Colter Bay Grill Buffalo Reviews
This was my first visit here.I had a delicious beef on week. They had a nice beer selection as well. Very polite and efficient server.
It is a great bar with lots of beer and you can watch any kind of game you want to. The burger is good and you meet great people there if you want to. The ginger person who kinda looks likes ian gallagher from shameless (us) needs to get a free shot next time he's there. Peace!
The host went out of his way to get us seated. The food and drinks were delicious and it was a great atmosphere. We'll be back!
Lots of variety for drinks and the hostess, McKenna, was a bright star. Very friendly and helpful to guide out-of-towners on things to do in Buffalo! Would definitely recommend this place again
The owners and staff of Colter Bay are great! Their food and cocktails are delicious. Special shout out to Tony and Calder for being an awesome help when we had car trouble. We will be back :)
Food and service excellent. Good bar food, good beer and cider selection. Acoustics were a bit loud for dinner.
Wings and fries are are gluten free. This is sufficient for 5 stars. Wings are good, too, not the best by local standards but definitely decent and better than anything you'll find outside the 716 area code
This is a very nice neighborhood grill. We were there on Sunday so had a limited menu for brunch/lunch. Had a chorizo burro that was excellent. Best part, found a parking spot on street right in front.
Five stars for the double burger. It was one of the tastiest burgers Ive had in a while. Mac and cheese was very very good. The poutine was ok, but hard to judge because my fiid was delivered. But the burger was simply excellent.
I really enjoy this place when in town for a bills weekend... Good food, and the service is exceptional and the vibe is fun and upbeat.
Food was excellent Playlist was my jam - classic rock and great service. However, very loud when it was semi busy.
They have Gluten Free bread for the sandwiches (want that to be at the top). I have been here for happy hour a couple of times and found their beer menu to be extensive (2 full, legal sized pages), well organized, and full of beers for every taste. I decided to bring my girlfriend for food because they offer gluten free bread and I was amazed. We both had incredible sandwiches-mine was a short rib on griddled sourdough with white cheddar and arugula that I inhaled because it was so good, and she had an incredible chicken sandwich. The musician was also fantastic, the server was very friendly, service was quick, and the place is clean and nice inside. Definitely recommend checking it out
This my son's and I second time visiting. He loves it there. We came down for an event and I asked him where too he said Colter Bay. Very friendly staff and great food!
Our dinner was delicious. My daughter had the strip steak sandwich, I had the Patty melt. The French fries are freshly made, and the best I've tasted.
Very happy to explore their mead and cider selections! Steak salad was pretty good and hit the spot, if a little heavy on the dressing.
Good burgers. Nice beer selection, laid back atmosphere, decent not too loud music Friday and occasionally Saturday. A really nice place to grab food and good beer. More mature clientele than the other end of Allen, young professionals bar.
Always a great place to get a beer and a bite. Love the French onion soup on a cold Buffalo evening. Lots of great menu choices and very hospitable service.
Great fish fry every day with a thin crispy batter Great wings and beef on weck Friendly staff
Food is delicious. Beer list is insane! Over 40 taps. Nice atmosphere. Even though it is a bar, it isn't too loud. Love the ski lodge deco.
Excellent beer selection, warm ski resort atmosphere, Colter is a perfectly appropriate social center for frigid Buffalo. Escape to their photo ski booth, choose one of dozens to satisfy your beer preference, brave the cold to rendezvous after your latest ski trip from the mountains. This is Colter Bay, come hungry, come thirsty, they provide the heat.
Sat at bar, served by John C. Guy was very friendly, talkative and knowledgeable about beers. My better half enjoyed it. Both got Korean chicken sandwich, both cleaned the plate. Will be back, added to the rotation of places we go
Incredible food, superb service and great atmosphere. Craft beer selection on tap is well rounded and not to be missed if it's your thing. The wedge salad with buffalo chicken is a knockout! So good!
