Dong Hae Sushi Lompoc Reviews
Dong hae sushi is the best place for great sushi. Everything on the menu is great clean and very friendly workers often they have given us a Complementary sushi dish
Absolutely love this place! The food is great and the staff are amazing. Very nice people! Thank you!
5/5 because they are great and it’s prices too, I highly recommend 😋
Great restaurants with amazing food and great service. I've been coming here for 10 years and the food only gets better.
Wow their food is excellent. And the people make the difference too.
Great place to get sushi during lunch time, always fills you up and the staff there are very helpful and friendly
Love this place wish they were a sushi buffet thou but that has nothing to do with it the food is excellent 👌🏼😊
Take out was timely and wait staff was excellent. Food was delicious, will be going back.
Wonderful food, and service! Come in at least once a week for the $10 lunch special!
Simply perfect. We have never ordered anything that was not exactly right. Great service too.
an excellent gem! unsuspecting and has a lovely ambiance and vibe. delicious food too
My favorite sushi place in town. really good tempura honestly everything is amazing and looks great too!
This place has the best specials and combination plates around. What ever you choose you won't be disappointed.
Amazing food great service and quick wait times !
I always have a good experience visiting this place. Excellent food, excellent service and beautiful and clean restaurant.
Continue to exceed expectations. Owner starts his day at 4 am to get the freshest possible sushi in North Santa Barbara County.
I've been going here since I was little and they never disappoint. My new favorite roll is the Evelyn Roll, Avocado 🥑, cucumber 🥒, langoustino, wrapped in salmon 🍣. Yum 😋.
Thank you for your warm welcome, we had a delicious meal!
Great Service at this place. I enjoyed the food and the environment. All of the rolls are handmade and fresh. I would definitely come back here multiple times. 5star review!
I love how friendly the workers are and their food always hits the spot. Reasonable prices and doesn’t take too long to get your food.
Excellent food and great service at a fair price. Hooked in the fresh wasabi and Korean hot sauce that they don’t upcharge for, like the other sushi places in town. Service is great and I’ll keep being a regular!!
I have been going to this place for years and I've never had a bad experience. The food is always amazing, the staff is professional, and they routinely change out the paper cup they use for a lamp shade when it starts to fade lol.
Staff is kind , great sushi chefs.
Portion size is large for sushi! Wonderful service, great price, and the most delicious sushi around! When you walk in all the Sushi chef's greet you like everbody know's your name!
Service is really good.We love the food is great
This is one of my favorite sushi places!! The best sushi Chefs, customer service, etc. I will always go here. Great value!
Have been coming here for years. The food and service keep me coming back. I always sit at the bar and the sushi chefs take care of me.
My favorite sushi place in Lompoc. Despite this being a very "American" sushi restaurant, the food is the best. Yet the prices remain very low. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu.
It was absolutely delicious!! I had the Chef’s choice sushi. And we got complimentary sushi that was great too!
Have been going for years is the best sushi place in town and every time I go I get some free food
Amazing food. Got the crab sushi that is fried. Don't remember what the name is but was very impressed! Incredible!
Great service. Top notch ingredients. The chefs were on top of it. The best sushi in Lompoc
Ordered up their happy hour deal. 3 different rolls off the menu and it was all great. The tiger roll, aloha roll, and baked lobster roll. Service was also great and fast. Not bad for the lil ol town of Lompoc!
If you go, sit at the sushi bar if you can - you will most likely get a sushi chef small complimentary appetizer to start. I have been here a few times in the past month. The service is friendly and food is good. Definitely a good value.
Always the freshest sushi in town , larger sushi rolls then normal . Awsome baked green mussules, sweet speciality items. Well worth it everytime , and they have an Awsome lunch special between 11 am and 3 pm. Still my favorite place on the coast.
Love this place...clean and the food is always exceptional. I met my youngest Grandson there for a nice meal and this place never disappoints.
Great service. The staff very friendly and welcoming. As far as the food, amazing and if you're not too sure what adult drink you want feel free to ask away they would recommend something based on what you like and you won't be disappointed.
