The food here is delicious. There is nothing like a hot bagel for breakfast from this place. They are fast and efficient and the people who work here are kind as well. It’s very busy in the weekends especially, so to still be able to have smiles on their faces with lines out the door sometimes is always a refreshing thing.

If you want a cheap bagel or bialy, this is not your place. But if you want to sink your teeth in the best bialys ever, get a Kossar's bialy hot & fresh out of the oven. No fish or spread needed. Just time it right. And enjoy! But if you need some fish, they have it too. Though Russ & Daughter's is a couple of minute drive away.

I'm always a complicated orderer... Hold this, scoop that, toast extra, very easy cream cheese... 9 times out of 10 my orders come out wrong but Kossar's always gets it right. Perfect and yummy every single time. There's a reason they've been around since 1936. (Also everything is always beautifully wrapped and packaged)

Super friendly and kind staff member helped me choose a bag of delicious chocolate rugelach. I am very touched by the fact that this historic bakery still operates in the city keeping the tradition alive👏

How do you keep your bagels safe? Put lox on them except at @kossars that just might make them even more tempting to steal. Like this everything bagel toasted with lox and cream cheese I stole half of out of my dads hands. Kossers has some of the freshest bagels and waiting in their long line is worth it! They also have some other classics like BECs, French toast, babka, or challah!

Definitely one of my favorite bagel places to go to since it tastes good and is close by. My favorite is the The Kossar's Classic on an everything bagel and I recommend it to my friends when they come visit me. Filled me up for majority of the day. Everyone there is also very kind.

Bagel shopping is my preferred type of souvenir shopping, and Kossar's is a great spot for that. I didn't have the chance to try anything off the menu other than the unadorned bagels I took to-go, but they have been a weekly treat since I got back (just slice+freeze right away to maintain freshness!). I know they're on Goldbelly, but it's much more fun to go get them yourself...

Delicious pastries! I am a Jew who has never actually been to a Jewish type bakery. The hamentashen… apricot and just all of the pastries I have tried were wonderful!!!!! Staff here was so friendly it was a great experience. Will be visiting every single time I am in town. Thank you all so much.

I had what may be the best BLT I've ever had. And I'm in my 70's. Replaced the mayo with avocado; absolutely delicious. Will be on my regular lunch rotation.

Delicious bagels, you can watch them being made in the kitchen while you wait for your order. The cream cheese and salmon combo was great, also want to try other fillings next time.

The best bagels I've had in NYC. We visited twice. The first time there was a wait for fresh bialys so we went for normal bagels. Freshly made choice of different cream cheeses. The pastrami salmon is incredible and I have had nothing like it. I had the double onion cream cheese with pastrami salmon combo and it is so good!!! The next visit I had a bialy with the same combo and it was still amazing. Fresh orange juice is also available here. Unfortunately, the prices are high for a bagel, I would not consider this a cheap spot to grab breakfast. But a must visit at least once!!

My wife and I were visiting NYC and had to have a bagel. Kossar's was on a top 10 list I found. Great food and service. Everyone behind the counter was friendly even with it being crazy busy. The bagels are huge and the price isn't bad at all. Especially for the amount of toppings

Visited on October 4th 2017 So as I placed my order I always keep an eye on the person preparing my food, & to my surprise he changed his glove when finishing with the customer in front of me & never touched my food with his bare hands A+ . Very clean, Friendly staff, the guy behind the counter treated me like I was part of his family. zero complaints will definitely be coming back.

Breakfast is calling! The Classic Bagel from Kossar's Bialys are the best I've had in the city. From the moment you walk in, you can tell the bagels are going to be bomb. It's an old fashioned place and you can't help but love it. You know you're going to get a delicious bagel from a spot like this!

Found this place on our last trip to NYC. We had them delivered daily, used Grubhub. They are amazing and to die for. Best bagels I've ever tasted. Sandwiches are also amazing. Kossar's has never let us down, and you are always full. I've been here a few times now. Always great bagels and bagel sandwiches.

What makes Kossar's so special, are their homemade and always fresh bagels. You can literally taste the difference with each bite. And the best part? You can watch the entire bagel-making process right in the place back window. Now, if you're wondering which bagel to go for, we highly recommend trying their Everything bagel. You can't go wrong with the classic combo of cream cheese and lox. The cream cheese tastes fresh which now we wonder if they make that there too? Seriously delicious breakfast or brunch treat. Now, we won't sugarcoat it - there's usually a line at Kossar's. But trust me, it's worth the wait! As soon as you sink your teeth into one of their freshly made bagels, you'll understand why people keep coming back for more.

