Cole's Buffalo Reviews
The food was delicious. The service was great. The atmosphere was wonderful, (we sat outside). The menu wasn't incredibly extensive but they had all the favorite standards. We stopped after the garden walk for an early Sunday dinner and it was the perfect ending to a lovely afternoon.
We ordered coffee, Irish potato soup, a Reuben sandwich, corn beef and cabbage, and shepherds pie on St. Patrick's Day (splitting everything but the coffee and soup). The food was decent overall! But, I've had much better of all three dishes elsewhere. All was a bit dry and not enough flavor for what they should taste like. The portions were generous as you'll see in the photos and the presentation was nice
Great experience at Cole's. The burger was cooked to the right temp, roast beef was tender, fries were crispy, in short everything was delicious. They have a great draft menu with lots of local craft beers. And service was excellent with very personable bartenders. Fun night.
I had a really great time at Cole's! The food is really delicious - especially the appetizers we ordered, which were Buffalo shrimp and banana pepper dip. Yum! The burgers and steak sandwiches were pretty good as well. The beer selection is amazing! They have lots of local beers too. The service was impeccable and they were playing a bunch of great oldies when I went. Would definitely go back!
Great bartenders. Cold beers. Nice regulars.
If I had a last meal request on death row, I would choose a cheeseburger from this restaurant. If I had to eat one meal for the rest of my life, it would be a cheeseburger and fries from this restaurant. The last ten dollars of my paycheck, the first thought at lunch time. If you could marry food, I would make this cheeseburger my life line.
The food was so good. Clam chowder was full of taste.
Great restaurant in the Elmwood Village area. There was no wait for a table--group of 9 on a Saturday afternoon. Our waitress was great, took our orders & before we knew it, our food was being served. Everyone enjoyed their meals! We will def go back when we are in Buffalo!
I had a grilled chicken sandwich with goat cheese and fig jam. It was the best chicken sandwich I have ever had!. The bartender was a true professional and provided excellent service. I highly recommend Cole's for a casual meal.
A Buffalo Classic! Wings, Burgers/Sandwiches, soup and salad, they do it all well. Great place to sit and eat at the bar and interact with staff or bring the family and get a table in the dining room. Comfort food, nostalgic atmosphere and lots of local color!!
Had never eaten hear before. I had a Clancy sandwich, it was delicious. Roast beef & provolone with fried peppers & onions for $1 more. Service was good as well. Average prices. Check it out you won't be disappointed.
I love Cole's! One of the first places I tried when I started at Buffalo State many years ago. It's a charming Irish pub.
This is one of my favorite places in Buffalo!! My husband and I go here all the time. The food is delicious and I love the atmosphere. It's such a cool local place!
Amazing restaurant in Buffalo, New York. When my wife and I vist Buffalo to shop, our last stop before heading back to Canada is coles' restaurant, for a delicious bowl of clam chowder soup, a burger, and a beer. We've been doing this for the past eight years now.
Came here to check it off the "wing trail" list..... it's a small but *VERY* lively sports bar. Literally had to dodge people playing darts on the way in the front door! 😁Just don't expect to have a quiet conversation here... Bring your "outdoor voice" 😏 Wings were fantastic especially their signature Honey Cajun. Perfectly made and sauced not too much not too little.... crispy on the outside juicy on the inside. But the extra step they take with the Honey Cajun of grilling them after saucing adds a really unique Smoky char and caramelizes the sauce for an even better crunch. They are a little different than your "traditional" buffalo wing but definitely give them a try. Drink and on tap selection is also fantastic. Something like 30+ brews on tap including *CIDER* Definitely will be back for more!
First time going. The good was good. Large portions with good taste. Big and varied beer list. It was busy enough. Nice Irish decor. My companions enjoyed their food as well. Some different takes on pub fare and then also traditional offerings. I saw families with children in there and I would feel comfortable bringing mine. Overall good experience.