I was a bit unsure about eating here so I asked a nearby person who has eaten here often He gave a strong, favorable recommendation. We tried it and enjoyed the sushi. My wife ordered the lobster rolls and would do so again. we will definitely return. Oh, and the prices are excellent. Finally an affordable sushi spot.
This place is a gem. Have tried all sushi restaurants in Lompoc and this is by far the best. Plenty of options for all family members. There food was fresh and delicious. Tried the chicken bowl and tiger roll both were good. There staff was friendly and the place was clean I highly recommend
The poke tuna never disappoints and I tried the H street roll. It was fabulous.
This place definitely joined the clean plate club! The sushi chef was fantastic and very friendly! We got a chef's choice 20 piece and it was 100% worth the price! The fish melted in my mouth! Will definitely be coming back!
Our family's favorite sushi place for years! For dinner we share a variety of rolls. Jalama, AutoZone, Las Vegas, & salmon are our favorites. The "lunch box" special is an AWESOME value!
I go with my friends to here, often, and we're always getting a couple things from the kitchen to try. We order so much when we go. I love this place. Definitely one of my favourite places to visit when my friends just south of Gavitora come to today.
Some of the best rolls I've ever had. Seemed a little pricey but the rolls were huge! So really a good deal. Some of their rolls are named after the stores around them, really funny. I was loving the Autozone Roll. Highly recommended.
I had given a bad review in the past but looking back the service was very likely affected by the COVID pandemic. If you compare sushi restaurants in town , Don Hae is the finest.
Went with the fam. We had a great time, everything was so good, we had to come back again. My favorite was the salmon skin roll the flavor was outstanding. We had a great time. Brandy gave us excellent service.
Food was delicious we ordered teriyaki chicken with dumplings 🤤 hand roll spicy tuna, Hawaiian roll and muscles. Everything was perfect! From the food to the music playing setting the chill mood to quick service. chef was awesome and gave us a complimentary plate of sushi.
I went here with my niece. It was her first time trying certain foods so we really enjoyed our experience. We went at lunchtime, around 1 pm, but it was quite busy. The service was great but a little slower than normal, simply because they were busy. The chef gave us a house sushi roll on the house which was completely unexpected but greatly appreciated. We left full and happy. The lunch menu was a great way to try a little bit of everything too. Highly recommend the deep fried cheesecake for dessert!
Quick service, great food, and very nice people. We don't get out to dine much cause it's way expensive to even exist these days, but we wanted to treat ourselves this month, so we went out on a lunch date. For just the 2 of us, it was a hundo with tip. Worth it? Ya, I think so. Went on a Wednesday at 3 in the afternoon. Only 1 other person was there at that time, so we got in and out within 30 min. Maybe affordable for some people but we like to take these moments as a "special treat".
Every time I am in town, I try to eat at this wonderful Sushi restaurant. They have something for everyone, and they have a huge selection of rolls, cooked hot Japanese food, lots of appetizers, and great service! The Teriyaki chicken has a delicious, charred flavor and the best sauce. Everything is always cooked perfectly and the sushi is very fresh. The portions are very good size. I think this is a Hidden Gem in Lompoc, and if you are looking for great sushi, try it out!
Great sushi spot in Lompoc! Had the best service!
Absolutely the best sushi spot in town! Supra (sushi chef) is a Rockstar! This is my families go to restaurant for all events, outings and meals. Yum!!! Get it to go all of the time too. Solid 5 stars!!!!
I love to come and eat at this place , it’s a family restaurant, with delicious rolls, my favorite always, lobster roll, a total of 6 spring rolls topped with lobster and that special sauce. If you dine in Cheff sent some Fried rolls while you wait or in between your meal. Honestly speaking you will not be disappointed.
My favorite sushi restaurant, hands down… and I am so picky about my sushi!! The rolls are huge, fresh, and are presented so beautifully. 👌🏼
Yay for super attentive staff and superbly friendly! Sushi was fresh and tasty and the Happy hour special rocks! Reasonably priced and great portions. We enjoyed, from top to bottom, James Bond Roll, Tiger Roll, and Hawaiian Roll.

