honestly, this place caught me by surprise. it exceeded my expectations. the labneh was great, as was the hummus. the kebab was so delicious, as was the lamb. 10/10 would recommend.
Very good home-y food for a reasonable price! Indoor seating is limited, but weather permitting they have outdoor dining. Super friendly service and can’t complain on quality
The lentil soup was amazing! It was only $5 for a large bowl. The employees are so sweet and accommodating. What a gem of a place. I will be back
Really nice kofta platter with three large boneless kofta, all the world’s supply of green beans and salad. Falafel was nice and correctly cooked with delicate shell and creamy interior.
Really enjoyed the food! I got a combo plate it was all delicious.
Fantastic, authentic Lebanese food. This little "hole in the wall" eatery isn't much to look at, but the food more than makes up for it. Tabbouleh, hummus, babaghanoush, falafel, fatayyir... all just like mom's. Nice outdoor seating too for the warmer months.
i had to write a review because I literally eat here almost every other day / Week. if i get a falafel from somewhere else it doesn't taste the same as Sido's they're the best ! take alllll my money please :)
I've been going to this place for a very long time. The food is always good. It usually isn't crowded and the staff is great. It's my family's favorite. I reccomend the shawarma or falafel sandwich!
Awesome food, tasty. Service without complaint, maybe a bit small to eat inside but if weather permitting grab the food to go and eat in Central Park.
quick and delish food with friendly service
My favorite takeout in the UWS, everything is extremely fresh and quality
Tasty Shawarmas and Falafel sandwiches. Might you find it different than what you're used to by the look, but inside it is all yummy. Not to forget the hospitality and the big smile 😊
Delicious, easy menu with an air-conditioned dining room and sidewalk tables. Great prices, generous portions.
A very lovely, wonderful and clean place! The owner is very kind. He arranged the tables for us and gave us some falafels to test. The food was very delicious and tasty.
Food was really good and not expensive. Server very nice
This is the best middle eastern food in NY,period.By a mile, hands down. Father Sido, who founded this wonderful cuisine left the perfect recipes of many tenderly delicious and spectacularly healthy dishes. Falafel, homus, baba ghannouj and tabouli lead the pack of starters followed by the grilled kababs and the couscous with chicken or meat. I have had them all,,,simply the best. When I feel super, I indulge on a gyro over rice pilaf and the irresistible baklava and turkish coffee. Rabya at Columbus and 73rd St has the most friendly feeding hands and he will listen to what you actually need. I would reccomend Sido with my eyes closed because I know it just is the best.
How can they put $$, it's only $ and really good! The falafel sandwich is stuffed with fresh ingredients and tasted really good ($5) He also let me try the hummus for free, very nice!
Such a great local spot! Such nice people. We messed up an order and they fixed it no problem and were so kind doing it! Food is delicious and great portions (and speedy)!
The service was amazing here. The guy behind the counter was super nice and friendly, really made for an enjoyable experience. The chicken kebab sandwich was quite good. There was a bit too much hummus but that’s more of a personal preference. I would definitely go back to try other items on the menu.
A humble place with delicious Mediterranean foods. Reasonably priced. Two thumbs up! I usually get lamb kebab sandwich but due to inflation they don’t have this menu anymore . Lamb gyro sandwich 🥙 is as delish !
Fantastic falafel and shawarma (both chicken and lamb are great, but I prefer the chicken) -- dare I even say the best in the city! The falafel is fluffy and flavorful, and their hot sauce is homemade and packs a great punch. Everything is fresh and their salad & vegetables are awesome. Staff is super friendly and handles customizations with ease. I am a happy regular.
Good spot in a good neighborhood. A NYC News Anchor stopped by to socialize while we were there which was kind of cool too. The food was a little expensive for the portion sizes, but it was very tasty. Good vegan and vegetarian options.
I love this little hole in the wall. I’ve probably eaten here 25 times and I always order the same thing: The falafel sandwich with baba ghanouj and tabouli. Super delicious. Ask them to mix it all together before they put in the sandwich so they don’t pile up the different ingredients in layers. Eat it with hot sauce. Yum!
As a middle eastern Im so happy I found a decent Falafel and Shawarma place. Great place, simple to the level it needs to be quick service and looks very clean. The price are not the middle east but for new York that totally fine! Highly recommended
Small shop, Food was priced very well and DELICIOUS. You need to get the falafel, those were the best I've ever had. Owner was very nice and helpful. Good spot if you want real food near Central park
I stopped in on a weeknight for a quick dinner. Service was awesome, they were basically closed but still took my order. I got a falafel sandwich which was delicious. Don't skip the hot sauce :)
Delicious, fresh lamb shwarma gyro (in a pita). Not expensive, plenty of food, and counter service was friendly. Seating area was immaculate.
