We were visiting SF and took a lovely drive to Sausalito and stumbled upon Barrel House. What a lovely afternoon and lunch at this place really made a memorable day. Kat was very personable, lovely and accommodating throughout our entire experience. We got a bottle of wine for 50% off and all got delicious meals. The Shrimp risotto was so delicious, and they allowed me to sub mushrooms out for another veggies. The sandwiches were huge and yummy. The only feedback was the Rainbow salad was not a good representation of Panzanella salad. It had way too many greens and not enough veggies at all.

Absolutely brilliant as always! Cocktails were delicious (watermelon martini),starter (tacos) were out of this world and then there's steak sandwich 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 10/10 as always! We were served by Brianna too and she was such a sweetheart and so attentive. Thank you to everyone who looked after us today!

First time dining at the Barrel House Tavern and I must say that the food is very tasty (for me), service was really good (kudos to the staff! 😄), and ambiance is very lovely. I would definitely go back here.

We visited Sausalito on a day trip from San Francisco and stopped here for lunch. So glad we did! I ordered the crab cakes while my husband went for a burger and fries, and everything was delicious. Arriving early at 11 AM was perfect since the place filled up quickly, likely with the ferry crowds. We scored outdoor seating with incredible views of San Francisco Bay, and to top it off, our server surprised me with complimentary ice cream and candle for my birthday! Wonderful hospitality and highly recommended!

We had dinner at Barrel House Tavern and it was one of the highlights of our time near San Francisco. We sat outside on the terrace and the view over the bay, with the San Francisco skyline in the distance, was simply breathtaking. As the sun started to set, the whole setting became even more magical. The combination of good food, ocean air and that iconic skyline made it a truly memorable evening. The only small downside was that our starter and main course arrived almost at the same time, which disrupted the flow of the dinner a bit. But given the atmosphere and the view, it was easy to overlook. An absolute recommendation, especially if you can get a table outside around sunset.

Views and services were immaculate. The food was very delicious. The price might seem hi but the portions are enormous specially the calamari!

UPDATE: I was able to speak with one of the AGM‘s at this location. They will get back to me on how to coordinate about rectifying this and I am beyond grateful he was very kind and listened to what I had to say. Final update: I don’t believe a few words can truly express how much I have to say about this restaurant. Last night, I felt genuine warmth and care from the entire team especially when we were approached by Atilla and Lance. They were so apologetic for our past experience, and I sincerely appreciate them for taking the time to listen and understand where we were coming from. Atilla, it was wonderful seeing you again! We first met on our very first visit, and you’ve been just as kind and professional as ever. Lance, we’re also so glad you remembered our family! I always see you walking around, checking in with guests and staff your attentiveness shows in every detail. Thank you for keeping communication open and making sure everything went perfectly. Lance treated us to a caviar bump, what a unique and fun experience! The caviar was fresh and delicious, and the sake paired beautifully. A huge thank you to Arnulfo, who was kind, attentive, thoughtful and such a great singer! He surprised my daughter by singing her happy birthday, and Lance joined in too. It meant so much that they took the time on such a busy night. My daughter was shy but absolutely thrilled, she talked about it the whole way home and said how special it made her feel, especially seeing her favorite waitress, Taylor… Taylor, thank you for asking my daughter if it was okay to give her a hug, that level of thoughtfulness really touched us. Now, the food, where do I even begin? For appetizers, we had the Three-Tier Seafood Tower, which was absolutely top tier. It included fresh clams, oysters, ceviche, taro chips, caviar, shrimp, and lobster tail. Everything was fresh and perfectly prepared, we couldn’t get enough! Even my daughter, who isn’t the biggest seafood fan, dug in and loved the shrimp. It was a true highlight of the meal. The burgers were cooked perfectly medium rare, juicy, flavorful, and delicious. The fries were fresh, crisp, and seasoned perfectly. My steak was incredible! cooked exactly to my liking, tender, and full of flavor. Huge thanks to the kitchen staff and chef for the care they put into every dish. For dessert, we had the Butterscotch Bread Pudding, Chocolate Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream, and an Espresso Martini. I don’t even have much of a sweet tooth, but everything was outstanding! The bread pudding was warm, rich, and melted in every bite, absolutely divine. Hands down, we had a phenomenal time. Thank you all for reminding us why we continuously choose this restaurant for dinner. The service was top tier Last night, I truly felt like family. Atilla, Lance, Arnulfo, and Taylor, thank you again for your kindness, attentiveness, and care. It was a night to remember, and we look forward to many more visits.

