Absolutely incredible experience from start to finish. This Italian spot in NYC was everything you hope for....warm, inviting, authentic, and full of flavor. Every dish tasted fresh and thoughtfully prepared, from the pasta to the sauces, with that comforting, elevated Italian touch that’s hard to find. But what truly made the night unforgettable was Kevin. His service was next-level. Attentive without hovering, knowledgeable, personable, and genuinely kind. He made us feel welcomed, celebrated, and completely taken care of. You can tell when someone truly enjoys what they do, and Kevin absolutely does and it shows in every interaction. Between the amazing food, the cozy yet lively atmosphere, and Kevin’s outstanding service, this was easily one of our favorite dining experiences in NYC. We’ll definitely be back and hoping Kevin’s working when we are.
First time coming to this restaurant and the experience was top tier . Douglas and the team made my husband and I feel welcome, and seen. From the calamari , to the cannoli the food is amazing . We were even blessed to leave with pasta that was being made fresh . Thank you thank you to the amazing staff , especially Douglas and the gentleman making pasta .
This place was honestly so good. The food, the service, the whole vibe — everything just felt right. We sat with a nice view of Little Italy street, which made it even better. We tried a bunch of stuff: fettuccine Alfredo with chicken, spaghetti carbonara, pappardelle bolognese, penne alla vodka, and a prosciutto pizza. Every single thing was fire. I love Italian food, and this spot really gets it right. Also, the cocktails? So good. Like actually good — not watered down or too sweet. There were four of us, and we were full by the end. Big portions, but the quality was still top notch. If I ever come back to this city, I’m 100% coming back here again. No doubt.
Dining at Da Gennaro was absolutely fantastic. From the moment you walk in, you feel the true Italian charm. Warm, welcoming, and full of character. A special shoutout to Douglas, who is incredibly professional, attentive, and genuinely cares about every guest’s experience. His leadership clearly shows in the outstanding service and smooth operation of the restaurant. ¡El mejor! Muchas gracias Douglas.
Amazing experience the food was such an really Italian taste !!! Our server Nenad was good the lady I believe our buzzer was very attemptive .. and as a cherry on the top was Douglas he close our experience with 100% great customer service kind and very professional … a place to reccommend in little Italy ♥️
Great food! The spaghetti bolognese is delicious!! Aldrin was our waiter and he was so attentive. Everything came out fast and was so fresh! Douglas is the manager and he made sure to come around frequently and was so kind, he also speaks Italian!
Late morning walking around Little Italy for the San Gennaro Festival and thought this restaurant with outdoor seating looked nice. Very inviting and at 10:30 was already serving food and bustling. Ordered a cappuccino and bruschetta. Wished the bruschetta came with 4 pieces instead of 3, but it was tasty. Cappuccino was excellent. Nice early stop. They were serving brunch items and lunch, drinks too.
Sauce in the eggplant dish was absolutely delicious; I tried my friend’s margarita pizza and the sauce was the same in terms of quality: so delicious and rich! My espresso martini was the best I had during my four day stay in New York! Would deffo recommend to anyone craving rich and authentic Italian food in little Italy! All of my friend’s drink felt so hand crafted with attention and flavor that let me know the bartender takes their role seriously !
We had a wonderful time here for dinner. The ambiance was welcoming, lovely, yet cozy. The real candles give a nice flair. Our service was top-notch professional and friendly. Our waiter just seemed familiar because of how he treated us. It was lovely. Our table ordered the lobster ravioli, beef cannelloni, bruschetta, and chocolate soufflé. Absolutely no notes. Well done!
I came to NY on a work trip with my mom and was here for a week. I hit up all the famous food spots and let me tell you, Da Gennaro stood out from everywhere else. The food, the service, and atmosphere was absolutely incredible. I came 3 times and absolutely loved it every single time. Matteo my server was absolutely awesome and attentive and the manager Dougles came and checked in on my party every time. 10/10 recommend.
