Subway Van Horn Reviews
Excellent service from Teresa and Amanda were very attentive.
Teresa was amazing! I made it in before 8 AM and had the place to myself. Teresa was very friendly and went above and beyond to make sure my sandwiches were crafted nicely. She even cut and extra wrapped my footlong separately since I’d mentioned to her that I would be eating it a few hours later on a long hike. It was a small gesture but very thoughtful. Subway (at least this location) has gotten rid of several staples that I enjoy like the Cesar sauce and oil with seasoning but my sandwich still looks great and I’ll be sure to enjoy it after my 7 mile hike! This location does not accept subway app.
Long line went by fast, busy place but still looks pretty clean. Staff was polite and friendly. First time I've seen 2 people make that many sandwiches that quickly and still accurately. And the food looked and tasted as fresh as ever.
In the sun-scorched high desert along Interstate 10 in Texas, where the horizon seems to stretch into infinity, lies a sandwich shop that's more than just a pit stop. It's an oasis of gastronomic delight, but today, it became the backdrop for an event as rare as rain in these parts - a NASA lander being transported on a big rig pulled in, turning the mundane into the extraordinary. At the heart of this unexpected cosmic encounter was the shop's counter, manned by a young, sharp-witted local. His banter was as precise as a surgeon's scalpel, slicing through the day's monotony with quips sharp enough to cut through the thickest of sandwich bread. "What's the special for an astronaut?" he jested to the truck driver, "A sandwich with a side of stars?" His sandwiches, much like his humor, were crafted with an artisan's touch. Each bite was a revelation; the bread, toasted to a golden crisp, cradled fillings that danced the line between innovation and tradition. From the 'Galactic Gobble', a turkey and cranberry fusion that was out of this world, to the 'Martian Melt', a grilled cheese that could warm the coldest Martian night, his creations were nothing short of stellar. In this place, where the road meets the sky, you could feel the potential in the air - not just from the lander headed to the stars but from the young man behind the counter. Here's to hoping that his wit and sandwiches propel him to a future as bright and boundless as the desert sky he serves under. For travelers, this stop is more than refueling; it's a reminder of human potential, served with a side of wit and wonder.
Subway has always been my favorite choice for healthy food, and the service is always prompt and courteous.

Myself and my family were traveling across the US and stopped for Subway and this had to be the best experience I’ve ever had at a Subway to the point I asked for the names of the employees who served us. I believe Ocean, Tori and Alec deserved some recognition for fast, skillful and friendly service.
Food was fresh & delicious. Lines may get long, but 100% worth the wait. Patience is a virtue. Best cookies ever!! So be sure to grab a dozen! Impressed by the GM. Makin' hard work look flawless, so great job!!
I came through van horn around 3 am the other day and stopped by subway. I have to I was pleasantly surprised by both the food and the service. Usually at that time, if you can find someplace open, they're rude, practically throw your food at you. But the lady behind the counter was very friendly, and made probably one of the best sandwiches I've ever had from any subway. Just goes to show, even in the last place you'd expect, good service can be found.

Don’t normally rate A franchise, but these staff members were doing a great job. Connor was ding a great job handling the people in line. His help had stepped out, but he did great keeping the line moving. Even though one customer was on his phone while ordering his sandwich. Connor was great in holding his words, but some of us finally told the guy to order or get the hell out of line. Brought a smile from staff, but they maintained their customer service skills. Place was clean, products fresh, bread tasted great.
Desiree was great!! She was pleasant and helpful with our order. A much appreciated change from other subways on the road!
Good sandwiches, we stop late at night so they were out of some stuff, customer service was ok. Bread was a tad undercooked. It was only 2 ppl working so the cleanliness of the place wasn't the best. At some point one of the 2 left and left the poor girl alone with a line of customers. Overall we had a good meal.
We were the first people there ordering food, so service was good. We didn’t have any issues. When I tasted my sandwich, I noticed the bread tasted a bit old. My husband’s sandwich was fine $30 for 2 foot longs

The young man working alone did such a great job and was very polite on 6/22. Not sure why other staff were in back not helping him out, but he was awesome.

