I recently saw a TikTok video by Chef Glen and decided to visit the Brownstone Cafe to see what they're all about. I've lived in Fullerton for 2 and a half decades, y'all and didn't know this gem was hiding in plain sight...well almost. ☺️🫣 I had the Grilled chicken, mushroom, cheddar and avocado sandwich with the tomato basil soup. This comes as a combo with a cup of soup. I love tomato soup with a grilled cheese sandwich, so I was curious and confident so I asked for a bowl of the soup. Everything was so delicious! My first bite of the sandwich almost had me jump up and throw my glasses 🤓 (IYKYK)! The soup is also delicious! Paul Hollywood would probably call it "rustic" since it contains small bits of the ingredients that you can chew on as enjoy the soup's flavor. I went on a warm and sunny January afternoon. The courtyard there inside of Villa del Sol is a secret oasis in the middle of Downtown Fullerton. I overheard my server, Kim, tell the customers at the next table that the building is 100 years old. California feels relatively young in comparison to the East Coast, but 100 years is nothing to sneeze at. I definitely recommend The Brownstone Cafe.
Ordered the meat lovers omelette with sour cream and avocado. Fantastic omelette. Potatoes have a great texture to them but do taste slightly like chorizo which was good to my girlfriend but I wasn’t too big a fan. The three cheese sandwich tasted home made. Nothing crazy but not offensive. The tomato bisque was sweet for me which I did not like. Food overall was a 7/10. Atmosphere 10/10. Service for the amount of staff I’d say was about 10/10.
Quaint , quiet place being a throwback in time ........ Being to Folsom Powerhouse ( first ever to use 60 Hertz as new technology in 1895 delivering to Sacramento ) Visited July 23-2024 @ 10:00 . Is unfair that not a 4 1/2 star is rendered in system... Was brought a glass of ice water before being offered any drinks , in retrospect she was a very perceptive waitress noticing that I was about to break a sweat. Easily becoming a 5 star review for service ... ... Notice in pic that the location is grandiose - South facing and the slighlty wet patio - perfect for a summer outing -. A mini bouquet in every table indoors adding to the ambiance. ..... Arched , brick old building as shown ... Food was delicious .First time ever in my 60+ reviews history that the cook came to my table to thank me for letting him cook to my order . Only thing CLASHING is the hanging pictures . Right motif - food/veggies ; but modernistic colors . Colors are too vibrant , need subdued colours to a full epic throwback in time
The atmosphere will take you back in time. It's very natural and charming experience. The service was really good. It feels just like home. The food is really good. I'd come back for the potatoes
Always the best stuffed french toast ( i recommend the king) and tomato bisque
1st time here!! Came for breakfast. Had blueberry pancakes with whipped cream! Yum! Everyone at our table loved the food! This place is great. Cecelia was our server, friendly and fast. She even took a picture for us. I will be back, I can’t wait to try lunch next time.
Family run and Operated business I keep coming back for Brownstone Breakfast. Quiet during the week, great service and consistently good food.,Every day.Complementary Parking in the Plaza Del Sol, in back. Handicapped access. Beautiful brick with simple water fountain in the open air court yard.Dont miss this spot!
Hidden gem inside the historic old fullerton hotel, also known as Villa del Sol. Love the atmosphere of this Cafe, food options are amazing, plenty to choose from for those light or picky eaters as well as those who have a hearty appetite, a MUST VISIT!
Great food, and cute ambiance for brunch with indoor and outdoor seating. Would recommend the breakfast burrito and berry stuffed french toast.
Super French Toast. Coffee! :) Eggs and bacon! :) Potato dish…..
Nice location, great ambience, fantastic food
Great food, friendly staff
She makes home made jams too
Good food nice atmosphere
Excellent food!
Great breakfast!
They put up with our small party sticking around for waaay too long after finishing eating, and didn't complain or try to shoe us out. Sorry for that Brownstone! Food is amazing too.
Wonderful atmosphere, delicious food and friendly service. So glad out of all the breakfast places near by that my wife and I found this gem.
Wonderful cozy not noisy good table spacing, very good food, owner on site to make certain the guests are happy.
