My only complaint is that some tables are way too small for a guy my size. The hostess saw my discomfort right away and got us a different table without me having to even ask. I think last night's meal made my top five all time. The quality of the ingredients is superb and the preparation is very light handed, creative and extraordinarily well balanced. We ordered Omakase for four and they were very accommodating to the split dietary restrictions of the table. Fantastic sake list.

Steve Brandes

When you think of high-end sushi, this is the place. We went with the Omakase and were very pleased. Although I think next time we will sit up at the sushi bar. Highly recommended. Also, this place is not cheap so be prepared! By the way, where we were sitting was very dark so I tried my best to get decent photos of the dishes. And please don't ask me what they were, because there were so many that came out and there's no way I could remember them all. If it looks like salmon, it's salmon! If it looks like meat, it was probably a5 wagyu. All in all a perfect experience. But I would suggest that they add a little more lighting or turn up the lights a little more.

Karin Kukla

We asked them to feed us, and this was probably the best meal we've ever had. Seriously. The service is exceptional, our server was knowledgeable about their menu, and after answering some simple questions about our taste/preferences she curated a tasting menu we won't forget anytime soon. If you are in Austin and enjoy this cuisine, go. Make a reservation and GO!

Had a reservation for 9:30PM. By the time we got our food, it wasn't busy. For a party of 4, we ordered 18 dishes handpicked by a friend who happens to be an Uchi employee. The selection mainly consisted of their favorite dishes. Although the portions are small and come with a higher price tag, it is undoubtedly a destination worth splurging on for a special occasion or to indulge in culinary artistry that few can replicate.

Our wonderful waitperson, Alexis, did an amazing job curating a fantastic somakase meal for my partner and I. Each dish felt very thoughtful and was gluten-free to boot (but did not taste "gluten-free" if you know what I mean!)! Our menu consisted of foods paired with some tasty drinks--that I now realize I didn't take pictures of. I was lost in sharing the fun and unique combinations of textures, flavors, and temperatures of each of the dishes with my partner. The two of us most definitely thoroughly enjoyed our meal and felt very well taken care of by Alexis. Thank you so much for an unforgettable anniversary dinner!

I’m not from Austin and almost everyone I asked for restaurant recommendations suggested this place. I wasn’t really sure what to expect so I went for happy hour to catch the vibe. Ended up ordering maybe 15 dishes. Incredible quality. Don’t think I’ve had sashimi this good anywhere but costal towns. Our server Yumi was an absolute angel. Impeccable menu knowledge. Gave us great recommendations. Give this girl a raise. She truly made our experience. Absolutely suggest the wagyu carpaccio and all the nigiri and sashimi we had SLAPPPEDDD. The unfiltered sake was so delicate and beautiful. Bushido sake is dangerously crushable.

Definitely a must, I had a spectacular time dinning here. I absolutely wanna thank Rose , who crafted her own Omakase experience for me 💛. Without a doubt she is a true asset for Uchi and can truly elevate a customers experience with her knowledge and way to foresee a client's desires. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

S
Saleema Kherani-Ali

The food and ambiance was great! We had some of the best sushi and sashimi over here. Although the wait between each item that was served was longer than I expected.

C
Clara De Ridder

It was anniversary. And my husband brought me here after work since he knows I love Omakase. We came at 6pm which was still quiet until by 7pm more people started to come. We dressed up formal from other Omakase restaurant experiences dress code was formal but a lot of people came very casual. The food experience and taste was delicious I just would have prefer more comfortable seating to two bar stools with a small table in between other people.

Lovely sushi place on South congress av. Huge selection of plates with innovative flavours. Staff was super helpful and nice trying to help us find the best dishes. We tried a selection of different dishes. Slightly pricey but definitely worth it!

That's a fantastic testimonial for a sushi place! It clearly highlights how they managed to convert someone who was strictly a sashimi eater. Here is a review draft based on your feedback: 🍣 Stellar Sushi Experience! ⭐️ As someone who only eats sashimi and typically avoids traditional sushi, I went into this expecting the usual. This place, however, totally changed my mind! The quality of the fresh food is truly outstanding. The combination of flavor and freshness in their rolls was so exceptional that I am now a convert. If you are a sashimi purist, or just looking for truly high-quality, flavorful sushi, you must try this spot!

Had a wonderful experience at Uchi tonight, they were able to accommodate a last min time change to our reservation which was much appreciated. The service was impeccable, John & Karen were both very knowledgeable in the menu and able to provide some delicious suggestions. We went with the Omakase, I would highly suggest this, you will not be disappointed. Everything was fresh and tasted out of this world. Highly recommend for a nice night out with friends or for a date night. 10+/10

We stumbled in here on a whim and was some of the best food I've ever had. Rose was so helpful and answered every question we had. She was very helpful guiding me thru what I could eat with an allergy. We're already planning to come back one more time before we head back home.

Wow, what an amazing night! We had Joe Guerra as our server and he was absolutely the best! His ability to tune into people and provide the perfect food choices is incredibly impressive. This young man is truly gifted and made the night a memorable experience. Highly recommend!

N
Ngoc Dang

The food is wonderful as always. High-quality ingredients and excellent execution. My favorite dish of the night was the A5 makimono. All of the ingredients were balanced and worked so well together that I was so confused and enjoyed eating it at the same time. My second favorite was the Kinoko Nabe. I called it a fancy fried rice (Sorry chef.) It's similar to the Korean bibimbap where they serve the dish in a hot bowl, mix it in front of you. I added the Foie Gras to the dish. We also tried the trout roe. It was served with taro chips; however, I'd prefer to pair it with something softer since I like the texture of the roe and did not want the crispy chips to overpowered it. We pretty much knew what we wanted to order. We ordered all of the items at the start of the night, so the waitress could pace them out. I'd recommend doing this because the food portion is small so you don't want to order 1 or 2 items at a time due to wait time. This time the wait in between dishes was a bit uneven than I expected: sometimes it was too slow, and sometimes the food came all at once.

