Frequently asked questions about Donovan's Pub
Donovan's Pub Woodside Reviews
Love the atmosphere, especially in the back room. People have called their burgers the best in Queens for decades now and I would probably agree. At the very least, they deserve to be a top contender. I want to love the hand cut fries, but sometimes they are a little too big and almost don't cook through. But the rest of the pub food is excellent. The wings are great! Prices are fair, you might think they are high, but I think they match the excellent quality of the food. Sometimes service is a little slow, but always friendly.
The best burger i ever ate, and it was 20 years ago still remember the taste
Had a delicious lunch here yesterday with friends. We were in a back room, so not in the lively-looking sports bar area. Wide variety of food, including about 20 different hamburgers, readily customizable. The sweet potato fries were really good. Excellent service. Will return!
We celebrated my son’s 5th grade graduation this past weekend and I’m here to tell you about our amazing experience! Our party was a large group of about 25 people and we had a prefixed menu. Colleen, the party planner was very thorough and she really helped navigate through all the questions that I needed answered. Our server, Kristy was so friendly and accommodating. The bus boys were very attentive! Our guests enjoyed the food, space and atmosphere! They liked how the restaurant was very family oriented! We will not think twice about booking again for our next event!
The absolute best place for brunch on Sundays. I think they're the only ones who offer your standard American breakfast buffet and its price gives you best value for your money. They have unlimited French toast, hash browns, home fries, sausage, bacon, eggs (however you want it cooked) and more for only 15 bucks (as of May 2019). Not only that, their service is great, and they're all friendly. The ambiance is just like every other pub, dark and very homey. A recommend visit for those who like doing brunch!
A great, welcoming pub. They make the best bailey's coffee and chicken fingers. Families come here for a nice feast on saint patrick's day. I like coming here for the live music ( I think usually on Fridays.) the band played Tracy Chapman and Rolling Stones last time and really blew my mind.
Can't go wrong with anything on the menu!!! Burgers are PHENOMENAL!!! staff is friendly and welcoming
Fantastic Guinness on tap and some great pub food too. I loved the shepherds pie.
My new obsession! The chicken wings, burger, and chicken pot pie are the perfect order to share.
The burgers here are beyond words, they're incredible!
Great Mets bar with comforting food. Cozy up to the bar and have Guinness
It's been 20 years since I've been here...very happy that Dnovan's is still here....my parents would come here way back when. The food is still on point and the drinks are great. Service is prompt and attentive...love that it has not changed and still has it's original ambiance... A Queens Staple and still got the best burgers of all five boroughs.
Phenomenal burger and wings! And excellent bartender behind the bar. Loved everything about this trip to Queens.
Nostalgia. My dad and his dad have been coming here since way back. Highly recommended. The Woodside with a fried egg and a 💣Black&tan💣Breakfast of champions.
Love this neighborhood pub. Donovan's is so much a part of the neighborhood, that when it was in danger of closing, two local guys saved it. The food is good and so are the drinks. The vibe is friendly and laid back. Fridays and Saturdays they have life music. The prices are reasonable. The space is big and the back includes a fireplace. The windows are stained glass. It is truly a beautiful pub. The service is fast and good and the bartenders are friendly. It is also a place where you can hang with friends, alone and/or with family and feel equally comfortable in each situation. This is sure to be a neighborhood staple for years to come.
Best burger I have had in NYC. Super juicy! They also have a great selection of beers on tap. The bartender, Herb, was great!
Couldn’t ask for a better burger in town! A fantastic atmosphere with a great selection of beers. The sunnyside burger with steak fries is the go to and what I recommend to anyone!
I had a great time at Donovan's Pub, a cozy and authentic Irish pub in Queens. The chicken pot pie was delicious, with a flaky crust and a creamy filling. The portion was generous and satisfying. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. The staff was attentive and courteous, and they made me feel welcome. I highly recommend Donovan's Pub for anyone who appreciates a traditional Irish pub with great food and service.
