@peonyseafoodrestaurant in Oakland really impressed us ‼️ Their dim sum is super innovative and you can see from the busy restaurant others agree. Our favorites: cheesy shrimp balls shaped like apples, pandan mochi salted egg like pears, sui mai, broccoli, crispy shrimp noodle roll, and chicken curry triangle 🔥🔥 Absolutely worth a trip to Oakland. Next time we want to check out the @oaklandasiancc 😍 #foodie #bayarea #dimsum #delicious #date

Yummy and traditional dim sum restaurant. Peking duck, beef tripe stew and rabbit jello dessert are my favorite here. The service could be hit or miss depends on how busy they are.

Peony is our go-to spot when we want a real Cantonese food and dim sum. Their dim sum is consistently fresh and flavorful—especially the beef balls, steamed spare ribs, and rice rolls—and all are hand-made. The lobster & noodle combo is a must-order: generous portion, fresh lobster, perfectly cooked noodles, and great for sharing at a big table. We also love the congee and veggie dishes, which balance out the meal and taste just like home-style cooking. Service is efficient, the dining room is perfect for family gatherings and celebrations, and prices are very fair for the quality and portion size. Highly recommend Peony for anyone looking for authentic Cantonese dim sum and banquet-style dishes in the East Bay.

Well well well. Google Maps is stalking me. Okay- here we go, people. Went there on Thursday which was about 11:30 for mom’s 97th birthday. Yes, you heard me right. The big 9-7! We liked the dim sum which is fresh and tasty, not too salty nor oily. A bit expensive though so be prepared. Do book one of the semi private rooms if you can. Enjoy!

Ivecome to this restaurant everytime I'm back in Oakland since I was young, and I highly believe this is the best Chinese restaurant I've had in the Bay Area. The staff are always extremely kind and attentive, the atmosphere is welcoming, and food is absolutely amazing. Whether we go for lunch or dinner we always get the dim sum, which I promise you can't go wrong with!!

I came for the dim sum lunch with a friend who had never had dim sum before. This place is very authentic and we both thought everything was delicious. My favorite items were the crispy shrimp balls, steamed pork buns, short ribs, and the steamed egg custard buns.

An excellent Dim Sum restaurant that we've visited many times over the years. Great food with lots of variety. Desserts like "piggy" custard buns and "rabbit" coconut jello are unique. This place can seat a lot of people and is always busy when we visit. They have portable digital menus in the form of iPads.

Large, spacious well-run restaurant. I sat toward the back and did tea service, staff were very attentive. We went on the earlier side Sunday AM (10:30am) so we did not have to wait. The beef baked bun in particular was my favorite - flaky, soft and nice balance of salty/sweet. Loved all the dishes we ordered, and will be adding this to my list of regular dim sum spots!

Overall, I had a very nice time at Peony Seafood Restaurant. The food awakened my inner Chinese self. The rice jook was rich and creamy, filled with chunks of pork and aged eggs. The chicken feet were difficult to eat and pick up. I preferred the warm chicken feet to the cold, slimy ones. I liked the veggies topped in tofu skin. My favorite dish was the roast pork.

Very nice restaurant with reasonable prices. Authentic cantanes dim sum dishes. There is underground parking, we paid $3. Four of us ordered 11 dishes (cost $85) and we were full and content.

First time here. My good friend invited me to try this place out. Very friendly staff, quick to bring out food and reasonable price for the quality. The dim sum is very good quality here. They have a big seating area and they follow covid protocol doing temperature checks at check in. Great experience overall!

This restaurant reminded me so much of my trip to Hong Kong. The restaurant was ornate and expansive with many patrons dining on dim sum. Most of the customers were Chinese, so we knew we were in the right spot for authentic dim sum. Though I noticed many tables with laminated menus that included photos of the dishes, we were given an iPad from which to place our order. Our meal included stir-fried soy sauce noodles, Berkshire dumplings, spicy dumplings, shrimp & chive dumplings, roast pork spareribs, and eggplant and mushrooms stuffed with shrimp. The food was spectacular! Though the servers didn't speak to us when they would bring our dishes, they nodded when we thanked them. I noticed some interesting dishes in the menu, so I look forward to returning for dinner sometime.

Service is excellent ! However the food tastes okay and some of them are cold. Dim Sum should be hot! However service is good. When we bring up the issue they are able to remake it and correct the issue.

This was our 1st visit but we will return. We enjoyed everything we tried and looking forward to trying new dishes from their extensive menu. The service was attentive and friendly. The decor was pretty. Will recommend to family and friends.

