Good diner style experience with a good traditional breakfast and some with added flair. Great Food and Service. Friendly staff team.
Great place for breakfast. I had the eggs Benedict with beet and sweet potato hash browns. Looked fantastic and tasted great. Service was friendly and prompt. I sat at the bar but there is also table seating inside and cute seating outside. It’s also a bar so you can have a beer with your eggs!!
Cool place to treat your taste buds. Lots to select from. Marisol was truly attentive and adventurous with special requests. Well done
My first breakfast in San Diego and it didn't disappoint! Pancakes were superb as the staff who looked after us! The atmosphere was chilled and nice. Highly recommended if you want to be among locals and enjoy a good chat while having great food and service
This was a phenomenal experience from start to finish. Our server was extremely attentive, knowledgeable and very respectful of our dietary needs. What's more, one of us forgot our phones after we left and she was kind enough to save it for us inside before we came back and retrieved it. I highly recommend this place for breakfast anytime you're visiting San Diego or if you live there.
The perfect spot to relax and enjoy some unique food. The coffee is excellent. Order the hash browns! My kids loved the blue berry pancakes! They taste so fresh. The fresh fruit completes any dish.
Recommendation from a trusted friend and I agree! This place is fantastic! Comfortable, hospitable, clean with great service and a sense of community.
Great breakfast spot! Got the farmers omelet. It was wonderful! The breads all taste fresh. My husband got the burrito. It was much larger than anticipated but very good. There isn’t a kids menu but we ordered a side of eggs and a bagel which kept the kiddo happy. Great service!
Great breakfast spot. Friendly hosts and the food was really tasty and well priced for the portion size. Service was somewhat slow as they make everything fresh (which is great!) but this wouldn’t be somewhere you go if you’re in a rush and need a quick bite to eat.
What a Little Italy gem! My chorizo omelet with beet/sweet potato hash was divine! All staff we encountered were so very nice and accommodating. Highly recommend!
Delicious breakfast burrito and coffee. Fun to sit at the counter and people watch!
Wow!! Nice open air restaurant. Best breakfast I have had in a long time. Fresh vegetables cooked to perfection put my omelet over the top. Had the Denver then added tomatoes and spinach to make it pop. Beet and sweet potato hash brown was like a taste explosion! Service was second to none. Extremely courteous and friendly server. He made great recommendations for what the locals like to eat. Oh yeah, whatever brew they use for their ice tea is phenomenal! Try them out if you are in the downtown San Diego/Little Italy area.
This has neighborhood elevated diner/breakfast place written all over it. I enjoyed it very much and I can see making it a regular place. I thought the only drawback really was that it was a bit expensive for this type of place, but it is downtown San Diego so… I had the bagel breakfast sandwich, which next to Pipes was the best one I have ever had. The potatoes, however, were better. I love the open air feel. Everybody was friendly in a good mood. It’s that kind of place.
If you're looking for a no frills location with a great breakfast menu, Harbor Breakfast should make your list of places to try. Service was good and very fast. Definitely try their traditional Eggs Benedict (or one of the three other versions). Also for something really different, but equally tasty, the Beet & Sweet Potatoe Hashbrowns with eggs and choice of meat. My wife loved it! Priced at $15-20 per person it is a perfect place to start the day.
Excellent place for breakfast / brunch . Maria and Carla were super nice to accommodate us even when they were about to close . This is a special place for our son who lives in this area . Everytime we visit our son , we make multiple visits for breakfast here and get treated like special guests . Thanks Maria and Carla . Food is always excellent and the service is also very good . A must visit if you are in San Diego . Keep it up team 👍
Ocean vibes meets old timey diner feel with unique menu items. I’ve been around the breakfast block and I’ve never had sweet potato and beet hash browns let alone fried oysters at breakfast. Sat at the counter, as one should, and had a fine experience. Highly recommend.