Nice food. Large portions. Bar area was noisy and crowded but we ate at tables deep inside.
Just WOW. I have been coming here for years, it never disappoints AND they are constantly raising the bar for themselves. Ownership that cares & puts in the time & effort makes a big difference. Pork shank special was a 10+.
I discovered this place through someone giving a list of recommendations on TikTok, and I was craving burgers that day so I went to check it out. It’s very close to the 7-train station. The place wasn’t packed when I got there so I had a table immediately. They had many options but this I went with a medium-well Sebastian burger with wedgie fries. While I was waiting, I had a draft Harp Lager, very refreshing. I felt so full afterwards but I don’t regret it. It was so good. The fries seemed fresh cut and fried. I will definitely go back to try the other burgers. I arrived around 7pm on a Thursday night and it had a good ratio of persons to empty space. What I mean is that it had a lively ambience of a pub but felt cozy at the same time. The TV was playing a NY Rangers game, the tables had candles and the lights were dim. The dinner guests spectrum was very wide. There were families, group of guys, group of girls and even what seemed to be a date. This time I came alone to try it out but would like to watch some sport in this authentic Irish pub in Queens.
My family and I have been going to Donovans for a pretty long time and it never disappoints!
Classic Irish pub, the last of it’s kind in Woodside Great food and great prices for what you get. Warm, courteous staff. The place is doing so well they are expanding.Experience old New York, Irish charm.
Best burgers in Queens. And I will die on this hill. We came on game night so it was packed but I’m pretty sure it gets packed any other day because the food, drink, and staff is a triple threat of awesomeness! I had the steak this particular night and it was enormous and so so good!! I had the steak black and blue, which means extra rare, and even my friend who never eats it’s rare was amazed at how good it was! We had a lovely waitress that was apologizing profusely for the wait time which I thought was very considerate! Loved it, will be back to try the rest of their extensive burger menu!
Very few bars in the city where you step in and they take you back in time and Donovan’s does not miss. Came here for the burger that made best burger a few years back and can still be debated as the best in the city today. Known for their burger, Guinness and French onion soup. Highly recommend to anyone who likes Irish bars, burgers and a good Guinness!
We stopped in for an early lunch on a Saturday. We were sat by the fireplace which was warm and cozy. They have some specials including drink specials and beers on tap. We kept it simple ordered a burger with onion rings and turkey burger with French fries. French fries are fresh and really good! Turkey burger was surprisingly juicy and very delicious! Burger was good and onion rings were yummy for those that eat onions lol I like the homey feel to Donovan’s and have good memories with family there! Definitely recommend
We got a brie/candied bacon burger and a goat cheese/caramelized onion burger and both were awesome (as every burger there is). Haven't had one I didn't like. The onion rings were great, too. We also got a couple pieces of tiramisu for dessert to go, and they were way smaller than expected. Still good, but itty bitty.
When you think of an Irish Pub this is definitely the place you want to go too. The food was very well priced and the portion size was just perfect. Burgers are cooked perfectly and highly recommended the Roosevelt Burger. The service is a little slow when they are busy but the atmosphere is great and so are the people. A place to definitely come back too.
The food at Donovan's is great, the burgers are really good and the giant pretzel with bacon it's really nice to share. I recommend the onion rings with the fries. The place it's really big, don't get fooled by the entrance, walk past the bar and you can get seated.
We have an annual luncheon and Colleen handled our reservation , menu and table setup up, flawlessly. She is always very responsive and pleasant. The service was excellent, led by Ann Marie. We had a party of 25 she ran the show beautifully.
Charming old school Irish pub in Queens with a great overall vibe and live music on the evening I went. They’re also known for their burgers. I had an excellent classic style meaty bacon cheeseburger (they have about 12 topping options!) that was very reasonably priced. I went 50-50 on fries and onion rings and I’m so glad I did! The fries were ok, but the onion rings were amazing, some of the best I’ve had - so light airy and crispy.
