Preguntas frecuentes sobre Mayas
Opiniones de Mayas New Orleans
In the three times I’ve been to Maya’s my experience has gradually improved. The restaurant has struggled with hiring and managerial changes but the kitchen staff has been steadfast and consistently produces excellent, beautiful, tasty food. This time we started with peach and cilantro margaritas, which were tasty and came in large portions. We ordered guacamole that was carefully plated and also came in a heaping portion. The entrees were HUGE (and very tasty). Each entree was a fairly unique representation of the restaurant’s heritage. Mayas’ culinary excellence makes it stand out on this side of magazine street, but I think the serving staff and bar management could still see some improvement through time and training.
We went for lunch. The food is delicious and authentic, in a relaxed atmosphere. Started with an empanada, sized to share (we had one filled with a traditional chicken picadillo), and the palomas were generous. We had the cubano-- smoky and meaty, with crisp fries we couldn't stop eating-- and a poblano relleno with steak, which was flavorful and hearty. Will try the flan next time because we were too full.
Maya’s is a wonderful restaurant to go for a persona date or large celebration. They keep the music to a level that you don’t have to yell over one another and have extremely fast service with beautifully presented plates. The Mahi fish is delicious, as are the empanadas. There are dishes both large and small that are vegetarian friendly. We went there for my own graduation dinner with two vegetarians. At the end we ordered flaming plantains. An absolutely wonderful experience!
THIS IS THE DEFINITION OF A 5 STAR EXPERIENCE. The owner/chef/bartender is a Superman - somehow made the best mojitos we’ve ever tasted while simultaneously cooking some of the most tasty food we’ve ever had. Amazing cocktails, food, and service! They even had an espresso martini waiting for us on the way out.
People may disagree but...... Hispanic Food is by far the best food EVER!!!!! Well if you think like me you have to come Here!!!! Service is Great and Food is Outstanding!!!!! My wife and I tried it for the first time and we both found our favorite restaurant! Try it and you'll thank me later!!!!
Outstanding services, excellent menu choices, and a delightful ambiance. We enjoyed the egg rolls, crab and shrimp guacamole, and enchiladas. Generous portions at reasonable prices, perfect for sharing. The shrimp were cooked to perfection, and the refreshing cocktails added to the experience. Overall, a fantastic dining experience, and we look forward to returning for more.
I wanted some real authentic food and experience. And I wasn't disappointed at all. From first walking in the door. Everyone was inviting and so nice. The menu is easy to understand and the portion size is incredible. So worth taking the time to find and stop by. You will not be disappointed. A must visit.
So good!! Soup and salad that came with some entrées were divine. ($14 entree comes with either soup or salad!) Lots of specialty cocktails. Excellent service. Plantain appetizers were wonderful. Child loved their chicken & cheese quesadilla, and the bacon wrapped plantains. Pork dish was great. Also enjoyed the yellow curry rice with chicken. Decor is interesting, sparse Mayan art on walls, tables covered with black and white tablecloths, nice hefty silverware, cloth napkins, cool water decanters and glass vessels. Several comfortable booths are along one wall, with nice tables and chairs (mostly 4-tops) spread out with plenty of space. You could dress up for a date here and have the fine dining experience, or come as you are from shopping on Magazine Street with your 7-yr old and have a lovely time too. Highly recommend!
Cozy place to enjoy the most testiest food! We were the for Valentine’s Day and they had an special menu: starter, main plate, dessert and sparkly wine for $55 per person. Food was delicious, we only took pictures of the main plates. We will come back here for sure to try more of their food. Don’t forget to make your reservation!
