Recensioni di Lola's New Orleans
We are from the Houston area and we’re excited to try Lola’s. My job on any trip is to scout restaurants that serve mussels. Lola’s did not disappoint although I have to say that the garlic shrimp was tasty. The paella was deceptively generous and we both have leftovers. Midnight snacks
This place is exceptional. From the quality and quantity of food to their service, it is well worth the short drive out of the more pedestrian-heavy part or New Orleans. It is highly recommended for anyone seeking authentic Spanish cuisine. The meat paella is on point. The sangria may actually be the best I have had. Be warned, though, seating can be sparse. Arriving at 6:30 on a Monday evening, we were seated almost immediately but at the time we left, there were no unfilled tables. There are nine tables in total. Do not take reservations.
The service here is great. Well worth the wait, which you should expect to do for a table in their very small dining area. Great vegan options including a delicious spread for the bread and several small plates, soups, and entrees. They need to bottle and sell their spicy sauce! Make sure you ask for some with your paella... or anything, really.
Lola's is so amazing! I loved this restaurant before this crazy time, but I'm so grateful that they've offered carry-out/delivery since everything has been shut down in the city. The food was EXCELLENT as always, and omg the pistollotes with the homemade garlic aioli, good lord that should be illegal. Also, the food arrived SUPER hot, which I was so excited about. Can't tell you how many times we've ordered from places closer that are on Uber eats and it's been soggy and cold. We love this place!
Friendly staff. They sat us on the owner’s porch while we waited for our table. Waitress was attentive and friendly. We had a party of 8 and everyone was served promptly. We ordered 2 extra large paellas, ceviche, garlic shrimp, sangria and the combination desert and everything was delicious. The outside setup facing Esplanade Ave. was excellent...and best of all, we brought our favorite wine.
I stopped here on a recommendation of the local, on my bicycle tour from Canada to Argentina. They have a nice little patio. Great if you have a dog with you. The server was great too. I didn't have to make any choices myself. He was quick with a drink and food recommendation, and came around when needed. He seemed to know when food was in my mouth and never bothered me then. The garlic soup and brussel sprout special was pretty darn good. The garlic soup exceeding my expectations. I got the one person paella was a little on the small side. Although I'm a big eater, so it may be alright for some. Definitely worth checking out.
Lola's was absolutely one of the best restaurants here in New Orleans. I have nothing to complain about. Every dish that was served was amazing. The staff was extraordinary. The food does take a while to be prepared and serve but this just give you more time for good conversation, hand crafted drinks and people watching. If you're in New Orleans for just a split of a second and in need of a amazing Spanish experience without leaving the country; give Lola's a try.
We came to Lola's for a double date. I made a reservation ahead of time and said we preferred outdoor seating. We were seated early on their beautiful patio with a. View of Esplanade ave. We had two bottles of sangria and shared some tapas, paella, and dessert. I loved the sangria! I thought it had a great balance of wine and brandy. The tapas were delicious! We had the charcuterie, ceviche, and garlic shrimp. The garlic shrimp was my favorite - I couldn't stop dipping my bread in that sauce! We ordered the seafood paella which was tasty. The 3 tapas and a medium paella was the perfect amount for the 4 of us. For dessert, we ordered the flourless chocolate cake and some almond nougat ice cream. The chocolate cake was amazing!! We really enjoyed sitting on the patio and the service was wonderful. We'd definitely come back!
Made a reservation for Monday night. My friend and I just missed happy hour, but we got dinner service, which was wonderful. Everyone was so friendly. The drinks were very strong. Food was good, I had the duck with mashed potatoes and asparagus, and my friend got the tuna with rice and mixed veggies. It's small, but quaint, and cozy.
