Greek Express Bronx Reviews
Owner is super nice, great food. The octopus was grilled perfectly. They make their food with finese and it always tastes good.
I've ordered from here a bunch of times and it's always piping hot, quick and tasty. From kolokiftedes, tirokafteri, spanakopita, to standbys like falafel, feta, gyro, baklava - they've got all the Greek specialties, fresh seafood, quality meat and a diverse selection of side dishes and appetizers.
This place is an authentic Greek place with many delicious offerings to your liking. I personally love their Gyros, the meat is juicy, tender, and extremely flavorful. I will be back here again.
The food is consistently delicious! The staff is warm, friendly and down to earth. Great neighborhood place that loves their patrons.
Delicious Greek food with very friendly and welcoming owners. Didn't feel rushed to order or to leave. Portions were large enough to take leftovers home.
Im.just completely satisfied with this restaurant i mean the food is delicious 😋 best Greek food and prices are reasonable and great service too... of u want good greek food go there
Lovely hidden Greek gem in Riverdale. Great classic Greek food. Nicely priced . Pleasant service. Can’t wait to return for live Greek music❤️
Always enjoy this neighbor gem- love Greek food The “Orso” salad is my favorite. Dishes are freshly made and prices are not bad.
I’ve been to Greece twice and this restaurant was spot on!!! Loved the Gyro platter and you get a TON of meat for what you pay for. Highly recommend this place!!!!
Cute little place with amazing Greek food. Service could be a little better but definitely worth it.
Fantastic spot for Greek food. The gyro and the falafel are delicious and cooked to perfection. The service is very nice and attentive.
The fresh tilapia plaki is the best fish meal I've ever had and the yogurt is rich and creamy.
Local Secret: BEST FRENCH FRIES in all of Riverdale - the slightly battered/seasoned type. Greek food is also excellent, and the FETA CHEESE IS OF MAGNIFICENT QUALITY. For a simple weeknight supper get the (huge) Elliniki salad topped with chicken souvlaki. More adventurous, get the salmon platter (Solomos) or the baked chicken cubes with orzo (Kotopoulo youvetsi). The side of peas cooked in olive oil is a personal favorite (arakas).
Past this restaurant many times over the years , today I thought I would try it out. Got a Gyro , it was excellent , one of the best I have ever eaten, I will return without doubt.
Great atmosphere and excellent service. Ask for stuffed grape leaves, lunch is great, dinner is a must and very casual. Extremely affordable
The food was amazing. The staff was very friendly and kind. We truly felt welcomed and that they appreciated our business.
Greek Express is one of my favorite restaurants in Riverdale! Delicious and authentic. The service is wonderful and the specials are excellent.
Really great Greek food! Get the Souvlaki Chicken platter, comes with a delicious salad and pita bread. Service is friendly and fast.
Always a friendly bunch, and the food is delicious. Looking forward to dining in at some point. If you go there, bring a bottle of wine with you.
Such a polite sweet waitress, food was delicious, great portions. The pita bread was so soft and warm. Fries are amazing. Price incredibly fair. Will come back
Awesome Greek spot in Riverdale. Nice little homey feel and never too crowded. You can even request tables if you like a certain area. Food is phenomenal. Had the calamari, wrapped leaves, and eggplant appetizers. For main, lamb gyro, falafel sandwich, and shrimp platter. My guests and I had no complaints. Price is good for NYC prices. Service even better. Definitely a recommended.
Came for dinner with the family. The people who work here are very kind and patient and provided stellar service. This is the second time we came here and the food is very fresh and delicious. We came back for the food, and will be coming back because of the service. They were understanding despite our screaming toddler. I recommend the Chicken Souvlaki and the Kolokythokeftéthes appetizer. The rice pudding provided a satisfying end to the meal. Highly recommend this place for good Greek food.
We always eat our lunch at Greek Express Restaurant in Riverdale Avenue, it feels like home. The owner named John and his father are wonderful. Plus Peter and April are also wonderful people. It's peaceful and I really enjoy the food. God bless them.
I’ve never been to the actual location, only had delivery but the food is excellent. A but on the pricey side (I paid almost $90 with tax & tip include for 3 meals/people) but definitely worth it especially since there is no other spot like this in my area
The food is always delicious however I have two complaints. Yesterday I called to order food and I didn’t mind being put on hold but I ended up not ordering because the 2 times I called not only was I put on hold for a long time but on both occasions they hung up the phone without taking my order. Today I ordered food and upon delivery the delivery person had the audacity to ask me how much I wanted back from my $7 change. That was completely inappropriate and rude.
