My family and I Love our food here. Typically for 4 people we get a Family Pack for $20 which gives us leftovers. That's basically a fantastic rotisserie chicken, and a large pkg of Yellow rice & beans. I'll often get Pastalillos as well which then gives us 2 meals. Even little little ones enjoy this.
*This business is cash only* They do have an ATM inside It's a busy inner-city local favorite with authentic Puerto Rican food. They have a small eat-in area and a takeout counter for quick pick-up. Lunchtime gets very busy so I'd suggest looking at the menu before walking in. The portions are large and everything I've ever gotten has been delicious. It's a must try if you haven't already.
I usually get my food to go due to it being heavily crowded in there. That’s only because it’s so good. My wife and I always get 2 Beef pastellilos and an order of the rice and beans. All the food is so good and to die for. They are also really cheap. Great place to get lunch if your in the downtown area.
One of those places you are blown away by. Walk in not expecting much, but it starts when the aromas blow you away. Start with the friendly service, then look at the small, but we'll crafted menu. A family rotisserie chicken dinner for $18, or a quarter or half chicken for just you. I got the roast pork sandwich, which came on a nice roll, juicy pork, and choice of lettuce, tomatoes, mayo, etc. By the way, the rice and sides are just as fabulous. The place is a must go to, another of the gems in Buffalo.
Delicious as always. Very flavorful, authentic Puerto Rican food. Just FYI they only take cash but do have an ATM onsite for your convenience
My favorite take-out in Buffalo. The chicken is so unreasonably good that you'll end up tearing into it with your hands, drawn into to a primal state of ecstasy. I don't know what they marinate their rotisserie with but it can't be legal. I tried the steak tonight and it's very good, too. This family business operates like a well-oiled machine and I've never seen a place pump out so much food so fast. Still, be prepared to wait in line if you go during the dinner rush ~6-8. I've waited half an hour to place an order during the rush but it's totally worth it and the food is ready minutes later. Not sure what to try? Get a family package and pastellios and share. Blow ya mind
I ordered a half roasted chicken with rice and beans plus a double order of garlic sauce. The chicken was succulent and tender and the garlic sauce had a pleasant kick. Delicious food and a great meal!
The absolute best food in the area. The family pack of Rotisserie Chicken with rice and beans is to die for. I'm a tad obsessed with the Pasteles, pastelillos can't live without atleast 3 times a year. The prices are great , fast service.
Niagara Cafe is such a gem. The pastelillos alone are worth the trip, but the fried pork, maduros and yellow rice are outstanding as well. The service is careful and respectful but also quick, catering to the counter cafe style of setup. It is cash only, so come prepared, but it is inexpensive - especially considering the quality of food you will get there.
FANTASTIC FOOD!!!! Went there by pure chance and LOVED everything about it! The food was AMAZING! So much flavor.....really delicious food! Even the cops came in to get their lunch!!! Best latino food I HAVE EVER HAD!!! Just like home cooked. And so reasonably priced. Totally amazing!
It took a little bit, had to wait a while after said time. It was well worth it, simple but delicious food! I could live off it! Prices are not current on website menu, so be prepared for a bit higher cost, still ca feed a bunch for cheap, enjoyed it for a belated birthday dinner with family, ad still want to go back soon.
This is my favorite restaurant in Buffalo
Delicious food,reasonably priced.Service is beautiful,family atmosphere.
Just went there for dinner with my mom n sister..What a great food .We're from New Jersey gotta say the Food was Banging . Highly Recommend...
Love! Love their pastalillo's!! I dream of them. Their family. Chicken meal is amazing and so reasonably priced. Employees are always very helpful, owner is always present (any time I've been there around 12 noon - 3pm)and always helping, working engaging. Great food!
Great food hightly recommend to family and friends im from new jersey and I come here every week definitely
Went here often when I worked downtown. It was always good then and is still good now. Rotisserie chicken is unbeatable. Everything I've gotten there is homemade and delicious.
The food was great. My only complaint is I decided to take my break there and eat on site. There were so many bees and due to my bee allergy I couldn't really enjoy my food after a bee landed on my chicken and stole a piece of meat. Lol I didn't even know bees ate meat 🤣. Other than that the passion fruit juice was excellent I just wish it came in a bigger size. They don't accept cards or cash up but have a convenient atm right in the store. My recommendation is the half chicken with the rice and peas, or the Rolleno that comes with the soup.