Instead of cooking Christmas dinner, we decided to dine out. I did a quick search to see who was accepting reservations on Christmas day (that wasn't attached to some big hotel charging $100 a plate), and saw that Mayas was going to be open. This place has been on my list of places for a while now, and I figured now was a good time to go. This restaurant smelled amazing soon as we opened the door, the decor is lovely, I'm really into to the art they have displayed. The Christmas decor was really pretty, too. We were enthusiastically greeted, checked for our Vax card, and seated. The server we had was very knowledgeable, really nice, and professional. Now, the food.... everything we had, from the complimentary chips and salsa to the entrées was delicious. Their salsa isn't a traditional tomato salsa, it's a sweet and spicy mango salsa that has a similar flavor profile to the dipping sauce often served with pot stickers in Asian restaurants. It's so good, they really should bottle it up and sell it. We ordered the black bean and chorizo empanadas, let me tell you these are the best empanadas I've had in years. I used to buy my empanadas from a sweet El Salvadoran lady daily on my way to culinary school years ago, and aside from hers the ones at Mayas are the best. I had the Jamaican curried shrimp, and my daughter ordered the grilled chicken with black beans and rice with mango salsa, both meals were delicious. The servings were large, I ate all of my shrimp but couldn't finish the rice and veggies. My daughter took her meal home as leftovers she could have for lunch the next day. I don't normally condone texting at the table during meal time, but I made an exception during this meal, because the food was so good I was texting my best friend about it and sending her pictures. We'll definitely be back. I highly recommend this restaurant. Make reservations, wear your mask, and bring your vaccine card. They are following city guidelines.
this is the best latinx restaurant I've ever been too. The atmosphere is amazing, and the people are even better. Our waiter is name Joshua and we talked for over 30 minutes about his story and the restaurant. He was so kind and friendly. Our food was amazing too. I got the beef and chicken emanadas, and they were incredible. tasted great and filled me up, along with complimentary tortilla chips and salsa. Speaking of, the salsa is a custom mix of a sweet Chilli base with mango and a multitude of spices. It was delicious.
I love Maya’s! I’ve been coming year for years and the staff has always been warm and welcoming. Mayas is a blend of Latin style cuisines that has really great food and drink offerings. Their brunch is one of the most underrated in the city of New Orleans. The brunch menu is amazing and you can usually get a table pretty easily.
Stopped here on a rainy late afternoon for a drink and an appetizer. Music was lovely, not too loud. Place was alive, but not yet crowded. Welcoming service. Kid-friendly. Great location. Food turned out to be deliciously excellent. We will come back for more. We came back for more and enjoyed the seafood paella, which was large enough for four. The service was good.
I have tried quite a few Hispanic-food inspired restaurant, but I can say that this one exceeds by far your expectations. The quality of food is awesome. They have a few tables outside where you can sit if you don't want to eat inside. If coming to New Orleans you have to come to the Garden District to try this place. One of the best Cuban and Caribbean food I have got in New Orleans. The servers are very professional and provide great service. I would definitely recommend this place.
This is best Latin American, fusion restaurant in the city! The food was delicious! The restaurant is decorated so beautifully, the staff was super friendly and accommodating. The drinks we yummy! Literally can’t say anything bad about this place. Definitely go try it! I can’t wait to go back. We order so much food to try everything! Also, who thought to fry Elotes?!?! Literally the best invention lol. Make a reservation and GO!
This place is definitely an underrated spot. We found this place by accident. At first glance, the menu doesn't really grab you if you're looking for local traditional New Orleans cuisine but the food was unbelievably fantastic. The staff is friendly and the food came out really quick. The seafood guacamole is a must have but you can't go wrong with any menu item.
Mayas appears to be in a category of its own... 'a melting pot of dishes and flavors from Spain, Portugal, South America, Central America, and Mexico, as well as Cuba and other Caribbean islands.' I found the menu quite intriguing and unique. If you've spent more than a couple weeks in NOLA, you start looking for alternatives to the standard Creole faire (wonderful as it may be, becomes redundant and not always that remarkable). I have not been impressed with the Latin faire I've had in NOLA so far, but Mayas is definitely exceptional. The menu is extensive...the most creative and varied Latin and Caribbean menu I've seen. The presentation was outstanding and artistic. For a cocktail, I had the 'Phenomenal Margarita, a nice presentation in a large goblet. For an app, the Ceviche Dorado, nicely presented. Then 2 of the Cuban Egg Rolls (like a Cuban sandwich, but in an egg roll wrapper. I could have stopped there, but was anxious to try the Paella, figuring it would also make for good breakfast leftovers. Very good, not like a Spanish Paella, but I like this yellow rice style at least as well although I would have preferred more saffron. The chef is really experienced here at Mayas. The food comes out fast, but looks like they took their time to make the dish beautiful. I highly recommend Mayas, the best Latin food I've found in NOLA so far.