Great vibes here. The staff is really welcoming and helpful. I’d recommend trying the clam chowder here, it’s delicious. Also, the oysters are the best you can find in the area.

Affordable Happy Hour food and drink prices from the bar. The views at their patio is amazing.

The most gorgeous views and the most splendid plating. And the most oyster tasting oysters helping me ascertain the fact that I hate raw oysters. Would recommend Barrel House Tavern. Good times in saucy Sausalito ✨

Barrel House Tavern is a great choice for a casual happy hour! Really well-made cocktails. The bartender is fantastic. This is the spot for margaritas! Indoor and outdoor seating (limited outdoors). Gorgeous waterfront views! Excellent service

Wonderful dining experience, with a well run open kitchen and talented chef. The view is breathtaking and great atmosphere and decor.

Amazing views overlooking the city! Beautiful interior and lovely little decking area outside. The staff were super friendly, welcoming and well-humoured. They were all very accommodating to our group of 6 and we really enjoyed our visit! Food, wine and cocktails were amazing - maybe slightly on the pricier side for food but the quality was worth every cent! Would highly recommend if you’re visiting Sausalito.

Took my wife for lunch on her birthday and this place is amazing. We preferred to sit outside for the weather was nice and sunny. The view of the bay is spectacular, and you can see the ferry come and go nearby. We ordered the chef's wood even flatbread and the Grille ribeye steak sandwich and they were perfect. The atmosphere is good, and so is the service. I would definitely come back to this place and maybe at a later time to see the sundown.

Absolutely breathtaking views of the Bay Area. Day was clear and sunny, and allowed us to dazzle at the beauty of San Francisco . I ordered the Sausalito Style Clam Chowder which was much thinner than New England or San Fran Style, but was far more delicious. Delicately balanced flavors mixed with clams still in the shell, new potatoes and a slightly light addition of aromatics. Might be the best clam chowder I've ever had. My coworker had the braised short ribs which she raved about. Highly recommend getting reservations, this place gets packed quickly and doesn't allow much room for walk ins, and this was on a Monday.

We stopped at the Barrel House Tavern during a Muir Woods/Sausalito Tour. We had limited time (about 45 minutes) and weren’t sure if we should eat lunch there. The hostess and server assured us that we had plenty of time. We ordered the Cheesy Garlic Bread, Wild Mushroom Ravioli and the Grilled Pacific King Salmon. The food was excellent, the view was magnificent, and the service was great. We were able to eat and enjoy the view with time to spare.

Made reservations to this place and our clients loved it. We had a great view of the bay city and the drinks and food was fantastic. We did arrive on a nice sunny Sunday so service took a bit but definitely would come back again!

Nothing compares to eating a delicious burger overlooking the bay. We will be back. Excellent service, great foood.

We came in because we saw the happy hour oyster sign - and it did not disappoint! (You can only sit at/around the bar for happy hour.) We had 12 oysters and there were fresh and awesome! We were so happy we stopped! I highly recommend this if you enjoy oysters, a good story about where they’re from locally, and relaxing in comfy seats.

Excellent water view dining in a beautiful small town. Our family loved our delicious entrees. Unfortunately, my husband had the halibut and pinto beans but should have been cannellini beans and the combination was terrible. We would have appreciated if we were told of the substitution before hand otherwise a different entree would have been chosen. Excellent customer service.

It’s all about the views when you come to Barrel House Tavern. Highly recommend sitting outside… if you can that is. The wait time here can really be no joke depending on how great the weather is. Great news- you can do a reservation on Open Table. When we walked in the wait time was over 30 minutes. Luckily we had a reservation and got our table immediately. Service was great. Our server was super friendly and great at connecting. It was a busy day but he had no issue keeping up. The food was fine. Cocktails and views were what we came for. Martinis were on point. We also ordered the Watermelon Margaritas. YUM. Will absolutely be coming back. Thanks for such a beautiful day!