I love this place! The food, the service, and the atmosphere! One of the best Greek restaurants I've been outside of Greece. Thumbs up!
Deliciously authentic Greek dining experience in the heart of Riverdale. It seems like our server came over from Greece along with this restaurant and was very friendly alongside the manager. Come for the Hummus, stay for the falafel sandwiches and order any one of their amazing desserts. Did I mention BYOB?
Incredible food and even better service! Went there with my best friend and spent hours eating our delicious meal completely unrushed. Would recommend to anyone! Their Dolma is probably the best I've ever had.
This restaurant, the owner and his family have a warm place in my heart. During the last recession when restaurants were closing right and left in Riverdale they had the nerve to open up a new neighborhood restaurant. My daughter entices her friends from Manhattan and Brooklyn to make the long subway journey up to Riverdale with a simple promise. “ My dad will take us to Greek Express”. It’s irresistible. A 2 to 4 hour subway round trip to have lunch at Greek Express. I love feeding them and hearing their gossip. I almost forgot something not related to their fine food. They once opened an hour early so that my very elderly mom who could not climb the four flights of stairs to our apartment could have a place to sit for an hour. The owner came over and treated her like a queen. It was totally in character and I am eternally grateful.
Generous portions, great taste - I've never been to Greece, but if the food there is like it is here then I'm on the next plane over there!! Gyros are overstuffed (as I have always thought they should be) and the various souvlaki (kebabs) are nicely seasoned and juicy. And if course the traditional elianiki (Greek Salad) comes with a nice big piece of feta cheese on top!!
Great little Greek restaurant, the best Greek salad I ever had, staff is friendly and curtious, we go there at least once a month. It's always pleasant when the host recognizes you at the door and greets you with a big smile: 'Welcome back, how are you'.
As usual this establishment is always on the money with the awesome food and friendly staff . I have been coming here for quite some time and never left unsatisfied. I strongly suggest anyone who is looking for authentic Greek food ,this is the place to try.
Had a late dinner here tonight and couldn’t ask for anything better.... food and service was awesome. Large portions and super fresh! Would definitely return! Thanks!
I have been there several times. Food is good and price is fair for the portions. Server and owner are friendly. Place is always clean and food is served fairly quick.
Always friendly and always good food. A bit small for eating in but it’s never s problem. I’ve never had anything bad in the menu and I think I have gone through most of it by now!
My girlfriend and I had a wonderful time here. The service was friendly and very attentive. The food was lite but full of flavor. We really enjoyed our meal.
Today are family ate at the Greek Express. Great authentic Greek food. We enjoyed lamb and beef Gyros, grilled chicken Gyros, Falafel, lemon potatoes and topped it with Greek Beer. Peter and Mario hospitality was most full Hearted. Thank you!!!
I had such a great time on a rainy day! Food clean… u taste everything omg! Desert please get the orange cake! John & Anita thank you!
Best for takeout or delivery, as it's a small space for dining in. The grilled meat combos are amazing. It's expensive but worth it. Probably one of the top 5 restaurants in Riverdale in terms of popularity, food quality and service.
Hard to find a good, authentic Greek restaurant in the Bronx/Lower Westchester. This place is very good, authentic Greek dishes, even Greek wine and beers. Great service, delightful owners. Highly recommended.
Don't miss out on this little gem. Excellent food never had a bad meal, fresh and flavorful. Charming atmosphere, owner is a true gentleman and host. They know how to treat their customers. Best gyro I ever had, reasonable prices. I cannot say enough good things, just go you will not be sorry.
I reached out to Greek Express to cater a film shoot happening nearby and they were wonderful to the work with. The meals were fresh, delicious, and decently priced for what we were getting. The whole cast and crew raved about how delicious their lunches were. I highly recommend this spot!
This place has the best GREEK food. The service is top notch and the owner is so kind and polite. I love everything about this restaurant. Its small and warm... the decor is unique and If you dine in you'll feel as if you are in Greece 🇬🇷.
Thankful to have Greek Express in the neighborhood! Really nice decor, the food is delicious. We often get the gyro plate and usually have enough for leftovers! The staff is Greek and when you go here it's as if you're in the local streets of Athens.
