We heard good things about this online so when we were staying in Manhattan we couldn’t not get the subway over to Brooklyn and as part of our final day in NYC before going back to London we ate here. Very small but just about able to pull 5 chairs together to eat. Between us we had some curried goat, fried chicken, oxtail, rice n peas, veg rice, Mac n cheese and the cornbreads. The food is amazing. The service is great- very friendly and welcoming. Great to see a black owned business (we are all Black British). Wish we lived closer! The portions were humungous! Great spot to eat. If you’re close enough and lucky enough to live near here - you will have plenty of food for your leftovers the next day!
I haven’t been to Soul Spot in a long time, and I’m glad I had the chance to pop in and pick up some potato salad. The food always eat, but the service is what makes Soul Spot the place to go and feel welcomed every time! The young lady at the front is super sweet and made my day without even knowing it. Love the Soul Spot down!
The meal was way better than I thought it would be. I found myself liking this restaurant more than anticipated. Each menu item shows taste quality. All employees show attention to detail. Our experience was noteworthy.
I find value in every visit to this spot. The local praise for The Soul Spot is well-founded. The menu features varying success but no failures. The people here offer outstanding warmth. This restaurant enriches our community.
Clean, hole-in-the-wall spot with some of the most delicious soul food and generous portions too! Prices are very fair. 10/10 no complains. The goat curry was wonderfully spiced, fall-of-the-bone tender. The rice and beans and stuffing was very flavorful. I will definitely be back here soon! Don’t sleep on this spot!
My first time here. I traveled from Suffolk County just to check out this place. The food is delicious. It was well worth the trip. I would recommend the spot to every. The food is good and the portions are sufficient. I had the turkey wings, collard greens and Mac and cheese. The mac and cheese was priceless!!! The wings so soft the meat was falling off of the bone and the greens seasoned to perfection!
Wow, this place is incredibly delicious and deserves a higher rating. It’s a hidden gem that I highly recommend. The food is incredibly flavorful! I tried the fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, and collard greens. The collard greens were the best I’ve ever had.
I stopped by The Soul Spot and tried the lamb ribs—and wow, they did not disappoint! The meat was tender, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. You could really taste the care that went into the cooking. Service was super quick, even during a busy time, and the portion size was generous—more than enough to satisfy a hearty appetite. The atmosphere is casual and unpretentious, but the food speaks for itself. If you're looking for comforting, soulful flavors with no fuss, The Soul Spot is a must-try. I'll definitely be coming back!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Hidden Gem That Feels Like Home! Listen I originally walked in just for cornbread. I was in the area, looked the place up on Google, and thought I'd give it a try. The moment I saw the food, I started yelling to my friends (we were visiting from Toronto Canada) asking if they wanted anything because WOW. Every single bite was worth it. The food felt like it came straight from my Jamaican family’s kitchen homemade, flavorful, and full of love. That cornbread? Easily the best I've had in YEARS. No joke. I even bought two extra pieces to save for later... but ended up eating them because everything was just that good. I was so impressed I told my other friends staying at a different hotel to make the trip this place is worth it. Amazing food, great vibes, and warm service. Go support them you won’t regret it! Look at my pictures food sweet me bod bod I almost forgot to take a picture I had to play it off like I didn't touch the food 😅
This restaurant’s name speaks for itself-The Soul Spot- literally feeds your soul. Seldom do I come across a meal that feels like a hug to your soul. The smell alone made my mouth water! 10/10 from flavor to a HUGE portion size. The woman serving me was so sweet and explained every option to me. Will be craving this place forever now! Thank you!!
My friend and I decided to check out this restaurant while they were in town. We were really impressed with the jerk chicken; it was cooked almost perfectly and tasted amazing. The service was also excellent – the staff was friendly and our order came out quickly. The prices were reasonable too. Just a heads up: it's a cash-only establishment, but there's an ATM available outside.
