da umberto is delivers a very good restaurant experience. the room is comfortable, the service attentive and efficient and the food is very good. that said, the prices are formidable and at this price point da umberto does not stand out from other restaurants in this range. i also do not take kindly to a wine list that doesn't offer a red wine that costs less than $60 a bottle. while the two bottles we enjoyed were very good, they should be.
Wow!!! All I can say is wow. The food here is out of this world. Had the truffle ravioli, endive salad and salmon carpaccio. Everything was a 10 out of 10. Must try. Randomly just discovered it and best find in the city.
Lovely service, food and atmosphere. The servers and managers were kind and helpful. Helpful with wine selections. I loved the calamari (artichokes in it were so good) and truffle ravioli. Will be returning!
One of the best Italian restaurants in NYC. Such a hidden gem. Perfect blend of flavor and presentation. You can’t go wrong here. We love the prosciutto and melon.
If you want the most authentic Italian experience in NYC, you must come to da Umberto. The food is truly special. The pappardelle with artichoke and leeks were fantastic; you could tell the pasta was made from scratch, and the products were as fresh as any of the best restaurants in Italy. The appetizers - a cut above the rest. The orto (assorted vegetable platter) were so simple, and so wonderful. Even the beets tasted better than a steak at Peter Luger's! Finally, the main dishes were OUT of this WORLD. The special chicken alla romana was immeasurable, while the other chicken dish was truly divine. Da Umberto was able to mesh culinary genius, heavenly taste while still adhering to the classic foods of Italian cuisine flawlessly and without much effort. Finally, a note must be said to Andrea (our waiter) as well as Giuseppe. It is rare to have such charismatic staff to really guide you through a free-flowing influx of wonderful tastes, and make for an overall wonderful night. Grazie ragazzi!
the outdoor set up is really charming and the food is so delicious. Best Caesar Salad I've had in a long time and the spicy pasta with clams was perfection. Well done!
We ate indoors yesterday for the first time in ages it seems. The staff was incredinle and the food was even better. We had an amazing tomato soup then grilled octopus and a pasta with clams and chili. for mains the tuna which was percectly grilled and the filet mignon both large and perfect portions. I will return often as this is now my new favorite Italian...
Had a wonderful “date night” with my wife. Service was gr8 as well as the food. They could not have beef more accommodating! Highly recommend!
My Italian home away from home! Everything is tasty. The pasta is awesome, especially the special ravioli that changes often. The staff is very friendly, experienced and professional. Save room for desserts too.
This was a random gen found . The Tiramisu is a must. Light, fluffy and homemade. Pasta options of a half size is a bog win. I will be going back. Chef and staff know what true Italian dining is =.
The ambiance is fantastic and wait staff are extremely attentive. The food was incredible as well! As a non meat eater I didn't have a problem choosing an appetizer and meal! Vegan options are limited
My partner and i had a phenomenal dinner at da Umberto last night. Each dish was superb- especially the chicken parm. There was also great service - everyone was super nice and attentive. Highly recommend this restaurant!
Very nice and unassuming Italian restaurant. The rigatoni is to die for - there's a reason it is the longest standing menu item. Great selection of wine and super efficient service. Highly recommend!
Excellent! Service was outstanding & the food was delicious. Nice atmosphere. Sat outside, so we didn't have to wait. The chocolate rum gelato was so good. The rissito with chicken livers & gravy were outstanding!
A wonderful and cozy Italian restaurant for business meeting or just for a chat, Da Umberto is the place to go, not to mention great traditionally Italian foods and some. So come on down to Da Umberto and you will taste what I'm writing about.
Environment: Simple and Elegant. Sound level: We could actually hear and be heard! A rarity these days. Service: They couldn't do more for us. The Food: Everything we ordered was absolutely superb. For a fifty something, a sixty something and a 94 year young mother the evening was perfect all around.
Such a great classic neighborhood Italian place. The service and the food are great. My wife and I live a block or two away and go often for dinner dates. The regular bartender is a charmer!
