While in Kathmandu is a neighborhood classic- the space is beautiful, intimate, and lovely for a casual romantic evening! Service from Susie was amazing and friendly. The food is always incredible. Standouts are the pillowy Cheese Naan, veggie momos, and anything from the “Off the Grill” section of the menu. (Salmon was tender and beautifully spiced and I never knew broccoli could be so good.) Check out While in Kathmandu, it’s a beautiful neighborhood spot.

suzie was my server and she was v attentive and kindly answered all my questions abt the food. i had the chicken platter and it was the most flavorful dish i’ve had in a while—just what i needed after a long, grueling winter day. especially loved the achar, i wanted to buy a jar of it. great place to solo dine. and their price point is quite up there ngl, but so worth it. will be back very very soon

I've eaten here probably 5 or 6 times over the past decade (they've been in the neighborhood awhile!). I've never left a review but felt compelled to after my particularly wonderful experience this weekend. A good experience is the standard here over every single one of my visits- the food is always good, the staff is always kind, and there is always somewhere cozy and inviting to sit (their back patio is beautiful in the warmer months). I am a vegetarian - and even a vegan will have no problem with an amazing array of delicious food here. Healthy diners will also be happy to come here- as you can find meals with plenty of legumes, vegetables, and grains- while feeling healthier than most other restaurant fare, it does not skimp on flavor or satisfaction. I have come twice with my daughter and every single staff member is extremely wonderful with children- so it's very family friendly. I hope the neighborhood continues to enjoy and patronize this restaurant for many years to come.

spectacular food (I shared starters: wings, veggie momos, garlic naan, masala fish & chips; will be returning to eat my way through the rest of the menu)! really sweet staff, great vibe. also, extremely affordable, especially for the large servings! most memorable and delicious meal i've had in a while.

While in Kathmandu offers an amazing experience. It is cash only, but there is an ATM located inside. The space is cozy and the staff are kind and attentive without hovering, which makes the entire experience relaxed and comfortable. We started with the cheese naan, cut into generous triangles with lightly blistered surfaces and golden brown spots from the oven. It was served with a smooth mint sauce that tasted fresh and lightly tangy, balancing the richness of the naan. The dry rub masala wings came out deeply golden and crisp, coated evenly in warm spices like cumin, coriander, and chili. Instead of being saucy, the spices clung to the chicken skin, letting the flavor of the meat shine while still delivering heat and aroma. The momos were a standout both visually and in flavor. They arrived steaming hot, neatly pleated and glossy, arranged in a shallow wooden bowl. Beneath them was a thin, chilled tomato sesame based sauce, pale orange in color and lightly nutty. The contrast was intentional and well executed, hot dumplings against a cool, tangy sauce that sharpened each bite. Momos have Tibetan roots and became deeply woven into Nepali food culture, especially in the Kathmandu Valley, where they are everyday comfort food. The wrappers here were thin and tender, never doughy, and the fillings of water buffalo, pork, and chicken were juicy and well seasoned. The water buffalo momos stood out in particular, with a deeper and slightly sweeter richness that reflects how commonly buffalo is used in traditional Nepali cooking. For mains, the Kathmandu Alfredo was an unexpected but well balanced dish. The fettuccine was coated in a creamy sauce with a subtle Nepali twist, incorporating a tomato and chili base that added gentle heat and acidity. We added grilled chicken for a small upcharge, and the pieces sat on top with light char marks that added smokiness. The garlic naan served alongside was not just decorative but useful, perfect for scooping up the sauce. The Chitwan ko Tass arrived on a metal platter that felt almost ceremonial. Cubes of grilled goat meat were dark and caramelized at the edges, looking tender and juicy. They were served with a mound of puffy beaten rice, tomato and radish salsa, crunchy roasted soybean seeds, and fresh cucumber and radish slices. This dish comes from the Chitwan region of Nepal, where grilled meats are traditionally paired with fresh, acidic, and crunchy elements rather than heavy sauces. Visually, the contrast between the charred meat, pale rice, and bright vegetables was striking, and each bite felt balanced and intentional. The Chicken Khaja Platter followed a similar structure. Khaja refers to light meals or snack plates meant to be shared. This platter included juicy grilled chicken, chicken choila prepared with spices and mustard oil, grilled egg, puffy rice, fresh vegetables, and crunchy soybeans. The mustard oil added aroma and depth without overpowering the dish, and the mix of textures kept every bite interesting. My Poleko Lamb arrived sizzling on a cast iron plate set over a wooden base, still steaming when it reached the table. Cubes of boneless lamb were grilled until lightly charred and nestled among bright green vegetables, with mashed potatoes underneath soaking up the juices. A lemon wedge sat on top, ready to be squeezed over the lamb, and a side of Kathmandu coleslaw added freshness and crunch. It looked hearty and rustic, and the flavors delivered exactly that. To finish, I had an iced chiya. Nepali chiya is brewed strong with black tea, milk, ginger, and warming spices, and it is less sweet than typical chai. Served cold, it was smooth and refreshing, a calming way to end a rich and satisfying meal. Overall, they do an excellent job of blending traditional Nepali dishes with approachable comfort food while staying respectful to the cuisine’s roots. The visuals, textures, and flavors all feel intentional, and the experience as a whole feels honest, comforting, and worth returning to.