Great find in a really interesting area of Buffalo. The food was enjoyable, service, excellent. I will return again the next time I am in town. Well done Cole's
I was there Saturday night when the clock sprung forward who ever the bouncer was that night was amazing and made my night mentally peaceful I am injured and on crutches and he let me in told me to be careful. Through out the night he came and checked on me a couple times and after when I was waiting outside came over and talked for a bit ! Bartenders were awesome super quick and responsive great drinks, overall a great experience
Ordered 40 wings yesterday, medium, and honey Cajun. They were cooked thoroughly and very well. I usually don't like honey wings, but these were good with the Cajun kick it was a great atmosphere. Packed, and everyone was excited and waiting to see the Buffalo Bills big WIN💪🏾
Nice selection on the menu. The food was delicious! Our server was delightful! We'll definitely be back!
This place is a classic! The food was absolutely perfect today, exactly what we were craving and so well prepared! Steak sandwich with fries and the shaved beef sandwich with fries were excellent. The Tom and Jerry's are a holiday tradition and were delicious.
Cole’s is truly a Buffalo staple that everyone should experience. My fiancé and I had our engagement party here last week in the balcony room that overlooks the bar. Everything from the planning of the party to the food, drink and service were fantastic. Would highly recommend the banana pepper dip and honey Cajun wings. If you’re looking for a great meal or a late night out with friends, Cole’s is the place to be!
Buffalo has no shortage of spots to get bar food, but Cole's stands out. absolutely my go to when I want a fish fry, theirs is INCREDIBLE. huge, great sides, perfect batter. they're also my go to spot when I want take out in my neighborhood. their prices are great and the portions are huge (my order of tenders last night came with 8!) Cole's is a buffalo tradition and it's one we should be proud of.
AMAZING FOOD. straight up. My girlfriend ordered the Buffalo Shrimp appetizer and it came with 10 jumbo shrimp, big enough for a meal. I really loved their fingers & fries. French fries at Cole's were absolutely on point. On another visit, we split the crab cakes for an appetizer. Can't even explain how yummy. Their drinks are great. Margaritas definitely have more tequila in it than other places. Enjoy it yourself when ya go!
Enjoyed a nice meal with friends. Food was very good, service was excellent 😎🇺🇸
I had the chicken wrap with BBQ flavored chicken fingers, fresh chopped celery and carrots with a side of french fries. It’s one of my favorites !!! Sitting on the patio on Elmwood is a vibe.
Easily one of the best Reuben’s I’ve ever had. I drive pretty out of the way to get it. The kraut is one of a kind. I literally crave this sandwich. I’ve always gotten take out and my food was ready on time and fresh when picked up. Fries delicious also!!!!
Have eaten here my whole.life and every time.I visit since I moved away. Everything is well prepared.
Second time I have been here, my husband grew up in Buffalo and has been many many times. Food was excellent, service was good. Liked eating outside in the evening. It was a bit dark maybe add some string lights would be helpful and nice.
I haven't eaten there I just picked up a doordash order but I instantly fell in love with the ambience. I thought it was a new place but they've been there for just as long as I've been on this Earth which is a long time. I definitely want to go and check out the food and enjoy the good music.
What a wonderful place to eat. After not being able to have dinner next door at Mr. Goodbar due to having an underage member of our group, we thought to give Cole's a try. This is what you would call a happy accident. The staff was amazing and accommodating for our grou of 11 at 6pm on a Saturday night. The food was incredible. Not one of us had an issue. Bonus...the restaurant does not smell like a toilet. Unfortunately, the place next door does. Can't wait for our next time in Buffalo. We will most certainly be back.
I was at a fundraiser on the 2nd and 3rd floor with my wife and decided to go downstairs to grab a bite to eat, our server was Bella she was amazing and polite hats off to her!!
