Monk McGinns Albee Square Reviews
Stumbled upon this place by a Google search. Worth every penny. The food was amazing. The selection of bears was amazing. The service was absolutely amazing. We will be back.
I love this place. I was so surprised. The food here is fantastic. The atmosphere is charmingly quaint. The staff are excellent. The BLT here is one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. Their whole menu is solid.
Great place to hangout though mostly crowded..Bar tenders ar great guys..not to pricey.
Nice bar, not too packed, service was really good. I would definitely come back.
Went here for brunch on my bday and my table was served by Rob. He was amazing and so was the entire staff there. The food was so tasty as were the drinks. Give this place a try definitely worth the money.
Me and my girlfriend stopped in for a drink and the lady from the bar was really nice. We are from Scotland and she was new york slash Irish haha but made us feel very welcome in this city. Really cool place
This bar has a fantastic selection of proper ales. I would've liked to try more of them but hedged my bets once I'd found a really nice example served in a large measure 😁 Staff are great and the prices are good too.
Lovely little bar. Great place to escape for a low key drink and late lunch. Food was great. Staff was really nice. We will be back
Awesome beer selection Only had fries - they hit the spot
This place is great for brunch went 2 times was very satisfied. I sat at the bar. Even though it was busy the bartender was on point. I don't know why people would give this place a bad review
Such a nice bar with a great atmosphere and you can bring your dog inside!! This was a great experience with good food and drinks; I can not wait to come back!!
Had a great time in here last night with my partner ! Our server was an Irish girl who was an excellent host ! Looking forward to returning again
Pretty cool place, accommodated my team for a last minute happy hour. Several seating sections throughout
Monk punches above its weight with the food. Highly recommend the mushroom ravioli!
I went for brunch. The drinks were good and the food was tasty! The staff was very lovely. This place had a really nice vibe!
This is undeniably the best bar in TriBeca. Ask for Eddy! For food, check out Boss Tweeds right up the street - AMAZING food and same owner.
Great place for drinks and food. Staff was excellent and very Irish, which is nice for an Irish pub. Would highly recommend it if you are in the Tribeca area!!
The food was absolutely amazing, great atmosphere. The bartender Brian was so friendly and accommodating. I will certainly be back again 👍
Before I go into the details of my experience here, I’ll disclose that I USE to be a bar person years ago(I’ve grown out of it) however if you are a bar person this place is definitely more your speed. I Came here with a friend for the Pacers and Knicks Playoffs game and let me say this place is VERY popular. Upon our arrival we needed ID to get in. This place is your typical bar step up . Tvs, waiters, bar stools , and small tables. However this place gets extremely PACKED , and I’m talking shoulder to shoulder packed. We snagged a seat at the bar , luckily in time before the crowd, and was serviced immediately by the bartenders. The menus are digital which I thought was pretty cool. My friend and I ended up sharing an order of boneless buffalo wings and onion, as the serving sizes were large enough to split . The food was solid! . I wasn’t too in love with the drinks or the drink options. We both ordered a sour drink ( I can’t remember the name but it was whiskey) but I wasn’t impressed at all. There is an outdoor seating area , which is really cool if you’d like to escape the crowd. At one point It became so loud in there but every seemed to be perfectly fine with the volume ( except me lol) Overall solid place for good bar food, to catch a game, or just chill and drink a beer. Highly recommend for a bar type vibe/ bar person
Awesome Irish Bar with above average food. The shepherd's pie was served piping hot and was excellent - huge portion. Love the vibe of this place and music was not too loud - just right.
Great old style bar. The food was great, the tap menu was quite large, and there is plenty of seating. They have lots of TV screens for sports events and some seating outside on the curb.
We love this place! It has the feel of an Irish pub. We had the steak sandwich and it was delicious. I also had a glass of wine which was the perfect complement to my meal. The service was friendly and they were very accommodating.
Amazing service and great escape after a long day at work!!! The entire team (especially Eddie) make this bar feel like home for all of the regulars here, always a reason to keep coming back!! A small critique, the handicap bathroom needs some love. The sink in there looks like it’s hanging on by a thread, and the toilet seat is on the same page. Unfortunately, it’s been like this for months, but hopefully gets updated soon.
