A very cozy place with good food that has never had to advertise. Very popular through word of mouth.
Good food and great service at a good price. My wife had the Dijon melt with sweet potato fries and absolutely loves it and highly recommends it. I had the Chicken fried steak skillet with with over easy eggs and rye toast. The whole meal was great but I have to give an extra shout out to that rye toast. I know with a meal like this the toast is supposed to be an after thought but it was very good. Coffee seemed better than average for a Cafe, and I would highly recommend and would love to return and try other menu items.
Wow! The food is deliciously fresh and served with heartfelt friendliness. The portions are large and satisfying for a big eater. I ordered the eggs benedict. The eggs were cooked to perfection and the ham was savory and amply portioned to the meal. I will be back for more! The place is small and busy but not crowded. Great food... great service... you can't go wrong.
Today was our first time eating at Spirit River Cafe. The food was delicious and everyone was super friendly. The menu selection was incredible for such a small place. We will definitely be back.
Great food. We had a 20-minute wait but worth it. They accommodated my 4 kids and were patient with us. Country fried chicken, biscuits and gravy, eggs, grits, fruit, and waffles were great! The corned beef hash was not my cup of tea but I'm from the south. Good service, sweet staff. Highly recommend if you are in the area. Again, just know there will be a wait unless you can fit in the bar area!! Enjoy!! Such a great breakfast!!! Loved it!!!
Love Spirit River, food is amazing Atmosphere is great!
Absolutely loved their food!!! We went when it was really busy on the weekend, but felt we were ignored for a good 20-30 minutes. We will come back because the food was so good!!!
This place is great! They have so many options. I got a garden skillet kind of dish. It had so many veggies and the eggs were cooked perfectly. My partner is vegan and he had a handful of options to choose from. They serve lunch and breakfast all day, so you can easily get something without the eggs and cheese, or you can opt for one of the vegan lunches like the veggie burger. My partner got some sort of yummy looking veggie taco thing. Also, the fries are SO GOOD. On top of the great food, the staff is also just the absolute nicest. Our beverages never got below halfway before someone was coming by to refill them. We never had to ask for condiments and they even asked if we wanted others like ranch. Super accommodating and helpful. The inside area is cozy. The restrooms are very clean and nice. They even have an outdoor patio/outdoor seating, so if you have a dog I'm sure you could sit out there. Even if you don't have a dog, it's really pretty and nice! Oh man and I almost forgot that you can get banana bread, pumpkin bread, biscuits and gravy, and other great things as your side with breakfast. I love when I can have a little treat before my main breakfast!!! So good. I love this place and will be going out of my way to come back here again. Also the center that this place is in has a GIANT HORSE at the entrance. Great stop for a photo-op and yummy eats.
I have had their food before, but this was my first time dining in. Lovely people, lovely place. Great atmosphere!
Took our son for a yummy birthday breakfast. They had signs posted that they were short staffed. So we figured we would probably have to wait long. Which we were totally prepared for. We were so wrong about that! The staff was amazing. We were sat within 15 minutes. They served our food so fast and the food was seriously so good! This is a great little place and the atmosphere is so nice.
Great service to start. The food was amazing. My wife had the waffle breakfast, she loved it 😋 I had the Cafe omelet it comes with sausage, bacon, ham, mushrooms topped with country gravey and it comes with a side of toast. You better be hungry. it was delicious. We will definitely be going back soon. Did I mention the service everyone was so nice our waitress was very attentive even though it was very busy.
We were celebrating Father's Day a day early. Service and food were excellent and the staff helped us acknowledge our dads with ice cream and a candle. We had a great experience.
I drive down to Apple Valley from Carson City a few times a year to visit my elderly father and this restaurant is always on my must visit list. The service is excellent and the food is fantastic. I always get the combo omelet which is like a meat lovers omelet and it always leaves me full and my taste buds satisfied. My dad eats here around 2-3 times a week and always has a great meal. I can't wait to visit again.
First time eating here. Biscuits and gravy delicious. I ordered the steak dry with no favor. I will not order that again. My daughter had the hash and she said best she ever ate. Pancake was really good
I absolutely love this place. They always have the best service and the food is always so delicious. Sunday mornings can get a bit busy, but if you come in early, the wait is very minimal.
Great food, friendly staff. Going again soon for our ladies breakfast 😋
We went to lunch on Sunday. It was out 1st trip here. There was a 20 minute wait but, well worth it! The food is delicious and the portions are generous. One of the plates came with a slice of banana bread. We had them grill it and added cream cheese. It was AWESOME!!! Waitress was friendly and efficient. We would come back here again and again...maybe just for another slice of bread!