Ordered a sandwich around 6am this morning & now Iam sick from the food. I ask the employee if the cookie’s was fresh and she said it’s 1 day old. Makes me think if the other food is fresh or not.
Liam gave us great customer service!! But the only down side was that they were out of cilantro, avocado, feta cheese, meat balls, and one type of bread was left, it’s only 9:00pm. Mind you, it’s a 24 hr subway and they were half empty. Everything I asked for they didn’t have.
Good food not much variety in option. The place is small and little crowded.
The food was delicious but the workers were really rude. I get it- they're miserable workers working in Van Horn out of all places. Nevertheless, if you're just passing by for a sandwich, definitely go!!

Would be 1 star if previous experiences hadn't been better. The ladies working the counters went directly from handling raw bread to making the sandwiches and ignored the timer on the toaster leaving the sandwiches overcooked. If I hadn't been in a rush, I would have walked out and ate elsewhere.
They used to cover the meat selection with glass, now it's covered with stainless steel so we can see the quality of the meat and chicken. The tune is not real tuna and the cheese is fake. Disgusting 🤮 Cook at home it's healthier and cheaper.
If you prefer a very slow service with zero customer service, this is the place to go after a long drive.

Slow service and attitudes weren't the best. I had to tell the cashier 4 times that I gave him a 20 not a 10 and I had to do the math for him to get my change. All of the meats, cheeses, and veggies are mixed together and the veggies look like they were turning brown. Too bad I'm starving with a headache or else I would have chosen something else.
Ordered the Philly steak, girl didn't ask if I wanted it toasted, she just did it, now she gets to eat it, I walked out
Slow and they don't use the subway app in any way. Employees are nice but that's the only plus they get. I'd never have dropped if I had known I couldn't use the app to pay.
Nasty dirty table display bad customer service really They try to give me Old bread. I tell her this is really old and it’s broking in your hand so i asking her to change it . After that start make my sandwich with nervous unhappy mad face .. This is my Second times in my life I see store of subway like this ... she’s name Domanica Ziro Recommend it this store time is 05:31 pm 02/07/21
Traveling through Van Horn and we were wanting something quick and to go. This place had a line with only two workers and the fly zapper broken.Flys all around the sandwiches being made. Workers appeared overwhelmed and couldn't keep flys away from the food. Left without making a purchase.
Overcharged the sandwich the sandwich was clearly Marked for less on the advertising board. Then argued the price was due to the tax which they don't know how to add simple math, when show them the math then they said oh the price must have change in the computer. This is either false advertisement or they're filling their pockets with the overcharges of their customers. Will not be back here and I would not recommend eating here.
Waited in line for 10 minutes while customers were getting subs made. I get to the counter and I'm told it'll be another 5 minutes while a bowl is cleaned out to make my sub. The whole time I'm there a male employee is just standing around doing nothing while a female is making subs, cleaning utensils and running the register. Pathetic of the male employee to not do a damn thing besides stand around.
Does Maria like her job? Yes the old rude lady. Didn't put the vegetables I wanted on my sandwich, just bad service in general. With all due respect that subway location is pretty bad.
After waiting for 15 minutes and only one person in front of me ordering one sandwich, I just left; slowest Subway service in the country.
Extremely slow service. We've been in line for at least 10 minutes, and only 2 people have gotten their order. When we arrived, there were 2 employees: one of them pretending to sweep, to leave after 2 minutes; the other one is slow and has barely made any progress in the line. Avoid stopping here if you can
I stopped at Loves for a snack at Subway, having electronic cards for payment, but the employee was not competent, she didn’t know how to scan them and simply said that these cards don’t work, okay, I paid, then I decided to check if the card really didn’t work and entered the card number in Subway app and map added. Conclusion: This place employs inexperienced people who do not know how to scan an electronic gift card for payment.
