Som Bo Albee Square Reviews
Great fast counter serve Asian bowl restaurant. Reasonably priced and delicious. Great vegetarian options.
I love this place PLEASE bring back the Black rice, brown rice dont hit the same.
I had been sleeping on this place- but now I’m a regular. It is SO fresh and tasty. I get the salmon, charred brussel sprouts, and mushrooms- it’s always delicious. The people who work here are also so friendly and accommodating. Definitely give them a try!
Wow! Had to grab a quick lunch so I picked up a lemongrass chicken and brown rice bowl with Sichuan cucumbers and curry lentils. Paired that with their hibiscus lychee iced tea. Everything was super fresh and flavorful; I ate every last bite. Thoroughly impressed and would definitely visit again.
I'm a big fan of this place. Hearty, filling meals, and you can be as healthy as you want. Service is generally pretty good. I recommend you see what vegetables/add-ons are fresh/hot before picking just in case something doesn't look the most appetizing. If you want an "assembled" meal/bowl, I'll go here before Chipotle 100% of the time.
Great portions, healthy and tasty food. Great price!! Would have been nice if the staff became more friendly. Probably get paid terribly. But I still recommend it. Just ignore their service it's fine.
Food is really delicious and fresh. Baby bok choy is straight up amazing. Cooked perfectly and flavorful. Lemongrass chicken and steak were both on point. Lychee Hibiscus Tea is a 10/10
Fabulous corporate catering option! Ordered directly from the site and they arrived perfectly on time at the start of the arrival window. Food was delicious and all present loved it - we ordered the medium catering package with the brussels sprouts, kimchi kale, edamame slaw, broccoli, sweet potato noodles, black rice, grilled tofu, and lemongrass chicken - with chimichurri and korean chili aioli as sauces - which was a great fit for a group of 15-17 (with yummy leftovers as this package targets 20 pax). All of it was legitimately fantastic and well packaged. Will order again for corporate needs! Thank you!
I discovered this restaurant via To Good To Go, and I am thrilled I did! The sweet potato noodles make a terrific base for roasted pork and veggies. The purple rice is also a great base. The flavors in the roasted veggies were terrific. No extra sauce needed.
Som Bo is my go-to spot for Thai food. The quality of ingredients and the depth of flavor in their dishes are unbeatable. The staff is attentive, and the ambiance is inviting. Whether you're a Thai cuisine enthusiast or a first-timer, this restaurant is a must-try!
The food is super tasty and fast! I love the simple and easy to follow menu here. This place is good for vegetarians, vegans and carnivores alike. Lots of healthy options. Highly recommend the sweet potatoes and Brussels sprouts. I also love their miso kale salad. Fun atmosphere with good music. They also have a rewards card so you can earn your way to a free bowl!
I have walked past this new location dozens of times and wondered about how the food here but never walked in until recently. So glad I did. I had a first impression this was more of a fast food joint. Boy was I wrong. All the choices looked enticing. I settled on cod on farro bowl. All of the side options looked great and tasted wonderful together, especially the spicier varieties. I marked this on the map as one of my go-to favorites for fast, fresh and hearty on-the-go meals.
Great delicious food, their proteins and veggies are all wonderfully yummy. The folks that work there are also friendly and welcoming.
Tried to Vietnamese chicken bowl and it really hit the spot. Very generous portions, enough to fill you up for dinner through to brunch the next day. The chicken was cooked to perfection and you get served about half an entire chicken! The rice was perfectly cooked too. I will note that it's a tad bit oily, so something to keep in mind. Flavours were on point. The staff were very professional and friendly. In and out within 2 minutes, that's fast food for you.
First time at Som Bo, had the roasted chili lime chicken with sweet potato noodles. Pleasantly surprised! The chicken was flavorful, and the noodles were unique.
The options for healthy eating are great, pretty clean area and super accessible price! I had an entire meals with of food for about 11 dollars and it tasted pretty good too. Great for me who was traveling on a budget but wanted some healthy options !
Great food that's fast and easy. They also change their menu seasonally. If you're craving a convenient yet tasty Cantonese meal in the Chelsea area this is the way to go. I especially love their vegetable options, brussels sprouts being the best for me!