By far, in my opinion of course, the best Italian in the city. I've been going here for over 10 years now and the food is always on point. While I try some new things from time to time, I usually stick with the grilled squid and shrimp scampi for appetizers, followed by a pasta mid course where they let me try 3 different fresh pastas (I go with the truffle ravioli, spicy capilini, and whatever they have as a special that day, and finally I either go with something on special for an entree like their filet with pepper cognac sauce or their bone-in veal parmesan which is unfrigenbelievable
Food we ate was perfect!! Super recommended. I had such an amazing time here plus staff are friendly. I also love their instagram-worthy place!
Go to NYC classic Italian…. Absolutely wonderful… have been going for years… and it has stayed remarkably consistent…. Not easy to do in a world of food fads and passing fancies…. Old school Italian at its best!
We were recommended here by friends from NY, and wow, what a great place. Really welcoming, we first had lunch there and then booked again for Friday night. Great vibe and even better food - the specials were great, and even the humble carbonara was delicious with the fresh made spaghetti. Very attentive without being too much - a fab night and highly recommended!
Everything we ordered at da Umberto was delicious! Highly recommend and great service by Luis!
Excellent service, food, and ambiance. Our server Louis was an amazing waiter! Very welcoming!
Absolute perfection. I've been eating since 1930 and may have a different viewpoint than the younger diners that are in a rush to eat at the latest "hot" restaurant. I like perfectly cooked food, a warm and calm decor, and a very low noise level. All of this comes together at Da Umberto. It is pricey, but for the price you get real value. My family has been going there for decades, especially when we have something to celebrate, but also just for that nice quiet dinner.
We sat outside and we had no reservations. It was about to rain. The staff were outstanding. They found a place for us and while it rained we stayed dry. The food, the service and wine selection were all fantastic. We tried salad. It was fresh and right amount of dressing. The bronzino fish was done perfectly. We skipped dessert. All in all during a pandemic this was a great meal and a great experience.
Excellent excellent service. True Italian feel from the beginning to end, and we will be back! We had a reservation later in the evening but plans changed so we asked to get seated earlier. They made it happen. It started to rain, but before it poured, they already had another table ready for us. While it was raining only inches away, it was a magical dining experience. Suburb hospitality that cannot be best. Everyone was so professional. Thank you!!!!
Dinner last evening was the first time I have eaten at a restaurant since March. I felt safe - there is social distancing and safety protocols are followed. The food is amazing! Fresh ingredients impeccably prepared. The cavatelli is outstanding. The service is accommodating. Can't wait to go back.
We ate here impromptu tonight, since we were just walking around looking for an interesting place to eat. The wait staff was great, and the manager found us a table even though they were booked up. We loved it! Great service, fantastic food! We ended our meal with a panna cotta with cherries that was absolutely delicious. The cappuccino reminded of being in Rome. We would definitely recommend and certainly return if we are in the city again.
Gorgeous meal and wonderful service. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. Not average — but truly delicious. Also, we arrived near closing and the staff went above and beyond to serve us a wonderful meal and did not make us feel rushed despite the city’s strict closing time bylaws (which we followed). We cannot wait to come back and enjoy the rest of the menu. Michelin star is truly well-deserved. Bravo
This is our go to neighborhood Italian restaurant. The staff to customer ratio is higher than any restaurant, the staff all work together to attend to the customers. The food is always consistent and delicious with high quality. Their dishes aren't smothered in too much sauce or cheese to fill you up, but you can actually taste the dish you ordered. And their presentation isn't too fuzzy eityer. I usually get their specials, appetizer and a main like the veal (Milanese). I love taking visitors there as well. They have good selection of Italian wines, super Tuscany or Chianti. Save room for their home made tiramisu, which is creamy and moist but not overly sweet.
We came here on a Friday night. Busy but seated immediately. Arugula watermelon salad so fresh and tasty. I had veal marsala and licked plate clean!! Excellent
We've been to Da Umberto's many times to celebrate various family events, but the last time we went was the best yet. Jon Paolo (the manager) and the rest of the staff made us feel like family. They went above and beyond with their kindness and care. Not to mention, the food was to die for!
Beautiful, peaceful, elegant Italian restaurant with absolutely excellent food, service and atmosphere. It's a great place to bring a date -- even your spouse. Prices are Manhattan reasonable and worth every cent.