I’ve had quite a few soul food spots here in New York City, and this has been the best one so far! Every bit of the plate you could taste the love and care that went into the food, and that’s the most important ingredient in soul food, love! This food is also halal and contains no pork which makes it accessible to the Islamic community. I’m a chef from Kentucky so I know soul food when I see it, and this place embodies that taste! The yams tasted like candy bathed in butter, yet I could tell there wasn’t an unhealthy amount of sugar added to them, AMAZING! The curry goat was succulent and tender yet well flavors. The Mac and cheese, y’all the MAC AND CHEESE, was to die for. Best Mac and cheese I’ve had up here and closest to what I enjoy from home. The only dish I wasn’t too fond of was the peach cobbler, and really only because I make mine with more peaches and less crust.
The one and only halal Southern soul food & Caribbean spot in Brooklyn. Soul Spot’s serving size and its fall off the bone tender deliciousness has everyone coming back for more. From the moment you walk in the aroma hits you right away. From the oxtail, jerk chicken and bbq beef ribs everything was super succulent and very tender. Their candied yams had the perfect amount of sweetness. So many sides to choose from. Had to get their baked mac and cheese, sweet corn and mashed potatoes. The plating was A1. Can’t forget their corn bread with a side of their homemade ice teas! I’m telling y’all you can taste the love in each bite!
Delicious and satisfying. Had the oxtail with rice and mashed potatoes, came with a piece of cornbread which was like eating cake. They have 2 tables with 2 chairs each available for outside dining. The oxtail just melts in my mouth with dripping oil and curry- be careful when opening the plastic lid as it splat out. The rice was a good base, had some beans in there. The mashed potatoes were creamy. Tasted fresh and was a good temperature. Will be coming back to try more!
This place is AMAZING. First and foremost food is halal! Restaurants diversifying halal cuisines in NYC are always welcome ! They have a huge hot display of a variety of classic Caribbean/ southern soul remixes. I ordered chicken 2 ways and my cousin ordered the fried chicken. The chicken was succulent and flavorful while maintaining juiciness! The sides (Mac and cheese , tostinas, okra) were filling and well made as well. My only complaint is I receive the same type of chicken when I ordered two different types. 😢 Would love to see this expand as a restaurant for family dining.
I was really looking forward to this plate, but unfortunately I was disappointed. The flavor was decent, and the presentation looked good at first glance, but there was barely any meat on the bones. It felt like I paid mostly for bone and two sides rather than an actual portion of food. For the price, I expected a more generous serving with enough meat to actually enjoy the dish. I hope the restaurant considers being more consistent with portion sizes, because the taste had potential — it just didn’t feel worth it.
I hate to leave a negative review so I’ll start off by saying the Mac and cheese and collard greens were BOMB! I’d order again just for those. But that catfish left me so disappointed. I’ve been eating catfish all my life and never have I thought it didn’t taste good until today, I don't know if the fish is old or what but that was not good fish, the taste was very off.
The food was delicious and tasty. The portions were okay. However, the cornbread was very small. The cashier with the bonnet on was a little rude. She did not give the best customer service. The lady serving the food was friendly. This was my first time here. I asked for dessert, but them did not have any. Desserts are on the menu. I am skeptical about coming here again.
Ordered for pickup because it said delivery, 5 blocks away to my hotel, was too far. Food was done on time, but the lamb chop was the only thing that came out as expected. The black eyed peas with rice were more like Caribbean rice and peas vs the traditional style. It was hard to discern if it was in fact salmon in the croquettes because it was overpowered by sweet mashed potatoes. The jollof was okay but the stuffing tasted like they used the leftover cornbread, it was so sweet it could have been dessert. It was just totally not the style I expected when it said "soul" because we don't even have the words to say what was wrong with the green beans but I miss seasonings and flavor.
We tried a little bit of alot of different foods. We love that we could come to New York and find Halal soul food ♡ The food was good. Was I crazy about it and can't wait to go back, not really. But the food was good. Definitely worth trying! The oxtail is good, it has a little spice kick to it, the bbq chicken was ok, my friend had the baked chicken and ribs and said it was good. I think she enjoyed the food more than me. Now the mac n cheese, greens and yams, was really good. That's worth coming back for, if you come that's a must. Also, let me know what your favorite dish is if you go here!