Good quick stop. We had Chicken Shawarma and a hummus plate and both were delicious and very fresh. Very friendly staff as well.
Excellent neighborhood spot for falafel. Grilled lamb sandwich is fantastic. Salads are clean and fresh. Shwarma is greasy but everything else rocks. Delivery is efficient. Staff is very friendly.
I've been eating shawarmas and Lebanese food in different countries since I was a kid. This was honestly the best shawarma I’ve ever had. Very nice lamb meat with a nice combination of vegetables. If you love spicy food, ask them to put a little of their spicy sauce.
Brilliant vegan/vegetarian food, perfect portion sizes, extremely fast service and the guys who worked there were so friendly and inviting. Would highly recommend as a quick casual eat. Prices are good too.
Stopped in at lunchtime in need of a cheap sandwich today and left with probably most filling meal you can get for $7 on the entire Upper West Side. The baba ghanoush sandwich is delicious and super affordable. Their shawarma looked amazing, so I'll be back to try that after payday :) Protip: If you work or live in the area, go directly to their website (sidofalafeltogo.com) to order free delivery. You can add a tip there as well if you, like me, never have cash on you.
So often in New York, you spend so much time thinking and planning where to eat. Yet, even after all that effort, there are spot you stumble into that turn out to the best food in the city. This is that place. Rainy day so stopped at the first place I spotted. This falafel is seasoned so well and the fried to perfection. It’s an incredible sandwich at an incredible price and I’m better for having had it.
My go to for falafels. Always fresh and not heavy like some places. They never disappoint. Super friendly service and their prices are great too
Next to a good pizza joint, the neighborhood’s falafel shop is the next most important culinary feature to me. I am grateful that Sido is only steps away!
Fresh, tasty, clean, quickly served, and reasonably priced. You don't want to eat this type of cuisine on a tablecloth joint, which would force you to eat slowly and worry about the drip from the corner of your mouth. No old oil taste here. Eat and let the wine drinkers on the avenue order a slice of pizza to their regret.
Good food. Falafel is always fresh. Food is quick and ready to go in a few minutes. I love their hummus. Great lunch place, 5-6 tables for seating. Inexpensive especially for the area, 6-8 bucks for a sandwich.
This place helped make our trip to New York memorable. It felt like we found the city's best kept secret. The owner was indescribably generous and kind. He brought us water, samplers and even a small dessert. It was as unbelievable as the quality of the food and the size of the portions. An easy 5 stars and somewhere we'll visit again when we return to New York.
I ordered the chicken gyro sandwich -with spicy sauce on the side and it was really good. I was super hungry and not sure it would be sufficient but it was! The ingredients are fresh and the chicken is cooked to perfection! the outdoor seating makes the meal so pleasant! Would strongly recommend 😊
Owner was very nice and listened to us carefully. He was receptive and their menu was extensive but simple and easy to understand. Prices were fair and serving portions were adequate (the size of a regular sandwhich). The owner also trusted us with payment, insisting that we enjoy first and pay later.
I was there the other day, I like my shawarma without many bells and whistles, I really like the red pickled turnips, a few pickles, Hummus (NO tahinie - it's do dominant of a flavor) and a touch of hot sauce. I was disappointed observing no turnips, my #1 condiment. Imagine my surprise when he brought me the sandwich and the welcomed sight of turnips was there, yay!! amazing service, the meat was just right, tangy, fresh and delicious, although not an option on the menu, I asked for a chicken / lamb mix and received exactly what I asked for! Calm relaxed atmosphere, simple yet welcoming. Very, very highly recommended!
Good vegetarian options . Chicken shawarma meal was great. Vegetarian options are good
My boyfriend and I live right around the corner from Sido and I don't think we can ever move. We love it here, the staff is always so friendly and quick with the orders, and the food is AMAZING. We usually always get the Shawarma, but definitely always get the falafel. They are so good. The hot sauce they give is also delicious, we keep the leftovers in the fridge for other meals. The price is also so worth the amount of food you get, we're always satisfied. Sido is just the best..... I could go on forever... one of our favorites in NYC!
10/10 Very rare the service and food hit the mark. The people who were taking the order and making the food were so nice and friendly. The best meal I had in the city in awhile. They make the falafel from scratch and the sauces were good. Ate 6 falafels. The spicy sauce was soo good also. The shawarma gyro sandwich was to die for. So warm and meaty.
Sido Falalfel & More is usually busy, but I've never had to wait more than ~5 minutes for my food. I always get the vegan falafel sandwich, which is delicious and warm. There's some seating indoors and also outdoors, but also works great to-go.
