Best Dosas in town. While Temple Canteen can be good next door (though sometimes their oil is not fresh), Dosa Hutt is better in my opinion - better coconut chutney, sambar, potatoes. Also better mango lassi.

Best and most authentic south Indian food ever! (Bangalore style of south Indian food). I have eaten in Los angeles, San Jose etc. I have never tasted food that really made me feel like I was eating in Bangalore again. In LA and San Jose, prices for dosas are around $7-10. But here for $5 you get such amazing dosas. I became a big fan. Love it. It is also right next to an Indian grocery store and Ganpati temple in case you would want to visit.

Most delicious south indian food in NYC! Amazing dosas, sambhar, chutney and wada.. everything was so good. Price is unbeatable! Loved the food. People working here are really nice.

Great vegetarian options...and prices are good. Decor for inside dining is more of a fast food atmosphere. Their lassie is delicious and fresh. Parking a bit tricky, but doable.

I’m honestly not sure what we got because I asked the lady to order two of their most popular items for me. We also got two desserts and a chai tea. Everything was really delicious. I can’t wait to go back.

Good iddly and plain dosas. I don't eat their coconut chutney as it's too spicy. I have started to eat their sambar though even if it's spicy. Been going here for 1 to 2 decades. In north america, it's still a good place to get a decent iddly and (for me plain) dosa at a very reasonable price. They have decent chai too.

The Pondichery Masala Dosa is amazing!! It’s a place that I always go to when ever I go to the temple! The menu is all vegetarian! The sambar is AMAZING!!!!!!!

From plain dosas, to set dosas, to masala dosas, Dosa Hutt offers plenty of dosa varieties. Some of the masalas such as the Pondichery one is spicier than others. Besides dosas, there are other dishes as well such as Pooris, Idlis, Vadas, Samosas. Idly Sambar is another delicacy if you enjoy Idli soaked in sambar. Madras coffee is a must plus the sweets at the counter.

Family favorite place, I can't say enough about this. I love the food and love the staff. After prayers or before. I find myself at Dosa Hutt. The food is amazing and the comfort in every bite is truly warning. I suggest have the sambar during the winter cold.

Excellent dining experiences here always. Their food is delicious, the portions are ample. Our party of 4 was served within 15 minutes of arriving there. The samosa chaat was really delicious and the portion was a bargain for the price! The staff is friendly and very hospitable.

This place is a hidden gem of NYC. With reasonable prices and good taste, this is the best place when you are craving for authentic South Indian food. However, I would say that it is better to come on non busy hours and days as I have noticed the food quality is better when there is less people dining.

Why did Christopher Columbus risk life and limb and stumbled across America? Because people wanted Indian spices, to the point where they will risk their life to get it. So finally I got to come here for the holidays after wanting to come here for years and it made me so happy to have their masala dosa and their samosas. It was such a treat, so delicious, just can’t go wrong with food that comes from a civilization that’s over 5 thousand years old. All their food is seasoned well and pairs with the sides. There are also a lot of Hindus that eat here and their food is authentic. Their mango lassi is refreshing and really good in between taking mouthfuls of their savory foods. I love their food, it was so good. How do you get vegetarian taste better than meat dishes? Go to an Indian restaurant.

Never missed a single time to stop by every time I visit the temple. As a result of those good experiences, we decided to order food for 60 people for my dad's 31st day remembrance and oh boy, they did a stellar job. Everyone highly spoke about the quality of the food. Also they made sure that food was available on time for pickup. Highly recommended.

M

Food fresh and delicious, and price very economical. Parking can be a little tricky. The decor is very basic, but clean...tables are cafeteria booth like..about 7-8 booths. All throw away plates/utensils...service good...you order and they call you to pick it up at counter...open view to kitchen...but you pay first before you sit down. One negative is decor/ambiance..... I wish they would warm up the decor a bit...make it more cozy.

This is my go to place for South Indian food. The idli just melts in your mouth and is always fresh. The dosas are exactly how I like it. The people are so polite and wonderful! Never rude. My only complaint is they don’t offer delivery and it’s difficult to make the commute as much as I like to. Other then that I am a very happy customer.

Dosa is always on point. Been going here since I can remember. Cam never go wrong eating here! Great atmosphere. Nice employees. I love that they extended the place so you can always get a seat and not have to worry about having to take the order out. Their new ice cream idea is pretty good too. Enjoyed the ice cream very much.