Colter Bay was one of the first restaurants I went to when I moved to Buffalo and they made a great first impression for this city's food/bar scene. I have been back multiple times and will be back many times in the future. The staff is always nice, I love the decorations on the wall and the food is awesome. Last time I was there I got the hot chicken sandwich (amazing) and my fiancé loves their beyond burger. They (seasonally I think) have an elk burger that is to DIE for but if they don't have that the Split rock is my go to here.
Good food and some good drinks on the menu. They pour more than just rum and cokes here. All the ski stuff on the walls is cool too. Clean bathrooms too!
Random stop off on an impromptu visit to Buffalo. Atmosphere was warm and welcoming. Drink selection was plentiful and my friends and I had a great time trying a bit of everything. Nachos were great too. Would come back!
Great spot for a beer. Excellent selection of locsl brews.
Great local bar. Ate 2 meals here - both excellent. Wide selection of beer on draft, additional bottle/can options.
Excellent bartender, selection of beer, and amazing cod fish fry. Most Buffalo bars serve haddock, cod is a much better choice. That being said, the coleslaw is not great. Not much flavor. Fries were really good, tarter is great too. Overall great vibe, and establishment.
Wonderful experience. They have an extensive tap list for the inner beer nerd. And all the food sounded so good I had a really hard time deciding. I loved my beat salad but the sweet potato fries were to die for! Especially with the light and sweet whipped maple butter
Positively amazing, our waitress Julie was the best and only waitress on a Friday night of fish Fry's. She was super busy and attentive at the same time! This establishment is lucky to have a woman of the skill she has. The Manager Christian came to the table several times to make sure everything was good, him and Julie could run the place together!! They are an amazing team! Lastly my old fashioned, my fish fry, and with an astrix, my French onion soup, was hands down the best I've ever had. I don't know what they're doing at Colter Bay, but I wish everyone was doing the same. I will be back because of the food, but I will be a lifetime customer because of Julie and Christian.
This is a nice restaurant. I went here while visiting Buffalo and was satisfied with my experience. This restaurant has the theme of a mountain bar somewhere out west like in Colorado, and it has a bar, booths, and high top chairs facing the windows towards the street. The table with the high top chairs is a large piece of wood. I got a lemonade with no ice from here, which tasted good. It tasted more like natural lemonade instead of minute maid lemonade. This restaurant also had multiple strings of small white lights hanging around the walls and ceilings, which created a nice aesthetic. After I drank my lemonade, I left, satisfied with my experience. I gave this restaurant five stars because it has a nice aesthetic.
Amazing service. Leo and Rose are such great servers. We had a celiac friend and they gave so much effort to make sure we were okay. We could eat here. Really appreciate it and will definitely be back!
came to Colter Bay specifically for the Impossible Burger a vegetarian sandwich that is only served at one of 3 area restaurants I've had the sandwich plain and wasn't impressed this version (a special) with veggie cheddar fried onions and cole slaw on a bun served with fries turned out to be much better. if you're expecting beef flavor I didn't feel it but everything is better with Weber's mustard Service was great thanks Sarah everyone was friendly and helpful. Another great place for a selection of beers and potables. Haven't been here since the new version of the Colter Bay Shatzel magic was put in place. Well done and pleasant atmosphere.
Better than you’d expect food. Fresh salad, good burgers, good fries, and the kids loved the Mac and cheese. Happy to customize orders. Friendly easygoing service
Everything perfect, tasty, yuuumyyyy!
Stopped in on a road trip from Pittsburgh Amazing food and service !!! Best wings I’ve had in a long time
Colter Bay continues to be one of Buffalo’s gems. The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between relaxed and lively—whether you’re grabbing a quick bite or meeting friends. Their beer list is outstanding, with an ever-changing rotation that always offers something new alongside trusted favorites. The food holds its own against the stellar drink selection. Thoughtful menu choices, generous portions, and dishes that are clearly made with care—everything I’ve tried has been fresh, flavorful, and consistent. Service has always been warm and attentive - which makes the whole experience even better. Colter Bay is the kind of place that works for both casual nights out and when you want something a little special. Easily one of the best go-to restaurants in Buffalo.