Great place! Kale ceasar salad and lobster sandwich were very tasty! Drinks were very good as well! Bartender was friendly and courteous. We went on the recommendation of another bartender at a place we had been to the day before. It was a nice break after walking around NYC for several hours.
My favorite Irish pub in the city. Never too crowded except the after work crowd but any other time pretty quiet. The bartender's are great. I've known the owner for over 20 years and have followed them from the last 2 locations. Food is great and reasonable and the beer is always cold. If you are ever in the Fidi area and need a drink and a place to relax check them out. They also have a sister cocktail bar up the block called Boss Tweed's that is perfect for a date night. Quiet, no TV's, delicious food, great atmosphere.
Stopped in for lunch and a few drinks with a group of 10. Service was good and the food prices were reasonable. Everything tasted great, especially the French fries!
Great venue for a private event. Easily accommodated our 100 people. Good communication before and during the event. Food was great. Staff were friendly and professional. Keep them on a short list for venues in this area for your events!
Good beer selection, staff is fantastic. Stopped by with a party of 4 during a pretty heavy rain. Inside bar looked really crowed so we opted for the covered shed. I was initially sceptical about getting service outside but the wait staff was really, really great.
It was a great experience for my 1st time. The bartender was very nice and helpful. The have a lot of tvs and i was able to watch the game. The food was really good also. I will definitely go back there. There is an upstairs part which i didn't get a chance to see. But the bartenders description of it makes me want to come back and check it out.
Excellent pub with lots of beers on tap and great food. Nice place to lunch. Has TVs to watch sports but sound is not on so you can have conversation with friends. Not a loud place. A really nice Irish pub!
This bar was the best one we visited during our recent trip to New York, food was delicious but more importantly the staff were phenomenal !! So helpful and friendly nothing was a problem defo be back next time we travel to New York. Cocktails were fab too
One of my favorite bars/restaurants in Manhattan. Feels like home. Owners are dog lovers which is beyond nice. Great drinks (try the spicy marg) and literally all the food is amazing.<3
Monk’s is one of the newer bars in the area and it has quickly become a go to for both great beer and food. They have an awesome menu of pub fare staples like pot pies, bangers and mash, etc. They also have a “specials” list that always seems to have something new to try. (The Thai chicken spring rolls are my fave when they’re there!) Pair it with some craft beers, many of which locally brewed. Staff is great, super friendly and the 2 floors means you’ll always be able to find some space with some friends.
If you work downtown, don't read this review. This is my coworkers secret spot for drinks after work. I never understand why this place is usually empty after 5 pm when compared to the other bars in the neighborhood. Then I remember it's next to a strip club, which may be why this bar gets looked over. Great place, good prices, and empty enough that you can be loud and entertain a group of coworkers without feeling packed in. Like I said, if you work downtown, don''t come here; this is our spot.
Great service, good beer selection and the food was excellent. I had the bangers and mash, and my partner had the steak wrap. Both were excellent. Service was attentive and friendly. Highly recommended.
Spent a couple of evenings here as it was close to our hotel. Good selection of drinks. Food was great. Really friendly happy staff. Guinness was perfect. Will go back next time I’m in New York
I was in the neighborhood and popped in for a beer and some lunch--WOW! -what a great place --service-staff-everyone was great and beer was cold--food was fresh, flavorable and well prepared -prices were reasonable..definitely going back.!
I visited this pub during a pub crawl and got to get my pub crawl list signed by the owner! They have a lot of beers on tap, and we were just on the ground floor. I really liked the wood aesthetic and the various objects painted on the walls. I'd definitely come back here again.
Great happy hour spot downtown with an awesome tap menu!
I'm a big fan of this bar. Fairly good drinks, solid food, and generally great service. Cocktails are also surprisingly good for a place that looks like a sports bar. Great place to gather with friends or colleagues, especially on the second floor. Have hosted multiple events here over the years, and plan to continue doing so in the future.
During my recent visit to New York, I had the pleasure of dining here. While the prices were a bit high for what one might consider "bar food," it's important to remember that New York is generally expensive. That being said, the food was absolutely delicious. I had the fish and chips, and I have never tasted a crispier version of this dish. The fish was perfectly cooked, and the chips were golden and crunchy—just the way I like them. The service was exceptional. The staff was attentive and friendly, ensuring that our dining experience was top-notch. Overall, despite the higher prices, I would highly recommend this place. The quality of the food and the superb service make it well worth a visit.