There’s Hillside Dosa Hutt in my neighborhood, but I specifically go out of my way to drive to this location in Flushing because the food is so much tastier. It’s completely worth the longer drive. Always delicious and the customer service is wonderful. They always recognize me as soon as I start placing my order over the phone :) Favorite dosa spot in New York!

Our go-to spot for healthy, delicious takeout. And you don't even have to be a vegetarian to enjoy their strictly-veggie food! No frills, authentic south Indian food, short wait time, next to Queens' huge, gorgeous Hindu temple. Everyone is friendly and happy to help you out with questions about menu items you might not remember.

Wonderful surprising experience. The cooking quality is eclectic. It was fine and authentic. It was satisfying and make you happy at the end. The cooking was done with fresh ingredients. Authentic and perfect. Quality is exceptional. Actually 5 star is not enough. The qualty of food is more than five star. Prices are down to earth. Just $15 per person including sweet mango lassi and sweets This is one of the best place to eat. You can take your kids, elderly persons and friends with you for breakfast or lunch or dinner. Variety of food is available and suitable for all age groups. All people will be happy. Very simple clean setting and close to Sri Ganesh temple in Queens , Flushing area. Must visit with friends and family. Every dollar you spend is a worth.

A little hole in the wall place for tasty made to order dosas. We got a plain dosa (nothing inside, so just the rice and lentil "tortilla" $5) and a potato dosa $6. No, really they were both tasty! They told us that the potato dosa is the least spicy. Fyi. The picture is one dosa cut into to pieces. Fyi again. Mmm.

Stopped by for the first time after visit to the Ganesh temple Nextdoor. Limited in sitting dine offered the opportunity to eat right there. Haven't eaten here in awhile and been eating at the canteen thinking it was better. I have to say dosa, urna vadda, idily and chutney was on point. Sambar can be better, but I was pleasantly surprised at everything else. I would be coming back here next time over the canteen when in this area.

Perhaps due to its past and salutary karmas, the new incarnation of Dosa Hut is a clean, well-lit abode for South Indian food—subsidized, it seems, by the temple for sinners like me. One can finally eat here without metaphysical anxiety. The vada, dipped in sambar, is their best dish. The idlis are exactly the right softness, and the coconut chutney has real depth—though years ago it was so hot it could send you to a proctologist. The sambar carries a bright tomato tang I find genuinely delectable. Sunlight pours through the windows, welcoming the sun god along with a wonderfully mixed crowd. It’s touching that people believe in gods and dress beautifully to speak with them. It’s no surprise the place draws a wide following—good South Indian food has a way of converting everyone. Welcoming, flavorful, and quietly confident.

First time trying South Indian dosa and it was really delicious. Got the masala dosa with potato filling and the samosas. The dosa was crepe like bread stuffed with subtle spiced potato filling and came with peanut chutney and lentil soup. Simple yet full of flavor. The samosas had generous filling so not your regular inflation samosas which is either tiny or barely has any fillings. No, these samosas looked like the aunty next door whipped it for you when she heard you were hungry (stuffed and big) and you get 2 samosas for $4. Amazing food at amazing price.

I'm totally biased since I was raised on this stuff but no other south Indian spot will beat dosa hutt. The dosas are delicious, the fillings are packed full of flavor. The uttapam is hot and crispy and flavorful. The paneer in the dosa was amazing The best part is the sambar hands down. It's been the same for like 20 years and it feels homemade and unique and I haven't been able to get anything close to it anywhere else India included. The coconut green chutney is my fave tooooo. So flavorful perfectly seasoned and delicious. Highly recommend always!

Dosa Hutt Restaurant is a South Indian gem located in Flushing, NY. The restaurant is a favorite of my aunt's, and she recently brought me there to try it out. I was not disappointed! Dosa Hutt offers a wide variety of South Indian home-cooked like dishes. I ordered the Potato Dosa, which was absolutely delicious. The dosa was crispy and light, and the potato filling was flavorful and perfectly spiced. I also tried the Pondicherry Masala, which was a chickpea-based curry. The curry was rich and flavorful, and I loved the combination of spices. To wash it all down, I had a Lassi, which is a yogurt-based drink. The Lassi was refreshing and tart, and it was the perfect way to end my meal. Overall, I had a great experience at Dosa Hutt Restaurant. The food was delicious, the service was friendly, and the atmosphere was casual and inviting. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great South Indian meal in Flushing, NY.