Amazing food and gracious service! I’m from the south, but have lived in Queens for 19 years and this is one of the nicest, most welcoming places I’ve ever had the pleasure of enjoying an awesome burger in. Highly recommend!
Always a safe bet. Your typical Irish Pub (happy, noisy, crowded and welcoming), but elevated to the next level, when you equate: excellent menu, and superb service. My favorites (Onion soup and the burgers). Reservations are recommended.
The spot is super cool. They've maintained the vintage charn all these years. A bar and 4 dining rooms. Gotta say the staff were super nice from the minute we walked in. Neighborhood spot with a lot of locals hanging aorund watching the game They have 20 burger options. JUST 20 We had the classic cheese burger and The Jack with sauteed onions, jalapeños, pepper jack cheese and chipotle mayo. It's a 8 oz pattie made with a blend of 3 different cuts and cooked in a salamander The cheese is melted on both sides of the bun and not on the meat It's a solid burger with old school flavors. We had it with potato wedges, onion rings and a side of wings Check out Donovans for a great neighborhood spot with classic old school vibe. Big thank you to our server Sarah . Who absolutely the best
Delicious food. Casual and friendly. It was super busy, so service was a little slow, but it was perfect for us to have conversation without feeling rushed out!! Highly recommend!! Meter parking ends at 7 PM around there, so plan accordingly because parking is tight!!
One of the best pub burgers in the area, we order regularly from here. Definitely worth a try. Steak fries are some of the best I've had.Awesome atmosphere in traditional Tudor style. Friendly staff
Fantastic, old school pub in Woodside Queens, open since 1966, fireplace, top notch food and fair.
Donovan’s has the best burger in new york city. It’s rare to find a restaurant like this, and if you are able to visit, you must.
I have been going to Donovan's Pub since 1985, since I moved to Woodside. Always Donavan's has been the best restaurant in Woodside and very famous in 1985 for the handout of Policemen and Firemen. I meet most of my friends in this Restaurant. I have great memories and very good times in Donavan. I have no been as regular as I used to be, however I stop often with friends for lunch or dinner. This past week I stopped by for lunch, and to my surprise I saw all the excellent new renovations that with the fire place on look delightful. The food was out of this world, and delicious as always, They have an Arugula salad that I recommended very highly, and my filet of sole with mushrooms was great. The staff cannot be nicer and more professional. I have known the bartender Chris for many, many years, and he is the best. My waiter, Coleen, as always, was very nice and efficient. Rosa
So glad that a local family was able to buy and be successful at keeping a true neighborhood go to restaurant alive. There is a lot more to Donovan’s than you see from the first floor! My wedding rehearsal dinner was held in a private snug room back decades ago on Thanksgiving and our European visitors got to experience a traditional meal. They loved it. It’s been out go to place with our kids and a takeout place for ages. The menu is vast now but they seem to be doing great. We love the longer hours! No discernible difference in the food at all - maybe it’s better now! The staff are extremely pleasant.
Absolutely everything about Donovan’s was magical. The interior is lovely, it has a warm atmosphere, the bar is cozy, the bartender, Christine, was so sweet, each room is filled with stories and wonderful paintings and memorabilia, Jimmy and Chris were so kind, and everyone in the bar seemed to know each other, which I thought showed true community. The chicken parmigiana sandwich was delicious. I will absolutely be back!
I had a private party here at Donovan’s and it was better than expected. The private room was beautiful and the drinks/food were top notch. I want to thank Colleen and Melissa for their extraordinary service. I highly recommend this location to everyone living in the area, and to anyone visiting Queens!
A Queens landmark, Donovan’s is a must-visit for New York locals. We are never disappointed with our visits for dinner and entertainment. Donovan’s is a very short walk from the Woodside 7 train/LIRR station complex, and it is well worth the short trip from Manhattan.