Dined with another couple on a recent Friday and was not disappointed. From the octopus to the pasta to the chicken parmagaina, I was blown away with quality (in a city of MANY food Italian restaurants) and flavors. Outstanding spot worthy of all the praise.
Delicious food - Feels like it should be unhealthy because it’s so good, but it’s actually healthy (I asked because I needed to know). Great outdoor seating and you don’t feel like you’re near the street - quiet block. Also the inside is a quaint and happy vibe. Stumbled upon this spot & made me realize I missed the city. Friendly staff. If you like good food and good wine, go!
I live nearby and we eat here a lot. We have always had a delicious meal and outstanding service. In the time of Covid they have gone above and beyond to make sure their customers are safe, warm and taken as care of outside as well as they were inside during "normal" times. Always a treat and always the place my family wants to celebrate a special occasion.
Fantastic date-night spot with rustic and authentic Italian cuisine. Not a single complaint about any element of my meal - the service was excellent, food was perfectly cooked, and the ambiance was one of a dimly-lit but homely & welcoming vibe. Would highly recommend for anyone looking for a delicious Italian option in Lower Manhattan.
Da Umberto is simply the best. Been coming here for over 10+ years and it’s in a league of its own. Those who know, know.
Service is consistently top-notch. Quick to take your cocktail order, which I love. Eagle-eyed servers will spot an empty wine or water glass and swoop in. The food is excellent. Always a good variety of specials. A classy place that has never let me down.
Do you ever just happen on the best time? I am so fortunate to have family near the City. They came for dinner. Friend had a friend suggest this wonderful restaurant. And the five of us feasted, drank, laughed, and indulged. The evening could not have been more perfect. The food! We tried a little bit of everything. I had the classic cacio di pepe, scampi, tiramisu, along with the yummy phony Negroni. I also tried the appetizers on the table. Everything was delicious. A perfect NYC evening.
What a beautiful neighborhood Italian experience. The space is warm and inviting. The staff is both completely professional, but also friendly and committed to ensuring that you enjoy your evening. The menu is solid, with nightly specials. All is fresh and generous, nice wine selection. I cannot recommend da Umberto more highly and very much look forward to my next trip to the city for a return visit.
Three of us for dinner. Shared the veal meatballs and frito mistook appetizers. Both were excellent. We arrived at 6:30 and conversations were easy to have. By 8:30 the room chatter filled the room and we had to raise our voices to have a conversation. We will definitely return because the food is excellent as is the service
This is one of the top restaurants in the city hands down. My husband and I go at least once a month. Go, it's absolutely perfect!
Great food, good vibes. Service by our waitress Deyhann was 10/10. Would definitely recommend.
Plainly said, there is not a better restaurant in Manhattan. Food and service are outstanding in a well appointed space. An abundance of choices, you will not go wrong. Great wine selection and scrumptious deserts.
Stumbled in here one night without a reservation and they were able to fit us in so long as we left by 730 for a booked table. They provided and incredible 3-course service in only an hour and we were blown away by the service and food. A very authentic Italian experience. Cant wait to go again, next time with a reservation.
We were visiting a friend and we went out for dinner. The restaurant was very busy and frenetic. Everything we ordered was very good and the service was provided by several attendants.
I WENT THERE LAST NIGHT FOR THE FIRST TIME WITH A FRIEND AND HIS DAUGHTER AND SON-IN-LAW. I JUST FELL IN LOVE WITH THIS PLACE. THE FOOD IS OVER THE MOON. THE SECOND YOU WALK IN THE DOOR YOU FEEL AT HOME. OUR WAITER WAS JUST MAGNIFICENT AND SO WAS EVERYONE ELSE THAT ATTENDED ON US. IT WAS A FANTASTIC EXPERIENCE. A SHOUT OUT TO THE GOOD-LOOKING CLASSY GENTLEMEN WHO MADE IT VERY CLEAR BY HIS ACTIONS THAT THE SATISFACTION OF HIS CUSTOMERS WERE THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO HIM. A+++++++
I had the best time at da Umberto my server was great, the food was great and the atmosphere was amazing. The service really brought it all together, my servers name was Lues if you want to get fast service and an attentive server ask for him. Will recommend it to every body
AMAZING food AMAZING service!! Luis read us the specials and recommended dishes as well as worked with the chef to make sure all of my food was gluten free (i have celiac disease). He took great care of us all night. Almost every dish was able to be made gluten free. I was told the chef even hand-makes gluten free pasta. The ambiance was very nice, our water glasses were always kept full, and our table was refreshed in between courses. Thank you for a wonderful birthday here, da Umberto's!!