If I could give this place zero stars I would. It took us 30min to get our subways, when there were only two or three people in front because of how slow and incompetent the staff was. There were three employees, but only one was really working. One of the employees would linger by the cashier, even when there was no one at the cashier instead of putting on gloves and helping out with the orders. I honestly think she was high because her eyes were red and she wasn’t paying attention and would mess up people’s orders. Once my sandwich was done, they gave it to the people in front of us and my husband had to chase after them to let them know they had ours. When I commented how the customer experience needed to improve, one of the employees told me to put on gloves and help in the kitchen, the exact opposite of my point. The people here are rude and clearly don’t know how to operate a fast food place.
I was one of two people in the restaurant and I walked in and was looking at the menu before I walked to the other end to look there as well and place my order, when I was rudely interrupted by the employee behind the counter telling me the line started “on the other end and that’s where i needed to be”…. In which I replied that I was looking at the menu and since there was an obvious problem with that, I would remove myself all together. I had several people to feed and didn’t know what I wanted for myself. I wasn’t in anyones way, no where near the counter and standing behind the one and only other customer in the store. The only thing I have found driving from Memphis to Laredo and from Laredo to Van Horn so far that is bigger in Texas is the bad attitudes of people obviously because they have to work. It obviously didn’t hurt her feelings that she didn’t have to make my 6 foot long subs but it should hurt subways cause that’s $70+ they didn’t make. Get workers who enjoy their jobs and don’t take it out on the rest of us !
I asked to get bread toasted first and she just warmed it up. Asked for a churro and she barely got it warm. That means the dough was raw.🤮 I don't recommend the churro here, I just threw ours away. $2 dollar in the trash.
Asked for Italian herbs and cheese bread she gave me artisan bread and said I asked for Italian. Still not Italian I didn’t want to argue with stupidity and not knowing your own menu so thanks for the gross sandwhich
Ate here and got sick maybe the food was expired!
The ladies in there don't understand the concept of a breakfast combo that is CLEARLY on the menu board above their head. It was 3 ladies that argued with me. Because on the board it didn't finished the sentence. Because it was written in English and Spanish, and it called a breakfast COMBO. " 6 inch breakfast sandwich with a" $6,75 the breakfast sandwich alone was $4,59 The lady was charging me $8,05 I said no I have the breakfast combo. She said because the sentence wasn't finished their couldn't give me the combo and had to charge me the drink and chips separately. They're not the sharpest tool in the box. CLEARLY.
“yall rationin around here, give me the god damn string beans” simple subway recipe portions need to be followed.
I came in at 6 pm and there was 1 person working and another on break despite the line of 5-6 people and dirty tables throughout the restaurant. The employee on break came in and slowly cleaned tables before coming to the food prep area. I realized there were flies buzzing all around the food when I made it to the counter. While ordering, I clearly asked for light mayo and the employee began to put regular mayo on. I told her to stop and scrape off the bit of mayo and use the light mayo instead. She then put on probably a double serving of light mayo and did not give me napkins. As I was eating, the first employee left, leaving one behind the counter with a line that had only grown.
This is aimed at Subway in general. Not this particular location. I will not spend another dollar at your franchise since customer service seems to be lacking at every site. Your employees are overworked and almost all locations are understaffed which leads to bad attitudes from tired and stressed employees. Also, it wouldn't hurt to allow a customer to view the menu on the app or website without having to stand in line to decide. Most Subway's that are located in a truck stop will not allow you to order via the app and so, the menu can't be viewed. Subway is too worried about the bottom line and have seem to forgotten a basic principle of business...serve a good product for a reasonable price and have enough employees to handle the business and treat them well and the bottom line will take care of itself. Subway fails on all accounts.
I stopped into this Subway on September 2nd at 9:30 pm and had one of the worst experiences I’ve had at a sandwich shop. The staff looked irritated the moment I walked in, didn’t greet me, and acted like every request was an inconvenience. Ingredients were running low and what was left didn’t look fresh. If this is how the store operates at 9:30 pm it needs a serious reset, basic curtesy, fresh ingredients, clean work space is not optional.
