I tried Whiskey River for the first time today. I reserved a table for my party (not required). I arrived, was greeted, and shown to our table. The server was on par with drinks, food, and anything we asked for. From the food to our drinks, the presentation and taste were exceptional. Come and enjoy dinner/lunch at Whiskey Cake.
The wait staff was great. Waiter understood what we were looking for in whiskey and had great suggestions for the build your own flight. As hard as Pappy is to find in Texas it was nice to see it available for flight. Not the best steak I have ever had from a Whiskey Cake. A little underwhelmed with the flavor and the cook.
Dorian was a great server, very attentive and friendly. Food was absolutely delicious! We had the goat cheese fondue (not pictured) and the bone in porkchop, and the rooster royale. so so so good!
The food was very good quality and prepared well. Service was friendly and efficient. Large selection of high-end whiskey. Definitely worth a return visit.
I ordered Steak Fritz (34$) plus some drink and it was perfect, one of the best meat I’ve tried in the USA.
I went here with my partner at 6:00 pm on a Saturday. It was busy, but we had a reservation. The restaurant decor is cute and unique. We started off with the Goat Cheese Fondue. Both me and my partner liked it. I got a bubbly wine. It stayed bubbly for a long time which is important to me when ordering a bubbly wine. For our main course I got the Chicken and Waffles and my partner got a burger, both were very good. I don't have pictures because we ate them too fast! For dessert we got the Whiskey Cake. This was delicious, even the whipped cream tasted great and they give you a lot! Our waitress was very nice and we gave her a $20 tip. Our bill was about $80 before the tip. This was a great place for date night, but I also saw a lot of families there with children too.
This establishment consistently ranks among my top choices for an exceptional dining experience. I recently introduced my daughter to this venue for her inaugural visit. We savored expertly prepared steaks and beverages. Additionally, we indulged in the renowned Whiskey Cake, a meticulously crafted, scratch-made dessert that proved to be truly outstanding. I wholeheartedly recommend it!
Everything was great! I was a little on the fence when my wife wanted the GOAT cheese fondue app, when they brought it to the table they mashed the garlic into the cheese with the tomatoes and it comes with local bread. I think it was the best app I’ve ever had. They had candles at the table you could light. I mean it was just a really good restaurant.
Had a party of 13 for lunch celebrating my daughter’s college graduation. Made the reservation over 2 months ago, mentioned I needed 2 high chairs but the hostess wanted to sit us at a high top bar table, or outside where it was muggy and hot and previously raining. Quick conversation with the manager and he was very accommodating and put us at a great table. Eva was our server and did she ever! Took care of the whole table (with help from other servers to bring out all the entrees and appetizers). Gave my daughter a congratulatory dessert (the famous whiskey cake!) we ended up sharing-it’s sooo good! Gave her generous tip, she deserved it. I appreciate the wonderful service and our food and drinks were fresh and delicious. Money is not something I play around with in these times so I appreciate the effort and service we received. Will definitely be back when able.
1st visit! The start was a little slow, but WOW! This place finished with a Bang!! Outstanding! Service was excellent and their attention to details is incredible...they supplied out cloth napkins to refresh your hands...a must after having a dripping BBQ sauce chicken sandwich. Now the food... impressive. I ordered the chicken sandwich with homemade chips...this is definitely a must. My daughter had the Ceaser salad, she is a connoisseur on this and she was impressed. My wife had the Ruben sandwich, she knows Rubens and she said it was a re-order item in the future.
No complaints! The atmosphere was great, the service was excellent, and the food was phenomenal. We went on a Saturday, during brunch hour. Items ordered: Ruby Slippers Mocktail (tasty) Goat Cheese Fondue (rich) Farmers Breakfast (filling & fresh) The Shortstack (fluffy) Shrimp & Grits (creamy)
We went for brunch. The service was great and the food was good. The food wasn't something super amazing or incredibly better than other brunch places but it was good. The farmers breakfast was basic eggs, potatoes, fruit and bacon. The bacon was thick cut which is cool but they only give you 1 slice. I feel like you should get two slices for an $18 plate. The chicken and waffles were good but again....just basic chicken tenders with a waffle. It came with eggs though so that was nice. Now the drinks were definitely good. Everyone at our table had a different drink from their specialty menu and they looked and tasted great.
Visited Whiskey Cake for the second time and everything is still top tier. As I am currently sitting at a booth Bailey P. Is absolutely very attentive, knows the menu and has recommended really great items so far. I originally came in for the fried green tomatoes because they are my favorite plus very fresh . I ended up trying something different today . Will include pictures from both visits both within a month plus my receipt. Thank you for the great service, fresh food and relaxing atmosphere. New REVIEW 4/13/25 : No exaggeration have not had a bad experience ! Vivian was absolutely amazing . She recommended a very good alcoholic whiskey beverage with a slight coffee taste sweet (not an espresso martini) . Food was excellent ..flavors went so well together it truly will be my new favorite . I took pictures don’t remember names for anything.
Whiskey Cake Kitchen & Bar is an absolute gem! From the moment I walked in, the vibe was warm and welcoming. The rustic-chic decor and open kitchen concept really set the tone for a great experience. I ordered the Mushroom Pasta with Chicken and an a Espresso Martini, both were spot on. The ingredients taste fresh, and you can tell they put thought into every dish. And of course, the whiskey cake itself is a must-try—easily one of the best desserts I’ve had in a long time. Our server was super friendly and knowledgeable, offering great drink recommendations. Whether you’re grabbing drinks with friends or going out for a date night, this place hits the mark. Highly recommend!
This was such a a great experience. First off, I was enamoured by the cool rustic atmosphere. I am going to build a small bar/kitchen in my home to mimic this vibe 😂 Everything about it was cool, down to the lit candles in the bathroom. The food is made from scratch! First I had the meat and cheese board 😋 it was so good, every ounce of cheese and bread and crackers and honey and whiskey sauce was delicious. I then had the French Onion Burger which was so good, the meat was cooked perfectly and the bun was something I've never had before, homemade and delicious. The fries were good and the in house ketchup was good. Also has the mushroom campanelle 🔥 But to top it all off, the Whiskey Cake... 🤤 So freaking good. The slight spice from the spiced pecans was something that worked so well with the rest of the cake. I can't tell you enough how good the food was and how cool the atmosphere is. Highly recommend this spot and it's my new #1 spot to recommend to everyone.