The atmospere is wonderful. The food is even better. I love their french toasts. I had 2 this morning. :) Overall good breakfast place.
Been here numerous times; food excellent, atmosphere beautiful. Really great place for brunch or late lunch.
Favorite place to eat with my family on a Saturday morning.
Really enjoyed the breakfast here. Go a burrito and my fiance got zucchini and eggs which looked amazing!
Great little outdoor restaurant hidden in downtown Fullerton. Great Food, good Morning cocktails, awesome Staff. Dog Friendly
The courtyard is a great place to sit and have breakfast! Omelets and French toast are amazing. Will be back!
We come for brunch anytime we have spare time during the weekend. I usually get the pesto Benedict with potatoes and hot tea.
Such good food, pleasant staff, and super cute atmosphere! Love it here
Great service Hawaiian delight breakfast delicious generous portion. Relaxing atmosphere
Nice quiet place situatednon the court yard. Great atmosphere and really good food.
Uniquely great food! Not greasy, great tasting breakfast
Very lovely. Always so friendly. Great choices for lunch.
Kim and Glen are amazing love love the tomato basil soup 😊
Great breakfast choices and salads. Awesome stuffed French toast.
Great service and great food.
Wonderful. Especially the Tomato Basil Bisque soup.
Great ambience, good food, friendly staff.
LOVE the Brownstone!! Delicious food and family friendly atmosphere!!
One of my favorite places to eat great food. Everything there is so delicious it's hard to choose what to eat.The service is amazing, they make you feel like royalty.
Amazing breakfast and beautiful atmosphere. The owner even came out to personal check on us. Friendly staff, look forward to trying their lunch menu.
Still crazy good after all these years!!! Local Favorite. Relax on the patio, order take out lunch/breakfast, or special ocassion buffets are awesome....Mothers Day buffet always ROCKS!!!
I asked for some very specific things to happen with my omelette. They gave me no pushback whatsoever and produced exactly what I asked for. Amazing. The atrium vibe is immaculate.
I attended a wedding shower today. The food was catered by Brownstone and included sandwiches, salad, pasta, and fruit. Everything were absolutely delicious!
The food is very rich, and the service is excellent.
Had real nice lunch on an outdoor patio. Waitress super friendly. Cook came out to our table to see if everything was okay. This was a plus. Made me and my party feel special. Eggs benedict looked amazing but I hadd eggs scramble. My mother had the chicken wrap which she was very pleased with. I definitely will be back to try that egg benedict. The outdoor eating area super chill and relaxing. Also overheard that the tomato bisque soup is the best.
Because of implants in my jaw, I have been unable to foods that most people take for granted. I usually cook at home. One Sunday I decided to try the brownstone. After explaining to the server my issues, she brought me to the cook. He made fantastic eggs to my specific instructions, adding his touch. I was able to eat in a restaurant again! I’m going back! Thank you Brownstone. I do appreciate your attentiveness.
Excellent food, service, location and perfect for doggies. It's the main reason we picked this restaurant as we traveled with our senior dog. Lots of other nice local shops in the building. Would definitely go back for more exploring
Service was alittle slow for breakfast/brunch due to covid and limited staffing....but it was worth the wait for the food. The food was phenomenal and very delicious! The pricing for the for food is reasonable and affordable. The atmosphere of the cafe is gorgeous and made the wait better. I've eaten at alot of places for breakfast and they don't compare to this place. I would absolutely return again for another plate of their gourmet culinary cuisine along with their wonderful relaxing atmosphere
Breakfast was so good reasonable priced friends service
This is another unique restaurant tucked away in the historic California Hotel (now called the Villa del Sol). The courtyard is the perfect place to spend an hour or two just grabbing a quick breakfast, or sitting by the fountain and having a cup of coffee. The owners/operators have created a cool little place with a ton of character and peacefulness. Chef Glen has created brand new menu items that are vegetarian (or maybe vegan - I never can remember the rules) that are actually quite tasty at least as far as this confirmed carnivore is concerned. We've held company events and parties at the Brownstone Cafe - and all of our experiences have been flawlessly successful. Chef Glenn and Kimberly work hard to make sure everything is perfect. So if you want a quality meal (or a team building/special event) at a reasonable price and in a peaceful setting, then drop by and say "Hi" to Chef Glenn, Kimberly and the rest of the Brownstone staff.
