Peking Dragon Restaurant Dana Point Reviews
We came to this restaurant to celebrate a birthday and we were glad we chose this spot. The interior is very nice and well-designed. They have a very extensive menu, which can accommodate anyone’s taste, and we really appreciated them having the Peking duck, which was delicious. The waiters are a bit detached. Overall, we enjoyed our visit.
March 2024 update-delightful! Wasn’t sure the new management/ownership was going to get it right, but I believe they have! A few additions to the menu, wonderful, attentive staff, good prices, huge portions, and absolutely delicious Chinese food. /// previous Review: Good food, reasonable prices, same ownership and location for 30 years 💕💕💕
Finally, Chinese food on West Coast thats pretty close to East coast style. It was a picture of an egg roll posted by a reviewer that compelled me to drive 35 min in opposite direction from where I was headed. The egg roll size and external texture were close, the filling lacked the spices but had cabbage, shrimp and crumpled pork. Served with hot mustard and duck sauce. A win in my book! Also had a glass Japanese plum wine. My entree was kung pao chicken. It was properly prepared. Every ingredient was diced and in relative size. Except the peanuts, of course. The aroma hit me first. I just breathed in the aroma for a moment before my first bite. No disappointment here. The decor was original late 80s booths and backing in pastel and muted colors like teal and dusty rose. But well cared for and clean! Very attentative, mature servers. This is OLD school comfort American Chinese food - restaurant. Lots of food to take away too. A happy diner i am. Note: the menu is geared toward shareable dishes. Eg., egg rolls were 4 for 13.00. But the allowed me a half order.
We have been coming to Peking Dragon for 20 years and I am finally getting around to writing a review. Every single one of my experiences at this Chinese restaurant have been 5 star. This was a birthday celebration for my daughter and she wanted Peking Dragon. With the reservation for 7 we were seated immediately. We ordered drinks, enjoyed the atmosphere in our private dining room, and a little later we ordered food. We started with sizzling rice soup. And our main course included Mandarin Shrimp (our family favorite), Garlic Fried Chicken, Lemon Chicken, Shrimp Fried Rice, and Mu-Shu Chicken. At the end of the meal Kevin and team surprised us with Macha Ice Cream served with a candle and a smoky platter. So Cool! Our daughter was all smiles as we embarrassed her with pitchy and out-of-tune singing. What a great night at Peking Dragon!
Have been coming here since 2012 . I close to this place in 2012 but nothing compare to this restaurant service is always amazing the food comes out fast and fresh . We always leave this place satisfy and they make you feel at home thank you
Awesome garlic fried chicken in a spicy sauce And very good combination fried rice

Years ago 2011 thru 2016 it had the very best food and staff under Shane! We had several boats on docks in Dana harbor and that was our go to bring aboard for dinner. We aren’t in SOCA any longer (sadly) but I am sad to know about this
You can count on the food being very good every time. But naturally some dishes are better than others. The pork fried rice is not my favorite because the pork isn’t lean enough and instead of being in chunks it’s in strips which doesn’t spread thru the rice. I am fond of barbecue pork in fried rice instead of plain cooked pork. The pot stickers are very good. The beef and broccoli is tasty and not bland. The Service is friendly and fast. The atmosphere makes me feel it’s always a celebration to be there. And taking people from out of town there seems like a step up from other places. But what’s important to me is the cleanliness. It seems spotless. We’ve gone back many times and will continue to.
I have been dining at Peking Dragon for over 40 years and I can say without a doubt that the food quality has always been consistently very good every time! Love the lunch specials and the Sizzling Rice Soup! If you wish a change in the dish they have always tried to please. You won’t be disappointed.
Stopped in for a quick small bite. Service was friendly and prompt. Our server was nice enough to bring an extra plate so we could share one entree with rice Not a large order but the server was nice enough to bring an extra plate so we could share. Food was very good not over salted and fatty. Clean tasting food. Been to many Chinese restaurants all over the US and generally if you don’t order a large amount of food, the service declines. Not here! Will stop in again when in the area! Keep up the goodness of food and service! Thank you for being an overall very good place to dine!
We had an enjoyable evening as a family. The food, as always, was delicious. The service was awesome - everyone is always such in a good mood, it’s infectious. There was a fun raffle even happening - which was super fun and festive. And to top it off we got complimentary green tea ice cream with our check. A top experience from beginning to end.
We love Peking Dragon and have been going there regularly for over 11 years. The food is delicious and reminds me of the Chinese food I grew up with in Queens NY. The waiters and maitre'd are friendly and professional, with good service. Take-out is always quick

