Claim Jumper San Diego Reviews
My husband and I arrived in San Diego 2 days before getting on a cruise to the Mexican Riviera to celebrate our wedding anniversary. After exploring the city … we decided to dine at Claim Jumper which was adjacent to our hotel. We thoroughly enjoyed and had a fantastic experience from start to finish at this venue. We were seated quickly by a friendly host, and our server Edna greeted us with a warm smile and provided outstanding service throughout the evening. The medium-rare prime center-cut filet was perfectly cooked—tender, flavourful, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. We also enjoyed the calamari and buffalo wings, both prepared perfectly. Warm bread and attentive drink refills arrived without even having to ask. Although the restaurant was busy, Edna was always attentive and gracious. When I mentioned looking forward to dessert for our anniversary but decided on coffee instead, she surprised us with a complimentary slice of their decadent three-layer chocolate cake. Such a thoughtful gesture that truly made our dining experience unforgettable. Excellent food, beautiful water views, and exceptional service. Thank you, Edna, for making our anniversary so special—we will definitely be back!
Oh man.. where to start... I did a Princess cruise from Vancouver down the California coast in October and on our stop in San Diego a good friend told our group we had to try Claim Jumper. So we started with drinks and the glasses were massive. I had to try the fish n chips and the plate was loaded with massive pieces of fish and a lot of fries too....... It was a struggle to finish all the meal by I never leave food on my plate..... and the carrot cake for dessert was Brutally huge and soo delish. I just know that was the hi lite of my trip. I will always make a stop to this place every time I travel to San Diego. Out of 10 I give them 12 the food was soo good and $oo worth it. Thanks to the gang at Claim Jumper for a grreat meal!!! If you're ever in the area You MUST go there!
So, this was our first time visiting Claim Jumper. We decided since we were in the area watching the Veterans Day parade that we would stop in and try it for lunch. They were offering a free lunch off of a limited menu for veterans on Veterans Day. So my date had the shrimp pasta with Alfredo sauce and I chose the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and vegetables. Excellent choice! The meal was at the table within ten minutes or so. Very polite and accommodating crew. We must return and try more items!
I am a flight attendant who had an opportunity to eat dinner at the restaurant and everything was fantastic! My favorite definitely was the southwestern egg rolls. So delicious! I also want to say that Shawn who was the waiter was amazing! Such an amazing person and human being, he made my experience that much greater. Thank you Shawn for being so wonderful!
I was in San Diego and looking for a place near the maritime museum. I stumbled upon the Claim Jumper, and it was a great find! We ordered the lobster BLT and the farmer’s hamburger, and both were absolutely delicious. The service was fantastic - the staff was super friendly and helpful. I highly recommend checking it out if you’re ever in the area!
First time at this restaurant and it is wonderful! The customer service is excellent. The food is delicious and the portions are big. Ordered the calamari, Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich, and chocolate cake (not pictured). My husband ordered the chicken tenders, which were the size of two chicken breast fillets sliced in half. I highly recommend this location. Update - This is the best restaurant on the harbor! We came back to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday and it was spectacular. This time we ordered the salmon. New picture and video attached. You must eat at this restaurant at this location.
So I really enjoyed the food, the atmosphere and the service! Everything came quickly and the waitress was very pleasant. The food came in big portions to match the prices and it was delicious. I tried a few things around the table. Desert Carmel Butter Cake🤤, spinach dip with chips, 6 ct. large mozzarella sticks and the huge pot pie. We literally was able to split the food between four people. However, I rate the atmosphere as a 4 star (ONLY) because four of us sat at a table designed for four people but it was uncomfortable once food and drinks arrived the space became very small. The table is better placed for a party of 2-3 and three is pushing it in my honest opinion unless it's a small kid. Don't expect close parking as this restaurant is attracted to a hotel in down town San Diego. However, you may park at a fee across the street which wasn't a problem because after a large meal you can take a relaxing walk down the harbor which has beautiful views. If you decide to go after 8pm parking is free and it's less crowded making it easier to find parking.
Note: we ordered water with lemon because the average cost per dish is around $23. potatoskins: The were delicious with the sour cream. The potatoskins wasn't overwhelmed with toppings. Somehow the cheif made them crispy(first time I had them crispy and now I want all of my potatoskins crispy). They were not greasy eventho there was bacon and cheese. Lobster BLT: It was lobster(cooked very well) and a BLT. The bacon was semi crispy, the lettuce was crispy, and the toast was crispy but not cut you mouth crispy.
We are visiting from Arizona and staying at the hotel. We wanted something good and convenient after a long day at the beach. The food was delicious!! We had the calamari and pretzel bites appetizer, the lobster mac&cheese, the fish and chips, fish tacos and the potato pancakes. Everything was tasty, our server was pleasant and quick. It wasn’t super busy and was a relaxing atmosphere.
We dropped off our car at a long term parking lot and took their free shuttle to our hotel. The driver, Jeff, suggested we stop by the Claim Jumper for dinner exclaiming that they have large portions and are family friendly - which they have and they are! Our waitress was friendly and attentive and led us right to a table without any wait. Food was served quickly and it was tasty. Large drinks! Lots of families with children enjoying their meals. Accessible. Self parking seems difficult, as the area is popular. The hotel has valet parking, but it’s expensive.