If I could make this 6 stars, I would. Let me start with the Mojitos. Some of the best I've ever tasted. The prices are very reasonable and the sugar cane stick made it authentic. The food was outstanding. Went for breakfast and got what you see pictured. I just don't feel like writing it all out but they will know what you want. This is a must visit spot on Magazine. Update 20 Apr 25 Mojitos are still good with the stick of sugar cane. The curry has great flavor. And the service was outstanding. Update 10 Oct 25 Still good. Mojitos even better.
Mayas didn’t disappointment, let’s begin there. The venue is stunning & the atmosphere was calm. The complementary chips & dip was really good. Appetizer: Seafood Tostones DELICIOUS! Wow. 10/10. Highly recommend. Frozen peach margarita was tasty. Entree; steak churrasco with fried egg & yuca fries. Steak was flavorful, but could’ve been more tender ( even as medium) My friend ordered the eggplant curry, delicious. I will definitely be returning. & lastly, service was lovely as well!
Upscale Latin cuisine that doesn’t disappoint! Familiar dishes with a nice range of offerings. Several vegetarian indicated on the menu. I ordered the vegetarian quesadilla and sweet plantains. Both were as good as I would expect. The specialty margarita was fantastic. My dining mate got the seafood coconut soup that looked like a curry soup. I’m looking forward to returning to try the paella and the flaming dessert. The overall vibe was great and the service is top notch. There was a little mix up with my order but it was fixed quickly and were very nice.
On my last visit I ordered the Ropa Vieja; it was so delicious! I watched as one the owners made drinks, they looked so good it was killing me it to sit down and drink one of those delicious mojitos! The menu must be new because it doesn't match the one online, but don't despair, the food is amazing and I have been well treated each time I have been there. I have been to many Latin restaurants in various parts of Florida and the quality of food here rivals the best in the Sunshine state.
First time eating here and it definitely won't be the last. From the moment my family and I walked into Maya's we felt welcomed and comfortable. The waitress was friendly, attentive, and accommodating. The ceviche was the best I have ever had. All of our appetizers and meals were excellent. Highly recommend this gem on Magazine Street.
So so so so good !!! Never in my life have I been so blown away by a dining experience. EVERYTHING was good. Portions were big, price was right, and service was lovely. Please eat here!! Even if you aren’t a fan of the cuisine I promise you will not regret it. I’m still dreaming about the elote…
Food is fresh. Amazing flavor and prices are reasonable.
We were pleasantly surprised when we ate at this restaurant. The food and service is top notch. We loved it so much that we ate there 2 nights in a row on our 4 night stay in New Orleans. If you're ever in New Orleans, you have to give this place a try. We will definitely be back on our next trip.
I have yet to have something from here I didn’t like. Portions are great and taste exceptional and the prices are just right. The food definitely competes and wins out over some of the other higher priced Latin restaurants in the surrounding area. That’s why we keep coming back.
This remains one of my favorite New Orleans restaurants. Time after time, we come here and have never once been disappointed by the service or food. Sangria was boozy and delicious; appetizers and entrees were timely, unique for the neighborhood, and tasty; service was incredible (they broke out the wheelchair ramp to help us get our stroller out the door today). Did I mention there's never a wait and they're following Covid precautions perfectly? Love this place. Never regret coming back.
Nice place for any occasion, I orden the veggie paella and was good, there are few more dishes to come back for, that for another occasion. Overall, it is a nice place.
Really amazing food. We had the ceviches, the soft shell crab and the curry. Delicious flavors and quality. Portions were copious, plan to bring some home for left overs!
Hands down the best meal I’ve had in awhile. Best food and experience in New Orleans so far as well. Brunch is amazing. We had the guacamole, Carne Asada and huarache. Delicious! Super fresh ingredients, beautiful presentation and service was outstanding. Thank you guys!
Love, love, love this place. Great food, I've never had a bad meal here and the portions are perfect, great atmosphere, great service, great music. A really cool Latin vibe. Enjoyed the Sangria as well but the portions on those have diminished some. Dont let that deter you from visiting, it is a must stop. Check hours before you go, that is the one downfall for me. Over the last 6 months I have been very concerned about the hours of operation when I think to go. They have been closed quite a bit and the voicemail and website info does not help.