This is a wonderful restaurant with many great food choices but the Chicken and Waffles is a must, followed by the whiskey cake dessert.

I've really liked Whiskey Cake in the past. The servers are always great and the food is tasty. Two small issues though: The past few menus have had less and less vegetarian options which is sad. Would love to see more options here again. Additionally, last time we were there the hostess asked for name and phone number before seating us. I assumed it was for a waitlist but instead she immediately sat us. So it seems likely that it was solely to get my info for their system which kind of feels like a trick. If they were upfront and gave you an option to opt in or not, I'd have no issue with this. Again these are small issues in an overall pleasant dining experience.
Started off great with fried green tomatoes as appetizers, couldn't have cooked better myself. The grits came out room temp and cheese not melted. Pretty good still. Biscuits and gravy were super as I'm told was the millionaire bacon. Only complaint is when I order a beverage and it isn't kept refilled. She server even said she was going to but didn't. On a not very busy Saturday before noon, that's a fail. Overall, enjoyable, but nothing to write home about.
We ordered Steak Frites for $34 and what we got is very large portion of potato fries and few slice of beef. It must be a joke compared to Texas Roast House top quality Prime Steak $27. The waitress provided the worst service I have ever experienced. We did not order Roasted Garlic Hummus and for some reason she add that to our order and when she brings that to us and we told her we did not order that. She simply brings it back without apologies. The worst is she send us check without taking off that order. Upon that time we have to wait for her for about 10 minutes until she is showing up and to correct that and still no apology. Even that, we still pay her 15% tips. In my opinion, she deserves no tips. Hope she will improve the service quality. Overall, food quality and pricing are not right. After I posted my review, I got offered a chance to directly communication Wes who is also an assistance of general manager. I am pleased and impressed the management takes this very seriously to try to improve their service and food quality. I hope I will revisit this restaurant during coming holiday season again. For now, I change my overall rating from 1 Star to 4 Star. Thanks Wes.
This was our first dining experience here... Celebrated my birthday on the pet-friendly patio with my hubby & our furbaby. 🥳 Our server, Leah S., was awesome...very attentive and patient. Our libations were phenomenal, I had a Boo-Berry Pie, my hubby had a Monkey Shoulder. We both took advantage of Social Hour and each had a Old Fashioned. Kudos to the Bartender!👍🏽 Appetizers were pretty good, just a little skimpy. We ordered the devil eggs and spinach & artichoke dip. I have to be honest and mention we weren't really pleased with our dinner, either. We wanted the Yarbird, but they were out so we both ordered the Wood Grilled Salmon. The fish could've been grilled just a tad bit more and something was just off about the plate presentation. We also ordered addt'l sides and still felt things were off. 🤔I'm a Home Chef, so I'm giving my expert opinion on quality and presentation 🍽 😅 Eventhough the food wasn't to our liking, the Whiskey Cake w/ the spiced pecans & fresh whipped cream was AAAHMAAAZING!!! 🤤 Overall, we had a nice dinner experience. We'll try the location in Stafford, TX next time, which is close to our home.
Went here for a late lunch, which was cool. Looked busier outside but chill and quiet inside. The service was good. At times between visits, it felt like a while, not busy like I said. As far as the food, my only complaint (mentioned to the server) that the vegetables on both ain dishes were basically raw and warmed to heat, really hard and tough. Other than that, great! We had the hummus & veggies and the brussel sprouts for appetizers. The fish/chips (subbed with veggies, like I mentioned) and roasted farm bird were the main courses. The fish was super crispy & flaky, huge too! The chicken had a great marinade/seasoning and cooked perfectly! The jus at the bottom was nice and kept the bird super juicy! Dessert was the famous "whiskey cake".... get it!! (For sharing 😯)
When we arrived early evening there were many empty tables but were quoted a 20-25 minute wait time by a rude hostess. I have no problem waiting as I'm sure they were understaffed, but ended up…
The Food was really good but it was a little expensive, the server ce was really good and the food was good but the menu was limited to maybe 20 items.