Great neighborhood bar. The bar tenders were friendly and quick with drinks. The patrons were very welcoming to everyone who came im the bar and made you feel as if you were part of that neighborhood.
In from out of town; was just walking around the area and stopped in here. Service was amazing, very kind and responsive. Drinks were killer, food was awesome. I wish I lived in Buffalo so I could come here all the time! Thanks so much guys!
Went for Mother’s Day brunch and even though it was pretty crowded they still got us seated and served very quickly. They have a great brunch menu. And our server was very nice, friendly, and helpful I wish I remembered her name. Also the mimosas were great!! They have a few different kinds too. We sat outside on the patio and it was nice and clean and fun people watching.
We love the food here! We came after a play and everyone was hungry. We had 6 children with us. And the service was sooooo slow. Over 45 minutes to get drinks and that's because we picked them up from the bar. Mind you, there was a Bill game on. Usually, it's not that slow. But for Bills game days they should staff better. Our waitress was working hard, but it was just too crazy in there.
You’ll always enjoy your time here! The menu is full of fresh options, and the service is consistently fantastic.
Hadn't been to Cole's for over 5 years. Food was amazing! Service was good. Lots of fun beers to choose from. Reservation system was not working, but was able to get a seat without issue.
Food, service and atmosphere were all pretty good. But it's very crowded and busy. Not really my kind of place. So it may rate higher or lower for you depending on your own preferences. Again it was busy so to most people I think they'd rate it higher than I did, eating here with family. Got a small group, this is probably a great, fun choice. Doing a family dinner? Have reservations and be patient.
Went for brunch, there was a game on in the bar so a little loud (that's my ambiance score), food tasted great, waitress was great, but my other three friends had mistakes with their orders that they specifically asked for slightly modified. It wasn't busy enough for these to not have happened...
Both original and spicy wings were awesome! This place has a great ambience as it dates back to 1933. It has a mural menu wallpaper on the wall with original items and prices, interesting to see. If you re into food gives you an insight into the different foods that have evolved over the decades. They used to serve frog legs! As a bar near a college they have a very respectable selection of beers on tap from different breweries, and bottle selections. Their chimichurri steak is very good. Overall a very good place laid back and with college vibe.
Service was quick and friendly. They were super busy but we were well attended to and our server was very chatty in a good way. Wings were on point and were served with a gigantic bowl of blue cheese (yum!) Drink menu was a novel and well appreciated! Only downside is if you sit on the patio be ready to be bothered by beggars. Not the bar's fault but it takes away from the experience a bit.
I love this place. The food is always delicious and the waitresses/waiters are always very nice and attentive. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because the BBQ wings that we ordered were a bit rubbery. Oh, They also have an amazing beer selection! Definitely will return.
We had a birthday party up on the third floor. The room was quite big with a separate little bar. We had fabulous food. Great salad awesome chicken wings roast beef cooked to perfection and pasta with ricotta on top outstanding. Their help was fantastic friendly polite right on top of everything.
Lovely outdoor dining, during Covid period, with ample room and overhead coverage. The restaurant, with bar, is Irish themed, but unless you eat inside, you probably wouldnt know. Ordered a $14 Bruschetta Burger that came with delicious fries; one of the tastiest burgers I've ever had the pleasure of enjoying! Waiter welcomed us into Buffalo, as it was our first actual time being in the city!
I had the lobster ravioli (it was a special that night), which was quite good and reasonably priced. Beers were a good price too. Also had Cajun BBQ wings, which were spicy and good. Not the best wings in Buffalo, but definitely worth a try. Overall for the price to food quality ratio I’d come back here. Good service too, server was very nice.
Food was as advertised - very good. People were kind and attentive. Portions were sizable but the pricing was, as with most places, inflated. Atmosphere was cool and nostalgic, but the music was simply far too loud for a mid-afternoon meal. We couldn't hear ourselves think it was so loud. Overall, not bad, but probably a one and done.
