Hippo Burgers Houston Reviews
Just a little shop attached to the truck stop with diesel lanes but every time I eat here the food is amazing. The burger is 100% quality beef and I add a fried egg on top. The fries are perfect. Definitely a great place for burgers.
Drive thru. Had to try the Hawaiian burger, was so good and perfectly portioned. Next time I'm going to ask for rare. Onion rings were large and in charge as well!
The #7 avocado burger combo was great. The burger was cooked fresh. The French fries were perfectly seasoned. The combo came with a medium drink, a very good price for the amount of food you get.
Great little burger place! Service was prompt, food came out within about 10 or so minutes after ordering. The mushroom burger was seasoned and cooked perfectly... great flavor and juicy. Tables are a bit small.
I had the huge 1/2lbs Hippo Texas Burger, Chili Cheese fries, and Chocolate shake. The burger was surprisingly . . . . Amazing! Cooked fresh and medium well. French fries . . . Insanely good. And the shake . . . I'm not a sweets person myself, but I had three quarters of it before I even started eating anything else! Don't sleep on this place. Was my first time here, I'm from out of town. My first of 5 days here and I'm sure I'll go again at least a couple more times
Love love love this place!!! It's like a hole-in-the-wall burger joint you can count on! Some of the best burgers I've had in the area. I stop in here when I'm on my lunch break and dine-in with a co-worker from time to time because it's close to my office, but my family also orders delivery from here too. They are quick, delicious, fresh, and filling. More than enough!!
I’ve been wanting to try these guys for a long time. They did not disappoint! I purchased a blue burger alongside onion rings. I haven’t had a burger like this in a very long time! What ever burger you decide to get you will taste everything. It’s not your typical burger joint. they are always fresh even through the drive-thru. Highly recommend stopping here for a great tasting burger.
Solid experience all around. Service wasn’t over the top, but it was just fine. Everyone was cordial and respectful. Plenty of parking next to the convenience store, and looks like an easy drive-through. The burger was huge! Fries were perfect, and the fountain drink didn’t taste watered down like most places these days. It’s not a typical fast food place at all. A bit on the pricey side for a gas station burger, but I’m telling you this is a great burger!!! The kind of burger I’ve been looking for at all these so-called “top rated” burger joints around the city, with practically zero luck. I wish there were a hippo burger in my area. This place needs to take over. Every other fast food place besides Culver’s, and a good location Whataburger if there are any left, just doesn’t compare at all. Houston, have some adventure and go try this burger. I got the bacon cheeseburger, and it was loaded with amazing bacon. So much amazing bacon, it’s sticking out of the sides. Now that’s something you don’t find in a fast food burger these days. Check out the pictures I posted. Place was extremely clean too!
1st off to be clear, I was informed the prices are supposed to increase tomorrow, so my photos of the menu today may be outdated by the time you see them. I was curious how good this place could be. The pictures on the menu look amazing and most of the reviews would indicate that as well. I ordered the Hippo Sriracha Burger and it was amazing! The patty was thick and juicy and was even bigger than the huge bun. The toppings were fully loaded and did not disappoint. They even have jalapeño ketchup at the tables. This was definitely a great choice when I was searching for where to try for lunch!
I didn't plan to eat here, I pulled in here to put directions in my phone. Then I saw Hippo Burgers looking straight at me and I was hungry. I decided I could use a good burger, for health reasons I don't often eat burgers and fries! This was a really good burger, fries were way to heavy on the salt! They had a variety of ways to have a burger and I just chose a regular cheeseburger and it was good! I love that they offer tater tats, next visit maybe? Staff was friendly and restaurant was clean. Cheeseburger and fries were $12.
I’ve been anxiously wanting to try this place for a few week now. I ordered the Hippo Special , I had to wait about 5 minutes for my order, but that’s absolutely fine! I never complain about waiting for hot food!! I live 4 miles away from Hippo Burger. When I got home my burger was still to hot to eat!! 😲 I was definitely impressed by that!! The only negative thing I have is that The oversalted the fries. I couldn’t even finish them . So if you order fries tell them no salt or light salt
Good food. But don’t like going threw the drive threw. One speaker is blurrrr. Can’t hear or understand anything. Pulled up to the window to notice u can’t see inside. EVERYTHING is covered. You won’t know what’s going on with your food or your debit/credit card. Won’t be using the drive thru again.
--2025.08.27 Same quality as always. Nice hot burgers and fries. Still friendly staff. Will keep them in mind the next time I would like a burger at work. --older I don't remember when I went here but have been here twice. And the staff is friendly and the food is super hot. While they make me wait it isn't long. And I'll take the wait for good that's this good and especially this hot!
Chose this place out of others in the area as this place was close to my next destination and wondered how the food is. Established next to a gas station, the building is on the left side and upon entering, the atmosphere is small and minimalistic. Not to say it’s bad, but you go there to get your food and eat. 4/5 On a Tuesday during evening it’s not empty but not crowded, I’d say around a few people. Customer service is expected (ordered my food, pay it for it, no issues) I got #1 on the menu and Vanilla Shake for around $18, including tips (15%) although tipping culture and how it’s shown on the machine is pretty much “emotion-guided” if you feel bad about not tipping. Without tips it’s still a bit hefty on price. Price is 2/5 The Hippo Burger (#1 on menu) - Texture: 3/5 I honestly expected the patty to have at least some juice in it but it does fall apart easily, showing that it’s lean from what I can tell. - Flavor: 4/5 The smokiness from the patty alongside the acidity of pickles and crunchy veggies gives it a nice “burger” flavor. Although has similar flavor to a whataburger burger. Overall rating: 3/5 Lower side if you prefer a juicier burger, otherwise 4/5. Take note of the buns though the butter pairs well. Shake (Vanilla) - Texture: 3/5 I’d say from a thickness scale from 1-5 (low viscosity to highest) I’d rate it a 3. Not too watery like water but not thick to the point you can’t drink from it. - Flavor: 4/5 I assume a shake will include mixing in ice cream and milk to make it, as this drink is slightly sweet, combined with the flavor of milk and vanilla ice cream. Comparable to chic fil a shakes honestly if I had to relate to another chain. - Overall Rating: 4/5 I couldn’t find anything noteworthy, but a vanilla shake is a vanilla shake. Overall place rating: 4/5, although I do not recommend myself to come back again because of prices and other chains have competitive prices with almost the same quality.
Burgers were ok, I personally felt they were over hyped. Plus the prices were rather high. However, burger meat was thick, bacon was crisp and the establishment was clean and taken good care of. They do have tea, you just have to request it. It's a good hamburger spot to check out if you're looking for something different than the normal fast food hamburger place and definitely worth going back again in the future.
Burgers were good. Service wad a bit slow and it was very expensive compared to other options. Worth a try but based on our experience we would choose cheaper and faster next time.
Awful. Prices on the drive thru menu aren't accurate. Way too expensive for the trash they sell you. They toast the buns so they can get away with serving you extremely stale bread. Chili cheese dog is gross (every part of it tasted old). Hamburger is decent, but on stale bread. Milkshake is okay, but the whipped cream is synthetic. I assume they're reheating yesterday's leftovers based on the taste. This makes no sense considering the horrendous wait time in the drive thru with only one car in front.
