartment when we stumbled upon The House on the River—and what a magical find it turned out to be. Huge thank you to Liz and Jill, who turned a simple night out into something truly memorable. Their energy, warmth, and hospitality were unmatched. While we didn’t try the food, the drinks were solid, and the vibes even better. Liz gave us a tour of the property, and honestly, it felt like stepping into a vintage fairytale. It reminded me of my mom’s house—full of charm, nostalgia, and character. Every corner had a story, and every detail was perfectly curated. If you’re looking for a place that feels like home but better, this is it. We'll definitely be back

The House on the River is truly a hidden treasure. My partner and I had our anniversary dinner there and fell in love with the location, service and food, so much so that I booked it for my milestone birthday celebration. It was a spectacular event. Neil and his staff did a fantastic job. My guest raved about the location, service and food. It was the perfect revenue overlooking the river. Highly recommend The House, whether it's dinner for two, a small gathering or large celebration. You won't be disappointed.

We went to The House on the River to celebrate my birthday with a brunch, and it was such a beautiful experience! 🎉✨ We tried the waffles with a side of bacon and the ciabatta bread with prosciutto, arugula, tomato, and cheese. Both dishes were absolutely delicious – the waffle was on the sweeter side but still so good, and the ciabatta was fresh and flavorful. 🧇🥓🥖 We sat on the patio overlooking the river, watching the yachts go by – such a stunning view! ⛵️ The decoration is gorgeous, with so much attention to detail. Every corner is picture-perfect, making it the ideal spot for amazing photos. 📸🌸 For drinks, we had a classic mimosa with orange juice and a refreshing mocktail, both super tasty. 🍹🥂 We can’t wait to go back to try their Veuve Clicquot brunch – it’s definitely on our list for next time! 🙌

What a beautiful experience! House on the River is absolutely beautiful- and the food is delicious as well. The food is delicious, I recommend the rigatoni with shrimp and for sides, the truffle fries are a must. Our waiter Rudi was extremely kind and attentive, however, the service overall was very slow and it felt like they were understaffed. Even though Rudi was amazing, we had to get up multiple times to ask for things ourselves.

The House on the River has recently opened and this is not the first restaurant of this group. The House is special and provides that special ambiance. The menu is fine and basic with good offerings. We were a group of three and were seated on the enclosed porch providing a nice view of the river and walk. We had the Green Goddess Chopped salad and the Salmon Tartare to start. Entrées included the Pan Roasted Chicken, the Grilled Mahi Sandwich, and an order of the Crispy Brussel Sprouts. We did not have drinks other than water. There was no bread service. Overall the wait staff was great and the various managers came past checking on the meals progress. When we first sat at the table the initial challenge for the staff was discovering how to turn on the lights in this seating area. I would definitely recommend trying put the restaurant.

We were a party of seven and went for Sunday brunch. Even though we had a reservation and arrived on time, we still had to wait over 20 minutes to be seated. The food was good, and the service was excellent, Rudy took great care of us. After brunch, I stopped by the bakery area and was truly impressed by the desserts and the wide variety of croissants. Honestly, they’re the closest thing to a croissant you’ll find outside of Paris. I was greeted by Shirley, the bakery café manager, who was incredibly friendly and welcoming. If you’re craving a real croissant and a great espresso, this is definitely the place to go.

Ordered a brunch for 2 and an egg Benedict with blackened shrimp. The food was definitely above average in regards to the taste. The presentation was on point and most importantly cooked to our liking. I forgot the names of our drinks but we ordered a spicy cocktail and a mule…both equally unimpressive. Most importantly, our server was personable and professional. She even answered a few menu related questions we had. ***oh we did also grab some pastries on our way out. A few pistachio croissants and cinnamon rolls. Delish!

Came here with the family for dinner. The food was good. I had the clans and linguine. Delicious. Steak and apps were good as well. Service was very pleasant but could use improvement. I expect the weighter to mark the table and keep drinks full in a place like this.