We really enjoyed Lola’s for a laid back night out. The food was great. The sautéed garlic shrimp appetizer was excellent. The lentil soup was good; great flavors, wish it was a little larger though. The Garlic Chicken is a generous portion of chicken, with some white rice and very well prepared veggies. Would def order again. Others enjoyed the trout and duck! Thanks for having us
Lola’s has brunch now! I’ve lived in the neighborhood for a few years now and I was delighted to discover they’ve started a brunch service on the weekends. Everything was incredible and our server, Courtney, took very good care of us. I highly recommend the Persian Love Cake Waffles and the Shrimp & Grits. I also ordered a Paloma and enjoyed the breakfast potatoes. The ambiance is beautiful and the presentation and balance of flavors was incredible. The best shrimp and grits I’ve eaten in recent memory!
This place was great. The combination paella was worth the 45 minute wait. 10/10. The older gentleman was so sweet. The paella for 2 was very fulfilling and we still had more than half to take to go.
George was an amazing server! He made the best recommendations on the menu. He was also very funny and charming! Oh, and the food was phenomenal!! The garlic shrimp and mussels were superb! The duck was delicious and cooked perfectly!
I had dinner here tonight, and needed to write about my experience. I walked in at 5:30 without a reservation, and was able to get a seat at the bar. I ordered a Paloma while I looked at the menu, and decided to order the vegetarian paella and lentil soup. Felicia was serving behind the bar, was delightful to talk to, and made a delicious drink! The paella took a bit to prepare, and I was glad to have the soup, but it was totally worth the wait. I will be returning soon, and highly recommend Lola’s.
I've been here several times, and the services and food are always excellent. The atmosphere is lovely, chill, and inviting. The wait staff is always kind, friendly, and welcoming to the restaurant. Lola's is easily a nice, pleasant place to get some excellent food and fantastic drinks.
My boyfriend and I love to eat at Lola’s whenever we’re visiting NOLA. The paella is unmatched. The bread is delicious! They are straight up about the paella taking about 40 minutes, which we didn’t mind. We’ve had the duck before, which was also spectacular. Definitely recommend Lola’s if you’re looking for the best paella and some satisfying outside eating vibes! I would also recommend making a reservation and expect to be seated outside if the weather is nice due to there being more seating outside than inside.
An absolutely fantastic experience all around. Lola's has a lovely date atmosphere. I was so immersed in my experience that I had to go back the next day and retrieve my credit card.
My partner and I came here for an anniversary dinner. The vibes were immaculate - you can't beat the beauty of the Oaks on Esplanade. The service was also excellent - our server was kind, patient, and well timed. These reviews that say it took a long time must just not have any patience - this isn't fast food! The food was delicious, everything cooked to perfection. The wine was excellent and the white sangria was a beautiful sweet treat. Will definitely be back. Highly recommend for romantic dinner dates.
We had an unforgettable date night at Lola’s! The service was outstanding, and sitting at a cozy sidewalk table made the evening feel even more special. The Lotus Margarita was refreshing and beautifully crafted—highly recommend! The civiche was the freshest I’ve ever had, bursting with vibrant citrus and perfectly balanced flavors. And the seafood paella? Absolutely divine—cooked to perfection, richly seasoned, and a true celebration of both Spanish and Creole influences. Lola’s is a gem in New Orleans. If you're looking for a unique, flavorful, and welcoming dining experience, this place should be at the top of your list!
Tried Lola’s for the first time last night. The food, staff, and atmosphere were all wonderful! Highly recommend!
Just GO! We arrived and the hostess was kind enough to make space for us to be seated inside. The vibes were cute, quaint, and intimate. Our waitress, CiCi, was the most kind, sweet, and attentive waitress. Her little Dallas accent was so cute! Order the ceviche, you won’t regret it; I will literally be dreaming about it for weeks, and we ended up getting the paella that also, was to DREAM about. When I tell y’all the seafood was all cooked to PERFECTION! Best paella I have EVER had!! I absolutely will be back one thousand times, and dream about this place over and over until I return.
Absolutely delighted with this spot! The food was incredible and the atmosphere was low key and fun. Will definitely be back!
An old feeling to a new day. Loved the ambiance and the location. Great food, new age original drinks. I'll be back for sure.