Had an amazing takeaway experience at Som Bo. The food was delicious, especially the roasted chili lime chicken, and the portions were huge. The staff was incredibly patient as I decided on my toppings.
Woah! 😳🔥Walked in blind so I didn’t really know what to expect and wow…I was blown away! I went with the sweet potato noodles, kale, B-sprouts and the lime chili chicken. PACKED with flavor and at great portions! I WILL be back…like really soon hahaha
The woman behind the counter answered to all of my questions, what was the most popular and also suggested what to try. I tried the roasted Brussel sprouts and eggs and tomatoes. The variety of options this place offers and the portions are so satisfying! will come back soon.
Excellent takeaway dinner or lunch! Many delicious gluten-free and vegetarian options, the lemongrass chicken was both tender and tasty, and there was so much food, the cashier had to staple the lid on, LOL. Seriously, so many toppings, I had to really work to get to the brown rice and salad. Very reasonably priced. Great service too; I appreciate your patience as I pondered all the options. I wish we had a Som Bo in Vancouver, BC. You should open one there - you’d do really well!
The foods here is amazing, delicious but also healthy. Even the drinks are healthy and tasty. Services here at som bo is also great, the staffs are very friendly and pretty. If you are looking for a place to have a healthy but also tasty meal with great location and very convenience to walk around, I really recommended this place! 10/10
Loved my lunch at Som Bo! The roasted chili lime chicken was flavorful, and the portion was huge – almost couldn't close the box. The variety of toppings is impressive. Great value for money and friendly staff. Wish there was one in Seattle!
Food is cheap and good! And staff are friendly. Surprised to find big bowls of food, TASTY food, for less than $12. Hard to come by nowadays, especially in Manhattan. Everything is flavorful, you don't even need the sauces.
I order from them often; healthy and great tasting with many options and add-ons, all at affordable prices. This outlet is fast.
Nice chipotle style food for Asian fusion. I like their sticky purple rice. Their flavor is there. I could easily taste garlic all over. Their sides are good as well. I tried the roasted Brussel sprouts and eggs and tomatoes. They have so many options. Their sauces are also legit. They have a house made chili oil. With that said - their 5 spice pork could be more tender. Portion sizes could be larger as well (bowl is kinda small). But you can definitely get full if you eat rice or peanut noodles. You probably won't get full if you get salad and some sides lol.
Great lunch options! People here really allreaciate you as a customer. Great personnel!
Som Bo does an excellent job of proving that one does not need meat to produce and excellent dining experience. Every choice available guides your mouth on a journey that reconnects one to nature through the creative use of different of vegetables and whole grains . The chef has harnessed the hidden properties of vegetables to guide patrons through a primal food journey. I start with deep fried brussel sprouts to experience a crispy element, I follow with tofu for a creamy relief, I reach for my base of extra chewy ancient black rice, and finish my journey with cucumbers that refresh my palette before, I dive in and do it all over again.
Quick, delicious, and very vegetarian friendly. Expect efficient counter service in a clean environment.
Always a reliable stop for a quick meal! Love the flavors and service speed.
Quick, easy, and healthy. There are so many excellent choices you’ll want to come back to try them all. I really love this for a light dinner one evening when everything else was too crowded. The guys behind the counter was super fun and friendly and helpful. Great vibe - Will definitely come back for more.
Wow! I can't believe how delicious this was, and how reasonably priced for the quality! I got the miso salmon with szechuan cucumbers and edamame slaw, everything was so tasty! The sauces as well. This place is truly delicious.
Wide V and GF selection. Fresh and tasty. Nice atmosphere. You build you meal, first select a base, then two additions, main course and toppings as you convenienty move between stations. Selections are conveniently displayed at each and every station clearly marked as V or GF or none. The end result is nice.
This little glassy bright restaurant Som Bo is one of my only true favorites left in New York. Asian-inspired protein bowl menu. Surprisingly good prices and not oily crap. Freshly cut steak bowl with two sides and rice only $15.50. Prices are such that they end up even with tax. Water available and plenty of seating. They have a delightful tomato-egg side dish and all the veggies are good. Not trying too hard. This was a favorite during Covid for me also. I hope it’ll stay in business. It’s a one-off.
Loved it! Finally there's an authentic Chinese style light bowl fast food place--- the tomato fried egg made me feel like a very casual and hearty home dinner in China. I'll defnitely come back.
