Mr. D's Diner La Verne Reviews
One of those spots where you feel at home on the first visit. Only spot that gets my wife's eggs right the first time. Great food reminds me of the diners of my younger years. Prices went up recently (to be expected). But still will worth it.
Great food, chill vibe, the place is very cozy and nice to enjoy with family.
My wife and i have enjoyed this comfortable retro-dinner for several years and this morning we stopped in for breakfast. The Route 66 decor takes you back in time as you drive up and enter the doors, so that’s a good start. As for our breakfast, our eggs were prepared deliciously, the portions of the sides were generous and the salsa was zesty. Our servers were friendly and attentive and our order arrived quickly. We continue to be satisfied with Mr. D’s!
It's so good that I went out of my way to stop at this restaurant. Very much worth it. Unconditionally the best restaurant I've ever gone to. The breakfast burritos are momma's cooking, they're *inspiring.* Nice and hot and wonderfully priced for being year 2024. The service is fast, the five people working there are super pleasant. It was a busy day today -- all the tables were occupied on a Friday morning -- and they were still on top of us and everyone around us! And the whole place is clean! Not just that it's a throwback to the 50's but everything is kept clean. Hugely recommend.
The best meal we've had in ages. Portions were very large. The food was piping hot and very good. Our server came by to check on us many times, despite the place being pretty busy. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming.
I came here for the first time on a Sunday morning for breakfast before work. I wasn’t expecting much as Sunday mornings are insane at breakfast places. Food is usually not prepared well and the workers are overwhelmed. Well hot damn! Mr D’s is a well oiled machine! I sat at the counter and ordered a mimosa (yeah yeah, I’m a bartender so what) I got my drink right away. I ordered crepes and I even ordered poached eggs, on a Sunday! The eggs were perfect! I cannot wait to try other meals and days. Thanks Mr D’s for being local and awesome!
This place used to be great. It's clear they're facing the same challenges many businesses are right now – understaffing, maintaining cleanliness, and keeping up the pace. I understand that service can be slow and staff might be feeling the strain. Despite these difficulties, I appreciate their continued effort to stay open. I wish them all the best.
Great staff and great food and decently priced still. The only downside was that the food took a while to come out, but we came in at the same time a bunch of other tables came in, so I completely understand. It also looked like they were short staff but all staff were working hard and still did a great job
The best part is the service. The food has large portions. The breakfast burrito, salmon ,chicken Marsala, pancakes just phenomenal
Such a great diner with great food and portions!
The food was absolutely delicious! Family friendly. The server Juan M. went above and beyond. I ordered a California Burger (Delish) and our server came through with the yellow chili's! Made my Saturday morning. Thank you! We'll be back.
We are visiting the area for a month, staying in an Airbnb nearby. Our first visit was out of convenience and we were impressed by the freshness and preparation of the food and the friendly and accommodating staff! I recommend the spinach chicken salad, with blue cheese dressing on the side.
Food was good but very rude waitress! Forgot the name but based on other reviews it might be the same one.
Love this cute 50's Style Diner! Great Food! Try their Chic Tortilla Soup!
My son took me here for Mother's Day and now I take my friends and family here. The service is great and food very good 😋🤤
Great place! Awesome customer service. Delicious food. I'm in love with the potato soup. We had the blackened salmon, the country fried steak, a pastrami and a club sandwich. 4 meals with 2 strawberry margaritas, a strawberry lemonade and a budweiser, came to $135 (Not including gratuity) Everyone was satisfied :)
I went with friends on a Sunday morning. Some of us had breakfast and some had lunch. The wait was short and the staff was very friendly. While waiting to order, Eric the red magician, stopped at our table and entertained us with some amazing magic. Apparently, he is there every, other Sunday. Eric was a nice surprise. He was very good and very friendly. They have an extensive menu with a lot of options. I had the croissant breakfast sandwich and my friend had the fajitas. All of our food was delivered promptly. Everything we had was delicious. I had no complaints. The magician was a nice addition and I will be going back!
5 stars for being so good over the years. Change the san dimas skillet name back. I wonder if this is the same place that started in a little spot on lone hill mid 90's. They had the best local food . It was called Mr Ds.
We had our “ole guys “ breakfast there last week. It’s a great senior citizen discount place. Great food great service.
We were a party of 5 and each ordered a different dish. They were all huge and very good. It was our first time here but we will be back.