Small Neighborhood Restaurant with exceptional service and Food. Rack of Lamb was excellent. Garlic sauteed Mushrooms were amazing. Gazpacho was the best I have ever eaten. Prices were very reasonable. Going back before we go home. Very rare do we visit the same restaurant twice while on vacation. That is how much we enjoyed Lola's.
We’ve been in town for just a week and have been to Lola’s twice, with a third reservation for this upcoming Sunday. The brunch menu is amazing. The short rib is huge and melted in my mouth. Truffle grits are divine. Beautiful presentation. Off the regular menu, the lamb chops were cooked to perfection- the flavor - can’t say enough about our experience. Cocktails are first rate. There were four of us last night and we all walked away 100 percent delighted love love love this restaurant.
Service was absolutely amazing. Food was delicious, enjoyed every bit. Loved the way the waitress checked to see if everything was good. The owner even came over to introduce herself. Very quaint and family oriented atmosphere. Highly recommend.
Absolutely fabulous. The paella was my fav! Big portions. Cocktails were strong and superb. Very nice atmosphere. Cute and so cozy.
Had dinner on a Friday night. We felt like we had stepped into a starry night in a foreign country. The Brussel sprouts had an unpredictable pleasing kick. The appetizer garlic infused shrimp was delish and the red sangria did not disappoint. Go for a 12 or 14 oz to enjoy. Highlight of evening - our hostess Maria. Her unassuming attentiveness to our needs and generous warmth was on point. Adding it to my list of favorite local gems ❤️🔥
Lola's is a lovely, comfortable atmosphere, with outstanding service and delicious food, all at a reasonable price. We had the Crabmeat Tropical - as delicious to eat as it was beautiful to look at, the garlic mushrooms, the gazpacho and Seafood Paella. It's difficult to pick a 'favorite'. Everything was absolutely perfectly prepared and delightful. I also have to compliment the awesome service we received. On a scale of 1-10, she was a 20! I highly recommend Lola's for an exceptional experience.
Had a wonderful birthday brunch celebration; the food was exquisite, the cocktails were awesome, and the service from the entire staff was one of the best. I will definitely be going back in the future.
Love the ajo Blanco
La gente es muy amable
A bodega in a shotgun house. Open kitchen let's you see the magic as it's made. Ceviche was so so good. Citrus, shrimp, mahi mahi, and house made chips. Nom! Also tried the Ajoblanco, aka almond soup. It's a creamy cold almond concoction that works great at the beginning or the end of a meal. Try the lamb stew! Spicy, rich, delicious! Paella is the specialty and while good, I found it too dry. I was missing the saucey juices that the rice is cooked in.
Would not call this restaurant purely Spanish, would say meditterenean is a better description. Firstly they could not find our confirmed reservation, due to overbooking. We got a table on the sidewalk which is better than sitting inside, but a tad uncomfortable. Our order was taken but was not passed on to the kitchen, so we had to order twice and received our meal almost 1h 20 min later. The waiter did apologize. The paella was quite good and so was the shrimp pasta, although i would like the portion to be slightly bigger.
Great food but service was ok. We ordered the paella with seafood and meat, only got the seafood. Sangria ordered a carafe receive a half one (at least smaller to the table next to it). No coffee available and sent us to a closed place down the street.
Dinner for 2. The food was amazing. The host, George was exceptional! Our waitress was lacking in attention and detail; fortunately, George noticed and filled in the gaps. Each of our first preferences for drinks were not available, despite inclusion on the menu. Outside seating was beautiful, yet definitely needed more lighting. Lights in trees were not functioning. To summarize, the establishment has room to improve, but I highly recommend it for the quality of the food.
Delicious food! The calamari was so tender and the garlic shrimp so flavorful you will need many bread to sop up the juice. The paella is good only thing I hoped is the crisp on the rice which we didn't get, otherwise would give it a 5 star. Waiter was super friendly. Will highly recommend this place.
