Always wanted to eat here but never seem to get the timing right, a friend took him here for a Sunday brunch, and we ordered the two-way combos with ribs and links, potato salad, each of which come with a little piece of bread. Both the ribs and the links were outstanding, slow cooked, smoky, tender, crispy on the edges, and the sauce was excellent. We didn't eat inside though because they were catering for an event, and it was interesting to see a bunch of super well dressed people that looked like they were from down south or had down south roots enjoying some food. Staff was super nice, the lady that served us was a real sweetheart, and the overall experience was excellent. Highly recommended for the barbecue. I'm going to go back and try some of the other things!

That peach cobbler though?! Let's first talk about how amazing the service was....my husband and I have lived in Albany for years but this was our first time at Lizzy's Cajun Cafe and we were blow away with their friendliness, comfort food, and ease of our pick-up delivery. Keenan was very enthusastic and helpful when we arrived to pick up our order. The BBQ chicken, mac-n-cheese, jambalaya and peach cobbler were AMAZING. We highly reccomend this place to anyone craving soul food for their soul.
Really good barbecue and awesome portions. My husband and I shared the 3 way bbq with 2 sides and we had enough for leftovers. The ribs were on point, as was the bbq sauce. Can’t wait to try them again!
This place has great food and the service is incredible!! My wife and l ended up eating here on our way home. I had the catfish and my wife had the mac n cheese, the food was perfect and on top of that my car battery died the lady had an associate there assist me. This is a restaurant that truly deserves to be lifted up and made successful!!
The food is amazing, service is awesome and they are efficient. If you want good southern food, Stop By. Tell the courteous staff Laurie sent you and get a free sample of peach cobbler, fried cabbage or mac n cheese. Trust me, you will be back.
Lizzy and Curtis make incredible food and have put their hearts and souls into this place. I'd highly recommend the BBQ chicken, ribs, and fried cabbage. If you visit they will make your day better - full stop.
Mr. C used to make my mouth water cutting my hair and telling me about his jambalaya. I am so glad he and his family were finally able to realize their dream and open their Cajun Cafe. Haven't tried everything yet, but so far my favorite is the catfish - it is a thing of beauty :) Our kid loves the crabcakes.
Just a lovely neighborhood restaurant, came here today for a leisurely lunch. The bbq and potato salad, bread, hits the spot and the entire family kids and adults loved it. The staff here are so warm and kind, we definitely plan to be back.
Delicious food and wonderful service. The Potato salad and Mac and Cheese were my favorite. The BBQ chicken was cooked to perfection. No complaints!
Great service, great food, great prices.
I walked by one night, just 30 minutes before their closing time. The takeout counter on the side of the restaurant was open. I asked what was available as they seemed to be wrapping up for the night. The chefs told me only a couple of things were available. However, a moment later, they generously offered to make whatever we wanted. So heartwarming! We ended up ordering their freshly made jambalaya and shrimp & grits, on the chef's suggestion. The owner Mr. C invited us to sit inside, made us comfortable while we waited for them to prepare the food. I loved the atmosphere with the musical instruments, various memorabilia revealing the long history of Mr. C's restaurant on Solano Ave. We got a serving of peach cobbler to go. One of my fondest restaurant memories here in the East Bay. Great vibe, huge portions of delicious food, reasonable prices.
Liz and Curtis catered food to my family when I had a death in my family. The varieties and portions were very accommodating and tasty to say the least. Very cost effective and seasoned to taste, definitely from the "Big Easy" (New Orleans). This is not only the best Cajun restaurant of choice in Albany but also in the San Francisco Bay Area....... Try them you won't be disappointed.... Sharon LaQue Jones Benoit
Tried out Lizzy & Mr. C's over the weekend and am still thinking about the food because it was that good. We ordered the three-way BBQ meal with potato salad and baked beans and everything was wonderful. So much flavor that blended perfectly together. Highly recommend that fans of BBQ and cajun/soul food check it out. Will definitely be going back soon!
This food was so delicious and calls back the food I had growing up and traveling around in the southern states: LA, SC, GA, TN. I had the 3- way and a side of fried okra that I split with the family. The fried okra was so good and peppery. I will definitely be coming back to try all their items on the menu.
The service at this place really touched me. Such warm and thoughtful people. The jambalaya had a beautiful complexity and just the right heat, and the fried shrimp had a lovely texture.
Lizzy's Cajun Cafe (902 Masonic Avenue in Albany) is my new favorite place to get food. Their menu is delightful and unique. If you are looking for something different from the usual Albany fare, this is the place. The BBQ chicken and Quita's patty melt are delicious. The chicken was moist and tender and the BBQ sauce is perfection. CBoy's mac and cheese and Flora's Fabulous Peach Cobbler are not to be missed. Curtis, the owner, and Angela are lovely people and make you feel welcome. Lizzy's is open from 11-2 for lunch and 2-7 for dinner Thursday through Sunday. They will soon be offering breakfast....yum! Lizzy's Cajun Cafe is a wonderful addition to the Bay Area's restaurant scene. Please stop by and support this eating establishment, you won't regret it!
Over the decades i have tried to hit as many of the best BBQ smoke houses in the Bay Area. And on a rare occasion, you STRKE GOLD by finding a hidden gem like Lizzy’s Cajan Cafe!!! But to my surprise Lizzy’s is not just a BBQ smokehouse, it also severs a full compliment of southern style dishes, from fried chicken to fried okra & peach cobbler!! Notably, Pit Master Mr. Lee - thank you sir for so passionately infusing all the dishes with just the right amount of spices & flavors into every bite!! Very nicely done!!!

