This is an amazing black owned spot in downtown Oakland. I went to a black tech meet up here a few months ago and I went back yesterday and it was worth it. Our waiter was amazing, the food was great, and the drinks did the trick. We didn't get to try the bone marrow but just about tried everything else. Will be going back. Food 9/10 - would be higher if they had larger portion sizes Drinks 10/10 - not crazy expensive and very good quality Service 10/10 - waiter was on point and gave recommendations Decor 9/10 - lots of color and cool decoration Price is high but food is good

Arrive Sobre leave with a culinary experience! Fabulous service along with a very exotic setting! The menu is selectively curated to bring out the flair of the culture. The cocktails and cocktails iced the evening. Place a twizzler on everything and share the tapas and plates.

Great cocktail bar for small groups. The Afro-lantio fusion makes for some delicious food! It’s safe to say I was not disappointed and will be coming back for more cocktails and food. The service here was wonderful. I sat at the bar and had a good time with talking with the bar tender and waitresses that walked past.

Great experience.. The drinks were great esp the Sobre Mesa. The tapas were good. We liked the warmed brioche, empanadas, goat cheese,adobo chicken pinchos. The service is great and the ambience and the decor is unique and we really enjoyed our evening here..

The food here is amazing!!! You've got to try the beef empanadas and the bone marrow😛 i had one of the best crafted mezcal drinks and a second because it was so good. Highly recommend this place for your pre show munchums if your going to the fox theater for some entertainment. This place serves it up right!!!

The fashion was bold, creative, and inspiring—every look celebrated self-expression and community. The cocktails and food were delicious, and the staff made the night feel seamless and inclusive. This event was the perfect blend of glamour, culture, and Pride—an unforgettable experience. I can’t wait for the next one!

Cute, buzzy date night spot: - Gorgeous, fun food with plenty of vegan options (get the yuca frites and plantains!). Not the best food I've ever had, but solid. - Great atmosphere - lots of low lighting, so well set up for intimate dates. - Amazing service. Jessica was outstanding: when we started asking if something was vegan, she checked with the kitchen and then told us the full selection so we wouldn't have to keep asking. Really helped the night go smoothly! Would definitely come back again & recommend others to come!

Amazing spot! I came here with a friend for the first time Friday night. The staff was so friendly. The bartender made me a special drink off the menu that was delicious. Another staff member rushed to get me a new napkin when he saw that mine had fallen. They also took pictures of my friend and I and gave us great recs for dance places to go to afterward. The cocktails were so great and the presentation was amazing. I loved the music there and the whole vibe of the place was great. We had a couple appetizers which were good but nothing to write home about. Everything else made it an exceptional experience and I will definitely be retuning

very romantic and atmospheric: perfect for a nice date for a keto loving couple… great service… went here on a first date and we shared a lovely meal I did not pay, but I think it was approximately $70 per person, including alcohol

Spent my 3 year anniversary here and had an amazing time. The food is so vibrant and the flavor profile are sweet and tangy. The perfect blend of citrus and tangy. My partner and I got these coool shots from the waitress because she heard us mention we were celebrating our anniversary. Will definitely be back.

Went for date night early in the evening (6-8:30p). Drinks were good, but food was missing flavor. Service should have been speedier given how quiet it was, but nothing was attentive or prompt… took 20 mins for our first drink to arrive, didn’t see our waitress consistently to re-order, asked for dessert (an ice cream sundae) to be expedited but had to leave because it took 10+ mins to arrive. Good spot for leisurely drinks - would t recommend for substantive dinner.

Every time I've been here the staff is very sedulous so be patient and check your entitlement. I highly suggest making a reservation to enhance your dining experience. It was wonderful that happy hour was available all night. I would have loved more time with our server and engagement with the staff but I understand they are busy busy! Do yourself a favor and check this place out and come hungry!

Every time I've been here the staff is very sedulous so be patient and check your entitlement. I highly suggest making a reservation to enhance your dining experience. Bathroom was acceptable and overall it was a good experience. Prices a bit steep but everything is steep these days especially in the area.

I watched Chef Nelson on Top Chef, so I was excited about my daughter, Rhonda taking us a party of 4 to Sobre Mesa in Oakland. We had reservations, the wait wasn't too bad for a Friday night. We were finally seated in the front left corner that seemed big for a party of 4. I did comment on that, but we were seated and we ordered drinks and looked at the menu. The food and astmosphere were good. We were still eating our food and the waitress (hispanic) came and told us there was another reservation and we needed to hurry. That ruined it for all of us. Here's the problem, nobody advised us there was a time limit when we were seated. The waitress brought our food, but she didn't check with us to see if we needed anything. I paid our bill which was about $400.00. The other 3 left the tip. I was extremely disappointed that the food and atmosphere were ruined by the service. Chef Nelson needs to fix that as instead of having a good restaurant, he could have a great restaurant!! I used to be a waitress in my younger days and for me the service was more important than the food. I don't know if I'll go back as that really bothered and hurt me. I'm not trying to be a problem, but I hope Chef Nelson will remember what it took for him to get to where he is. A restaurant is only as good as the service that is provided to the customers that come in and come back to support your dream!!!!!!!

Server/Host interrupted our partys dining experience by informing us that we needed to vacate the seating area prior to completing our meal due to another reservation awaiting seating. Food was outstanding! Service was far below the standard to be expected from a high-end restaurant.

Terrible service at Sobre Mesa. No greeting, no help, and when I politely asked the bartender about seating, she responded with sarcasm. The hostess, Kim, mocked me when I asked for assistance, and after waiting 10 minutes with zero acknowledgment, my girlfriend and I left. When I returned to grab a dropped key, the staff were openly talking about us. Easily the rudest restaurant experience I’ve had… do not recommend at all (even if I were starving) !