We were looking for a place that served fish fries other than Sunday and I had eaten at Colter Bay back in the 1980's so I knew they had good food. We moved to Tennessee 4 years ago and missed the local food here in WNY and we weren't disappointed. We enjoyed the fish fry and the beef on Weck.
We dropped in twice during our trip to buffalo, both times for drinks only. A great selection of beers. As an avid skier, I loved the decor! Wish we could have tried the food, the dishes that went by our table looked fantastic.
This place is one of my favorite places to go grab some food and drinks! Their drink selection has lots of varieties of beers and cocktails as well. As far as the food...I highly recommend the potato skins. They are soooo good! I got the spicy chicken sandwich last time, and it was the perfect amount of spicy/savory. I recommend this bar to everyone looking for a good time.
I enjoyed the vibe and atmosphere of Colter Bay. It had a bit of an upscale sports bar feel to it. I ordered the Corbet's Couloir ($14) which was a Bison meatloaf served in Texas toast and with mashed potatoes and gravy on top. It was delicious. The meat was tender and some of the best meatloaf I've had regardless of the animal used to make it. Paired it a Genny Cream Ale for a balanced and great dinner.
The bar is in a corner in Buffalo down town, they are very famous for there 50 different type of bears. Im Sommer Time they have an nice Space outside as well. It’s a modern bar with a very nice service team. The food was excellent. They have from time to time live Musik playing there. They have every day special offers.
Nice, but food wasn't as good as expected. Very greasy.
Colter Bay is a bar/pub that has a great selection of IPA, hard cider, and sour beers. The bar was renovated recently, and it's much better for it. If you're looking for a bar with a numerous selection of good beers, and a good vibe then give Colter Bay a chance.
first time.. when we walked in the host was nice. He asked that we wait so he can santize the table. Unfortunately when we went to order they had no potato skins nor pretzel bites. The waitress was the only one waiting tables and they were super busy. I felt so bad! After we ordered we got our appetizers but still didn't get our entree We couldn't finish the appetizer so we asked for the box for that item. The waitress brought us the bill.....still no entrees. So I asked if we can just get the remainder of of our food to go. This waitress was so overwhelmed and asked "what did she forget". We left this women a $15 tip on our 2 person $90 check.
My current jobsite is just around the corner, been ordering Beyond burger & fries couple times a week. Excellent service for the most part. Recently had to wait 40 minutes for my carry out, so that was disappointing, especially when no apologies were offered.
We were looking for a bite after a matinee at Sheas, and this is where we ended up. The food was phenomenal! Our server was great as well. Menu was a bit limited, but it is more of a bar, so that's expected.
Beer and cocktail selection is great, beers especially. The can and tap list is huge. They're big on IPA and sours. Service was great and as attentive as we needed them to be. Food was just ok. Solid spot for a date or happy hour.
Very nice. Wings were solid. Nice beer list. I was VERY sad that they no longer have Scotch eggs on their regular menu. Their Scotch eggs were the best I've ever had - and I used to live in Scotland.
Our server was so kind and really great. Beer selection was good and food was decent too. Burger over cooked but that's almost anymore these days. Maybe 8-12 tables outdoors, can't remember exactly. Will get a lot of sun outside but we loved finally being out on a patio. Umbrellas weren't working right outside but our server fixed ours for us quickly. For the service and selection and decent food at good prices, we will definitely be back. Thanks guys!
I had a great first impression of Colter Bay, they have an extensive beer and cider menu with a large variety of different breweries and flavour profiles to choose from. The patio was lovely on a warm Saturday afternoon. My family shared a nacho platter and some chicken wings. It was a great way to spend a Sunday in the long week end. I am looking forward to a return as the food looked very good.
