The stuffed shells were outstanding!!
I love pizza, but most of my family does not love it like I do. So when we decide to have pizza, my fiance prefers the more traditional pizza, like Gaetanos. This time we also ordered meat raviolis, and gnocchi. My first time having gnocchi, and i loved it. I obviously can't speak to it's quality as an authentic dish. The pizza was great as well.
Nice small family style Italian restaurant. Prices reasonable. Food good. Customer service good and friendly. Clean and orderly. Many family owned / run restaurants are going away in this expensive inflated economy. Support and visit the local mom and pop businesses. One day they all will be a memory.
Great local eatery. Delicious Italian food. Veterans know. Newbies give it a try. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
Service and food were AMAZING!! Our server was the BEST, I believe his name was Eric- he's the one with the top hat 😉
It was great to speak with Sherry who took my to go order for some client luncheon. Kelly was awesome!! Food was delicious and hot. Thank you. Will recommend them always!! Thank You.
Such a great spot! The food is so fresh and flavorful, the portions are super generous — we all left full and happy! 🍝🍕 The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, perfect for families ! 💛 The staff was so friendly and attentive, and you can really tell they care about the food and the experience. Can’t wait to come back! 🇮🇹✨
Great place to dine and enjoy a tasty meal. Sauce is great and the bread is amazing. Cant wait to try again
Lovely Italian restaurant. Great Italian food here from the pasta, marinara sauce, pizza, to the bread. Our favorite dishes are the lasagna and spaghetti with meat sauce. Overall, everything here tastes delicious and homemade. The atmosphere is very friendly and pleasant. Our server was exceptionally welcoming, engaging, and warm. We shared some smiles and laughs. I recommend this establishment. Come for the food, come back for the service.
Very delicious large servings. We had zucchini pasta which was a light fresh choice and carbonara which was delightfully creamy and heavy. We ordered an antipasto salad which was huge and full of sliced meat. We were only one of 2 parties eating lunch in the restaurant on weekday. I assume they do mostly take out. Our sever was so accommodating. The dining room was pleasant with nice windows. Great food!!
The Gaetano's in Spring Valley (open some weekdays for lunch) and the Gaetano's in Lakeside (open for dinner only) are owned by brothers. I took myself out at noon today for lunch. I asked the hostess if I had to follow the menu exactly, and she replied, "Each item can be served like you want it to be!" What a treat! 😊 So, I ordered the fettuccine with marinara sauce, both garlic bread & dinner bread, a salad w blue cheese dressing (on the side), 1 meatball, 1 sausage, a glass of red wine, and spumoni! I wanted to taste different things, being a first-time customer, but this was too much to eat quickly. The hostess bagged the leftovers for me, but I ate all of the spumoni! 😁 If you want to be treated like family when dining alone or with guests, this is the place for you! 🙂 The food was delicious, and the restroom was very clean! I will definitely return!✔️
Great family Italian place. Enjoyed the pizza and lasagna. Very attentive service!
Very tasty fresh food. Service could be faster, the waitstaff never seems to be in a hurry, so you'd better not be either. Everything is just a bit overpriced, but especially the $3 small salad which is optional with most entrees. It consists mainly of iceberg lettuce. You will also get a tiny slice of tomato, 3 black olives, and a banana pepper. There is no onion, cabbage, carrot, broccoli, or any other greens. The Italian dressing is good and probably homemade. The chicken parmesan is quite good, as are their pizzas. Glasses of wine are $7 to $9, which would buy the whole bottle at the liquor store.
I placed my order the day before after confirming this location opens at 11:00 a.m. I started coming here after seeing a news report that another local location was going out of business, and I wanted to support a local pizza shop—even though I pass plenty of other options within 10 miles. Today was a special day for me as an Army veteran, with the Army vs. Navy football game kicking off at noon. I requested my order for 11:30 a.m. and arrived early at 11:20. The waitress looked for my order, confirmed it, and handed it to the cook, instead of having it already in the oven or ready. Immediately afterward, the waitress and another employee sat down to eat their own lunch, while I was left waiting. The pizza itself is good, with decent toppings, but on a day that mattered to me, the service and priorities missed the moment.
Not a family friendly environment. I'll never even look in the direction of this place again. This location gave us one of the most Discriminating Horrific experiences I've ever had in my life. The food is absolutely delicious, homemade authentic Italian, and the only thread of dignity they have left. There are two older women that serve here, hopefully not for long after this eye opening post. I can't even call them ladies, these excuse for "women", were entirely rude and don't belong in exquisite dining or customer service, and for their "matured" age, they definitely should've know better than to treat a lady with such disrespect and discrimination. I was so excited to come back this second time given the exceptional grand visit we had the first time here, when the gentleman Eric served us the greatest experience, leaving us craving to return!! He made us feel like we were in Italy and absolutely cared for! We left delightfully that first time saying, "this was by far an extraordinary meal and amazing customer service with some of the best Italian food and just can't wait to return"!! Our second time back, regarding this current review, was about a month later. We sat down knowing exactly the dish we wanted to order, the famous well-portioned, Lasagna!! My fiance ordered himself some wine, and I ordered a glass of water. These "women", who are old enough to be retired with too much make-up and bad hair-dye in denial to accept the reality of their age, absolutely refused to serve me a simple glass of Water. First of all, I didn't order the wine, my fiance did for himself. Second of all, little did these grumps know, I wasn't even drinking any alcohol because we literally just had a heartbreaking loss due to my fertility challenges being the aging lady that I am. The last thing I wanted was wine or any alcohol for that matter. All I wanted, was a glass of water and the delicious lasagna special posted in my video above. The first haggard looking woman looked at me up and down with burning judgment and treated me as if I were a child - I'm 37 years old, an RN working in trauma literally saving lives, and a professional grad student studying for my doctorate degree. Not only did this woman refuse to bring out my glass of water after demeaningly demanding my ID that I said was left in the car, I made it very clear and politely told her, I specifically only wanted a glass of water. She then made me wait over 15 minutes and sent out this even more haggard looking back-up buddy, who Also refused to give me a simple glass of water, demanding my ID again while she discriminated against me looking me up and down like she was jealous and in disbelief of my natural youth. I may look young, but I definitely don't look underage. Normally, I would take someone asking for my ID as a compliment, but this was blatant disrespect. Once my fiance stepped back inside from his phone call, I told him what happened and we quickly and quietly walked out vowing never to return. I don't care how good and authentic the food is, we'll never be back. They added insult to my injury and clearly, do not support the historical family values that both Son's of Gaetanos pride themselves on. I will only ever go to the Lakeside location where Maria and her husband run a tip-top fine establishment and treat everyone with courtesy kindness and respect...they serve the same menu with the same exceptional quality food, even better than the brother store located in La Mesa. This is such ashame. I have over 7 Million views on my Google reviews, in the top 10% of restaurant reviewers, and very loyal to my trusted establishments. This traumatizing experience is a complete disgrace to the Gaetanos family name. I strongly recommend reconsidering allowing such ignorant employees to continue working for this location, they're not even part of the family, clearly, because if they were, I honestly don't feel I would've been treated with such disgusting disrespect. I'll definitely be sharing this horrible experience with Aldo Sr., Junior, and Maria, in Lakeside.