The food was excellent as always, they do a great job of having fresh ingredients. I had the sausage omelette with hash browns and toast. The service wasn’t at its best today (I frequent this place often) but I’m still giving it 5 stars because they proactively did a good job at service recovery before I left. So by the time I left out the door everything was all good!
We had a goof experience, I liked my dish more than my husband liked his, but we cleared our plates. Couldn't find parking so we paid 15$ for the parking lot next to the restaurant. We sat at a booth, it was a different experience, and we have no complaints. I'd recommend this place.
Met with a friend on a Wednesday for breakfast. We literally walked in as they opened the doors. Gaggles of regular customers with their newspapers who took their seats and ordered with ease. Service: Impeccable. No notes. Ambiance: The aesthetic reinforced the quaint vibes here. Took a star away because during our meal, I smelled cleaning products more than once. It was distracting for my really DELICIOUS food. The Eats: Balanced, simple and delicious. The bacon is just as good as it looks. High quality meat, for sure. If I’ve ever in town again, I’m happy to have a good breakfast option.
I was staying in a nearby hotel and found this place on Google. It had great reviews and decided to give it a try. I am glad I did because the breakfast I had was wonderful. The staff was super friendly, coffee was freshly brewed, breakfast was fresh, and overall a positive experience. I recommend this place!
The Lobster Benedict is superb. Generous amounts of lobster meat served on crispy sourdough toast with hot fresh poached eggs and hollandaise and a side of the best hah browns ever. Excellent fresh squeezed juice and coffee too. Plus it has a nice vibe. Lots of light on a great downtown street corner with outdoor seating.
We grew weary of our hotel's "free" breakfast and wandered across Harbor Breakfast. It's walk-up service so the earlier you arrive, the better. Both my boys had pumpkin pancakes with a side of eggs and bacon and I went with the chorizo omelette. Coffee was excellent and the apple juice is REAL apple juice! Definitely coming back the next time we're in town.
I found this place because other google reviews said this place was quick and no wait time. This was the same case for me, as I was able to be seated on a Saturday morning with no wait. The server promptly took our order and had water delivered. Didn’t time the food, but it felt like a 30 minute wait. Summary: Good food, service was slow, just from the kitchen.
I had the crab Benedict. Amazing beet & sweet potato hashbrowns! A must try. Great breakfast spot. The staff very friendly. Would recommend!
Absolutely great first experience in San Diego mainly due to the server we had. Amazingly welcoming and nice, gave us pointers about the city. Food was good too, eggs and beet hashbrowns were delish. On a nice day, the sidewalk setting is a great place to relax and enjoy the weather, food, and atmosphere. Would recommend.
We stopped by Harbor for breakfast and the food was soooo good. It was near our hotel. We arrived at about 9am and got sat right the way on Monday morning. Our bartender/server was soooo nice and friendly. His name was Armando. I had bloody Mary and it was soooo good. I love eggs Benedict and this restaurant has sooo many options. I was debating for either salmon, crab, or lobster. Armando recommended salmon Benedict and it was probably the best salmon Benedict I ever had because it was not salty!!!! My boyfriend got French toast with eggs and bacon and the bacon was sooo crispy and the French toast was amazing. I would highly recommended this place. I will definitely go back when I'm in town again!!!!!
It's my second time here and just like the first , it was delicious , I tried the pancakes with the eggs and a fruit cup the first time and it was so good and this time I had the chilaquiles with chorizo and omg it was great, food comes out really quick. The only think to know is this place can get busy and wait time will depend on that. But I would 100% recommend this place
So glad to have this establishment in Little Italy to balance out the trendier-focused restaurants in the area. The food options are plentiful and portioned to be filling. The dishes are classic breakfast food but with a will have a slight twist/embellishment that makes the food uniquely Harbor Breakfast’s; for example, their Smoked Bacon omelette has blue cheese and comes with a side of your choice (I got their beet and sweet potato hash browns) and choice of bread (biscuit with fig jam (no weird grape jelly here)). Service is friendly, home-y, and efficient with no attitude. Looking forward to trying out the rest of the menu!