This place is a great Asian spot! 🍜 Som Bo serves a wonderful variety of delicious 🤤 rice 🍚 or noodle bowls, sides, and drinks! 🥤 Definitely get the Lemongrass 🍋 Chicken 🐔 Bowl with Broccoli 🥦 and Bok Choy 🥬 and Sweet Potato 🍠 Noodles with Garlic 🧄 Soy, Charred ♨️ Brussels Sprouts 🌾, and Tofu. Delivery 🛵 is fast ⏩ and the packaging 📦 is great! I wish I knew about this place earlier!
This is my first time there. I had the noodles with the rice and chicken. That sauce! Wow! 😲 It was really flavourful ... I will say, it is scrumptious to say the least. Cooked to perfection and fresh. Customer service was awesome .The woman behind the counter answered to all of my questions, what was the most popular and also suggested what to try. She gave me plenty and my belly was full. I look forward to going there this week.. I work right up the street.
Sooooo good. I saw the good reviews and I thought it was going to be too good to be true but I inhaled my bowl it was that tasty. I ordered the grilled tofu bowl with baby bok choy, Brussels sprouts and black rice. I loved all of it. I especially loved the baby bok choy and am very happy I decided to try the black rice because it was lovely. I highly recommend. I got the ginger sesame sauce and didn’t even use it. I also got the Korean chili aioli which was fabulous.
This was impeccable. As someone who is of Asian descent but brought up in the west this was the perfect combination of flavours and truly some of the best fusion I’ve ever had. The variety of options this place offers and the portions are so satisfying!! The unique original touches like the edamame hummus were complete bliss. And I don’t think I’ve ever had such good and traditional tasting tomato and egg from a restaurant , and from a fusion place especially. Service was also gorgeous. I’m enamoured. Will be back
4/12/2023, Wed. I picked up and took out a brown rice, vegetable, dish from Som Bo located on 8th Ave and 17th Street in Chelsea in NYC. It was a very large portion size, and the selection and other options are very healthy with protein, different whole grain and vegetable, and sauce options, and the store was very organized and had a nice decor inside.
I found a new favorite lunch spot by my office. Think of an Asian fusion version of chipotle. The food is so fresh and I love the flexibility of building your own. I went with the grilled steak bowl with sweet potato noodles, charred Brussels sprouts, sweet potatoes (did I mention I like sweet potatoes) , and a garlic soy sauce. It was incredible and I will be back soon!
Quick, healthy and delicious - it’s like an asian inspired Dig Inn. Loving their new summer items including the corn and summer squash side; and the yuzu lemonade. The cod I ordered is delicious and cooked perfectly. The sides and bases are so well seasoned you don’t even need sauces. Line moves quickly. Will definitely be back to try the other items soon
Great food. I like the beef here alot. The restaurant is very clean and for me a first time guest the staff was very helpful and educated me on the different choices of bowls they have. It was a great experience and i recommend to anybody looking for a quick bite on the healthy side.
Great service. Love the food. I am currently stuck on the salmon but I've tried the steak and its not really to my taste but 'to each his own.' I don't usually get a starch base but the rice isn't too bad and the sweet potato noodles taste good.
Pretty good selection of sides and proteins. Place was clean and staff was friendly. I got the steak which is more expensive than most of the other options but got a lot less than my girlfriend who ordered pork. I understand its steak but the difference was quite big which kinda threw me off. It's a decent sized bowl but they definitely dont try to fill it up so I did leave hungry. For the price they're charging it's really more worth to just go to Chipotle.
Good options and flavours for the price. Vegan options! I went in the late afternoon and the vibe was dry but maybe it was just the time.
Another solid create your own grain/salad bowl eatery. I go about once a week. Portions are generous and I like that the sauces are self serve so you can put as much or as little to taste. This place is a great healthy and hearty lunch option in the area.
My work had this catered in the office and it was very good! Typically I am underwelmed when catered as the food is not as fresh as I like (just a personal preference) but this was very good! We had a good selection: Noodles, Brown Rice, Brussles, Sweet Potato, Corn mixture, Broc, Salmon, Pork, Beef and Tofu. The sauces are amazing too I will for sure be visiting to have it again! Glad I found this place!