Good vibe, tasty food, friendly service, good value. Our western family was wandering buffalo after a day looking at water falling over cliffs. Hungry after re entering the USA, we ended up here. The food was high quality, the service very friendly, and generally a good value. A satisfying bar food experience. I had the beef on weck sandwich and 5 wings, hot. Beef on weck is tasty, and I love dipping in the juice. Wings had good level of heat with nice flavor. The boy devoured his 10 wings with a messy smile. Sorry, no pic of the wings.... here's the beef on weck.
Popular late night group drinking spot for patrons in their young 20s. The dress code is smart casual and people are packed so tightly its often hard to get to the bar. Pro: great people watching Con: standing room only most nights and high pricing for quick service drinks.
Nice folks and a large selection of beers, although some of them seem to have been chosen solely because they were weird (although maybe that says more about the craft beer movement than the bar itself). However, the food was awful - over-seasoned, greasy, just shocking.
New look is good. I guess they must be paying back a hefty loan because the food is overpriced and the menu is small. Bartenders lack knowledge of beer menu and are not very attentive. A far cry from how this place used to be.
Great ambiance and cocktails. Food is hit or miss. Onion soup is SUPER salty (and I love salt) beef on weck and rib sandwich are just ok. Wings are not good. Pretzel, Salad was good though and so was hot chicken sandwich. The waitress was trying so hard but she was also the bartender. They need to order more people. It has potential.
Son invited me along with the S/O for a holiday lunch for family tradition. Honestly this was the third restaurant we tried. It was a Bills Cowboy weekend and a lot of out of towners were here. ( Not complaining. Spend your money and enjoy our hospitality !) So we sat down and waited. and waited and waited. Finally! Ordered a bloody Caesar and a regular bloody and a grapefruit beer. My regular bloody was so overpowered with black pepper it was hard to enjoy. No garnish -no olive no celery no pickle no nothing. Disappointing. Ordered our meal and really nothing of note. His double burger was disappointing beef on weck was cold and so were the fries I also ordered a salad and also got the fries for free. But the the waitress made it sound like I won the lottery because of the salad I ordered. That salad was actually very good. It was mostly arugula and the balsamic dressing was excellent. Sons double burger did not meet expectations and girlfriend ordered soup and salad. It was just meh. Son ordered a second bloody Caesar and was told he got the last of the Caesar (aka clamato). This was a big football weekend in Bill's country. I'm surprised these bars were not better prepared for busy-ness. We are a big bar city here and it seemed they were not prepared. Parking is non existent in this neighborhood. Grab the first one you see and be prepared to walk.
We used to Love the food here and would go often. The atmosphere was great. They had live music, which was nice. We Loved the dog wall and even had our dog's photo put up. We brought multiple people to this restaurant and bought multiple shirts. We posted photos of the food online and tagged them. I felt like we really supported this business, but we weren't treated well here. We had the worst waitress here we've ever had. She refused to accommodate any diet restrictions. We asked to buy one of the shirts and she replied, "I don't know if we have your size". I wear a men's medium. It's not an uncommon size. She never returned with the shirts and we had to ask another waitress. The menu changed. The prices went up. We no longer go.
We had 3 people and they added an automatic gratuity of 20%. Food was good but it's unnecessary for an automatic tip on a small table. Made this place seem over expensive 😡
If it was just rating the beer & service it would be 5 stars. The rating comes down just because of the food. Allso would've been nice to have the sound on for the Thursday Night Fireball game but that's not the biggest thing - I get it, some people aren't watching the game. The burger/fries were 3 stars, regular pub food but not great. But the real problem was the Nachos weren't worth it even being half price. If I had paid full price for them I would've sent them back. They had VERY LITTLE cheese, I'm talking 75% of the chips being BARE (?!). And if you're going to have nachos on the menu even at a bar, you just have to serve them with at least one salsa or just take them off the menu. A tiny amount of pico isn't going to cut it, especially when there's barely any cheese present. Just eat before and come for the beer. I don't know if there are better sports bars in town with better food and/or with the sound on for the game, but I'd recommend trying!