Delicious fresh fish. Excellent PEI oysters. Attention to service and detail. Liked negihama and eel nigiri.

Uchi is truly an Austin staple that provides a world class dining experience. They have extremely knowledgeable people that perfectly orchestrate an experience that consistently surpasses expectation. Thank you!

Fusion omakase (but in the best way!), friendly service, nice cocktails and wine list - all worth the price ticket for a special occasion or to get to know! If the budget or the hunger is smaller, a la carte should be worth it as well. Reservations recommended.

Went here to eat with my dad who is not a fan of sushi, but we both very much enjoyed every dish we ate. Servers were very attentive and well informed on the menu. Had a great night here. Big recommend.

totally deserves a michelin star! we booked for dinner and blew our expectations. a definite visit. having gone to nobu malibu, this was much better. every single dish/sushi/nigiri was amazing. the experience was enhanced by the staff explaining how to best enjoy each dish, ensuring we got the most out of every bite. it had outdoor, indoor and bar seating. also had a separate vegetarian menu which was nice. beef wellington was good as well. atmosphere was dim, candle light vibe. would be a good birthday dinner, date night spot.

M
Mone Miller

Incredible! We are vegan and they were not only accommodating, but every dish was amazing and served to perfection! Beautiful, flavorful, and complex in every bite. We celebrated our 9 year anniversary tonight and they surprised us with multiple items based on what we liked. Our waitress Kat was lovely and the bartender (I didn’t get their name 😩) was wonderful too. They both recommended sakes that we thoroughly enjoyed. Can’t wait to come back for the next occasion or just because 😏😉

I came to this place twice while in Austin. I love the fancy feel when arrive from the valet. I chose to sit outdoors which didn't disappoint. The food was amazing and the service was great. They pay attention to you and your needs. I was recommended some options & I'm glad I did try them.

My partner surprised me with a birthday dinner at Uchi, and it was nothing short of spectacular. From the moment we arrived, the staff went above and beyond to make the evening special, acknowledging our celebration with warm hospitality and impeccable service. Every detail was thoughtfully executed, leaving us completely cared for and wanting for nothing. As for the food—simply extraordinary. From the first bite to the last, each dish was a perfectly balanced combination of bold and unforgettable. From apps to dessert, every course exceeded expectations, making for an indulgent and truly memorable dining experience. Uchi Austin is more than just a meal—it’s an experience, and one I’ll cherish for a long time. I can’t recommend it highly enough!

The food was perfect. We tried 10 dishes. They were all interesting and flawless. But…it was the service that made Uchi remarkable. The staff knew every dish down to the studs (including the back story on the vinegar coating the compressed watermelon. Wow.)The prices are eye watering, but worth it for a remarkable experience.

been in the Austin area for over three years and just now getting to Uchi's - highly recommend this fantastic restaurant on Lamar Street. If you’re not sure what you want to get, you can rely on the chefs to provide you everything that you will need to leave happy. Excellent atmosphere excellent food excellent service - they could do no wrong.

We knew about Uchi because it's supposed to be the best restaurant in Austin. A special occasion came up, so we visited on a Saturday night. I am pleased to report it blew us away. It's rare to have an eating experience unlike any you've had before. The dishes were perfectly prepared - particularly the sauces. What stood out most to me were the flavors: exquisitely crafted and balanced. I'm not a big raw fish fan, but I enjoyed everything I ate. The service was also quite good. We mentioned our special occasion and the server brought us a really good trout dish on the house. Complimentary valet parking was nice too. Definitely will be going back and couldn't be happier with our experience!

Excellent meal as always. We've been coming here for years and it never disappoints. Amazing food and great staff. The inside can get a little noisy but not a big deal. Highly recommend the omakase menu.

This place deserves all the positive reviews you have read. Fantastic service. The food is amazing. I’m not even going to give recommendations - you can just soak in the beauty from the photos. The menu has a hundred items you’re going to want to order. Their craft cocktails are fantastic too. Well worth the high prices.

Wow! Amazing experience! Came here for a friend’s birthday. The waitress was exceptional. Attentive, friendly, and really knows how to do her job to make us comfortable. The food is extremely good! Top quality and interesting flavours. Some dishes are a discovery for your palate. This is more a fusion of Japanese food with a touch of Texas vibes. If you’re looking for something of this type, totally recommended! Book a few weeks ahead!

I recently dined at Uchi for the first time, and I honestly don’t have the words to fully describe how over-the-top incredible the experience was. The menu alone was overwhelming—in the best way—because every single item sounded amazing. Since the evening was more about conversation, I didn’t want to spend time studying the menu, so I put my trust entirely in our server, Joe, and asked him to bring his recommendations. That decision could not have paid off more. Every dish he selected was outstanding. But what truly set Joe apart was that his knowledge went far beyond just knowing the menu—each dish arrived with a thoughtful explanation and even tips on how to best enjoy it. His personality was the perfect balance of fun and professional, and he elevated an already great dining experience into something truly memorable. The next time I dine at Uchi, I’ll be requesting Joe without hesitation—and I won’t even need a menu. I’ll happily take his advice again.

