Sushi is great! I love their hot food too. Chicken Katsu entree comes with so much food I get two meals out of it (miso soup, salad, white rice and chicken katsu on top of vegetables). Great service here too. Awesome place with a warm atmosphere and next to a nice little park if you want to take a stroll afterwards.

California Sushi is a great spot to grab some lunch with friends and family or even have a romantic dinner. This visit I had lunch with my buddy. We decided to go with the Bonita roll, spicy tuna, crunch, and the Indy. California Sushi does some amazing rolls with lemon slices. The Indy is one of them. When I say the flavor of this roll was an explosion in your mouth I'm not exaggerating. It was delicious 😋 Staff is super attentive and nice. All of the plates going by looked great and smelled so good. They have a great selection of rolls, hot plates, appetizers and even some beers and drinks. Outside patio is available if you want to snack and people watch. Definitely a must try when visiting Third Avenue.

I dont usually like sushi but they have a veggie roll and you could substitute the seaweed for a soy wrap instead and its flavorless. I never thought I would be eating sushi, one step at a time and this was actually really good and fresh

They offer some lunch specials but not much towards diner time. Prices are what you would expect of a sushi restaurant in San Diego. Overall I keep coming back for the friendly service and tasty rolls. For the owner, I think the establishment could be more modernized; including more happy hours of sushi; and include an overall theme. The establishment feels very bought not taken over. I understand sushi isn’t cheap but maybe include some more sushi deals. Lastly, it’s fairly obvious this place was simply bought and lacks a true “theme.” The name California sushi doesn’t really inspire a even California vibe. I’d say invest more into the establishment. Other than that fantastic joint!

Great food and very great chefs the staff is quite friendly and to be fair there are some stuff they could improve however it does have an excellent flavor and courtesy when attending the costumer it is an amazing place full of working people that know how to make sushi.

Good sushi in the heart of Chula Vista.

Really love this place. Have been a loyal customer but recently, we've had a few issues with the service. This is the second time rolls came with no Wasabi or Ginger. Sushi is a dish that should always include these items.

Ordered take out through grub hub (I picked up at restaurant), did not realize it would be a 27% increase in cost. When you google the restaurant it gives an option to order online through seamless (grub hub), so I did. Example, a Lemon Roll on the website is $17.95, through grub hub it was $22.95. I called the restaurant the next day to express my concern regarding the difference in pricing from their menu vs grub hub and was told yeah it’s much more to go through grub hub and calling the restaurant will get you regular menu pricing. The food was great as usual, however my goal here is to communicate this info to the public. Hopefully this is taken as an opportunity to save a little money when ordering at your favorite restaurant and not a shot on the restaurant itself. The food was ready on time and was fantastic as usual. Please continue to eat here, just call the restaurant directly to order your food!

Service was blindingly fast. I had the shrimp tempura which was good. Miso soup if that's what it was was suspicious. Food is good not great but good. If you're around there and in a hurry this is your place. Prices are moderate maybe a little bit more than I would want to spend for that kind of place but okay.

Staff are super nice, both in person and over the phone. Got a california roll. It came out quick and was a great price considering the size. Wasabi had a strange texture and it seems like it may be lower quality (though I'm sure it's just green horseradish anyway). I'll definitely come back to try some other rolls in the future.

This is my daughter's favorite restaurant to eat at. She loves their lunch special teriyaki chicken. For $8.95 it's a great value and they have 4 other options. You get miso soup, 4 pieces of a Cali or spicy tuna roll, salad, steamed rice and your entree choice. Our only negative criticism is the salad. Eaten here numerous times and the salad is not that great. The dressing is gross and greens usually appear to be less than crisp. But everything else is top notch. And they don't charge extra for you to carry out your miso soup as with other Asian restaurants and sushi spots. THEIR SUSHI IS BOMB and they have a large selection as well.

Honestly, you should go to try this roll, they NAILED the taste, my brain did not know it was eating sushi because it tasted like a taco but the best of both worlds!! We also got salmon nigiri to test out their fish and rice, and the fish was nice and fresh but their rice wasn't seasoned enough, rice was a bit hard. Overall will come back, to try a few rolls!