Fun cozy place for breakfast while I was waiting for my train. The food was simple but well made. The person serving me was nice and kept my coffee filled. The price was a little more than expected for what I got but overall satisfied with my experience.
From the time you enter to the time you leave. The experience was great! Service was great! Food was great! Servers were great! Drinks were great! Ask for Miguel, he was Spectacular! You will enjoy it!
It’s a homey place with awesome food! Between us we ate the whole menu over the course of a week!
Excellent breakfast, we went two days in a row. The sweet potato/beet hash is unique and very good. Loved the omlette Highly recommend. Can be very busy at times but worth the wait.
Great breakfast spot. The biscuits were delicious: light, flaky, and with a nice crisp crust. Tasty eggs and pancakes as well. Would definitely come back.
Friendly staff and great food. Ordered and left in 20 minutes tops. I sat at the the bar, which was a little tight for my shoulders but I also know I am bigger than average. Had their "The Harbor Plate" and left happy.
The French toast was amazing, it's a big plate it should easily be shared between two people. The place is small, if you have a large party, you may need to wait to get seated
Super delicious and tasty meal! The atmosphere was lovely, and the service was great. One of the most amazing breakfast experiences I’ve had in San Diego! Coming from seattle
I discovered this terrific diner on the second day of a short business trip, and went back for the next 4 days. The food was delicious, the portions were very generous, and the staff (Shelly, Lysandra, Marisol, and Carla) were all quick, friendly, and attentive. Highly recommended! My favorite was the Harbor plate. (And if you're really lucky, you may get to see a bit of impromptu singing or dancing as the wait staff go about their business 😃).
In a nutshell; busy place, not an air-conditioned establishment, good food, good service and overall popularity well met. Parking can be tough as it is street parking. It can also be rather busy so you may have to stand in line outside for sometime. The food was good. Food didn't take too long despite how busy they got. There is no air conditioner so it may be tough in the summer. The employees were nice and accommodating. Server was great. Overall, a few difficulties but food was good enough to brush off the other inconveniences.
We read the reviews and decided to give the breakfast a try. We had a short wait to get seated. This place is very busy for breakfast. The waitstaff took care of us and our coffee cups were never empty. The food was way above average, which explains the wait. This is a fun and busy place and we really enjoyed our visit.
Service was pleasant and the food was good. The portions seemed small though. Great location with outside seating.
Decent breakfast. Sam really liked her french toast. One issue we had was the only coffee option was drip. They could step up their game with a real coffee machine.
Wonderful breakfast place. Food was tasty and reasonably priced for the area. We came it at the top of the breakfast surge, so it was very busy, but the employees were still friendly, efficient and seemed genuinely happy to help. I will come here again when visiting San Diego. The $30 breakfast included a full plated breakfast, a side order of protein and a beverage. Plate and coffee would be closer to $20
I came on a fine Sunday morning. It was pretty busy. The staff was friendly and welcoming. I ordered a hot green tea, and the Harbor Plate. (Sorry about the half eaten Plate pictures) Which consisted of scrambled eggs, hash browns, chicken apple sausage and toast. The eggs were scrambled perfectly, however, the rest of the plate was a disappointment. The sausage was very dry, I never had dry sausage in my life! The toast was only toasted on 1 side, and the hashbrowns were cold. I did end up eating the food 1) I was hungry, and 2) $25.86 was the total before the tip. I will definitely come back and give them another try, due to the staff friendliness and welcoming demeanor. I will try something else also. Hopefully the food will be better next time.
We waited over 35 minutes for our food, which felt a bit too long. The portions are really big — definitely something to keep in mind. The staff was fairly friendly and seemed concerned, but it was very crowded, so that might explain the slower service. The burritos were $19–$20 each and super tasty — I’d honestly recommend sharing one between two people, because they’re huge. We also ordered sweet toasts — they were big too, but quite overpriced. In total, we had 2 burritos, 2 portions of sweet toasts, and 2 coffees — and the bill came out to around $100. We’re still not sure how it added up. It was okay for a one-time visit. I understand the portions are generous, but I wouldn’t come back.