Went for the temple canteen which was closed due to a pooja, but boy am I glad I stumbled into Dosa Hut. Got to try the Pondicherry masala dosa, samosa chat and of course a filter coffee. Pondicherry dosa was cooked to perfection but I didn’t enjoy the tomatoes personally. Samosa for the chat was crispy and had the Mumbai style filling which was delicious. Thanks for the great home cooked meal!

I have been going to this place for over 10 years. The same people still work there. They are all very kind. This is the only Dosa Place in Flushing. It is really amazing to have one in this neighborhood, fortunately due to the temple next door. The dosa here is better than the dosas within the temple. Also, their samosa chaat is one of the best I've ever had. Love this place!

Pretty good food. Don't expect it to be like India street food. It's moderate spicy .. spice does not mean chilli. Spices means all the spice that they choose . Those are not exact Indian but it's accordingly as per people here eat so it's fine. Thts why it's 4 star

H
Hashfl Asfsfh

1 star less because the sambar wasn't good. Too bland and tasteless. Other than that, the masala dosas were perfectly crispy without being overdone or burnt and the vadas were just amazing with the coconut/green chili pepper chutney. Perfect amount of heat. The staff were very friendly, spoke to me in our regional Indian language which was really heartwarming. I took my American friend there, he loved it, so can't ask for a better compliment to our authentic south Indian cuisine lol!! Definitely worth going there again!!

We REALLY like this place. Good Cantonese style food and great service (for a Chinese restaurant)! If you can't read the fixed course menus because you can't read Chinese, you're not missing out on authenticity. Everything we had was good. Fried flounder with fins so crisp you could eat them. Garlic sautéed snow pea shoots were mostly leaves not stems. Roasted chicken with customary shrimp chips was tasty. Seafood with pan fried noodles was laden with the fruit of the sea. The beef we ordered was a little TOO tender (sadly I don't know what that dish was). We could continue on but truly, this place was just solid.

Y
Yilmaz Singh

Food Quality is consistently above average. Menu offers simple South-Indian items, well prepared, well seasoned, fresh, and without fuss or extravegance, although some dishes offer a western twist. Less greasy than you'd expect for dosas at this price, so, if you are ordering take-away, expect your Dosa to sog a bit by the time you eat it. Service is very quick - expect to wait no more than 10 mins for your order. Seating can be a challenge during peak hours, so expect to wait 20 - 30 minutes at lunch on weekends. Customers tend to be devotees leaving the Ghanesh Temple next door mixed with a few daring first-timers. Mood is generally neutral if not a little sedate. Accommodates families and groups easier than singles or pairs. If South-Indian food is new to you, this is a great place to start as the spice levels are pretty tame on most items. That said, you will not find yourself wanting of additional flavour. If South-Indian food is not new to you, you will feel the western tameness on the flavour but not to a detrimental level (quickly-served Madras hotel levels). An exception to this is the mini Thali which will achieve tears for most western eaters and a familiar level of heat for urban Tamilians. Dosas are a little on the thicker side. Food is always hot (temperature). I suggest being prepared to eat with your hands if you intend on really enjoying your food. Restaurant is clean and simple. Atmosphere is very casual, diner-style (or stall-style) in good condition with few decorations. Booth-style seating can be limiting during busy weekends, and noise can rise to a hum between 11am and 2pm. You can maintain a conversation but you will also hear everyone else's conversation. Staff is friendly and accommodating with patience for first-timers and humility that will make you blush. The restaurant is run with typical Tamilian hospitality and a picture of Sri Sathya Sai Baba sits behind the register reminding you of a priority for service over self here. It is almost impossible to leave unsatisfied. Parking can be a chore, be prepared to walk a couple blocks. Family of 4 can be satisfied right around the $40 mark, coffee included. I reccomend the Dosa Chatt for the faint-of-heart, and any mini Thali for those seeking enlightenment. 1 star removed for missing menu items that occur a little too frequently.