Food was not hot, do not recommend eating outside due to flies and the salad dressing was horrible! Don't they taste before using it on people's salad? The sesame chicken was the worst I ever had...it fell apart! Came off the chicken. I have never seen this. Maybe the sushi for pickup is better, dunno. Years back had the sushi and was good.

Came here after the day of the child event. The place only had 1 table taken when we arrived. The Lemon role is so good! The portion of edamae was good. Service was slow. Waited over 10 min for 2 roles after everyone else at our table was served. As more people came in the slower our service was. To top it off when we were paying the server added a 20% service charge that we were not told about prior. I disputed it, and the manager did remove it. Good food, but will not be going back. I don't appreciate hidden fees and attitude from the server.

Service was good, but food was so mediocre. The chicken was dry and tasted old. The sushi was warm and not fresh. Eat anywhere else.

Used to be a better place to eat before. Had three rolls and only one was fresh. The other ones tasted old. Service is still good. But unfortunately the food is not.

Waiter took our order and we waited an hour for our food to get served and it turned out the order was never placed. Waiters kept passing by including an instant in which one of the waiters asked the side tables if they needed everything and ours was skipped, maybe because we didn’t have food served, but either way I kept seeing that they would look over and no one approached us until about the hour. Sadly, I can’t even say it was packed as there was about 4-5 tables with customers. We ended up leaving. They need better attention to customers waiting for a long time. Hopefully this was just a one time occurrence as this place does have good sushi.

Sushi is not as good as it used to be, it is very disappointing. I would only go for one of the servers she was short and always had beautiful lashes. I have not seen her in a while. Will probably not be returning here

The last 3 weeks I have ordered delivery and I don't know if they changed chef or what but they have not put attention to my requests. Very disappointing. I've been eating or ordering delivery since 3 years ago and had no problem, but lately either something is missing, or what I ordered is wrong or the rolls fall apart. And with those prices (high) you expect great taste, service and presentation. Sorry to say it definitely has not been that lately.

I used to like coming here with great service. This was the last time I'm coming due to service and they keep getting more and more stingy. When you order a roll I used to get 10 pieces and now I get 8 with the same price. I was like OK I know economy but now it has become smaller versions of the 8 pieces. The rice with shrimp now has less shrimp and less rice. Seriously you stingy on rice. I've gone to so many other places with better prices for the rolls with great taste. This last time I went they said because the roll has avocado I needed to pay $3 more. Plus with all this there service has gone down. That's the final for me. I try being loyal I can understand certain things but service being crappy upon the rest. I'm out.

This is the second time I visit this place and it will be my last. On both occasions the same thing has happened. We got greeted and promptly seated, Place was not busy and it was clean. person #1 took my order, Person #2 delivered drinks, 20 minutes later we received one of the four rolls we ordered, waited another 10 minutes for the rest of our order. We had to get one of the servers and ask for the rest of the order. After this she came back and said they were working on them and walked away. Food was good but not woth the wait.

The dine in check is deceiving. They serve you the food in takebout style and your eating in patio style facing and smellingvthe exhaust from cars on3rd avenue. I was looking foeard to air conditioned sushi rolls. Good food just better off ordering to go and delivery. You wait just as long and at home is better 😌

Horrible service, not enough sushi options and sushiman left shift after we ordered for an emergency today! We went there after a child graduation and they just told us that not sure what time the sushiman would be back! Unprofessional and very disrespectful!!! Will never go back this awful restaurant again!

I waited 20 minutes and then when I went for the food, I sat there for 15 minutes while four employees would just talk amongst themselves. They told me that it would be out in a second after waiting another 10 minutes I then got up and said is the food ready cause I have to leave and they realize that they never even put my order in due to the hostess, having to go back and wanna the employees glancing over at me and then starting to make the order. I believe that if they had better leadership running the employees this problem could’ve been avoided since the food there is quite enjoyable. Hopefully management sees us so that they can take appropriate actions and create a better service for future customers.