Fun dinner. Quoted 30 minute wait but was sat within 5 for two people. Good food (the Brussels sprouts were amazing). service was nice. Was out of their seasonal dessert which was a bummer.

The food and service was great, the expediter was new and a bit confused but tried hard. The dessert, whiskey cake, was amazing. The place was a bit loud but that is the norm in Texas.
Great liquor options. Service was very good. Enjoyed the comfortable ambience. Certainly a different type of options on the menu, but the ribeye and mashed celery/potato was good.

1st time visit for a birthday lunch. A very nice restaurant in and out. They have fresh herbs and plants everywhere. The service was fast and polite. The drinks took a minute but were great and honestly saved the visit. The food was bland. The hummus was the best thing we had. I got the chicken chop salad $16 + $3 for fried chicken instead of grill. ONE chicken tender on a half plate for 19 dollars is absurd. The steak looked lovely but had absolutely no flavor. The birthday girl praised the burger. The atmosphere is nice and the server was awesome but the food was just not memorable and overpriced.
The cake was awesome!! The service and food were not!! Overpriced!! I was hyped up to go to Whiskey Cakes, but it was a big disappointment!

The atmosphere is nice, not overly bright. The food took longer than expected. But it was very tasty.
Unfortunately tonight, our service was bad. The food was good, but the bad service ruined the visit. We drive over from Beaumont to eat. Not cool!
Service and atmosphere was really good. I enjoyed the moment until we received the food. Food was missing flavor, it felt like something I can cook at home but I'll could make it with more flavor. Limited menu options, overpriced and over rated. Seems like their specialty are the drinks(and they are delicious). Our ticket was high, but honestly I rater spend that amount of money at fogo de Chao than here. Desert was delicious. They have a lot of rivals, but as a customer, i feel like they are losing the battle because of their over priced food with the lack of flavor.
Listen to the reviews about the chili. What a waste of money. Service was fine. Waiter came to see how we were doing, my husband said we were done and he walks away. We had to call him back for the check. Service wasn't bad, it was just fine. Food was terrible. Drinks were good. I won't be returning, my husband didn't like his burger either but at least he was able to finish it.
African American family walks in with a reservation and was told to wait 20 minutes to sit with visibly empty tables. Asked about empty tables and was told they are for other reservations!
I was very disappointed in our most recent experience at whiskey cake. We went for my mom’s birthday and the experience was sub par. Waiter was excellent, it was totally out of his control. Bar took 20+ minutes to make out cocktails, sprite was flat. We let the waiter know, it came out the second time flat again. Appetizer came and was gone and drinks still hadn’t come out. Main dish was ok, nothing special. Potatoes came out cold. The kitchen remade them, but we were all full and done eating before they even made it to the table. This used to be one of my favorite restaurants, definitely not what it used to be. Can’t say we will return, there are better options in the area.