✨first visit to The House on the River in Old Ft. Lauderdale. We were excited to visit the historic property originally built by early founders dating back to the 1900s. Our family was excited to visit this location for the “Florida Riviera” experience. The brunch (29.99 p/p) was appealing to us. *Reservations are highly encouraged if you have a group/family. (Reservations require a credit card to hold in advance and a cancellation fee if you are a no show). Also be prepared to spend a minimum of $22.00 to park anywhere in the vicinity (even if you have a disabled parking permit). This is a great venue for dining solo, groups, or couples. Our preferred seating was outside on the patio. We visited on a Sunday at 1:30pm. The area was packed in junction with the jazz band playing nearby. Upon being seated, we were advised by our waiter that we would not be able to order the brunch due to strong presence of bumblebees 🐝 attracted to the syrup/sweets on the platter. We were very disappointed 😔 as it was a beautiful day outside and we wanted to enjoy the fresh air. We were moved to a table indoors (dark inside). It’s even more disappointing to learn that the bee situation has been ongoing for weeks and I am curious what management is doing to resolve the issue. At least four (4) other patrons moved their dining arrangement inside also. Our server - (Jorge M) was very polite and tried his best to accommodate us. In total, we spent $300+ ( including meal, parking and tip) and left disappointed.

Brought my mom here for her birthday brunch, and the ambiance was awesome — we sat outside, and the Veuve Clicquot–themed area was super cute. There was a DJ playing, and the view made the atmosphere even better. Unfortunately, we waited almost 30 minutes to get a server. We were eventually served by a manager who was very kind and apologetic about the mishaps, but I still had to ask the food runners for several things multiple times. We actually finished eating before receiving plates and sauces. The brunch boards were great overall — the short rib sliders were outstanding, and everything was beautifully presented. The waffles, however, were way too sweet, and I bit into a raw pork sausage, which was especially frustrating because I was just about to give my 2-year-old nephew a bite. They do include gratuity, but we still gave the manager an additional tip because of how attentive and kind she was. I also appreciated that the Veuve Clicquot Rosé bottle was reasonably priced compared to other places. When I went to use the bathroom before leaving, it smelled like sewer water, though I believe that may have been due to the high tides in Fort Lauderdale. I’d love to come back for the outdoor atmosphere, music, and views, but I was left a little disappointed by today’s experience.

This place is *so* close to being great. The building itself is wonderfully eclectic, old-fashioned and fun. The location is gorgeous as a rare restaurant directly on the water. There’s definitely room for improvement and from the reviews it’s not like the management isn’t aware. The hostess acts like you’re annoying her, the bartender is unsure why you want a cocktail. I’ve had spectacular servers hence the three stars because the five star service cancelled out the one. They also don’t seem to get along well with each other, which is usually a sign of subpar management. Of two bloody Marys, the first was spectacular and the second had to be sent back. It was horrible. The brunch board was kind of fun, but the food was mediocre at best. I’ve had dinner there too and overall, I’d say all the food and drinks are hit or miss. I sincerely hope the management sees the reviews and improves the staff and focuses on reliable food quality.

Review: Disappointing and Poor Value Afternoon Tea at House on the River We were really looking forward to afternoon tea at House on the River, but the experience was unfortunately very disappointing and did not reflect the premium price. While there was an issue with our reservation, the staff did make room for us, which we appreciated. However, after being seated, we waited more than 40 minutes for any food to arrive—even after asking twice about our order. When the food finally came, it was clearly not fresh. Everything on the tea tower seemed to have come straight from the refrigerator, and the scones and croissants were grocery store quality at best. We also discovered at the end of our visit that we were never served the salad that was supposed to be included in the prepaid tea service. We only realized this when the table next to us—seated as we were waiting for our check—was served their salad within minutes. It was disappointing to see others receiving the full experience while ours was incomplete. Additionally, we were not given napkins or utensils until we asked for them once the food arrived, and at no point was any acknowledgment or compensation offered for the delays, missing items, or poor quality. For the high price of this tea service, the food, service, and overall experience fell far short of expectations and did not justify the cost. Unfortunately, this was not the elegant or enjoyable afternoon tea experience we had hoped for.

Ambience is really nice especially if you sit outside Food is mid. Nothing note worthy Service is so shitty. I made reservation for one. Waiter walked by me at least 5x then deign to come and ask of I wanted water. Said he was told..I was waiting on someone. No warmth the entire time. What such about living in America is you should expect shitty service and still tip. Not worth it to me.

Lovely location. Nice ambiance. Service was good. Dirty martini had more vermouth than necessary. Artichoke appetizer was oily and lacked flavor. Added salt improved it somewhat. Husband enjoyed his steak. Roasted potatoes were great. Pork chop was cooked nicely but too salty. Over all for the price we expected better.