Amazing service and food but the atmosphere is absolutely incredible! The music is what drew me into the restaurant. Our waiter Elvis did an amazing job accommodating our party of 6 outside by moving umbrellas to keep us shaded and comfortable. The pasta is handmade and ingredients are fresh - they even have gluten free pasta. Also loved their cocktails and Chianti! If you need a meal but are overwhelmed and can’t decide then congratulations, I just decided for you - you’re coming here.
Stumbling across this restaurant was the best part of my day! Walking down Mulberry, it can be tough to decide where to eat. We were immediately drawn to this restaurant because of the hostess Wish. She was extremely kind, inviting and so confident that we would love the food.. AND WE DID. The pasta is made fresh and the wine selection is amazing. I’ve never been to Italy but I can only imagine that this is as close as I will get. A very authentic place with a great atmosphere and great team! Thank you to everyone for making our evening so amazing! Be back very soon :)
If you miss Italy, the Italian spirit, the Italian atmosphere, and real Italian dishes, you should definitely visit this restaurant and this small environment where you can feel the real Italian spirit.🍝🍹 I tasted the Caesar salad, burrata, carbonara, and I really liked it. The service was also pretty good.🥰
This was a beautiful night. The food was amazing. The staff was great. Evis was such a delight. He gave great recommendations fri amazing food. He was attentive and the food came out fast. My salmon was perfect. The garlic lemon sauce was everything i wanted and more. I highly recommend. Thank you front great night.
A truly wonderful experience from start to finish. The food was delicious, with authentic flavors and beautifully presented dishes. But what really made the difference was the service — they made us feel right at home. Every detail, from the warm welcome to the last cup of coffee, was flawless. The entire staff treated us amazingly, but we’d like to especially highlight ANDRES F., who was attentive, kind, and made sure everything went perfectly throughout our visit. We were celebrating my mom’s birthday, and it was absolutely spectacular. The food, the atmosphere, and the warmth of the service made this celebration truly unforgettable. Thank you so much for making this day so special! 🇮🇹✨ We’ll definitely be back — highly recommended for anyone who loves authentic Italian cuisine and first-class service.
I’m writhing this review as I’m eating. Probably one of the best Italian foods I have ever had and that’s comparing to me visiting major cities including Europe. The food is fresh and it has so much flavor. Also, the salad’s dressing is probably the best I had this year and in a long time. I always hated that it’s always salty or blend. It was a lovely dinner.
Thoroughly satisfied with de Gennaro’s. We hopped in to avoid a rain shower based on the presence of homemade pasta displayed at the host station and left completely satisfied with this lovely lobster ravioli.. the only negative of the place is the music selection which is sort of a early 80s movie soundtrack from Grease or any other number of disco related movies.
Truly amazing. Didn't realise this was a hotspot in Little Italy and greater America - appearing on numerous American entertainment shows. Stumbled across it, and am greatly delighted to have chosen here to eat on my last night of my vacation. Miguel was a WONDERFUL server - all praise to him, and the greater team. He took the time to know me, keep me company, and provide excellent care as I solo-dined. Will be back when in NYC. :)
Tonight I was blown away by how amazing everything was—the food, the vibe, and the service. They have such a wonderful team, and we were lucky to be served by Matteo who made the experience even better with his kindness and professionalism. The live opera singer truly made our night special and the experienced one of a kind. If you’re looking for a great night out, this restaurant is definitely worth the visit!
This is the best place for Italian I’ve ever been. The staff are so very welcoming and don’t pressure you to come in. Aldrin was our waiter and he was extremely attentive, smiley and helpful. The photos are from a video as can’t post videos here but all amazing. The eggroll with ricotta to start, delicious, lobster ravioli, is the best pasta ever and everything homemade. The vodka sauce on it as well is incredible. It’s very stuffed full with lobster. Cheesecake light and delicious. Tiramisu silky and so tasty. Not overpowering of liquor.
This was our first time eating at this restaurant. We have been in New York 6 days and have to say this was the best restaurant we visited. Nina and Miguel were wonderful they never had us waiting on drinks or food. As stated food was delicious and espresso martini was top notch. Definitely would recommend to anyone visiting New York and planning to head to Little Italy.