We have wanted to try da Umberto for a while now, but don't go downtown much. Tonight was our lucky night as the place we visited earlier was right across the street from da Umberto, so we finally gave this establishment a try and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. The food was solid, and the service was amazing. This is a great place to have a special occasion, Italian meal.
Wow! Was brought here by friends and had an incredible dinner. From the wine choices to the specials, everything was on point. The antipasti appetizer of roasted vegetables and shrimp scampi was delicious, paired with a glass of Gavi di Gavi. The rigatoni was al dente with a savory ragu and enjoyed with a glass of Super Tuscan. The chocolate mousse cake was a great ending to the meal with a glass of Amaro Amarino. Recommended.
I was actually looking for the Mediterranean restaurant next door and stumbled upon da Umberto and I am so glad I did. The decor is simple but welcoming and they have a really great wine selection and menu. I visited on a Sunday evening and opted to sit at the bar. I was greeted with a warm welcome and smile by one of the servers who answered all of my questions and helped me select an amazing white wine to pair with my entree. Abby was amazing!! She was kind and extremely helpful. I mentioned to her that I recently got braces and she explained each menu item and recommended the softest chicken meal , which happened to be the daily special. The chicken was flavorful and really tender, they used a balsamic glaze and fresh herbs. Initially I didn't think I would finish it because it was so much but I guess I was hungry lol because I left no crumbs. I learned from Abby that the restaurant has been around for over 20 years and is a local favorite. I'll definitely visit again
Da Umberto was a hidden gem, for us, in the neighborhood. We noticed they received a Michelin star this year, so we went for Valentine’s day. It was impeccable. The service was outstanding and the staff perfected the details. (For example, we weren’t provided a food menu until after we got our bread and wine.) This really made the experience enjoyable, and less transactional. The rigatoni was TRULY to die for. Someone at your table must get this. The truffle ravioli was also exceptional, although it is lighter, so it’s better for sharing. I will absolutely be back! Loved our experience.
Very nice place, great food and ambience-- and wait staff. However, my GLASS of Barolo was $30! And there's no wine list, so you must ask for prices
Excellent Italian restaurant! Even though it isn't a very big location it is roomy, so no fear dining with complete strangers next to you. Service is impeccable and the food equally as excellent. Of particular note is the lack of annoying noise which makes it perfect for business lunches, dates, or you know, when you actually want to hear the person you are dining with.
Very good classic Italian food and service. A little bit pricy for what you get but certainly not bad. Be sure to ask the prices of the specials before you order the $60 veal chop. Save room for dessert.
Da Umberto has a thorough friendly staff featuring a good variety of menu selections including small plates and entrees. The Rucola, Burrata and Proscuitto appetizers were delightful. The entrees, in particular Costoletta do Vitello and Pasta with Black Truffles, were the tables favorites. Our only negative was the white wine by the glass recommendation. With so many outstanding Italian vineyards, why Chardonnay?
The pasta dish is amazing but the lamb is so-so. Dessert is $15, on the pricy side while it is not tasty to justify the price. Overall, we had a good experience.
Upscale classic italian. When you walk in you immediately get a bittersweet longing for the past, but you also look forward. Will be back
Enjoyed myself and was fine with paying $$$ for a nice meal. But the (undisclosed) price of some of the daily specials was shocking. I ordered a pasta special that showed up on the check at $85, which is not reasonable without a warning from the waiter.
Delicious food, attentive staff. Loved the extra touches, like olives with your bread before the meal. Prices were a tad high, but it's high quality Italian food. Wasn't terribly impressed with the napoleon dessert, but the pasta was wonderful.