Just got my breakfast via DoorDash. Had an amazing Mediterranean Omelet with avocado. It was delicious. I only wish I could have had an opportunity to select wheat bread instead of white bread from the DoorDash menu/app.
I love the food at the Brownstone Cafe. It is always very fresh, taste great and healthy. I love sitting outside and relaxing with a cup of coffee or an iced tea. The owner is a great guy and a great chef. I always get very good service
Fantastic atmosphere. I can't wait for cold weather to force me to dine inside because they have a decorator's touch! Whoever doesn't like this restaurant didn't try the Salmon Benedict.
The Brownstone continues to deliver. The location is one of the most beautiful and relaxing venues in Historic Downtown Fullerton; Glenn and Kimberly continue to put out a consistent menu; and they are always giving back to the community. Chef Glenn donates his time to helping in so many ways - including supporting the Fullerton College Foundation to create scholarships for students. As a Merit Badge Counselor for the Boy Scouts of America, I was honored that Chef Glenn and Kimberly hosted my participants after a visit to the Fullerton Courthouse. The Brownstone Cafe is a beautiful venue; it is owned/operated by people who work with, and give back to, our community, and it is just a cool, unique place to grab a bite.
I had a great experience here. The food was great and service was good. My wife and I enjoyed the courtyard and the chef personally thanked us for the visit. We will definitely be back and try more of the menu. Prices are accessible and I love to support local businesses better than big corporations.
The food is delicious with a great variety to choose from. The owners are personable and professional. I have dined there with different friends for breakfast and lunch. Delicious and charming and two words that keep coming up. There is a choice of seating either outside next to a fountain with umbrellas, or inside which is nice too. It's located in downtown Fullerton in the historic Villa del Sol. Enjoy!
I love a place that has a signature dish that I only want from there: stuffed French Toast. Such an adorable location and atmosphere.
Big fan of the food here, first time coming today and the grilled cheese and tomato soup was awesome. Kim was a great host as well, really a lovely time. Would recommend!
My daughter found this restaurant online so we decided to give it a try. We came early, about 12:30 on New Year's Eve and by 1pm, the place was filling up. The menu had a mix of food for my entire family. I had the burger with an extra patty, my 14 year old son tried the grilled cheese (he's ALWAYS a burger kid), my daughter had the egg sandwich and my wife had the burrito. All the food was high quality and fresh, especially for the price. It's my understanding the menu does change from time to time depending on the popularity of items. But what really made me write this review was our server JULES (name on receipt). She was just a pleasure to talk to. She told us about popular items on the menu, talked about the new fish menu, told us how their beer selections are made and how long she's been working there. I can't say enough about our positive experience. We look forward to returning and hopefully seeing Jules again. I hope our review can be shared with her because she deserves the accolades.
Beautiful courtyard atmosphere with indoor and outdoor seating. Food was very delicious (best grilled cheese and tomato soup I’ve ever had), but portions were a tad bit small. Decently priced. They were a bit busy when we arrived, which wouldn’t have been an issue, but our initial hostess who sat us was a bit sluggish (our waitress who brought out the food was phenomenal and attentive though!)
The only reason they don't get 5 stars is because the coffee is pretty burnt and bitter. But hot damn is the stuffed french toast amazing. I got the apple Walnut and what a treat it was. It comes with potatoes which while tasty I was never going to have room for. It's like mom's apple pie had a baby with ricotta french toast mmmmmmm
Generous breakfast portions.
Waitress was so nice The waffles were ok . The stuffed mushrooms were yummy It was nice sitting out in the courtyard and wine was also nice
The prices are really reasonable and the service is actually pretty quick. If you're looking for a quite great place to have lunch, drop by here.
Food was great! Just missing some good coffee and fresh juices.
Service is good and the chicken gravy in great. I can personally recommend any of their benedicts.
Excellent tri tip sandwich with good bun and quality cheese. Perfect!
Very tasty but often doesn't open on time....very nice staff...
Food is great, service is slow.
Very good food rustic setting.