Tapas appetizers for sharing is a bit overstated, but for two it may be just right (there were three in our party). We had mushrooms, ceviche, and calamari. Mushroom portion was kind of sparse; ceviche was ample (like an ice cream scoop size with chips); calamari was enough for the three of us to have a few slivers, so not too bad. Veggie paella was quite good. My wife and I shared the "medium" portion. A bit pricey for rice and veggies but, like I said, it was quite tasty. We had a slice of the chocolate cake as well as a flan for dessert. Both were good, nothing eye-popping but a nice way to conclude the meal. Atmosphere was quaint, though crowded (Friday night at 7). Upon arrival, we were told that our reservation would be seating outside (ugh). We inquired about indoor seating and were accommodated, so that was a plus. Our server, Cassie, was attentive and helpful. All in all, a nice experience and I'm glad we were able to try Lola's for our first time.
When sitting outside, the bugs will carry you away. The servers tables were spread so far that they couldn't pay attention to their tables. Sections are best for multitasking. It took forever to get drinks. Drink them slow or you'll be waiting until they close for the second. I thought my credit card was going to expire before they ran it.
Lola's was a bit of a mixed bag for my wife and myself. Outdoors in the spring and fall is wonderful for dining in New Orleans and this meal was no different. We didn't have any issues with the host. However, the wait staff seemed inexperienced but that didn't lead to any major problems. I started with the green mussels. I've eaten mussels for many years but I was not aware of the green variety. In a nutshell, they're larger than the black (normal) variety but unfortunately their consistency is comparable to chewing gum. As someone who almost choked on a normal mussel, I found the experience rather worrying. In addition, I didn't like the flavor of the house vinegrette. My wife had the "crabmeat tropical" which was very good. I had planned to share a paella with her but she was full after the large appetizer so I opted for the rainbow trout which was properly cooked and very good. Drinks-wise, my wife had the white sangria (which she liked) and I had an expensive German lemon spritz (since there was no IPA) that I didn't finish.
Ceviche was amazing. Seafood paella was good but way too spicy. Menu does not mention it being a spicy dish, couldnt eat much due to the spiciness
The Paella is flavorless. I found myself at a prominent New Orleans restaurant eating food that failed to expose any kind of exceptionality. The crab and guac appetizer is unoriginal and very boring. The cheese platter is average and came with week old grapes. The build-up to the paella was, i’ll admit, suspenseful, but the food itself failed on so many levels. I couldve better spent my time chewing on cardboard. The only saving grace in the restaurant is the freshly made bread that tastes like a warm cloud. I will also admit the staff was very friendly, probably because they hadn’t tasted the disappointing paella.
This place is good so its hard to only rate a ⭐⭐⭐. The food tasted fresh and the Sangria was one of the better ones in NOLA. The ambiance is good but due to COVID-19 you might be sat under a tree outside wondering if something may drop on you or your food.👀😜. The service was good but felt a little rushed(not just an issue here). The one thing that got me was if you're undable to process credit cards due to whatever, guest who have reservations should be notified ahead of time. A quick message or call so i can stop at the bank before hand and not use some random ATM for a fee. Not a big issue but things like that is what sets business from each other. The little things. Also, not everyone has Venmo. 🤷🏽♂️👴 But overall, you will not be disappointed with this place. We had an enjoyable time and would return. 👍👍
Unfortunately, besides our great server and delicious dishes, my experience was not great. The hostess was a bit dismissive and insisted our reservation didn't exist even when we showed the receipt, which meant we couldn't sit outside and enjoy the beautiful New Orleans fall weather like we had reserved. Inside, the restaurant was freezing and then got so smoky from the open kitchen that our eyes burned. The tables were tiny and our giant menus knocked everything over. Portions are very small for the price, both for drinks and food.
The place is super cute. I walk past it a lot so we decided to check it out. Our experience was “meh”. I got a salad and fiancé got duck breast. He was very disappointed in the portion of the duck for what we paid. About 6 pieces of duck for 30$. It lacked flavor as well. If it was the best duck we wouldn’t have minded the price. The meal was basically mashed potatoes with a side of duck breast. My salad also had quite a bit pieces of bad lettuce in it which made me not want to finish it. When I’m paying 15$ for a simple Ceaser salad I shouldn’t have to pick through it. Very much fell short of our expectations. Staff was very friendly however and the restaurant is cute.
