Low key, fairly humble, and absolutely delicious. The warm hummus plate was some of the best hummus and bread I’ve had in a while—simple but perfectly done. The lamb kofta was juicy with just the right amount of gaminess and the cheeseburger was just right, too. Great service and a ton of food for the price!
Fantastic Turkish/Middle Eastern food in Downtown Brooklyn! Check out the lunch specials!
Great service great food, small space
I’ve eaten here a few times. Always takeout but food is delicious!!!!
Absolutely fantastic! The lamb shank was tender and flavorful, and the baklava with vanilla ice cream was to die for. Every bite was perfection. 100% recommend this place to anyone looking for an authentic and delicious Turkish dining experience!
Super delicious! Ordered fried liver, a kebab on top of mashed eggplant and grilled vegetables So delicious Also the waiter is hella hot
We ordered several dishes and the food was delicious.
Good Mediterranean food. Service was exceptional. Highly recommended!
Choose this spontaneously for dinner. It was absolutely delicious. Came here for dinner with a family member. The burger is 11/10 delicious. Great atmosphere and the staff was very kind. I would come again
The ambiance is simple and clean Turkish aesthetic. The food is 1000/10. It’s amazing! Well seasoned. Portions are generous must importantly you will want to come again. It was my second time and I must say it was even better than the first. Delicious experience with really good food.
Humas is good unless pork chop!
Nyc has a plethora of dining options. And yet, i've been here no less than 10 times. I've brought family and friends on 4 occasions. It's just that good. 1) nice place - you sit down and can talk and have a calm meal. The staff has been consistently great. 2) love the decor (lamps, pictures on the walls) 3) the menu is delicious. I love the salmon shish so much it's the only thing I order now. Just salmon steaks (flaky deliciousness), grilled tomato and onion, and a good serving of salad with olive oil. Put lemon on everything and have a delicious and healthy meal! I can't stress how good the mixed appetizer is. The mixed grill is huge! 4) turkish coffee and desserts are good too - blakava is big!
You must go here! The hummus is DELICIOUS, service is ALWAYS super fast and attentive, chicken Adana and lamb chops are great! Reasonably priced. I’ve lived in this neighborhood for 6 years now and this is always a go-to for lunch or dinner. We even hosted our welcome party dinner here for family coming into town for our wedding. We were able to reserve a table for 20 something people and it wasn’t a problem at all. Everyone loved the food and atmosphere.
I ordered this spread to go along with Rick Steve’s’ Monday Night Travel on Istanbul, and I was blown away by the food. I got the falafel plate, the esme pepper dip, and feta-spinach rolls (sigara boregi). The falafel and feta rolls were very good, but the esme dip was the highlight! The tomato and peppers gave this juicy brightness, with a perfect balance of heat and spices. The order came with this fluffy round bread, chile sauce, hummus, and a white sauce (something like toum?). I reheated the rest of the bread for breakfast—even crispier fresh out of the oven. I would love to visit in person and try more of the menu. Definitely recommend getting the esme dip, whatever you get!
This is my third time here I love the food, staff are very kind. I will definitely come back again and again
I love this spot its the best food on earth. When eating the lamb chops and finish off with the Tiramisu is better then sex. As you can tell lol The waiters are very attentive. The owner is such a beautiful person everytime I come with my family he makes it feel like home. I have recommended this place to my neighbors where I live in Hackettstowns NJ. 👍
Authentic Turkish Cuisine in Brooklyn! We fell in love with Mediterranean cuisine since our first visit to Istanbul but figured out that it’s big a deal to find a place with authentic Turkish cuisine outside Turkey :( Yesterday we had dinner at Deniz and that’s the place! Every dish was delicious! Oh, what a juicy kebab, tender sea bass, mouthwatering cold appetizer mix, soft and crispy baklava we had there! And gorgeous Turkish coffee rich in flavor! We haven’t drunk such kind of coffee for a long time! Service was excellent! The waiters were swift and gentle. Thanks a lot for the owner and the stuff for such a great dinner we had!
