Best Burger had in a long time and man those fries are to die for!!!! The aviance is cozy and the service impeccable. Drove over an hour to just have lunch and was worth every minute. Pet friendly if eating outside on the patio.

We ate at the restaurant and it is a 5 star experience. I would expect a restaurant of this caliber in NY or Chicago, but here it is in Volcano!! If you are in Pioneer on your way to skiing, make it a point to eat at this place. We had the steak, the Mac n cheese, the fried chicken, and gnocchi. It was all delicious and the service was excellent. Okay, now, I'm gushing, but it's worth the trip.

Parking is one street and during a busy hour (like we experienced), it was hard to park. We stopped by to eat. The place was busy! The food was delicious. We had fish and chips, a burger and gnocchi. I was really happy with the service and the quality (and the amount) of the food. Their french fries are super yummy, btw! The prices are on the higher side but nothing too crazy.

Yummy place in a cute little town. Stopped here for a snack before we hit the caverns. The burger was cooked to perfection & beer was ice cold! Loved it here.

This is my go to place for the best fried chicken, and yes all the food here is quite tasty. I used to share the fried chicken and yummy mac-n-cheese with the hubby, but now he has to order his own. I save the other half for lunch the next day. Staff is wonderful, and always makes you feel welcome. I look forward to the great weather so we can sit out in the courtyard. Great place to meet up with friends or family, enjoy great food and a splash of wine or a a glass of beer. Cheers to your future visit.

We enjoyed the Limon room with direct balcony access, king room, and clawfoot tub. The bath salts were a nice touch. The bed was comfy, and the room was spacious. There's a shared mini-fridge in the hall and complimentary snacks & coffee. The pub was delicious! We loved the Union Mac & Cheese, the meatloaf was some of the best I've had, the fried chicken was fantastic, and the salad was a perfect starter. They had tasty local wines and pleasant service in a lovely, lively atmosphere with inside & patio seating. There's a gorgeous fireplace inside a cozy room of the restaurant and seating available at the bar. Highly recommended! Breakfast was also wonderful!

Absolutely excellent service. We had burgers - which came w/salad, fries or garlic fries. My mother-in-law is a vegetarian enjoyed her salad. It has whatever fresh fruit is - it was peaches. We took home the left overs & I tried a bit of her salad. It was hella good. I would definitely recommend stopping by if you're ever traveling up Hwy 88!

This place is a quaint little restaurant, offering big flavors. The entrance is on the left side of the building as you face it. To order, you'll go up to the bar and then be seated. So I ordered their burger (not pictured). It was a generous and tasty offering. The burger was cooked appropriately and their brioche bun is soft. Their fries are crispy and taste fantastic. Recommend adding cheese and avocado to the burger (extra charges). We tried their creme Brule cheesecake and the apple cobbler. The cobbler was to die for..it is served piping hot from the oven with a cool scoop of vanilla ice cream. The staff is friendly, everyone had a smile and they were frequently checking in on us. Very hard working group. Can't wait to return... Humble request: consider serving a cuban sandwich in your restaurant? We have to drive all the way to bay area to get a decent one.

What an amazing little place in the heart of a cute town! We researched a restaurant that had a dog friendly patio near the Black Chasm cave. After our visit at the cave, we arrived to a wonderful dining experience with our puppy! The air was a bit chilly so the waiter offered us inside seating where it was warmer in the game room and opened the door so that our puppy could comfortably look outside the patio! The service was fast and friendly and the food was wonderful! Thank you again for making our lunch visit comfortable and friendly! We will be back :)

This restaurant is one of my favorites in 30 years of foody adventuring! The chef creates seasonal masterpieces of flavor, and the consistency and quality is top notch. I moved to Volcano a bit over a year ago and have been here 6-7 times since, I brought my parents, my girlfriends parents, every item on the menu is to die for and the staff are so kind and go out of their way to welcome and accommodate you. The mushroom bruschetta is ridiculous. Too good. I ordered a quart to go 😋. The salmon is perfect. Burgers amazing. If you like food you won't be disappointed. Oh yea and amazing ambience! The apple cobbler with ice cream was insane as well. Thank you so much for the wonderful meals, Volcano Union! See you next time 💓

Food was good and not too pricey. The hamburger was huge and fries were good. Kids liked the mac n cheese and simple pasta. A little more upscale, but we sat on the patio and had a little extra room for the kids

Took my kids & grandkids after a tour of Black Chasm Cavern National Landmark. We had a delightful lunch in the outside patio area. Kids loved the Mac 'n cheese and plain pasta from the kids menu. Adults had fish 'n chips, a Union burger and garlic fries. The food was good, the servers attentive and the place has great ambience. 5 stars

I am always so happy to have such a great dining experience every time I go to the union! I am a picky eater, and gosh darn it. I love the food and the service

Delicious burger, ice cold beer, serene out door seating. Inside is cute, too. We had a late lunch.