My wife and I made a stop here for breakfast on our weekend trip to San Diego. The service is good, nice location, and cozy diner feel. The coffee was good. Unfortunately the food is very average at best. The pancakes were very dry and mostly flavorless. My wife’s frittata was “OK” - but nothing special. Prices are California typical ($60 for breakfast for two).
I had high hopes after seeing reviews but I was extremely disappointed with the quality of the food I received. I rarely send food back to the kitchen, and I even tried to eat the burnt, blackened muffin they served my Benedict on, but it was terrible. I'm not sure why anyone would think that would taste good enough to serve. The server was kind about my request for a new plate. When I received that, the eggs were overcooked. I just finished the food & left. Least favorite food experience during my trip.
Comfort breakfast food! Casual breakfast spot with a variety of dishes. Everything here food, service, atmosphere is good. It’s a typical local breaky spot you can pop into and find something you’ll enjoy. Spot worth checking out if you’re in the area.
The food is not that great. The staff is super kind friendly. Everything we had lacked flavour, omelette needed salt at least, the seeet potato/beet hashbrown shouldn't be served, so bad. Pancakes were not great. Chilaquiles are really bad too.
Loosing its uniqueness! Been coming here for 20 some years since they opened. Food always been good. BUT the menu keeps shrinking and prices keep going up! They used to have a unique menu with daily in season specials. Now it’s just a small simple menu of the same few things. No home made jellies or any of the items that made this place special! It’s just sad that this place is now like everywhere else!
I used to come to this place all the time with my dad about 10 years ago I recently tried to go to this restaurant again with my husband and was extremely disappointed by how the new management is running the place. This is the second time that we've gone recently and the first time was also lacking in service and in taste however I attributed it to an off day. We went again today and we sat at the corner of the bar right next to where the woman behind the bar was passing out coffees creamers etc. after sitting there 5 minutes we still weren't offered coffee or even water. The next 5 to 10 minutes I tried to make eye contact with the server who was deliberately avoiding looking at me. An entire 20 minutes past eventually and we just walked out after not interacting with a single person since initially being sat down
After waiting for this restaurant to re-open for months, hoping for the same venue and menu to return.....total disappointment! Food was a disappointment, cleanliness was a disappointment and selection and portions were a disappointment. Oddest part of the re-opening, is that there were no lines on a Sunday morning! Unheard of in the past. Tells me everything. Will not be returning. Lots of other wonderful breakfasts in the area.
Well, it was an experience! Breakfast burrito didn’t have much flavor. Salt? Seasoning?? It comes with avocado but there was hardly any in there. Maybe a knife’s worth of avocado. Husbands biscuits and gravy were interesting. The gravy seemed quite watery, with the sausage kind of floating on top. Biscuits were hard on the outside and doughy on the inside. Also, not the restaurants fault, but there’s a city trash can right outside where customers sit, including us. During our meal, three homeless people opened up the trash bin, rummaged through it, grabbed some left over food and ate it right in front of us. Sitting outside also led itself to smell like a bit of urine, also not the restaurants fault, but something to be mindful of if you dine here. Maybe opt to sit inside rather than outside. With how busy they were, we were promptly sat and our waitress was very nice. Prices were average for the area. We did wait a little bit for our food, but no biggie. Overall, mediocre visit. We won’t be back, but encourage others to make their own judgments!
Very sweet and soggy hash browns, when I said this to the waiter instead of apology or taking it off the bill she said “i like it”. Dirty cutlery and sticky seats. Also, we ordered 2 extra things with our breakfast and they never came out. I genuinely do NOT get this obsession with oily and sweet food around here- disgusting If you are looking for a fresh and healthy breakfast this is not the place.