We came here after my graduation, conveniently straight behind the Barclays. For an occasion to remember; the food was spectacular!!! Everything was well cooked and seasoned to perfection. From the calf liver, hummus, to the platters to even the RICE and HOUSE SALAD. Every meat items was tender soft and juicy. ESPECIALLY THE LAMB CHOPS, so good we ordered another after everyone was done. Never had such great lamb like this before. But for really everyone was impressed with the amount of flavor with everything included the rice and salad which we also had to take home. really recommend if you want Turkish food. THE STAFF AND SERVICE WAS EXCELLENT, for they even accommodated my Dad to have a prayer space during Asr and Isha time. Deniz is something to talk about everytime we’ll talk about my accomplishments of graduating
Food is always fresh and tasty. Been to a few Turkish places in NYC and so far this is one of the better ones. Staff are friendly and helpful. Price wise I would say it's value for money- given the quality of service and ambience. Also visited here during COVID and their outdoor seating is decent.
For my husband's birthday, we decided to celebrate at one of his cherished Turkish restaurants, conveniently close to home. As you approach, the restaurant's unassuming exterior conceals the beauty that lies within. Once inside, the subtle Turkish decor adds a delightful Mediterranean touch. Upon entering, you'll notice a bar to the left and the main dining area, with the option for outdoor seating. We opted for a diverse dining experience, starting with cocktails and an array of appetizers, allowing us to savor our favorite flavors. My husband selected the Deniz cocktail - a delightful blend of Tequila, Aperol, passion fruit, fresh lime, and a hint of agave. I, on the other hand, went for the refreshing Whatamelon - a concoction of Ketel One, fresh watermelon, lime juice, and agave syrup. Service is impeccable and the food freshly prepared when ordered. Our appetizer selection was equally impressive: 1. **Stuffed Grape Leaves**: A Mediterranean classic done right. 2. **Pink Queens**: Roasted beets, mixed with lebni, walnut, garlic, and homemade mayo – a unique and delicious combination. 3. **Steamed Mussels**: A flavorful blend of butter, shallots, garlic, red pepper flakes, wine, mussels, lemon juice, and parsley, with a choice of white or red sauce. 4. **Zucchini Pancakes**: These pan-fried zucchini pancakes, infused with zucchini, dill, parsley, cheese, eggs, and flour, were elevated by a garlic yogurt sauce. 5. **Sigara Boregi**: Crispy phyllo scrolls filled with feta and spinach – a delightful crispy treat. 6. **Falafel Plate**: Deep-fried chickpeas and vegetables, expertly spiced with Middle Eastern flavors, served with both tahini and hummus. Each dish a celebration of Turkish culinary expertise , and we left Deniz Restaurant with our taste buds delighted and my husband's birthday wishes thoroughly fulfilled.
This authentic Turkish restaurant is located at the heart of downtown Brooklyn yet it’s far enough away from the clamor. We loved the food. Their tossed salad and pilav were on point, their kebabs were also well marinated. They gave the traditional rice pudding a twist by adding vanilla and topping it with ground cinnamon. The service was friendly and the owner (?) treated us to Turkish coffee. Their prices are reasonable for what they offer and considering the location. They also had a nice outdoor seating with cute lights. Definitely recommend and will be returning
The setting here is beautifully done. The kitchen and servers both earned praise. Dishes connect us to global traditions. His friendly demeanor created a delightful debut experience at Deniz. Delicious selections and the space feels welcoming...
We had lunch outside and it was great. The lamb shank with eggplant and mashed potatoes was perfect and so was the appetizer sampler. They were wery accommodating and attentive and it all added to a wonderful time before our show at BAM. As a note, I think the Turkish cuisine is underappreciated. It's of a vast diversity, perfected over many centuries, very elaborate, with deep flavors, healthy.
This restaurant is one of the best in Mediterranean Restaurants New York City and Brooklyn; the service is amazing, and the staff are always so sweet and accommodating. Last night we celebrated my big sister’s 50th birthday with a dinner. She had Bronzino with rice and a salad. I ordered the fillet snapper, which was amazing, and it came with a salad and mashed potatoes. Mom ordered chicken kebabs, and Mom’s friend ordered lamb. Everything was fantastic. If you’re ever in New York City, you have to check them out they’ve been around forever and are truly amazing. I could literally eat here every day. Sidebar the Hummus is delicious!
We visited Deniz Restaurant as a family of four and had a great experience. The food was delicious, portions were very generous, and everything tasted fresh and flavorful. The service was excellent, very friendly, attentive, and welcoming throughout our visit. Great atmosphere overall. Highly recommended!