Our Italian friends adore this place for its excellent Italian food and Old World style, which can feel stuffy. Highly attentive wait staff should have warned us that fresh linguini with shaved truffles (seasonal foodie special) was $150 a plate. Otherwise, a date night to remember.
This is a great location to grab a drink after work at the bar or to have a celebratory meal. It's not cheap at all, but the food is beyond amazing in a classic, not too overdone setting. The staff is VERY attentive, the decor is great and they know their dishes and wine lists. I would return again but wish the portions were bigger given the hefty pricetag.
Great Italian spot in the Chelsea area. We were here with a large group of 20 and made arrangements for the back area. They plan out group settings well and we seemed to have our own private section. So it would be a great dinner spot for parties. Service was top notch. Good selection of house wines and we had red wine flowing through the meal. Highlights on the meal were the anti pasti dish. Nicely grilled veggies. The lamb shank with risotto. Tender lamb but the risotto i felt was a bit undercooked. The dessert sampler was great to top off the meal. What stood out for those were the tiramisu and the ricotta cheesecake. Delicious. Pricey but you get top notch service, food, and ambiance. I would definitely be back for a fancier night out.
Spent a valentine’s night here. The atmosphere was so good and perfect for a date night, however the food was just okay(maybe it’s because the valentine and everything was in a rush) veggies were too salty, and other dishes were just okay, not something you would immediately say “so good”. At least it’s not prefixed and the price was reasonable. Overall recommend it for couples who want a romantic date.
I’ll caveat this review that I had reservations at 2:45 and they close at 3 pm so the situation is not ideal but that’s no excuse for execution at this fine establishment. I started off with asking for their house white wine. Can’t recall the ambit it was crisp and refreshing, perfect for a lunch meal. Although at $18/glass, you might think twice. The octopus dish had one flavor:burnt. I didn’t taste anything else. That was a bummer. The spaghetti with clams was out of this world deliciousness it saved the entire experience. Perfectly executed. It may very well be the best spaghetti dish I’ve ever had. The bucatini was also perfectly cooked. Overall, solid but felt rushed and uneasy, partly because of me but also with the staff running around the restaurant. It’s not a cheap venue so my expectation will be high. Will return as I think this is a one off and the restaurant probably deserves a 5*.
Very old school Italian American . Very pricey for what they offer : 3 SMALL ARANCINI (small as a cherry ) $22 it’s a bit crazy. Rigatoni bolognese was ok, I couldn’t find the sausage since it was all sauce. Bucatini amatriciana your could not taste the eggs cause was just oil and pancetta. Great atmosphere and service.
This place came highly recommended so we were pretty geared up for the experience. No doubt they have a great atmosphere and the service was attentive, albeit a little pushy to try to get each patron to well over $125 a piece on food alone. I personally started with the prosciutto and melon, which was a very paltry portion, moved onto the squid ink ravioli which was well cooked but surprisingly bland and finished with the pork chop with cherry peppers which was quite good. For a establishment with these prices, I would expect excellence in execution of each course and two of the three left me wanting. Not sure if we will be back as it seems to be a risky endeavor considering the price and dish consistency.
Meh. There’s really nothing special about this restaurant. We ordered caprese (off-menu) and it came with three tiny slices of Roma tomato and three slightly larger pieces of mozzarella, arranged like a flower on the plate. I asked for my pork chop to be cooked “a little pink” but it was totally over cooked so I spent my entire meal sawing through the three inch cut of meat (which would have been lovely if prepared correctly). Service is good. The space is clean. Will I make a point to come again? Probably not.
My fiancé and I went to da Umberto for our engagement dinner (I proposed the day of the reservation). I wanted to spend quality time with my fiancé at dinner on this special day but felt as if we were rushed unfortunately. I had mentioned that this was our engagement dinner to staff. We ordered drinks and the server asked that we order the full meal at once (appetizer and main course) in case we have a meal that takes a long time to cook (the server mentioned that it could take ~45-60 minutes to make some dishes). That is understandable. I ordered the polipo as an appetizer and the raviolacci and elefante as our main entrée. We ate our appetizer and within two minutes, the main course came out. Of course we had to eat it because we didn't want it to get cold. My fiancé and I were in and out of da Umberto within 75 minutes of our reservation starting. I understand that the restaurant is trying to get people in and out as soon as possible but I didn't expect that on my engagement dinner. Have to mention that the host was very nice.