Easily overlooked but always memorable experience. The food is amazing! There are almost too many choices but none of them are bad. From bacon wrapped plantains to seafood guacamole, and any of the brisket, steak or shrimp dishes are going to hit the spot. Expect to bring leftovers home. Also be sure to pop in on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday for 2 for 1 caprihinias, Palomas, or sangria drink specials.
We were super pleased with our experience here! The house sangria and margs were only $5 during brunch, and they were both flavorful. We were happy with our dishes, and I was absolutely blown away by the delicious arepas I got. The bread was super flavorful and had a great consistency. The avocado and other ingredients were very fresh and flavorful without being unbearably spicy. The best part is that it was only $7 and an extra $2 for chorizo. We can’t wait to go back with friends and family and will likely become regulars! I can’t wait to try the dish with scallops next time. Everything on the menu looked delicious.
So amazing!!! The mojitos are some of the best I’ve had, and the ceviche is delicious. The atmosphere is so fun and our waitress was the BEST. So helpful and nice. Would 100% recommend this place!
We loved this place so much we came back 2 days in a row. The food is absolutely amazing and prepared in quite the upscale manner, though you wouldn't be able to tell by the prices which were great and very affordable. Every single thing we tasted was amazing but the crowd favorite was the shrimp and crab ceviche. You have to give it a go!! The decor and atmosphere were also great, and the alcoholic drinks were delicious!
Some of the best guacamole I've had! The regular and the seafood guacamole. The tuna tartare is a large helping and delicious and so is the ceviche. Definitely a great menu and restaurant seems to be ran very well. The waitress had a little trouble understanding us (could have been a language issue), but she got everything right in the end. This is one of our favorite restaurants.
Had a gumbo that was delicious, enchiladas were extremely tasty, Cuban egg rolls were amazing!!! A lot of vegetarian friendly options for my family. Overall it was a great experience along with excellent service and food!!!
Wow! Mayas definitely ranks among our top five restaurants in the metro area. This is home cooking at its finest. The food was flavorful, but not heavy. The beef empanadas' crust was flaky and crunch and the inside was moist and fresh, unlike most empanadas that taste frozen. The sauce and small salad were an interesting and satisfying twist. The "a caballo" was an interesting mix of a steak with pomme frites and grilled vegetables with a filipino style escabeche sauce. The "ropa vieja" is comfort food reminiscent of filipino caldereta, but with chicken and a latin flare. The staff was very friendly and you could tell they really enjoyed working there. My only grievance is that they don't serve iced tea. Sweet iced tea would have topped things off.
Absolutely wonderful selection of vegetarian Latino food. Interesting flavors and thoughtful combinations. Great place for vegetarians. I tried the soup and quesadilla. Both were great. Looking forward to visiting again.
Pili is such a nice person, the food was amazing and they treated us so nicely. If I lived in NOLA, I'd be here every week! Y hablan español!
Very nice meal. Great chicken soup or nice salad, and a nice Cuban sandwich. All for $20. I think that was a lunch spacial for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
This place is absolutely fantastic. Drinks are great and the food is incredible. The Churrasco steak flavor profile is off the charts. So many distinct flavors you would think it would be too much, but somehow it all comes together to make what is probably my favorite steak dish in the city. The elote is also amazing, don't skip it!
I made a reservation for a group of 10 and they did a wonderful job accommodating us. They went above and beyond with the service and made us feel so welcome. The food and drinks were amazing as well. Highly recommend!
Looking for a quick meal, I asked opentable what was nearby and I was recommended Mayas. Since we had never been there before we decided to give it a try. The meal was fantastic. We started with a bottle of sangria and ordered two appetizers. The appetizers were huge and delicious! I can only recommend things that we tried, and there are so many wonderful choices, but try the seafood tostones... my god they are good. After the apps we were feeling pretty full and wanted to try one more appetizer. We told the server that we really wanted to try the ropa vieja but didn't think we could eat it. She said that that dish was actually smaller than the appetizers we had so we got it.. Delicious! There are so many more things on the menu that we want to try and we can't wait to go back. The place is small and very nice. Our first table was a bit wobbly, but as soon as a different table opened up they moved us over to that one. The server was very nice and was eager to tell us about all of the menu items. Highly recommend that you check out Mayas as soon as you can!