Me and my EBC sisters had an amazing time today at Deniz on Fulton st. the service was amazing very attentive and very polite food was delicious Faruk service is amazing and the bartender very nice great smile very handsome
I was greeted very warmly upon entering the restaurant. The ambiance was warm, and I loved the menu design. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive. They answered questions we had about menu items and made suggestions. I ordered the Lamb Gyro, Kunefe, and a Blood Orange cocktail...all of which were very good. I heard that brunch at Deniz is good, so I'd like to visit again for bruch.
Reminds me of Istanbul!! As a frequent traveler I enjoyed my time in Istanbul, Turkey🇹🇷. One of the best things was the food so when I came back home in 2020 I searched for Turkish food. I’ve been coming to Deniz ever since then. The service is friendly , the atmosphere is great and the food is excellent. Deniz is a nice cozy restaurant with authentic Turkish food and decor. The rice, house salad & Salmon kabob is my absolute fave. I only wish they had Bulgar on the menu!
A local Turkish treasure! Very homely, cozy environment, family friendly spot, the staff were very attentive and accommodating. The crowd was a mix of girls night out, couples and family. It’s for everyone! The meat (both chicken and beef) was rich and tender, with fabulous spices. Met some locals there who frequent this spot who said it’s a long standing favorite among the Brooklyn’ers, cant beat their cuisine. After enjoying a perfect dinner, I can see why.
I love this place. I been coming here about 9 to 10 yrs. Never got disappointed of the service and every loving thing they do to make you comfortable. I wish I could say more just come and you will see and taste what I am talking about love all of them
Deniz serves dishes that show real skill in the kitchen. The dessert menu here confirmed my usual preference. If I'm around here, I'll come back for sure. The team exhibits outstanding hospitality and the environment feels genuinely enjoyable. The spot provides numerous outstanding features.
Everything was perfect as always. The service was fast and friendly, and the food was excellent again. I also tried the chef’s new special dessert — it was amazing! I highly recommend trying it before it’s gone. I also really enjoyed the traditional quince dessert; the texture and flavor were spot on.
An incredible dining experience from start to finish. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, the service is attentive without being overbearing, and every bite is packed with authentic flavor. You can feel the care and tradition in the cooking, and it truly elevates the whole experience. This is the kind of place you’ll want to come back to again and again.
Deniz is an absolute gem! From the moment we sat down, we were welcomed with warm, fresh bread that set the tone for an incredible meal. We ordered the Special Beyti Kebab, which was perfectly seasoned ground beef mixed with onions, parsley, and aromatic herbs—grilled to perfection and served with a fresh house salad and fluffy rice. The Chicken Chops were another highlight—expertly grilled, juicy, and bursting with flavor. Every bite was delicious, and the service was just as outstanding. If you're looking for authentic Turkish cuisine with top-tier flavors and hospitality, Deniz is the place to go! Highly recommend!
Deniz in Brooklyn is an absolute gem for anyone who loves authentic Turkish cuisine! From the moment you walk in, the warm ambiance and friendly staff make you feel right at home. I had the pleasure of trying several dishes, and each one was more flavorful than the last. The lamb shish kebab was tender and perfectly seasoned, and the chicken Adana was fantastic as well– the baba ganoush was incredibly fresh. One standout is the bread, freshly baked and served warm. The attention to detail and quality in every dish is clear. Deniz offers generous portions at reasonable prices, which makes it an even better find. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable, offering great recommendations. anoush was incredibly fresh. Their drink menu offers a great selection of Turkish wines and cocktails. They also offer non-alcoholic options, and they also have authentic Turkish teas and juices, which are a refreshing treat. To top it all off, their dessert options are wonderful. We tried the kunefe, which was warm and deliciously cheesy. If you’re in Brooklyn and craving Turkish food, Deniz is the place to go. Highly recommended for a casual dinner or even a special occasion!
My overall rating is 4.5 stars for this restaurant. I'm taking off 0.5 star due to the high prices considering the fact that it's located all the way in Brooklyn. I don't think that it is fair to charge Manhattan prices there. Other than that, both food and service quality were good. They do have an outside seating available although we sat inside.