I love the food the place the staff the owner if you looking for a Greek place in the Bronx this the place the food the place will make you happy and relax the magic is in the food Wao Wao love it 😍
First of all, I want to say this is the only business in the Riverdale area that treated me with understanding, like a human being deserves (during Covid-19 pandemic). If it wasn't for them, it would have made a bad period in my life even worse. That says a lot! The people who work here are likeable, down to earth, pleasant and friendly. Now in terms of the food, I don't eat certain things but don't hold that against me. The menu choices I like are: Manitari Gemisto (feta, spinach on a giant portobello mushroom). It is served hot and with all the ingredients blended together are a taste sensation. The Kolokithokeftedes are zucchini croquettes blended with cheese and herbs. This is very very good. Oddly I notice some similarity to potato latkes with this side dish though it is made completely differently. Their octopus is also very good. If you've never had octopus I find it has a similar taste to tuna fish but has a tougher consistency. Under salads, their Kritharaki has an interesting taste. The flow between oil and saltiness makes it more subtle yet different. It contains orzo, spinach, artichokes, olives, feta, sundried tomatoes and virgin olive oil. The artichoke taste really stands out. Their Mesogiaki salad is really satisfying, tasty and with ingredients well balanced together for a meal. It contains grilled halloumi cheese, baby greens, apple slices, walnuts and honey lemon vinaigrette sauce. My girlfriend likes their tilapia plaki, yogurt and lentil soup. I wish they would cook an authentic saganaki steak using kasseri rather than feta. The restaurant and its decorations feel like you are in Greece. I lived there. When there I feel am in relatable surroundings. Another thing, they need to do more making daily specials. They had this white bean soup that was excellent but have not served it in awhile. Perhaps they need to hire me as a cook to do more?
The moment you walk in, it feels like stepping into a small Greek city — the atmosphere is so authentic and welcoming. You can immediately feel the comfort of it being a family-run business. The owners and staff are incredibly kind and make you feel right at home. The traditional Greek food is absolutely outstanding — everything tasted so fresh and full of flavor. From the perfectly seasoned meats to the crisp, vibrant salads, every dish was a reminder of true, homemade Greek cooking. You can tell they put so much pride and heart into everything they serve. I can’t wait to come back!
My parents ordered New Years Eve dinner from Greek Express and they loved it so much they asked me to write a review! They worked with Emmanuel at Greek Express to help them select menu items and quantities for 5 people (4 out of 5 Greeks)! They were so pleased with the final order. Everything was fresh and delicious and the pick-up went so smoothly. Looking forward to more delicious meals!
Every time I passed this place I will tell my self that I must try it. Well, today was the day!! My brother and I tried this place and we were very pleased. The food was good, the salad was delicious!! My brother had the first octopus and he liked it. I had the shrimp with rice, very good; the feta cheese enhanced the flavor on the sauce. We will definitely return!! The gentlemen the owners were very nice and attentive. If you do stop by, give yourself time to look for parking, is a busy street
My girlfriend and I was looking for a mom and pop like restaurant and we found it with Greek Express. The vibes feel like you're with family and the atmosphere is like you're in Santorini. The food is very fresh, flavorful, and clean. Manos (I hope I got his name right) the owner spoke with us, he came out to speak with all the guests and make sure we were ok. I didn't get our waiters name but he was an older gentlemen very helpful and kind as well. The food, the atmosphere, The Staff brings Greece to NYC and it's fire! 🔥🔥🔥 We had the Calamari which is the best calamari I ever had. Usually I eat like 2 or 3 anywhere else but here I couldn't stop eating them. Our main meal, we had the Chicken Souvlaki. We also had the Greek Coffee. If you like your coffee really sweet you probably won't like it. But I loved it. I'll be back for sure. If you're reading this you have to come to Greek Express.
Nice comfy spot to grab some Greek food. The owner and a cook or two were in there when I came in late one night and were more than friendly with me and kept me entertained while I waited for my large order to be prepared. A hidden gem in the area not to be overlooked.
Yummm, don't miss the freshest calamari, delicious eats. Never disappoints. And I so love the charming design of this space, feels like you're almost in Greece.
Food is amazing. Definitely fresh food. Friendly staff. 1 less star because no alcohol available but you can bring your own bottle.
Very fine take out with fresh ingredients prepared like home-cooked meal from Thessaloniki...fast delivery as well...will definitely be ordering from Greek Express again.
Good food and the nicest people. They have outdoor seating, but it can get pretty popular. The best part is they serve beer.