You may already know about this place, Mr. D's Diner has been serving great food with wonderful customer service for years now. My latest trip was no different, Thanks to my hostesses, Nok, Gabriela, and Yessi. We had the Turkey Dinner and the Lasagne. Good portions, we could only eat about half of each. Its leftovers made for a good lunch the next day. It was a beautiful day, we ate on the patio, with a nice breeze. Try it, the Turkey Dinner was delicious.
Walls had photo paintings of landmarks. It was interesting to look at. Clean kept us 6ft apart from next table. They ask that only one person at a time to the bathrooms however you are not sure if someone is already in there. It looked short staffed but they did very well on checking on us and getting our meal within a timely matter. Amazing food 😍 my kids and I would love to go back.
Our lovely waitress Susan really took care of us at dinner tonight. She is a walking light of joy, a true angel in our presence. Will absolutely be coming back to Mr. D’s!
What an amazing dining experience! I enjoyed every bite. The fried zucchini was amazing, I had a delicious chicken wrap and my son had burger that was 👌my dad enjoyed the pastrami and my mom had a very tasty surf n turf platter! We even took a couple of brownies home and they did not disappoint! Plus we had an amazing server. Couldn't ask for anything more.
Food here was bomb and the portions were big. Got the stuffed French toast with nutella and strawberry and, the pastrami sandwich with fried zucchini. The atmosphere was cool, very 50s diner classic vibe. Inside was nice and clean. Over all great place! Will definitely come back again
Delicous and cozy 50s style diner with atmosphere and high quality burgers. The chili cheese fries have so much flavor. The waitress Susan is always so kind. The "Beast" burger is huge! Get it with onion rings!
Service was quick and efficient at the counter. Food was warm, good portion, well prepared. The staff smiled and were good natured. The place is nice and clean. There is abig dinning area. If you are in a hurry like I was, it's the place to go.
If diners had a Hall of Fame, Mr. D’s would already have its jacket hanging in the rafters. From the second you pull up, you know exactly what you’re getting — classic chrome, old-school vibes, and zero interest in being trendy. This place isn’t chasing food fads. It’s too busy doing what diners were meant to do: serve real food that actually tastes good. Let’s talk about the plate, because this wasn’t some sad diner stereotype. The shrimp skewers were legit — grilled perfectly, seasoned right, and cooked by someone who understands that shrimp shouldn’t be rubber bands. The grilled vegetables? Fresh, colorful, and not drowning in grease like they’re trying to hide something. Even the bread showed up warm and confident, like it knew it belonged on the plate. And that’s the thing — everything here knows its role. Nothing is pretending to be “elevated.” Nothing is trying to impress Instagram. It’s just honest, well-executed diner food that reminds you why diners still matter. Inside, it’s peak Americana: counter seating, booths, stainless steel, and the unmistakable feeling that this place has been doing it right for a long time. Outside, the building itself is a time machine — the kind of spot you’d expect to see in a movie where the food is always good and nobody leaves hungry. Service? Friendly, efficient, and refreshingly normal. No forced cheer. No attitude. Just people doing their job well — which somehow feels rare these days. Bottom line: Mr. D’s Diner isn’t trying to reinvent the wheel. They’re just making sure it rolls perfectly — every single time. If you want a diner that actually delivers on the promise of a diner, this is it. Five stars. No notes. I’ll be back.
Got 2 meals for 11.99 each..we missed the "until 9am" 9.99 breakfast specials..tasted very good. Cheaper than alot of other places and the food was very good quality. (Bacon wasnt paper thin...french toast was very good..and pancakes were very good...Not disapointed at all. No complaints..except..restroom a little dirty.....no buyers remorse. Will go again...inside was awesome looking .very nice waitstaff...2 meals for breakfast 11.99 each 2 coffees...11.99x2...total 36 and some change and some change including tip..very cool murals all over the walls from old 50s times (elvis..lucy..Marlyn)
I was totally impressed with the whole experience. Compared to most restaurants, this place feels much better. For example, Mr. D's taste much better than any Denny's etc. The food is definitely higher quality than Denny's for example. My mashed potatoes and gravy for the first time in I don't know how many decades going to a restraunt actually came out piping hot! The food tasted very good and fresh. I highly recommend that you go to this restaurant and check it out and see for yourself. Please make them a 5 star review so they don't go away. Also, there are Tesla chargers out in the parking lot. You just can't beat this place! You can charge your car while you eat pleasant food for a change for the better! 😀 👍
I came in for lunch today, feeling grouchy and unsure about anything in that moment especially what to eat. I just knew I was hungry. The waitress was persistent and understanding of the harsh world we live in. She helped me decide to order a gourmet burger, which was the perfect choice. The burger and fry’s were absolutely delicious and cooked perfectly the presentation superb 🤌🏼 once I finished eating. Everything made sense to me in my life again Mr Ds sent me on my way feeling fulfilled full and happy again thanks for the excellent service and food. If you’re thinking about eating here don’t think twice just walk in
Had a delicious breakfast of Denver omelette with a side of home fried potatoes and a pancake. Everything was absolutely delicious, those potatoes are to die for, can't wait to bring my husband back here to try them. The service was great, and the price was good as well. I left full and happy.