I’m going to dream about the Kossar’s Classic bagel when I return to Florida. We just can’t get a bagel like this down there. The superior quality of meats and all the beautiful spreads they create daily in house is what gives their bagels that wow factor. I haven’t eaten a bagel at many places in the city but this is the BEST Bagel I’ve eaten anywhere.

It was pouring rain but that didn’t stop us from piling in to this sweet bakery for some of the city’s best bagels, bialys, and cream cheese. If you like onion, have the double onion cream cheese - with both scallion and red onion. It’s super good. Bialys are a specialty here. If you know what they are, you know what I mean. Kossar’s is the definitive spot for them. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED 🌟

This was my first time to eat here and immediately I noticed the window into to prep area where you can see the bagels being handmade on site. That's as fresh as it gets. They have a full selection of bagels and cream cheeses, as well as an all day breakfast menu and classic sandwiches, too. Fresh baked pastries and cookies, yogurt, juice, coffee ... I had the bacon egg & cheese on a plain toasted bagel with a large coffee. They have some seating inside and I had my choice of where to sit, but it was slow and not that many people there. If it's busy and people don't take their orders to go, you might not find a seat. There are a few (3, I think) 2-top tables & two seats at a bar at the window. The staff is friendly. I'm glad I went and I would definitely go again. 10/10 recommend

It's okay. It's the best bagel in the area and you have to give them credit for keeping that culture in the neighborhood. Sometimes they make me a nova lox and the cream cheese is everywhere. Not pleasent. They have other good stuff though. My Grandma loves their bialys. Absurd, they're so gross and completely inferior to bagels. Idk what early life experience enamours you to them, but they make them here. If you need to kill 3 minutes you can probably get an old-head to wax prosaic over the importance of the specifics of the bialy dough and how it is WAY DIFFERENT that bagel dough. Five stars cuz I need to fight the haters. Kossar's should be 4.2 stars and we need to tip the scales.

The bagels are pretty good and the cream cheese is delicious. I got everything bagel with lox cream cheese which cost $7.90 with tax. They put on a very good amount of cream cheese that popped out of the sides exploding with flavor. Next time I will try a bialy which I have never had before but I wanted to try their bagels. Not bad not bad not the best I’ve had but pretty good.

I'm highly disappointed in the service provided on 9/21/25 when it comes to preparing an order. I was super pumped for getting my lox sandwich on Pumpernickel, might I add that I paid $19 for. Only for me to get ready to dive into my first bite and see that my sandwich was prepared without my lox. This is unacceptable to not get what you paid for. I will be calling this location first thing in the morning for this mishap to be rectified.

As a native New Yorker, I was a bit embarrassed when I found out that I hadn’t been to or heard of Kossar’s. Either way, I’m happy I finally made it here. This is the only place in NYC that makes it’s own cream cheese and it shows. I usually like a light smear of cream cheese, but I was literally using my fingers to eat this cream cheese, it was sweet, fresh, and insanely delicious. Bagels were great — standard nyc. The service was quick, no frills. Loved the ambience and casual vibe. Bonus tip: check out the LES photographs along the wall. They’re super blown up so you can see all of the details that are hard to see when you see these same photos in a book or on a screen!

I love the bagels here. Been here a couple times. Customer service is always good. Food comes out fast. Bagels are always fresh and always has a good amount of cream cheese in each bite.

Bagels are fantastic. Tried a turkey, egg, and scallion cream cheese on a everything bagel, so fresh and crispy and delicious. On the pricier side but super close if you live in the LES.

Go to bagel spot in the neighborhood! Line usually goes out the door, but service is quick. Order is usually made right, but there have been a few times where we've waited 15+ minutes for our bagels.

For me, its the best bagel bread in Manhattan that ive had. Eaten their 3x and the quality of the bite is 5* everytime.

Discovered this place as I walked by, the display is good I wish they would add tags to the baskets to make the decision making process easier. I ordered the garlic bialy with cream cheese and got the sesame bagel to go. The bialy was great but the bagel was one of the best and freshest I ever had. Incredible! The line wasn’t organized because everyone was just trying to stand on the side while they read the menu on the wall. Simple tags would’ve help so much. Not enough seating but that’s not a deal breaker for me.