Very good food and OUTSTANDING SERVICE!
Hidden Gem. The Brownstone Benedict was surprising, in a great way. Who knew country gravy, soft flavorful ham and a perfectly soft poached egg would be better than the classic? A little bit difficult to locate, but absolutely worth it.
Food was very yummy and filling! Just the right size portions. However, the latte I got was quite bitter and didn't have much flavor.
Why I come back. Excellent huevos rancheros! Coffee was full bodied and flavorful, the waffles were good. It has an excellent atmosphere with indoor outdoor dining. The only negative is the service is pretty slow.
We enjoyed our brunch, which consisted of an Asian type salad and my husband had an omelette. Service was slow, though only 5 tables had customers. In fact, another diner approached us and was amazed at our patience for staying. Two diners approached the waitress directly in order to get their check. Our table had crumbs on it that had not been wiped away. Nice restaurant environment though. The waitress was nice but the service was slow.
Slow service and the staff can be unhelpful at times
Time goes by a little slow here but the people that come here don't seem to mind. I enjoy service a little faster but the people here are really nice and the food is good...just not great
We came for a birthday lunch, and it’s a good thing we had plenty of time to sit and visit, because there was very little in the way of service. We had started with one waitress, got our appetizer order in, and waited. She came back later and took the main order, and then we waited. Then we wound up with a second waitress, with no one telling us they had switched off. This was after I tried to wave anyone down get more water, and finally had to go to the counter to ask for some. The Cobb salad was pretty good. The bacon was plentiful and delicious— likely thick-sliced applewood smoked bacon. The turkey was hardly capable of being detected as being meat. It was hard to tell whether it was ham or what; it almost looked plastic, (pic included). I didn’t eat it; hubby did, when I took it home. The bruschetta bread was light-textured and crisp, with abundant chopped grape tomatoes. Nice sweet balsamic vinegar to top. Stuffed mushrooms were flavorful and nicely textured The lemon bar was the best! Perfect lemoniness, light creamy texture but with a thin crisp crackle crust top edge. The bottom crust was perfectly crisp and buttery. All in all, I suspect they are short-staffed, and the waitresses are tired and overworked. We still tipped them 15% out of pity.
This place was alright. We went at the end of lunch rush so we got a table fast even though it was still busy. It was close to 3 pm, which is when this place closes, so there was only one server on staff. But she wasn't busy because it was slowing down. Even though it had slowed down, our food took an extremely long time to come out and our server was scarce around our table too. She never came back to get the check so I had to walk it up to the counter to pay it. On top of that, the food was pricey for being just ok. I got the fettuccine alfredo, which was pretty good, but it was swimming in oil. More oil than the amount of bread they give you. I went here because I had an e-foodie deal, but don't feel it's worth going back.
We had high hopes and were sorely disappointed. My partner and I always see this place when we go to our other favorite spots in down town Fullerton. We decided we'd try this spot. At first we were pleased with how quickly we were sat and our drinks order was taken and the brought out. After our drinks were brought out it went down hill. We sat at our table for 30+ minutes waiting for someone to take our food order. My partner had to flag someone down for them to finally come to our table. Then, our order was taken and we had to wait another almost hour for our food to come out. The food was mediocre and bland, definitely not worth the wait. The outsidr environment/ scenery is very beautiful but you could get the same view if you go to Green Bliss Cafe across the way. Also, we found a gnat in the Salt (pictured).
The boy that sat us down was nice but the waitress took forever to take our order, we did not try the food since we did not want to wait, we paid for drinks and left.
Cold food and cold coffee. Slow service. Bloody Mary…? Did it have any Vodka? Tried it 3 times.
I'll be up front, I did not actually eat here. My girlfriend and I arrived and the location is very nice, a courtyard in a Spanish style building with lots of plants. However, when we arrived we were greeted with a sort of scattered brained waitress who seemed really stressed. Then we heard another waitress say something along the lines of "let them be mad, we are short staffed". Then we saw a man go up and hand deliver his card and check to one of the waitresses as if he'd been waiting a long time for it to be picked up. All this did not give me good vibes about eating here, so we left after requesting a table for 2. All in all, I don't blame the waitstaff if they don't have enough help. Shame, because it is a great location.