Alexis really took care of us. A large part of the group had never had sushi before and she remained flexible and affable and gave great recommendations. Everyone was full and very happy at the end of the meal. We were also celebrating the first anniversary of one of the couples present and they felt so special through her treatment of our table. We love bringing people to Uchi because the experience is consistently excellent and the food is top tier.

Zachary Gilkerson

Food: We ordered the Ni and San to go. The Ni is 100% worth getting for as close to the Uchi experience at home as possible. The chirashi was my wife's favorite and isn't something that we've gotten at Uchi before since we typically omakase. Since we were celebrating we also splurged on a San to check it out. The San includes caviar, creme fraiche, and Ruffles potato chips. The combination was fun to combine and eat, plus it was tasty too! The mother of pearl spoons are also quite cute to keep as memorabilia. I'd recommend getting a San in addition to a Ni if looking for that little extra oomph. Story: To celebrate the birth of our baby my wife and I planned to have Uchi for months. Unfortunately SXSW was happening the same week so it was not possible to order due to the high demand. I ended up driving to Uchi in the hopes that maybe we could work something out but alas they were slammed and could not. The hostess did let me know that they should be opened back up by the following Tuesday to take orders again. Just as she said, so it was and I placed an order! Uchi was fast, the order was ready for pick up in about an hour. When I walked in I let one of the hostesses know and only needed to wait a minute or so while they went to get the sushi. When she returned she also had the manager with her. The manager, Tori, let me know that while they were not able to accommodate me earlier due to SXSW she was grateful that we still chose to make Uchi a part of our celebration. They gave us a free pint of fried milk plus her card so we can let her know when my wife and I are able to come in person next. 10/10 experience

Uchi is hands down one of the top sushi spots in Austin. The quality, freshness, and flavor of their sushi are exceptional, making it a must-visit for sushi lovers. The tuna, uni, and salmon were all outstanding, with the uni from Hokkaido and Santa Barbara standing out as some of the best you can find. We sat at the bar and ordered all three types of Toro, along with Salmon Nigiri—everything was beautifully prepared and bursting with flavor. There aren’t many places in Austin where you can get high-quality Toro and uni, but Uchi delivers on both. Beyond the food, the service is impeccable. The staff is not only skilled and knowledgeable but also incredibly talented and engaging. The entire experience—from the atmosphere to the presentation—makes it well worth the price. Not cheap, but absolutely worth it. Highly recommended for anyone looking for top-tier sushi in Austin!

Sooo good! It was our first time at Uchi. We went at 4:30 and it was slammed, clearly these guys are doing something right. We had the happy hour menu for 2, absolutely incredible. We sat outside with the heaters and it was perfect. I love this restaurant, it's creative, delicious, beautiful food and the staff are incredible.

Wow! I repeat, Wow!!! I've been dreaming of eating at Uchi for a long time. Finally, I took my courage with two hands to go. But I went to their happy hour. I could never afford their full price menu. Unlike some other restaurants, their happy hour do not crimp on quality. Everything I ordered delicious, better yet, wonderfully fresh and tasty. Atmosphere: their environment is warm and classy. A bit noisy, but that is expected. See pictures. 5 stars. Service: Although it was very busy, the service was professional, attentive, but not intrusive. Perfect. 5 stars. Food: I kept the best for last. I started with a zero proof drink: Sparkling lime fire. Fresh with a touch of spicy ginger. 1 dish: sake Tom ka: salmon, coconut lime leaf and dill. A wonderful combination. 2nd dish: wake, walu: a warm serving of oaked-grilled Escobar, uzupon and candied garlic. The umami flavor combination was surprising and wonderful. You have to try it. 3rd dish: bluefin akami nigiri: bluefin tuna, pickled wasabi and bincho nigiri/sashimi. A wonderful combo. And lastly, for dessert, a carrot cake ice cream sandwich: an intriguing parlay of a pecan shortbread cookie encasing a smooth buttermilk ice cream with carrot jelly. Amazing! As a retired pastry chef, I tend to look forward to desserts. I highly recommend you try it. Voila! A special occasion that went beyond my expectations. Chef Alain Braux

Always a complete pleasure eating here. Service and atmosphere are as expected. The food never disappoints. My cold sake was creamy and refreshing. The wagyu carpacio is delicious!! I tried all three of the market selection and all 3 were amazing. The grilled fish appetizer is stupid good, with perfect texture and flavor. The scallop bites are always super fresh and bright. The tuna hand roll bursts with flavor. The Cesar hand roll is so underrated, so delicious. I'll enjoy many more happy hours here

Amazing experience. One of the best jap-fusion restaurants I've had and unique flavour combos - pairing Thai green curry with lobsters, tempura rice rolls with Vietnamese fish sauce.

This is the best sushi in Austin and it puts Chicago’s Nobu to shame. Just came back from a Chicago trip where we ate at Nobu. We had the pleasure of dining at Uchi before our Nobu visit so both were fresh on our palates. Both have fantastic service but Uchi wins on quality, flavor and creativity. Nobu was basic and Uchi is creative - like the use of lime zest and sea salt on their amazing sea bream. And the 72 hour wagyu can’t be beat!