I came here on a Friday night around 6:00pm with my girlfriend. Right away, we were blown away by the kind and hospitable servers. The bartender was enthusiastic and made us an amazing drink with Nepali liquor based on our preferences. The food was so good that we didn’t get to take a picture before diving in. We had the sadeko aloo (very nice combination of flavors and textures), the cheese naan, two momos (chicken and water Buffalo), and the masala fries. The water buffalo momos were the highlight of the meal, but everything was incredibly delicious. We’re happy to have this place in our neighborhood and will be back.

Excellent food! This spot always has great hospitality too. Momos are a must, if it’s cold the Masala tea or Hot honey and Lemon are excellent

Absolutely delicious Momos. 10/10 worth the trip. The chai was a bit lukewarm while it should preferably be hot.

The food was so delicious! I’m so glad I finally tried this cute spot with amazing food and super lovely service. The staff guided me through ordering and they were so kind and thoughtful. Amazed there wasn’t a line out the door for how good the food was and the value for what you pay. The momos were authentic and the portion was large. I’m so glad I don’t have to trek all the way to Jackson heights for legit and fantastic Nepalese food. Definitely a Ridgewood favorite!

We celebrated my mom’s birthday here and it was such a wonderful experience! The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and the food was beyond our expectations—absolutely delicious! Everything we ordered was amazing. We’ll definitely be coming back!

I had a big day ahead with an important public presentation/performance, so I was a bit nervy. But I really wanted some Momos. It was the perfect place to soothe my nerves, in the back garden where I found myself among the birdsong, but otherwise, completely alone. The waiter was a lovely man and he recommended the water buffalo momos. Although I was initially reticent to try a new meat right before said performance, I’m so glad I did. It was delicious and slightly unplaceable meat-wise. The sauce was cold, the meat was hot, it was the perfect contrast. That said, I walked back out into the city armed for the day, having already dared to try something new, I knew I could confront something even bigger. Thank you to the waiter who encouraged me to try their new momos!!

Haven't had the chance to visit Nepal but dining here made me feel like I got to try authentic Nepalese food. All the staff were very hospitable and the owner explained clearly the ingredients used. The plantain momo was delicious and so different from other momos I've had. The main courses had really unique side dishes and the puff rice was cool. The staff also shared their knowledge of Nepalese culture with us. Only downside was it was cash only.

The company was incredible. Laughter, joy, sorrow, and excitement. All of the previous emotions on that list I just made were in the air while in Kathmandu. One day, I would like to climb the Himalayas. Think of the fresh breeze one may experience while approaching one of its summits. Incredible. The food was good too, get the fish starter.