The food was just okay. I’ve been to many Italian restaurants in the past few years, and this is not the place I would bring anyone if I wanted to impress them. I wasn’t sure if it was just me, so I asked around the table and everyone else was equally underwhelmed. Otherwise, it’s a cute place and the service is good.
Food was so-so. Two of our dishes were overcooked. The octopus was a sad portion that was overcooked. The bone-in veal chop was tasty but totallly overcooked. The carpaccio and truffle ravioli were really good. It felt like they were really rushing us. We could barely drink a sip of wine before they were pouring more. Was that good service or them trying to turn a table quickly???! Not sure.
Good, but I was expecting more. To be honest, Da Umberto captures the feel of an oldschool Italian American restaurant of the eighties. I found myself recalling Little Italy with the smells and surroundings--even down to the waiters, who would add nonsensical commentary about the wines on the table. Unfortunatly, this is now more of what you'd expect as a tourist, and if it's what you crave, you can probably still find it in Little Italy. The food also mirrored the standards you'd expect at Mott st. Vitello Tonnato was good , not great. Roasted Brussels were good, far from great, and grilled Pork Chop was cooked medium-well--a total shame, and again, something you'd expect from an establishment in the eighties. I wanted to love (even expected to love) Da Umberto, but was ultimately let down.
We decided tonight to go back to Da Umberto, it’s been awhile so we decided to become NYC tourists again. What do I mean by that we knew we’d overpay by 30% on the bill but it’s NYC and the restaurant does have history as “a place to go.” We started with an octopus appetizer, a “seafood risotto with shrimp,” which was bland and and not cooked long enough. In addition an arugula salad and the special house pasta. No great memories here. Entrees where the chicken milannese done very nicely, tuna served at proper temperature and 2 veal milannese dishes both a bit dried out and overpriced. Service was mediocre at best, servers tried clearing dishes while others were still eating. If you want to spend 4-5 star $ do your homework, there are to many great restaurants in NYC for less.
Tonight 09/02/21 was really disappointed, bad service with only 4 tables in the restaurant and having 7 persons working on the floor, I don’t want to think what you provide as service when you are in rush time… To be honest if you charge high price for simple food try to be more professional and focus on your tables guys. First of all I had to request my silverware, napkins after 15 min seating but the bread was on the table then my girlfriend and I had the pleasure to see through the window the bartender eating behind the bar from outside, I was about to ask her if the salad was good?! The server never check on the table if we loved the food or needed anything, he just disappeared. My two star go for the busser topping my glass of water and the table clothes. Ciao Umberto.
Expensive and so over rated. It's a caricature of the manhattan dining experience that Brooklyn and Queens has all but made archaic. Super small portions of pretty food served by underpaid immigrant staff. Food and atmosphere was average, staff were adequate price too high.
Ordered the small ravioli and it came with 3 pieces, taste was great but not worth $17! The burrata tasted sour and basil had a plastic texture as well.
Our first 15 or so meals at Da Umberto were good, usually very good. We went back last Friday after not going there for about 6 months and were really disappointed by the quality of the food, especially based upon the prices. My eggplant parmigiana was badly burnt, our Son’s salmon was mediocre and our Daughter’s Bronzino wasn’t anything special either. Our Daughter’s Boyfriend is a huge eater and he didn’t even finish his Meat Risotto. Not sure that we will be going back. We probably should have told the Manager, the kitchen quality control was absent. Lots of other choices for Italian food.
240 DOLLARS FOR SO SO is just sad....the waiter from Mexico was very nice. Even our cocktails were mediocre. I even asked for simple syrup to try to perk it up. A doctor from out of town wanted Italian food. He said a colleague liked his dinner here and asked could we go there. As we left, he said...I guess I should have asked what they had ordered. Oh well. Oh....do not order dessert! We walked over to EATALY for gelato....now that was divine.