Woman taking my order was very rude and had an attitude. Ordered soup and gave me a half full cup saying “that’s all we got left” with a sharp tone and seemed annoyed whenever I wanted to add any extra veggies to my sandwich. Once it was time to pay she smacked the cup on the table and had her coworker check me out. The guy charging me was much nicer/kind.
by far the worst subway i’ve ever order from. first i waited over half an hour in line with only 4 people ahead of me, then when it was finally my turn the guy who was nice helped me but had to go into the back then this old lady worker came out and saw me in line then skipped me and helped the person behind me, then she tried to do it a second time and i called her out. she proceeded to argue with me and and swear at me before storming off. the service was so bad the male employee gave me the sandwich completely free. subway needs to evaluate the employees they have working at their stores. this lady was rude and unqualified to work in customer service and should be fired. she could at least apologize for skipping me twice but instead insults me and swears at me. please terminate this lady’s position and hire someone who knows what they’re doing. the male worker did a good courteous thing by giving it to me for free. but that old lady needs to be fired ASAP, will not be returning here ever again if that old lady is still here, and caution all others to do the same
It was just an over all bad experience. All three of the employees seemed completely absent minded. Even after repeating myself 4 times they still got my order wrong and mixed up with an other order. One of the employees proceeded to take the spinach off the already toasted sandwich and threw it back in the container for spinach which is a HUGE health food safety violation, I have a food handlers card and worked in a similar environment so I know. Then had a bad attitude as if it was my mistake even tho I HAD ALREADY REPEATED MYSELF WHEN PLACING MY ORDER, the employee looked like a deer in headlights. They were going back and forth with my order and two other orders at the same time, just all over the place. Then they sloppy & incorrectly folded our sandwiches in the wrapping. I’m not trying to be a Karen but it was just such a poor experience for me and my partner who love and get subway regularly, we have been on the road for 7 hours and this was our meal for the day. Just SUCKED!
I just wanted to buy bread, but for some reason they said they couldn't sell it to me, even though I was all over America, when I asked them to sell me bread, no one objected
This was likely our last stop at this subway/gas station. Later in the morning, we decided to eat at Subway. As soon as we arrived, the employee rudely asked if we were ready to order, despite having less than 30 seconds to review the menu. We tried to overlook her passive-aggressive behavior for the sake of our children, but when we were about to leave, my aunt told her she was rude. This led to an argument, and we left after paying. It was one of the worst customer service experiences we've had in a long time. If you don’t enjoy working with people, this isn’t the right job for you.
Well first of all the older lady working on 11/4/2025 around noon , started off rude to me , like what do you want kinda attitude... im pretty good at ordering and saying thiings ahead of being asked, I asked for pepper jack cheese, amd toasted...got regular white cheese, asked for mayo and very light mustard. She squeezed more mustard than a little and more than mayo, told her vinegar and oil and she forgot that as I was moving down the line... however was really nice to the group of construction workers behind me, calling them Hon and nicely asking questions. Guess shes looking for a man ... trust me they weren't interested lol she apparently doesn't like helping women ... smh sad little person.
Around Sept 20, 2025, my husband & I stopped at Loves for gas. He stopped into Subway to get us lunch. He was ignored except for the racial slurs directed towards his whiteness. The staff was Hispanic. So, he left. Don't bother patronize if your Caucasian unless you like racism.
I wish i can give them rating less than 0, If uh guys are open 24hrs than uh need to serve customer for 24hour... i have worked in subway... customer was always first preferance. My boyfriend went their last night, the guy working night shift said- come after 30 minutes, bcz he is on his break. He respected that and came back, after some time my bf went back... thay said still more time... thats kind a very bad customer service, uh are there to feed people for 24hour... we are not getting anything for free... Owner of the restaurant must take some steps to take care of this.... Very poor service guys....