This place has some of the BEST food I have ever had! I had the Thai & Jamaican Yellow Curry with chicken and my wife got the Enchiladas Verde - you guys, both of our minds are blown! Awesome food & friendly service. Highly recommended by a foodie!
Muy buen servicio de los meseros
Me gusto
Excelente comida y bonito lugar
Gran lugar
Servicio amable y puntual. Una joya que encontramos caminando el area.
This is not your standard Latin restaurant!!! SO TASTY!!! They offer 4 kinds of fresh made guacamole. Delicious salad concoctions. A very crispy soft shell crab appetizer. Empanadas that are not from a freezer and one of the most amazing coconut soups I’ve ever put in my mouth… inexpensive, and freshly made. Chef owned.
Friendly service and amazing food. Waitress had to stop us from ordering too much because we had not imagined the portions were so huge. She was right. The food (calamari & soft-shell crab & paella) was so delicious that we managed to eat everything anyway. A must do in New Orleans!
Fantastico! Incredible drinks, especially my smokey old fashioned - amazing bartender! The service was great with Alejandra. The food was incredible.....each dish was phenomenal. Even the Tortilla chip dip was fabulous! We'll be back!
De lo mejor les sugiero el sifu tostones en realidad cada platillo es exquisito
Me encantó.!! Buena comida y atención.
Limpios,cocina exquisita,lo recomiendo 👌
Recommend? Yes, but only if it's convenient. I got the tostones and the tofu moqueca. The pickled veggies on top of the tostones made it really good. The tofu moqueca was a true surprise. I knew the description said there's lime, but I didn't expect it to have such a strong effect on the dish. I personally didn't enjoy it because I'm used to Vietnamese curry and a Thai red curry. It's not bad perse, but very different to me. The tofu did have a hint of sour as well and I'm going to attribute that to it being in the curry so it soaked the flavor versus the alternative which is it being bad. Overall, it's a great atmosphere and if you get the right item menu it would be a really good time.
Came for a Christmas dinner with a friend because she said it was a good spot. I love the Christmas decor and enjoyed the ambiance. Service was pretty decent. Waitress was attentive and did not have any issues especially since we came an hour before closing. Ordered Mayas curry, enchiladas verde, churrasco steak, empanadas (chicken and the beans and chorizo), and mojitos. The empanadas were not worth the price. Small portion and did not really have that much flavor. I also ordered the steak because I love chimichurri sauce, but I felt like it was lacking flavors too so I would not order that again. It also came with rice and black beans which tasted bland too. The enchiladas was the best! I highly recommend!! The mojitos were good, but I felt like it was mainly ice…you definitely are paying more for presentation than the alcohol. My favorite thing about this place is the vegetarian options. I like how they have a lot of that! I would not mind returning, but it also would not be my first choice.
This place is so good! The menu has so many appetizing options! If you love Latin food, this is the spot. First and foremost, it’s a small eatery with friendly customer service. The food is made hot and fresh to order, so be patient. The food is bursting with flavor. The appetizer was my favorite!! I ordered the seafood tostones. Now my dinner dish was the shrimp curry, which was good but the shrimp were a little over cooked. Their drink options (non alcoholic) were limited as they were out of things. Overall, I would 100% eat at Mayas again. Great owner and employees! Definitely worth a try if you are in the New Orleans Area!
My sister and I had dinner at Maya’s and the atmosphere was cozy, lively, the kind of spot you want to enjoy with friends. The food, though, was a bit hit or miss for us. The guac needed more salt and the chips were just okay. I wouldn’t order the seafood paella again, but the chicken enchiladas were delicious and easily the highlight of the meal. Overall still a nice evening, just not everything landed for us.
The quality is there and the flavors too. It is a lot of food for the price! We took 2 appetizers per person thinking we will be fine but we had to boxed most of the food. So be aware every dish is pretty big. The ambiance is really nice and on Wednesdays & Thursdays they have half price on every bottle of wine or champagne!