Pretty cool Pub, nice atmosphere and service was really nice. Everyone is really friendly. Loved the assortment of imported beer 🍺. 20 different types of hamburgers 🍔 . The ones we ordered were pretty good, nachos 😋 delicious, French fries 🍟 cheese and gravy are really good, stuffed mushrooms 🍄 are super juicy 😋 and delicious. Really enjoyed the place and food. Prices are reasonable, oh and the guy singing was pretty good 👍. Definitely recommend this spot, they even sang happy birthday 🎂 to our friend and sister as it was their birthday. Great overall experience 👌
Go here. Great staff and even better food. The burgers are fantastic and cooked perfectly and the choices alone of toppings and different combinations are great. Unique place that does things the right way. Best burgers in Queens not only for the quality of the food but the choices, competent staff, good vibes and good company.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND, we went on a Monday for Lunch. They had a fireplace going on in the dining area which cozied up the place, it was quiet. Mary Anne is really sweet, the food was fantastic. We ordered the French onion soup, bacon cheese burger and onion rings. The burger was tender and had such a bite. The onion rings were really crunchy and had a sizable onion. And the French onion soup was a staple to warm you right up in the winter. Everything plus two soft drinks cost us $45 not including tip.
Hidden gem within Queens with one of the best burgers I’ve had in the NYC area. The service was okay. The drinks were strong but refreshing. The shepherds pie was savory, rich and full of flavor. The burger by far was one of the top 3 burgers I’ve had to mind. The burger was juicy and perfectly seasoned. Along with egg each bite was so satisfying.
Damn good burger traditional burger. It is quite pricey, but it does come with a hunk of meat that's like an inch thick. It's cooked really well when medium rare--extremely soft and tender with a good beefy taste. The buns are quite standard and it comes with a hunk of lettuce. It only comes with like 4 or 5 onion rings but they are HUGE. Unfortunately, it's a lot more batter than onion, but it's still quite good since it's nice and soft with a good bite. Service is quick and friendly despite being very busy on a lovely weekend evening! The ambience is very lively and cheerful, adding to the entire experience.
This is a perfect pub/restaurant! It was our first time here, and I only heard good things from a close friend. I started with a proper poured Guinness! We both got cheeseburgers, steak fries, and a side of onion rings. The burgers were cooked perfectly, juicy and delicious! The steak fries were also perfect! The onion rings were the best I have ever had! Heavily battered and cooked to perfection, they were a meal on their own! We finished with an ice cream sundae that hit the spot! The server was great. She was very friendly with a lovely Irish brogue. The prices are very reasonable. I highly recommend this place! We can not wait to go back!
It's one of those spots that has been doing it right for many years. A lot of people from queens talk about this being one of the best burgers in queens . I'd have to agree. But not just in queens . It's truly a delicious burger. The fries and onion rings are superior. All of the food here is on point . The drinks are good .the selection even better. The services is direct and to the point . A true neighborhood spot. Put it on your list of places to visit.
Definitely lived up to the social media hype and no doubt best tavern burger in Queens. One can choose any burger on their extensive burger menu with a side of fries or onion rings for less than 20 bucks, it’s a deal I’m willing to sign up for every day. We went on a Thursday late afternoon and place was energetic and lively, just what you expect from a well-known busy tavern. I can only imagine what it’s like on weekends when they have live band. Donovan’s is the real deal.
burgers were 10/10, could've done with more fries but issa okie. Service was great too! Place is low-key intimate

A staple of the neighborhood that has been there forever. It's a no frills pub with a unique layout. It's like they pieced together rooms from different parts of the building over the years. The menu has your typical Irish pub food. The burgers are very popular there. They have a good shepherds pie and chicken pot pie. The bar has a nice beer selection and the prices are reasonable. Pretty easy to find street parking. The place gets busy during the weekend and gets flow over traffic from Mets games.