A group of six of us decided to go eat at Da Umberto on a whim decision. Although the ambiance was good, the food was altogether lackluster. Three of us had the pork chop and we all found it was overdone and dry, not to mention the broccoli rabe side, which was inedible. The octopus entree was also unusual and to top it all off, the biscotti they served to us as a final treat was an absolute letdown: soft and crumbly - the furthest thing from the crispy texture one would expect.
Tonight I went to da Umberto for a nice outdoor meal. The food tasted great and the service was great… but THE RATS were unexpected! They were crawling right next to me and my partner in middle of our meal!! GROSS. We jumped out of our seats and told management immediately, asking for our food to be wrapped and the check. We couldn’t finish our meal, sitting next to THE RATS!! But, THE RATS weren’t the worst part, it was how management handled the situation. We got a “it’s New York. There’s RATS”. We didn’t get an apology or here’s what we can do for you. We got an arrogant, inconsiderate manager that didn’t try at all to make it right. I told the manager I’ll never go back. He didn’t care. For those reading this, there are many other better Italian restaurants in the area. Suggest taking your business there. The food will be better, the management will care more about their customers and you won’t need to share your dinner experience with THE RATS!!
What a shame. Food was very good but our party of six was rushed throughout. It was one thing after another from receiving our menu without being provided a wine list first ( asked the waiter to slow down) to taking plates, wine glasses and coffee pot before they were completed and having to track our waiter (Fredy!) down for additional food/drinks. But nothing compares to the arrogant Maitre D’ who I approached saying we were rushed through dinner who said “ We need your table, we need your table - you’ve been here since 5 (wrong!)”. My Father spent over $700 tonight - what shameful GREED.
I returned to this place because I had wonderful memories from my previous visit to New York. I recognized the waiter who had served us before and greeted him. I eagerly perused the menu, excited for a great time and delicious food. The waiter immediately suggested the day's specials without showing prices. Since I was in the mood for pasta, I decided to go for the recommended pasta of the day, thinking it would be the freshest and best. The most expensive pasta on the regular menu cost $35 - but only with truffles, while the other pastas ranged from $20 to $25. Imagine shock and disappointment when the bill showed $65 for the mushroom penne (price before tax) that I had chosen. It wasn't homemade linguine or pappardelle, just plain penne... for $65! I will never return to this place! I feel ripped off and my evening was ruined, and it supposed to be special.
My husband and I dined here tonight and we’re very disappointed. I’ll start by saying our service was good. The bottle of wine was good. The food was lousy and flavorless. Extremely overpriced for the quality. Deeply disappointed as we wanted good authentic Italian dining experience and the fell short.
If you feel like experiencing what a war zone would feel like, then this is the place for you. The staffs hostility, aggressiveness and intensity is enough to make you feel like you’re in downtown Beirut during scud missiles. The short ribs were delicious, however the attempt of being creative with risotto by including corn and dried up bacon was probably not the best creation. Let’s leave corn out of risotto. That is not a good match. The service was absolutely intense. They must’ve come and asked us several times if we wanted dessert, I kept telling them to give us some time. This should be a dining experience and not a race, especially after a long week of work I would like to enjoy a meal and not be constantly hustled.
Rip Off! Not what it used to be! Quality of the food is awful. Osso Bucco had no flavor and small portion. Veal piccata was tough not edible. AND to really upset the night , We ordered the “special “ pasta with truffles !!! The waiter did not warn us of the RIDICULOUS price!! $190 for a bowl of spaghetti with a few shavings of truffle! Are you KIDDING ME?!!! Absurd! Never again!
I have never felt so cheated before—definitely not like this. We came as a large group and asked for a drink menu, only to be told that they don’t have one, but that there is an open bar. This meant we had to order drinks without knowing their prices. When the bill arrived, it was over $200 per person for entrees that were supposedly just around $25 each. I can't believe it! What a scam! The food was only mediocre. I strongly advise against going there; it’s hard to trust them.
Chaos. Please redecorate—it’s dated and bland. Way Overpriced. Staff are messy, made us feel rushed and frenetic. Never again. Save your money. I’m a New Yorker but think the tourists have invaded.