I visited Peony Seafood Restaurant for dim sum, and while the experience had its positives, there were a few aspects that tempered my overall impression. The wait time for a table was a bit longer than expected, but we were eventually seated in the quieter tea lounge section of the restaurant. This area was conducive to a more peaceful dining experience, and the server did inform us upfront about the tea charge, which was appreciated. If you're seeking a serene space to enjoy your dim sum, the tea lounge section is worth considering. As for the food, there were no major complaints. The dim sum offerings tasted good and satisfied my craving. However, while the flavors were enjoyable, there was nothing particularly remarkable that stood out.

growing up I've been to many of the dim sum places in Oakland Chinatown, and they're one of the few that has stayed around even though it has changed owners a couple of times from my understanding. walking in you still has the classic feel of what dim sum used to be like the interior is a bit more old school and not much has really changed physically. but the small details like ordering your food through the iPad have been modernized and what I do appreciate about the spot would be the minor details like having an extra water jug to refill our tea kettle (which saves sooo much time with waiting on refills and etc - super convenient) however, the reason why I say that they got the rating is due to the food quality and the service itself. for $7.20 the porridge was barely the size of my hand and we had asked the server for 4 bowls to share amongst our party - they gave us attitude (which i feel can be typical at an Asian hole in the wall) but even when we had asked nicely they questioned why we needed the extra bowl/made it feel like it was a really hard ask. for the noodles-wrapped donut - the donut was super stale and had a weird taste intermixed. i feel like the dish sizes were misleading from the menu. for example, the porridge was listed as large but as mentioned before it was only the size of my hand. i don't really recommend this spot as the ambiance, food, and service weren't the best but at the same time it might be worth visiting as it truly has been a huge part of the history within oakland chinatown!

I visited Peony Seafood Restaurant with my family. The space is large and can accommodate big groups, but the service follows the traditional Chinese-style approach—minimal and not particularly attentive. While the desserts were cute and tasty, most of the dim sum dishes were disappointing. It seems like they make everything to order, which results in slower service. Prices are on the higher side, and overall, it didn’t meet expectations. I wouldn’t recommend it for dim sum enthusiasts.

I loved the open space on the second floor, 🌟 and the staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating, adding to the positive vibes. The relaxing 🎶 background music made it a perfect spot for conversations. We tried a variety of dishes from the menu, although the flavors fell short of expectations, the excellent service made up for it. 🍽️ Overall, a pleasant experience.

I am a loyal customer of Peony Seafood, and I have been dining here for five consecutive years. In the past, there were occasional issues. For example, the manager Iris claimed steamed fish that was clearly dead for long as “live”. Nothing else was abnormal until tonight. While several nearby tables with elderly customers were served complimentary bowls of soup, none were provided to me. When I asked Iris about the discrepancy, she said everyone was so busy that soup was not guaranteed. When I asked her again after she was less busy, she did not know whether there was any soup left, and instructed me to ask the owner, a Cantonese man in his 60’s who was seated in an inner area of the restaurant. I approached the owner and asked him the same question. He responded, “I don’t know how dishes are served here. Go ask the managers outside.” As I stepped away to look for another manager, the owner followed me and pushed me with both hands. After I finally found one and began speaking with that manager, the owner stood near the cashier, pointed at me with an angry face, and yelled *x4 the young people in Cantonese. The owner’s physical contact, verbal abuse, and discriminatory treatment were entirely unacceptable. What a way to spend New Year’s Day. They are gonna lose more loyal customers for sure.

The moment I entered the door, I said hello to the waiter named Kim and told him that I had an appointment. I made a phone reservation at 2 o'clock. I wanted to make a reservation for dinner with them tonight, but they told me that they were closed. Didn't you close at 2:30pm? The waiter can't even say hello. You can imagine how bad the management of this store is! I hope the bosses here can improve the quality of training for their employees and let them know that this is open for business, not to drive customers away.

Do not come to this dim sum restaurant. Cheating. First time here. Made a reservation for lunch. When we arrived, we were brought to a room with all English speaking people there. Room is not comfortable and not enough space between tables and tables. They won’t tell you that the standard (basic) tea in this room for each person is $4.30 that is ridiculous expensive. Dim Sum dishes are pricey in this room. Any English speaking and new customers have to pay $4.30 for tea per person. Tea is cheap and no Chinese tea tastes. We never requested to sit in this room. No one explained to us there are price differences between this room and outside the room. Is this English speaking discrimination to pay more? Since I speak Chinese, but I am new here. Is this New customer penalty to pay more? And each to-go plastic bag $0.25 and each to-go box $0.25. All the big dim sum restaurants like HL, Koi….never charged to-go bag/box. Service is not good because they don’t have enough staff, so you will not get any immediate services and you have to wait for every service. I go to dim sum every week in Peninsula area, tea per person only $1.65 to $2 per person. Some restaurants will not charge you for tea if you go often. I never had this experience in my life in Bay Area. Don’t go to this restaurant. If you go, I highly recommend you to pay attention to the bill. Foods are oily. Price is more expensive than HL, Grand H, …….that are not worth it to go as taste is so so, with few dim sum choices. Its website online dim sum menu list has no price. Be aware that it is more pricey inside the rooms than outside the rooms.