We stopped by for brunch/ lunch after a trip to the art museum. We were seated quickly but had to wait awhile for someone to take our order. It took even longer to bring our drinks and food. It was a little ridiculous after a while especially when you consider that drinks don’t take that long to make. There were other people in there and they were steady but weren’t slammed. We hardly saw our server the entire time. Finally, our food came out, and lucky for us it was pretty good. I had the Gorgonzola grape salad with chicken. Funny enough it had less than a teaspoon of dressing poured in the middle of the salad. I don’t even use that much dressing so me needing more is not very common. I was finally able to flag down a random server, not ours, and she was happy to bring me more. I was happy to have it because it was delicious, as was the entire salad. It was big, fresh, tons of toppings, great flavor combination and the chicken was cooked perfectly and seasoned very well. I am told the burger was cooked very well. It was big and thick and flavorful. The fries weren’t that good as they were cold and there weren’t very many. The Bloody Mary was good, standard, but he said he wished he upgraded to the bacon version for another $1. The mimosa was standard. I asked for light oj because I don’t want a ton of sugar, unfortunately that note wasn’t relayed to the bar staff. Overall an ok brunch. Service could use some work. Maybe it was an off day.
Nice place to go.. My mom liked the wings. I loved their fries. Burger a lil under seasoned for me. Service was great!
It's an Irish pub with low lights and dark wood. Primarily bar food like burgers, sandwiches and wings. Service was slow as we were upstairs and the place was busy. Place could use a face-lift or a good cleaning.
This place I’ve been to a few times. Each time it was decent. The beer menu is pretty good with a variety of types both local and not. The appetizer list is good, but nothing crazy. I would go without an appetizer though The main courses are reliable but nothing fancy. The grilled cheese, I’d recommend getting no spinach but the tomato was good with it. The chicken parm sandwich was delicious and I’d recommend getting that to anyone Atmospheres was good but a little loud which is expected for a bar restaurant style place. Waitress was always pleasant and on top of things
Great character, overall, and enjoyable food, with a rather nice selection of adult beverages. There's a lot of sports stuff and eventually the TVs will end up all on sports, so if you enjoy that, good for you. If, however, you're like me, and you find sports annoying, you'll want to go early to avoid the downfall into shouting sportsball noises. Very nice up to then, tho. Oh, and there are purse books under the bar, like a quality pub.
I love the ambiance of this historic Buffalo bar. The wood and glass inside is absolutely gorgeous and creates an unmistakable atmosphere. There is space both inside and outside on the covered patio. The patio is great to get fresh air and people watch. They serve beer and cocktails. This place is popular with all age groups but can get full with college kids. 100% recommend if visiting Buffalo.
All of the pub food I've had here has been fantastic. Burgers? Great. Wings? Superb. Even their company's Winced Warrior IPA that benefits Australia is fantastic (I'm a stout and porter guy). The staff is always accommodating, and the prices average around $12 an item, $9 an appetizer, $7 a beer, last I checked. Attached is the current specials menu (sorry about the quality without the flash, the lighting in the bar is low, so adjusting shutter-speed reduced the sharpness)
Nice simple restaurant that seemed to serve populations of carrying ages with ease. Food was fairly priced, and so we're drinks, extensive menu that seems to serve almost anything. Wait staff was plesent and checked in appropriately instead of just often! Be careful with street parking in the area surrounding and on weekdays parking after 5 is free! Restaurant is dimly lit, but large offering two dinning rooms two outdoor eating sections and an upper level. One of the women's restrooms lacks a handicapped stall.