The brussel sprouts and the fettuccine is really toooo salty… the squid and paella are great!
Looks great, nice neighborhood, good food, but not great food (canned whipped cream on the dessert?) For what they charge, it should be better. Our waiter was friendly but disinterested and unconvincing in his recommendations. Also the tables wobble, are sticky, and slide all over the floor. Seems a shame no one cares enough to do anything about that.
I was expecting more from my meal at Lola's based on the great reviews. It was disappointing on all fronts: food, service, and atmosphere. Especially for the price. We got the brussels sprouts veggie tapas, and we didn't care for the flavor at all. For the main course, we got the duck breast and seafood paella. The duck breast was tasty, but presentation was very poor. Also, it was served with only 3 asparagus stems. The mashed potatoes were just okay. The seafood paella was tasty, but I've had better. The wine was great. The service was slow -- it took a while to get our second round of wine, and we didn't get the sharing plates we asked for. The atmosphere was poor overall. We chose indoor dining so we could be warmer, but the AC blasts very cold so we had to wear our coats. I was uncomfortable enough to ask them to turn the air down, but they said no because then the kitchen would get too hot. Also, we were seated at a table with a bench that is not cushioned. The bench was also too low, and the back cushion kept falling into the gap between the bench and the wall. In addition, the place was kinda dusty and generally the furnishings were poor quality. Visually the place is beautiful, but the discomfort and lack of quality outweighs that.
The atmosphere is very good, cozy but the food, at least the dish I ordered, lamb, came cold and had a very ordinary flavor, nothing extraordinary. Cold food is not good at all, the rice besides being cold seemed reheated.
The 1st time we went to Lola's, it was exceptional! Food was perfect and so tasty. We chose Lola's to celebrate our recent engagement and were so excited to have some amazing food to go with our excitement. We ended up waiting over an hour for our food, which was totally expected as it was the week of a holiday, and we were told when we ordered the pork and a combination paella. However the food came out dry and lacking flavor. Very much like it had been rushed to be cooked and then left under the heat lamps for far too long. Needless to say we were less than thrilled with our experience. The waitress was attentive and the wine and cocktails were good. Hopefully this was just a fluke and its better if we decide to go back.
Paella was great. Not really a tapas place. The Brussel sprouts were in the same sauce as the shrimp, weird. I’m okay with the place charging for bread and being cashless, but adding a fee for using card when there is no alternative isn’t cool. Just raise the menu prices.
My cousins took me here since I'm out of town. It was highly recommended. Unfortunately, it was quite the disappointment. We ordered 3 pasta dishes and waited 45 minutes for them to come out. We watched paella dishes come out to customers seated well after us. When we asked what was taking so long, our waiter Casey offered no apology or reason, just assurance that they were being plated right away. It was at least another 10 minutes of waiting. They were plated sloppily. Both entrees and appetizers (soup) were heavily salted. I do not recommend Lola's.