Best Puerto Rican food in Buffalo. Definitely a must have anytime I come back home.
One of my favorite restaurants. They have great food and great service. I've never eaten in, but the atmosphere is inviting. Their beef pastellitos are to die for and although I'm here many times a year or at their food truck during the summer, I think I will make it a yearly tradition to order food from here the night before Thanksgiving.
The food is so delicious and cheap. The line is usually all the way to the door, so you'll have to be patient to enjoy this neighborhood spot. However, the wait is always well worth it. Strongly recommend the rotisserie chicken and the pastelillos.
Stepping into Niagara Café feels like crossing a magical threshold straight into the heart of Puerto Rico. From the moment you walk through the door, you're embraced by the vibrant colors and lively atmosphere that make you feel as if you've landed in a Caribbean paradise. The walls are adorned with rich, cultural decorations – think vibrant murals, traditional Puerto Rican artifacts, and the rhythmic hum of salsa music filling the air. It’s impossible not to get caught up in the spirit of the place; it feels like a fiesta from the moment you arrive. Now, let's talk about the food. Oh, the food! The menu at Niagara Café reads like a love letter to Puerto Rican cuisine. I started with the Pernil (Roast Pork), which was nothing short of heavenly. Imagine tender, melt-in-your-mouth pork, perfectly seasoned and slow-roasted to perfection. Each bite is a savory explosion of flavor that leaves you craving more. Then there’s the Pollo Guisado (Stewed Chicken) – a comforting, hearty dish that feels like a warm hug from your abuela. The chicken is succulent, simmered in a rich, savory sauce with potatoes and carrots that soak up all those glorious flavors. It’s the kind of dish that wraps you in warmth and nostalgia. But the star of the show has to be the Mofongo. This is not just a meal; it’s an experience. The mashed plantains, mixed with garlic and pork rinds, create a delightful contrast of textures and flavors. Pair it with your choice of meat or seafood, and you have a dish that’s both hearty and deeply satisfying. And let’s not forget the Pastelillos (Empanadas) – golden, crispy turnovers filled with seasoned meats that are perfect for snacking or as an appetizer. The flaky crust gives way to a savory filling that’s bursting with flavor. Each bite is a little piece of Puerto Rican heaven. The Arroz con Gandules (Rice with Pigeon Peas) is another must-try. It’s a staple of Puerto Rican cuisine, and Niagara Café does it justice with its perfectly cooked rice, aromatic with sofrito and studded with tender pigeon peas. It’s the ultimate comfort food. No Puerto Rican meal is complete without Tostones – those crispy, twice-fried plantains. They arrive at the table hot and golden, crunchy on the outside and tender inside, just begging to be dipped into a tangy garlic sauce. What really sets Niagara Café apart, though, is the sense of community and warmth that permeates the place. The staff greets you like family, and their genuine friendliness makes you feel right at home. Whether you’re a regular or a first-time visitor, you’re treated with the same welcoming spirit. Located in the heart of Buffalo, Niagara Café is a beacon of Puerto Rican culture and cuisine. It’s the kind of place where you come for the food but stay for the atmosphere and the sense of belonging. Each visit feels like a celebration, a culinary voyage that takes you straight to the sun-soaked streets of Puerto Rico without ever leaving Buffalo. In short, Niagara Café is not just a restaurant; it’s an experience. It’s a joyous celebration of Puerto Rican flavors, a place where every meal is a fiesta, and every bite is a memory in the making. If you’re in Buffalo and craving a taste of the Caribbean, look no further than Niagara Café – it’s a vibrant, flavorful escape that’s sure to leave you enchanted.
We ate here a lot when we lived in Buffalo. We moved away and still miss it. Food is tasty and reasonably priced. If you haven't had Puerto Rican food, this is the place to try!!
I bought four dinners and sides. I had to get an extra meal for home later...That good!!
Great food and service. Cash only. Atms available
Niagara Cafe has incredible, authentic food. Service is professional, kind and fast. So far, I've really enjoyed everything I've had from Niagara, and have been going there for over a decade. They take a lot of pride in their food. Lunch specials are reasonable and ready within minutes. This is cash only, but they do have an ATM. There are a few tables for dine in, but takeout seems to be the norm.