I was in a terrible mood yesterday and had no appetite today. I found this restaurant, which is very close to San Dimas, and I came here with the mentality of giving it a try. When I arrived at the door, I was attracted by the retro style of the building, as if it took me back to the United States in 1950. I like the design, decoration, atmosphere and traditional food here. The fries are great and the coffee is mellow. I hope that milk can be provided in the future. It will be perfect. The waiters are enthusiastic and sincere, and all the diners are so simple, kind and friendly. I will come here often, after all, we are "neighbors"
This place is lovely, has great staff that is friendly.Oh and there for is definitely delicious.

Love this place! Great food. Good beer. And great service. The patio is an amazing place for a large group. The staff and owner are very welcoming and kind.

Excellent costumer service and delicious food. Restaurant is always clean and servers are quick to take care of customers
Love this as a pitstop, but don't be in a hurry. Enjoy the mountain of delicious food. Nothing we have ever had has disappointed us.

Food is decent and service is good. Quasi 50's diner atmosphere is nice. Portions are large but a bit pricey. Better for breakfast & lunch. If on a budget & a $15 breakfast is not your speed try the specials on the back page of the menu. Only $10 for these.
The food was good as usual. That hasn't changed at all. The service was terrible! Our waitress basically ignored us. We had to ask another waitress for help on more than one occasion. I was greatly disappointed in the onion rings. They were terrible. I had to trade out for french fries which came to the table at the end of our meal. I did not get to enjoy them.
We visited Mr. D's diner on a Monday evening for dinner. The wait staff were very nice, and we were served our dinner promptly. I ordered a BLTA sandwhich, it came with minestrone soup. My husband ordered the feta omelet which was sizeable and, if you like feta then you will love this omelet because the cheese was chunked in large pieces. The coffee was wonderful.
Stopped off on a whim. I got the burger with mushrooms and BBQ sauce. It was very good. Wife got avacado sandwich. Also good. Daughter got breakfast for lunch. She loved the French toast but the eggs were very meh.
Cute little diner that we tripped over while on a road trip. We needed to use the bathroom, decided to stay for lunch. Try the Pastrami Melt, very good. The BLTA sandwich was also very good, with perfectly crispy bacon.
Great dinner, great breakfasts. I hated that the front lady did not seat us right away eventho there were avalable seating outside. She took a look at us and didnt like us, (racial matter) i had to ask the manager to let us seat. This happened to another couple as well. Overall the food was great
We were seated right away..my family needed to use the restroom we waited for my family to come back from using the restroom..then our server asks if we waiting for another family member I said "yes" he seen that they came back..that when we waited for our server...time went by...that's when I got to ask "who's our server " they pointed to another server...she said "no im not their server" she pointed to our server "Caleb"...we placed our food..I requested their "Soup of the Day" which it was Chicken Tortilla in a cup..he ask if I wanted "now or with my meal"? I said now...that's when I waited, waited and waited...I can hearing him talk about he wanted go home and watch the game..then I got my meal...and after finishing our meal..got the bill and ask to remove the soup charge since I didn't get it before my meal..he said "I'm sorry about that".. didn't bother to answer back...so if you want some good food try it, but as long don't get him as your server you might not get what you order since he busy thinking other things than serving you!!!
Mushroom burger was good. Got fried zucchini instead of fries; they were good but I like more zucchini, this was more breading, but they were crispy and not greasy. Big portions; burger order also included cup of soup. It was minestrone, which was good but it wasn't necessary. Too much food. I'd rather pay less and just get burger and fries. Fish and chips came with veggies and a bread roll and a soup or salad; again, too much food. My burger order (and hot tea), fish and chips order, Jr cheeseburger (and soft drink) order came out to about $45, not including tip. Service was minimal. Food came out quickly though.