We enjoyed lunch here. I'm gluten free and they accommodated me. The service was excellent. I enjoyed the Szechuan Beef. The lunch deal comes with egg roll and soup. They sang happy birthday and brought ice cream for a guest in our group.

At this point, I wish they would take down the site. Obviously, it’s closed. Restaurant business is not easy. I had a friend open up one and if you’re not there 24/7 someone else will run it and run you out of money. But what a good time for someone to open a Chinese place now in DP. This is a unique area and a pretty much guaranteed clientele if the food is excellent as is the service and place is clean and nice. Anyone?
Been going here for five years. Always get the vegetable egg foo yong because it’s so delicious. Last two times I couldn’t find the mushrooms or water chestnuts and there were just a ton of green peas. When I got home tonight, I called and told the man at the front desk. He told me that there are mushrooms and water chestnuts in there. Yes, probably all chopped up but you can’t see them or taste them like you did when they were large slices. Completely changes the taste. So disappointed since it changed ownership.

This place is about average. The booths were aged and dirty. The food was average Chinese food. The service was good. Not a bad experience but I won't return. I did enjoy the eggrolls. But that was the highlight.

Bummed to see a decline in quality with the new owner. Rice used to be so good now it takes like its out of a box. Soup didn't have much flavor. Fried chicken is not as good and the sauce is also bad. It used to be a nice gravy now its a bbq sauce. I'll try one more time and update the review if my feedback is taken. Bad move to decrease quality of a business known for making quality food. Also entrance used to look classy now looks cluttered with tables with junk on it. Very weird.

This has always been one of my favorite restaurants in Dana Point. I didn’t know about the change in ownership. I pulled in and found the parking lot empty!! Picked up my usual order and the chicken was mushy and weird taste. I always ordered the Snow White chicken. Yuck. I threw the whole order out after tasting it at home. Stay away. Very expensive and not worth it.
This used to be one of our favorite Chinese restaurants but since it’s been sold and under new management, it’s terrible. Food is subpar-mushy noodles, gristly, fatty pieces of meat, flavorless hot and sour soup, etc- We went last night and place was packed, including several tables with 6 or more people. Nothing unusual there, but only 2 servers and no one bussing. Really felt sorry for the 2 wait staff. They were trying their best but they fell way behind. The guy who owns the place didn't help at all. He just stayed up front and kept packing the place in. Needless to say it was a terrible experience and we won’t be returning any time soon! And by the way, they got my phone number, probably from when I called in a take out order and now I’m getting constant texts from them about “two for ones” and dinner deals. To add insult to injury, they raised the prices to the roof. Bye bye, Felicia!
Never going back. We have been customers here for years. Never had a bad experience until today. Owner hung up on me when I asked to place a take-out order, stating they were busy and I had to order online. HUNG UP ON ME!! Upon going to pick up my $120.00 online order, I stated that it was very rude to hang up on long time loyal customers (or anyone for that matter!). He said they were too busy to take phone orders...but guess what? There were only 2 tables full, and NO CUSTOMERS IN THE WAITING AREA. He literally walked away as I was still talking, saying "ok, thank you"...I said we won't be returning and he kept walking off. Sad this once great spot has gone so downhill with the new owners.