When I passed this store on the bus (AM09:00, FRI), I noticed that there were many people queuing outside the store. Judging from the crowded crowd and lively atmosphere, the food in the store must be delicious. I will definitely go into the store and buy some food next time I have the chance.

I finally bought a bagel from Kossar’s bagel & Bialys. I must admit my sandwich was really delicious! I purchased a plain bagel with eggs & cheese. The bagel was fresh and flavorful and a bit crispy which is what I love in a bagel. My colleagues always buy their coffee and bagels from here too. The establishment is very clean and has indoor and outdoor seating if you have time to sit, eat and drink your beverage. The price is moderate but welllll worth it!!!! I’ll be back soon!!

came here via a promotion. ordered an Everything Pumpernickel bagel with Lox cream. Chewy bagel--the everything toppings on the crust go nicely with the pumpernickel flavor as well as the lox cream cream cheese which provides that salty salmon taste in fatty smoothness. good amount of seating inside and outside. service is a little slow and wonky. a toasted bialy with butter OR cream cheese is still my go-to order at Kossar’s!

Apparently this place is the oldest bialy maker in nyc. Unpopular opinion but I don’t see the difference between a bialy and bagel here other than the bialy is smaller. Its like a mini bagel. It was good especially with scallion cream cheese but didn’t see the hype with the difference in a bialy. Overall, I had a good experience and would go back. Not sure I would go out of the way though.

A classic spot to get bagels and bialys in Lower East Side. Kossar’s is famous for its bialys, so apparently their bialys are top notch, even better than their bagels imo. ＊Onion Bialys Bialy is a flat roll with a hole in the center spread with onion. It has a soft bread like texture. Compared to bagels, bialys are less dense and less filling. If you don’t wanna unhinge your jaw for a bagel, bialys will be a good alternative. Their bialys are very fresh and fluffy. You can add spread to your bialys, but I like enjoying them plain. ＊Whole Wheat Bagel w. Tofu Veggie CC My go-to bagel order at any bagel spots. Size-wise it is not as big as other typical New York bagels. I prefer it smaller anyway so I won’t feel extremely full after finishing one.

Had an everything bagel with lox spread which was quite good. Also had an onion bialy which I've never had before and wasn't that into. It just tastes like a denser bagel but with less flavor and a worse texture. I wouldn't order it again. I did get a garlic bialy which I warmed up at home and applied butter to, and that was quite tasty. I'd get that again. I noticed previous reviews complained about the service but I had good service when I visited on 7/8/21. No complaints there.

11/26 First time try, I got a lox sandwich on cinnamon raisin. It was absolutely delicious. The wait time is real bummer but they made up for it by giving me a cookie. This is a definite must try if you’re in the area with some time to spare.

Had a very tasty lox bagel (Kosar classic) on a plain bagel, not toasted, and butter instead of cream cheese here. There is very minimal seating and it not an ideal place to eat with groups larger than 3 or 4 but you may have better luck finding seating during a busy hour in a party of 2. We came at around 11:30am on a Sunday and it was packed!! It has a charming old school atmosphere. My mom ate a pumpernickel bagel with lox spread (not a fan) she said it was too salty but my dad did enjoy his everything pumpernickel with lox spread, onions and tomatoes. I did find this place to be pretty pricey a my Kosar classic was almost $20 which is the most I’ve spent on a sandwich of this kind.

Ordered babka french toast which is supposed to come with maple syrup. Received honey instead because they were out of syrup. Disappointing. You order on the right and receive a ticket. Then you pay at the counter on the left. They will call your name when your order is ready.

The food wasn‘t bad, but very expensive. It was cold inside, because the staff didn‘t want to close the door. Staff wasn‘t very friendly.

The products are good quality and the prices reflect that. The store is clean, but god the service is so slow. Every visit has been a patience test. Probably because there are many delivery /take out orders coming in and they don’t prioritize in person customers.

Today I went to your establishment to buy two cappuccinos, and when I asked the girl if I wanted two cappuccinos, she made a strange face, closing her mouth to the side, and I don't like that. It took a long time to make two cappuccinos. The establishment was super empty. It took her more than 20 minutes or 15 minutes to serve me both cappuccinos, and I was already late, and she was more eager to serve me. I don't know why, I'm Maxi. I'm Jewish, I'm from Portugal, and I live here in New York. But I found it super strange that this girl isn't very interested in working. I wouldn't hire people like that. If you're not interested in working, give the opportunity to people who want to work and have a good smile and are nice to people. I was still super friendly, I helped the people who work at the establishment open the door to take the order and the guy even offered me something as a gift, but I didn't take it because I was late and I was very angry with her for taking so long to make the cappuccino.

