Sushi Ryokan Seal Beach Reviews
We were in town for a basketball tournament and picked this place since it was close to our hotel and had great reviews. Let me just say the sushi here is legit. We live in the Bay Area where there are tons of sushi spots, but honestly, most of them aren’t that impressive. This place blows them all away. The yellowtail was super fresh and meaty. The lobster roll won the best roll of the night and is packed with flavor. I also noticed that every dish coming out of the kitchen looked amazing. They clearly care about presentation. Service was great too. Overall, this spot is tough to beat. Not bad at all for a sushi joint in a strip mall! Definitely recommend checking it out.
Very good food, very friendly service, the lobster roll was amazing and the presentation was lovely, would definitely recommend
In town for the US Sumo tournament and wanted some sushi. This did NOT disappoint! Sat at the sushi bar and asked the sushi chef for recommendations. So many unique and awesome rolls! Highly recommend the Lobster Roll. It melted in our mouths. Sushi chef Junior was amazing. We let him pick several rolls and each one was amazing!
Outstanding sushi, good Japanese beer, and box lunches. Great value and delicious! A must go for sushi while in Seal Beach! Ate here again and as expected amazing, delicious, and great service. Still the best spot for sushi in Seal Beach. Yummy.
The staff was wonderful, they were very attentive and the service is top-notch. I ordered the Halibut and Ikura sushi and they were both amazing. The halibut had a really good sauce drizzled over it. The Tripple Tuna Roll was amazing. One of the best rolls I've ever had. The Kiksusui sake was also delicious. It was light and refreshing. I wish I could have tried everything.
First, I would like to say that the staff here is amazing. They always make you feel welcome and very professional. The food was good but they do have a different take on some of their dishes which was fine. A hidden jewel away from the strip of seal beach. Overall, I would definitely be back.
It was an excellent experience... BUT, it I announced in the entrance by the door, 10% discount if it is paid cash At the time when I was about to pay I was advised that combos and the entrees won't qualify On a $100 + bill only was applied $2.00 I will love to go back ... now I just know isn't true no 10% on cash...
The creativity, execution, and quality of the sushi here is out of this world! My first time here, and they have made a lasting impression. Alberto was my sushi chef and he was phenomenal! The chirashi bowl and the ocean trout sushi were too good!
The sushi is packed w textures flavors and is an amazing sushi experience. The walls have wonderful murals. The staff brought so much more to the table than just service. Amazing treat for us this Valentines Day. Had to take a pic when I came up for air!! 🤌🤌💯💣
It was excellent experience, the sashimi quality and presentation was the highlight of the dinner.

Everything tasted fresh and delicious lunch specials allow you to try multiple rolls. Tried various rolls my favorite was the Spicy tuna tempura rolls. The jalapeño bombs and various other rolls were all delicious.
I ordered the Whatever Roll and it was delicious! Presentation was A+. The service was good too. It was my first time going there and it didn't disappoint.
Great selection of yummy rolls. Everything is fresh and service is excellent. Our favorite sushi spot!
An extensive list of specialty rolls that seems to invite curious palates to just keep coming back to try everything! Very consistent across the times we have been, as well.
The sushi was amazing. Every roll (we ordered 4) was delicious & tasted fresh. We had never had a roll with cucumber of the outside but it was SO GOOD that even my kid who doesn't eat veggies said it was pretty good. That is a major compliment- trust me! Presentation is very important here. Beautiful plating. We are not much for it, since we know we are about to destroy it, but every one of their rolls looked appetizing & that matters. Service was good. Happy hour is not daily. It is just Mon thru Thurs. We missed HH but I feel like the meal we shared was worth full price. Next time we are in the area, we will visit again!

Food was very good and you could tell how fresh the fish was. The menu is HUGE. I suggest looking at the menu in advance if you can. Reason being- the waitresses are very attentive to the point that ours came back three times within an eight minute time span to try and take our order. Other than that, no complaints !!
We arrived here at approximately 230pm on a Thursday afternoon. It was not too busy and we were seated right away. We were able to make their happy hour and enjoyed reduced pricing on a generous happy hour menu. Or meal started with their seasoned edamame. It was DELICIOUS! I've had other seasoned edamame that I thought was good, but this one was even better and with a nice kick. Yum! We enjoyed it with sake and a beer. We tried different sushi rolls. All delicious and fairly priced. I would have liked a little more attentiveness. It took a bit of time to get the ginger and wasabi for our meal. They didn't bring it at the beginning as normal. And it also took us a bit to get our check. However since it was my first time, for all I know it could have just been an off day for them. Even with that, when they were serving us, they were nice and not rude so, I still give them high stars. Oh!! And if you're celebrating a birthday, they turn on the disco lights and sing happy birthday. It wasn't ours, but you can bet we sang along!! How fun!!! Honestly, the service wasn't a deal breaker. I'd still go back again for the food and the happy hour pricing. I trust the service will be great the next time.
First time here, the mural and the atmosphere is welcoming. The quality of fish is fresh and great. We ordered the sashimi 15 pc Chefs choice and 12 pc sashimi dinner that includes a bowl of rice and miso soup. I wanted more variety but it was 5 types of fish, 3 slices each. So the 15pc and 12pc are practically the same except I got 3 more slices of halibut. We also ordered the mixed tempura. It was okay. With yelp check in, we got the sweet shishito peppers. A nice delicious bonus. I wish the sashimi had more variety. Staff were nice and friendly. Will likely return for another visit.
If I could give .5, I would give 4.5. We stopped by coz of our sushi cravings. The fish was super fresh. Tommy the chef recommended us to order form the board, the fresh fish of the day. And he didn’t disappoint us. I was so into the nigiri and so I forgot to take some pictures. My personal favourite was hamachi, it melt in my mouth. My hubby’s favourite was aji, because it’s really fresh. So good that my hubby got the 2nd order. We both liked the black snapper. Very fresh. The blue fin had very nice colour and texture too. It’s definitely a place for you to visit. Just be aware the prices for the fresh Japanese fish are slightly higher. Personally we think it’s worth it. Of course only if you always look for good quality of sushi. We will come back some time later to visit the friendly chef Tommy.