Great location in a small town.. food was delicious - the lamb burger was done perfectly and the aoli matched perfectly to the flavor. The garlic fries tasted just like what they serve at SF Giants ballpark, but more crispy. Lots of choices for beers, too. Definitely a must when in gold country.

Always fresh food and an interesting menu at the restaurant. Great beers and wine list. The service is friendly and well paced. The patio is perfect on a nice afternoon or evening. One of our favorite places to eat.

The perfect combination of homey and classy. Even though you order at the counter, the table service doesn't miss a beat. Everyone is friendly and the chef often comes out to make sure you're enjoying your meal.

Chef Eric has something special going on here. From the building, Food and the incredible crew working here. All I can say is the food is worth every penny. I’m so glad we found this place and we only live 15 minutes away. I can’t wait to come back even though we just left 30 minutes ago.

Love the excellent food here. Bay area prices but also Bay area quality. Good portions. Had: fried oysters, awesome, grilled veggies, awesome last time, pretty good this time, meatballs and spaghetti, the meatballs were surprisingly good and I don't usually like meatballs!

I went here several years ago and I really enjoyed my visit. The service was amazing very hospital and the food was great. The patio was great and just relaxing with the scenery was such a nice getaway. I would go back and its worth the drive if your not from around the area. The reception is spotty so do enjoy your company because it wont be your phone.

Visited twice this month as friends came through for a long overdue visit. Both times the food was great and staff was amazing. They were super busy the second time I was there and yet they made us feel welcome and took great care. Food and service was fabulous both times!

Everything on the lunch and dinner menu is excellent. I been here 4 times having 5 different meals, lunch and dinner and have never been disappointed. With all that said, a while back there was a change made to the breakfast side of things as they only serve breakfast to those who spend the night at the Inn. Since this change has happened the breakfast selections have changed from Egg Fritta or Avocado Toast to Breakfast Burrito or Crepes. What a difference. The old selections were five star where the new selections a slightly 3 stars, and that's generous. Not sure what happened but very disappointed in the new breakfast menu. I will return for lunch and dinner but will rethink returning for an overnight stay with such a poor breakfast.

Ate at restaurant only. Food. Was delicious. We were expecting a leisurely dinner. Course delivery was too fast. Dinner was brought before our appetizers were finished. We were out in 45 minutes. It was our only criticism.

Wonderful perfume visit without crocs, it's a bit chilly in August. Body boarding is excellent... not up here though.

Had a lovely dinner with my husband. He uses a walker, so seating can sometimes be difficult. But Vic, our server, helped us find a table that was more comfortable for him than the one we had a reservation for. The food was excellent. My husband had a burger that was MASSIVE and the rigatoni bolognese I ordered was delicious; the noodles were perfectly cooked. Vic was fantastic... enthusiastically helped us navigate the menu and kept our drinks filled. Highly recommend!

We came by after visiting the cavern not too far from here, we had lunch and it was delicious! Hopefully when we visit again we'll explore more of the town to give a better detailed review but I can promise to anyone reading this the food at the Union Pub + Inn is so worth it!

Lunch at the Union Pub was amazing! The Street Tacos are bursting with flavor and add the Beet and Pear Salad for a meal that will satisfy! The staff was exceptional which completed our experience. This is our favorite place due to the fact they are consistent in presenting delicious food and excellent service.

We had dinner at the restaurant. The food and service were great. Even though there were no steaks on the menu, I still asked for one, and they delivered the best ribeye steak I've had in a long time. My partner had the salmon, and my son had the bacon cheeseburger, and they loved their dinners.

I've been coming to this location for years now and I think the new ownership is refreshing. Chef Eric puts out amazing quality of food and his specials are delicious. He really seems to be expanding his creativity lately. If you're traveling down Highway 88, definitely stop in for a delicious meal and comfortable stay!

