Deckhand Austin Reviews
Excellent service and food! Very busy during lunch, but that did not affect service. Ava (not sure of sp) was an efficient and sweet server. Nice selection of lunch specials. Had shrimp poboy, crawfish etouffee, and a side of hush puppies. Everything was fresh and flavorful! Iced tea was freshly brewed. We will definitely return.
Tammy was our server and she was amazing! She was so friendly and helped us choose the best food we had our whole trip to Austin!! Not only is this an amazing oyster bar but also has the best Thai food my husband and I have ever had! Shrimp spring rolls, a dozen oysters, salt and pepper calamari, chicken Pad Thai, it all was delish!! Tammy gets a raise, we loved everything! #1 chefs!
First experience having fresh oysters and I was highly satisfied; great customer service from start to finish and fresh flavorful oysters: Deckhand (photo) & La Frontera oysters were both great.
I've been coming here for years it's amazing Lon is a top-notch guy. Always good vibes!
Awesome seafood place. We went here for a birthday celebration and it didn't disappoint. Great taste and awesome selection. Swamp curry was by far best. Don't forget to try their special Deckhand sauce, too flavorful!
The food here is really good and their house sauce is amazing. But the real gem here is the bartender, Jordan. He was on point and his attention to detail was superb. there was a mistake with my meal and he was genuinely concerned about my experience. Even though I told him to not worry about the mix up he still brought me a couple of boiled shrimp for the inconvience. I will absolutely be back to this restaurant due solely on the service I received!!
Great spot if you are a fan of oysters, sports, and affordable beer! Frist time i went drop by Deckhand was on new year's eve. I was seated in front a gaint tv which was playing the UT game. Even as a non sports watch the ambiance was great. I ordered a half dozen oysters, a jumbo blue moon, and sate shrimp. The oyster were good. They came with horseradish, cocktail sauce, lemon, and this amazing house oysters sauce that goes on raw oysters. The shrimp sate was also really good. I came out a bit later and i forgot to take a picture. I really enjoy this place. I love oysters but am sometimes wary of eating them in Texas, but I 100% trust this place.
Food is great! Interesting melding of Cajun and Vietnamese?(Maybe?) Thailand?. The soups are killer (Tom Yum is amaztastic), fried catfish or oyster po' boy are great. The lunch specials are a really good deal. Service is fast and friendly. Beer's pretty cheap. I can't say enough about this place (try the homemade hot sauce!! I could eat that over white rice and be a happy man)
The best oyster bar I've even been to in Texas! Oysters were great and they gave me a house sauce to put on them was of this world. I would drink it on its own. The Crying Boar (Thai Styke Sliced Pork Lettuce Wraps) were amazing. Several Thai and Vietnamese items on the menu and I will be back to try those as well.
We tried this place for the first time and were impressed. It has an extensive menu that has a lot of Thai food as well as some traditional American plates. Our waitress was very helpful and allowed us to sample two dishes one of which had a fermented crab because she said it was an acquired taste. She was right and we adjusted our selections. We also enjoyed raw oysters along with splitting two other dishes. The place was busy on a Friday night but not too loud and we were seated right away.
If you've never had Deckhands you in for a true treat. Food portions are large which is a win in my book. But the flavors of literally EVERYTHING on the menu are Freaking FANTASTIC! The fried platters are always cooked perfectly and have a true unique flavor. Their Asian infusion throughout the options standout in the best of ways! Ive tried multiple plates and have yet to have a single bad bite across the options. I could eat here once a week and never get burned out! *I've been to both locations but the one on South Lamar has changed owners and the name is now Ocean Blue. So you're best bet is the Deckhands up north off Louis Henna.
Love coming to new places that are great in every way. My wife and I were encouraged by friends to come here, and from the first bite of the shrimp satay, we knew this was a winner. As soon as we took that bite, we knew this was going to be a great meal. We couldn't have asked for a better experience. HIGHLY recommend the shrimp satay as a starter.
Great casual place for fresh seafood and food in general. They also have Thai influenced dishes that are really good. The oysters were fresh and nicely cleaned out. The wings were nice awesome, crispy and delicious! I was a big fan of the previous ownership so I'm sad items like calamari fried rice is no longer on the menu but the food is just as good. I highly recommend coming here to enjoy food and hang out with friend.
Very different than I expected, it’s NOT just an oyster bar with some fried seafood baskets on the side. It’s good raw oysters, weak cocktail sauce, but strong horseradish, yum. Instead of just fried seafood baskets, there are all kinds of Thai and Asian food options. Hubby had shrimp pad Thai, and I had the crawfish etoufe. I liked his better than mine, BUT I have my own crawfish etoufe recipe that I love. Hubby thought theirs was good, but it wasn’t to my liking. His pad Thai was excellent.
This is the kind of place that instantly rewards you for showing up hungry because the menu has zero interest in subtlety. The crawfish étouffée comes out rich, saucy, and packed with bold Cajun flavor, the kind of comfort food that makes you slow down and fully commit to each bite with a scoop of rice. The wings are crispy, juicy, and coated in a sauce that hits all the right notes, messy in the best way and absolutely worth sacrificing a few napkins. Then there’s the fried catfish, perfectly golden on the outside, flaky and tender on the inside, and so satisfying it makes you question why you ever order anything else when catfish is an option. The whole vibe is laid back, fun, and unapologetically indulgent, where laughter is loud, plates are shared, and nobody is pretending this is a light meal. You leave full, happy, and already thinking about how soon you can justify coming back.
Deckhand Oyster Bar is a must-visit for fresh, flavorful seafood in Austin! The service is super friendly and welcoming, which made our experience even better. We ordered the huge raw oysters plate—fresh and perfectly chilled—along with a rich cup of seafood gumbo, steamed shrimp, crispy calamari, and golden hush puppies. Everything was delicious! Surprisingly, the buffalo bone-in wings were a standout too—packed with flavor and just the right amount of heat. Great food, great vibe—we’ll definitely be back!
Good food. Oysters were pretty good and loved that they had fried clam strips!!! Haven’t had those in a long time and they didn’t disappoint!! We did the broiled sampler oysters. For the most part, they were pretty good. Only downside is that this place didn’t have a liquor license. We shoooo coulda enjoyed a nice vodka sprite!
1st of all, Full bar and the bartender/s were gone from behind the bar a bunch, took over 20 minutes for them just to take my drink order & then another 20 minutes for my food order. The salmon portion as small as it gets and not very good. Absolutely garbage service and food in my opinion. Extremely sad when the owner is here every day on site and everyone around me at the bar is complaining about service
First time visiting and service was cool the environment was nice, happy people enjoying food. In my opinion the food was a NO GO! Everything I ordered was unseasoned, no touch of soul was added at any point. Oyster’s was decent I give it a 5 . My waitress was kind and helpful. Don’t recommend if you like, love seasoned food