A nice example of a Irish pub. Good service and excellent atmosphere. Beer and drinks were exactly as you.would expect. My friends raved about their burgers and rated their steak decent but mediocre. I had the seafood platter and can't recommend it. I thought the flavor and texture was fine but the portions made is a poor value. Overall recommended if you are looking for a friendly pub for a drink and small meal. Look elsewhere for dinner.
Went here around 7pm on a Friday night and was easily able to get a table for 2. Started off with a Guinness. No complains there. I got the Cheeseburger. The burger was incredible. The patty itself was juicy, cooked to perfect medium rare. My first bite was just with the bun, cheese, and meat, and honestly I don't think I needed to add the lettuce and tomato. Excellent burger. My girlfriend chose to get the appetizer version of the Shepard's Pie, considering the entree version would have been 2x bigger. The Shepard's Pie was just ok in my opinion. It's a solid hearty meal, especially during the winter. Overall recommend to check this place out for their burgers at least.
At first glance Donovan's pub looks like a regular bar with loud people, tvs and a lot of drinking. However, as you approach the dining area the entire vibe changes. The dining area has a nice Irish style decor with rustic walls and wood. The waiter are very atentive and polite and give you enough time for you to enjoy your dinner. The food overall was good and filling.
Went recently for the first time with a friend and I got a bacon cheeseburger and she got the shepherds pie. The much lauded burger was good—the patty was clearly high quality —but it was overall a little underseasoned for my taste. My friend got the Shepherds pie and it was excellent . The service and space are also fantastic . I will absolutely come back!
Classic pub, family friendly. Great vibe. Awesome burgers. I have to confess that's why we went. Christmastime meal with 2 generations of gents. The dining room was filled with couples, families and a few single dinners. The Guinness was great and the burger was excellent. The fish and chips was perfect. The fish and batter were off the charts. I can't even tell you about the chips the fish was so good. I forgot all about them . We had a table for six. Very comfortable, easy to have great conversation. Happy new year, so glad I took the drive to Woodside.
Ranked best burger in queens so I wanted to see what the hype was about. It was definitely a solid burger but I fear the chatter about them losing the it factor may be true. It wasn't the BEST burger l've had but definitely up there. The mozzarella sticks were yummy. The pretzel was also pretty special (if it were the thing I was eating at a baseball game). Service was friendly and attentive despite it being decently busy. There’s ample seating in both a dining room and bar area. It’s not too noisy on the weekday we went. They do show sports on the TVs if that’s what you’re into!

Nothing to brag about. The service at the bar was excellent. The onion rings also excellent. It was kinda hot and stuffy inside. A patron at the bar suggested AC and the bartender was kind enough to close the door and put on the AC. I ordered a H Factor whatever that means. It was a blue cheese burger. I requested a medium rare, part of my burger was the the other part was medium. Bleu cheese could have been sharper. I ordered 2 Stella pints, they were not cold close to room temperature. I did not complain. I was tired and extremely hungry and thirsty. It’s a dated bar which is nice thst they keep it that wAy . You can eat at the bar or in the back area. Very clean and service was quick. Oops I did it again And Again , NOTHING TO BRAG ABOUT- the next day . Ordered the medium rare H factor - this time I got a medium to Well done and the blue cheese you need something way sharper. This time two Pina Colada they were good. I had the fries not impressed. But the Barmaid was EXCELLENT.
It’s a great bar, but in my opinion I was not impressed with the burger. I asked for medium and I got well done, so it was bland. May give the Shepard’s pie a try next time.
I came for a burger it was amazing, it had chilli on it.I loved the chilli ,so i ordered mac and cheese with chilli to go ,not knowing the price. Turned out to be 26$ for mac and cheese with chilli . I do not recommend ordering anything to go . Everything else was great but this mac and cheese.