Really great Food and 5 Star Customer Service.
Food is always amazing and a great atmosphere
Been meaning to go to Niagara Cafe for a while, and I finally made the visit when a friend was in town. I had the rotisserie chicken, and it’s was excellent. The skin was crispy and the meat was juicy. The rice and beans (served separately, not mixed together when served) made it a hearty meal. The pastillo was excellent with good seasoning. I plan to stop in again (probably order ahead) to grab another meal. Caution: Niagara Cafe is CASH ONLY, but there is an ATM on site if necessary.
If you looking for close to your culture food , great place. It's not an insult, just not many Colombian places in buffalo.
My wife loves pastelillos, so we came here. While we waited to order, we noticed more delicious looking creations behind the glass. We were reluctant to order because we didn't know what they were or how to say the name of the food. A nice man in line told us what they were and the proper way to say it. We butchered the pronunciation, but they knew what we meant, and we were thrilled with the choices. Everything was wonderful, including the fast friendly service. We can't wait to go back.
We had an incredible experience today. The food was delicious, the service was amazing, and we truly enjoyed talking with other customers. I was there with my young daughter, and the staff kindly helped bring our food to the table. Several customers took the time to talk with her and warmly welcomed us to their local church.
I had a really nice experience at Niagara Cafe. The atmosphere was welcoming and comfortable, and the staff made a great first impression — the ladies greeted me warmly and helped me decide what to order. I’m not from Buffalo — I’m from Houston, Texas — but I’m currently working in Lockport, so I know what rice and peas is supposed to look and taste like. The food here was well seasoned, which I definitely appreciate. I ordered the rice and peas, empanadas, and alcapurria. Everything tasted delicious and flavorful. My only small suggestion would be to add more peas to the rice and peas — it was mostly rice — but the flavor itself was still very good. Overall, the experience was enjoyable and the food satisfied me. Would I go back? Yes, I will. I definitely recommend stopping by if you’re looking for good Puerto Rican food in Buffalo.
The food is always fresh, hot, authentic & consistent. Great fast service. 10 out of 10!!!
Best Puerto Rican food in town, quick service. They do have a small seating area, but mainly designed for takeout.
Came for Rochester, NY, Man that rice was so authentic and that rotisserie chicken was o juicy! Best Spanish food I’ve had in a while!
Amazing rotisserie chicken, rice, beans, pastelitos! Pork chop is great too! Soooo good!
Love everything about this place. Amazing food most important. Went there Saturday for linner and wish it was closer to my home in Hamburg. Will definitely try to get there again.
Delicious food, good portions for the price. Minimal seating and cash only, there's an atm on-site
Great people with unbelievably amazing food. If you have not been here yet add it to your list of must try places.
Great place with really nice people. The food was great, I got rotisserie chicken with rice and it tasted amazing. Will be returning again and again! Only thing is that it’s cash only
The best Latin food in town. Excellent customer service. The owner gave us free food after we told him we came far away from Florida. Evelyn thank you so much for making us feel welcomed.
Authentic Puerto Rican food highly recommended by our friend. I've never had this cuisine before so I was very excited to try. We got an alcapurria (cassava&beef) and a pastelillo to start. Then we ordered roasted pork with maduros and beef stew with yellow rice. The food was tasty, very homey and meaty, overall an excellent combination. We also got passion fruit juice whichwas pretty refreshing. I was told that the establishment has been here for a long time, and I can understand why. They're just so good at what they do, and they give generous portions of the meat. The place itself doesn't have much seating area (which is totally okay) and they only accept cash, so please prepare ahead of time! Definitely worth it!!!
Great place to either try something new or have something familiar. They serve Puerto Rican cuisine here and it's amazing. Decent prices and great quality and service. I would definitely recommend coming here if you are in the area or in the mood for good food. You can sit and eat or get stuff to go. There is a great bakery across the street too!
Been around since I was a kid! I'm so glad they remained in the neighborhood where I grew up!! Food has ALWAYS been fantastic, spot on no doubt!!! Gracias Niagara cafe

Great, classic, traditional Puerto Rican food. Everything was so good, delicious!! This is their current menu prices, as of May 2025.