The food was AMAZING! The only thing we didn’t personally care for was their complementary salsa which is honestly like a sweet & sour dipping sauce and not at all like a salsa. We thought it was sort of “out of place” given the rest of the food. If you don’t get the Dorado fried & spicy then you’re missing out!!! They did overcook my steak also but it was marinated so well and was still very tender so it surprisingly didn’t matter!
I visited this location for a friend’s birthday dinner and the food was great! After looking at many reviews I decided to convince my friends to come here and it was a very pleasant night. The food was on time and the chips and dip is really delicious for a starter. As a large sized group the payment method was completely too complicated for some unclear reason. Despite the server having complications with receiving multiple payments, the food was great and the ambiance was too. I ordered the El Dorado and I believe it was a Jamaican curry. I recommend this place for a night out, just ask before going in big groups about their payment rules.
The food here is delicious. Don’t get me wrong- I will be back. Everything was fresh and the serving sizes are huge with a super flavorful menu. However- don’t come here for the service. Our waitress actually told us she couldn’t seat us without a reservation while we were staring at 7 empty tables. We then booked an open table of which had every time slot imaginable and 2 minutes later got seated begrudgingly by her and ignored to order or brushed off until 30 minutes in. She then forgot to put in our appetizer and had to also come back to the table for the second round because she forgot the dinner orders (it was two of us). Getting the check alone with only two tables left seated took 20 minutes. Long story short, I’m hoping they were short staffed because a quick dinner turned into a three hour affair.
I ate here soon after they opened and my food was very much not to my liking. Some of the seafood dishes sound interesting but unfortunately I had the ropa vieja and I just completely didn't like anything about it. I haven't been back since that experience but it sounds like from some of the other reviews that they have expanded their menu and added some good drinks so I might need to get back to sample some mojitos. As a disclaimer I just really don't find most "Latin American/South American style" food to my liking.
Jo soc valenciana, perfavor no posen eixe nom al nostre plat tradicional i menys amb eixa descripció. Moltes gràcies. Calling that rice Paella Valenciana is an insult to the valencian people. I'm from Valencia (where the Paella is originally) please do not give the original name of the paella to the type of rice you cook in that restaurant. Also, do not give that description to the dish. You can give other names, such as rice with seafood. Thank you. -Os pongo la foto de una paella valenciana real tradicional y una de marisco. -Vos adjunte una foto de la paella valenciana de veritat tradicional i jna de marisc. -I attached a picture of the real Paella from Valencia, the traditional one and the seafood one. I gave you the review in Spanish, English and also Valencian (the language from Valencia).
If I could leave no stars I would. We started off with chips and salsa and the salsa tasted like a Thai chili sauce then I order a brisket that was not good at all it had a sweet taste to it. after having a few bites I decided I didn’t want it so I told the waitress she begins to tell me I have to pay for it not resolve the issue.. I’ve never been to a place where if the food is nasty that I couldn’t return it especially when it was a full plate of food.. never again
Arrived at 11:30am and did not receive food until 12:30pm. There must’ve been only one person working in the kitchen. The tuna tar tar appetizer was good and we did enjoy it. When we left and got in the car, I tasted the Cuban sandwich that we had boxed up. It was absolutely terrible. The worst Cuban sandwich I’ve ever had in the GNO area. We’re yet to eat the enchiladas that we had boxed up.
The crab and shrimp ceviche, guacamole and bacon wrapped plantains were delicious. The chicken and sausage gumbo was good but too much salt. The entree was a different story! I ordered a red vegetarian curry. I recieved a yellow curry that tasted terrible with undercooked vegetables. I sent it back, it wasn't edible. I ordered a different entree and the cook refused to fix it for me because she was afraid I would sent it back. I'm a regular customer and couldn't believe I was being treated this way. The bar tender was rude and I won't go back. The cook bit the hand that pays them to cook. My husband and I spent $200.00 a month eating there. Hopefully they can afford the loss.
The food is good here. I called a month before hand to book the upstairs room for 40 people for my wedding reception. Sounds perfect right? Wrong. I called the Thursday before to confirm and received no call back. When everyone arrived we were told that the air conditioning was out upstairs and that they could only seat 20 people. No call beforehand. When I got upset, I was told to calm down or the police would be called. After all was said and done they told us they could not figure out how to split everyone’s check, which was agreed that they would do when booked. Again the food and ownership are usually good here but I will never give them my business again.