Food was incredible and the service was great. Staff was so attentive! The atmosphere in here is lovely and the decor was beautiful. Turkish coffee - very good and cute cup! Chicken adana - I think there should be two strips there but it’s great!! Chicken kebab - fire honestly can’t go wrong Seafood linguini - did not personally try but the person who got this said a lighter sauce rather than tomato would have been better but it was still delicious I would definitely recommend this restaurant and I will be coming back!!
Love this place. The food is amazing. The staff was very friendly. Great dining space with a small bar area with seating. The space us really relaxing. Perfect for a date night or out with friends. We started with the appetizer sample. Big enough for 4 people to share but perfect for 2. I had one of the yogurtlu dishes. It was delicious. Perfectly cooked and well seasoned. I look forward to going back.
We have not been here in many years. It was cool inside on this hot day and it was pretty quiet because we got there early. It was good for brunch. BF had the Turkish coffee and loved it. I had the Turkish black tea which was very good. We had the zucchini pancake with scrambled eggs which I thought was interesting. We also shared a falafel plate with good hummus, an unusual combination of beets and sour cream and a classic Turkish salad with sumac to give it a bit of zing.
Pricey but worthwhile. Food quantity is good, quality is better. The place has an amazing look as well.
A Flavorful Trip to Turkey in the Heart of Brooklyn Located in the bustling heart of downtown Brooklyn, Deniz offers an enticing glimpse into the rich and diverse world of Turkish cuisine. The restaurant, with its indoor and outdoor seating options, is perfect for a casual meal or a relaxed dinner. The aesthetics of the restaurant are visually pleasing. The crimson red walls adorned with traditional Turkish hanging lamps lend an authentic touch, transporting diners to the streets of Istanbul. Tables are generously spaced and cater to both couples and larger groups, though the restroom left something to be desired with its spartan decor and a slight lack of tidiness. The menu at Deniz does not disappoint. The lamb adana kebab, served with a generous side of rice and salad, is an absolute must-try. The kebab was perfectly cooked, hot, and juicy, but the lack of peppery heat may disappoint those who crave a spicy kick. Regrettably, the traditional Turkish drink, ayran, was not available on the menu, leaving us to opt for a standard Coke. This was a slight letdown, as the drink's absence lessened the authenticity of the overall experience. For dessert, the baklava with pistachio paired with black tea was a delightful surprise. The dish, served with a dollop of whipped cream, was a welcome addition to the rich, sweet baklava. The three-piece of baklava serving was surprisingly generous, ensuring a satisfying end to the meal. Total meal cost for one person - ~$40, not including tips. While the all-male staff was friendly and eager to assist, the service felt a bit rushed. The speedy turnover might appeal to those in a hurry, but for diners hoping to enjoy a leisurely meal, it could detract from the overall dining experience. In conclusion, Deniz offers a largely satisfying Turkish culinary experience in Brooklyn. While there are areas for improvement, namely the restroom facilities, the lack of traditional beverages, and the rushed service, the restaurant compensates with its delightful food and warm ambiance. The authenticity of the decor and the generosity of the food servings make Deniz a worthy visit for a taste of Turkish cuisine.
Absolutely amazing and authentic Turkish food here. We came on a Monday night so it was pretty empty. The servers provided phenomenal service. We got: -Ezme ($8.50). The salad was just a tad spicy but great flavor. -Hummus w/ unlimited pita (it's thicker pita bread not the thinner pita)$8.50. Everything was super delicious. I'm picky about my hummus because I prefer the super smooth ones over the chunky ones, but this one was super smooth. -Sigara Boregi ($11). The Phyllo dough w/feta and spinach inside. Bit too salty here. -Lamb shish kebab entree ($26). The lamb shish kebab was grilled really well (though slightly overdone). -Kunafe ($12). Absolutely amazing and cheesy. -Turkish coffee ($7). Good standard Turkish coffee. Would come back with no hesitation, even just for the kunafe but also for the great hummus.
I’ve been coming to Deniz since I was a kid and today I brought my children here for the first time! Everything we had was excellent and the service was great. The grilled calamari salad and kofta wrap was delicious. I will always love this place for the memories and for the amazing Turkish cuisine. If you’re thinking about coming here please do!!