Excellent foods! Excellent service! I recommend this place if you're looking to enjoy yourself and have a great time eating.
This is our place! We love the food, the service, the servers are all super friendly and fast! Even when they tell you the wait might be 10-15 minutes you get in sooner than that! My husband and I are here almost every weekend. The portions are very generous, you almost always take some home. We love this restaurant!!
...to sum it up... why eat any where else!!! The owner and employees are exemplary!!! ...sooo warm, welcoming, and the menu is breakfast to lunch fantastic, indescribably scrumptious, more than generous...the best!!! really !!! why eat anywhere else !!!!
I am grading on the quality of the food alone, it is always amazing no matter what you order. I had the Texas skillet, just yum. Here are some things to take into consideration before you visit: 1. There is a long wait. 2. They are only open until 2. 3. Don't sit outside when there is a wait. 4. Servers are friendly and the portions are large.
I give this place a 5 + stars plus. My husband and I go here as often as we can. It's a small place, but the food and service are terrific. We have never been disappointed.
Great experience! Friendly staff and great food!!
The restaurant is very clean which is very important for me. The employees are super nice. The food is very delicious and is comfort food. I recommend here to everyone.
What a great place to EAT!! KILLER FOOD! AMAZING SERVICE.
We ate there recently and loved it. It was warm inside so we sat outside. The service was everything you could ask for. They repeatedly checked on us, and we were never without. The food was delicious. It had so much flavor. Can't wait for the next visit.
They have the best food. The Cinnamon Pecan Roll French toast was the best I've ever had!! It's so nice to sit outside early in the morning.
Great food .Great service.
Large portions and fresh food. The staff at Spirit River really work hard to make sure you have a great experience there. Fast, friendly service and good prices. Great place to go for a quick lunch and also cozy enough to have a yummy brunch. -Pictures of the stuffed blueberry French toast, eggs Benedict and fresh fruit.
Loved the food here. It was homestyle, warm and delicious!! The service was quick and very friendly. They fill up quickly so you have to get there early for a seat and their early bird specials 6-8 a.m. I ordered the Vera Cruz omelette that has egg whites, pepper jack cheese and green chilies, yum! My sister ordered the Garden Skillet with sweet potato fries instead of homefries, double yum!! Come on down to the Spirit River Cafe your stomach will thank you!
There's usually a wait, but always worth it. Went again on Sunday 8/7. It's not on the menu, so you have to ask for it; their Monte Cristo is one of the best I've ever had. They don't deep fry it, so it's a bit healthier and tastes just as good. Keep up the great value, great food & efficient service Spirit River! We'll be back!
We sat outside because it was a nice day. They have a great patio area. Food was delicious and service even better.
Everything is awesome about here. They have the best biscuits and gravy I have ever had. I was there when jeffery( the guy who left the bad review before me) there was a small mistake that wasn’t even the employees fault and he started to get crazy. He was cussing up a storm in front of children with no remorse. Even when asked to leave he refused and kept cussing until the manager started to call the cops. Don’t let his review affect your decision in eating here cause it’s the best breakfast place in the high desert.
Great breakfast option. Food and service was awesome.
Definitely recommend! I love it there great service and food.
Best service. Best food. Biscuits & Gravy to die for.
We ate breakfast here on 7/13/25. The food was delicious, we had an omelette and chicken fried steak. My husband—-who is hard to please—said it was the best he’s ever had and he would order it again!
The speed of service was fast but personable, the food was hot and fresh, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. By far one of the best restaurants I've ever been to and would have given 6/5 stars if I was able. Highly recommend! I would have taken photos of my food but it was too tempting not to eat immediately
A little cramped because it was busy but the food was really good, the servers were super nice and I definitely plan on going again to see everything they have but the pot roast was great. The mashed potatoes were cooked amazingly.
Spirit River is a great café. It is small with limited seating. There is usually a wait. Because of the limited space inside, you wait outside. There are patio tables to sit at. Inside is a western themed dining room. There are breakfast and lunch items and a variety of mimosas. The staff is welcoming and helpful. Menu items are between $10-20.
Great food - I finished my whole plate of sausage biscuits with gravy, eggs, ranch potatoes (bellpepper and onions) with grits. 10/10 would definitely eat here again and will be soon
Great food, good prices, decent service. It's going to be our new "go to" place for breakfast or lunch.
First time i've ever been there and the food is really good and good price too.
Great food and service. Reasonable prices. Simple but cozy ambiance. This is the first local restaurant I've found that actually makes a good steak and egg breakfast! My wife is enjoying all the different omelet and skillet choices available. I tell you, we were diehard Molly Brown's Country Cafe patrons until we discovered this place. Highly recommended.