I love that Uchi continues to be a fantastic restaurant. We hadn't been for several years and since then we've become vegetarian, which is great for us because Uchi offers many fun vegetarian options now! Here's what we had: Favorites: yasai cure - my fav dish of theirs was the machi cure and I believe this is their vegetarian version. I was blown away that they could recreate this without fish. It was fantastic - perfect combination of flavors. hana nigiri - really delicious and savory. Wouldn't have guessed this was cauliflower. Biendo - fantastic roll. Our waiter said it was their take on a spring roll. Light and fresh with bold flavors. It was wonderful Broccoli katsu - holy crap this was fantastic. Perfect little bites of the best fried broccoli ever, with a wonderful dipping sauce. Pretty good: Sunomono - delightful light and crisp salad. Pretty tasty and fun. They always make things taste amazing with asian pears. Kinoko skewer - delicious mushroom skewer. I liked the addition of the sauce and cilantro. I'd probably try the kinoko nigiri next time instead. Korokke - these were so fun! The actually reminded us more of the katsu curry that we've had in the past. They were pretty hefty and flavourful - the sauce was totally unexpected in the best way Pumpkin nigiri - it wasn't on their menu but they brought it for my bday as a gift. The pumpkin was good but the little bit of topping tied it all together with a citrus delicousness Wouldn't get again: Shag - This was their vegetarian version. Unfortunately, I wasn't a fan - too many heavy ingredients and soft textures. Service was excellent and everything was enjoyed with their wonderful sake.

Amazing date night here at Uchi! All the selections were so delicious but my favorites were the karaage, yellowtail collar, banana cake, and the sorbet! Joy was such a great server and chef! Thank you for the awesome service 🥰

My husband and I had an incredible anniversary dinner at this amazing restaurant. The Negitoro was the star of the show - you absolutely must try it! The Sake Tom Kah was also fantastic, especially the sushi salmon belly and the Shag. We also tried the pork belly, which was delicious, but it didn’t quite measure up to the rest of the dishes. On a sweet note, the restaurant was so generous that they gave us a free plate as a special anniversary treat. They were truly thoughtful! I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience.

Very nice experience here. The sashimi is what you want here. Fatty tuna and sake. Each dish was plated artistically which we appreciate when the portions are essentially exactly like in Japan, just enough to make you want more! Everything has a clean, fresh flavor. Each ingredient is pronounced and balanced. The menu is expansive giving something for almost everyone. Would be very boring to be a vegetarian or vegan here. The fish, caviar, and beef are outstanding. Our server was Sara. Greeted us with a huge smile and eye contact. Super patient, explained the whole menu thoroughly, made thoughtful suggestions being first time diners and overall very genuine person. Atmosphere was nice. Calming and not too loud. Appropriate music level and sound track. Restrooms were clean. Free valet so parking is a non-issue! Will dine here again!

We had the Omikase service here ladt Saturday and it was nothing short of superb. From the attentive and very pleasant valets. The ambiance of the restaurant was just perfect. We were seated quickly a the staff were not only attentive but great. The food was out of this world. The explanation for each meal was fantastic and we had to order seconds. Shoutout to Cat our server, she was very attentive and took care of our group. She was very nice and answered every question we had about the meals and drinks. Uchi is now a staple in our go to restaurants in Austin.

Google removed my original review. Not sure why. Our first experience here was amazing. Our waiter gave us a 5* experience! Even received an email with credit voucher, which we never got to use. :( Now it’s business as usual, still nice service. We tend to go out of our way to all their TX locations and met Tyson once, got to be a taster for one of his experimental dish which went on the menu. That was awesome!!! Many years after seeing Uchi on the food network, still love it! Note on my rating, sharing this as I believe some may assume a 3-star review indicates a mediocre experience. This time pretty much order from happy hour and some from main menu. 5 stars: Exceptional! Outstanding food, service, and/or experience—well worth traveling for. (For example, we often drive from San Antonio to Austin just for Uchi.) 4 stars: Surpasses expectations in terms of food, service, and/or ambiance. 3 stars: Solidly good or meets expectations. I would revisit any place rated 3 stars or higher. 2 stars: Falls below acceptable standards for food or service. 1 star: Best to avoid.

Been coming here for years. Food and service are still great as always. I have always had the best experience at this Uchi over the others in town, and that continues to be true. I do think their prices have been creeping up over the years, probably more than they should have (especially the omakase), but I do think the experience as a whole is still quite good. Their non-fish options have definitely expanded over the years, which has allowed me to bring people who don't like fish/seafood.

The vegetarian tasting menu is SO incredibly good. We’ve done other tasting menus but this one undoubtedly takes the cake. Absolutely scrumptious courses! Our waitress Emma was super sweet and the food was unforgettable. Uchi is a must-visit for special occasions and celebrations :) Officially my new favorite restaurant in Austin!

Amazing experience at this sushi restaurant. Staff was very knowledgeable and worked with us to help us decide on what we should order for our taste preferences and it was right on point. Will definitely be returning. Valet parking available but we asked and were able to park our own car nearby easily as well.

Exceptional! Best meal in Austin — best meal ever! If it were possible to give MORE stars, then Uchi would receive way more than the available five here. Every single moment and every bite was decadent. Highlights: hot rock; uni from Santa Barbara and Hokkaido; pork belly; snow crab. My partner very much enjoyed the brussels sprouts. I don’t usually order dessert but we got the banana cake and honey toast. I could not pick which one was better. The service was on point. Superbly kind and considerate with the perfect balance of communication. I recommend making a reservation in advance, although, it did not seem as though parties waited very long for a table. Also, complimentary valet! We got one of the best tables in the place! We shall return!