Loved loved the place. We had their artichoke fundido appetizer, mushroom ravioli and chicken sandwich. Loved everything. We got the table without much waiting on Sunday late afternoon. But would recommend booking a table if you want a table directly overlooking the bay. They also have limited seating on the balcony if you want to reserve that

We love this place! Our third time here in a month. Alina was the bartender and she was incredibly knowledgeable and a Berkeley grad student who was such a great conversationalist. My wife and I had such a memorable evening there. All of our drinks were fantastic and she was so knowledgeable about fun things to do here. We lived here in SF for years and just returned after a long absence. She gave us lots of great recommendations of new places to explore and was an amazing host. She is a wonderful face to this gem of a bar and restaurant. We would come back here solely for the opportunity to converse with her and learn more about the Bay Area. All of the staff here are so relaxed and friendly. The food here is excellent and the happy hour foods are delicious with large portions. The vibe is fun and the view is beyond fantastic. If you are in Sausalito and want a friendly relaxing evening with a wonderful sea view and delicious food of good value, don’t miss this place.

What a beautiful location! Flew in from the East Coast to visit family for a birthday and we had such a nice time at Barrel House Tavern. The restaurant was packed but we were seated quickly. I ordered the cheese steak sandwich which was substantial and delicious! My sister’s ravioli dish was our favorite on the table. Our waitress Brie was such a delight! Great recommendations and made us feel special for my Dad’s 80th! Only down side, the restaurant felt pretty cold but overall Highly recommend Barrel House Tavern!

I am a long time Marin local. Been going to this location since the 1970's when it was another restaurant (Hulihands?) for the views but haven't been in a decade+. We went here based on a recommendation from a friend. Views haven't changed. Food was good & you pay for the views! Heat lamps outside on the deck kept us warm. Had a great afternoon of cocktails, wine & food. Nice mix of tourists & locals. Happy Hour looked good too. Beautiful restaurant & Bar!

We had a great time at the Barrel House Tavern. Oysters Florentine was great, the mini tacos were just perfectly sized. The place is busy so a tad noisy but a great place if you want water views. And bonus, you could see the Blue Angels' performance on the horizon.

Ambience and view was amazingly great.. food was really delectable, we enjoyed every bite of it. The waiter was very nice, friendly... you can really enjoy dining here. They didn't rush us so we were able to really enjoy each other's company and savor the food

Excellent ambience, wonderful views of the San Francisco Skyline and Bay Bridge, great service, quick, attentive and polite. Food was average, but OK. We would still visit the place again. Sausalito is so lovely.

Beautiful spot to enjoy the SF Bay, and a nice drink. There isn’t a bad place to sit in the place. We loved Sausalito. It’s a beautiful town. We split a pizza and it had no flavor but the servers were great!

This was one of the few restaurants on my list for Sausalito, and since this was the closest to the biking path from San Francisco and we were famished, we decided to eat here. They don’t really have bike parking, so you have to go to the ferry building and park there. There was a 30 minute wait, but we got a table in close to 15 minutes. The restaurant itself is beautiful. It is huge and modern with a lot of different seating areas. They also have an outdoor seating area directly facing the sea, but it is not ideal for groups. The service was prompt and very personable. The restaurant was fully packed, but still we felt taken care of. We had a few vegetarians in the group and the menu had few vegetarian dishes as well. The food was hit or miss to be honest. I loved the shrimp, calamari and octopus fritters. It was really fresh and extremely crispy. The sandwiches were solid, but nothing crazy. My short rib was very nicely cooked, but the cauliflower purée lacked any seasoning. My friends vegetarian flatbread was also extremely bland. I guess you can give this place a try for its amazing ambience and service, but I wouldn’t come here just for the food.

I really enjoyed eating here, the views and tranquility are hard to match in Sausalito. I did end up with food I didn’t order, and somehow had a couple items from the people sitting next to me on my bill, which was fixed with no hassle. I did not care for the shishito pepper appetizer, the peppers were bitter and had no flavor. The clam chowder, which is much more broth like than most, was delicious though and I’d absolutely order it again.