The venue was very accommodating to our large group, food was a step above normal bar staples, it was easy to pay with 4 cards, and the service was excellent. If I could give more stars for service, I would.
Myself, my wife and some friends were in New York for a wedding. We were spending the early afternoon in lower Manhattan and found Monk McGinn's on Google Maps and decided to pay a visit for a quick drink. The bartenders were extremely welcoming and friendly. The service was exceptional and the bar was long enough that all 5 of us could sit together and drink, talk and laugh. We didn't try any of the food, but if I take a trip to NYC again, I will be back and give it a try.
I was there last Wednesday for a friend's wedding reception! Friendly staff, good selection of tap beers and liquor in general with a varied food menu! Will return to try more food items!!🍔
Good bar to hang out after work or anytime. Service is quick and attentive
Only posting here because we heard a customer sitting next to us threaten the bartender with a bad review! I came in with my friend today for drinks and some wings. The gentleman behind the bar was super friendly and was quick with our orders. We sat next to this lady who was upset because apparently we ordered the same wings as her and the server accidentally gave us the order so we started eating. Her food came out a few minutes later. For the inconvenience, the bartender offer her a beer on the house. She accepted and then later claimed he promised a double shot of whiskey and storms out and leaves a bad review. Nonetheless the food and drinks and hospitality were amazing. 5 stars!
It’s the first bar I have been in the United States, and it was the best choice. The food and the drinks are equally spectacular. The atmosphere is very soothing. Definitely recommend.
Very pleasant staff, good food, good drinks
Fun irish pub with great beer selection and happy hour menu. They always have the most important soccer games on! Love this place
Monk McGinns is a fun, lively two-story pub in Tribeca that felt like a perfect spot for drinks and casual dining. The interior has a warm, rustic tavern vibe with exposed brick and high ceilings that make it feel both cozy and energetic. The beer and cocktail selection was great — I tried a few craft drafts and they were smooth and flavorful, perfect for a laid-back night out. The food is solid pub fare with crowd-pleasers like crispy fish and chips, burgers, and wings that paired really well with drinks. Staff were friendly and welcoming, which made the whole experience feel relaxed and fun. It gets busier later in the evening, so it’s a great happy hour or weekend night spot with friends. Overall, if you’re into casual pubs with good drinks, hearty food, and a lively atmosphere, this place is worth checking out.
Fortunate enough to stumble across this gem. Great service! Even better drinks! The Guinness is a must-try!
Came here to watch the Dolphins vs Bills game. Other games were being shown too. Food and drinks were good.
I stopped in at Monk McGinn’s and tried their house draft IPA — and it did not disappoint. The beer has a smooth, creamy mouthfeel with a balanced bitterness that isn’t overwhelming. Brewed with Mosaic, Falconer’s Flight, and Citra hops, it has a nice hop-forward flavor that’s soft around the edges. Definitely a solid choice if you’re into IPAs. The pub itself has a warm, lively atmosphere with friendly staff and a good range of draft options. Prices are a little on the higher side compared to other spots in the area, but the quality and vibe make up for it. Overall, a great place for a pint in Tribeca — especially if you’re looking to enjoy a well-made IPA in a fun setting.
A great little Irish bar with great bar food. The bartenders were top-notch and made some delicious cocktails for us. A good, diverse crowd and great music. TVs for watching sports, but don’t expect sound on.
It is a nice place to hangout with friends. Amazing foood I must say and drinks as well. Totally worth the money you spend and its not too much as well given the location. We were there on a Knicks game night so not sure if they usually play music or not, would have been better if there was music. But still I would give them a 5 stars for everything.
casual & cozy bar w good vibes 🤠we got a table for like 15 on a monday evening & it wasn’t too crowded. came back on a thursday and it was BUSTLING extensive beer menu & solid cocktails (really liked the penicillin especially ) a couple of beers, wines and well drinks on happy hour menu 4-8p
I'm so happy I found Monk McGinns during my day in the Financial District. It's the perfect "escape" from the hustle and bustle in and around the World Trade Center. Located on Murray Street, Monk McGinns is a pretty big bar with outdoor seating AND an upstairs. It also appears they host private events too. Finally, I was impressed with their menu! It provides a nice mix of American and Irish fare.
