Squires Diner Albee Square Reviews
The flavors will convince you to become a regular. The menu shows culinary imagination. Employees provide attentive assistance. The restaurant balances comfort and style. This restaurant presents clear value.
By far the most relaxing and cheapest diner experience I’ve had in NYC so far (been here ten years). I got a nice breakfast with a window seat. Place is lively, cheerful, but not too loud. Wait staff is kind and attentive and food is great without hurting the wallet. I love this diner.
Great experience overall, good food, nice service and average prices
Grounded diner with awesome service. Recommending the Ruben, massive portion.
Great food, selection, and service was fast. Highly recommend!
Perfect diner. Wouldn’t change a thing. Solid tuna salad and my 7 year old called his grilled cheese the best he’s ever had. He is prone to hyperbole but really no complaints.
Fantastic local diner, visited twice during our stay for breakfast. Good service, nice cosy atmosphere and really impressive prices for the location. Will definitely be back again on our return to NYC.
It's a great, small, independent "Mom and Pop" Diner. Most of the regulars, like myself live nearby or in Chinatown as I do. But, a number of tourists go there too and they seem to enjoy the food. The prices have always been reasonable and the staff especially Frank, the Manager treat you like family.😊
I suggest this place. I ate a big waffle and drunk a very good orange juice. Considering was my first time in the U.S. I thought there were no cheaper places, but this diner with the prices was very ok. The staff were really kind, professional and welcoming.
Honestly a really great diner. Went two days in a row. Open early, always a seat available and the service was outstanding. Drinks and water within 30 seconds of sitting down. Will 💯 go back
I live outside of the US most of the year but whenever I come back to visit family and friends I always drop by Squires for there Lumberjack breakfast set. Their food is good, the restaurant is clean and most importantly servers are very nice and provide great service. And menu prices are quite reasonable too.
This is our neighborhood diner for lunches and dinners. Highlight: Open faced turkey sandwiches thanks to Meal Pal. What we ordered last night: Lasagna. The lasagna is a bit unconventional. As if it’s assembled for the order. The ground beef is browned and layered on the bottom, middle layer is a thick layer of ricotta cheese, the top layer is the sauce and melted cheese. It’s not lasagna in the way of many layers of pasta, but unlike pizza parlor lasagnas we’ve tried, this lasagna isn’t overly salty. It also comes with a side of carrots and soup. Veal Parmigiana on linguine. Large filet of breaded veal smothered in tomato sauce and cheese. Perfect. Filling. Classic diner style portions. Simple yet tasty.
One of our favorite breakfast addresses during our one week stay end of may. It's actually a typical diner but luckily a bit hidden in the second row from a main street. Apparently also well known from a lot workers and local people who either collect their food or eating there as well. We tried different breakfasts and all of them were delicious and the portion more than sufficient. The staff is very friendly and the location is also nice and clean (although it's not ultramodern, which we don't care). We will come again during our next NY-trip.
The best place to eat in New York . Jose was amazing person who received us at the door with good attentions , we have been in other restaurants and this is the first place that make us feel comfortable and happy to come back again and again. We really recommend Squire”s Diner Nice staff NICE PLACE!!!! Delicious Breakfast!!
Great diner, a little out the way but helps in that you get a seat quickly + great food
Great spot, great service, great food, owner is really nice and welcoming. Loved coming in from the cold for a bite to eat and a warm drink. :)
Great Food! Great Service! Highly Recommend the Disco Fries!!

great food and very nice staff, rare to find a diner this authentic and welcoming
Squire's Diner is a charming eatery in New York that has become one of our go-to spots for a satisfying breakfast while visiting the city. From the moment you step into Squire's Diner, you are greeted by a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The staff is not only friendly but also genuinely helpful, ensuring that you are well taken care of throughout your visit. This diner has found a perfect balance between quality food and reasonable prices, making it a must-try for anyone in search of a delicious and affordable morning meal.
There's like 500 items on this Squires diner menu. As mostly known for its breakfast, I kept my expectations low, was not disappointed - maybe even a little impressed, given the location and diner decor. For starters, that banana milkshake would NEVER have made it through that tiny soda straw, what were they thinking. The chicken soup matched Denny's, so there's your bar. The grilled sole far exceeded my expectations - fresh and well-cooked. The baked potato wasn't double-baked, but sure single-baked really well enough to soak up the usual, and the mixed veggies (to soothe my conscience after aforementioned milkshake) reflected the "recently-defrosted from a very large bag" quality. The Athenia panini ended up well below par, lacking taste - best try elsewhere for your Mediterranean cuisine fill. Update Apri 2025: Returned for Breakfast after 2 years, and totally impressed with their consistency - great food for a great price, breakfast highly recommended.
Been coming here for more than 7 years!!! ALWAYS amazing food, friendly staff and family owned business. Our favorite neighborhood restuarant
Whether dining in or ordering delivery, we can always depend on Squire’s for delicious meals. We love the variety of dishes and prices are always reasonable. The level of service is the best.
I LOVE SQUIRE'S. This was my spot in undergrad and I adore going their food is fantastic with great prices and the service is spectacular.