THIS IS PROBABLY THE BEST RESTAURANT I'VE EVER BEEN TO. We got a reservation at UCHI for my birthday this past February & I was blown away. We considered trying the chef's tasting menu but instead just opted to order a bunch of stuff off the menu instead. Everything was delicious and presented beautifully. We started off with a series of nigiri including a sea bream, amberjack, salmon, scallops, and my wife's favorite the super tender Japanese eggplant. Then we wolfed down a couple of MAKIMONO rolls of Tuna & more Salmon. Then we shared a pot of KINOKO NABE, a seasonal mushroom dish served with koshihikari rice & egg yolk. For desert we shared an ice cream dish called HONEY TOAST which was super delicious. I'm not even a dessert lover, but that Honey Toast was awesome. I cannot stress enough what an amazing job the wait staff was doing. Our server was phenomenal, attentive, friendly & incredibly considerate, to a level I've never seen at any other restaurant. 10 out of 10. We will be going back.

From the moment we stepped into Uchi Austin, my husband and I knew we were in for something special, and it exceeded every expectation. Thank you for the recommendation #Grok4—this was a dining experience we’ll be raving about back in Tampa Bay! Emma and the entire Uchi team were nothing short of exceptional. Their warmth, knowledge, and genuine passion for the food created an atmosphere that felt both welcoming and elevated. Emma took the time to listen to our flavor preferences and curated a wonderful omakase experience that was perfectly tailored to our tastes. The pacing of the meal was impeccable, each course arriving just as we were ready to savor the next, allowing us to fully immerse ourselves in the artistry of every dish. Every bite was a yum😋 , showcasing Uchi’s signature balance of fresh, high-quality ingredients and innovative flavor combinations. Standouts included the **Otoro Nigiri**, a silky, melt-in-your-mouth masterpiece that was pure decadence. The **Masu Crudo** (ocean trout) was a highlight with its buttery texture. The **Lobster in Coconut Green Curry** was an intriguingly balanced dish, with the creamy coconut and vibrant curry complementing the tender lobster perfectly. The **Namahotate** (dayboat scallop) nigiri, was clean & buttery sweet with a hint of sea salt. And last but not least, the Pork Belly in delicate chili broth, accented with fragrant basil and cilantro, was a savory, herby delight that left us smiling. The attention to detail, from the stunning presentation to the seamless service, made this evening truly memorable. Uchi Austin is more than a restaurant—it’s a celebration of culinary creativity and hospitality. Thank you, Emma and team, for an extraordinary experience that will have us dreaming of on our next visit from the #tampabay! #uchiaustin #ThirdHome #bridgetbrelandrealtor #austinfoodies

We love their omakase/tasting menu. It’s pricey but well worth the indulgence. Has a fantastic selection of flavors and good portion sizes :)

I haven’t been to Uchi in quite some time. The sushi was just as I remembered. Truly can’t get any better. We made a mistake this time and ordered the tasting menu (it’s always so tempting because of the price) and it had too many cooked dishes for our liking. And yes, the server tried to warn us so nobody’s fault but our own. We ordered a few more sushi bites to compensate and we were happy with the outcome ☺️Next time, I won’t wait so long to revisit.

Wow, wow, wow! Went here on a recommendation from the front desk at the Omni, and let me tell you that this place did not disappoint. We had the Signature Tasting from the happy hour menu. The menu says it's only for two, but they can adjust it to odd numbers! Our server Yumi was very professional and provided the utmost hospitality. I am a certified sushi snob, and this place is definitely worth going out of your way to try if you're in the Austin area.

The food was delicious, I enjoyed every bite. Our server was also very friendly and attentive. The menu is vast and there are many options but we went with the tasting. The restaurant is also very nice inside but it can get pretty loud. I highly recommend this place!

This is one of my favorite sushi spots in the country. I took my cousin who just moved here, and she even said it was one of the best sushi spots she’s been to! The food is amazing and the fish is so fresh. The staff is so kind and knowledgeable! If you go, ask for Joe as a server. We usually just ask our server what they like and he listened to our tastes and things we didn’t like and delivered a spot on perfect meal for us. From appetizers to sushi to the incredible desert, Joe nailed it and knew exactly what we would like. Even the other staff who weren’t out waiters cleared table constantly and made recommendations. Justus, was also very helpful and was so on point. GET THE NEW BANANA CHOCOLATE CAKE! It’s to die for! So is the coconut tapioca desert! If you like amazing food, even better service, and an amazing atmosphere, goto UCHI!

I've eaten here many times. I've been to many different sushi restaurants. This place and the quality of flavors are amazing. Everything is really great. This is where you go to in Austin for Great sushi. It's so close to downtown, so I wish they had a better view of the city. The food is the star here.

Uchi was a fantastic place to visit as a tourist. The food and service was excellent and I would say it was good value for the price point (about $100 a head for a a group of 5, including a round of drinks). I would recommend booking as it does get busy.

Our fourth time here–where to begin? Uchi Austin is the most wonderful dining experience my partner and I have ever experienced. Every time. Valet parking makes arriving in your personal vehicle a breeze. A welcoming, modern, upscale–yet not intimidating–atmosphere stands out immediately when you walk through the front door. The staff are the piece of this establishment that shine throughout the entire experience. From the host stand to the wait staff, sushi chefs, and everyone else are kind, caring, thoughtful and exceptionally good at their jobs. We tend to prefer the sushi bar–however, we sat outside on the patio this time. Omar waited on us, and he is incredible. From start to finish, he was fun to chat with, fantastic with his timing, and all around one of the best servers we’ve had the pleasure of dining with in Austin. If you’re looking for the full experience, we recommend the chef’s tasting. There isn’t a dish on the menu that misses–everything is to die for. We’ve done the tasting every time, and we always find new and creative dishes that keep us coming back. This time, Omar asked what we enjoy the most before we started; toward the end of the meal, he provided two dishes that hit every mark we mentioned at the beginning and went above and beyond–uni on one side and butter poached snow crab topped with caviar. Absolutely amazing. If you’re looking for a unique dining experience with a one-of-a-kind staff and a menu that will never disappoint, I highly recommend visiting Uchi.