I really wanted to love this restaurant, but I have never been treated so poorly when dining out with my family. I had a reservation on April 25, 2023 at 8:30 PM. My husband and I decided to try a new local restaurant because we just found out we were expecting our first child a few days prior. I got home a little bit later than normal from my job and realized we would be showing up 5 to 10 minutes after our reservation time to the restaurant. I called and let them know. I understood that the restaurant was only open for so much longer after our allotted time, so I asked them if it would be better if I canceled and rescheduled my reservation. The woman on the phone said I was completely fine to still come in even if I showed up 5 to 10 minutes after my reservation time. We showed up exactly 5 minutes after our reservation. We walked in to a very cold greeting from the staff. They all just looked at us like we were inconveniencing them and one of them finally begrudgingly showed us to a table. We overheard two of the young ladies who are servers trash talking my husband and I. Asking each other why we would even bother showing up if we made a reservation so late at night? Mind you we weren’t showing up five minutes before closing. We showed up almost 2 hours before closing. Both my husband and I have worked in the service industry before we ended up working in our careers. so this type of behavior is completely unacceptable. No excuses. After waiting for several minutes, someone finally came over and greeted us. Again, a very cold and poor greeting. My husband and I ordered water to be easy and then we both wanted to start off with salads. My husband wanted a Caesar salad and the server told told my husband to order an easier salad to make because they didn’t want to have to take everything out to make a Caesar salad. Excuse me? How extremely unprofessional. Then got upset when I ordered paella. Asked me if I knew that it was going to take 30 to 45 minutes to cook it, and I said that I knew that. The pie was the whole reason I wanted to come to the restaurant. After you hearing the kitchen curse and slam things down very loudly after putting my order in. We genuinely felt so uncomfortable. After finally receiving our food, out of courtesy, we took a few bites of our meal and then immediately asked for a box. Disgustingly unprofessional. The food was good. I am attaching the pictures of my husband and I entrées below. Even eating the leftovers felt disgusting because we could not get over how badly we were treated. Even after all of this, we still left over a 20% tip because, again, we were both servers and understand what it is like. This was the first time in both of our lives that we actually considered not tipping at all. We will never return back and have warned other people of our experience at this place. You never know what people are going through behind closed doors. It takes absolutely nothing to show kindness to another person. After experiencing so many health problems and finally being able to conceive a child, we just wanted to have a beautiful night out together and celebrate. The night was ended with tears and disbelief at the amount of disrespect we received from complete strangers. Do better.
I lived in Spain for a bit and ever since I couldn’t stop thinking about the paella. I passed by this restaurant and absolutely loved the tables outside and the atmosphere inside the place. The serverwas wonderful and she answered any questions we had. I was really bummed about the food. The paella was too soggy and the other dishes were too salty. I hope it was just a bad night at Lola’s because it sure felt special
The paella was very good, the service was not. Had reservations. Seated fairly promptly, but waited more than 15 mins after seating for someone to talk to us and that was only after going back to host and asking, and then another 5 minute wait. Staff seems indifferent to customers and annoyed that they had customers. They were more concerned with talking with each other near the kitchen and ignored any attempts at getting their attention. Food lacked detail on serving. A simple tomato basil didnt have the basil and they were surprised that it should be included; however, they did at least provide for us to add when we requested. The saving grace was the paella, but the service has really deteriorated. Full of staff, but only a few were attentive and we werent the lucky ones. They would have made 2 times as much by just coming to the table and enabling ordering of drinks, desserts or other items. As this has been noted by multiple reviews, it is sad that a New Orleans restaurant has deteriorated this far.
Paella was bad. Seafood overcooked, no saffron, so salty as to be inedible. Kind of unbelievable that this place is so highly rated.
We made reservations for an outdoor meal here with high expectations that just weren't met. The host was polite and friendly, so we were off to a good start. We enjoyed the garlic mushrooms, but our server explained the wine I wanted to order wasn't cold yet (for whatever reason) and recommended a different wine. I appreciated the heads-up, and I enjoyed the wine. We chose this restaurant because paella is one of their specialty items, and we ordered the seafood paella. That's when our whole dining experience took a hard wrong turn. The paella didn't have the traditional crust on the bottom, but that's not unusual in restaurants, so I decided to be fine with that. However, it quickly became clear that more than half the shrimp in the dish had not been deveined. We pointed this out to our server, and he tried to convince us that this was "just the recipe" the chef used. Then he switched it up to say the shrimp was too small to devein, even though some of it clearly had been. No matter what we said, he insisted this was just the way the dish was made. A $50 dish with uncleaned shrimp?! When we pointed out that the vein is the digestive tract of the shrimp and we prefer not to eat shrimp waste, he said he had no idea that was the case. Then, he suggested we order the veggie paella in the future if we don't want to eat poop. (I'll pass.) Finally, our server brought out the check without asking if we wanted dessert or anything else. At no point did he offer to make the terrible meal right in any way. (An apology for our subpar experience would have sufficed.) We won't be giving this restaurant a second chance.