The food was delicious, and the atmosphere was fantastic, especially on the outside deck overlooking the water. The service was lacking. We always had to grab the attention of our server. We had cocktails, appetizers, and then shared a burger and fries. After our drinks were served, we waited a reasonable amount of time, and our server never returned. We had to flag him down to order the appetizers. We finished our drinks and appetizers without seeing our server. We had to flag him down again to ask for more cocktails and place our food order. Our food and drinks were served, and we never saw our server again. We finally grabbed a different server's attention, and she did a great job. She got us more drinks and removed our dishes. She did come back and check on us while we finished our drinks and brought us the bill at the end. Our lunch bill, without the tip, was $130, and I think that warrants better service. We left a 12% tip, and on the way out, we hunted down the second server to personally hand her $15 cash.

The Barrel House Tavern offers a dining experience that seamlessly combines stunning views of the bay with a relaxed, inviting ambiance. During our lunch visit, the service was prompt and professional, setting a welcoming tone for the meal. We began with the Blackberry Smash, a refreshing and well-balanced cocktail. For starters, we shared three appetizers: the crisp and flavorful Gem Caesar Salad, the perfectly seared Dungeness Crab Cakes, and the bold, savory Korean-style BBQ Chicken Wings. Each dish was thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented. For our main course, we chose the Wild Pacific Salmon, served atop a bed of delicate couscous. The salmon was expertly cooked, complementing the dish's light and flavorful profile. Every bite was delightful, and the attentive service enhanced the overall experience. We look forward to returning for another memorable meal.

Want to get the happy hour oysters and beer special? Grab a bar counter seat. Because you are a cheapskate they won’t let you sit out on the balcony with the better view. Those pay full price are first class and I’m a coach seat kind of people I sit inside with not view. Oh, the beer was good and so were the oysters, but they are kind of small.

Happy Hour in Sausalito and the Barrel House Tavern is the place to go! We came here pretty late close to closing which is 9pm with a large group of about 10 after an event nearby. They were busy but the bar area was nice and had a great view looking out. It took them a second to clean up the area but they got to take our orders and we should have asked to separate it by table. We didn’t order any drinks but we just wanted some food, people in my group ordered their oysters, sausage pizza, sliders, ceviche (really lite), I got the buffalo chicken wings that came with 6, and someone else got a flat bread. I think everyone enjoyed and devoured their food while the others also just chilled and socialized. It’s very nice inside and you feel like you’re in a barrel overlooking the water. Parking can be be a bit difficult in this area, there’s metered and 2 hour street parking until 6pm and 8pm in some areas. There are also some parking lots nearby. A nice place to check out if you’re in the area, might be a lot of tourists too.

Huge selection of drinks, great food, and a great view. We got the Sexy Cosmopolitan, a local draft beer, the Tartare Tacos, and the Crispy Panko Snapper Ciabatta Bread Sandwich with a side of the garlic parmesan fries. The drinks were delicious. The tacos were surprisingly good, typically not something I enjoy, but the wonton shells made it. The sandwich and fries were also great. They didn't stand a chance. Taylor took good care of us considering it was a Sunday during brunch/lunch. The place was surprisingly fancy and the view was just amazing. Sitting outside in the sun was a treat. They even let us bring our service animal on the patio.

We checked in and were told about an hour wait. It wasn't bad and we're actually called in an 1hr. Got our table after 15mins. We ordered food but somehow between our server and kitchen, our food order was lost. We sat there for about 45mins waiting and finally the server informed us about our order ticket was misplaced. The server actually bought us drink to make up for their error. This place was really packed and tables were placed really close to each other. Everytime a server walks by they brush customers hands and tables. They shouldn't pack customers like that. Not impressed with their service or their food.

We had a good experience overall at Barrel House Tavern, and the location alone makes it a memorable spot. The setting is iconic and hard to beat, especially if you are visiting the area. The standout for us was the fries, which were genuinely the best I have ever had. That said, the food and atmosphere did feel a bit more corporate than we typically prefer, which took away slightly from the overall charm. Still, it was an enjoyable meal in a beautiful location, and worth visiting at least once for the setting alone.