I had such a great experience dining here. Our server was attentive, friendly, and made sure everything was perfect from start to finish. They were knowledgeable about the menu, quick with refills, and checked in at just the right times. You can tell they genuinely care about providing excellent service. It really made the whole meal even better. Highly recommend!

By far the best dining experience, we’ve had in a very long time. Wild place was packed, the service is still on point and the menu was quite an adventure. Definitely great value for money for what it is the freshest seafood we have had and some great options of seafood street from a famous Japanese food market. If we lived in Austin, this would definitely be a favorite date, night spot, or a place to celebrate with friends.

Holiday dinner with my daughter. She loves Uchi. I’m also a fan. Service was solid. Ambiance was great. Food was amazing. We arrived during happy hour. The selection of drinks and food was generous and very tasty. We chose some main menu items too like the hot rock wagyu. Overall another stellar experience at Uchi. Very consistent as always. Thanks Uchi!

Uchi absolutely lives up to its reputation. The food quality and creativity are outstanding — every dish feels thoughtfully crafted with fresh ingredients and bold, well-balanced flavors. The sushi and Japanese-inspired plates are both innovative and beautifully executed. The atmosphere is upscale yet comfortable, and the service complements the experience perfectly. It’s easy to see why Uchi is considered one of Austin’s top restaurants. A must-visit for anyone who appreciates creative, high-quality food.

This food was great, our favorites were the cold plates full of amazing textures and flavors. Desert is not to be skipped here so leave some room. I love trying new places when I come to Austin and this is not too be missed and also the sister restaurant up the road which fusses bbq and Asian is unreal I visit there last year.

Had an incredible first experience at Uchi for happy hour! Grabbed a reservation on the patio. Zoe was phenomenal, she guided me through the menu with expert recommendations and made the meal seamless. The standout of the night was the Tom Ka Salmon (I got a 2nd for dessert), but the absolute 'best single bite' award goes to the 72-hour Wagyu. If you're looking for amazing sushi and top-tier service, this is it. Can’t wait to come back!

My wife and I had an absolutely phenomenal experience at Uchi Austin. From start to finish, this was hands down our favorite omakase experience outside of Japan. My wife opted for the vegetarian omakase, and we were both blown away by the creativity and execution. Vegetarian tasting menus can sometimes feel like an afterthought, but not here. Every course was thoughtful, beautifully presented, and packed with flavor. She confidently called it the best vegetarian set menu she has ever had. I went with the Somakase and added a couple supplemental dishes, including the A5 Wagyu Hot Stone. In total I had about 15 dishes, and every single one delivered. The fish quality was phenomenal, incredibly fresh with precise, clean flavors that you would expect from top-tier sushi counters. And the Wagyu was outstanding, especially impressive given we are in the middle of Texas. The beverage program also deserves serious credit. My wife had a couple martinis that she loved, and I enjoyed three different glasses of wine. The selections were excellent and paired beautifully with the progression of dishes. Service was truly next level. The team operates like a well-honed machine: polished, attentive, and perfectly paced without ever feeling rushed. You can tell there is real pride in the craft here. Even the logistics were smooth. Making the reservation through Resy was quick and painless, which set the tone for the evening. Overall, an exceptional dining experience that we will absolutely be thinking about for a long time. If you are considering omakase in Austin, this place is a must.

It’s hard to believe anyone has negative things to say about this place. From the moment you walk into Uchi, you’re warmly greeted by the hosts and immediately taken in by the beautiful atmosphere. The ambiance is perfect for any occasion, and if you’re looking for phenomenal sushi paired with impeccable service, buckle up. David, our server (an OG with over six years at Uchi), took incredible care of my friend and I. His recommendations and overall demeanor were spot on, he truly made the experience feel special! We were spoiled in the best way. Lots of the staff here are attentive, eclectic and super rad. They always make me feel like a regular (and I’m far from) when I come in. Uchi consistently outdoes itself with the quality of its ingredients too. I mean, come on they’re flying in Tasmanian trout from Australia… and we’re in Texas!? That level of commitment says everything. Some of these dishes brought tears to my eyes. Thank again yall for outdoing it time after time.

This place is cool. Almost too cool. You walk in and for a moment wonder if you belong. But then the staff is beyond friendly. Everyone is so warm and welcoming and attentive. The food is incredible. Every bite unique and thoughtful. Excellent wine menu, ask the server about them…ours knew the flavor profiles off the top of her head. We felt so well taken care of and perfectly satisfied. Can’t wait to go back and try everything else. Parking is tough!

I celebrated my birthday at Uchi Austin and had an amazing experience. Every sashimi we tried was outstanding, especially the gyutoro, zuwai gani, and the hama chili with orange ponzu. The Zero Sen roll was another highlight. Our server recommended a sake that paired perfectly with everything, and the coconut tapioca dessert was a unique and beautifully balanced finish. Great service, great atmosphere, and exceptional food. I’ll definitely be back.