Always excellent dosa and sambar. Small place but clean. Prices are competitive. Spinach and cheese dosa is so cheesy and yummy!!!! Masala tea is always just perfectly made...rasmali sweets is so soft, heavenly pillows of joy....I tried majority of the different stuffed dosas and haven't been disappointed. The low carb dosa is okay....but I probably wouldn't get it again....

S

4 stars for food. 1 start for customer service. Pros: Authentic dosa in the city with great variety of options ranging from veg biryani to idly vada and combo. Cons: vent out time here! The Only complaint is that customer service isn't great and below par. The girl taking the order was on another call all the time and was rolling her eyes on simple questions about price check. They don't have labels on sweet section and when you ask the employee about the price she gives you a ridiculous look like it was my problem and she vaguely says it should be on the top. Seriously big No!

Good for south Indian food lovers. The food they serve is fresh and tasty, most importantly at reasonable price. place is not cozy and fancy but yes, Food is really good. Quick service. We got some food packed to go. The idlis were soft and freshly prepared. Chutney was good but the sambar was watery. We also got a plate of thali. They gave us chole, daal and sabzi (veg). All the dishes were spicy for our palate. Overall a decent meal at a reasonable price.

Food is good. Portions are not that big for a big eater like me. A dinner combo should fill me up but didn't so I got a slice of meat lovers pizza ($4) a block away. I think it should be a law to give a little more for dinner combos. It's better for the customer to get more than enough so cannot finish it and throw it away, then to have a customer to get less and feel hungry afterwards. If I feel hungry, it was an appetizer and should not be called a dinner combo.

S

Sambar quality has gone down. They have added too much water in Sambar. Too dilute. A few months ago, the sambar was thick, and I was able to see the pulses in it. Now, it looks like Rasam. Why has the quality gone down?

K
Keith Hwang

I'm not an expert on South Indian food and I don't pretend to know what makes a good dosa, but I got the Masala dosa from here and it was flipping great. Also got samosas which were great as well. They only gave one styrofoam cup of sambar, but it's more than enough, probably enough for 3 orders. They did make me wait a long time for my simple order and I was the only one in queue, so not sure what happened there. Good food, questionable service.

The food here is super yummy really really tasty. However the woman working there wont even let you take a plastic plate if u didnt buy anything from there first she will ask u if u bought smth then she will let u use the bathroom and take a plastic plate or napkins. I have been there many times and loved this place but this was really strange behavior and i felt embarrassed and ashamed even though i had spent $30 on the food here today. They really need to fix her attitude or fire her. This behavior is exactly what makes Indians come across as cheap and money hungry people.

Dosa Hutt is one of the best South Indian restaurant in Queens and I love their food but yesterday when I ordered Mini Thali with Roti, the exp was not good because they had used store maida rotis and it was horrible exp. I would recommend if you are ordering Mini Thali please don't chose roti or avoid ordering rotis. I am like, how can a restaurant use a store rotis (one of those roti packets you get in India Stores) instead of making inhouse. Dosa Hut - You have a nice reputation..please don't let it go by taking these short cuts.

One of the worst experience. Visited on 08/31/19 around 6.30 pm. They served Sambar in Cofee cups. I saw proper Sambar bowls in their kitchen & asked for those. The guy who claimed to be a manager first said that I don't know how to eat - Sambar is always served in glass and not in bowl. I politely told him that I am 60 years old & don't need eating lessons from him - asked him again if he can give me the bowl - his response was 'these bowls are expensive' - this prompted me to ask him that is this how he talks to his customers? And his response was that he is in this industry for 21 years. This is the problem with many Indian Restaurant - they are rude, poor customer service. Fault lies with us, we encourage them by not saying anything and make them feel as if they are monopoly. Yesterday there were 15 other customers and though many privately agreed with me, no one stood up with me. Shame on us. I asked to speak to the owner but obviously he wasn't available. I hope that he has some decency to respond to this.

I had to change the rating for this place due to my recent experience. Go to this place if you have no dignity and want ti be humiliated. The staff is very very rude and has no respect for the customers. The food no doubt is good but you have to trade off between good food and humiliation. I think there are places that serve good food and also respect their customers. Stay away from this place.