Outstanding service and food make this the 'go-to' for breakfast and lunch. It's very much a community, as I seem to meet the same people. Energetic and Helpful Servers with a great menu that is expertly prepared with care.
My son and I had breakfast there today. Service was efficient, warm and friendly. The food was delicious. We had steak and eggs. Steak was cooked perfectly. My son had biscuits and gravy and the potions were generous. Prices were fair. We will return.
Found a gem in the desert with this quaint restaurant. Food is very good with big enough portions. Went for a lste breakfast and will have to go back for lunch since bfast was very good. We waited a couple of minutes to sit because it was busy. Customers ranged from families to elderly with a steady stream of people going in and out. The experience was god from start to finish. Courteous & awesome service and food was very good.
Upon entering there was no wait, me and my fiance were asked if it was for two and it was so we were immediately seated. Our waitress was friendly and respectful and attended us to our needs. I asked for the most fresh and popular item on the menu and she replied without hesitation as you can see in the photos. The food was delicious and very filling, and you won't leave unhappy. The feeling of this cafe is very comfortable and relaxing. Seating is a bit tight but is to be expected from the flow of traffic the cafe receives. Overall a must go if you are ever in apple valley from the hours of 7am yo 2pm.
Delicious and satisfying Homestyle meals. I strongly recommend this place. My personal pick is the perfect portion breakfast. I did it with biscuits and gravy on the side that are absolutely amazing. The service is hens down extremely hospitable. I noticed that the servers never let your coffee go empty. On point. Thank you very much to Priscilla for a wonderful time.
Great food! Good atmosphere! I was a little upset at the fact that they have a senior discount and a veterans discount but it was never mentioned. (I happened to see it on a take out menu that I requested on our way out). My Dad (at 80 years old) is both a senior and a veteran My sister and I are seniors I know the servers can’t read minds but it would have been a nice discount to have been made aware of That being said I would definitely eat there again (and ask for the discounts)!
Nice place to eat kinda hard to find if you're just winging it without GPS it's a touch hidden. The breakfast is good the only issue I had was the steak was a bit tough and not really seasoned at all. Other than that the food is great.
Location:Good,Parking:Good, Service:Good, Food for price: balanced, Overall: First time try I thought the breakfast/lunch only finer was pretty good the place seemed busy with folks waiting to come in. My meal was the tri-tip sandwich, that was very tasty. If I am in the area I will stop by again....
Great brunch spot. Food is delicious, coffee is fresh & hot & good (I'm picky). My Benedict meal said 3 eggs on the menu & I received 2 (this happened twice), but there was plenty of food & it was very good. Service is friendly & cheerful but not super attentive. They are busy indeed!
Catherine the waiter is so wonderful and the food is delicious, some other waiters are more serious and not as friendly. I said thank you a couple of times and it was like she just ignored me and walked away didn't even acknowledge me. I get it's a job. The cooks (food) and Catherine is wonderful 😊
Had to come here as the place is very popular on Google. The place is small but cozy. I would like it better if they had booths, but I can deal without from time to time. The service was amazing. Cara was our server and she did an amazing job! But it looks like the other servers do a great job too. The food was good as well. Will be coming back to try out the lunch menu soon.
I ordered the breakfast combo with steak and eggs. The steak was dry and of poor quality. The biscuit and gravy were the worst— the biscuits were as hard as cardboard. Overall, it was a low-quality meal. However, the waitress was very nice.
Normally, this is a five-star place. Today was a disappointment. We were sat next to the toilets which we didn't want. I think we annoyed the staff by asking to move to a different table We were then ignored for a good 10-15 minutes. A regular bloody Mary was requested and one that was delivered was extremely spicy. Our new waitress didn't apologize just grabbed it and left and didn't offer to remake it in a better way. Our food took a while to get to us and while it was hot and pretty good that was the best part which was mediocre. There was no finesse, no cute quaint enthusiasm for us being there. Not sure we'll ever go back honestly. The five or six other times we've been here it's been very good. Very disappointed today. 3 stars were given because the portions were very good.
New owner. I ordered the garden omelet and got a scramble?? I'm not sure why. We were told they only serve 2 eggs now? My friend ordered eggs over hard and bacon. The eggs were over easy.. close to raw. The bacon was hard and tasted terrible. Very disappointing. It has been our go-to restaurant for 5 years. I will try one more time, in case it was just a bad day.