$3 plus tax for a good cup of Joe. Bagels are baked fresh on premise judging from what the eyes can see. Outdoor seating also available. Dog & bike friendly. No restroom as far as I can tell. Sandwiches are served on a bagel. Prices seem a bit high for the area. Feels more like SoHo than lower east side. Area is going through gentrification with Traders Joe on the corner.

Still a great bagel and local standard, but something has definitely changed. The bialys are gone, some weird disk thing instead. Cream cheese is now like light margarine. The Kossars "magic" has been deleted. If you call for pickup or walk in, they make you wait 15-60 minutes before clearing all delivery orders first. The staff ignore you and have glazed eyes like they're about to quit. What happened?

Not bad, but I wouldn’t consider this my go-to bagel cafe. The bialy was good, but nothing special, in my opinion. I believe there’s only 2 bialy flavors- garlic and onion, I did not see a plain one. Not a huge variety of cream cheeses, mostly the classics (e.g., lox, strawberry, cucumber and dill). Great service and clean cafe with decent amount of seating.

I love this place and I’m a local. Just ordered an everything bagel with lox cream cheese. The texture of the bagel was great BUT it had zero garlic or onion flavoring! I told staff, and they said “I noticed that..”. that should’ve been the queue for them to give me And onion or garlic bagel on the house since it was an annoying experience. There was copious cream cheese that was tasty, but they need to put some onion and garlic flavoring on the bagel!!

Won’t be coming back here again. Been coming here on and off for a little over 2 years. I come in for breakfast while i walk my dog (8 year old golden retriever). The staff has always been super friendly, good conversation and even given my dog bagels many times! Yesterday i walk in to an empty shop with my golden at 11 am to grab some take out breakfast, and the worker coldly tells me i can’t have dogs in the shop. I told her I’m just ordering to go, like i have been for the past 2 years. She says “sorry, no dogs in the shop”. I again, confused, ask how am i supposed to order? She looks outside and proceeds to tell me to leave my dog unattended outside the shop… HOLD ON- leave a golden retriever on the main intersection alone on a high traffic sidewalk? What??? I asked what had changed, since it was never an issue to order with my dog there. She didn’t have an answer, and would not take my order so i left. No apology, no “sorry the policy has changed”, no customer service whatsoever. I can understand no dogs dining inside, but a great majority of people grab their breakfast while walking their dogs in the morning. It kills an entire customer base. Funny enough my dog is a trained medical alert service dog, but based on her attitude alone, I internally decided it wasn’t worth it and noted to not come back there again. Plenty of places to get a mediocre bagel in the lower east side. It’s not hard for me to drop this spot. Aside from that, one of the workers harassed me for my phone number multiple times in the earlier years of coming here, but i never spoke on that regardless 🙃.

Kossar's is an institution on the Lower East Side with and I've had their bagels several times over the years. However, the quality of their bagels and their service has dropped significantly over the last few months, and it's now not a place I can recommend to anyone. Bagels often taste stale and they have very few bagels available at the store. When I placed an online order with them recently, it took them 1.5 hours to bake the bagels, and there was no update to us on delivery times. We ended up having to cancel the order; they wouldn't even process the cancellation on their end.

Ordered a bagel with specific instructions and they were not followed. Paid about $10 for a bagel with lox spread, onion and tomato. I barely had any onion (4 strands) or tomato. The tomato I did receive was the butt end (dreadful). The lox spread was also sparingly applied. I recommend you never go here, but go to nearby B&B Bagels (73&1st).

Kossar's bialys and bagels is a lower east side institution. Which unfortunately has gone through some dramatic changes over new owners. Gone are fresh onions and garlic bialys. What has also disappeared completely are the big and little onion boards, Gone are also the big and small buhkas. And slim onions sticks. In it's place is what do want. Small undersized bialys and hopefully they were cooked all the ways through . And if goes wrong the new manager/ management will blame it on the employee's and say will make up to next time Please provide your receipt . Oh, and you want an everything bagel with butter that's $3.75

My bagel tasted tough and stale and I came in around 11:30am on a Thursday. Not only that but my partner and I ordered right before a long line formed behind us and everyone still got their food first before us. If you want good bagels go to Russ & Daughters (the deli not diner) that’s a few minutes away, similar price point, and has way more options

This once great bagel place has lately been hamstrung by inept and inattentive staff. For instance, my order today: onion bagel, scallion cream cheese, and sliced lox. I get home to find an onion bagel with scallion cream cheese AND lox cream cheese piled on top of each other. Still got charged $16.