Greek Express is basic but good - not great. In my experience their dips are very good, their chicken is overcooked and everything could use a little more seasoning (salt, paprika.) But there is a perfect menu, the food itself is fresh and both delivery & sit down dinner is efficient & friendly. Please like & follow
Consistently a good meal. Food is always fresh and delicious. My son's favorite is the salmon and spanakorizi. I love the Pikilia appetizer and their salads. The gyro is also delicious and huge. The owner is lovely and knows all of his local clients.
Very nice place, I le the Greek heritage accessories on the walls and the seaport paint, make u feel like authentic place, it looks like small family business which is something I always love to support, I would suggest to add some Greek brands for the soft drinks section, to complete the Greek experience, snaple is good option for those who don't want to take total Greek "risk", but I'm sure I'm not the only one who want it as authentic as possible... other than that was really nice place! They all was checking on us to make sure we happy with the food, the music in the background was nice and not to loud so we could have nice conversation while we dine.... definitely going to come back
Picked up a Greek salad for myself and a souvlaki sandwich for my kid. We loved what we ate. Will definitely return. The atmosphere I gave 3 stars because inside they still operate like high covid times.
Decent standard fair. Would recommend for a quick and decent bite.
The gyro is really tasty. It's huge and tastes fresh and can make a meal. Other food is good, though entrees are pretty pricey. Love the spinach rice especially. I feel like they charge differently than what's on the takeout menu sometimes, or intentionally upsize you like if you order a sandwich only and they give you the platter with fries and charge you more. I don't like fries, so I find that annoying. The menu pricing is annoying too, because I think they said something like well you must have had an old menu (we didn't). So we stopped ordering from them because it got annoying, which is disappointing.
Food was good and prepared fresh and had a great presentation. EDIT: still our favorite gyro and such place even in the pandemic. Never had a bad meal even when reheated at home.... Amazing
Not a fan of the Greek Food but it was my second time at this places and Food was good. No too much flavor but I guess it because they don't use too much salt.. I give 10 at of 10 for the French fries uffff Delicious!!!
When is the expansion going to open? I feel like it's been years. There's a lot here I want to try, but I know it won't hold up as takeout. Not as good overall as the other Greek place in the neighborhood, but still pretty solid. Very good salads.
Just great food. We had the Halloumi (grilled goat cheese) and the Octopus starters. Best octopus I've ever eaten; tender, not at all rubbery, and the halloumi was delicious too. Good start.:-) I followed that with the shrimp souvlaki and my wife had the falafel, both also excellent. Looking forward to going back.
I've been coming here (on/off) since it's opening. Overall, the food is pretty tasty and reasonably priced-- with the lentil soup being a featured star!
Service was very slow considering there was only one other table being used. The glasses are the size of tumblers and for a place charging over 20 an entree they only serve Snapple. Thankfully the food was good.
This tiny spot in Riverdale was a fun surprise during our visit to the neighborhood. They were open for indoor dining with reasonable distancing between tables. The service was cozy and personal. We got our food promptly, and the different dishes were delicious (feta cheese, salads, and two platters: gyro and vegetarian). The gyro was the star of the show, with the halloumi cheese at a close second. The fries were excellent, right balance of soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside. Recommended!
Restaurant is a bit small with only about 6 tables. The Ambiance of the place is OK, The service was OK, The server works alone serving and doing other stuff so to get a refill of water was a bit difficult, we had to continously get up to ask for a refill because they serve water in tiny cups. The food was absolutely awesome. All the stars are for the food, I absolutely love the food here. Great salad and amazing flavors in the entrees. Meals are the same price for lunch n dinner so $20 each for the lunch platter.
This is a small and cozy restaurant that seems to be family owned. The service is excellent, the server was very kind and helpful. We tried the gyro and the chicken souvlaki. The crowd favorite was definitely the gyro. The Tzatziki was really good. They provided us with more pita at no cost. I would definitely eat here again.
How hard is it to pick up the phone, write down my order, pack the order, ensure that all items are in the bag, and deliver in a reasonable amount of time? I must be spoiled from restaurants in Manhattan because I can't seem to find one in Riverdale that can actually do these simple tasks.
Good food. Very slow, lousy service. Had to go get menus, had to ask if we could order, had to go up and ask at the counter for the check. A lot of work to have lunch!