This Italian restaurant is an absolute gem. From the moment you walk in, you’re welcomed with a cozy, authentic atmosphere. The food is outstanding—fresh ingredients, perfectly balanced flavors, and clearly made with care. The pasta was cooked to perfection, and the sauce was rich and flavorful with that true homemade taste. What truly made the experience exceptional was the manager. They were incredibly welcoming, attentive, and clearly passionate about making sure every guest felt taken care of. Their presence elevated the entire visit and made us feel genuinely appreciated. The service overall was friendly and seamless, creating a dining experience that felt special from start to finish. Whether you’re coming for a romantic dinner, a family meal, or a night out with friends, this place delivers on every level. We’ll definitely be back—highly recommend!
I stumbled in for lunch and the staff was friendly and attentive. I got the fettuccine Alfredo and it was one of the best I’ve ever had!! The restaurant itself was super cute and really reminded me of restaurants in Italy. Highly recommend. It wasn’t busy when I went so I sat immediately
Nina was an amazing server, extremely friendly and very warm. The food was very fresh, tasty, hot from start to finish; I could tell it was fresh out the pan! I couldn’t speak highly of the manager Douglas!!!! He greeted us as soon as we sat down, helped us with understanding the menu and even helped me modify my pasta choices to satisfy my liking. We got a tour of the restaurant to see how they made the pasta and the transition to the kitchen and arrival to our plates in under one hour of being made. I am highly pleased and overwhelmed with satisfaction! My tummy and taste buds are happy. I’m heading back to Atlanta with a taste of Italy in NYC :)
I had an absolutely incredible experience at this Italian restaurant. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt warm, welcoming, and genuinely inviting. You can tell this place is run with care. Doug, the general manager, sets the tone for the entire restaurant. He was attentive, professional, and clearly passionate about making sure every guest had a memorable experience. It’s rare to see leadership that’s both hands-on and sincerely invested in hospitality and it shows in every detail. Our waiter, Aldrin, was outstanding. Friendly without being overbearing, knowledgeable about the menu, and spot-on with his recommendations. He made us feel like valued guests rather than just another table. Timing was perfect, service was smooth, and he checked in just enough to make sure everything was flawless. As for the food phenomenal. Every dish tasted fresh, authentic, and thoughtfully prepared. The pasta was cooked perfectly, the sauces were rich and balanced, and the flavors felt like they came straight from Italy. Even the small touches the bread, the presentation, the pacing of the courses were done beautifully. This wasn’t just dinner; it was an experience. Between Doug’s leadership, Aldrin’s exceptional service, and the incredible food, this restaurant absolutely exceeded expectations. I can’t wait to come back.
Victor served us and was so very amazing! He was consistently so kind and checked up on us to make sure we were taken care of and answered all our questions. The chicken fettuccine Alfredo is the best I’ve ever had and I’m extremely picky about the pasta I try. I’ll definitely be back for more everytime I’m in the city!
Great place to have good Italian food. Located in Little Italy. I had freshly made Gnocchi with pesto. It was delicious and the consistency and flavor was perfect. I ordered bread to wipe the plate clean the sauce was so good. I also hade the Caprese salad. The tomatoes were not as flavorful as I would have liked but it is winter time and out of season. I believe that was the only thing that made the salad a 4 star would have been better with Campari tomatoes. The lasagna was very well constructed. The noodles were al dente and not over cooked or dry, the sauce was flavorful and robust. The tiramisu was delicious the mascarpone wasn't over sweetened and the lady fingers weren't too soggy, as I have found with many other places. The Atmosphere was delightful and the decorum was divine. The service was very good as the place was packed out and could hardly walk between the tables. The restrooms were clean and well stocked.
A GREAT spot in Little Italy! The food was so good, so fresh! The pasta is home made. Service was ten out of ten. Very grateful to Douglas the GM who checked on us consistently. And our server Victor was so nice and answered all our questions, thank you so much! You gotta get the chicken parm and the vodka sauce. The mint julep was also super refreshing Douglass And victor
My sister and I always come back to this amazing restaurant. We use to have the prosciutto pizza, our favorite, but last time we got the carbonara and we loved it. The cocktails were pretty tasty, specially the godfather! The ambience is comfy and the staff is really friendly and helpful. Mateo made the experience way better with his attention. We were so satisfied. Definitely will come back as we do.