We had a reservation yesterday at 6:45 PM and arrived on time. We were seated right away, but then waited over 30 minutes and no one ever came to take our order. After about 18 minutes, someone told us they were having kitchen issues and that our server would be with us shortly, but no one returned. While waiting, we heard multiple complaints from nearby tables about long delays and missing orders. One woman mentioned her husband and daughter had already eaten while her dish never arrived. Due to the lack of service and communication, we decided to leave. Very disappointing experience. Be cautious when dining here.

Decided to book the Titanic First Class Valentine’s Dinner special event as something different to do for Valentine’s Day. Overall, the experience was very mediocre. The eleven-course affair was poorly timed, with nearly every dish coming out barely warm. There were 32 covers for this event, and the staff of 3 (and one manager) were not equipped to swiftly serve so many people. I'm sure the kitchen as well isn't equipped to keep these many dishes warm until ready for service. The wine pairings were often served well after the dishes arrived, so we would just sit there staring at our plates until the wine appeared. The manager in charge did make it a point to come around to the tables and explain the course being served, which was a positive point. But the service and overall quality of the meal was definitely not first class. The staff weren't sure which glasses to use for wine or water, and often had to go back to the bar to check what wine was being poured. As a note, we were given one – yes one – pair of cutlery for the ENTIRE meal. So get ready to enjoy your meat, fish, and other courses all with the same utensils. For $150 per person this should have been a fun and captivating event, but it is definitely one that you can pass on.

Maybe Friday the 13th is the reason for this bad dinner experience. Four of us had dinner last night. Our waiter seemed uninterested in being there. I asked our waiter how many pieces of meat are in the Charred Octopus appetizer. He said a few strips. It had one medium size strip. I asked our waiter about that. He said that is how it is served. When ordering the Crusted Rainbow Trout, I asked our waiter if the Roasted Garlic Broccolini was the small stalks with florets. He said you get a few strips. UNFORTUNATELY, only one Large Thick Stalk with two small florets was served. TERRIBLE. The Crusted Rainbow Trout was very good. However, about three tablespoons of Sweet Potato Mashed were on the plate. While we were waiting for our entrees, the waiter said our rolls would be out soon. They never arrived. When I asked the waiter, he said, "Oh, there is an extra charge.” - After he initiated the rolls being served. And … today I noticed my Charred Octopus was charged $22, vs. their website reads $19. In Summary, high prices, small portions, bad service, and incorrect bill charges.

No. Not what it once was and far from what could be. The worst meal I’ve had in years. This restaurant missed at every possible measurable point. The pics speak for themselves I will interpret. It took 20 minutes to deliver vodka on the rocks and the ice was completely melted. 50 minutes to deliver the “greens” salad, which was 99% lettuce with NO dressing. We also ordered the short ribs and snapper. You’d think it wasn’t possible to screw up short ribs as they cook all day. They did, fatty and minuscule. The snapper was worse. Thin fillet, overcooked, dry and stuck to the skin. The waiter was overwhelmed and we had to flag him down for attention. It’s obvious no one is running the ship. Food left the kitchen unchecked. My complaint about the salad was met with “why didn’t you sent it back”. To which I responded “the server never came back”. That set the tone. Last time I ate here was 20 years ago. They have been open about a year. The seating is as uncomfortable as possible. The chair leans back with a large dent for your butt. You have to hold yourself up to eat. The curtains are held in place with twist ties. Horrible.

I don't typically leave bad reviews but this experience warrants one. We made a reservation and was asked for a CC deposit (5 people). We had group after group seated before us, they came and went including groups our size and more. We asked the hostess who claimed "she already sat us" while we sat in front of her waiting for a half an hour. No apology, no assistance and now, no tables. We ended up leaving. Would not recommend, would not return.

Had a reservation for outside. Tables were seated outside. We were told that we could not sit outside due to potential weather- the table offered inside was unacceptable….next to kitchen in the middle of the server walk way. The hostess and manager were unwilling to provide another option, even though there were other tables open. We left.

House in the River is truly a hidden gem. I had the pleasure of meeting the owner, who is absolutely super sweet and so welcoming. She shared a bit of her story, both she and her son studied culinary arts in France, and it really shows in every detail of the food. The dishes were excellent, thoughtfully prepared, and full of flavor. The atmosphere is just as wonderful, warm, charming, and relaxing. On top of that, the restaurant is located in such a beautiful area, which makes the whole experience even more special. Highly recommend for anyone looking for amazing food, great energy, and a place with heart. 💛