We got wings in a pot and extra wings. Compared to others very weak, soggy even though we asked for extra crispy and medium was pretty hot. Took forever to get drinks when place was empty and even longer for food. Not terrible but not good. Would've preferred to just have wen to Gabriel's Gate. Plus what is up with the constant drabby music, Friday night and feel like I'm going to fall asleep. Ok but definitely nothing special and not worth paying double the price per beer to hang out with slow 70s retro music and cheap pizzaria food ..
Typically solid, Friday during lent and served the most pitiful mushy fish fry I could possibly imagine, under fried French fries ok service very disappointing.
Love the new renovations. Great beer selection like before. I miss the old menu. Very limited and pricier than before. $15 before would get a wrap/sandwitch/buger, John colter's gumbo, and a pop. Now you're looking at $25.
Went there St. Patrick's day years ago, for the parade, the cover at the door was $20. After handing the cash up to my gf an her sister, when I got to the door, they told me they were full, an my gf had to come back to the door an get me. After I was in, my gf explained to me that they were perfering attractive women at the door, an the only reason I got in because she told them I was with her. The mixed drink prices weren't posted, an even though we ordered the same drinks at the same time, our drink prices weren't ever the same total. The food was good, an taking into consideration the place was packed, we didn't mind the wait. I was turned off by what happened at the door, my money should be good enough as anybody else's money. Were older people, maybe that was the issue, but I would be reluctant on handing over a credit card to run a bar tab at this place. We left an found a smaller bar that was more comfortable an spending the rest of the day there. I won't set foot into this bar again, an because of my experience there, won't be spending anymore St. Patrick's days downtown.
Glasses were dirty when they arrived at the table and when advised waitress seemed interested in fixing them. Once we finally got our food it was mediocre at best and no one came around to make sure we were still doing ok. Definitely won't be returning
My boyfriend and I went there for dinner on our anniversary. The food was incredibly disappointing. The "spicy" chicken sandwich was anything but spicy. Potato skins were oily and not crispy in any way. This is not the Colter Bay where we met 8 years ago.
This used to be one of my favorite places, but lately it's been horrible. A pretty pricey "salmon salad" was one thin strip of salmon on a bland bed of cabbage. An espresso martini was just a chilled glass of Baileys and the burgers were meh and very expensive for the quality. Overall very poor.
The service was excellent. The waitress was very attentive to our needs. The problem was with the food. My buddies wings were over cooked and burned. My burger that I ordered medium was over cooked and dried out. Very disappointing experience for my first visit. It will probably be the last.
Colter Bay. My first time here. The food is good but not "remind my waiter we haven't received our appetizer nearly an hour later" good. I've worked in the restaurant industry and I don't know if the server never rang in our food, got lost in the kitchen, or delivered to the wrong table but my experience says option 1 from the conversation after the reminder. First impressions are important and I'm not impressed. Server training is important. It can lessen this kind of issue whether it's the servers fault or the kitchens. May return since it's my first time but will be a while.
Ummm....I don't know what to say. We live pretty close so we've tried this place at least three times before tonight. The first time being in late 2020 and we weren't impressed. We were in a bind in late 2021 when my mom came to visit and we tried again. I had left a three star review after that, but eventually felt guilty and removed it because they're in our neighborhood. Since it's been several years we decided to try again. Their Instagram post advertised a smash burger and fish sandwich specials. Right up our alley! We called up and ordered takeout. The young woman on the phone was very pleasant. The pickup experience was fine...the food? Not so good and definitely not worth $18 for each meal. The double cheeseburger patties had a spongy texture and didn't seem like a smash burger. I'm pretty sure they're pre-formed frozen pucks...or at the very least they taste like it. The fish filet sandwich was crispy and initially looked delicious, but the actual fish inside ended up being soooo mushy...very unpleasant. I had to throw it out after two bites, the texture of the fish was so off-putting. The french fries that came with both sandwiches were generous and tasted fine enough, but they were all such short pieces. I mean, I want at least a few full sized fries, yah know? This disappointing experience confirms our opinion of Colter Bay...for the fourth time. We won't be trying again for a few years.