I'm writing this review in my car after demolishing my Dong Hae house rolls because that's how good they were. This is my second time at Dong Hae and it's been great both times, although the house rolls were significantly more memorable. This place has come a long way from being a Wienerschnitzel. The vibes are cozy and sitting at the counter at night feels timeless. It's clean, the service is great, and the employees are friendly and polite.
We absolutely love going here to eat. It is a favorite for a quick lunch meet-up with friends, or a special birthday night out for the family. We still love to go eat there even though we have moved 45 minutes away. We'll keep going back because of the quality of the food. It's definitely worth checking out!
I love this place!! Chef and staff are friendly, professional, kind, caring and enjoy serving you. They make your dining experience a joy. Food is always top quality, eye appealing and extremely appetizing. I have tried a lot on the menu--and everything was OVER THE TOP-- DELICIOUS!!!! Give it 10 stars...you need to try this place!!!
We received excellent customer service from Mary today for lunch she greeted us with a smile, checked on us and just provided us with excellent service. Thank you! always my favorite place
I've been about 10 times over the last 5 years or so and it's been very good every time. One recommendation is to ask for more wasabi and soy sauce on your to-go order and then you'll give it a five-star review too.
We usually order the Hawiian, Rainbow, and Spicy Tuna rolls. They always turn out great! During lunch they also have great lunch combos that come with a variety of choices. Always a pleasure having sushi here. They never disappoint. Staff is very friendly! We will be back soon!

After 5pm, there are usually great specials you can try. Always a great place to enjoy sushi and Japanese meals!
Nice little place you can go and eat a quick roll or two and feel comfortable. Very friendly staff.
They have good rolls, friendly staff, and good service. I recommend getting the rolls and cooked food dishes.
Surprisingly good AND affordable. My only beef is that the sashimi seems a little small, but I guess you get what you pay for. That said, the food was still delicious and the service was impeccable.
Good old Dong Hae. Reliable, affordable, and always open. Fantastic lunch specials with great service and a generous dining area. Not the best sushi place but never bad.
They have a great lunch menu at a decent price.
We went for our anniversary date. They had a nice lunchbox special, and I was able to try several different kinds of sushi for a decent price!
Great Sushi. I ordered a Teriyaki Salmon meal for my husband for when I got back home. I ate it the next day. It was amazingly fresh, still. Wonderful.
Good service. Don't know how authentic Korean is this place. All the cooks are Mexican. Food wasn't bad. Little pricey though.
I am adding a update to the previous review they no longer are withholding drinks like they used to and i have nothing negitave to say about them any longer but feel it would not be right to just completely remove the previous review. So all i say at this point is currently theyhave excellent food, service, and i can not recommend them highly enough. Thank you Great sushi. Decent prices. I would give them a higher rating but they have one problem, whenever anyone orders a drink they will not bring it out until you ask the wait staff, if you don't ask they will not bring it but it will still appear on your bill. I have talked to many people about this issue with everyone experienced the same thing (most people didn't realize until i brought it up and think the wait staff forget because it's busy most of the time), including other customers, and former/current employees. The wait staff is instructed by management/owners to don't bring customers beverages they order, other until they ask during their meal. They are also instructed to leave it on the bill, unless customers say something. According to wait staff i have spoken to 75% ask for their beverages, or notice it on the bill thinking It's a simple mistake, but 25% never recieved a beverage and still pay for it. It's fraud, and wrong!!! If this was not a practice for this resturant I would give them 5 stars because everything else is excellent. I would stop patronizing them completely, but it's really excellent sushi.
Food was excellent, service very friendly, if not a little slow. I ordered a soda but didn't get it till the end of the meal. They made up for up by not charging me so it's all good. I'm going back for sure everything is delicious!
1st time here was great. The food was well worth a little wait for to go orders to process. The eel was exceptionally fresh tasting. The tempura, which I normally don't eat, was excellently light battered and tasty. The surprise house roll is excellent. Fresh Wasabi is on the menu! Some R&B came on near the end of our meal to create a nice vibe. We wish Dong Hae Sushi all the best and success!