I was very disappointed about this place. As someone that grew up in Spain, I have to say there was nothing really authentically Spanish here. We ordered the antipasto and just look at the picture. There was no real Spanish chorizito, no Manchego cheese and no jamón Serrano. All these were Italian cheap products. If you are looking for a real authentic Spanish restaurant, this is not the place. Service and atmosphere were not bad.
great food, atrocious service. very nice paella, lots of good seafood. great ceviche appetiser. soso crabmeat. meh Sangria. but the service was abysmal. we wont be back. $180 for 2. OK - you (Owner) wanted more feedback, so here we geaux: we (2) had a reservation arrived on time were seated immediately carafe of water in front of us FROM THERE it went downhill: we sat for 20min the waitress never so much as looked at us for the entire evening when she served the 2nd table that got seated after us, I decided to intervene I got up and walked over to the male server - if I remember wright his name is Mateo “can we order a drink while we wait for service?” “nobody has talked to you?” “no” “the female is supposed to take care of you” Mateo said. (3 servers total, 1 male, 2 female) he took our drink orders. they arrived in minutes (Sangria = meh, Albariño) = ok Mateo took our food orders Apps arrived shortly Crabmeat = meh, stale crostini Ceviche = very nice, fresh, citrusy - a highlight Paella arrived after 45min, just as promised. very nice, large amount and diversity of seafood. I asked for a doggy bag for the remaining rice, which was promptly delivered. Then came the moment that pushed me over the edge: “Is there anything else you need?” No: “how was everything? did you leave room for desert?” no. No: “tonite we have some dessert specials…” No: “maybe a coffee?” to the Owner: not once after getting seated did we feel welcome. Mateo served us begrudgingly. as becomes blatantly obvious with his last remark. If your server staff does not get along, let the weaker go, and hire someone with competence and gusto, that knows that this is a service BUSINESS, and acts accordingly. NOLA has sooo many options for dining customers. Lola’s is in short walking distance from me, and I was hoping to see it becoming my geaux-to. not so. far from. We were both very disappointed. Good luck finding a replacement for ‘the female’.
We got to the entrance on Saturday at 6:00 p.m., me, my sister, and her husband. The hostess asked if we had a reservation, and we said no. She told us it wasn’t a problem since they had plenty of tables, both inside and outside, and we could clearly see the place wasn’t full. We said we wanted to sit inside and started chatting in Spanish while she went to check for an available table. Then, another hostess—tall with black hair—came over, spoke to the first hostess, stepped outside, and told us they were fully booked. It was strange because it was only 6:00 p.m., and when we checked online, they had availability all evening. We couldn’t believe it. It really felt like we were being discriminated against for speaking Spanish and being Latino. It was shocking how rude and dismissive they were. To make things even more ridiculous, there was a guy outside actively trying to draw people into the restaurant. Honestly, don’t waste your time going here they are openly discriminatory. It’s just not worth supporting a place that treats people like this.
I recently visited Lola’s and was shocked by the treatment my group received. Upon arrival, we were told there were tables available both inside and outside. However, as soon as the staff overheard us speaking Spanish, their attitude changed abruptly, and we were suddenly informed that the restaurant was fully booked. This experience left us feeling extremely unwelcome and discriminated against. No establishment should treat customers this way. I cannot recommend Lola’s and hope they reconsider how they treat all guests moving forward.
The place is old and dusty, not the best experience honestly. I got the most recommended dish and I was disappointed honestly. The seafood pealla was too salty and the fish in the platter wasn’t good; it was too small for the price and seems like the shrimp wasn’t deveined. The rice was too mushy. The ceviche had too much lime on it. Would not recommend this restaurant. I will not be going again.