We were on a tour and this was the second place we went to for wings. I found these to be super yummy. We got the barbeque which was delicious as well as a soy sauce one which was nice and flavourful maybe with a bit of ginger and garlic. And then we got the Sweet chilli Thai as well as medium wings. The soy sauce ones had a really nice crisp coating but the barbeque sauce was my favourite for sure
Just okay. Wings were small and not temperature hot when delivered. French onion soup was a disappoinment both in taste and temperature. Wing sides of celery and carrots were a sad sight for sore eyes (wilted, miscut, and small). Everyone waited awhile for cocktails. Never could understand this as a table of 6 adults, all drinking. Isn't this where your revenue and tips are the most impactful. Website shows a Sunday brunch menu that isn't available on Sunday. They just had a "special page". No real effort put forth there. Coles seems to be just another convenient place to hang with friends, nothing much more than that. Burgers were good although lettuce and tomato sides were as sad as the celery and carrots we got with the wings. Could be so much better if a little more effort was put into the service and food preparation and quality (at least fresh salad ingredients). Would probably go again, for location and convenience, just wouldn't expect much more than what we had which seems par for the course for restaurant/bars that have a good location and had a good following.
Food was great. Service lacking. Greeted and seated quickly. Host was friendly and efficient. Waitress Meghan initially very good. Let me know my dish had an ingredient not listed. Awesome. Thanks for the heads up. Food brought to table quickly and exactly as ordered. Dining companion told me burger was "one of the best". Lives up to it's good reputation. A few minutes later Meghan checks up. Yep. All is great. Then, Meghan just disappeared. No soda refill. No plate clearing. Had to find her to pay the check. I guess flirting with kitchen staff is more important...
Went for a late brunch. Mimosas were good for the price. Our server Emily was very kind. Unfortunately the food was mediocre. Chicken fingers tasted like the ones in the Tyson bag at tops. The chicken in the quesadilla was a bit rubbery. Wasn't awful food but wasn't great. I won't be back.
I was a little surprised by our experience at Cole's because other people have told me good things about it. I ordered the Ahi tuna salad, my girlfriend ordered French dip type beef sandwich, and teenage son ordered loaded cheese fries. Not super difficult stuff. But it took a while to get our food, to the point we were asking each other who remembered what time we sat down... and the food... looked like the cheese fries have been made that morning and were sitting under a light all day! The cheese was not gooey and melty it was like a dry hard helmet over a plate of fries. My tuna was watery and not at all seasoned and also topped with shredded carrots that were wilted and Browning and clearly old (see pic). I immediately pulled the carrots off and just let our puppy chew on them. Cole's is nice because they allow you to have your dog on the porch but other than that I don't think we will be back because the food was just very bland and mediocre and lukewarm. I also had to find a busboy and ask him to find our waiter, who was very nice when he was around but was perhaps a little stretched a little thin on a Saturday afternoon because we hardly saw him.
Sat at the bar for drinks and food. Keep in mind, if you're 5'7 and under , the seats are very low and for eating it was not comfortable to raise arms up to take a bite of food. The wings are up there among the best in Buffalo. Got the hot wings and wow! Not too much breading, nice crisp and the sauce was perfect. Side veggies lacking though. Couple of baby carrots and celery. Soup of the day was Clam Chowder. One of the best we've had. Thick, rich base, and plenty of potatoes and clams. Seasoned perfectly and came with slices of bread. Decor is eclectic. Atmosphere is dark with wood everywhere and not enough lighting. Was cold again. (We've been here before). The outside has become run down even more. Lacks a welcoming invite still. Bartender was amazing. Totally cool and made our afternoon more enjoyable.
My boyfriend and I had been very excited to come here after looking at their online website. The apps looked amazing and we couldn't wait to try their food. Honestly, we were going just for one of their appetizers. When we got there we waited about 30 minutes for a table because it was busy we took as a good sign that the food would be worth the wait. We got to our table, ordered drinks then realized that they were only serving brunch. Not once before we sat down and got our drinks were we told it would be brunch only. I can't have eggs and brunch is one of those things you just really have to be in the mood for. We were super disappointed that we were not going to be trying any of their food and for the lack of communication right off the bat. We didn't end up eating anything and just left instead. This experience has put us off to even trying it again.