Worst service ever! We called ahead and were told now is a good time to come. The busser sat us, got our drink orders and said our server would be right with us. Server didn't acknowledge us at all. I had to go inside and let her know we were ready to order asked for more napkins and a second mimosa. She had an attitude like we were a nuisance. Water never came. Birthday breakfast a bust.
It was okay. Service was a little slow & disorganized, however the peope are sweet. Food was decent, not fancy or extremely great. Brownstone breakfast pizza was great! Overall the cafe has a rustic theme that looks like it has been here for over 50 years & it the building shows proof of that.
Once seated we waited a little longer than average to place our order. When the order arrived 2 of them were not warm enough to eat, so they were remade. In addition my Waffle was cold but I chose not to return it because we already asked for two new entrees. Overall, the service was average to below-average. They need to do some work to streamline the operation.
Decent food but very generic the breakfast sausage and the potatoes were good. I was very disappointed in receiving ready whip instead of homemade whipped cream. Service was not slow even though the place was empty and our table was sticky.
The service is great but the food that we were served had no flavor. When it arrived to our table it looked delicious but when we tasted it there was no seasoning even salt and pepper couldn't save it. Think twice about coming here
Horrible! Service was horrible, food was just as terrible. First and last time we will EVER go again.
Took almost 20 minutes to get our name on the list. Then waited about another 20 before finally deciding to just leave. Didn't even get seated
Went there for breakfast and got know service not paying anyone to ignore me.
The food was horrible. I was served a Greek salad with old mushrooms, canned olives, soggy feta and tomatoes. Given Italian dressing and an over cooked chicken breast. I should have read the reviews first.
We were the only people there at 10;30am on a weekday and service was slow, they got both orders wrong, food was like dennys but not hot. Resturant smelled like a restroom. Prices were reasonable but even then it just wasnt a good experience at all.
We usually love this place second time there had the worst experience with a very rude waitress. I don’t remember her name she was extensively rude and judgmental made us feel really uncomfortable please if the owner sees this let me know how I can contact you about this thank you
Food was decent but the service was horrible. I asked for a pitcher of water in the beginning before we got the meal, and didn’t get it until I asked for the fourth time. The waiter brought our plates out 25 minutes after we ordered. As soon as our plates were all situated, they didn’t even bring utensils. We had to ask for them. I’m leaving 1 star because I told the manager on the side (not in public ) about this and she didn’t even have the courage to come to the table and apologize. Her response was short about how they work together as a team to accommodate with the table. Also, our tabs were all messed up. Don’t come here if your party is more than 7.
You need to do better. Coming here several years and it has gone downhill. Pancake was burnt and I ordered an omelette that included alfalfa sprouts. When the omelette arrived there were no alfalfa sprouts. When asked where it was I was told they had run out. Should have told me upfront or maybe asked if they could substitute it for something else. Tables are a little dirty. Went back a second time due to hubby being hungry and not wanting to wait. We were not pleased. I am not sure what happened. Was it change in ownership or cook? Not we’ll run.
Took about ten minutes to get water and order, then another 50 minutes to get our food. They probably made it in their quoted 15-20 minute time frame, because when it arrived, it was cold. As for the taste, their cold eggs Benedict was similar to a McMuffin if you let it sit for about 20 minutes before you eat it. There are better ways to waste $50 around Fullerton, I suggest you keep walking.
If I could I would give this place a -5 star! This place has the worst service ever. Over an hour to even have our order taken. Then finally once the food arrived 3 out of the 5 plates had hair in them and then we get called a liar and the bill thrown in our face! Extremely rude and insulting. Never experienced anything like this. This place is an embarrassment to Fullerton!
My waiter, Manuel, was the absolute worst. I sat there, with an empty glass of soda, and watched him wait on the same four tables 3 times and not once did he ever come over and even ask if I wanted a drink refill. After I finished eating, I sat there for like 5 minutes and finally he asked if I wanted a refill. I said no because at that stage, what's the point. I'll never patronize this place ever again.
Prolonging conversation with customers well your the only one working causes a longer wait for other customers who are ready to leave.