Friendly staff & great customer service. The hamburgers were amazing. They have a little bit of everything. This is our first pit stop when we arrive to NYC for late dinners.
The food is delicious and the staff they are so amazing and very welcoming the people that work in the front counter they are so welcoming definitely recommend this place for any meal they are amazing
I love this neighborhood diner. I go there every time for breakfast when I visit NYC. It gives me the feeling of that this would be my spot if I lived in NYC, but away from the fast pace.
I have trouble finding tasty places for breakfast in the downtown area but this one is a winner! Service is definitely a 10! Great people who make you feel special, food is served very quickly and the taste is amazing. I was in a hurry and it was busy, but still I received great service and very yummy food! It is tricky to ser from the street but it is right behind the Market on Cliff St.
Came 2 times and didn't disappointed both of times. Very good food, large quantities and very nice staff. Price is in general less than 20$ a person so for a nice breakfast and lunch that last a Good amount of times it's worth it!
We went in as a group of 7, the team at squires quickly got us seated. I’ll be honest, the restaurant from the outside doesn’t look much, however the food was bloody brilliant! Do not be put off by first impressions. We had a group ranging from 6 to 70, all catered for, massive portions and very reasonable prices 😬. Very clean and tidy throughout We would go again 🙌🏻.
One of Fidi's hidden gems. A classic NY diner with a great staff, generous food portions, diverse menu, at reasonable prices. Apparenttly, the secrets out as the joint was super packed today.
Absolutely brilliant experience at Squire’s Diner!! We visited two weeks ago and this place completely exceeded our expectations — it didn’t disappoint in the slightest! Ambience: From the moment we walked in, it just felt like the right place to be. The atmosphere is so warm and welcoming, with lovely music playing at exactly the right volume — you can have a proper conversation without shouting. Service: Spot-on from start to finish. Quick, attentive, and friendly without being over the top. Everything arrived promptly and exactly as ordered. Note for Coffee lovers - you get unlimited refills! Food: Mind-blowing! We went for the breakfast tacos, Philly cheesesteak, and corned beef, and every single dish was outstanding. It’s clever fusion cooking — bold, creative flavours that really work together. The food is the real deal: worth every penny because of the exceptional quality and incredible taste, not just for fancy presentation (though it still looked great!). Each bite was packed with flavour. If you’re looking for a diner that nails the classics with great settings and top-notch service - this is the place. Highly recommended! ❤️
This place is a special memory for me from my visit to NYC in Dec 2025. I was looking forward to a traditional American diner and this place was perfect. Casual, traditional booths and decor, extensive menu with soo many options to choose from, complimentary black coffee and EXCELLENT customer service. All staff were super friendly and helpful :) Oh also the prices are very reasonable, thank goodness. As a bonus the music was comfortable to listen to, good playlist and not too loud. Loved this place so much and would recommend it to anyone looking for a traditional diner in NYC :)
Had one of the best breakfasts of my NYC trip here. I was served by a very friendly guy and he got me Breakfast tacos. They were perfect and the waffle fries served on the side were delicious.
Ambience, food, quality, price - They’ve nailed it all! if you are around at lower Manhattan, I will highly recommend this place for a tempting diner experience. with vast menu, delicious food, subtle ambience (no loud music!) and decent costing, they win the first place to my dining experience in NY❤️
Have been here twice now, both times for lunch food but can’t complain about the food too much either occasion. Typical diner fare food tucked off the beaten path in a quiet area, although I have noticed during breakfast that it does get quite busy. Overall a nice place for a quick bite if you’re in the area or planning a hike across the nearby Brooklyn Bridge
such a great place! The food was absolutely delicious and the service was amazing. Our waiter made sure our food was exactly what we wanted by asking intentional questions - about the chocolate milk and even how we wanted the blueberries/chocolate chips on our pancakes - also asked if we wanted our bacon crispier or not when our plates came out. He was so kind, helpful and patient!! All of our food was good! Very impressed and would definitely eat here again. Thank you so much!!!
Went here several times on our trip to New York. It was by far the best discovery we made for our breakfast spot, from the portion size to the best customer service we have ever witnessed! The staff were incredible, even with the busy atmosphere, there were always one step ahead. The food tasted amazing, tried several dishes to discover that my favorite were the pancakes deluxe with sausage/bacon and egg! Simply delicious!
I work in the area and have done 2 to-go orders, one pick-up and one delivery. I ordered a burger-- the temperature was wrong and I didn't the pickle that was supposed to come with it. Did a breakfast delivery; steak and eggs. The steak was the wrong temperature. I would try them again, but I wouldn't do red meat.
This diner is a bit dated but the food is good and service was great! Staff were all pleasant and friendly. Food was served fairly quickly and prices are good. If you're looking for unpretentious diner vibe, this is definitely a solid choice.
Nice place within authentic diner vibe. Friendly service decent food
This is a nice calm/quiet type of diner. Not noisy and the food taste good. Place looked really clean and the staff we very helpful and friendly.
While the service here was spot on and friendly, we thought the breakfast was good-but-not-great. We didn't find a lot of breakfast options in this neighborhood. I had the Eggs Benedict, and the Canadian bacon was not so good. It's a nice, airy space surrounded by windows, and the restaurant was very clean.