This restaurant is in the lobby of the hotel I was staying at. I ordered an entrée and a glass of wine. The server (Edna)didn’t offer me a wine list, so I asked for a glass of the house Cabernet. Imagine my surprise when I was charged $21! I asked Edna about it, and all she said was,”oh that maybe wasn’t the house wine”. She should have should’ve changed it, or I should’ve insisted that she do. But I was so angry I just wanted to leave. They should be ashamed of themselves. Also, I still gave her a very nice tip because the rest of her service was fine and I hate not leaving a tip.
This used to be a family favorite for the holidays. I’m sure With wages doubling and food costs Skyrocketing The skimpy portions are understandable. But the quality of food Has diminished notably. On Thanksgiving, 2025 the meat portions were sparse and dry. Shockingly there was no bread. When we asked The waitress for bread, she said that they were out, but She would provide some if She saw any. Obviously, they were on a budget. Also, the service was rush you in and rush you out. She’ served us dessert without taking the dirty dinner plates. I would not recommend this for a holiday.
My experience at Claim Jumper was extremely disappointing, especially for a restaurant in a hotel. I know it was close to 9:30 p.m., but the quality of the food and overall atmosphere just wasn’t acceptable. The Southwest Egg Rolls tasted old, were dry yet greasy, and had almost no flavor. The chicken tortilla soup fell completely flat and was barely recognizable. Even the strawberry lemonade tasted more like a generic punch than anything fresh. I left hungry and disappointed. I won’t give the restaurant a second try. On top of the food issues, the atmosphere made the experience even worse. The host was speaking loudly in the kitchen—lots of laughing and excessive noise. I’m all for enjoying your job, but it was distracting. The music coming from the kitchen was also explicit, which shocked me. At the very least, it should be turned down; customers shouldn’t have to hear that.
Sat down at 7:30. First drink order / app order wasn’t taken until 7:45. Didn’t receive water until 8:00 PM. 8:30 no dinner order nor refills ! Bloody Mary shrimp was ok. Couldn’t tell you about the other food because the service was so poor.
Arrived around 6:20ish. Waited awhile to be greeted and be sat, but saw no employee, and there was no sign indicating to wait or seat yourselves. It wasn't busy, so we waited a few minutes but still didn't see a single employee other than the bartender on the opposite end of the bar. We finally sat ourselves, and waited another 5 minutes trying to get any server's attention to let them know we were there and needed menus but still no employees. I finally got up and looked for our own menus. I watched as two other tables had to do the same because they were in the same situation as us. It was probably another 10-15 minutes before a server even came over. At that point we put in our food and drinks since we had more than enough time to look at the menu and didn't know when we'd even see our server again. Although she was extremely friendly, there was never an apology for the wait and we were never checked on during our meal. The bread was delicious, but the food was eh. My Caesar salad was drenched in dressing so it was pretty much lettuce soup, and the chicken tasted like it came prepared from a package. Considering how much my food was and the upcharge for chicken, the bare minimum I would've expected was fresh grilled chicken. If I wasn't having dinner with a friend who was about to catch a flight, we absolutely would not have stayed to eat here to eat dinner. Awful experience.
This is legitimately a 0 star review. I have the whole experience time stamped. My girlfriend and I arrived at 735 on 11/7. There are maybe 30 people in the restaurant but it had a good atmosphere with all the TVs. One of the bartenders asks if we want menus as soon as we sat down, great start, unfortunately that was literally it. This same bartender handed us menus and didn’t even ask us if we wanted any drinks/water to start with. 10 minutes later a different bartender comes over and takes our drinks and appetizer order. The drinks came out about 5 minutes later and were mixed. My girlfriend enjoyed her margarita but mine was the most watered down martini I’ve ever had in my life. The worst part about it is that the bartender tried to charge me for a double when I have never in my life ordered a double martini. I legitimately do not even believe that it’s a real thing because it would overflow a martini glass. Tangent aside, we ordered the blackened Bloody Mary shrimp as an appetizer when we ordered our drinks. The picture doesn’t even do justice for how awful this was. Even after all of this, my girlfriend and I were still going to order more drinks and dinner. Neither of the two bartenders ever came to check on us to see if we wanted more drinks or to order actual entrees. 40 minutes after our drinks and app order I finally stood up to get some attention. We got zero attention until I instructed a couple who had been waiting about 10 minutes for any service to just leave because this place is a joke. Lucky for that couple they left, and unfortunately for me I’m too stupid to ask to speak to a manager, because tonight was the worst service I’ve seen at a mostly empty restaurant at 730 on Friday night. I don’t know how they stay in business, they could offer me a 500 dollar gift card and I wouldn’t return to this joke of an establishment.
This place is not what it usto be. It was absolutely awful. Pasta, steak, Mac and cheese, and backed potato were all microwave frozen meals. No flavor just awful. And to top it off the bartender was so rude. She never came back after taking my order till it was time for the check. Don't wast you time and money here.