Huge thanks as well to Nino, our server, who was amazing. Friendly, knowledgeable, and always attentive, she made us feel comfortable and truly well taken care of. Her recommendations were spot on and elevated our entire dining experience. So kind! The food was exceptional, made with top-quality ingredients. Highly recommended and definitely a place I’ll be coming back to.
I always have an incredible time here. The food came out quickly and very hot. I ordered the burrata truffle paccheri and the sauce was delectably creamy. My mom ordered the shrimp and pesto pappardelle, which she said was very fresh, hot and flavorful. Our server Elvis was very attentive. The manager Elvis checked on us multiple times and brought us a cannoli on the house. He shared a bit of history about the restaurant and told some funny jokes. Dining here made for a wonderful afternoon!
First time visiting this restaurant and was a delightful experience. The host outside was so attentive and explained to us the menu, also my daughter had question and he was nice with her and invited us to get into the restaurant. Our visited was February 13th around noon and the place was not full. We tried cheese pizza, lasagna and spaghetti bolognese. Great attention, super fast and delicious meals. Price accordingly to the place and location. Service was great also. Recommend and definitely will come back when visit New York City again.
Made it to Little Italy, in New York and walked into Da Gennaro Restorante Italiano and were greeted by Miguel and Nino. They both, made us feel comfortable and were very accommodating. Miguel gaves a brief history rundown on the history of this very well known and famous restaurant. So, happy we decided to stop here. Thank you, Gracias y Grazie!
In the very heart of Little Italy, where Italian culinary tradition blends seamlessly with the energy of New York City, you’ll find Ristorante Italiano Da Gennaro. The carbonara deserves special recognition -prepared strictly according to the classic recipe, with no compromises. Perfectly cooked pasta and a velvety sauce made from egg yolks and pecorino create a dish that is authentic, rich, and deeply satisfying. This is a place you visit not just for a meal, but to experience Italian culinary culture in one of Manhattan’s most iconic neighborhoods.
My first time here and I’m in love! The staff, atmosphere, music (taylor swift 🫶), and overall vibe was 10/10. If I could rate this place 100 stars I would! Shoutout Matteo, he was our server and he was awesome!! Very nice and helpful navigating the menu. Here’s a picture of the bolognese that I substituted papardelle for instead of spaghetti and it was incredible!
Our first time to Little Italy. It was exceptional. We were greeted by Wish at the curb who made some adjustment to fit us in. Our waitress, Nina was fantastic. She had a real motherly sweetness. Douglas runs a smooth operation and we will definitely be back after the welcoming experience we had.
To experience the iconic San Gennaro Festival in Little Italy is amazing. This is our 3rd time and each time we come away with such memories of the food, people and the culture! Husband is a New York history buff and we had the pleasure of eating at Da Gennaro (that used to be Umberto’s back in the day where ‘mobster’ Joey Gallo was gunned down). The lovely hostess sat us by the wall that even had the bullet holes (!). Anyway, at the festival, it was crowded but wanted to give it a try. It did not disappoint. Food and wine were absolutely delicious. We dined on mussels, lobster ravioli and a seafood/pasta dish. Miguel was our guy and he was kind, professional, efficient (let alone so busy). We had such a great time! Thank you Da Gennaro!

I had the fried calamari, which was decent but definitely overpriced. The calamari was so small that it could barely feed a toddler, and the plates were tiny. I ordered the Cannelloni, which was good, but I left the restaurant still hungry. Despite the overpriced food, I would recommend this restaurant to friends and families. They’ll have to order double to feel satisfied. The location is nice, though.
We walked into Little Italy and were immediately hit by their "sidewalk salesman" to get us to come in. I do wish we had walked into Little Italy first to see all of the options but we were hungry and ate here. The service was good as was the food. The owners/managers checked on us several times, and the place was nicely decorated. It felt authentic. I'd definitely go back!