Wanted to give them a better review - it's not the food or the service, although the cooks are a bit long winded and i can hear them talking smack - the kitchen is literally visible. But, it's the wait - instead of alerting folks who sit around after eating they need to go, they allow folks to wait - we left twice after almost 30 min - have not returned for 2024 or 2025. Might mosey over this year and hope the issue is addressed with signs or some notification - people don't care if your customers are waiting, so a business should care.
I found this place because the first review says best breakfast in the area. I had the Texas Skillet, and I got to have BANANA BREAD AS A SIDE! That was an amazing option!!! The atmosphere was like a happy with a ranch twist, and the staff was super friendly and were there to refill my coffee and ask me if I needed anything without having to flag them down. The prices for everything were very reasonable for the amount of food you get and they offer mamosas to top off your meal. The reason the food score is lower is because of my tritip. When you walk into a ranch style place and they offer tritip in your skillet, you would think of a juicy tender piece of steak to sop up you runny eggs and shared vegetables. The peices of steak I had were the size of small bacon bits and were overcooked and chewy. It was a little disappointing, but the rest of the food was pretty good. I will definitely try to make it back to try one of the huge burritos that walked past me or one of those omelets.
Was told "not a long wait" and seated 45 minutes later. Then waited another 25 to order. Drinks tasted off and watered down while being told it was "coke products". The waiter seemed inconvenienced by having to wait on us and had very unfriendly attitude for someone I've never met.she also filled up our cups with other cups which seemed super questionable, especially since we saw her using pitchers for other people. I got chicken fried steak with eggs and it was covered in gravy which if that's your thing more power to you but half the meal was gravy. Nothing else really had a taste to it even after Ketchup, salt and pepper. It's not the cooks fault its the quality of food and they way they are forced to cook it.the little cut up pieces of sausage was just insulting for what is normally cooked into the gravy to give it flavor. No flavor. It was just plain out of a can gravy. So all in all it was an awful way to spend 2 hours and 50 bucks for 2 people. 8 dollars for 2 cokes is crazy. We drank maybe 1 liter of coke between the both of us and it was watered down for 8 bucks. If you go order water or take your own drink.
First time here. Food was ok. Nothing remarkable. Definitely over priced. Waitresses were not very friendly. We felt rushed to leave. Waitress was removing condiments off our table even before we were finished with our meals. Which was very unprofessional and rude. Most likely will not return. Big disappointment.
Breakfast is awesome. Tried it for lunch and wasn't good. Patty Melt was awful. Dry, burnt meat, uncooked onions and nothing else. Worst lunch I have ever had and I'm 70 years old.
I walked in and on first appearance it's really nice ...but when I asked to be seated I was told I had to sit at bar no singles at a table and im understanding so I sit at the bar but as locals come in with out questions they are seated at table by them selfs (singles) and served and are able to order not sure what policy they are following but I definitely was uncomfortable ...I still waited patiently to get to be seated and still ordered because I came to enjoy breakfast...
I am a white female and they made me feel like I was not white enough. Also they will not accommodate customers who have Had gastric bypass. This is the only restaurant in 2 yrs that has not allowed me to order off the kids or Seniors Menu.
Excellent service! Very clean! Atmosphere was superb in every aspect! Kudos to the food servers!!!!!! Big thumbs up. But with that said…. Food was bland. But presentation was very appealing to the eye. I ordered the spicy spuds hoping for an explosion of flavor…. But was disappointed… I would only recommend this cafe for meetings and coffee. Other than that…. I promise you the food will disappoint you.
Honestly, don't really care for this place.Really small and feel rushed when being there.Typical food in the high desert.Don't believe the hype. Then again when visiting with family there is so many better options down the hill.We are very limited up here. Its always been one of the biggest downfalls of living in.the desert.Food is blah!
I’ve been religiously going to Sperit river once a week for the last 15 years. New management has put a stop to this. It’s been a close family of customers and servers for years. The new manager keeps screwing up seating guests in order or maybe he has his own priority list. It appears that the servers aren’t happy either. Many of them have left.
Good experience. Will not return, because of extra fee for using a card.
I've been here several times and always take my family. I've recommended this place to almost everyone I know. Two different families that I recommended told me they felt unwelcomed there. I didn't think much of it. However, I recently went there with my family. While we were still eating a waitress just came to our table picked up our dishes and said you guys are done here right and walked off with almost full dishes. Didn't ask if we needed a to go box or anything. We were kind of in shock. I still left a decent tip because I normally don't judge an entire business/staff by one person's action. But considering what others I recommend to this place have experienced, the fact that this was not done to any tables around us and empty tables still available in the restaurant I have to ask myself if this was because I didn't blend in with the crowd? I really hope this isn't the case and the Spirit River Cafe do what's right to remain a gem in the HD. This place has great food and make a decent Bloody Mary.