Ordered delivery. Staff on the phone was really friendly and very accommodating and knowledgeable when it came to a nut allergy. I appreciated that greatly. Pastitsio was pretty good Chicken Souvalki was bland and meh. As was the rice that came with it. Felt it was extremely pricey. It's my first time having greek food in the Riverdale area so don't know if there are other places better in the neighborhood. But compared to many other times I have had greek food in general, it was definitely inferior to pretty much every other restaurant I've ever eaten in/from while also being significantly more expensive. Sadly, I can't recommend this place. I very much wanted to given how great the staff was on the phone. But it's simply not worth it.
I don’t expect this place to be five stars but they really do not even try. The food is beyond bland and presented sloppily. Put some attention and detail into your dishes. Just try. Don’t throw things together and hope they taste ok. And if you need inspiration go to Avra on Madison (for example), sample anything and then sample your own food. You will see how terrible yours is.
It’s been a while since I’ve been here but I remember their food being much better. The falafel was not very flavorful, the lettuce in the Greek salad was browning. The cheese was rubbery. Overall I just wasn’t impressed.
Greek Express for years was our family "go-to place" for ordering in. (We've never eaten at the restaurant.). What has happened?? Tonight may be the last time we order here. We've ordered the same things for over 12 years: gyros, fries, chicken souvlaki, Greek salad, calamari. Observations tonight: Portions are noticeably smaller. Fries used to be awesome -- now they are limp, tasteless. Gyros and chicken souvlaki-- ok. Calamari -- pretty good and pretty small. And prices? a lot higher. Thank you for the food and the memories.
I like this place because it is the only Greek restaurant in the area. It is definitely not the best Greek food I've ever had , but it is good enough when you're craving it. It is small and cute inside the service is friendly and the people are nice it seems the prices went up It is small and cute inside the service is friendly and the people are nice it seems the prices went up. The portion sizes are good ,but the food is not that flavourful in my opinion. I prefer going to queens but that is a whole mission, and I have also been to Greece, so I guess I'm a little bit picky but like I said in the beginning of this review it's good enough considering its close in the area.
We tried gyro there and did not like it. Meet looks dried up, doesn't taste good at all. Place itself need some good cleaning work
Food is great, a little too pricey on the entrees but I guess it has to be, ingredients and quality of food is top notch. However something I find quite humorous and very odd...there is literally one person working the whole floor, cashier, phones and there is 10 tables Haha. You guys could atleast get someone who is fast, much younger and doesnt look like a zombie or a Dracula.
The lentil soup was average. No real flavor The souvlaki was just awful. Totally tasteless. I had ordered from there years ago. I never went back. I figured. Let me try one more time. This time is the last time.
Ordered the falafel gyro from here and it was mediocre for the price. The falafel was a doughy chewy texture without much seasoning. Overall just wasn't good. Unlikely to come back. The Johnson Diner a few blocks over does a much better falafel gyro. Go there instead
The lettuce was fresh but the lack of sauce made the whole Gyro less flavorful . I had the falafel gyro and my husband had chicken. Waste of money.
Waitress was nice All the food came cold The owner as soon as we walked in gave us weird vibes like Spanish people weren’t welcomed but we still gave the benefit of the doubt Aggg maybe people my color ain’t welcomed well welcomed but definitely eating the food cold
I received my order with missing items, they said they would bring them as soon as possible. An hour later “my call can not be completed as dialed.” So I dont know if I should contunue waking or accept my $20 platter which is now cold with no salad and no tzaziki.
I have eaten here plenty of times, the falafel were good. Today, I ordered take out and the falafel was hard and tasted like packaged. I will never go there again. If they didn't have fresh homemade falafel, why didn't the saw they didn't have them . Bye Greek Express.
Waited 1 hr for 2 gyros, was over charged for the fries and despite ordering over $20 was charged for delivery. Food was so bland. the worst falafel I've had in my life and I'm a falafel lover. Save your money and go elsewhere!! or even to a street van. Not impressed AT ALL Spent $25 on 2 gyros (falafel and chicken) and fries
Be advised that their prices have gone up so much that Greek Express in Riverdale may be a place you want to avoid. Just opened my 68.00 delivery. NOT GOOD No salad in the bag with the dinner. The hummus is so salty that it went right in the trash. All the containers were packed on their sides, complete mess. There was a time this was a great little gem. That ship has sailed. .
Extremely overpriced, $25 for a Gyro platter is insane!!! Came here and walked right out the door, as soon as I saw those prices You can definitely get the same type of food somewhere else or even with better quality, I do not recommend