Tasty and fast delivery. Not pictured but really great starter was the spinach tarator, I only wish there was more than one half of a pita. Zucchini pancakes were good, but I think it would be better to ask for the yogurt serving on the side for delivery. Kibbeh was super flavorful; I wasn’t sure what it was before ordering, but it’s deep fried and great with lemon. We also got the lamb tacos, which were great, especially when I put the spinach tarator on top.
We stopped by here because our initial plan didn’t pan out and good thing because we discovered this gem! The food was on point and service was great. My only ish were the drinks. I didn’t taste the requested flavor and it was more rum than what I expected. They tried to fix it though but I guess I had different expectations. It was the painkiller. The mojitos were okay but I’ll leave the drinks out lol because the food was everything! Desert was on point, the mosaic and it was shareable! We had the Branzino and seafood linguini and man! Was it everything and then some. The pictures don’t tell it all. The side rice and salad complemented the pan seared Branzino and the linguini was packed with a lovely variety of seafood like shrimp, calamari, salmon and tilapia. Now the pan seared Branzino was well seasoned and a lovely size. I have eaten Branzino at a few restaurants and this was top notch. Service was friendly, decent, accommodating and professional. We had a lovely time and we recommend for singles, couples and large groups! Cheers!
I made a reservation here earlier in the day, and they got us seated real quick. The service was super friendly and efficient. We started with buffalo wings where pretty big and tasty. We also got the beef shish and adana kebab platters with no rice and extra salad. All the food is halal and it was a good meal, but a bit too pricey for what you get.
Deniz is a clean, comfortable (I like the availability of single-banquet seating) neighborhood restaurant. The wait staff are attentive and efficient. As a single diner (most of the time) I have never felt like a nuisance...it is also a neighborhood standby. Anyway, I was not happy with my meal. I ordered the stuffed cabbage and it was soggy and covered with some tomato sauce. There are four small rolls of stuffed cabbage leaves instead of a standard size. No side salad. The bread tasted stale. I had a bowl of creamy chicken soup. It was healthy tasting but not flavorful I didn't bother complaining because I don't think the staff would pass it on. The menu prices are too steep and everything is a single-item purchase.
I've gotten delivery twice. The first time I loved it; the 2nd time I decided never to order again. I ordered the same thing both times: chicken shish kebab. I believe the difference was that the first time, I drowned my food in the delicious babaganoush and humus. The 2nd time, I took my first bites of the chicken alone, and it was very dense and not flavorful. The babaganoush, humus, and breads are nice, though. Too pricey for just tough chicken and white rice, though ($25).
I ordered grilled calamari salad a lot because I liked it, even though the service or people working there were never friendly or kind. However, last time I ordered there were multiple pieces of hard plastic in my salad. I bit down on a nasty huge piece of plastic that was attached to the squid. Then I found additional pieces in my salad. I decided to add my review after seeing other reviews bringing up food safety issues.
My first visit to this restaurant was disappointing for several reasons. First, the bathroom door was broken in a way that compromised privacy, which was unexpected and inconvenient. While I typically do not judge a restaurant based on its restroom, this issue was significant enough to be concerning. Regarding the food, the overall quality was underwhelming. The grilled calamari salad lacked flavor, and the dish I ordered with tzatziki was instead served with tahini. When I inquired about the mistake, the response was dismissive. Service was another major issue. The staff was inattentive, and the overall customer experience did not reflect the restaurant’s pricing. Given the combination of these factors—food quality, service, and overall experience—I do not see myself returning.
i don't make comment normally . but this restaurant complete disappointment. food is not worth of money. not tasty and fresh. soup was good only. i don't recommend to anyone.
Very disappointed. I went there for the first time and ordered myself lamb shish kebab, medium-well done. My first plate arrived with raw meat and blood , obviously not cooked well. I asked the waitress and she was surprised herself and took my plate with apologies. After few minutes she brought me the same meat cooked for few minutes more and I thought to myself ''what a joke?'' because meat was still raw! I asked for manager and they said they would bring me another plate, I was ready to cancel it and leave that place. Third time I get a plate with three pieces of meat which were BURNED!!! (Picture included). Not only it was lacking taste but it was rough. I asked for the check and left that place with a BIG disappointment. Never ever I am going back to that place.👎
The service here is a disaster. The waiter was rude as if he was frustrated doing his job. This place is not what it used to be years ago. Better alternatives are out there, while this place is sinking day after day.