Customer service is terrible, but I keep coming back because those darn brussels sprouts are so delicious!
The food is good but the customer service is bad they are rude and have attitudes I would never go back there again because of how I was treated when trying to purchase food
Really good food. The ambience had a fun 90s flare to it. The staff member who rang me up was nice but the one who served my food was grumpy. One suggestion would be for the server to mix your food / it’s hard to eat in the bowl! Overall it’s a great place to eat
I had visited this restaurant last week with a friend of mine and very much enjoyed the vast menu options and decided to try out the 5 spiced pork which came out amazing! The only complaint that I had with my experience is that the night time manager at the time was very rude and brutish to the other employees and even some of the patrons making me feel kind of uncomfortable at the growing tension in the area. But other than that the food was amazing and the service was very quick. I will definitely be back for lunch at some point in the future!
Pretty good place. Appreciate the seasonal menu too. Slightly dirty with food scraps on the table and floor considering it was a very quiet Sunday. While the choice to create your bowl from scratch may be fun and offer flexibility, the combined flavors don't fully come together. Sauce selection is also unnecessary given that each item is fully seasoned and has a tendency to not pair well. Similar to other fast and fresh food establishments, it may be worthwhile for the menu to have pre-made bowl section so that first-time customers can familiarize the menu.
Food was pretty good. Biggest complaint is the temperature of food is not hot enough despite eating in and having it served on the spot. It would have been much tastier if it was hot! They had some cool sauces to try. Steak was better than lemongrass chicken. Otherwise delicious for the price.
Almost closing time, 945pm on a Sunday night and wanted a light snack in NYC. Came upon this nondescript place on a corner in Chelsea and was pleasantly surprised. Asian-ish, well prepared vegetable sides with very good grilled protein that may have been flank steak. Very flavorful, fresh, crisp vegetables, steak medium, not tough, but toothsome. All preparations were well seasoned. Carlos, behind the counter was professional and courteous, asking if we had any food allergies. Wow, the new New York City, this could work.
Not bad! For the price the bowl and the portions are generous. The selection of items is also diverse and offers option for everyone. Admittedly, the food is only mediocre and the service is a touch below that, but for what you are paying this place is worth the price. Not everything needs to be a crazy culinary experience, sometimes you just need some veggies and beef that’s already cooked and ready! This place would DRASTICALLY improve with a focus on not over prepping the food— it can be inconsistent and is blatantly obvious when you’re getting the fresh stuff or the stuff that’s been sitting out all day. That, and a little reminder on hospitality, no one’s rude but they definitely aren’t excited to have people walking in the door.
This place is a hit or miss. I don’t get the tofu anymore because they don’t heat it to order (they used to) so now they give you a wet soggy cold mess. It made my stomach hurt. I work next to this spot me and all my co workers used to be regulars and stopped going because it was always a gamble if it was going to be good that day or not. I’ll go back because they they get it right it’s so good hopefully they start to be consistent like they used to be.
Simple, small menu and the bowls are freshly prepared and taste great. They raised their prices within the last couple months and so I stopped going (a chicken bowl here is twice the price of Chipotle). The seating is cramped and it can often be hard to squeeze between the tables. Free fruit-infused water is a bonus though, but for $11-13, it should come with a side or a drink. Co-worker felt the same -- loved the food but won't return based on price. Great concept though.
i’ve been here 4 times, and 3/4 experiences were delightful, although the food is pricy, it’s always delicious, and they provide a large portion size for your buck. i had leftovers to take home, even. however, my 4th time coming here, i was underwhelmed. the server barely gave me 1/3 of the usual portion sizing of noodles, and maybe 1/2 of their typical portion of steak and assorted sides. i left lunch starving and out $13. passing again i noticed that other people seemed to have a much bigger portion size than i was given, so i don’t understand why i was given so little :/
A lot of veggies to choose from, well-grilled and salted just enough. Minus two stars because 1. the guy who served the bowl was at first holding it the way that his finger was touching the food and then he just pressed the greens with another hand (!) so they could fit in. 2. the floor around tables was oily and slippery. Not cool.