Most amazing restaurant ever. We've been coming for years. Started when Tyson Cole came in frequently and Paul Qui was here. We would drive from Clear Lake City just to eat here. Then an Uchi was opened in Houston so went there but would still always come to the original when in town. Having moved from Houston, it had been 1.5 years since having Uchi. So glad to go again. We enjoyed numerous tastings and some full orders. I didn't bother with pics just savored each bite. The service is outstanding. Our server was David and he was very attentive and did an excellent job of meeting our every need. Our sushi bar server was Jeremy and he was also so helpful and attentive. We sat a the bar for a very short time and the female bartender was kind and allowed us a taste of sake. This entire experience felt so personalized. They know how to make each guest feel like most important person there.

We chose the omakase-style tasting menu and a few à la carte, and every single dish was truly delicious—there wasn’t one course we didn’t enjoy. The quality of the food was exceptional and clearly reflects a high level of culinary skill. The only critique I would offer is the pacing of the experience. At times, the courses felt rushed. On a few occasions, additional dishes were plated before we had finished the previous course, or food arrived and sat briefly, affecting the intended temperature. Where we were sitting in the middle of the dining room, the servers would rush by adding to the “rush” feel. I think everyone needs to slow down à but and just enjoy. Given the level of craftsmanship involved, a slower, more intentional pace would allow each dish to be appreciated fully. The servers were attentive and professional, though it was evident they were very busy. Menu descriptions were delivered quite quickly, which added to the overall feeling of being rushed. Slowing down slightly—both in service and explanation—would elevate the experience even further. Overall, the food itself was outstanding, and with a more relaxed, deliberate flow, this restaurant could offer an even more memorable and immersive dining experience.

Food is really good, fish is great and sushi rice is a bit mushy and on the sweet side, the combination of taste are very creative but sometimes too busy on the palate. One of a few places where you can find fresh Santa Barbara uni and striped jack and fresh scallops! Service was not that great, we were asking to change our table twice and they didn’t care, came in for 8:30 reservation but didn’t get to eat until 9:30 or more and then left like more than 11pm because it’s so slow.

The food is amazing. We were celebrating our eighth year anniversary.I put in a reservation and made a note of it. Went recently on a Friday evening and it was packed! Food was definitely great quality, our favorite was the hama chili, which was a little different than our own local sushi place; they made the hama chili with orange instead of apple, which was a nice surprise, the flavors worked wonderful together. I can't remember all of the different toyosu that we tried, I believe the amberjack and black bream were a couple of our favorites. As for the downside - I generally really like bluefin tuna, but not a fan of onions, so the onions it came with was a bit overpowering for me; another downer was the scallop nigiri, it was way too fishy for me, but some might enjoy the taste. We sat at the sushi bar, was very loud and almost couldn't hear what our server was explaining to us, but overall good experience and fish quality was excellent. Would recommend you try it at least once.

Sushi is overrated but overall the presentation and the taste of the other dishes were very good. The service was almost too good with the staff constantly coming by to clean your plates entry few minutes. The dessert was the best part of the meal.

Great Experience overall! Always go with Omakase if it’s you first time. The place looks good but also not super fancy (but it kinda part of its identity). The only thing I didn’t like was it was very noisy and crowded, I barely was able to hear our servers describe our dishes, and they were rushing through multiple tables at once… however it was a great experience nonetheless! Expect to pay ~$500 for 2x Omakase (tip included).

I never be to this place before but I heard it was a Michelin star restaurant. I feel that if a restaurant is a Michelin star then it is going to be expensive. I was ready with the understanding of it costing more than I would usually pay. As for the atmosphere it had a dark theme to it with low light. It was not easy to read the menu being darkish. When got there at 4pm with a reservation and I that's when they open for dinner. At first it was not busy but after an hour it got nuts. It was way too noisy so for me it ruined the mood. As for the food it was very good. I got all the happy hour rolls and there were only two I was not impressed with. I do not remember what they were called but it was not a big deal. My wife went a bit crazy by getting alcoholic drinks but I did not mind because we do not eat out a lot. Our bill came up to $189.00 which we would never spend on one sitting but this time it was ok. All in a very good experience and it was a delight to try.

I had visited Uchi years back and really enjoyed my experience. This time we were very much disappointed with the service. It was slow (which is okay) but nothing was coming out in the order and when the dish got to the table, there were mix-ups. We were reminding our waiter about the backlog and started keeping a tab on the food we ordered. Food is really good but it’s not like we don’t have other good Sushi options in Austin now, including your sister establishments (we were at Uchiko recently and we liked the food and service). Valet was prompt and good. We hope it was just an odd crowded day with limited staff because when we spend close to $200 per person on a dinner, we expect much better service.

P
Palida Suwanpromma

We had high expectations for this place due to the popularity but we were a bit disappointed. The food was good, but nothing too special that wowed us and I feel like it's not really worth the high prices even with happy hour promo. There are other places in Austin that are better value for money for similar or better sushi. The wagyu skewers were dry and overcooked. The highlights for us were actually the desserts, which were all super delicious. The service and atmosphere is top notch though. I recommend this place for a special occasion if you are looking for a decent sushi place with nice atmosphere, and don't mind spending $$$. (Note: we're a group of Asians & Japanese who are really familiar with good sushi. Our preferences might not match the majority of customers and we might be biased towards the traditional style so take this into your consideration)

This was a very cute restaurant overall with great food. The food was so fresh and the fish were so tender. The only thing that we weren’t a fan of was that every nigiri piece you order comes with some type of topping which some were wonderfully paired while others missed the mark. Every type of salmon they had was hands down the best salmon we’ve ever had. Drinks were great as well. We were sat in the aisle in a high top area which was fine- although it was extremely dark so impossible to read anything. Overall, a great restaurant with great food and good prices for what you get!