Had a gorgeous view sitting outside overlooking the water. Bench counter table was a bit small to eat at but worth it for the view of the water. Watched sea lions, porpoises, seagulls and ships Had fun fighting off a seagull who wanted my fries! Waiter was fine. I had the Lobster Bisque and felt it was extremely overpriced for the amount received. It was only ok - not the best. VERY tiny amount of bisque that is poured over what appeared to be little fish cakes. Nice prrsentation since they pour it over at your table but too small of a portion for the price. Fries were very good. Beniet donuts were vey good. My Espresso Martini was excellent. My husband had the clam chowder which was tasty and had a generous portion.

Took over an hour to be seated, they forgot about us. Also forgot some of our food items. Price was high, but over all a fun experience! Beautiful location. The Bar tender was not a happy dude! And the drinks were $20 ea

The manager would not provide water for my service animal and told me Marin county laws prevent him from providing it. I asked for a to go container and he stated for sanitary purposes he can’t. I looked up the law and it states that they are not required to but its their choice if they decide to. This did not make this a very happy hour! I spoke with the GM at the end who told me that Marin county health department came down hard on them for providing water to service animals inside their establishment. I will be contacting the marin county health department to confirm. The waitress and rest of the staff were very pleasant.

Disappointing, such a nice place but they were so overwhelmed and did not handle it well. We were seated front and center but were ultimately ignored. My friends burger bun was crumbling apart and the pattie was bland. My friends risotto was such a small portion. The highlight was the French fries sadly. My old fashioned sat so long it came out watery. When I asked them to take it back they bright it back but just added more alcohol to it so it tasted like a straight shot of alcohol. So pricy for an average meal tbh. Would not return.

P
Pooya Fayyaz

Rude and cold reception right at the door, not a great start. The food was just okay, nothing special. Service matters, and this place didn’t deliver. Two stars for the lack of basic hospitality. The raw oyster was good though, l like the sauces it came with.

S
Sheralynn Magallanes

Food and drinks were good (not up to par for the price, but not bad), establishment was beautiful, service was bad. I feel like maybe they profile you based on how much money they think you make? I’m an East Bay Native so I don’t come to Sausalito often but I wanted to show my friend someplace nice to celebrate a milestone she accomplished in her educational career. We made a reservation and the host told us our table wasn’t ready which we were totally fine with as we were a tad early. She told us we could order drinks at the bar while we wait. While waiting by the bar, a man in a suite who I assume to be the manager asked us if we were just standing there or waiting for a table and I told him the hostess told us to wait here. He didn’t say anything after, just left, but that made us feel a bit uncomfortable because he gave us no affirmation or direction after being questioned which made us think we were maybe doing something we weren’t supposed to, but there was little room elsewhere to stand while we waited. For the rest of our time there I see him checking on other guests with a smile. We get seated and wait a very long time to be checked on until I had to wave down someone just to order. After getting our food, I asked one of the servers for hot sauce (an older man with blue eyes) and he made a face then shrugged and said they had tapatío but I didn’t want it if it came with that kind of attitude. Thankfully my friend and I know how to protect our light and we had a good time because that’s what we came to do. A much kinder server outside (a woman) took our picture, the views are of course gorgeous, but that’s thanks to the Land.

I recently dined at The Barrel House Restaurant and unfortunately left feeling underwhelmed. While I had hopes for a pleasant experience, the reality fell short in several key areas. The Food The most significant letdown was the cuisine itself. The dishes we ordered were disappointingly bland and lacked any real depth of flavor. Whether it was underseasoning or just uninspired preparation, nothing on our table had that memorable quality you hope for when dining out. For a restaurant, having flavorless food is unfortunately a critical miss. The Service On a more positive note, the service was acceptable. Our server was attentive enough and the staff handled their duties professionally. It wasn’t exceptional by any means, but it was competent and got the job done without any major issues. Final Thoughts Given the lackluster food quality, I can’t in good conscience recommend The Barrel Restaurant. While the service was passable, dining out is primarily about the food experience, and that’s where this establishment fundamentally misses the mark. There are simply too many other options available that offer better flavor and value for your money. Unless significant improvements are made to the kitchen.