Had lunch today here, overall quite reasonable with the price. One thing we encountered today was that the server kept telling us "pls don't have your hands over the glass" that separate the food and the customers. We thought he was talking about we touching the glass as we didn't but the tone of the server was cold and mean. After a few times saying that I was quite upset though understood his point. I told him they should have put a sign or note on the glass if they don't want customer using their hands to show the server of the choices. By the way the glass had a lot of fingerprints that you wouldn't want to touch it anyway.
The food is always great when I go. The customer service could be hugely improve though. No greeting, they looked misery working there, no excitement with the team. Also apart of poor customer service is when a member deliberately put a spoiled avocado onto your bowl with giving it numerous looks knowing all well that the avocado is not good to use. Then look at me as if they didn’t see me see them do it. Then when I ask to get a better quality of avocado, I am received with an attitude as if she didn’t want to do it. I don’t like buying food with attitude.
Bok choy and rice were good. Salmon didn’t taste right. The crust was fatty and tasted sweet. Also the brussel sprouts look burnt.
I ordered the Steak and Brussels sprouts bowl, and baby bok choy on the side. It was not a bad meal, but the steak was chewy and a bit tough. The veggies on the other hand tasted much better, well seasoned. The baby bok choy had a lemon garlic dressing that went pretty well with the steak.
Went here one night and it was alright. The place wasn't very clean, almost all the tables needed to be wiped down. The rice in my bowl was very noticeably undercooked and tasted undercooked. I was crunching and chewing every bite because of rice! The zucchini and mushroom addition was maybe a little overcooked - slightly charred tasting. You can see in my picture how dark it is. Corn also tasted slightly charred. Salmon was perfect though! Overall the food was very flavorful and I hope if If I decide to eat here again that the food will be prepared properly.
Stopped by to grab dinner to go. I got half black rice/half sweet potato noodles, beets, cucumbers and grilled lemongrass chicken. The warm sides didn’t look that fresh or appetizing so decided to get two cold sides. I also got the edamame hummus with wonton chips. But everything just tasted greasy and lacked flavor (aside from the chicken), even the two sauces that you can pick were so oily.
Interesting concept of healthy and tasty bowls but each component of the food was poorly executed (some too fried, some weirdly spiced, some bland). Service was rushed and confusing despite it not being busy.
The food tastes great and there are a lot of options. Not many places with that kind of combo. I end up coming here at least once a week when I need a quick dinner. However, for a place that closes at 10:30pm, they start running out of basics as early as 8:30pm. I can understand running out of certain meats (last salmon is always gone by 9:00pm) but even their base (potato noodles, black rice) start to go by 8:30pm. Aren't those easy to make?
Don't recommend this place. The sweet potato noodles were greasy, and the chili lime chicken was as tough as eating thick cardboard. Staff was nice though
I really used to like this place but every time I order takeout I get the most burnt and unevenly cooked veggies. Brussels sprouts literally burnt to a crisp. Some of the broccoli was raw while the other half was mush. I order at around 7pm and it tastes like it’s been sitting out all day.
I ordered via GrubHub and they not only forgot the beverage that goes along with it they didn't even send any utensils and I'm visiting guest from out of town that tried their food. The food was okay but it wasn't phenomenal. Just be aware if you're ordering GrubHub that they don't send flatware or napkins or anything.
Great food but the worst service I've ever had in years. So unprofessional.
I usually don't review takeout orders, but this was pretty bad. They crammed my double protein and extra side order into a normal side container, so it was spilling all over the place when it arrived. The food had very little flavor and the chicken was undercooked to the point of being pink. Will not be returning. This is the ultimate slop bowl - just a ton of ingredients thrown together with little care or thought.
Had the chili lime chicken. Was disgustingly bad - boiled, hard, inedible. Same goes for the brussel sprouts - over baked yet soft like it was a day or two old. Couldn't finish the food, would have returned it if I ate in. The kale was fine.
I was greeted by a server named Juan. Very poor service give me an attitude at the front when I was paying when I asked him for a sauce on the side
Oh boy was this a let down, I am in no way a restaurant reviewer. But this was just sad, the food was cold and bland and very visually unappetizing. Just look at my food compared to their advertising on their website, my baked garlic chicken looks and taste like it came out of a bag and was microwaved. Now I did walk in an hr befor they was schedule to close, but the quality of food shouldn't be this bad.