The staff is super friendly, the food was great, cleanliness good. It’s cash only tho so bring cash or use they atm they have at the back of the restaurant. Got the Water Buffalo Momo and Chicken Khaja platter. Momo is a must try: Ginger, coriander, spicy, pleasantly sour. Hot sauce on the side gives more flavor and spices. Dumpling is hot and sauce is cold. Nice balance so you can eat the Momo right away. I was the only customer atm, and it took a little while (20min) for it to come so it shows they make the sauce or the dumpling or both on the spot. Already half full at this point. The platter started good with very crispy juicy chicken and fried shallot crispy rice thing. Beans are also crispy, so is the pork thing . Vegetables are coated with kind of like egg salad thing. Great. So when I’m half way into the plate things started be very chewy and they become cold really quick. I suppose cold dish is a characteristic of Tibetan/Nepali cuisine. I spent $50 alone but I’m so full I can’t walk. so I think $30 would be sufficient to have a good meal here. Don’t be fooled by the size. The crispy rice takes up your stomach real fast.

Incredible experience. Generous portions. Beautifully spiced. Fair prices. Great service. Lovely atmosphere. I had the sizzling clay-fired salmon (amazing!) and the garlic naan with hummus. Everything was fresh and came out in good time. They also have really nice beer options though I didn’t drink :)

Absolutely delicious and great service. Never would have thought I’d ever order a fettuccine Alfredo in public but that was amazing. And the cheese nan is probably the best I’ve ever had. Tons of vegetarian options too if you’re into that sort of thing.

Amazingly flavorful food! Cute outdoor seating in the back. Very quiet, perfect late lunch. Service was great, food came out quick. Had the saucy wings, garlic naan, poppers, not a taco, and pork momos. Incredible food! So delish.

Love the ambiance and service here - they’re kind and helpful! I tried the chicken khaja platter and it was interesting to try although I probably wouldn’t order again. There were a lot of textures and the soybeans were a bit strong for me. I would definitely want to come here again and try other menu items. Also it’s cash only! There is an ATM in the back :)

Delicious flavor palette and great vibe! Had a great dinner here. We ordered a mango lassi, water buffalo dumplings, garlic naan, and the goat platter! Absolutely delicious. Super cool arrangement of meat options!! Huge servings for the price and we were pleasantly stuffed! The goat platter had an array of interesting flavors. The goat was a bit gamey though, always feel a bit weird picking bones out of my food in a restaurant.

Spacious restaurant with outdoor and indoor seating. Super friendly service. The server explained the dishes and made recommendations. I ordered the masala chicken wings, a chicken platter, and pork jhol momos. The pork momos were the best! They were the perfect size and texture and seasoned to perfection. The herbs in the filling weren't overpowering. Everything was perfectly balanced and delicious! It was paired with a flavorful and addictive sauce. The hot sauce offered with it really gave the flavors a nice spicy kick. The chicken platter was interesting to try. But, I wouldn't get it again because it had too many different textures. The fried soybeans and dry rice were odd to pair with chicken. I would definitely come back for the pork momos and great service!

Would have been a better experience if the AC wasn’t so cold 😅. The food and service were great and the Masala fries were our favorite! I really loved their menu as it was unique and different compared to your typical Jackson Heights restaurant. Not a Taco truly stood out to us, so much so that we even placed a to-go order later. 🌮

Sure! Here’s a more detailed and engaging review: ⸻ I recently dined at While in Kathmandu and overall had a pretty solid experience. I’d give it 4 out of 5 stars. The pricing is very reasonable, and the portions are generous, which is always a plus. It’s nice to find a spot that doesn’t skimp on serving sizes, especially in NYC. The highlight of the meal was definitely the chicken momos—perfectly seasoned, juicy, and packed with flavor. You can tell they take their time to make them right. However, the goat skewers were a huge letdown. The meat was way too chewy, almost rubber-like, making it hard to enjoy. If they could improve the texture—either by using a better cut of meat or adjusting the cooking method—it would make a big difference. Another downside is that this place is cash only. I get that some small restaurants prefer cash transactions, but it’s 2025, and most people don’t carry cash anymore. They do have an ATM in the back that only charges a $1 fee, which is better than most places, but that only helps if you happen to have your debit card on you. Accepting cards would make things so much more convenient for customers. That said, the service here is excellent. The staff is incredibly friendly, and our server was very knowledgeable about the menu, offering great recommendations. It’s clear they take pride in making guests feel welcome, which really adds to the experience. Overall, I’d definitely come back, but I’d avoid the goat skewers unless they revamp them. The food, for the most part, is great, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. If they could tweak a few things—like the goat dish and the payment options—this place could easily be a 5-star spot.