Great food, great service. Loved the specialty sangria drink, the signature mushroom brioche and the local craft brews. Can't wait to visit again. We didn't have a reservation, but luckily we still got a table inside. I'll definitely book ahead next time so I can enjoy the outdoor dining.

Awesome place with great food and helpful friendly service. The food is always fresh and delicious. Nice setting to either dine inside on chilly days by the rock fireplace or outside when weather is nice in the charming garden area. We had the Union charbroiled cheese burger and the fresh fish and chips. Since we are locals we visit often and love the history of this quaint little mountain town.

Went to have dinner there with my wife a while ago. Good service, polite staff, great food. Moderately priced (not cheap, not too expensive) with some dinners under $20. Exceptionally clean and well-run!

Great little place! I stopped to get a bite to eat and a drink on my bike ride through the foot hills. Highly reccomend the lamb burger! It was delicious. The local IPA paired perfectly with it. It was so good I forgot to take a picture before I started eating!

A hot August day and cabin fever, combined with a yearning for family, made driving from Arnold for lunch, at The Union Inn, a healthy choice for us during this pandemic. We were so impressed with how gracious and safety aware this establishment is. We thoroughly enjoyed the patio ambiance, felt very safe and comfortable among the other patrons thanks to such conscientious (& friendly!) staff. James Walls made our dining experience especially fun! The food is absolutely wonderful, fresh & flavorful, beautifully presented, with a varied & interesting menu. If you are feeling the need for that old-fashioned “Sunday Drive” (anybody remember those??!!) with a perfectly tucked away goldmine of goodies, we couldn’t give you a better suggestion! 🥂

This is a great place to dine. The food is excellent, and the setting is "country". I'm 30 minutes away, and would eat there much more often if it were closer. 11/26/23-still a great place to dine. I just wish they had a porter beer on tap!

1100000/10!!! Soooooo cute! The mushroom starter is tooooo die for!!!! The chef came out to meet us after our dinner and was so kind! Great ambiance & food! Must visit!

I didn't get the chance to stay the night here yet, but I did get the privilege of dining here today. We tried the Korean pork tacos, lmushroom bruschetta, spicy chicken sandwich, and the wagon wheel burger. Hands down the best meal we have had in a very long time with excellent service and a beautiful atmosphere. I'd call this place a hidden gem, for sure! Giant burgers and sandos! Fries are absolutely delicious, too! The chef definitely has a great menu and great pallet. We will be back!

This review is specific to my experience at the pub. The food is spectacular but that doesn’t tell the whole story. For breakfast we were met by our server whose name is Eric. He was just a humble, kind, servant. In conversation with him we came to find out that Eric was not only our server but also the chef who runs the kitchen and the wait staff. We were blown away. The food was soooo good. While dining there I noticed pictures of him with the kitchen and wait staff. I could tell this was a tight-knit team. While having dinner there it was busy and I saw him interact with the wait-staff in a positive way. I could tell that he respects and likes his team and they feel the same about him. It all made for a super-positive vibe! This is unusual in the hospitality and restaurant world. At dinner Chef Eric asked us if we would be staying for breakfast the following morning. We told him we couldn’t stay as we had to get to work early. That night he prepared a delicious frittata, and added a scone and granola/parfait for my wife and I and had it in the hotel fridge that we could grab and go in the morning. He went way above and beyond. I will never forget his humility, kindness and true hospitality.

A local recommended The Union for dinner, and they didn't disappoint! What a gem in the middle of nowhere! Chef Erik served his own food and we chatted a little about his Korean starter on the menu. Sorry we didn't get to try that, but mushroom bruschetta is excellent! Maybe it's a seasonal thing, but they were only open Fri thru Mon (Sat & Sun lunch & dinner, Fri & Mon dinner only). We got there a bit early before the 4:30 open time and the local regulars were already forming a line 😄

My husband and I stayed here a night on our way back home on our anniversary trip. We were greeted and welcomed in late after a long day on the road. This place in and of itself is charming. But the staff here is what makes it thrive. When we came down for breakfast (included with reservation), Chef Erik welcomed and served us our meal. The food was amazing! We hung out a bit and had mimosas on the patio area. This place is so loved, there is a lot of history here. We enjoyed getting to know it in the short time we were there, and look forward to coming back. Also, the day after we left, we got a call from the friendly lady in the office (wish I remembered her name) saying they found my ring in the room after we’d left. I thought I’d lost it! So they’re sending it to us. We’re so very grateful to everyone at the Inn and look forward to another visit.