Open since 1978 this is one of the classic, famous diners on former Route 66. The service and prices were great however, the food was just good and given all of the steep competition in terms of other diners in the area I had to give D’s a four, but overall we still enjoyed our breakfast. Inside looks as you would expect from the outside in that it is a traditional, 1950s retro diner. I have been going through all the diners in LA County and this was one of my very last ones on the list. It’s located in eastern Los Angeles, in La Verne, in a sleepier part of town. There is a large parking lot attached so parking was free and easy. Also, our server was very polite and just like all diners everything that we ordered came out very fast for a fair price. I usually get Eggs Benedict or a Country Fried Steak when I go to a diner, but this visit I wanted to try one of their newly added items: the Loco Moco. It was not the best version that I’ve had this year, but it was still really good, the burger patty was cooked perfectly, so were the eggs, however, the gravy wasn’t as tasty as some others that I’ve had recently. It was a very large sized portion, so I was quite full after finishing it. The menu does have a lot of other classic dishes on it, which I would try if I stop in again in the future. I would suggest this to anyone in the area, although there are a few other diners close by that I believe edge this one out.
Came in and wasn't sure to order the pastrami sandwich or pastrami melt. My waitress Hailey recommended the pastrami melt. I'm so glad I went with her recommendation! Rye bread with Swiss cheese pastrami and pickles! Absolutely delicious. And the fries are seasoned perfectly. Also ordered a coffee and tuna melt to go and spent around $40

The food is decent, though a fair warning when ordering delivery. Of the 5 times I've ordered, only 2 were complete based on the description of what you would expect. For the price of the food id expect better control on the food they're sending out for delivery. I can't rate the atmosphere as I've never sat down at the place, but with repeated mistakes on delivery I'm not sure I ever will. It's certainly worth trying as again the food was decent, and worst case scenario you get a partial refund from whatever delivery service you use if they forget food.
We did not eat there. We did not enjoy the vibe from the staff. Not rude but very dry.
Tuna melt just ok a bit salty. Fries and tater tots cold and salty. $50 for 2 people for lunch and its salty anf average. Will not return. No music playing in a retro diner. Bathrooms unkept.
We visited on a Sunday afternoon, I had the Country Breakfast, $16, below are grades and comments: > Eggs - F - I ordered poached hard eggs, but got them soft. They were returned to the kitchen, but never came back. I was offered a discount, which I accepted. > Potatoes - B - very good red potato chunks (I added ketchup before photo was taken) > Sausage patties - C - fairly thin and limp > Biscuits and gravy - B - One split biscuit with a tasty sausage gravy > Decaf coffee - C - average, served in badly stained mugs Recommended, just not the greatest breakfast

Hello Mrds, UPDATE 06/10/2024 AC is in working order this time. A FEATHER IN MR D’s hat an INFLATION SMASHER MENU! Older Review I’ve been frequenting your establishment for mostly breakfast over 13 years. Breakfast options and quality have been good, consistent. Generally speaking my patronage has been focused during the am with family. On my days off during the lunch time hours your place has been at the top of my eating establishments list. Today I felt neglected by your eating establishment. Your staff needs more support they could not keep up with dining customers effectively neglecting customers. As stated one of your eating establishments personnel the primary responsibility of Mrds management is to manage the restaurant when it needs attention. It is not possible to manage your establishment if no management personnel is available. During my visit I was the second I heard, observed to be the second customer request management attention yet none was available. In conclusion I would suggest Mrds refocus get back to what put you on the map all these years good consistent family dining a very important function which is Service is an important component. At end of the day what sets aside one good eating establishment includes service. Thank you
The inside was pretty cool. A lot of the theme is from the '50s. I thought the service was just okay. My food was not the greatest. The hash browns were gross and stale. I think the eggs made me sick. Later on the afternoon I was in and out of the bathroom till I went to bed. I won't be coming back
The very worst chilaquiles I've ever had. Just....really bad. We were a party of 14 and only 1 person rated their meal 6 out of 10. Everyone else was 5 and under. We will never come to this establishment again. Good luck.