The night before I called the restaurant to make a reservation. Someone answered and said that they had tables available and what time would I want. I replied with 7, and they said that was fine. My partner and I get at the restaurant at 7 and see a huge line of people. We assumed that they didn’t make a reservation, but we’re quickly told that everyone in line had reservations. There were about thirty tables in total with only three waiters, and no hostesses in sight. People are getting sat about every thirty minutes; and slowly but surely made it up the line. As we waited we talked with the other guests and they all had reservations for 7. An hour after our reservation was suppose to start a woman walks up, possibly a manager arriving for her shift, and acts shocked that no one was sitting people. She eventually sits us in the back of the outside in a small alcove. We were shoved out of sight and mind. Two different waiters came by, looked at us, and left attending to other people in the alcove but not us. After another forty minutes of being ignored we got up and left. With how many other restaurants there are in New Orleans, there is no excuse to have to wait an hour and forty minutes and not even talk to a waiter. Go spend your time, and money, any where else. Even McDonald’s has better service.
We Made a reservation, came in early got sat on the table even with us being a little early, got served with our drinks of choice and the appetizer, however nearly an hour later we dont have any of our food yet, most of the people who came in later than us got served with their food already, we ended up taking our orders to go, that is how long we had to wait. The food was okay, but not really worth it to wait for like an hour or so. No one even apologizes for the delay or why it was taking so long.
Last Saturday, while driving through Mid-City, we were looking for a place to have dinner. We first tried Café Degas, but without a reservation, there were no tables available, which wasn't surprising. I had heard that Lola's had a great paella, so we decided to try our luck there. The door was open and when we walked in, a gentleman informed me from the back that they open at 5:30 PM. I misunderstood and repeated, "At five?" He corrected me, "No, at 5:30." It was 5:19 PM at the time, just eleven minutes before opening. Despite this, we were asked to leave and wait outside in the sweltering New Orleans summer heat. Nobody other guests were there, not a soul. This felt incredibly disrespectful and inconsiderate to a potential customer. A more considerate approach would have been to invite us to sit and offer some water while we waited. This lack of basic hospitality was unnecessary and off-putting. Ultimately, we left and went to Addis, a much more modest Ethiopian restaurant. Despite its simplicity, the customer service was exceptional. Lola's staff could certainly learn a lot from them about how to treat customers. Because of this experience, I never got to try Lola’s menu and have no intention of ever doing so.
Three things in the menu they didn't have. We were two people and they brought our food 15 minutes apart. My food was cold when they brought my friends's food. The fish i ordered had no salt and the paella was so salty.
Two couples had reservations for 8:30 PM and were seated promptly at that time. However, there was no acknowledgment or attention from the staff until 9:00 PM. For the first 30 minutes, no one offered water or even checked in with them. Someone approached them and asked if they had a server. At that time the appetizer order was taken. At 9:30 PM main meal order placed. By 10:30 PM—two full hours after being seated—still no main meal. They were then informed they could pay for their appetizers and cancel the rest of the meal because their food had still not been prepared. Despite this, they insisted on waiting for their meals. By 11:00 PM, they still had not received their food. This level of service is unacceptable, and the lack of communication only compounded the frustration. In an attempt to address the issue, I approached the restaurant and requested to speak with a manager. I was met with an unprofessional and rude response from the staff. When I pointed out that the couples had been seated at 8:30 PM and were still waiting for food at 11:00 PM, I was told that the kitchen had "run out of food." This seemed to be a blatant falsehood, as I observed the kitchen staff still preparing meals. I expressed my thoughts that the waitress had not placed their order and that no one had communicated any issues with the food. This apparently upset the staff. To make matters worse, one of your employees approached me in a confrontational manner, seemingly threatening aggression and told me to leave the "private business". Additionally, I was approached by two other tables, who mentioned that they had arrived after my group but had already been served. It is clear to me that the service provided to my family was subpar, possibly due to a lack of attention or even disregard for their presence. I was also told by some staff members that, because it was New Year's Eve, we "shouldn’t have come" to the restaurant. I find this level of disrespect and lack of professionalism deeply concerning. This experience was far below the standards one would expect from any reputable establishment, and certainly not reflective of the hospitality that New Orleans is known for. I emailed them with no response.
If I could give this place zero stars I would. We made a reservation for my partners birthday at 7:15pm and apparently the reservation didn't exist which I see is an ongoing problem here. We were told we wouldn't be sat until 8pm. What was supposed to be a special dinner turned into a very disappointing night. Please do better.