We were settling into conversing with our waitperson regarding likes/dislikes when a party with two small children were seated right next to us. I have nothing against children, but when I am spending $$$ for a meal, the last thing I want is to feel like I am at a McDonalds. I would also think that if you are spending $$$ for a meal, you could afford to hire a sitter for the evening We ended up switching tables and had a different server so we started over with likes/dislikes. We had the chef's tasting menu. The service was attentive, but the restaraunt seemed dated and the food was uninspired. We have dined at Uchiko (the offshoot of Uchi) so we were a bit disappointed with the meal we were served. We will be going back to Uchiko in the future.

Food and service were excellent. But I had expected a more intimate experience, especially since we paid over $500 for the two of us. I ordered from Uchi through DoorDash, and the experience was very disappointing. I placed my order at 9:28 PM, and the food did not arrive until 11:01 PM, more than an hour and a half later. DoorDash kept sending drivers to the restaurant who would then have their time wasted as they waited for the restaurant to complete the order. I tried calling the restaurant directly, but nobody picked up. The order was finally completed and passed on to DoorDash less than 15 minutes before the restaurant closed. The food was good, not great, and I was not satisfied with the major delay and lack of customer assistance on the business' end. Additionally, portion sizes and food security were disappointing. Items were not sealed and lacking in quantity. As I said though, the main inconvenience was the hour delay (on top of the quoted 30 min time) as well as the lack of customer assistance. DoorDash went the extra step as to provide a voucher, even though they did nothing wrong. Uchi wasted my time and the time of the DoorDash drivers who had to drive there, wait, and eventually leave when it was clear that the order would take much longer than expected.

The floor manager was incredibly rude. She could have told me how long we were expected to wait or that we were not going to be served. Instead, she had us waiting over an hour. I checked back twice after the hour. Everyone else around me was being seated, including new guests. I was told no to sitting at the sushi bar even though there were no reserved signs and people came and went. I have been to this establishment a few times and this floor manager always makes the experience frustrating. She laughed at my frustration and talked down to me. I will never give this establishment the chance to waste my time or be treated poorly again. The food is ok, I've had better and fresher. The service is terrible.

I bought a gift card for Uchi because it used to be a place I truly loved—a place I looked forward to visiting again once life calmed down. But right after I purchased it, my world shifted. I went through serious health issues that took me almost two years to overcome. Getting back to a point where I felt like myself again was a long, painful process, and finally being able to return to a restaurant that once felt special to me was something I genuinely looked forward to. When I called to use my gift card, I was told it had “expired.” Hearing that felt like a punch in the gut. I wasn’t ignoring it—I was fighting to get my health back. The idea that money I paid for could simply vanish because I got sick is unbelievably disappointing. I even emailed management, hoping someone would hear me out. No one ever responded. Not even a short acknowledgment. After decades of living in Austin and being a loyal customer since Uchi first opened, that silence hurt more than anything. It became painfully clear that they don’t actually value the people who support them. I will never go back. There are many incredible sushi restaurants in Austin that treat their customers with basic respect and decency. Uchi should be ashamed that they couldn’t show even a small amount of compassion or honor a gift card from someone who has supported them for years.

So disappointed. I’ve been to Uchiko before and had a phenomenal experience, which made this visit especially frustrating. I called ahead to make a reservation and specifically asked whether it would be too cold to sit on the patio. I was told there were heaters and blankets, so we felt comfortable proceeding. When we arrived, one of the heaters at our table was broken. We had to ask several times for assistance, and only after the fourth request did they finally replace it. We also had to ask about blankets, to which our server responded, “they’re inside.” I replied, “could we please have some?” The interaction felt passive and dismissive, especially given the cold conditions. The food experience was inconsistent. We ordered two chicken karaage dishes, one arrived cold and soggy, while the second was hot and what I would expect from a top-tier fine dining restaurant. We also ordered a roll that was completely forgotten and brought out at the very end of the meal. There was no apology, no confirmation that we still wanted it, and it was not comped. To make matters worse, we ordered two desserts, one of which was meant to celebrate my birthday (which the restaurant was aware of). There was no candle, no acknowledgment, and the dessert was not gifted. Instead, they brought out a third dessert that we neither wanted nor cared for. Overall, the service lacked attentiveness and accountability, and the experience fell far short of what Uchi is known for.

I went to Uchi on Monday, March 2, and both my sister and I got violent food poisoning and were vomiting afterwards and very sick. I called the manager to let them know and they really couldn't care less - said they would talk to the chef but didn't even ask what we ate....clearly just lip service. No offer to make it right or anything. I have been here multiple times before and enjoyed it, however, after this experience and lack of accountability or investigation it is clear they do not care about their customers. I will be taking my business elsewhere going forward.

Uchi’s food is undeniably exceptional each dish is artfully plated, featuring top-tier fish and vibrant flavors that usually warrant a rave review. But on this evening, nothing could outweigh the emotional weight I was carrying. I was mourning the loss of a dear friend, and I needed warmth, sensitivity, and humanity. Unfortunately, our server, Jennifer, made the night feel colder. From the moment we sat down, her tone was dismissive and condescending. Simple questions were met with irritation, and I felt rushed and unseen. Instead of being a comfort or at least neutral Uchi's service added to the sting of grief during a time when compassion mattered most. The food did its part, but service shouldn’t be an afterthought, especially in moments of emotional fragility. Uchi needs both excellence in cuisine and care in service to truly meet its reputation and right now, it falls short.

Very disappointing experience at Uchi. The fried mushroom rice was unbearably salty and sour, and the bluefin tuna didn’t taste fresh. Overall, the food fell far below expectations.