Had a fantastic late lunch with hubby Richard Rodgers, at Don Hae. The food is outstanding! The staff are very nice. I recommend this place.

Depending on when you go the food differs, but the quality is always up there and the staff is always friendly, I enjoy coming here when I have the money.
Normally I would give theme a good review... Unfortunately I received horrible service our server did not get us any refills and that same person was flirting with three men while attending the cash register. It took her several minutes to attend us so we left unsatisfied and thirsty..
Food was extremely greasy and my salmon roll looked like a toddler put it together. This place is easily $5 more per roll than some of the other options in town and half the flavor.

They sat us down when the place was maybe half full. They gave us menu's and asked if we wanted water, we said yes. We waited for 20 minutes. No water. No service. We left after 22 minutes of being seated at our table. We went across the street to Umami Sushi, also maybe half full. We were seated, served water within a few minutes. Ordered within 5 minutes. Miso and Salad soon after. Food out in 20 minutes.

Portions has shrunk tremendously. Last time I visited ordered the lunch box tray.It looked like it was coming from children menu. A tiny piece of salmon. sushi pieces were shaved ( see through).I left hungry.
I want to like Dong Hae as I've eaten there many times starting from first month it opened. Fish was fresh, flavorful and well presented. Sushi bar varied from ultimate professional friendly sushi chef to snotty wanna-be hipster-type sushi chef (who I would avoid as I could not relax and felt rushed even if I never spent less than $90/person). Back then, and today chefs tend toward the less professional yet friendly in a used car salesman way. Table service was and still is friendly and, ummm, interesting. Just younger folk enjoying their job to varying degrees... its fine and not an issue. Now the food... sashimi is hard to screw-up and they don't. Fresh is what is needed and it's very fresh. The sushi rice is supposed to enhance the flavor of the item. It should have a bit of tang from vinegar followed by the hint of mellow/sweet aftertaste to allow the fish and any sauce shine. sadly their sushi rice is way too sugary. All I can taste is sugar or whatever they use to over sweeten their rice. Even worse most of their sauces are either from a bottle or bag with even more sugary flavor. This was not how it was in the first year or two. I've eaten at Dong Hae dozens of times with the last 4 yrs of visits leaving me with nothing but sugar aftertaste everytime I ordered anything other that sashimi. I have a difficult time recommending Dong Hae anymore due to the increased sweetness of their rice & sauces, to the point if McDonald's like feeling after a meal. Oh yes, one final dish that was the last straw for me. One of my favorite side dishes at a Japanese restaurant is seaweed salad. Fresh, crunchy and light. Last visit I ordered it...limp soggy and, again, pure sugary badness. Flat out the most vile item I've even eaten in a Japanese restaurant. Maybe it was the bottom of a week old batch? Maybe the buy it pre-made from some warehouse.? No matter that dish seed the deal for me. If you're a sushi lover stick with sashimi and try the rice to see how it suits your pallette. I see younger guests flocking to the rolls with the excessively sweet sauces so maybe it's a business decision to get their business. No clue but they have lost my business for a while. Otherwise see about other Japanese options in town for a while.
There are really only two kinds of rolls here...spicy tuna or california roll...the only difference is minor variations in what they throw on the top of the roll. It would be nice to have some variety/creativity in roll ingredients. The roll should compliment the fish and sauces placed on top of it, not merely be a generic vessel for their delivery. The variety of fish offered is nothing special, mostly just the sushi standards. Quality of fish is lacking. They confuse crab meat with imitation crab meat on their menu. The live shellfish offers are more gimmick than anything else and are expensive. I was also frustrated by the lack of knowledge on what was available on or off the menu by the staff. I have to say this is definitely not the best sushi in town by any means as the other reviewer suggested.