Appetizers were excellent, especially the stuffed artichoke, meatballs, and bruschetta. The Margherita pizza was disappointing since it came out more like a plain pie with basil on top. Service started off fine, but once our food was brought to the table our server was nowhere to be found. Despite that, the food overall was enjoyable and the setting was pleasant.

Not pictured is the calamari which was actually pretty great. Went on a Saturday night so ofcourse we understand the restaurant being on the busier side but it took almost an hour and a half btwn our appetizer and entrees. We got the paccheri all vodka, paccheri melanzane, chicken Milanese, and seafood risotto. Everything was tasty but the chicken Milanese was on the colder side. Not to mention, it was my cousins birthday and when she was in the bathroom we tried to inform the employees if they could do any little detail with dessert. They didn’t. No big deal. The cheesecake and tiramisu were classic and delicious. Then after asking for the check multiple times they bring it and hand it to her … the birthday girl. Overall, decent food but I would stay away from the drinks it doesn’t seem to be their specialty.
Ordered the Mezza Aragosta Fra Diavolo. The pasta & sauce itself is 5 ⭐️ but the seafood brought it down. One mussel I had was sandy, the lobster and crab leg were difficult to eat, and an absolute mess. The clams were tiny but the shrimp were good! Tap water was not good, so $8 Pelligrino was needed. Friendly service & he said the vodka pasta was TikTok famous, but I wanted something I don’t make at home. Overall cute spot.
I ordered the market-price lobster and shrimp pasta, a glass of Riesling, and coffee with cream and sugar. The lobster was $54. Unfortunately, the dish fell completely flat. The pasta, lobster tail, and red sauce were bland and lifeless—no depth, no balance, no soul. Nothing on the plate popped. Nothing tasted fresh. There wasn’t a single note of brightness or seasoning to bring it together. There was one exception: the lobster claw. It was exquisite—the best bite of the meal and, honestly, the highlight of my day. Sadly, it was the only bite I enjoyed. Beyond the food, there were small but noticeable issues. The table was shaky, and the silverware and water glass lid were placed upside down directly on a dirty table instead of on a clean napkin—an avoidable detail that matters at this price point. That said, the servers were excellent. Attentive, efficient, well-presented, and genuinely focused on providing good service—they absolutely delivered. I tipped 20% for the service, but I know I won’t be returning. Leo The Lion 🦁
I had the rigatoni gennaro and i liked the tomato cream sauce. We sat outside and there's a lot of outdoor seating. Overall, the food is good.

Too crowded, thus noisy.. Was told menu prices were wrong. They added another $ to each entree. Also confusing payment transaction due to not having individual tabs. In the end was overcharged …
In general Little Italy has gone down hill. As for this restaurant the food is average and over priced. Service is so-so. There is nothing impressive here. Small portions. We had the antipasto, portobello mushroom, grilled Octopus, for dinner we had the seafood Risotto and the seafood Oregnata. Come to little go Ferrara's have and dessert and check out all the little shops. As for restaurants N/G. You want good Italian food go to Arthur Ave in Bronx's or Brooklyn or Staten Island or Northern NJ. Not here. The restaurants were once great. No more. Glas of wine is house wine. N/G. Lunch $250.00 one glass of wine. 2 people. Last but not least. They not bring bread out. You have to beg for it.

Disappointed in De Gennaro. Went to eat here 3 years ago and it was delicious. Ordered Door Dash last night and it was horrible. Pasta was all mushy and soft like overcooked by 20 minutes. Meatballs tasted like wet paper towels soaked in tomato sauce. No flavor. Did they change chefs?? Or ownership because it sucks now
Good food ,awful service. Asked for salt and pepper 3 times, first time no one came back, second time they came back with only salt. Third time we asked a server from a different section to bring us pepper. Server didn’t seem to care about checking in. Found hair on pizza but at a restaurant so crammed and busy it didn’t seem appropriate to complain. Overall 2/10. Food didn’t make up for the bad service.