With some restaurants you can detect how much the chef cares about each item they serve. At Lizzy's, I can tell that someone cares a lot about the fried okra, the quality of their catfish and the overall flavor of their bbq chicken. These items were delightful even though the catfish desperately needed flavor that the tartar sauce packet could not help with. I detected that nobody at Lizzy's cares about the potato salad, the fries, the macaroni salad, or the "grilled" veggies. The "grilled" veggies were wet corn, lima beans, and carrots that had never seen a grill in their lives. The reason I won't be back is how I was charged. The final amount that was charged for my takeout order did not match what I wrote on the receipt. An additional $4 was added on the tip line. After exchanging emails with Elizabeth Evans about the overcharge I was told a story about a "merchant fee" and she offered a cash refund as a courtesy. It is not courteous to make customers go back to the restaurant to correct a mistake and help the business avoid a paper trail of this dishonest practice. The amount on the receipt is the amount I agreed to pay and that is that!

I really wanted to enjoy the fried chicken, but it was disappointing. It’s like they took it out of the freezer, flash defrost, dust (and I mean ‘dust’) with flour. There wasn’t any crust or flour which Is what real fried chicken is and should be, otherwise it’s just not fried chicken. Potato salad had raw or undercooked pieces of potato in it. Cubing potatoes just doesn’t work for real potato salad. You need to boil the potatoes and when you cut them up, it’s never uniformly cubes of potatoes. A good potato salad is almost creamy. No noticeable onions, or shallots or any flavoring except mayonnaise. Everything else we had was fried. Fried fish. It was again, unremarkable. The extra ‘merchant charge’ is for what? Is that legal?
It wasn’t a good experience. The food was not tasty, we waited 30 minutes for a fried chicken that doesn’t taste like a fried chicken but a lightly flour dusting drumsticks. The potatoes salad has too much vinegar, the baked beans tasted weeks old. The lettuce in the complementary salad were not fresh and were turning brown, the bbq ribs were not barbecue but baked with store bought bbq sauce. We had flying bugs during our lunch and the room wasn’t clean. I couldn’t wait to leave. I paid more than $60 for two. Don’t recommend this place.