Don't go here for St Patrick's day ! They charged at the door, over sold their capacity, gave already paid customers who went out to see the parade a hard time getting back in while they were selling more entrances. The guard at the door was rude and nasty!!
I used to love this place. Covid killed it. It's half the size and the menu is beyond limited. Hard cider is their specialty. Pass it up, don't bother
Walked in man behind the bar was friendly said take a seat where you would like a server will be with you. Sat waited waited watched the server having a great time close to the kitchen. Gave it 15 and walked out.
I give zero stars I went out with my man and the service was terrible let alone there was under 15-20 people in the bar and grill. The waitress sat us next to a cart that had cleaning supplies and condiments, so we gradually moved to the next booth. While waiting for our complimentary waters deciding what to order we see a bug flying around just waved it off. While my boyfriend went to the restroom the waitress came and took my order I ordered a glass of cab and 2 shots of whiskey for my boyfriend she took the order and I then started seeing multiple bugs in my face. At that point just grossed out as to thinking of there is bugs in here what about the kitchen? Just penny for a thought as to why was this so unpleasant. Awe even went around the block passing this spot three times so I took that as it’s a sign it’s pretty on the outside Christmas lights and what not but to my surprise did not live up to what I hoped it would be. Also it snowed today not many things open so we chose to go out and come here to have a goodnight and was just surprised to find it definitely deserves no stars.
Came in at 11pm on a Sunday . Was greeted and told to take a seat. Proceeded to order at the bar and when my beer was poured it was dark and wasn't what the number on the menu was supposed to be. That was resolved but was then told it was last call, this place advertised that they are open until 2am. After I bought my drink and settled up I watched the bartender continue to pour drinks for their friends 30 minutes later. Good tap list, bad experience. Be warned
The food may be great, but I will never know. I have a spouse with many food allergies, and when I called to ask a basic, threshold question about ingredients, the person who answered didn’t know (which is perfectly fine), nor was she willing to find out (which is not fine), and then hung up while I floundered to clarify and ensure I understood the situation correctly. Pretty astounding.
Great wings, terrible service! We went in for mid day drinks and wings. There was nobody at the door to greet us so we made our way to the bar where the bartender told us to sit anywhere. We chose the high top bar/bench facing the open windows so we could people watch. After a few minutes of waiting, we went up to the bar to initiate an order. We had to go up to the bar 4 times- for menus, to order drinks and food, to get our drinks, and to pay our tab. It wasn’t til the 3rd time up that we were asked if we wanted a waitress- probably because my eyes widened a bit when the bartender shouted across the bar that our drinks were ready in surprise that he wasn’t going to bring them over. We politely declined at that point since we were already serving ourselves for majority of it. When our food came out, nobody brought us side plates or utensils. We ate, using napkins as plates, paid, and left. Never again will we be back which is unfortunate because the wings were pretty good.
Spicy chicken sandwich was like eating unseasoned chicken. You can see it in the picture. It was so bland, that I politely told the waitress it wasn't spicy and she said, "Yeah it's not really spicy at all. We get that complaint a lot." So you guys are aware of the problem and not fixing this? What? Also the French onion soup was close to a bowl of vinegar that we couldn't finish it.
Went here on a Tuesday night during trivia night. All the tables were reserved so we sat by the front window. I ended up staying a few hours and NO ONE ever sat at those “reserved “ tables the entire night. I also paid for my drink using my credit card. I had to ask the bartender twice for my credit card back. He seemed annoyed. I didn’t want to leave it open. It seemed kinda sketchy. The drinks were expensive and small. Bartender wasn’t very friendly. Ordered food, didn’t receive silverware. I don’t recommend this restaurant to anyone
I have never experienced such rude staff. Take your business across the street and avoid these people that clearly hate their work