Normally I enjoy coming here to eat but I didn’t exactly get the best experience or customer service, I ordered a Newport Beach roll but instead was given a baked lobster roll and normally I’d shrug it off as a mistake but my girlfriend is allergic and she’d eaten a piece. When I called about it they didn’t seem apologetic nor did they apologize, they made a new roll at no charge but this could have been a lot worse had she eaten more.
Our second visit. The first was delightful. This time was very disappointing. The teriyaki chicken was cold. My beef teriyaki was barely warm. Tempura vegetables were OK. Service was slow, even though we arrived before 12. Next time we go somewhere else.
I had Dejanie G. take my order over the phone today @2pm and it they had a poor attitude + customer service. In the middle of me telling them my order, they started talking to someone else without telling me to hold on for a second or even saying sorry after the fact, just "what was it?" In a careless tone. They also lacked server etiquette and just stared at me while I went in to pickup. No "Hi" "Thank you" or even a decent attitude. Not sure if it was personal or she was having a bad day, but overall bad customer experience. Sushi is alright.
Food was poor quality and overpriced and the service was almost nonexistent. Immediately felt sick after leaving.
The 1 and only time I've been there I got food poisoning. Lucky I didn't have my son. This place is a big NO for me and would never eat there again. Go to Sake
Eaten at this place for a while now always spend about 100 dollars when we do this last visit I ordered it to go my rolls were cold like they came out of the fridge I called back no answer so I called the next day said I'd get a call from a manager never did called back today and just getting same run around probably won't be eating here again didn't even get to enjoy my meal and paid for food I ended up throwing away
That was the worst restaurant experience I've ever had. The food was disgusting. Who puts ranch dressing on steamed veggies in a sushi restaurant?
Horrible sushi. You can tell so much of it is frozen. The mussels were fishy tasting, the lobster roll was very salty & the Caterpillar role had no flavor. The fried calamari was over battered and very greasy. The service was pleasant.
Ordered ahead. Could see my food ready on the shelf and as there was aline to order I stepped up to let them know I was picking up. The waitress bluntly said she was helping everyone else 1st. Didn't ask me asingle question. Won't be going back.
This place used to be good but we had the worst experience tonight! The waitress took our order and never came back, we had to go and ask for everything we needed. We never got utensils and our 3 year old daughter had to start eating with her hands!! By the time we went up and asked for utensils she didn’t even want her food. Plus we had to go up to the counter to ask for boxes and then again for the check and never was able to get refills on drinks. The food was awful and insanely overpriced. We paid $90 for the worst food and service in town. Go there at your own risk!
ME AND MY FAMILY GOT FOOD POISONING. My 2 year old daughter thankfully did not eat the food that night, but myself, my four year old, and my partner were throwing up all night. They denied a refund, horrible business. Gave them a try one other time before this and each time the customer service is half decent. If you try to call they either dont answer or they give horrible service on the phone as well.
No customer greeting when first walked in( i was only customer) . Music sucked while i had to wait. Was charged for a wrong order, had to correct my own order and also had to go back and get the "extras"i ordered with the meal...not cool. The wasabi paste(not wasabi) was as flat as a nickle and same small size, plus 5 small tiny pieces of ginger, almost overlooked on plate. Not a great experience for first time plus people smoking weed outside in parking lot while i waited...Not cool for business while another older customer pulled into lot to be exposed to that experience. I will NEVER support this business from my experience today...we have too many other choices for better service and food quality to help this town. To the owner... PAY ATTENTION to how workers greet customers and what the food experience should be for patrons that would like to support family owned business's.
Horrible customer service, I stood going here years ago and decided to give it a try. Then I remembered why I stopped going here. The food is ok but the customer service is horrible. Waitress/kitchen staff messed up my order and forgot to make our food. After waiting over an hour and watching people walk in after us sit down and get there food we complained. They were unapologetic and rude and we ended up taking our food to go. There are far better sushi places in town with good customer service, better decor, and good sushi.Don't waste your time!
Paid $50 for something I definitely could have made better myself at home. The worst sushi I've had in the county. Chewy fish, dry "teriyaki" and tempura that was seemingly made with cake batter. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place.