I've been to Cole's many times, and found the food to be great, the service fine, and the atmosphere charming. Unfortunately, going there for St. Patrick's Day in the hope of getting a great corned beef sandwich turned out to be a mistake. What I received was 2 slices of (not, toasted, not grilled, very soft so not structurally sound) rye bread, a slathering of Weber's mustard, and maybe 3 thin slices of (dry) corned beef. I know they had actual corned beef - they were serving it as the corned beef dinner! The waitress spoke quietly and couldn't be understood above the crowd. She came back a little while after taking our orders to check on us, and I wanted to order another (different beer). She asked what kind, and I told her "The Scotch Ale". She stood there blankly for a few moments, then walked away. Several minutes later, she brought a beer menu to me and set it down in front of me. While she waited expectantly, I located the Scotch Ale and told her the number. She jotted it down and wandered off to place the order.
I went in alone on a Fridays night just a table for one. My server was at the hostess stand, saw me standing there and ignored me for 3 mins and then when I was finally seated it took 30 mins for me to get my drink. Then when the food came she was no where to be found. I wanted another beer but couldn’t tell anyone. I ended up asking the hostess for water. Horrible service. Excellent food. Excellent atmosphere.
The food was very disappointing. The fries clearly sat under a heat lamp for 20 minutes. They were warm and soggy. If you’re 25-30 post college and looking to hook up, this is the place for you! Otherwise, not so much
Me and my daughter went there for the first time this week. After waiting 30 minutes to try to order and getting ignored by the waitress we went inside and asked if we had to order at the bar or someplace else. Some places do this so I thought maybe we were doing it wrong. We then had this heavy older woman come up to us and say that she was just coming to greet us (after 30 minutes a greeting?) She then told me and my daughter that she was to busy to deal with us. She was just rude and not professional. After waiting 30 minutes and not getting even a water we were told we weren't needled. I am very happy to spend. My money someplace else.
Honestly out of every bar I’ve been to in Buffalo, Cole’s is by far the worst. Consistently rude bartenders, bad environment and energy, and overall always has been my worst experience when going out. Save yourself the time and find another bar to grab some drinks with.
Awful experience. Our waitress forgot everything and when we asked a second time she brought all the wrong items. She also treated us like second class citizens while she flirted with the table of Bro’s opposite us the entire time. I remembered this place being cool and the food being great. Very disappointed.
Overserves underage and college kids who curse, spit on, and fight people walking by bar. Avoid.
Last two times here the service was very poor and the food was just not good. Not sure what happened here but not what it use to be.
The banana pepper dip was cheese and hot sauce. It was orange. And the pic online showed it with Bread but we got stale nacho chips. I’m talking not even crispy stale Then there was this squished thing on the floor and the waitress said “we can’t tell if it’s a food or a bug and no one wants to touch it so it will probably just sit there all night” Music too loud. Food all over the floor. Pop lines dirty and pop was flat. And the cook was also serving everyone’s food. We used to go here all the time and it was really good. It’s been a while, but I didn’t think that long. Yikes.
The food is OK. The wings were not crispy, could have used 3-5 more minutes in the fryer to get rid of the fattiness of the skin. The chicken fingers taste like they came from a box. The grapes on the salad were mushy... it's alright food, but there are other better options out there. The service though, if I could give a negative 100, I would. The girl only came to take the order, to deliver half the order and then to throw the check in our faces. Of course, once we saw the bill and realized that she didn't split our check between the 2 families, so she could add the gratuity to the bill, we figured out why she didn't come to check on the food - she was getting her 20% regardless so we really didn't matter. Tried talking to a manager who could have cared less. The last time I'll spend a penny here. Sad, after over 25 years of coming here we will not be returning. You can do better. Especially for $180 check. Check in on your customers! I shouldn't have had to get my own to go containers and had to ask 3 other servers for refills because you never came back.