Nice atmosphere for the holidays. All good till the waitress unasked bring you the bill even though that wasn't done for everyone else of different complections... We still had drinks not finished and ordered more than one throughout night. Why exactly is the rush when there are other tables empty and nobody waiting for seat. Can't wait to remove the cash from my pocket I guess? What if we were going to order more drinks after we finished the ones we were drinking at the moment? I'd expect better of a pub. It's not a normal restaurant but a bar so obviously you chat n hang out. Burger which was why I came to Donovan was mediocre and very salty and rare when i ordered it medium. Still trying to figure out why that was. My partner ordered a burger well done. It came out not salty and dry like a McDonald's burger. The fries were old tasting and burned. See picture. Chocolate mousse was the savior of the day. But it isn't enough to make me come back and the rushing to make us pay the bill before we finished drinks without valid explanation of why the rush.
This place really did not meet my expectations. During the beginning of the meal it was perfect, I got my mozzarella sticks with no problem. But after that it went downhill. First of all, the waitress was very slow, took really long to get my entree and the check. Secondly, the burger I ordered which was the Wisconsin burger did not have the proper side, I asked for onion rings and they instead gave me steak fries. On top of that, the bottom bun of the burger gave out, making it difficult and messy to eat my burger. Im surprised and shocked because Donovan's is usually better than this. Please learn from these mistakes.
I live in NJ and from time to time I like to visit Donovan's pub for a few beers and also because they have the best pub food in queens . Specially their garlic Parmesan wings . \n\nHowever I must …
Stopped here on Sunday evening for two burgers. Both extremely bland and needed seasoning. Homemade sweet potato was the best part of the meal. Being sat in between the out of order toilet and the table right next to us just had a large dish tray collecting water for our meal wasn’t the most appetizing setting.
My sister and I went this Friday night, and were promptly seated. We ordered two burgers and I got a cosmo. We waited for so long for our water and eventually the cosmo, which ended up tasting like a lukewarm splash of vodka, a splash of cranberry and water. When I finally got the servers attention, and told her it didn’t taste right, she argued with me that it’s “all alcohol” and that she has cosmos all the time. I guess that’s what I get for ordering a cosmo at an Irish pub, I just expected more since they had a long cocktail menu. I work in the industry myself and I get not being happy to work on a Friday night, but I just feel the team was inadequately equipped for the rush of Friday. I think the hostess over sat the server, who was rushed, the bartender didn’t pay attention to detail, and the bussers didn’t really care about helping their team. When our burgers finally came, the woman running it almost gave it to the people next to us, which is fine just a little off putting. There was no salt pepper or ketchup on our table, so we had to ask the nice people dining next to us since the server was nowhere to be seen. The fries where cold and soggy, the onion rings where pretty much a cold pillow of dough around a flimsy onion, and the burger had a bun that was somehow both stale and soggy. It was also cold, and had no flavor. There was no sauce on it. Overall, does not live up to any hype, and not really a great experience. I’d recommend the lowery down the way for a burger over this place. It could be my sister and I are just not the target demographic. I just thought it was a nice neighborhood place we should try despite the walk from sunnyside, and I wanted to try the “best burger in queens”. Anyway, Im glad others enjoy this place, just not for me!
Easter dinner. HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT\nI have been coming to this place since the 70's with my family.\nI decided to have Easter dinner with my daughter. \nOrdered the food and waited 65 minutes for a…
This is one of my favorite restaurants. I’ve been eating here for over 30 years. After what happened today, they won’t be seeing me anytime soon,
Lovely bar., Lovely staff, absolute muck food, five dinners served up, didn't touch it, paid and left.
The food and the service on the food section was phenomenal but everything changed right after we headed the the bar section and the bartender had a nasty attitude don’t know if he was discriminating due to being Hispanic at a Pub but horrible attitude from this bald tall white dude definitely ruined the experience
Walked in at around 11 which was before they close but they just stared at us and said we’re closed. There were other patrons around that were being served… not sure why we were turned away