It’s quick. It’s delicious. You sometimes get a free falafel with you shawarma. The rights amounts of items in the pocket somitbhas the right amount of heat. Happy to have Sido in the neighborhood.
I just have to say the staff is lovely. Food is great too for quick and casual. But the staff is what makes this place fantastic.
Super cute location. Everyone was very friendly. The food was amazing I highly recommend this place to eat.
The food here satisfies on a deeper level than just filling you up. The team shows warmth too. I'll make a point to return when I'm close. Not a scrap remained - the cooking was that good. I feel comfortable about coming back.
The most delicious lamb shawarma gyro I have ever eaten! Full of vegetables and tender meat. Excellent sauces and truly original flavors. Lamb meat soft and very tasty. Outstanding service, tables also outside. A must visit place in the heart of Manhattan with a flavor of this Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisine that is also affordable. I highly recommend.
Found this amazing vegan friendly place accidentally as we were getting hungry and walking by. Ordered falafel sandwiches and fries 🍟. So tasty that we ordered two more sandwiches to go! And fries were one of the best I have ever tried in any of the counties I’ve been! Staff is very friendly and so swift at what they do! 5 stars ⭐️ are not enough to rate them! I wish we stayed longer in NYC to come back to this place again.
Highly, highly recommend. Sido is a place I've eaten several times, and it is consistently great each time. Their falafel is the best in the city--you can tell the recipe is authentic. The mixed grill, shawarma lamb and beef gyro, and hummus are all great. The atmosphere is so charming, a smaller place with some seating inside as well as sidewalk seating, and the restaurant is clean. The owner and staff are always friendly, always welcoming, and I so appreciate how kind they are when I take my kids in too. I've also ordered to go, and the food is packaged well and tastes great as a to go order too.
I stopped by to get a quick bite. Bought their lamb sandwich and it was delicious. Right amount of meat, veggies and sauce combination. People that work there are very nice and appreciative. I enjoyed my meal, would recommend for anyone and will definitely stop by again when I am in the area.
I decided to get some food before seeing Josh Johnson perform. 1st time in NYC, so I'm clueless on where to go. Lol I'm walking and stumble across this place. Amazing! The gentlemen were very kind and the food was great. Best falafel I ever had and the Chicken Shwarma Gyro was very good. I recommend this quaint, welcoming spot.
TL;DR: Sido is great. For the more invested reader, as I write, I am eating falafel sandwich from Sido and it is absolutely delicious. When falafel is good it's so good, and Sido's is SO GOOD: moist, crunchy on the outside, creamy on the inside (as opposed to crumbly), and perfectly seasoned. The sandwich has lovely fresh vegetables, great tahini, and delicious hot sauce all of which work really well together. Besides the falafel, I also recommend the chicken kebab sandwich which is as fresh and tasty as what I describe above, and with which you get a free falafel - look in your bag! - and now we're back where we started!
The food is delicious and fresh, more affordable than many eateries around the neighborhood. Four stars because the atmosphere and decor could be better. Definitely worth a visit if you like Mediterranean food.
Overall food was good but not great, but I would definitely order from here again. Super fast delivery (less than 15 mins to 77th and West End). Falafel, shwarma sandwich, tabouleh salad were all tasty. Grape leaves and greek salad were less impressive, although passable.
Sido has been a neighborhood resource for years. The offerings are mainly vegetarian Mid-East staples, but I had a delicious shwarma dinner to go yesterday. And the cook kindly gave me some tabbouleh as part of my green salad side. The woman in front of me went from 1 piece of baklava to 2 pieces, to 3 pieces! The service is efficient and friendly, and the prices are very reasonable.
I'm an Arab so I've eaten a lot of falafel. This is the best falafel I've ever had no question. The service was quick and they were very polite. Sadly the chicken shawerma was mediocre (too much tahini) and you are definitely paying Manhattan prices which is fine since I'm okay supporting local spots like this.
The food here is healthy and delicious. The staff members are professional and give excellent customer service. Hand sanitizer is available at the front door and counter. The tables and floor are kept clean.
I just popped randomly in to grab a nice sandwich while walking back to midtown from the Upper West Side... and was not disappointed. I had the lamb kebab sandwich which was cooked to order (they even gave me a falafel to eat while waiting) and served up on nice soft pita bread with crisp salad, tangy houmous and a good hot sauce. The place itself isn't much to write home about, but that isn't important at all – grab something and go sit in Central Park to enjoy it.
Lovely crisp falafel served with a delicious sauce, lamb shawarma spiced just right served in a big pocket pita with veggies and sauces to your liking as well as a mildly spiced chicken shawarma combined with their potato fries and sauces - a lovely combination best enjoyed in sunny Central Park which is just a few steps away! Halal and the service was excellent.