Today i went to dosa hut, i have visited this place a few times before and food and service was okay but not great. I go there once in a while because dose is my favorite dish. However i had a very bad experience, never ever had such worst experience i customer service ever. Does this type of customer service exist in US???!! I ordered 3 different dosas for myself and 2 other friends, however they refused to give 3 sambar/chutney(curry that comes with it) and insisted i pay more for each chutney/sambhar which didnt make sense to me, total rip off!!!! Food just below average!!!would never go there again!!!!!The guy in the counter was veryy veryy rude!!!

This place has changed a lot over past a year. To note, taste and quality has gone down, while prices of all the items has gone up a lot. We remembered this place from last visit, but everything this time was disappointing being it dosa, idly vada or poori, you name the item and they have made sure they have messed quality and taste. this was my last review: Place was good for great south Indian cuisine. Food items were really delicious and were made in authentic way. But, additional servings of side is charged separately. Restroom was not clean. Ambiance could be better.

Went there to have a meal after ages and was very disappointed. My order was half cooked and it's not what it used to be. I wish them good luck and hope they improve on their quality and service. Given the pandemic, it's very understandable if a place is not able to provide service but if the food is not cooked properly, how do you justify that ?

Very Bad experience. Today we went there and ordered for two dosa, samoosa and mango lassi. The guy in the counter is 'Mr Rudy'. Customer service a 'Big Zero'. Earlier it was better. They need extra dollars for curry(sambhar & chutney) which everywhere else is free. Total rip off. very Bad experience!

Very disappointed With the owner’s behavior today. He has a store near the temple and yet he was so rude to my mom. We bought some coconut barfi and didn’t think it tasted fresh. When we took it back to the owner saying we would like to exchange it because it’s not fresh. He had the audacity to tell my mom “ don’t lie to me”.. how can anyone be so rude to an elderly person? She was so shocked and hurt as to why should she lie? Truly truly disappointed with such behavior metted out to an elderly lady

I have been going to this place over 15-20yrs , I use to recommend it to all my friends & family. After I moved to Atlanta from NYC, I was craving for it so much, when I went there i dragged my friends with me but what a disappointment, my friends were laughing. When we ate the Dosa it was like only boiled potatoes with Haldi only. No taste at all. I will never go back !

Very bad dosa hut customer service. Worst customer service experience. We Went today paid and asked for parcel, came home to see missing part of the order. Called to find out, The lady ( Farrah) said it’s my mistake I did not remind what to include in the order. They are busy and they forgot and they want us to go back to get the rest of the order which we paid for. They do not want to deliver. Unbelievably rude and worst customer service. Beware !! and make sure to check your order before you leave the place otherwise they get away with it.

Used to love going here. Recently my mom orders her usual, dah vada. They didn't give her the chutneys it usually comes with it. When I asked for it the guy says it doesn't come with it. Then rudely walks away. I was willing to pay for it because we always get extra anyway. So we took it home and added our own chutneys. It's a shame because I've been going forever. Now when I'm there I go to the temple for vegetarian Indian food.

The quality of the food has gone down substantially tbh. My memories of this place was top notch south Indian food made my Tamil aunties. That's long gone. The entire staff is not south Indian now and every dish we order was subpar and even sambhar was more like daal. Given the options of good south Indian in Queens, one should avoid this place. It's getting traffic based on the hype of their yester years and prior staff/owners. To boot, they had hair in their masala Dosa which we pointed out and the guy with some kind military cap didn't even apologize or offer substitute...instead started arguing. Jeez... avoid this place

I came in with my family and ordered 3 types of dosas, the Pandicherry, Plain Masala, and Spinach and Cheese. The Pandicherry and Plain Masala dosas were good, no issues, but the Spinach and Cheese Dosa was terrible. It was too salty, especially the dosa itself. I go up to the worker and asked for it to be remade, instead they offered me a plain dosa. When I took a piece of the plain dosa, there was oil all over my hand and this dosa was even saltier. It was uneatable and the cheese smelt like it was expired, and to add on the health grade certificate is on the side of the building rather than the front and is graded a B. Overall, the food/service could have been a lot better, very dissapointed.

Don't be fooled by the prices here , I guess that way people fall for this restaurant. Located right next to the temple , it's keen to get more customers from the temple regardless of the temple canteen. We ordered cheese masala dosa and rava dosa ,both were really bad as the dosa wasn't cooked well and the cheese melt was really bland while the rava dosa was too crispy. I would honestly prefer the temple canteen and made a mistake going here.