While on holiday, we popped in for a quick drink at 1.30pm on a Thursday, got a seat at the bar and did not leave until 6.30pm.... the landlady was lovely, friendly and so helpful. We spent a very pleasant afternoon talking with and getting to know some lovely and very helpful patrons. The food is nothing like "pub grub" you get back home, it was very fresh and there's a great selection.
An impressive list of cocktails, good service, and complimentary selection of bites. I was there mostly for drinks but decided to order the boneless chicken wings and surprisingly it was probably the best I’ve ever. So tender and juicy and the Buffalo sauce was on point. The onion rings had a perfect crunch with sweet onions embedded. An elevation of common bar food. Good job. They also had tv outside to watch sports which is a nice addition. Will definitely be back.
Went here for dinner and had the steak and fish & chips. Both meals were excellent, the wait staff was attentive, and they have an varitiable catalog of beers on tap. They have put their menus on tablets so you can scroll through high resolution photos of each dish while you figure out what you are going to order.
Solid bar to grab some beers/drinks and a bite to eat. Can be crowded after work but service is generally pretty good. Also, their outdoor seating is nice
Came here with three other girlfriends because we bought 2 pulsd deals at $39/each. "Your $39 Brunch For Two (a $98 Value) Includes: 2 Entrees (up to a $22 value each). 90 Minutes of Unlimited Cocktails including Bloody Marys, Mimosas, Peachy Bellinis, French 75s, Aperol Spritzers, and Tipsy Punch Teapots for 2 (a $27 value each). Tax & tip not included. We recommend tipping on the full value of the service." My friend who bought the pulsd deals made a reservation for the four of us at 2pm on a Saturday afternoon. When we arrived, the place was maybe half full. The crowd was mainly 20-30ish year olds enjoying brunch with friends. The brunch menu had entrees no more than $22, so we basically could choose anything from the brunch menu (cannot pick from their regular menu). I got the breakfast burger because it sounded filling and I was super hungry not haven eaten anything all day in preparation for this. I got my burger medium rare and egg sunny side up. The burger was definitely sizable and filled me up pretty much for the rest of the day. For the drinks, I started with a bloody mary, which was a lighter bloody than the ones I've had before. It was still good, I tasted the vodka. Feeling more sweet, I stuck to mimosas for the rest of brunch. To end, our table ordered the Tipsy Punch Teapot because we were curious to see what it is. Our tea cups came with ice and a slice of orange. The tea pot had the punch in it along with ice to keep the beverage chilled. It was pretty adorable, kind of like a fun twist on afternoon tea. Because taxes and tips were not included in the pulsd deal, we ended up paying about $12 additional per person. So the total cost of brunch was around $32/person with bottomless drinks. A reasonable deal if you're able to down several drinks imo.
This place used to be called The Cricketers Arms. It was supposed to be an English place and now Irish? I don't know what the deal is. Could still be the same owner. They had Irish breakfast before. I mean I like coming here. It's spacious. I like the atmosphere and British rock. Sometimes the strip dancers from next door drop by.
Great Brunch drinks and many options. Staff could be nicer and more welcoming to people of various ethnicities especially being in NYC where the city is full of different races. My group felt the stares and saw the difference on the treatment.
Downtown Manhattan isn't exactly known for its night life, but Monks is a place that my coworkers and I have frequented for quite a while for a number of reasons, and not just because of the convenience (although it helps). From good cocktails and tasty food to service that has always been with a smile, this bar has always found a way to make it our easy go to. They don't revolutionize the game in anyway, but everything they do, they do well and that's what really matters. Another big plus is that they two floors worth of space, so if you happen to find yourself in a particularly crowded happy hour, you can always shift around.
Monk McGinns is a decent bar with a lot of space in this area. They have an outdoor space in the summertime which can be nice for small parties. Their beer menu is pretty extensive, both on tap beers and bottles, so this is a prime reason to visit. The staff are good and the prices are good as well.