Need to update my review. I guess when you get takeout the quality goes waaaaay down. I got the fajitas and there was way less meat snd the peppers and onions weren't even fully cut. Beans were cold too. So disappointed. This is the first time I've ever had a bad meal there but also my first time doing takeout. First, the prices went way up. Now you get penalized for taking it to go... bought the most expensive thing on the menu and still hungry. Review from 7 yeara ago: Great food. Great service. No wait unless it's Sunday morning. The outdoor patio is empty during the week nights and is my two year old daughter's playground!

One of the worst experiences I had as far as waitress ignoring me I walked in to pick up a food delivery and ask her a question she immediately told me "I don't know I don't know" without me finishing my question. This was very rude and I had to wait 15 minutes to get my order. My customer was furious and my tip was effected by their horrible customer service. I will never pickup their again. If you can't handle online orders don't do them... I can see why their restaurant is going down hill you need to hire new staff period.
I have to say service is definitely 1 star , at least in my humble opinion it. I've been to Argentinian, Korean BBQ restaurants where I pay 110 plus per person this place obviously doesn't compare yet they should still take their job seriously, be cordial , polite and friendly it's their job. Would never stop by here again. Left a terrible impression from all 4 people that I saw on the clock. I would suggest spending your money where they are more humble and customer service is actually important.
Both steaks were completely raw. Potatoes and peppers were undercooked. Tried calling but the lines were busy for 40 minutes.
This restaurant is so cute inside. Lots of nostalgic pictures of people like Elvis, Lucille Ball, and Dean Martin. The service and food was horrible! We stood at the front counter waiting for someone to say hello and seat us. Finally, a young man sat us. The waitress was very nice, but got our orders (and others around us) wrong not once, but twice. The waitress wrote the order wrong as we discovered upon reading the receipt at the of a very disappointing meal that we drove 100 miles to specifically eat. The egg was over medium, ordered over easy, the pancakes were hard, the hash browns were under cook and the bacon was like jerky. Everything was cold. We sent the food back. It wasn't re-cooked, they microwave it. What a waste of time and money. Try it if you like, but don't expect outstanding service or food like back in the old days as displayed in the restaurant.
I would not recommend Mr. D'S Diner, I had the payday omelet it was way over cooked I was expecting a light fluffy omelet but i got a dry crunchy mess. My tator tots tasted like oil they were brown not golden its so overcooked I couldn't bite it. The manager said it's the oil that's its old and it tasted burned not that it was overcooked. My girlfriend said the Beef dip and said it was okay. The waitress said she knew my food looked funny but brought it to me anyways.
False advertising and deceptive business practices. My wife and I have eaten at Mr. D's several times, we found the food to be average at best, but they are local and we like doing business in our own hometown. We have driven by Mr. D's and noticed they have two giant banners on top of their building for a breakfast special, $6.99 with two options. we figured that we would give this restaurant another chance and went into order the breakfast special and were told that we were too late, another waitress said it's only Monday through Friday. Looking at their sign. It shows a breakfast special and open 9:30. It doesn't say anything about any kind of time, constraint or days of the special. so we left the restaurant and will never be back. I called the manager of the restaurant right after we left and all I got was lame excuses from him about the special, I told him to go outside and read what his sign says. I'm sure that anyone looking at this banner that is displayed on both Route 66 and baseline Avenue shows of deceptiveness. If this is the way this business treats seniors, then I can no longer patronize this business and it's up to you if you want to patronize us business that advertises like this, local or not! Mr. D's needs to issue a public apology to the local residence of La Verne and San Dimas. Thank you for reading my post, Sincerely BH
Terrible experience, Ive ordered on door dash 3 times and all 3 times they forgot the avocado. The second time I called in to complain and was told they would "get to the bottom of it" and make sure it doesn't happen again. They told me they cant do anything about it to call Doordash and complain and they will refund me. Doordash reorder the same order, when it arrived, AGAIN no avocado. Called to speak to the manager Victor to let him know and he said "oh sorry it happens sometimes" did not care at all. He is very rude made comments like " what do you want me to do Im not gonna fire the guy" " I've worked in the industry 30 years longer than you were born" he told me he was busy to call back later and HUNG UP ON ME! Very disrespectful! A little accountably or compassion would have gone a long way but instead he was negligent and dismissive. Managers arrogant attitude reflects poorly on the business!
Staff here are incredibly rude. Came here 3x total because my friend wanted to come here. They either forgot parts of order or completely ignored us. Even if i went to the counter to ask for the rest of order they were extremely rude and wouldn't bring out rest of order. Will never return. Food was like ihop food. Mediocre.