I have never had the problems with service some people are reporting in. This is a downtown Buffalo diner. The decor isn't fancy, the people aren't nice until you get to know them and they get to know you, and the food is outstanding. I happen to love the little waitress who waits on us, then again, I am there quite a few times a year. :)
I've been coming here for 15 years and I've never had a bad meal or left hungry. The place can get pretty hectic during busy hours but your patience will be rewarded with great authentic puerto Rican food. The building it self is why I can't give 5 ⭐it's seen better days, and the service can be a little sultry. Roasted pork platter you'll thank me later.
I go here all the time. Best chicken and rice dinner in town. Pastelillos are super greasy and I don't like their chicken stew. I had better from another local restaurant. But other than that food is good.
A good place to go if you can wait! The food here is decent....not mind blowing but decent. The major problems i see with this place is that they are always busy when i go and they run out of food a lot so you are constantly waiting even if you are in the take out line or call ahead. They are notorious for running out of rotisserie chicken and their pastellilos which they are famous for. The father mother daughter tandem of servers seems to be the only ones who know whats going on. Everyone else seems to have a lackadaisical approach to service which more than likely stems from the fact that the cooks cannot keep up. You maybe better off going to their new food truck that they just got. The owner is super friendly and is big on community and it shows with the amount of patrons that visit there daily!
Fantastic food at a great price! I would have given 5 stars but for the fact that they don't handle busy times very well. When they figure this out there's no stopping the place. I highly recommend them in any event.
Great food & nice people! Seat yourself. They were fairly busy and we still only waited 10 minutes for our dinner. Cash only. Wish I could make it there more often.
This is a former sit down restaurant, that is no longer a sit down due to their high traffic. It's a very busy place for lunch and dinner. Food: Their Chicken, rice and beans is as good as it gets in Latino cooking over all. Service: This place does not take credit or debit cards, so your stuck paying twice as much for an ATM withdraw, like 6 dollars, 3 by the ATM and 3 from your bank. Really? Were in 2024. Atmosphere: if long lines and a bit noisy crowd doesn't bother you, then your fine. You can be in line for 20 minutes with an office person counting loads of cash due to the office pitching in for lunch and there is no credit card fast swipe, and a homeless man behind you in line to buy food with money he collected begging outside. There is no Ambience in this place to enjoy the culture. It's a grab and go spot like a bakery. Some say that the rotisserie chicken, rice and beans are worth it though. I'll leave that up to you.
Love the food but they don't take credit, debit or phone payments.
Been coming here for many years. Great staff great food
I've always loved this place. my favorite chicken pastelillos in town. cash only in 2023, especially when you're as successful as this place, AND when you take orders via delivery services (how does that even make sense) is gonna cost 'em a star. I also miss how big the dining room was pre-covid. they have a few booths available, but the vibe here these days overall is definitely "grab and go." food is still as good as ever though, and that's the most important piece of the puzzle here.
This place has food so close to Mom's (helps if you're Latino), it's not funny. Haven't been here in years...awesome to come back and see the SAME owners doing the same thing. Consistency and giving back to their community. The food is tasty, plentiful and at a fair price. I walked in today and saw Latinos, black, Asian and caucasians in line. Awesome.
Great food. Tried 7 items, all very good. Lo e the sweet plantains with a spicey dipping sauce. Did not expect that. The other highlight are the pastille. Looking forward to going back.
Food is out of this world good. Be prepared to wait if it's busy, but it's busy for a good reason.
The pastelitos are really good here. They are always made fresh and have a great flavor. I did order 2 chicken and 2 beef but only received 2 chicken and 1 beef but was only charged for 3. I'll take partial blame for not paying attention to the price. Would recommend going here. Their food truck and taste of Buffalo portions are small and expensive but in the restaurant they are full sized and reasonably priced.
You absolutely can never go wrong with this place. If you’re looking for a quick, well seasoned, bite… This is the spot. Chicken is always well seasoned. Rice and beans are always consistent. The food always does the job when your hungry.
Food is great! I’ve never had any issues and have been going there for years. Very very affordable and the portion sizes are amazing, you really get your monies worth.