We went there for an after work gathering. We had appetizers. The servers were prompt and friendly. Food was quality, but I thought some of the prices for meals were pricey for a bar. Just my opinion. The food may be higher quality. The overall atmosphere was pleasant. I will try to return and update as needed. UPDATE- Had another work outing there. It has become our go-to spot. The server was friendly and attentive. I still think the prices are a bit high for food but not outrageous.
Been here for many a work happy hour. Honestly I think it's time we change up the spot. But the food here is good, drinks are decent. I always just get a Guinness or High Noon, though. Sometimes change is necessary, but in some cases - it's just right.
It was a pretty cool sports bar and I haven't got the opportunity to try their food yet. But I was disappointed that after spending over $150-200 worth of drinks...after 10-15 min closing, they could of let me use the restroom real quick before I hit upstate. I even asked politely and immediately said no without hesitation. Next time do better otherwise I would give you 5 stars
Decent spot with some good food and drinks. I got a burger, which was pretty good, as well as a cocktail which was pretty solid as well. Definitely a popular spot, the place was packed when we were there. Nothing was particularly mindblowing from a quality standpoint, but everything quite good!
Stopped in for brunch one Sunday, just before noon with a Pulsd brunch deal. The deal was for two entrees, and 90 minutes of unlimited drinks. Other than your typical mimosas, and bloody marys, you can also choose from French 75s, and aperol spritzs, which I really appreciated. I had the French 75. The first one was good but after that, it it tasted a bit funky (maybe they switched champagnes?). For food, my friend and I decided to order the burger and the Irish breakfast, and go halfsies since we wanted to try both. Both were good, no complaints. It's definitely above average and a lot better-tasting than other restaurants with similar brunch deals. I also really liked that they were decked out for Christmas already. It gave the place a nice, homey feel. It didn't even feel like we were dining at a pub. I'd definitely come back for another brunch - hopefully before Christmas so that I can admire the decorations a bit more.
It's really nice. Don't get me wrong. Food and drinks are slightly overpriced (even for Manhattan) and service is a little slow. Like pick a lane. Either be slightly overpriced and have impeccable service or vice versa.
Great bartender. Don't go here to watch a Knicks game. Turned it off with 5 minutes to go against the Nuggets in favor of Duke v Tennessee on all 27 TVs.
Friendly personnel, nice vibe, unfortunately not so good food. Fries were not fresh but heated up: soft and tasteless. Stew with mashed potatoes: mashed potatoes where good but the stew only minced meat, no veggies to be found, despite it was mentioned on the menu. A shame, it could have been so nice if only the food would be more fresh and better quality.
Restaurant does not allow children. Manager is incredibly unprofessional and shouldn’t have a client facing role.
I arrived, sat at the bar and ordered my food. My food was served to two people sitting next to me......they arrived 15 minutes after I did. The staff did not notice that these persons, who never ordered what I did, were eating my food. And when I brought it to their attention and the bartender realized his error (after gaslighting me into saying I ordered something different) he put in another order. He came back to me and offered me another round of cocktails. I accepted. He comes back and says we will only give you a beer. Now, Sir. I declined.
Was lost in NYC and looking for a bathroom. Saw the Irish flag and was excited! Ordered 2 beers 2 shots paid $50 and never been treated so bad in my life. It was pretty obvious they wanted us gone. Maybe next time be kinder to people passing through- we would have stayed and ordered food because the beer was great.
Got Ripped off! Was here last night & asked the bartender what they recommend for a dry-non fruity red wine (we wanted something basic). She recommended the merlot which we tried and liked. Unknown to us was that EACH glass was $30 & the most expensive wine on their menu. I guess we were naive to not double check the price but I’ve never had a waitress be so cut throat & recommend the most expensive menu item! By having our guard down we got scammed into buying the priciest wine on their menu. Luckily we only had 4 glasses, but either way the bill was huge for what we got. Overall We feel conned, duped & disrespected. For anybody planning to dine here - make sure you don’t take any recommendations from the staff. (I’m a born & raised Tribeca / Soho resident that has lived all across America & in Europe - I have never given a 1 star review ever before)
Buyer beware - they consistently overcharge for top shelf liquor, even when you specifically do not ask for it. They take advantage of their clientele and assume you will not check your receipt. This has happened on multiple occasions. If you try to question the charge, expect to be met with rudeness and unprofessional behavior, even threatening to contact the police! Very unsettling.