It was my 1st time, so I went for the Korean Pork tacos 🌮 & beer Amadors Carson Pass & my partner ordered the Chicken Sando w garlic fries.. We sat at the Bar & enjoyed our lunch, but they have a cool outdoor area, too. Reasonably priced so I dbl ordered the tacos! Yum! Did not stay in Hotel, but maybe a stay cation...🤔

3.5 Stars if I could. We just went for dinner and it was ok. The burgers and fries were good. My fiance really enjoyed the Ole Abe Burger. Their fries are really crispy and pair well with their house made ranch. We got a Blueberry Blush and a Huckleberry Potion to drink. The Blueberry Blush was a let down, tasted no blueberries, just rosemary and earth. The Huckleberry Potion was pretty good, the tajin rim is confusing but the drink is refreshing. For dessert we got the Bundt cake and the Basque Cake. The Bundt cake was alright, nothing special. The Basque Cake was good with the Horchata ice cream and crumble it came with. Overall maybe we'll come back again some day, but there's many other places to try in this area.

My husband and I were there on Valentine’s Day evening. It was our first visit and will not be our last. I don’t know if you usually ask your customers to come to the bar to order their food and drinks, but we both thought that was awful. The man in front of us couldn’t figure out what he wanted and we stood there, awkwardly, for quite some time. The bartender finally offered to take our drink order, but who wants to stand up at an empty bar and drink? Having to pay for our meal before we received it felt very backward and uncomfortable. There was a special menu for Valentine’s Day, but we didn’t know about it until we saw it on a little stand next to the cash register. No one ever pointed it out to us, and no one - not the woman who seated us nor the person who took our reservation on the phone - told us there would be a special menu. All I wanted to do was get back to my table - and having already looked at your menu online, I quickly ordered the Lamb Burger and went back to our table. Fortunately, that was an excellent choice! Packets of salt & pepper would have been preferable to nothing at all - and more arugula when my “salad” was nothing but arugula, was a puzzle, but the ciabatta bun and other burger contents were so delicious! Frankly, I don’t think arugula belongs on a sandwich or $20 burger. Perhaps you ran out of the real salad. My husband’s salmon was delicious though he felt the risotto was bland. So it was mostly the service part of our visit to you that fell flat. Everyone was pleasant and their smiles filled the rooms, but having us give our order to the cashier made us feel like we were in a dive. Your location is perfect for us so we hope to return soon.

Beautiful courtyard for meals, slow service, pretty good meals. Their mixed drinks are delicious but if you have a table you may need to go to the bar every time you want a drink. Their food is pretty good. Nothing to write home about but better than most in the area

The service here is very friendly. They are attentive and eager to correct any mistakes. I’m very impressed at how serious they take food allergies. With that said, eating here with food restrictions is very difficult. I can’t eat wheat or corn. I ended up having 2 choices: a bun less burger or a salad. My burger was tough, dry, and under-seasoned. The chef was very kind to swap out their normal battered fries for steak fries after I asked the server if the fries were battered (something I had asked prior to ordering). My friend’s meals seemed reasonably good, but I have no idea if they were or not because they all had wheat in them (pasta, pasta, pasta). Value: $100 for 4 seemed high considering what we ordered.

Our service was lacking ... Slow to non-existent. After appetizers, waitress never took our entree orders. Felt unless you are a recognized local, you won't be served. She had all the time to greet her friends and give them excellent service. We sat and sat...waited and waited... Awful experience. The place barely had customers at the time. Appetizers were excellent. Never got to order libations. We will not return. We went out of our way to visit this place based on "locals'" reviews. Never again. Out of towners beware! Or have the guy be your waiter. He brought our check within a minute. We could of possibly had a different experience. Good luck to others passing through.

I like the food a lot. The service I got was like I was an inconvenience the first time I was there. Friends forced me to eat there again. This experience was excellent. I even got to go to lunch with my dog there. That is if I sat outside. Nice outside eating area. $$$$$ Bring a good card! UPDATE: December 2025, I had a wonderful meal with my wife. Food excellent! My wife had a chicken plate, and I had the pork special. I got a puppy paddy for the dog, and my wife had a drink from the bar as I drank iced tea. $91.00! I almost choaked! Are you kidding me! The food was good, but not that good. And the dining room was as noisy as a truck stop. I will not go back.