Pastelillos and the stuffed potato balls are really good! The chicken is very well seasoned, very moist and tender, but in the inside it lacks that flavor! Maybe during the marinating process it felt short! It not always like this I suppose that's why I'm giving them 4 stars!
I hadn't been there in a while, and I remember they had really good Spanish food. They were busy, which is understandable as I went after work, around dinner time. However, I was disappointed in the food this time around. Still good for something to grab on the go, but seems like they are starting to skimp on things like potatoes in the bean sauce, and green olives in the rice, etc. But charging more. The pastelillos are still good but the chicken ones were dry. Not something I was expecting from them. Could have just been a busy day, and they were off. That's what I'm hoping, so I'm still giving stars. I also really dislike that they are cash only, but they do offer an ATM for a fee. I'll have to go again to see if they really fell off or if it was just a bad day.
The food was tasty! I have to mention that the rice was exceptionally well cooked for a latin america restaurant: firm & chewy, reminded me of sushi rice in texture. While the ratings are high, the photos failed to convince me and are we almost left before giving it a shot. I’m glad we stayed and we are pleasantly surprised. Will definitely return for take out. We ordered almost all the sides and the pernilla plate. The pastelilo - again surprised me - slightly spicy, crispy without tasting fried. I should mention that I’ve never had Pureto Rican food so can’t say it authentic, but it tastes like a quality home cooked meal.
I used to really love this place. The food just doesn't taste as good as it used to and the prices are not really friendly. Seems portions are smaller and prices just keep going up. Even the sides are outrageously priced for what you are getting. Still good but it used to be better.
Overall nice spot for Carribean food and appetizers! It's amazing how the foods are similar in different countries throughout the Caribbean and south America. Felt a little like home. Would return in the future
The people were nice and generous with the portions of food. Delicious! Smells good too. It is small and was crowded with the dinner patrons when I ordered my meal but some nice men got up and gave me their seats. Very cozy and warmly welcoming in there. It's a nice Spanish dining experience in Buffalo.
I love their food but the chicken is smaller and staff don’t listen. This is the third time I’ve gone to the restaurant and they messed up my order. I only asked for all dark meat this time. I don’t get it I get white meat and I don’t open the food until I get home in Niagara Falls so I could not change it bc they were closed and extremely far away from me
Niagara Cafe is a great place to get Puerto Rican food on Buffalo's West Side. If your getting take out stay at the counter and your order will be taken. If you choose to sit down, you just go ahead and pick your own seat. You will be served as soon as possible. Their chicken is rotisserie style and flavored with sazon and other goya seasonings. The skin is crispy and very tasty. While cooking the chicken the top racks continue to spin and the juice drips to the next row of chicken underneath. This helps in keeping everything juicy. Their pastalios ($2.50) are very good, but becareful sometimes they can be a bit greasy but the flavor is over the top. I always get the family meal that consist of a full chicken with beans and rice for $18. Well worth the price, especially considering how much food you get.
Chicken and rice, get some!!! Flavorful and tasty! beans are a perfect side dish, but worth trying out everything in the menu. Price is awesome. Definitely a good stop.

It's the only place we go to get Puerto Rican food. For the most part, it's really good but then, there are other times, not so much ... No flavor, watery beans. Guess it depends on who's cooking.
Good food, decent prices.only problem is that they only accept cash.but they will accept your debit card to withdraw money from their atm to pay them for your food, kind of a win win for them.🤔
I ordered a Pernil dinner for take out and was pleased with the meal until I found a few hairs in my food near the end of my meal. One would think they were my own, however I do not have grey hairs. All in all, the food was good and I would return again in hopes of a better outcome.
We came here after reading all the great reviews. But in our experience the food was okay. The beans were not good at all. They tasted like a can of tomato sauce. They forgot to give us mayo ketchup for our order of plantains and the rice was a bit salty. However the staff were friendly and the price was reasonable. There was no sitting area available due to covid restrictions.