Loved the food. Thought it was a family diner but place didnt have changing tables in restrooms. Staff were friendly.
I went here for the first time with some coworkers today and it is definitely a typical New York City diner. They have all the usual menu items you would expect from a New York City diner and one of my favorite things to order from is breakfast (anytime of the day). The bacon and home fries and eggs were all delicious and nothing was too greasy. The staff was friendly. They were a bit more flies than I would have liked to see flying around the restaurant hopefully with the change in weather that won't be a problem anymore. Would definitely come back.
The omelette I ordered was great. The cake was not. It looked nothing like the picture and it was dry. Overall I will order again just not the desserts
a great neighborhood spot with something for everyone on the menu. there are not many diner’s around anymore in the city and this one has old timey charm. the service was quick and attentive, our coffee mugs were never empty. the portions are bigger than the photos in the menu and you really get your money’s worth.
We first tried Squire’s Diner by getting pancakes to go, but after that we came back for two proper breakfasts — and this is definitely a place you want to sit down and experience, not just do takeaway. The atmosphere is completely different when you eat inside a classic diner compared to bringing the food back to an apartment. It’s lively, relaxed, and unmistakably American. We ordered different omelettes, served with toast and fried potatoes — simple, hearty, and exactly what you expect from a traditional diner breakfast. Prices were also very reasonable, around $12 per person for the omelette alone. A great spot for an authentic American breakfast experience.
We came here for breakfast 3 seperate times while we were visiting New York. The portions were large and I found it to be value for money. The food was tasty, especially the breakfast options! The service was excellent and I found the staff very polite, they even let us leave the bags to the side when we came in with all of our luggage.
Good portions, cheap price but tasteless food. I didn’t expect a world class steak as this is a diner. It was a Sunday evening at 5:30pm and I felt like having a steak. Everywhere else in FiDi was either closed or very expensive. Tried this place as it was open. Paid $25 for steak and sides as pictured. Good portions and relatively clean place. Guys serving are nice. Meat, vegetables and potatoes had zero taste…not a bad taste just no taste at all.
-1 Food wasn’t good, very basic and clearly store-bought -1 Overpriced for food quality -1 Did not honor reservation Do not recommend and would not come back.
The food is mediocre. It is a convenient option for a quick meal, but the overall quality could definitely be improved. While service was acceptable, the experience did not quite meet expectations. A decent spot if you are in a hurry.
If I could give this place 0 stars I would first let me say my server was great and the diner itself was very clean. BUT THE FOOD OMG!!! First I ordered a chicken pot pie and at first bite it just taste like the chicken was bad so I told my server I didn’t like it and he offered to get me something else so I said yes I take a turkey burger and I PROMISE YOU THE TURKEY MEAT WAS BAD!!! So then I knew I wasn’t bugging the poultry was not fresh I just asked for the bill and left
Squires has been around since I was a kid. What I've come to understand throughout the years is that it's a place of convenience. Nothing can be said of this diner that stands out. Its just an establishment frequented by people on the go. Would I recommend this diner to anyone? I can't say that I would.
I ordered breakfast here this morning. Belgian Waffle. The food was brought out on a dirty plate. Crumbs and egg residue on the plate. Disgusting. When the same food came back on a clean plate, I could not eat it. I will not eat there again. Very unsanitary.
This place was so gross. I ordered a feta omelette, there was no feta. I told the server there was no feta, after I broke it up to show him. He brings back the same omelette after they added feta to it all chopped up & said here’s more feta for you. It completely lacked any flavor and had a hair on the spot where they pushed it back onto the plate post griddle.
First time in NY, but last time to ever eat here. The waiters were rude when we walked in. We waited over 15 minutes before getting ask for drinks. One waiter came and threw our water then drinks down. When we asked about a dish the guy literally stop taking our order and went to the nearby table to answer questions and get them coffee. We stayed due to being hungry and had limited time before our flight and seeing Ground Zero. Finally ordered and after some time got our food. I notice extra items not on the menu. Asked for the manager three times and literally had to run down stairs to puke. But one bathroom had three girls and one toilet.. Don't ask. The second was locked. The room across that holds the food was open and it made the food come back up worst. Other than bugs in the food the place holding some of the food was not clean. The place need to be updated and inspected. The waiters attitude changed after we confronted and showed the bug. 7May17. Other people saw the bug and left. The manager tried to his the plate and hush us out. Please be careful when eating here.
Wow is the food terrible. I got spaghetti and meatballs and it was the most disgusting thing I’ve ever tasted. Like why even have it on the menu ? The meatballs were a mushy mess with a strong raw onion flavor, it was more bread paste than meat in there. Barely cooked it. The sauce was a watery nonsense no flavor barely tomato in there, I don’t know what kinda sauce that is. I threw it all out immediately. I am appalled. Even the dressing for the side salad was bad. Clearly they’re skimping out on ingredients and the food is not fresh. I’ve been here a handful of times over the years for breakfast and never had it been good food like that but this might be the worst yet.
