Good place for Chinese food, egg rolls cannot be beat, fast service!

So here's the scoop 😊. I stumbled upon this place over 10 years ago, but totally forgot what the food was like. Fast forward to a week and a half ago - my sick friend craved their large hot and sour soup and raved about the egg rolls and pork with garlic sauce. Today I decided to grab a bunch of stuff to try. So I got the hot and sour soup, wonton soup with pork, egg rolls, shrimp egg foo young, general tso's chicken, and pork with garlic sauce. Everything was 🔥, but the egg foo young stole the show. Growing up in NYC, my parents would get it from this Chinese takeout on the Brooklyn-Queens border, and OMG, their savory gravy was THE BEST. I thought that sauce was a distant memory, but NOPE! This shrimp egg foo young brought it all back, and my husband (who's not a fan of my egg foo young) loved it too 😅. Only thing is, now I gotta share 🤣. This place is a winner! Dee li shush indeed!

Being from New Orleans and craving big meat stuffed egg rolls instead of so much cabbage, I was thrilled to found this gem!!!! The food is great and the service is fast.

Love this place. They have the best egg rolls, made in house. I have never had food that wasn't great from here. The egg foo young is excellent as well. If you haven't tried them, please do!

The best sweet and sour sauce I've ever had , so sweet and creamy. Egg rolls are gigantic. Service was superb , fast and swift. Atmosphere was nice but it was pretty warm in there.

Best Chinese food place in Birmingham hands down. Their fried rice actually has a lot of vegetables and they have bacon fried rice. 🥹 It's great spicy. They also have hand rolled egg rolls not the generic ones. The service was great and I had my food in fifteen minutes.

Stopped here on a road trip from Ohio to Florida, and it was definitely a great choice! Conveniently located just off the interstate with plenty of parking. The food was outstanding—delicious options with generous portions, and the service was top-notch. Highly recommend it for anyone passing through!

This was the Largest egg roll in town honestly a meal in its self i got two to be on the safe side. 😋 I'm so glad I finally chose this place. Very reasonable prices. I also got (8pc) crab angels full size soup with sealed container. Love the hot and sour soup 🍲. Generous portions fast friendly my new favorite spot. I Called in to order pick up I live 5 mins away and it was ready. (Came right up when I got there) paid by tap via Chime. Via Samsung. Details bc I wish others would especially about small gems. Idt they are on door dash but that made it an adventure it's located into the shopping center so you can't turn directly at the restaurant but maps give you enough warning 😉. It's right next to the edge so you can walk to it and back. Just made date night out of a regular night. K bye.

I have been coming here for almost 10 years and the flavor and quality of the food has always been consistent. They make the absolute best Mongolian beef which is so so so so good I will not even get it from anywhere else. I’ve tried and tried so many Chinese places but Chop Suey Inn definitely takes the cake home 😋🤤 as long as they’re open, they got my business. The portions are very generous too and always hot!

Been visiting for several years now, it’s your typical Chinese fast food but service size is big and prices are very competitive. I usually get the spring rolls (they’re big), chop suey, rice noodles & fried rice. 12/2023 update. Looks like the dining area is now open and they're closed on Tuesdays.

My wife’s family has been getting takeout from here for over 30 years. This is a no frills kind of place and we love it. The portions sizes are great and you get your money’s worth. We love their General Tso’s chicken (I’ve tried it had dozens of Chinese restaurants and theirs is the best I’ve ever had!), the almond chicken, steamed dumplings, and their gigantic egg rolls. They have a variety of bottled sodas to-go if you need drinks. They always throw in extra sauces and silverware. When it isn’t the peak lunch/dinner rush, the wait is almost always 15 minutes. (Pro-tip: they typically are almost always closed for their family vacation in the month of July. Order takeout a few times in June and tip well! They work really hard.)

Consistently good food. Ran by great people. The Chicken Egg Foo Young is delicious and their egg rolls are the best in Birmingham. I really like the crispy shrimp, but it’s not for everyone.

The food was excellent. The best Chinese food I've had in a long time. The cashier had a horrible attitude. She acted as if the privilege was mine and not a mutual benefit

Recently ordered the sesame chicken. I have ordered from this restaurant in the past and mostly all very good. Today one of my orders was the sesame chicken. In the past the sesame chicken had a good, savory brown sauce. The sesame chicken i got with order tonight had a bright red/orange sauce and it was not what I expected. Did not enjoy at all because the red sauce reminded me of sweet and sour chicken which I usually do not care for.

Worst beef and broccoli I’ve ever had in my life! WTH. Pork fried rice 7/10. Nice egg rolls very big but also veryyyy greasy. Like dripping in grease. First time here but I dont think I will come back. A little overpriced for sure.

Return Review (09-29-21): After over a year since my last review I decided to return and see if anything improved. My last year review was a 1 out of 5. First the pros: Food looked amazing. I ordered the Mongolian beef, fried rice, and 1 egg roll. Beef was cooked perfectly. I think there's a technique they use to make it really soft, I personally don't care for the texture when it's really soft like that but I understand some people do. Fried rice was good. Restaurant is much cleaner Cons: Even if you call ahead you may wait a while. While the beef was cooked perfectly, there was little to no flavor and spice. The dish was listed as a spicy dish but it had no spice at all. I know a lot of Chinese restaurants lessen spice to cater to America taste but that was disappointing. I think you can request it to be more spicy. When this restaurant was at it's peak, I would order this dish and it was be perfectly spicy and it was not something I needed to request. Right amount of Mongolian sauce just needs more flavor. Biggest Con: Now the most disappointing thing to me is the egg roll. This place was known for having the best egg rolls in arguably the state. Not anymore. Took a bite and it had no flavor. Pulled it apart and now instead of shrimp the standard egg rolls come with some type of very bland chicken inside. Final Take: Score is overall better because the food was at least edible this time but the egg rolls have gone down and one of the most popular items, the Mongolian beef lacked flavor and spice. 6.3 / 10 Update: 7-16-20 Went today. The store looks cleaner. Ordered the Mongolian Beef with one egg roll. Egg roll was good. Only complaint was that the shrimp inside was not deveined. Mongolian beef was horrible. It had a bland taste and had this weird powdery texture to it to it. Took like 2 bites and just trashed the whole meal. Original Review: My experience here over the past year is that their food is good. Great food, the best Egg Rolls I've had anywhere. The service is questionable especially when they would be busy. Guy at the front would argue and yell at other staff members on top of the store not being the cleanest. I stopped going when I saw a roach two times in a row. My experience is that if there's one roach there are more in other areas. Especially when you visit multiple times and see a roach every time. Really good food, just bad service sometimes and roaches. The negatives could be easy fixes.

Spent 16$ on the most mid lo mein noodles ever. Genuinely I think it was spaghetti noodles and chicken with no seasoning. Also they have no bathroom or hand sanitizer

Lack in food preparation. I ordered shrimp egg foo young. In the past the shrimp were defined and worth the price. I ordered last week they were not devained and the shrimp were smaller. For $15 this was a rip off.

This place is an absolute horror. Order orange chicken and literally got orange chicken along with extra hard burnt fried rice. The taste is horrible. Honestly don't know what to call this. Am embarrassed to asked for my money back. But they should not charge as much as they do. This was my first and last visit here. I know other places who charge less and the flavor is amazing. Only if they were in this area you guys would be out of business.