Tried the lamb gyro sandwich, and the gyro was interesting— it was not the traditional gyro shaved off of a cylinder of meat. It was like small pieces of lamb sautéed with onion. I didn’t like it as much.
Cute corner restaurant with outdoor seating. The falafel sandwich was ok.
Not terrrible, not great. Ordered two lamb shawarmas. The lamb came from a reach-in refrigerator under the counter and was heated up on a flat grill which already had food scraps on it. The gentleman preparing the food did scrape down the grill first but it did not look very sanitary. The charges a dollar extra for pickles and an additional dollar for hummus - which I thought always came with shawarma? Guess not.
Close to 40-50 degrees inside and no heat made this dinner less enjoyable for sure. Came in hungry, but after I saw the cook using his bear hands to load the chicken from the grill onto my dish the hunger was gone. Didn’t see any rodents on site so that is a positive. Person serving the food was very nice so need to rate the service accordingly. Won’t eat here again.
Reviews led me astray. I rarely feel ripped off. $8 for lightly added falafels with iceberg lettuce. For the price they should make it normal size or improve the ingredients. If you had falafel downtown, fair warning
I’ve had Shawarma platter. The quality was not great - Poor quality Shawarma meat, quite hard, and not very flavorful. Chunks were also chewy and difficult to dissect. Meat was also somewhat dry and too greasy. It didn’t have the feeling of being freshly crisply prepared. Falafels were not bad, but overall the meat disappointed me. The soups were also not good. The lentil soup was very very watery - to a point that I couldn’t taste the lentils. And the bean soup didn’t have the freshly prepared taste. Overall, I would not come here again.
Sido falafel is good for grab and go place kind of calling it a day. I have had alot of good food and good falafel and shawerma in my life. Sido falafel is ok nothing crazy. I got the shawerma sandwich when I ordered it the staff pulled out a bucket of meat, placed it onto the stove warmed it up and tossed it into a Sandwich which threw me off. I asked you guys don’t cut it off a skewer he said no… not that it matters but that’s literally what shawerma is. I asked for pickles which is usually standard in shawerma sandwich and they charge extra for that it’s a dollar more but anything I put in it they charge for. Total was like $16. when in Jersey I can get a sandwich bigger and tastier for less and more sides in it. Look the sandwich was not bad in flavor it tasted good and the staff were great and all that just needs a little more presentable way of making the food! And a little more flavor to the meat. Overall good place for grab and go! But I wouldn’t die to go back and try another.
Awful. Ordered the lamb gyros sandwich. About a third of the meat was fatty and inedible. All of it was greasy. The pita fell totally apart as I was eating it. And way overpriced for what you get. I’ll never go back.
Very bad delivery experience! Ordered from here for lunch, after an hour of waiting I called and was told the order was on the way. After an hour and half, I called again to no answer. I tried repeatedly and finally someone answered the phone to tell me again, the delivery is on the way. I expressed my concerns about the temperature of the food and he hung up on me. After over two hours, I am trying to cancel this order. I ordered from Seamless. The delivery came and the soup was half spilled out upside down in the bag (no more broth in the soup left). The sandwich was cold and the "sauce on the side" did not exist. I called the restaurant again and they immediately hung up on me. I will have to get my credit card to decline the transaction, and this food is going in the trash. I will not order from here again.
We just went there to eat the food was really ok - the problem was that we were 5 people so he offered that he will take care of us and will send us plates to the table and all will be fine - we told then that we don't want to pay more than $50 - he said no problem! When we asked for the bill he charged us $65 cause he said that he gave us more things.... after asking why?! He changed it to $60! I didn’t want to stay there any more so I just paid and left. so the food is good but you might get scammed - take it under consideration.
We ordered a mixed meat plate, then when we received it, the man told us he put an extra 2 falafels there. We thought it was generosity, turns out it was an extra 6$ for the two small falafels! And the food comes in small portions, too. Maybe we were stupid for saying that we didn't order it, but they shouldn't trick tourists this way. This place is a fraud!
We had chicken shawarma plate, beef shawarma plate and baba ganoush. Paid +$60 and food was not good. Baba ganoush was watery…chicken shawarma was old and seemed cut way too small that it got burnt. Rice was not hot or fresh and neither was the bread. The place is open windows to the street so that was good because store is small. Won’t be going back.
If you are at least a little bit environmentally conscious you don't step into this place. The food was OK, but they pack EVERYTHING into plastic, the sauces SEPARATELY. Until this policy isn't changed I'll leave my rating one star and I encourage everyone to do so as well. Good that I had my own cutlery and box.