The only thing I did not like was when I ordered a family chicken dinner with beans and the large bean was mostly juice and a half cup of beans and the fact that the skin of the chicken is the only part that really had flavor
I love this place but unfortunately today I ordered a family meal for my kids through Instacart and I’m so disappointed my chicken was burnt and so dried out I had to try to eat the soft parts which was barely any maybe even old and the pastille the chicken was so dry I’ve never had a bad experience here until today and I can’t even eat my meal that I paid 42 dollars for and apparently on Instacart they don’t do refunds 😡😡😫😫I don’t drive so I can’t even go in physically thanks a lot I really looked forward to my dinner and now I have to pay more money to find me and my kids something to eat
I ordered from Niagara Cafe through Uber Eats and requested a side of carne guisada gravy for my rice, but there’s no note section in the app. I called the restaurant and asked if they could add it, and the guy on the phone was rude and dismissive. He claimed it would “mess up all the Uber orders” to do it for me and said the bag was already closed, even though the driver was still there waiting. They also told the driver they didn’t have any gravy before I even called, which just wasn’t true. The food itself was good, but the garlic sauce was not what I expected, it was a weird red sauce, not the usual garlic mojo. Overall, solid food, but the customer service and honesty need work.
I am saddened to say that the food was so bland. Absolutely no seasoning whatsoever. The pastelio’s were dry. The rice was bland, it was overall disgusting. I hear a lot of great things about this place. It was my first time having them, and it is my last. I just wonder whoever taught the cooks to make authentic Puerto Rican food. Did they teach them to season it too? Or did they skip that part? I didn’t even finish my meal. My mother drove 9 miles for the food, because she was too tired to make her own. Just for a heavy disappointment. Literally nobody finished their food. It was that bad, I thought I was the only one......smh
TRUTHFULLY, after ordering this pure garbage. Rice no taste the beef and chicken hard as a rock. I'd rather eat dirt. Never ever ever ever again.
Terrible service if you dine in. The server was older and so mean! She yelled at us because she didn't want to hear each persons order she wanted to know everyone's order quickly and before we even knew. When we asked her to come over she literally gasped as if so annoyed. The food is Not even worth the attitude issues. Second time we came here and it's either The food is either too salty or has not enough flavor.
I have them one more chance today...they disappointed me again and for the last time...im ordered 4 pastellios.hard...hardly any filling...pitatoes were very small compared to what I had got in past...prices have increased...and quality had gone down...will be going to competition across the street...spent over 40 dollars...never again
I went here over the weekend , ordered $43 dollars in food and as she was preparing it , there was a cockroach walking across the counter. I tapped the guy next to me and another guy also saw it.. the guy told the lady and she casually picked it up with a napkin and continued with orders 😭😭😭I used to eat here regularly- never again!!!!!
There's no reason to not have card readers for so long. They've only accepted cash since always.
Terrible food experience. Ordered chicken, rice and beans. Side of sweet potatoes. The chicken was almost like jerky- that's how cooked it was. The rice was delicious but the sweet potatoes were sour for some reason, incredibly soft as well. I had heard such great reviews but honestly the chicken was so tough that it was like eating leather.
The worse food I ever had. TOTAL TRASH!!!!! Will never go back there!!!
As a latino, this place didn't meet my expectations. The food wasn't well seasoned. The beans lacked of salt. The yellow rice tasted like white rice. The tostones and amarillos were the frozen ones. The fish... I don't even know what that was. Awful. The only thing we really like were the chicken empanadas and yucas alcapurrias. PS. The customer service was really bad. And they are a cash only restaurant...
The food was cold;and it tasted old..plus had no real Puertorriquen or Mexican tasted at all.. Let me explain I know they are a mix family. But they didn't put their heritage and cuisine behind it at all...I remember going there with my father and the food was amazing back then!! Sorry but I don't think I'll be visiting the. Again...
The young girl takes my order. I give her the order she gives me the wrong order. I drive all the way home to South Buffalo from the west side to give my son our food. The food is incorrect. I have to drive all the way back cause this is the third time out of the last five times that they’ve given me the yellow rice and I don’t like the beans at all so I don’t eat them. I get back there. I give her the food. Tell her she gave it to me wrong. She just fixes it gives it back to me with cold beans never said she’s sorry never offers anything. Never tries to give me my money doesn’t try to replace. It doesn’t try to fix it at all. I’m a general manager at a restaurant. That’s so unprofessional it’s disgusting and I usually eat there about twice a week. I will never come there again. Beware because I went back to take my food back and the whole line was complaining because they weren’t taking the orders, they weren’t writing them down. They were skipping with other people.