Not impressed. Bialys were not crusty enough. Ordered onion bialy with roasted garlic and onion cream cream. Cream cheese was tasty. They do have a large variety. Service is ok, but not particularly friendly. Coffee was good.

I got an everything bagel Kossar’s classic sandwich, and when I tell you this was the single saltiest piece of food I have ever taken a bite of I’m not exaggerating. The whole bagel was basically inedible because of the saltiness of the outer crust, and I essentially just ate the cream cheese/nova/onions to avoid the crust. That being said - other pictures seem substantially less salty, but just beware that you may get screwed.

Last time at this place. They either make you wait way too long, or get your order wrong. Last week I walked out without my bagel after it didn’t arrive after a 10 min wait. This week I thought I’d give them another chance and ordered a bagel with plain cream cheese. Got home, bagel was all squashed and full of chive cream cheese, which I hate. Binned it. Also their “cream cheese” is watered down with margarine. Every little cent helps, right guys?

I ordered 1 bialy with nothing on it and waited over 15 minutes. The girl right in front of me ordered a dozen bialys and got her order within a couple minutes. A couple other girls came in much later than me and also placed a large order and somehow received their order before me. It wasn’t until after they received their order that I went to follow up wondering why my singular bialy was taking so long, only for the guy who took my order to ask me what I ordered and then proceed to grab it straight from the basket without even heating it up, and threw it into a bag without a word or an apology. It didn’t go beyond my notice that there was another customer in the store when I arrived who was also Asian and appeared to have been waiting awhile already for his order. His order also took exceedingly long, with every other persons order in the establishment being complete before his. He finally only got part of his order and had to stand at the counter waiting for the balance. I think it goes without saying that all three women and everyone else who received their order first were not Asian. Not sure how much longer I would’ve had to wait if I hadn’t asked where my order was. But 15+ minutes to wait for one, cold bialy is absolutely ridiculous, and I will not be patronizing this establishment again.

I have ordered from here regularly for years but the quality has gone down literally every single time I order. Today they made me wait over an hour for my order with no updates and zero form of customer service. Not sure who is managing the business right now but the way they are conducting business currently is going to ensure kossars isn’t going to be around for many more years, especially with so many better bagel shops opening up in the area.

Way, way too slow. At some point they changed to where the cash register guy does everything -- takes orders in person, takes orders on the phone, runs the register, passes out food. At 9am on a Sunday morning, there was only one person ahead of me in line, but I had to stand there for 8 minutes for him to get to me. They used to have you order with the guys handling the food, like every other bagel place I've been in. Kossar's current approach sucks. Edit: I saw your reply and have emailed you twice over the last week, with no response. Taking off another star for y'all find a new way to waste my time.

What happened to the bialy? Bialy was made/shaped like a bagel. New baker? This place is going downhill. I went back 1 week, after management sent response to try again. Result: same bialy made like a plain bagel, with shiny crust. Difference: not so friendly cashier, refused to let me see the bialy before payment. Conclusion: not a one off. They decided that consumers won't know the difference and can save money on preparation.

We stopped in to order just one Bialy—we live nearby and wanted to support this local spot. Unfortunately, the experience was pretty frustrating. It took over 15 minutes on a quiet Sunday late afternoon for a single item, and if we hadn’t followed up, I’m not sure how much longer we would have waited. What made it worse was watching several people who ordered well after us (with large orders) receive their food almost right away. It felt like we were completely overlooked. There was no apology, no acknowledgment of the delay, and we were left feeling uncomfortable, even wondering if there was some form of unfair treatment behind how our order was handled. We walked out disappointed, and it’s hard to want to return when the service feels this inconsistent and dismissive.

This used to by favorite bagel place in the city, but it's been getting steadily worse over the past year. Today was abysmal. It all started when they switched from ordering directly from the bagel maker to ordering from the cashier. It leads to mistakes as things get lost in translation from customer to cashier to bagel maker. Even worse, today, I ordered a bagel with lox and cream cheese, and got the stingiest portion of cream cheese I've ever seen. I asked the bagel maker to put on more, but he barely but on any extra. I paid $18 for a sandwich, and all I could taste was bread. It was awful. I'm seriously considering looking for a new regular bagel place now.
